Strut modification lift kit for your 2011-2020 Dodge Journey

Are you looking for how to fit 24’s, 26’s or 28’s on your Dodge Journey? Need extra clearance for big wheels or just want some additional ground clearance? UCL modified struts are what you are looking for. The struts work similar to your factory units but are designed to give you an extra boost in height.

This  strut mod lift kit  gives you 3 inches of  extra lift from your front wheel drive Dodge Journey. The kit features bolt-on custom lift struts for your suspension in the front and strut spacers in the rear. Struts feature proper alignment geometry to get your wheels riding straight. Modification sections are CNC cut and feature adjustable alignment settings including camber curve. These specially designed struts will lift your car without your tire tilting inwards at the top, keeping your expensive low profile tires from wearing out.

ABOUT OUR OPTIONS:

  • “Bare Struts” = You will need to either use the components from your stock struts or buy new ones, and you will need to assemble the struts yourself.
  • “Loaded Struts” = The Kit will come with complete, ready-to-install modified struts. They come pre-assembled with a bearing plate, upper and lower spring isolators, upper spring seat, coil spring, boot kit, and a premium strut.

Extra clearance for 22″ to 30″ diameter rims

The modified lift struts will move your lower spring mount up 3 inches, providing  extra clearance for your tires to clear . This is the most common problem with lifting front wheel drive Dodge Journeys . When running 22, 24, 26, or 28-inch rims, the tire can come in contact with the lower strut mount. Our kit will fix this issue while also providing the additional lift height needed to allow you to avoid major trimming of your fenders.

Complete package can be installed yourself

This is a complete kit with everything you need to lift the car including a detailed general instruction manual showing how to install lift struts . Most people could handle installation with hand tools and a floor jack. We have sold and installed many of these kits and they work awesome when installing big wheels. The ride quality and handling is similar to stock.

Lifetime warranty for a lifetime of trouble-free use

We offer a lifetime warranty on the struts to be free from manufacturer defects.

Some notes about the struts

Note: These struts are custom built to order. Because of this, we do ask that you allow up to 5 business days for order processing. If you need the struts sooner, please give us a call and we will help any way possible.

List of Suspension Issues in the Dodge Journey (7+ Common Problems)

2012 dodge journey lifted

In this brief article we are going to discuss the different Dodge Journey Suspension problems , what the causes are, and Troubleshooting Tips.

Top 8 most common suspension issues in the Dodge Journey?

The most common suspension issues seen in the Dodge Journey are:

Front Strut Top Mount Failure

  • Clunking Noise in the Front End
  • Clunking Noise in the Rear End

Front Shock Absorber Strut Failure

Rear shock absorber failure, front control arm failure, rear wheel bearing failure.

  • Rear Camber Arm Rust

What suspension does the Dodge Journey have?

The Dodge Journey is categorized in the market as a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured from 2008 to 2020. It was also sold in Europe as the Fiat Fairmont.

Front Suspension

The Dodge Journey has a Front suspension consisting of a MacPherson Coil-over shock absorber struts with lower control arm and Anti roll bar. This arrangement is mounted onto the front subframe.

Rear Suspension

The Dodge Journey has a 4-Link rear suspension with a Coil-over Shock absorber strut and a Rear anti-roll bar.

  • Knocking Noise while going over Rough Road Patches
  • Bumping/Knocking Noises when trying the lock steering in parking

Troubleshooting Front Strut Top Mount Failure

  • The Top Strut Mount contains a Bushing as well as a bearing that allows the strut to rotate while steering
  • Generally, when the Top Strut mount is damaged, both the bushing as well as the bearing fail and restricts the strut from rotation during steering.
  • The bearing failure causes the knock and creak noises while locking the steering.
  • The Bushing failure causes the Knocking and Popping noises driving over a rough patch.
  • In order to change the strut mount, you will need to completely remove the strut and also compress the spring

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • In the Dodge Journey, the strut top mount is located underneath the Windshield wiper plastic panel, and,

The Strut-Bar connecting the left and right shock supports. Accessing the Strut top mount is time consuming.

Clunking Noise from Front End

  • ‘Clunking’ noise during normal driving especially on bad and rough road patches that cause the vehicle to “Roll” more.
  • The same ‘Clunk’ noise reduces on smoother roads

Troubleshooting Clunking Noise from Front End

  • For most car suspensions, a ‘Clunk’ Noise is more related to the Anti-roll Bar assembly of the suspension

Anti roll bar Subframe mounting bush failure

  • Anti roll Bar End-link Ball-joint failure

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • The Anti-Roll bar (ARB) bushings are the isolators between the ARB and the vehicle’s chassis. The bushings also ‘secure’ the ARB in place and restrict excessive movement so that the ARB can properly function.
  • The ARB is under torsional loads while the car is undergoing “Roll” motion either during cornering or Rough Roads.
  • In these situations, when the ARB undergoes torsion, the mounting bushes also share part of the road loads.
  • Bushings that have aged, hardened, or simply worn out and become loose tend to cause noise as they allow unnecessary movement of the ARB.
  • You can easily check for Anti roll bar bush failure using a pry bar. Wedge it between the ARB and the subframe and try to lift the ARB. If it moves without much resistance and also creates a knock sound, then it means that the ARB bush needs to be changed.
  • While refitting the Antiroll bar subframe bushing use a good anti-seize paste at the contact surface between the anti roll bar and the rubber bushing
  • Anti-Seize application could be repeated periodically in order to prevent excessive wear, say, every 50K miles or so.
  • For improving handling, you could search in the aftermarket for the same bushing with harder material. The harness is generally denoted by the Shore ‘A’ hardness number.

Anti-roll bar End link Ball-Joint Failure

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • The ARB-to-suspension connection is done using ARB end links.
  • On the front axle, the end links use a sealed ball joint design that has a significant range of motion sufficient for the various movements of the front suspension.
  • The rubber boot that protects the end link Ball-joints can tear, allowing the joint lubrication to seep out and exposing the ball joint to corrosion. The result is a clunking noise from the worn joint.
  • If the end links’ mounting fasteners have loosened on either end, it could result in clunking noise.
  • On the rear suspension ARB end links, rubber bushings are used instead of ball joints. These end link bushings can age and then start to squeak.
  • Use of Lubricants injected into the ball-joint by inserting a needle through the rubber boot could temporarily solve the squeaking sound problem. But it is always recommended that new end links be fitted.
  • When changing the Anti Roll Bar End Links (also called Drop Links), Jack up both sides of the car.
  • If you jack only one side at a time, there will be a twist in the anti-roll bar because of which you would find it difficult to align the anti-roll bar and end link at the bolt hole.
  • Aftermarket End-Links with Greasable Ball-joints can be considered as an alternative. These would offer an extended life as compared to the OE sealed type of ball-joints, as they are serviceable.

Clunking Noise from Rear End

  • Rear Clunking noise while normal driving
  • Noise increases when going over bad roads

Troubleshooting Clunking Noise from Rear End

  • As with front suspension clunking (explained in this section ) Clunking noises, in a majority of cases originate in the Anti Roll bar joints
  • The Rear Anti-roll bar can be inspected by using a pry-bar and trying to lift the bar leveraged against the subframe
  • You could also examine the linkages by trying to shake the Anti roll bar drop links by hand.

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • When inspecting for suspension noises and anti-roll bars, always jack the chassis/body and let the wheels hang
  • When jacking up only one side, the anti roll bar applies downward pressure on both side wheels and it becomes difficult to check joints because they become extra tight.
  • Rattling Noise going over any rough patches
  • Front end bouncier than normal
  • Changes in handling behaviour; Vehicle not feeling stable at high speed cornering

Troubleshooting Front Shock Absorber Failure

  • The Bouncy Ride symptom points to the Shock Absorber as a probable cause.
  • If your vehicle has crossed 50K miles, then it could be due for a shock replacement. Due to long-term internal wear, the shock starts becoming ineffective over time.
  • If the front strut shock has started leaking oil due to a failed oil-seal, then it means that the shock will no longer be effective.
  • One good way to tell if your shock has failed or not is to do a “Bounce Test”. Put all your weight on one of the front corners of the vehicle pushing it downwards. Keep oscillating the corner till you feel that it has reached its maximum height. Once you take your hands off the corner, observe how it settles. If it takes more than 2 oscillations to settle, that means the damper has failed.

the Strut-Bar Stiffener connecting the left and right shock supports.

  • For a low mileage vehicle (40K-50K miles), if the springs are found to be OK, they could be reused in a new Shock Absorber Strut. For safety reasons, make sure that you use a good quality and safe spring compressor tool for separating the coil spring from the strut and also reassembling.
  • For high mileage vehicles (80K miles plus), it would be better to change the strut assembly as a whole.
  • Knocking and Popping Noises from the Rear going over bumps
  • Rear end feels bouncier

Troubleshooting Rear Shock Strut Failure

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • The noises coming from the rear are partly due to the failed shock absorber allowing the bump stops to contact more often. And also the noises partly come from the worn out shock mounting bushes that allow the shock to move and hit against the mounting brackets.
  • If your vehicle has crossed 40-50K miles, then it could be due for a shock absorber replacement. Due to long-term internal wear, the shock absorber starts losing its damping action over time.
  • You could either choose to keep or replace the springs depending on the condition. If your vehicle has already done 80K plus miles, the spring would also soon be due for replacement. So, it would be better to simply replace the whole strut assembly.
  • If the rear shock has started leaking oil due to a failed oil-seal, then it means that the shock will no longer be effective.
  • Once the Strut Shock absorber has been dismantled, there is one more way to see the shock condition for yourself by way of a ‘Compression’ test.
  • You can simply apply force on the top of the shock and compress it. If it can come back up on its own, then the shock is in fairly good condition. But if it takes too long or doesn’t expand on its own, it’s confirmed that the shock absorber has failed.

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • The Top mounting Bolts in the Rear Shocks of the Dodge Journey are located in the luggage compartment behind the rear seat.

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • You need to first remove the plastic trim and access the two rear Strut Top mounting bolts
  • It is always recommended to either loosen or tighten the Lower mounting bolts of the rear shock absorber only when the rear axle has been supported either using a Hydraulic jack or a jack-stand.

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • Since the rear shock is a strut assembly, it will carry tension of the spring. Therefore in order to relieve spring tension from the lower mounting bolt, the rear trailing arm needs to be loosened and lowered carefully using a screwjack.
  • As per the Shock absorber manufacturer, a new shock absorber must always be ‘Started’ before it is fitted. To ‘Start’ a shock absorber, you must oscillate it 3-5 times by hand.
  • The reason for doing this is that when the shock absorber was stored lying down, in the fully compressed or expanded condition, the hydraulic fluid may not have flowed completely to one side of the piston. When this happens, the shock absorber will jerk during operation. ‘Starting’ will help to avoid this sort of jerky operation.

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • While fitting a new shock absorber, always, Tighten the Top mounting bolts first and then the Lower mounting bolt.
  • Poor handling; the car seems to be drifting
  • Steering seems vague while Lane Changing
  • Uneven Tire Wear pattern
  • Knocking Noises while going over Rough Patches

Root Cause:

  • Due to a Tire wear issue, it can be inferred that the alignment of the front suspension is outside of the recommended settings. But this is still a symptom.
  • The cause for alignment change points to the Lower control arm Bushings and Ball-joints that may have got worn or damaged

Troubleshooting Front Control Arm Failure: Lower Control Arm Bushing

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • Lower Control Arm bushing wears out over time and cracks due to age
  • When inspecting the Lower control arm after removal, it is clear that there are tears and cracks in the rubber portion.
  • A Worn out Lower Control arm bushing will allow the lower control arm to move around
  • The lower control arm movement due to bush wear-out sthe wheel alignment settings and also creates noise.
  • Hence the handling of the car feels poor.
  • For Rusted Bolt connections that are hard to Break-open, do not try repeatedly using hand or pneumatic tools.
  • Always first soak it for 10-15 min after spraying a good Rust-penetrant.

Troubleshooting Front Control Arm Failure: Lower Control Arm Ball-Joint

  • In the Macpherson type of front suspension, the lower control arm ball-joints are subject to wear and tear
  • The deterioration is usually initiated as a crack or rupture in the rubber boot around the ball-joint
  • This leads to loss of lubrication and finally to complete wear out or, in some cases, Rust.
  • The wear out causes play or movement accompanied by knocking noise. The play in the ball-joint is one of the reasons for the vehicle steering feeling vague
  • Get the car on a Ramp
  • Lock the steering wheel
  • Hold the front tire with both your hands and try to steer the wheel
  • If you hear a ‘Knock’ or ‘Click’, then it is very much likely that the noise is due to a play in the Ball-joint
  • For a low mileage (40-50K miles) vehicle it may not be necessary to replace the whole control arm in case of ball-joint damage.
  • For a high mileage (80-100K miles), it might be wiser to change the whole control arm since both the bushes as well as the ball-joint would have reached the end of their service life.
  • Droning noise above 30 mph speeds
  • Sound is louder with increasing speed

Troubleshooting Rear Wheel Bearing Failure

  • Droning noise is generally associated with one of the wheel bearings depending on where the noise is coming from
  • Wheel bearings generally have a life of 70K miles, after which, on detecting noise issues, must be replaced
  • In the Dodge Journey, the wheel bearing is housed within the Knuckle and the Wheel Spindle. It is of a single-piece design.
  • The Wheel Hub comes as a unit along with the Wheel bearing press-fitted

2012 dodge journey lifted

Rear Camber Arm Bolt Rusted

  • Rear Tire Inside-wear
  • Handling is poor. Rear end does not respond well to lane changes

Troubleshooting Rear Camber Arm Bolt Rusted

2012 dodge journey lifted

  • Rear suspension Camber setting is done by means of an Eccentric-Hole washer used at the Camber-Control arm Subframe bracket
  • When they are rusted out, they tend to misalign the rear suspension. Moreover, after rusting, the washer is basically stuck to the rear subframe and needs to be grinded out.
  • Rust needs to be removed and Washer as well as Control arm need to be changed

Edmunds' Expert Review

  • Sophisticated interior
  • family-friendly size
  • available built-in booster seats
  • strong V6 engine
  • smart touchscreen interface.
  • Overmatched four-cylinder
  • less utilitarian than competitors.

Besides changes to its trim names and structure, the 2012 Dodge Journey is essentially unchanged.

Edmunds says

Though not quite a class leader, the 2012 Dodge Journey has enough positive attributes to make it worthy of consideration.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2012 Dodge Journey American Value Package 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.42 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

Once, the Dodge Journey was only a good idea compromised by half-hearted execution. Slow, ponderous and inefficient on the highway, it was further flawed by an interior that didn't fit the human form and seemed poorly made besides. Usually it takes an entirely new model to turn around such a wayward ship, but Dodge managed to bail out its midsize crossover with a bold makeover last year. The result is a compact sport-utility that suddenly is worth considering as a family hauler.

The 2012 Dodge Journey slots into the crossover SUV fray alongside tweener-sized vehicles like the Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Like the RAV4, the Journey offers a small third-row seat that is useful for occasionally taking on a couple of extra kids. With or without the third row, however, the Journey strikes a right-sized balance for shoppers looking for something to schlep the family around without stepping up to costlier, thirstier and more cumbersome models like the Dodge Durango and Toyota Highlander.

While the base-model Journey's four-cylinder engine remains underpowered and not especially fuel-efficient, the 3.6-liter V6 is one of the more robust engines in this vehicle segment and offers decent fuel economy. Changes made to the steering and suspension last year also make the Journey much better to drive. The most notable improvement to the Journey is within the cabin, where higher-quality materials, a pleasing design and Chrysler's latest (and very good) technology features are on display. Meanwhile, the wealth of good ideas still remains, including clever hidden storage bins and available integrated child seats.

Thanks to its well-rounded nature, the 2012 Dodge Journey easily earns our approval. Of course, its competition remains tough to beat. Both the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are fully redesigned this year, boasting higher fuel economy and more refined driving dynamics than last year's versions. You might also want to check out the Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Forester. But overall the Journey is a smart pick for a small crossover, particularly with the V6 engine.

Performance & mpg

The 2012 Dodge Journey SE is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined -- not great given its anemic acceleration and thriftier competitors.

The Journey SXT and Crew get a 3.6-liter V6 good for 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It gets a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. At the track we recorded a 7.5-second 0-60-mph time for a Journey V6 FWD, an average time for the class. Its fuel economy stands at 17/25/20 with front-wheel drive and 16/24/19 with all-wheel drive. These are on par with the Chevy Equinox, but worse than other V6-powered small crossovers.

Every 2012 Dodge Journey comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, active front head restraints, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. Integrated second-row child booster seats are optional on every Journey. In Edmunds brake testing, a Journey V6 FWD came to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet, an average performance for its segment.

In government crash tests, the Journey received four out of five stars for overall crash protection, with four stars awarded for frontal impact protection and five stars for overall side impact protection. In crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Journey received the top score of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side-impact and roof-strength tests.

The four-cylinder engine found in the base 2012 Dodge Journey SE just doesn't have enough power to get this heavy crossover moving. It also doesn't provide the fuel economy to justify its dawdling pace. As such, we'd avoid it and step up to the SXT and its 3.6-liter V6. This engine is quickly spreading throughout the Chrysler lineup, and for good reason: It offers smooth, robust power and decent fuel economy. Unfortunately, its six-speed transmission can be slow to respond when a downshift (or two) is needed. On the move, the Journey is competent for the class, with a smooth ride and secure handling.

The interior wasn't the only thing that was overhauled last year. Changes to the suspension and steering gear completely transformed the driving experience. Handling feels much more confident, and the steering is now much more precise and predictable, with a light but still nicely weighted feel to it. So it's improved, although a Honda CR-V will likely feel more agile around town, while the Chevy Equinox provides an even more comfortable and quiet ride on the freeway.

Last year's overhaul transformed the Journey's interior from one of the worst among compact/midsize crossovers to one of the best. The materials are better in quality and texture, the design is clean and modern, and its up-to-the-minute technology is pretty easy to use. We especially like the extra-large touchscreen interface available on most models.

Ongoing strengths for the Journey are its clever storage bins and integrated child seats that make it decidedly family-friendly. Also helping that cause is a versatile seating arrangement. While the sliding and reclining second-row seat is now the norm for this size of crossover, its optional third-row seat is not. Like the Toyota RAV4's, this seat is far from adult-friendly, but if you need to take a few extra kids to a T-ball game, it should come in handy.

In terms of storage space, the Journey offers a total capacity of 68 cubic feet with all rear seats folded. That's a few cubic feet smaller than the RAV4 and CR-V, but bigger than the Chevy Equinox. For smaller items, the Journey does its best Millennium Falcon impersonation with storage bins hidden under the second-row floor as well as under the passenger seat.

2012 Dodge Journey models

The 2012 Dodge Journey is available in five- and seven-passenger configurations. It is available in American Value Package, SE, SXT, R/T and Crew trim levels.

The American Value Package comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, heated mirrors, keyless ignition/entry, cruise control, dual-zone manual climate control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a sliding and reclining second-row seat and a six-speaker sound system (with a compact touchscreen interface, a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod/USB audio interface and steering wheel controls). The SE adds privacy tinted glass, side roof rails and LED taillights.

Moving up to the SXT adds a V6 engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, foglamps, LED taillamps, a cargo cover and satellite radio. A premium sound system and 19-inch wheels are optional.

The Comfort/Convenience Group available on both the SE and SXT adds a six-way power driver seat with four-way power lumbar adjustment, a fold-flat passenger seatback and a storage bin under the passenger seat. The Premium Group available on the SE is identical, but includes satellite radio as well. The Popular Equipment Group includes all of the above plus remote ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, an outside temperature gauge, a compass, and on the SE, 17-inch alloy wheels. Also available is a larger infotainment touchscreen.

These optional items come standard on the Crew, which also gets automatic headlamps, 19-inch wheels, chrome-like exterior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a premium audio system and Bluetooth (stand-alone option on SE and SXT). Optional on the Crew are a sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system and leather upholstery that brings with it heated front seats.

The R/T (which arrives later in the model year) will add a monochrome exterior, special 19-inch wheels and black leather upholstery with red stitching. Otherwise, it is equipped similarly to the Crew.

The Flexible Seating Group available on every Journey adds a folding/reclining third-row seat and three-zone automatic climate control with rear air-conditioning. Integrated second-row child booster seats are also optional on every Journey, while a navigation system is available on all but the SE.

MasterPro Strut and Coil Spring Assembly

Multiple applications, monroe oe spectrum strut, monroe quick-strut strut and coil spring assembly, kyb excel-g suspension strut, reduce the cost of replacing shocks & struts.

Your vehicle's shocks and struts absorb shock and impact from rough terrain, and help stabilize the vehicle by insulating the chassis and cabin from excessive suspension movement. Shocks and struts are designed to improve the overall control, stability, and comfort of a vehicle and also help maintain braking performance. Over time, the shocks or struts on your vehicle can wear out or suffer damage due to high temperatures, especially bad roads and impact, deterioration, and weather conditions, and if left unchecked, damaged shocks or struts can negatively affect the ride quality and safety of the vehicle. Signs of bad shocks or struts include bottoming out, excessive vibrations or bouncing when on rough roads, cupping wear on the tires, or extended braking time. The performance and lifespan of your shocks or struts may depend on your driving habits, road and climate conditions, as well as your towing loads, which makes routine car inspection especially important to ensure continued safety. It's recommended that you have a trusted mechanic inspect your suspension system for signs of damage or wear every six months or 12,000 miles. Damaged or underperforming suspension components can not only decrease the comfort of your ride, but may also put you in danger due to a lack of traction and increased braking distance. Shocks and struts should always be replaced in pairs at each end of the vehicle, since they have likely experienced similar amounts of wear and may fail around the same time. When the time comes to replace your shocks or struts, check out the selection at O'Reilly Auto Parts. We carry shocks and struts, as well as complete strut assemblies and parts, for most vehicles. If you'd like step-by-step guidance on your next suspension repair, visit our How-To Hub for topics like how to replace rear shocks , the differences between shocks and struts , and much more.

When To Get 2012 Dodge Journey Suspension Service

During the first few years you had your 2012 Dodge Journey, you and your passengers probably enjoyed a ride that was smooth and balanced. But these days, things are starting to feel a bit rough. Perhaps your Journey feels bouncy, sways to one side, or makes noise whenever you turn or drive over a speed bump. The first sign of trouble is the best time to bring your 2012 Dodge Journey in for steering and suspension repairs. We can pinpoint the source of the trouble.

The technicians at Firestone Complete Auto Care will start with a suspension inspection to diagnose your vehicle. We will examine the front and rear end suspension, shock dampeners, damper springs, CV joints and axles, struts, bushings, chassis parts, axle bearings, and power steering system parts. We’ll get to the root of the issue and, if your Journey suspension system needs repair, we'll explain all of your options and the potential cost. If your Dodge Journey’s suspension or steering system components need to be replaced due to wear and tear, we may also recommend a wheel alignment since replacing steering and suspension parts can change existing wheel angles and ride height.

Dodge Journey Replacement Shocks & Struts

Shocks and struts are important parts of your 2012 Dodge Journey suspension system. They contribute to your car’s handling, keeping it from bottoming out when the road gets bumpy. Shocks keep the car from bouncing too much and struts support the structure of the suspension. These pieces work together to help dampen vibration and hold the car off the ground. But there’s no set schedule for getting your 2012 Dodge Journey’s shocks and struts replaced since many things can influence the wear rate and severity of the wear. Bouncing, swaying from side to side, or an unusual rocking sensation could all be signs of worn Dodge Journey shocks and struts. One of your best bets is to have your 2012 Dodge Journey suspension shocks and struts regularly inspected by a trusted technician. Save yourself the shock of steering and suspension problems by scheduling an appointment at your local Firestone Complete Auto Care.

2012 Journey Steering & Suspension Q&A

  • Does tire pressure and tread depth impact my Dodge's suspension? Maintaining your tires can help reduce strain on the suspension, and also help you notice when you need new tires. A tire that doesn't have an adequate amount of tread can't grip the road or function as well as the manufacturer intended.
  • Why should my Dodge Journey get regular tire rotations and wheel alignments?  Regularly rotate tires and adjust wheel alignment. Rotation and alignment are all about making small tweaks that have a big impact. Both services help ensure that the correct amount of pressure is applied to each tire and that the tires connect with the road how Dodge intended.
  • When should I have my Dodge Journey power steering fluid checked? Have your power steering fluid checked when you get an oil change or every few months. If your Journey’s power steering fluid is low, we’ll top it off per Dodge's guidelines to help your suspension perform smoothly.
  • Why is my Dodge Journey bouncing excessively? If your shocks or struts are in bad shape, they can’t dampen road bumps like they should. This can cause your Journey to bounce more than usual.
  • Why does my Journey's nose dive down when I hit the brakes? The forward momentum and weight transfer to the front wheels during braking can cause your Journey's front end to dip forward. A damaged or faulty suspension system may fail to distribute the weight and force effectively, causing the front end to dip even more.
  • What do worn Dodge Journey shocks feel like? If your Journey shock absorbers are worn out, they won’t be able to properly dampen road bumps. You might experience a bouncy or unstable ride, especially over bumps or rough roads. Your Journey might also feel like it sways or rolls as you turn.
