Jeep reveals 2024 Easter Safari concepts
We get two wranglers, a gladiator and a wagoneer this year.
There may be snow on the ground in many parts of the country as I write this, but spring is in the air even way up here in the once-frigid expanse of Michigan, and with it comes Jeep's annual celebration in Moab, Utah — the Easter Jeep Safari . And as is tradition, Jeep has a handful of concept builds to show off to this year's Safari-goers. While we won't be seeing anything along the lines of the now-retired Jeep Magneto or 392 Scrambler , it's still Easter Jeep Safari; there's always something cool.
Blame the UAW strike, retirements in Jeep leadership ( former design chief Mark Allen departed in May of last year) or what have you, but 2024 is a bit of a lean year. Jeep is bringing just two ground-up concept builds and two Jeep Performance Parts accessorized models to the 2024 edition of Easter Jeep Safari. There are no wild vintage riffs or rebodies this year, but that's just as well. We can file these in the "attainable" category for once. Let's dive in.
Jeep Low Down
The Low Down Concept celebrates the V8. It was short-lived in the Wrangler but the 392 also made a splash in the Grand Cherokee SRT8. It may not be a "Jeep engine" in the strictest sense, but it's certainly one that Jeep fandom has embraced in recent years. The Low Down gets its name from an older Easter Jeep Safari Concept: the Lower Forty . Both are designed around their V8 engines (the Lower Forty had a 5.7-liter Hemi) and were customized so that the engines could be fitted without having to lift their bodies for extra clearance. This one rocks a standard 392 with 475 horsepower and a stock-height suspension but beefed-up Dana 60 axles and a set of 5.38 gears. That color is called Poison Apple Red, by the way.
Jeep Willys Dispatcher
With the retirement of the badass 6-speed electric Magneto , this 4xe-based Willys Dispatcher is by default the most forward-thinking concept Jeep has at the Safari this year. Embracing a sense of juxtaposition, Jeep's designers used this concept as the foundation for a throwback build featuring 36-inch tires on eggshell-colored steelies highlighted (literally) by a bright green finish. Inside, there's distressed leather with houndstooth inserts and no headrests to be found. Vintage. Or like on TV. Take your pick.
Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top
This one's my personal favorite. Maybe it's the sweet two-tone finish or the big, fat sidewalls, but this pickup-based build speaks to me. Those thick shoes are 40-inch BFG KO3s on 18x9-inch KMC Grenade Crawl beadlock wheels. Never would have imagined I'd see a street Jeep tire that would make an 18-inch wheel look tiny, but here we are.
Like the Vacationeer below, the High Top is decked out in Jeep Performance Parts goodies, including flat fender flares, Dana 60 front and rear axles, an AccuAir adjustable air suspension ( We got to sample one last year! ) and an entire pile of visual and go-anywhere bolt-ons from JPP and their partners at American Expedition Vehicles et al. This one's just based on the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, but that's OK. I'll take it as it sits.
Jeep Vacationeer
No, not vacationer, but Vacation eer . This spearmint-wrapped Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back is... well, OK, it's a Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back. In fact, maybe it's just me, but the Vacationeer looks an awful lot like the Camp Lux Grand Wagoneer from a year ago, which was also a Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back. But it can't be, right? I mean, it's green and the wheels are different... Can you rattle-can a roof tent chassis? Asking for a friend.
That's it for the 2024 round of Easter Jeep Safari Concepts. As I said above, it's a lean year in Moab, but 2024 is going to be a big one for Jeep. Why? One word: Recon . Stay tuned.

If you're thinking this is just another zoo or an exploitation of animal rights (“Tiger King”, I'm looking at YOU), think again. I'll probably never get to visit Africa in my lifetime, so this may be the closest I'll ever come to a real safari.
As you drive through the park in your own vehicle, you'll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the most magnificent animals on the planet.
Imagine watching as a majestic Southern White Rhino grazes mere feet away from your car, or spotting a herd of Damara Zebras frolicking in the open fields. The experience is nothing short of breathtaking.
And let's not forget about the Brindled Wildebeest, one of the park's most striking residents. These fascinating creatures, with their distinctively patterned coats and impressive horns, are a sight to behold. Seeing them in their natural habitat is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In addition to the Damara Zebra, Southern White Rhino, and Brindled Wildebeest, visitors can also see a variety of other African animals such as giraffes, cheetahs, lions, and elephants.
Among my favorite exhibits are the American Bison, Brown Bear, Ringtail Lemurs, Budgie Aviary, Sumatran Tiger, and the Safari's world-famous Cheetahs.
Wildlife Safari boasts one of the top cheetah breeding research centers on the planet and is the number one cheetah breeding facility outside of Africa and number two on Earth. Only around 10,000 cheetahs still exist in the wild, so the 219 cubs born at WS since 1972 are helping to keep this endangered species alive. You may even catch a glimpse of KJ and Rhino, the unlikely lifelong friendship between a big cat and a dog.
Watch out for the Australian Emus toward the end of your car ride, haha. They are extremely unafraid of humans, even when you're obeying the rules of keeping your hands inside the vehicle at all times.

Navigating to the safari park is simple. Input the address into your GPS to guide you to the park entrance. To reach the park from Interstate 5 (North or South), take Exit 119 heading west toward Winston. Continue along Highway 42/99 for roughly 2 miles, then turn right onto Lookingglass Road. Watch for the signs on the right to direct you to your destination.

Sage rat hunting
We hunt sage rats weekends mid-April to mid-July (minus a few weeks in June before the first alfalfa cut). We have contracted access to 37 fields that are normally closed to the public. We’ve done the hard work of finding best rat hunting fields and getting the permission to shoot on them.
Plan for up to 500 shots each day . No hunting license required.
Practical rifle, multi-gun, and extreme long range
Steel targets range from 5 yards to past a mile. Most long range targets are equipped with hit indicators (red flashing light when you hit the target). Our practical rifle and multi-gun course has a variety of barricades, tank traps, prone platform, and shingled roof.
Arrive and check-in on Friday, class will be full days on Saturday and Sunday. In this two day class, we’ll teach the theory of long range marksmanship and test your skills in a competition. We’ll cover:
- Fundamentals of marksmanship
- Principles of adjustments for elevation and wind
- Collecting and using dope
- Configuring and calibrating ballistic apps
- Reading wind
- Positional shooting basics
In addition to the standard requirements for all of our outings, students will need:
- Rifle with suitable rifle scope
- 300 rounds of quality match grade ammunition, all the same load, preferably the same lot
- Ballistics calculator (e.g., Applied Ballistics phone app)
- Pen and book for recording dope
- Spotting scope or binoculars
- Prone mat (optional but nice)
Standard weekend format
Arrive at the Christmas Valley Desert Inn Friday night. No check-in required, late arrival is OK. Let us know if you will have a pet so we can book you into a different motel.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, we meet for breakfast across the street at the Christmas Valley Farmhouse Cafe at 8:00. We provide sack lunches and snacks in the field. On Saturday, we shoot until 4:00, then head to dinner at the historic Cowboy Dinner Tree .

Cowboy Dinner Tree is a destination, as there isn’t a whole lot around it, and when you do arrive, you feel like you entered the set of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western. The only thing missing is the sound of your spurs as you walk to the entrance. If you are the “white napkin, chef explaining the meal at the table” type of person, you might want to reconsider Cowboy Dinner Tree, as this is eating in what I call the “Old West” style. Big, rustic and so good you will wish you brought pants with elastic in the waistband.

We are insured and registered with the State of Oregon as professional outfitter guides. Tom and Patrick hold NRA ratings as Rifle Instructors and Chief Range Safety Officers. We are trained in first aid/CPR/AED. Safety is our top priority.
What to bring
Rifles and ammunition.
Bring your own rifles and ammunition. Bring both rimfire and centerfire rifles. For sage rat hunting, we recommend a rimfire rifle with a scope. We limit certain fields to rimfire, but you’re welcome to use centerfire rifles on the fields with suitable backstops. We also have steel targets for handguns, carbines, and rifles.

It has a little bar area and we really like that with some planters, it looks super nice. It's a great size for us and my grandkids also enjoy it. It's like a small pool for them. When it comes to this kind of purchase, be ready to keep good maintenance on it. We've had a couple of issues where we didn't put the chemicals in correctly so we had a little fungus. We had to empty out the spa and suction out all the jets and clean it out real well and refill it.”

Mary Kelley, DO
A native of Bend, Dr. Kelley completed medical school and a pre-doctoral fellowship at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, WA. She went on to complete a post-doctoral research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital with the Nerve Unit, and later completed her residency at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas in Austin.
Dr. Kelley chose a career in medicine because she’s passionate about helping others lead healthier, happier lives. “I view the patient doctor relationship as one of collaboration,” she says. “I get to know my patients and work with them to diagnose and treat their conditions in ways that honor their individual values and life goals.” As a comprehensive neurologist, Dr. Kelley diagnoses and treats all disorders of the nervous system, with particular interest in headaches, neuroimmunology and neuromuscular disorders.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Kelley enjoys the many outdoor activities Central Oregon has to offer, including cross-country skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and trail running. She also likes to tend to her garden and attend concerts around town.
