Overview- Philippine Tourist Visas

QUICK SUMMARY- Requirements For Visa on Arrival and 9a Tourist Visa

  • Foreign Nationals from 157 countries can get a Philippines tourist visa on arrival
  • Visa-restricted foreigners must apply for a 9a Tourist Visa from the Philippines Consulate-General in their country of residence
  • Philippines tourist visas can be extended by 1, 2, or 6 months increments
  • The maximum stay for a Philippines tourist visa is 24-36 months depending on citizenship
  • The Philippines eVisa is only available for citizens of Taiwan

From Bali, Vietnam, to Cambodia, Southeast Asia is filled with beautiful beaches and gorgeous islands. However, when people ask me the best place to stay as a foreigner, my answer never wavers- The Philippines. My reasons center around the Philippines visa policy , one of the world's most liberal, inexpensive, and straightforward long-stay tourist visas.

The monthly visa runs, stressful interactions, and potential bribes with Vietnamese or Thai border guards are gone.  A Philippines tourist visa allows you to stay in the country hassle-free for up to 36-months legally.  Want to stay longer than 3-years? The Philippines also has one of the easiest to qualify for retirement visas with their SRR visa.

However, the process of acquiring a tourist visa depends on your citizenship. Foreign tourists from countries that offer Filipino citizens reciprocal permanent residency and immigration privileges ( see list below ) have easier requirements, cheaper visa fees, and longer visa durations. Citizens from countries not on EO 408 list are ineligible for visa on arrival, follow a different application process, pay more in visa fees, and have shorter visa validity.

Getting A Philippines Tourist Visa On Arrival

For stays of 30 days or less-  The Visa On Arrival passport stamp acts as a Philippines Tourist Visa for citizens of the US, UK, and other foreign citizens from the 157 countries under EO 408, allowing them to arrive in the Philippines without a visa.

To clarify, the term Visa on Arrival is commonly used to mean the passport entry stamp given to foreigners entering the country visa-free. However, there is also an official Philippines Visa on Arrival (SEVUA). The SEVUA is a special visa available for visitors of the Philippines in an official capacity. Examples are foreign investors invited by the Board of Investments or foreign athletes competing in a sanctioned athletic event.

I use the term Philippines Visa On Arrival to mean the visa-free entry stamp in this article.

INSIDER TIP   : Philippines Visa Waiver Program -  The term "visa waiver" is used interchangeably with "visa-exempt" and "visa on arrival." Each phrase refers to the same policy allowing citizens of 157 countries, including the United States and United Kingdom to enter the Philippines without applying for a visa beforehand.

9a Temporary Visitors Visa Requirements

You will need to provide certain documents that prove your identity and eligibility to enter the Philippines. Items can include your passport, birth certificate, and proof of financial capability. You need to provide additional documentation depending on your specific situation. Application requirements for the 9a vary by citizenship and Embassy. 9a visa extension fees after 2 months, 9a visa extension fees after 4 months, 9a visaextension fees after 6 months, long-stay visitor visa extension (lsvve) for visa-required foreign tourists.

For stays between up to 24 months  (2-years)- To reduce the hassle of multiple trips to the immigration office, visa-required foreigners can use the same LSVVE available to visa-free foreigners to extend their stay 6-months in a single transaction. However, a visa-required national receives a total of 2-years (vs. 3-years for a visa-free tourist) before needing to leave the country and repeat the process.

To completely eliminate the visa extension process, foreigners can apply for one of the Philippines ' permanent residence visas , such as the Special Retiree Resident Visa ( SRRV ) or Temporary Residence Visa by Marriage (TRV).

How long is a 9a Tourist Visa valid?

9a visas come with a validity of 3, 6, or 12 months. However, validity and a maximum authorized period of stay are different dates. A 6-month 9a still only allows a maximum stay of 59 days unless extended. But, you may exit then reenter the country for another 59 days within the 6-months.

Depending on the Philippine Consulate filing the visa application, you may have a choice of three different 9a visa types:

  • Single-entry valid for three months- allows for a maximum of 59 days
  • Multiple-entry valid for six months- provides for 59 days per entry
  • Multiple-entry valid for 12 months- provides for 59 days per entry

A Philippine BI office can then extend a 9a Tourist Visa by 1, 2, and 6-months for a period of 24 to 36 months, depending on your citizenship.

Where can I get health insurance that covers the COVID coverage requirement to enter the Philippines?

While you are not required to purchase private health insurance that includes at least $35,000 of COVID-19 treatment coverage, maintaining health insurance coverage while traveling is always recommended.

Click one of the links below for Philippine health coverage with international insurance companies.

  • COVID-19 Trip Insurance- A short-term health insurance plan specifically to meet the Philippines mandatory COVID-19 insurance for tourists to enter the country.
  • Travel Health Insurance - This will cover you for unexpected medical issues while overseas. However, the coverage requires you maintain insurance in the United States or your respective home country. I pay roughly $50 per month for complete coverage with no deductible.
  • Expat Medical Insurance - If you retire abroad, expat health insurance is a more complete option. Expat Medical Insurance is the "normal" insurance you are familiar with to from home. Coverage is built for people who live in a country versus traveling. While more expensive than Travel Medical Insurance, premiums are still cheaper than the US.

Will My Home Country Health Insurance Cover Me?

Most likely no. Most health insurance will not cover you for any injuries sustained outside your home country. You will either need to get travel medical insurance or Expat Medical Insurance .

If you retire abroad, expat health insurance is a more complete option. Expat Medical Insurance is the "normal" insurance you are familiar with to from home. Coverage is built for expats outside the US and insurance premiums are much cheaper than in the US.

Please note that some BI offices ( like Boracay ) require you make an online appointment to apply or extend your visa. Check with your closest BI office to confirm.

How long does it take to process a Philippines Tourist Visa application?

Visa processing time depends on your citizenship, which tourist visa you are applying for, and which specific Philippine Embassy or Consulate is processing your application. Passport control at your port of entry in the Philippines will process your visa on arrival.

Philippines Consular Services overseas take anywhere between 3 to 21 business days on receipt of application depending on the type of visa, additional documents required, and your citizenship.

Is the Philippines currently issuing 9a tourists visas?

As of February 10th, citizens of 157 countries can enter the Philippines visa-free. For citizens not in the 157 countries listed under EO 408, a Philippines tourist visa is more difficult to get. Visa-required nationals require an Entry Exception Document before applying for a 9a tourist visa.

Unlike European countries that limit you to 90 days out of every 180, there are no restrictions on the number of times you can apply for a Philippines tourist visa. The Philippines Visa on Arrival is a single-entry visa. However, the 9a can be a multiple-entry visa allowing you to enter and leave the country for as long as the visa is valid.

US Citizens and other citizens on the list of 157 countries that can enter the Philippines visa-free can get a Philippines tourist visa on arrival. I am Indian citizen married with filipina girl and stay Philippines since 5 years and I have TRV Id on my marriage basis upto 2025 but can i leave Philippines for my business for 7 days and after can I enter Philippines

The TRV is a multiple entry visa. As long as your visa is valid, you can leave the Philippines and re-enter on the same visa.

Hello, I am a Norwegian. If I enter the Philippines via a Tourist visa, can I directly extend my stay to 2 months at a local Bureau of Immigration office there or not? And if I can, is it highly likely that I will be granted the first 29-day extension there? Thanks.

If you arrive in Manila, you can go to Bureau of Immigration On-Stop Shop located at the 3rd level, Government Clearing Center of the NAIA Terminal 3 to extend. Or you can file your 29 day extension online or at your closest BOI office.

How to Extend Your Philippines Visa

One question, Marco, do I have to apply for a visa extension immediately or can I apply for it within say two weeks before my thirty-day tourist time expires? I was planning on flying into Cebu and then making my way to Makati to apply for a 60-day extension. Are there other places in the Philippines where I can apply for an extension? Thank you, John G. Bokay

Hi John, You can apply for a 29 day extension (technically called a visa waiver) immediately. There is a One-Stop Shop Bureau of Immigration office at NAIA terminal 3. However, you will not be able to apply for a 60 day extension until after 59 days (30 days initial visa exemption + 29 day visa waiver).

Hello I’m going to the Phillipines on the 01 may Would like to apply for a 3 year visa I have an expired acri card

Hi Geoffrey, there isn’t a “3-year visa" available per se. Assuming you are from one of the countries allowed to enter the Philippines visa free , you are allowed to stay in the Philippines up to 36 months via tourist visa extensions. First, arrive in the Philippines for your first 30 days, then apply for a 29-day visa waiver. After you first 59 days in the country, you can apply for 1,2,or 6 month tourist visa extensions for up to 3 years. An easier alternative is to apply for a long-term visa like the retirement visa , investment visa , or marriage visa .

My name is Luc, I’m a UK citizen, resident in the UK, UK passport. I am of Filipino dissent, my family in the Philippines have offered to house me if I ever wanted to come. I can see that the tourist visa is only 59days. Is there anyway for me to stay there for more than 3 months, preferably around 6 months? Without studying or being an employee? Thank you

Hi Luc, To clarify, the 9a tourist visa is for 59 days. However, UK citizens are allowed to enter the Philippines visa free for 30 days. After 30 days, you can extend another 29 days through what is called a visa waiver. After 59 days (30 +29), you can extend again for 1, 2, or 6 months at a time for UP TO 3 YEARS! All extensions can be done at a Bureau of Immigration branch or using their new online system.

ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE AT THE AIRPORT

Entering the philippines.

Immigration is quite fast at international airports in the Philippines. There are counters specific to Filipinos, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and foreign passport holders.

Make sure to fill the arrival card before heading to the immigration. If the airline staff hasn’t provided you with an arrival card, you can grab one from the immigration area at the airport.

If you are a visa REQUIRED passport holder, you will be asked if you have a visa. The officer will verify the visa, stamps your passport and marks an exit date. You must exit the Philippines within the exit date.

The immigration officers usually do not ask for return or onward ticket. But it’s a good practice to carry a copy of your return ticket and accommodation booking. If you are traveling on a one-way ticket, make sure to have  proof of onward ticket .

Get a proof of onward ticket for your trip from OnwardTicket

Exiting the Philippines

You will go through passport control on exit. Exit formalities are fairly quick as there a specific counters for the Philippines, ASEAN, and foreign passport holders.

Make sure to grab and fill the departure card before heading to the immigration. You can find departure cards at airline check-in counters and near the immigration area.

You will not be asked any questions unless you have overstayed your visa.

Isla de Gigantes in the Philippines

Philippines visa requirements are clear and easy to understand. The Philippines has a liberal visa exemption and extension policy. And hence a favorable place for travelers and expats alike.

A handful of countries require a pre-approved visa from the consulate. Visa rules for these countries are quite strict. Employment and financial proofs are mandatory. Visa can only be applied in the country of passport or legal residence. If you follow all the rules thoroughly, securing a visa for the Philippines is quite simple.

With a diverse population and rich biodiversity, the Philippines is a beloved tourist destination for travelers from many destinations. Outdoor adventures like whitewater rafting, hiking, snorkeling, and visiting natural sites are extremely popular. The Philippines also offers wonderful cultural activities and unique local cuisine. Each year millions of foreign tourists come to the island nation to enjoy the sites and local culture.

Certain foreign nationals require a Temporary Visitor’s visa that serves as a short-term entry travel document for the Philippines. Foreign nationals from the following countries are required to apply for a Philippines visa prior to traveling:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Nauru, Nigeria, North Korea, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Ukraine, and Yemen.

The Temporary Visitor visa is a short-stay visa for any traveler who wants to come to the Philippines for purposes of pleasure, business, study, or other short-term activities.

A Temporary Visitor visa is available as a single-entry or a multiple-entry visa. The single-entry visa is valid for three (3) months. The multiple-entry visa can be issued with a validity period of six (6) months or up to one (1) year. Each entry entitles the visa holder to a stay of up to 30 days in the Philippines.

Philippines Tourist Visa Requirements

To obtain a Philippines tourist visa, applicants must submit certain required documents.

The following documents are required for all foreign nationals applying for a Temporary Visitor visa:

The applicant should hold a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of departure from the Philippines. Passports must be electronic or machine-readable.

Applicants should make at least one (1) photocopy of the main bio data page of their passport. The bio data page contains all primary identification information and the passport holder’s photo.

The applicant is required to submit one recent personal photo, taken within the last 6 months, against a white background. Photos should be 3.5 x 4.5 cm and clear.

The application form must be accurately completed, printed, and signed. The form will be included with the other required documents for submission. Some foreign nationals are able to submit their visa application form online, but should still print out the form for their file.

This could be in the form of a travel itinerary, a letter from a tour/travel agency, or a hotel accommodation.

Applicants must have a ticket that departs from the Philippines before their tourist visa expires. Tickets must be issued by an official body like a travel agency or airline.

Applicants must show via bank statements or other documents that they have the financial means to support themselves for the duration of their stay in the Philippines.

The payment method for the visa fee will vary depending on where the applicant submits their visa application documents.

Additional documents may be required depending on where the applicant submits their documents and the complexity of their application.

Depending on where the applicant submits their tourist visa application, the application process may vary slightly. However, most applicants will take the following steps to apply for their Filipino tourist visa:

The application form should be completed online and printed, or completed by hand. All forms must be signed. Nationals of eligible countries can complete the visa application online at the Philippine Visa Online Portal .

All documents must be present and accurate for the visa application to be processed.

Applications can be submitted by post or in person at the nearest Filipino embassy or consulate. The method of submission will depend on the specific requirements of the foreign mission (embassy or consulate).

The payment method will vary depending on where the applicant submits their visa application. All fees must be paid for the application to be processed.

The fees for the Philippines tourist visa may vary from one foreign mission to another. Applicants should contact the foreign mission (embassy or consulate) to inquire about the visa cost and ensure they have the correct information before submitting the application and paying the fees.

Visa applications can be submitted by post or in person at the nearest embassy or consulate. The method of submission will depend on the specific requirements of the embassy or consulate. Some nationalities can submit their visa application form online at the Philippine Visa Online Portal . Once the application form is complete, applicants must print it out and submit it along with the other documents to the nearest embassy or consulate.

A Philippines tourist visa is typically processed within one to three (1-3) weeks depending on the foreign mission where the applicant submits their application and the complexity of the case.

If the visa application is approved, the applicant will be informed and their passport will be returned to them with the sticker visa placed inside their passport on a blank visa page. In some cases, the applicant will retrieve their passport with the sticker visa from the foreign mission. New visa holders are advised to carefully check the information on their visa to ensure it is correct and a match to the information in their passport.

In some cases, it may be possible for a tourist visa holder to extend their visa. To do so, they must visit the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines.

The visa fee depends on the embassy or consulate where the application is submitted. Applicants must review the fees for their visa before submitting their application.

Single-entry tourist visas are valid for three (3) months. Multiple-entry visas can be valid for six (6) months or up to one (1) year. The maximum duration of stay is 30 days.

In some cases, it may be possible to extend the tourist visa by contacting the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines.

multiple entry tourist visa philippines

Philippine Standard Time

Visa information.

A Philippine Visa is an endorsement made on a travel document by a consular officer at a Philippine Embassy or Consulate abroad denoting that the visa application has been properly examined and that the bearer is permitted to proceed to the Philippines and request permission from the Philippine Immigration authorities at the ports of entries to enter the country.

The visa thus issued is not a guarantee that the holder will be automatically admitted into the country, because the admission of foreign nationals into the Philippines is a function of the immigration authorities at the port of entry.

Definition of a Foreign Tourist (Temporary Visitor)

A “foreign tourist” is defined as a person without distinction as to race, gender, language or religion, who is proceeding o the Philippines for a legitimate, nonimmigrant purpose such as sightseeing, sports, health, family reasons, training or study (excluding enrollment in schools for the purpose of obtaining a title or degree), religious pilgrimage, business, cultural and scientific purposes.

Standard Procedure/Minimum Requirements for applying a Temporary Visitor’s Visa

Application for a temporary visitor’s visa must be made in person. In the case of a minor under eighteen (18) years of age, the application may be made for him by a person who, in the opinion of the consular officer, is responsible for his/her welfare. The minor, not an infant in arms, shall be required to appear at the Consulate for interview, together with the person making the application for him/her.

Applicants for temporary visitor’s visa should normally apply at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate that has jurisdiction over their place of residence.   • Clear photocopy of the data page of the child’s passport;

In case of a temporary visitor’s visa holder whose stay in the Philippines will exceed the authorized period of stay, he/she will have to report to the Bureau of Immigration, secure an extension of stay and pay the corresponding immigration fees. Information on fees for extension of stay and other Immigration fees are available at the Bureau of Immigration website ( www.immigration.gov.ph ).

How to Get a Multiple-Entry Korean Visa in the Philippines

While there’s no streamlined process to apply for a South Korea multiple-entry visa, more Filipino tourists are granted the privilege in recent years. Below we share the set of requirements that were submitted by successful applicants, relevant updates from the Embassy, and the details of the credit card promotions from BDO and RCBC.

multiple-entry-korean-visa

  • When you submit a tourist visa application, you will automatically be considered for a single-entry or multiple-entry Korean visa.
  • This means that, aside from the standard application process, there are no special steps to take nor requirements to submit if you want a visa that you can use multiple times within 3, 5, or 10 years.
  • However, it may help if you have a qualified credit card from BDO or RCBC, which are running separate promotions together with the Embassy.
  • Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Han Dong Man also shared that more qualified Filipino professionals will be eligible to get a multiple-entry Korean visa.
  • If you want to make the most out of your trip to Seoul, Jeju Island, or Busan, book your tours and travel essentials from WAUG — the #1 travel activity booking platform in South Korea! Check out the app here .

UPDATE: June 13, 2020

Who can I apply for a Korean visa? To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines currently only accepts applications for long-term visas . Tourist visa processing (C-3) is still on hold pending the easing of travel restrictions in the Philippines. What are the enhanced visa criteria? Those who are eligible to apply for a Korean visa must comply to these requirements and mandatory quarantine. Moreover, successful applicants will no longer be issued a visa sticker in their passport beginning July 1. Upon arrival in South Korea, they must present a printed copy of their visa grant notice instead. What if I have a valid Korean visa? Single-entry Korean visas that were issued on or before April 5, 2020 are no longer valid. You will need to apply for a new one. However, if you have a valid short-term multiple-entry Korean visa (5 years), you do not have to reapply. Conditions permitting, it can still be used in the future. For reference, you can read the Embassy’s detailed explanation here .

Multiple-Entry Korean Visa

If you plan to travel to South Korea for as many times as possible (I can’t blame you!), having a multiple-entry visa (or M.E. for short) surely helps. Not only will you save a lot of time, effort, and money, but you also won’t have to go through the stress that comes from awaiting the result of your application each time you want to fly in.

How can you apply for one, you ask? Hate to break it to you, but, technically speaking, you can’t. There’s no set procedure (like the one provided by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines), no option in the application form, nor any special requirement that you must submit. But does that mean it’s impossible to get a multiple-entry Korean visa? Of course not. All tourist visa applications are reviewed thoroughly, which means that the visa officer will automatically assess if you are eligible for a multi-entry endorsement. If your documents and background show that you are qualified and they decide to issue you one, then you shall have it even without asking for it — exactly why visas are considered a privilege.

Having said that (and here’s where it gets lighter!), there are still some ways to better your chances to get a multiple-entry Korean visa. Here are two that I think are most helpful:

1. Join the Multiple-Entry Korean Visa Promo from BDO or RCBC

If you have not heard about this exciting news yet, the Embassy of Korea announced two separate promotions with BDO and RCBC. The promo mechanics provided are very similar to each other, i.e. qualified cardholders will not have to submit their financial documents and will be considered for a multiple-entry visa that’s valid for up to 5 years. Here are the cards that are eligible:

BDO Gold Credit Cards

  • Gold Visa Credit Card
  • Gold Mastercard Credit Card
  • American Express® Gold Credit Card
  • Gold UnionPay Credit Card
  • Gold JCB Credit Card

BDO Elite Credit Cards

  • Platinum Visa
  • Titanium, Platinum and World Elite Mastercard
  • American Express® Platinum Credit Card
  • Cathay Pacific American Express® Credit Card (Standard and Elite)
  • American Express® International Dollar Charge Cards
  • Diamond UnionPay
  • Diners Club Premiere
  • JCB Platinum

The BDO Multiple-Entry Korean Visa promo is valid until December 31, 2022.

RCBC Bankards

  • World Mastercard (including co-brands Balesin and The City Club)
  • Black Platinum Mastercard
  • Diamond Platinum Mastercard
  • Visa Infinite
  • Visa Platinum
  • UnionPay Diamond

The RCBC Multiple-Entry Korean Visa promo runs until December 31, 2020.

If you are an active and current Principal of any of these cards, go ahead and check out our detailed guides to learn more:

  • These RCBC Credit Cards May Get You a Multiple-Entry Korean Visa!
  • Get a Multiple-Entry Korean Visa with These BDO Credit Cards

As a friendly reminder, while many eligible cardholders were able to get a multiple-entry Korean visa by joining any of the past and current promotions (including BPI’s), possession of a qualified credit card does not automatically guarantee visa approval or issuance of a multiple-entry document. As mentioned earlier, your application will undergo a thorough assessment, so be open to alternative results.

If you don’t have any of these high-tier cards, don’t feel hopeless! I know a lot of travelers who did not join the promo but were still able to get the multiple-entry type of visa to Korea (myself included). I think it’s got a lot to do with the next tip:

2. Improve your travel history

While this is an unofficial guideline, it’s by no means irrelevant or ineffective as many Filipino tourists may tell you: show that you’ve been traveling or, as WAUG puts it, explore more! This could mean traveling to South Korea as a tourist for a couple of times (using single-entry visas) and/or traveling to other countries for leisure, especially those that you’d also have to apply a visa for, like Japan, Australia, Canada, USA, and the UK.

Travel frequently to South Korea

How many trips to Korea will you have to take before being granted a multiple-entry visa? It actually varies. Some may say 2 or 4 trips within the past 2 years (under single-entry visas), but I’ve also encountered a few lucky Filipinos who had received an M.E. on the first time they applied (like I said, lucky!).

Based on my experience, though, it was after my third trip under a single-entry Korean visa that I was granted the multiple-entry type. Here’s how it panned out: I first applied in 2017, and I submitted all the requirements for employees (I was just 3 months into my job then!), except for the ITR because I had valid visas to Canada and the USA. The result: I was given my first single-entry, and boy, I was so happy.

For my next two applications in 2018 and January of 2019, nothing much changed about my background except that I also traveled to Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia and maybe increased my average daily balance (or ADB found in the bank certificate) significantly compared to previous years. I honestly thought I was going to get my M.E. visa on my third application or after visiting South Korea twice, but I was probably too hopeful. (Was still very grateful for the approval, though!)

It was when I applied for the fourth time in July 2019 when I finally got a multiple-entry Korean visa. Same job, same company, no high-tier credit card, but have already traveled to South Korea for three times within the last 2 years. (Also, like with all my previous applications, I did not submit my ITR because I was exempted.) To be honest, my friends and I saw it coming, and we’re glad when it did. I got a 5-year multiple-entry Korean visa, which I intend to use for these awesome activities and the like (here goes my plug!):

Travel to other countries

Moving onto the next one: build your travel history by visiting other countries. Now unlike traveling frequently to Korea, this commonly-shared tip is more difficult to expound on as it leads to many questions, such as Which countries should you visit? , How many countries must you visit? , or How many tourist visas from other countries must you have? No one can tell for sure, but without going into specifics, I suggest to visit countries that require a visa for tourists and those that do not. This will likely demonstrate two things: that you are an active traveler that contributes to countries’ growth and that you have already been granted a visa by other nations. Of course, doing this will not guarantee that you’ll get a multiple-entry visa right away (remember when I first applied for a visa?), but this may very well strengthen your cause.

If you want to build your travel history by visiting the likes of Japan, USA, Indonesia, or Vietnam (or simply want to take that much needed vacay to Boracay and Cebu), consider these offers from WAUG:

Update from Ambassador Han Dong Man

But what if you can’t join any of the credit card promos or are unable to travel frequently? Are you still eligible to get a multiple-entry Korean visa? I’d say yes. Here are some exciting news about the matter:

On June 2019, during the 70th Anniversary of the Philippines-South Korea Diplomatic Tied, Philstar.com reported this relevant quote from Korean Ambassador Han Dong Man:

“ For qualified people such [as the] business people, media people, of course, and government officers, we give them a multiple visa at least five years or 10 years with one single document saying that I’m working in this company.” Ambassador Han Dong Man, PhilStar

What the statement tells us is that the Embassy of ROK in the Philippines is keen on easing out visa requirements for Filipinos and expanding eligibility scope for multiple-entry Korean visa holders.

It also reinstates the November 2018 article from The Korea Times , which said that Filipinos are among Southeast Asians who will be considered to be given a multiple-entry document. The same article also defined qualified professionals to be ‘doctors, lawyers, professors, graduates of local universities with a degree for any four-year-plus program and those with an overseas academic degree equivalent to or higher than a master’s.”

While these updates are very exciting, note that as of writing time, they have not been formalized as an official guideline that’s published on the Embassy’s website.

Filipinos’ Tips to Get a Multiple-Entry Korean Visa

Now let’s look into actual stories of Filipino tourists who were able to get a multiple-entry Korean visa.

I got the following from this useful Facebook group , whose members from the Philippines are kind and willing to share their input and experiences (The group is set to ‘private’, so in lieu of linked Facebook posts, I’m sharing screenshots instead. Details were blurred out for privacy.) :

Third time’s the charm!

Below we see that it took Miguel 3 applications to get his multiple-entry Korean visa. He encourages applicants to keep trying and not give up.

multiple-entry-korea-filipinos-tips

The post reads: “Applying for a Korean visa is a tough process for me than for Japan Visa. I’ve been denied twice because of my status but when I applied for the third time i was given an ME to my surprise. Just my luck. So para sa iba na nahihirapan din dont give up. Try lang ng try.”

Got it on the first try!

A commenter from Guia’s post below shared that she got a 5-year multiple-entry Korean visa on the first time she applied. Here’s her background:

  • Travel history at the time of application: Hong Kong and Taiwan
  • BDO American Express® Gold Credit Cardholder
  • Applied with family

multiple-entry-visa-korea-bdo

The comment reads: “Got 5yrs ME last year, first time applicant. Travelled to HK & Taiwan lng. 50K bank account for me, hubby & daughter, BDO AMEX Gold holder, kinuha ko supplementary si hubby. I dont know if as family application helped me in having ME visa. Ako sponsored for the trip ng family.”

Travel history matters

For this commenter who also responded to Guia’s post, travel history is definitely a criteria to get a multiple-entry Korea visa. Here’s his:

  • 2009: Hong Kong
  • 2017: Japan, under single-entry visa
  • 2018: Korea, under single-entry visa.
  • 2019: Japan and Korea, both under a multiple-entry visa

Moreover, he didn’t join the BDO promotion.

Another comment also reads: “I think bigger factor yung OECD and PRC/IBP over bdo bpi gold.”

Multiple-Entry Visa to South Korea for 5 years!

Yana shares below that she got her “5-year ME visa” when she first applied.

multiple entry tourist visa philippines

We checked out the link she provided, and here’s most of what she shared: “My bank account had been active for almost 4 months at the time of application. Ideally it should be at least 6 months. Moreover, that bank account doesn’t have a lot of activity; I deposit money every month, but I’ve only withdrawn a couple of times. I’ve read that there should be a lot of deposits and withdrawals, so submitting bank statements of your payroll account might be better. And even if you’re a frequent traveller, have OECD visas, or submit BDO CC requirements, approval is, of course, still at the discretion of the consul…”

Yana also shared that she’s spent more than a year in her present company, has a single-entry Japan visa, has a Schengen visa, has a visa to the UK, a cover letter, and a BDO Gold card, to which she added: “no certificate of active account since delivery would have taken too long.”

No guarantees

Finally, we have Julie who shared that she was not given a multiple-entry Korean visa despite having an eligible card from one of the promos.

korean-visa-multiple-entry-blog

Her post reads: “Hindi rin pala guaranteed na multiple entry visa ang ma-ggrant kapag may BPI Gold na isusubmit.

When I submitted my docs to Reli Megamall 3 weeks ago, di na nila kinuha ang bank statement ko. Other documents I included were my ITR, COE and company ID (top local company, been working here for more than 5 years), credit card statement amd photocopy. Filled up the form with my 5 latest travels (Japan included, pero total of 6 country stamps ung nasa passport)

Pero ayun, single entry for 59 days pa din ang ginrant. Pero okay na din, at least approved. Minsan talaga subjective sa consul na mag-approve eh no? Baka may topak that day yung natapat sakin hehe [face with cold sweat emoji]”

All the best!

We hope this guide for getting a multiple-entry Korean visa in the Philippines helped! While the information listed here do not guarantee issuance or otherwise, I hope you get to plan well, stay positive, and trust the process. If you have any questions, do share them below so other travelers like you can help. Of course, we’d be more than happy to hear about your experience as well, so feel free to sound off in the comments section below!

Does the Philippines have multiple entry visas? Which visas allow multiple entry and exit?

Recently, EasyGo EasyTravel International has received many friends asking if the Philippines has a multiple entry visa? Today, EasyGo EasyTravel International is here to talk to you about the topic of multiple entry visas in the Philippines, and interested friends can learn about it.

菲律宾有多次入境签证吗?哪些签证可以多次出入境?

At present, there are many visas for multiple entry in the Philippines, such as Philippine business visa, Philippine retirement visa ( SRRV ), Philippine investment visa ( sirv ), Philippine small amnesty visa ( asrv ), Philippine amnesty visa ( sec13 ), Philippine marriage visa ( 13A ), Philippine 9G work visa... and so on are all visas for multiple entry and exit in the Philippines, except for Philippine business visa, the others are all long-term visas, only Philippine business visas are short-term visas.

Why can these visas enter and leave the Philippines many times?

Business visa: It is difficult to negotiate a project in the Philippines at one time. It takes many negotiations to complete. Considering this factor, it is only to give business the right to sign this short-term visa for multiple entry and exit.

As for long-term visas such as Philippine Retirement Visa (SRRV), Philippine Investment Visa (SIRV), Philippine Amnesty Visa (ASRV), Philippine Amnesty Visa (SEC13), Philippine Marriage Visa (13A) and Philippine 9G Work Visa, this is simpler. Although we have stayed in the Philippines for a long time, we have been visiting relatives and friends for various reasons. Business investment, etc., requires multiple entry and exit, so long-term visas generally bring their own multiple entry and exit rights.

If you want to apply for a multiple entry and exit visa from the Philippines, please feel free to contact us EasyGo Easy Travel International. If you have any other questions, please feel free to consult our online customer service.

How To Get a Multiple-Entry Australian Tourist Visa in the Philippines

Being granted a multiple-entry Australian tourist visa depends heavily on the Australian consulate examining your application. Factors such as your planned activities and reasons for going back and forth to Australia are considered.

To signify your intent for a multiple-entry visa, click “Yes” to the question “Does the applicant intend to enter Australia on more than one occasion?” (the question is found on page 9/19 of the online application via ImmiAccount and Question No. 4 on Form 1419 for paper-based application ).

multiple entry australian tourist visa

You will also be asked if you know the entry dates for each occasion after your first entry to Australia. If you click “No”, you will be asked to give details.

In my case, I just said that I plan to go to New Zealand as a side trip and come back to Australia after but I didn’t have a flight ticket to New Zealand yet so I couldn’t provide the dates when I will leave and come back to Australia.

Japan Multiple Entry Visa for Philippine Citizens [Full Guide]

' src=

People from 68 countries can travel to Japan without a visa. Unfortunately, the Philippines is not on the visa-free list. If you’re worried about how to get a Japanese multiple entry visa from the Philippines, this guide will help you with everything you might need. Read on!

Japan Multiple Entry Visa

What is a Japan Multiple Entry Visa?

The multiple-entry visa allows foreigners to enter the country to attend conferences, sightsee, visit friends, or take short courses. Periods of stay may be up to 15, 30, or 90 days, and the validity of the visa can be 1, 3, 5, or 10 years. What’s more, it gives you the chance to visit Japan for as much as you want without having to apply for a visa beforehand.

What is the difference between Multiple Entry visas and other visas?

There are two kinds of visas:  single-entry tourist visas  and multiple-entry tourist visas . A single-entry tourist visa allows foreigners to stay no more than 30 days. It will be valid for 90 days after issued. Therefore, you need to visit Japan within 3 months, or the single-entry tourist visa will expire. The validity of a multiple-entry tourist visa is much longer. This visa lasts for 1 to 5 years and allows for stays of up to 90 days per visit.

If you visit Japan for reasons other than tourism, you might need the visas below:

  • Multiple Entry Visa for Business, and Cultural or Intellectual Figures
  • Multiple Entry Visa for Other Short-Term Stays
  • A JFC visa for Filipino parents of Japanese-Filipino children traveling to Japan with their child/children.

Who is eligible for the application for a Multiple Entry Visa?

Generally, residents and citizens with valid Philippine passports can apply for Japan visas. All Philippine Citizens require a Japan visa if they want to visit Japan. You might also need vaccine certificates or a health declaration, but the requirements always change. Therefore, remember to check the rules before your trip.

As stated previously, there are two multiple-entry visas available for Filipinos: one is for business purposes, and one is for tourists. The latest update of the eligibility criteria influences only the multiple-entry visa for business purposes but not for all visitors. The applicants must belong to one of three categories:

  • An employee of a private company which is listed on the stock exchange (including Japan and third countries),
  • A regular employee of a public (government) enterprise,
  • A regular employee with more than three travel records to Japan for business purposes in the last three years.

What’s more, the Japanese embassy website lists 6 specific job categories of eligible applicants, including professionals (lawyer, doctor, certified public accountant), scientist, or a specialist in humanities “who has relevant accomplishments.”

Required Documents for a Japan Multiple Entry Visa

To apply for a Japan visa, you might require certain documents as below. They are:

  • Completed visa application form (Don’t leave anything blank. You can also get this from any of their  accredited travel agencies .)
  • Valid, signed Philippine passport
  • Recent photo pasted to the application form
  • Employment certificate
  • Documents evidencing that the applicant is employed under a qualifying category
  • Daily Schedule / Itinerary in Japan. (It includes the address and contact number of your accommodation and shows your planned tourism activities in Japan)
  • PSA birth certificate( It is required for minors and must be issued within the last year from the PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide)
  • PSA marriage certificate(If you are married, it is a necessity for you and it must have been issued within the last year from the PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide)
  • Follow-up Systems (ERFS)(You can use this system to get an ERFS certificate (eligibility certificate) before applying for a visa to visit Japan. Without it, you are not able to enter Japan because you can’t prove you are eligible for the visa)

Even though application forms and documents are listed on the embassy’s website, your application must be made via travel agencies accredited by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines. Therefore, you need to check what else is required for the application. The information is available on the Japanese Embassy website .

Following the guidance you can obtain all the correct documentation you need for your visa application.

How to apply for a Japan Multiple Entry Visa for Filipinos

The visa application process differs from person to person. All you need to do is follow the five steps below.

1. Fill out the visa application form . Remember not to leave blanks. Fill in N/A if an item is inapplicable to you. You need to provide your personal and travel information. Keep in mind that check whether your information is correct before submission.

Japan visa application form

2. Collect the required documents as we mentioned above.

3. Pay the application fee. After submitting the form and documents, you can pay the processing fee at the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate in the Philippines.

4. Wait for the Japanese government’s decision, receive your visa, and prepare for your trip.

💡 Note that the process to enter Japan does not end with your visa The visa will be checked by the immigration officer at the Japanese airport. Then, you will receive a landing permit from them. You need to keep your passport with you during your trip because this landing permission serves as a legal basis for your stay in Japan.

Japan Tourist Visa requirements in the Philippines

The requirements for a Japanese tourist visa in the Philippines differ from your situation. They depend on your purpose of visit, duration of stay, and financial status. Reading the requirements below might help you prepare for your visa application.

Japan Tourist Visa passport requirements

A valid passport is an important document for a Japanese tourist visa in the Philippines. Your passport must meet specific criteria and be acceptable for a Japan tourist visa application. Some of the passport requirements for a Japan tourist visa are as follows:

1. Validity : The validity of your passport must be at least six months beyond your intended stay in Japan. Otherwise, you need to renew it before applying for a Japan tourist visa.

2. Condition : A broken passport with missing pages is not acceptable or other damage is not acceptable. Your passport must be complete and in good condition.

3. Pages : There must be at least two blank pages of your passport because immigration stamps will be issued upon entry and exit from Japan.

4. Previous visas : You should affix your previous Japan visa to your current one if you used to have a previous passport. If you lose it, you need to provide a written explanation for the reasons why it is not available.

5. Other passports : If you have other passports, you should also submit them with your application and explain why you have multiple passports.

It’s significant to make sure that your passport meets all of these requirements before applying for a Japan tourist visa, which contributes to your smooth application.

Japan Tourist Visa photo requirements

Some of the visa photo requirements for a Japan tourist visa are as follows:

Japan Visa Photo Sample

1. Size and Dimensions. Your Japan Visa 45x45mm , head 27 mm photo size must be 45×45 mm, which means that your head must be between 27 and 28.35 mm from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head.

2. Color. The photo must be in color. Remember that the colors must be natural and clear. Any filters or effects that change them are forbidden.

3. Subject. The only subject of the photo is you. This means that no relatives, friends, or children should be in the frame.

4. Focus. The photo must be in focus, clear, and without blurriness or distortion. A blurry photo is a sure way to get your application rejected.

5. Recency. Your photo should be recent and taken within the last six months. This ensures that the photo accurately represents your current appearance (hairstyle, weight, facial hair, etc.).

6. Background. The background color of the photo should be plain white or off-white. Make sure that your face and features stand out clearly in the photo and that the lighting is even.

7. Smile. You can smile, but it must be a natural smile with both eyes open and your mouth closed. You’d better not to frown. Keep in mind that your face should be centered in the photo.

If my Japan Tourist Visa in the Philippines was rejected, what should I do?

There’s nothing you can do, except to wait for six months before you can re-apply. Your visa application won’t be accepted if your previous application was rejected and you will apply for the same purpose of visit within six months from the rejection. During these six months, you can get all your documents ready and ensure you’ll get approved next time. However, if you need to travel to Japan is necessary for humanitarian reasons, the application might be accepted. Consult with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate where you plan to apply for the visa before making the application.

Why would my application be rejected?

Your application did not meet the criteria for visa issuance might be the reason for the rejection. Here are the most common reasons are as follows.

  • Incomplete or inaccurate information
  • Insufficient funds
  • Criminal history
  • Suspicion of illegal activity
  • Lack of strong ties to your country of residence

Therefore, you’d better avoid the matters we mentioned above, which contribute to your smooth application.

Can the Japan Tourist Visa for Filipinos be extended?

Yes. If you have a sudden illness or other unavoidable circumstances that prevent you from visiting Japan before your visa expires, you can apply for an extension.

You can go to a local immigration bureau in Japan and apply. The officers will judge whether you are qualified for an extension. It is worth noting that the extension is not guaranteed. If you fail to apply for an extension, you should try your best to leave Japan before your visa expires.

Frequently Asked Questions About Japan Multiple Entry Tourist Visa

1. I will travel to Japan for the first time, can I apply for a multiple-entry Japan visa?

It’s possible if you have a high financial capacity, or your guarantor (immediate family) has a high financial capacity. But just to be sure, it’s safer to apply for a single-entry first if you’re a first-timer.

2. How much money should I have in my bank account ?

There is no clear answer to that. However, if you’re applying for a multiple-entry visa, consider having a 7-digit amount in your bank account . In that case, you’re eligible.

3. How long is the validity of a multiple-entry Japan visa?

Your visa is valid for 5 years. And you can stay for 15-30 days in Japan with your multiple-entry visa.

4. What if I have lapses in my requirements?

Your accredited travel agent will definitely inform you about this.

5. Do I need to book a flight and accommodation before I apply for the visa?

It is not required to have a confirmed ticket and accommodation before you apply. A RESERVED flight ticket and accommodation is advisable (with free cancellation is much better). Don’t take a risk of buying a plane ticket and booking accommodation when you’re not really sure if your visa will get approved or denied. Renting a flight is highly recommended as it’s cheap and reliable.

6. Should I put N/A or just leave an item blank when it’s not applicable to me?

This is one is confusing for applicants since most accredited agencies process both Japan and Korean visas. And these two countries have different policies. But the generally accepted rule is this: write N/A for Japan Visa and leave it blank for Korean Visa.
