We had a fantastic honeymoon trip to Thailand! We appreciated the private guides, drivers, recommended locations to stay, and can’t-miss activities in each city. Zicasso’s travel planner worked with us to customize our itinerary so we could have a leisure day in each city and customized activities as requested. During the trip, the travel agency checked in in case we needed anything. We had one request and they jumped right on it to make a change. My sisters and I took our father back to Vietnam this spring and I can't express how great it was working with Zicasso’s travel agent. We had an aggressive itinerary (as one does when you want to see everything!) and our agent was somehow able to make it all work. Having someone to plan all the logistics (in-county flights, hotels, drive times, etc) made the trip much less stressful than it would otherwise have been. However, what really made our agent and the company stand out was the attention to detail and the guides. Our agent met us at our hotel one day and had a gift for my dad… a small Vietnamese cyclo. It was something my dad had been mentioning as being very memorable and our agent went out of his way to buy a small one as a gift. A very cool gesture. The guides our agent hired were also very knowledgeable and paid attention to every little detail. They had no problem getting away from the itinerary and exploring something we expressed an interest in exploring or doing as we went along. We spent time at the post office sending our loved ones postcards and driving down lots of tiny roads searching for areas of the delta that looked familiar to my dad. Even after our trip was officially over and we were relaxing at our hotel on the last night, one of our guides showed up with the ingredients to make banh mi sandwiches because we mentioned wanting that for dinner. His favorite place was too far for us to get to from our hotel, so he drove there himself and delivered it to us as a final surprise. He perfectly embodied the Vietnamese people and how warm and inviting they are. I highly recommend our travel company and wouldn't hesitate to use them again on our next trip to Vietnam!

We really enjoyed working with Zicasso’s tour company to plan the trip. Our agent took into account our research and made suggestions/recommendations that enhanced the itinerary. We spent 11 days visiting Vietnam (HCMC, Hi An, Hanoi, Pù Luông, Ninh Bình, and Lan Ha Bay). It was an ambitious agenda that was executed without a hitch. The internal flights were arranged so we did not feel rushed (our guides walked us into the airport, helped us check in our bags, and stayed until we made it to security). Our driver during the latter half of the trip was extremely professional and kept an immaculate car, making sure we had water and whatever we needed during the multi-hour drives. Some of our guides could have been more knowledgeable, but my husband is a history buff and we tend to like a lot of in-depth information. The exception was our guide in Hanoi (and for the rest of the trip). He was fantastic and we were delighted that we had such a high-quality guide during the parts of our trip we had to rely on a guide the most. We were a bit taken aback that we had two guides for certain activities, but at the end of the day, we did not feel it was extraneous. The hotel selection was up to our standards. It was a mix of standard rooms in five-star luxury hotels and spectacular rooms in Pù Luông and on our Ha Long Bay cruise.

We had a very interesting 18-day trip to Laos and Vietnam in February. We worked closely with our Zicasso tour operator to plan a customized trip that included a number of stops and different experiences. We started in Laos, with the monasteries, waterfall/hiking, cooking classes in Luang Prabang, and outdoor activities in beautiful Vang Vieng (hiking, caving, and kayaking). We spent the next 13 days in Vietnam – chaotic Hanoi; beautiful Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh, with the fantastic limestone karsts; historic Hue, the Imperial City; picturesque Hoi An, with the serene and spectacular resort; ending up in Saigon for a day. We had three knowledgeable guides with different personalities and backgrounds – Laos, northern Vietnam, and central Vietnam. We had interesting and detailed discussions which enhanced our understanding of the history of the region, as well as the US impact on Laos and Vietnam. Although we liked our guides, we realized they were independent contractors and did not really have any input in our day-to-day itinerary (which did have changes from the original). Although most of the changes were fine, we would have liked better communication – letting us know about the changes and options. As a result, we spent more time managing each day's itinerary with our guides to ensure we liked the next day's itinerary. In summary, we truly liked and enjoyed our well-planned trip.

I would give the trip and company 4.5 stars, but that is not an option. Overall, the trip was interesting, and we felt the program allowed us to get a good overview of both Vietnam and Cambodia. Ms. Ha at the travel agency was excellent to work with. She was very prompt in responding to our queries, helped us plan a great itinerary, and attended to glitches right away. The arrangements, especially in Vietnam, were very good, our guides were always punctual, knowledgeable about their cities, and keen to share that knowledge with enthusiasm. We appreciated the fact that in Hanoi, our guide went out of his way to help us with money exchange and pharmacy purchases and also allowed us to fit in an unscheduled visit to the Hanoi Hilton (at our expense, of course). It was also very nice to have dinner with Ha on our final day in Vietnam. The cruise on Halong Bay was a bit disappointing. For people who do not want to kayak or swim, there were very few activities, and the ship spent a lot of time anchored rather than cruising. The rooms on board, however, were very good. All hotel choices were very good, and we would like to give a shout out to the hotel in Hoi An, which was a charming place to stay at. We enjoyed Cambodia, but the 95+ degree heat detracted somewhat from our enjoyment and exploration of the temples in Siem Reap. Due to a mix-up with the operator in Cambodia, and despite our mentioning this to the guide, we went to all the temples in a single day, which was somewhat exhausting. Our guide was knowledgeable but seemed to go strictly by the book. Unfortunately parts of Angkor Wat were closed to tourists the first day because of the king's visit. The next day's excursion to Tonle Sap Lake and Banteay Srei temple was slower-paced and more enjoyable, and on our free third day, we rented a tuktuk and enjoyed a trip through the countryside to the Landmines Museum. Our guide in Phnom Penh was great and made recent history come alive.

We had an amazing trip which was pretty much faultless. Everything was easy and very well organized, and any small thing that we wanted addressing throughout the holiday was actioned immediately. Our travel specialist was great and frequently checked in throughout the holiday. Before the holiday, our travel specialist offered many ideas of what to do but worked really closely with me on preparation as I liked many ideas but there were particular things and hotels we wanted to go to, and these were all incorporated. Our travel specialist also helped with Visa preparation, etc. On our last day before we left for the airport, our travel specialist called the hotel for a final check-in, which was lovely. Both my husband and I have high standards, and we came away from this trip thinking it was one of our favorites, and we travel a fair bit. Thanks to the travel company and, in particular, our travel specialist.

Pi Mai Festival- Lao New Year

       April 13-15 every year, the entire country comes to a grinding halt. April 13 is officially the Last day of the old year. The next day is empty, belonging to neither the old nor the New Year. This 15 th is the official start of the Lao New Year, or Pi Mai Lao.  This is The Time to wash away the past and Wish for a good future. Loa people symbolize this by throwing water at each other, for mutual Purification and blessing.  This is just about every-one, everywhere, getting drenched all the time, so don’t expect to stay dry, and join in the splashing fun with the entire Lao population!

Luang Prabang, or Louangphrabang, literally: "Royal Buddha Image (in the Dispelling Fear mudra)", is a city located in north central Laos, at the confluence of the Nam Khan river and Mekong River about 425 km north of Vientiane. It is the capital of Luang Prabang Province. The population of the city is about 50,000.

The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We are traveling to Laos in February and need to know the dates of the Elephant Festival in Sayabouly. Can you assist with guesthouse accommodations in Sayabouly for the festival and transportation options from Luang Prabang? Thanks.

Laos Festival is taken place from February 17th to February 19th. SAY-ANANH HOTEL and ELIPHANGLOT HOTEL are names of recommendation. You can take a local bus from Luang Prabang with the price of abt 60,000 kip and departure time of around 9.00 am. You can also hire private transportations but the cost will be higher.

Both, with more than 20 years each of experience in organizing trips to Laos, explain to you how the O.R.L.A Tours agency was born.

Charly RENAUDIN

I had the chance to grow up in the world of tourism in Asia. At the age of 15, in 1993, my parents opened their own agency in Thailand, and then in Laos.

It was in the year 2000, at the age of 22, that I started working for the family agency in Laos as a jungle circuit tracker to meet the local tribes, and then as a guide for large groups. At the time, these newly discovered circuits were intended for French travel catalogues.

Following their retirement, it was in 2012, and with my colleague and longtime friend Phasouk, that we started to create our travel agency.

From now on, as a team, we combine all this experience to serve you and our tour operator partners around the world to create unique and tailor-made tours.

Phasouk VANSAVATH

I started my career in tourism in 1999 after graduating from the French department of the National University of Laos in Vientiane.

First a French-speaking guide, then responsible for the team of guides, my role was to guarantee the fulfillment of your expectations and empower the guides so that exchanges with ethnic groups are beneficial for everyone.

Regularly scouting in the field since the very beginning of my career, I am continuously surveying with the team and checking that the proposed circuits are really as good as we say they are.

My 21 years of experience have brought me a knowledge of this country’s best kept secrets which today allows me to create innovative and special tours with my team, incomparable to mass tourism.​

Our association Enfants du Laos aims to develop access to education in the villages of mountain ethnic groups to enable these children to have the same opportunities as children in the city to find a job and obtain a better future on their own.

These villages lack resources, which is why we have built a computer school from scratch and are setting up new education systems in cooperation with the local authorities.

300 children from the Hmong and Khamu village of Ban ViengHin are currently being provided with computer and foreign language lessons by Enfants du Laos.

Our long-term goals are to provide sustainable support and autonomy to families to contribute to the education of their children.

The lunch we had after visiting the caves wasn’t very good but the other two lunches included while in Luang Prabang were delicious.

The Crown Plaza hotel in Vientiane was amazing. The second hotel was not good at all. The last one, the Santi Resort was ok. The guide was good and gave very good explanation. The driver very safe and good. The included meals were so-so.

What people love about Laos Tours

Absolutely loved Laos although would have liked to have spent more time in Luang Prabang. Our first guide was fantastic and so incredibly knowledgeable. For three star accommodation I could not fault it. Unless you particularly want to see the countryside, I would highly recommend to fly like my friends did to Vientiane, as the itinerary lied. The trip was not the 8 hours like stated, rather closer to 12 hours. There were limited English speaking people and the communication was limited therefore I was unsure what was going on at times regarding the arrival time to Vientiane. Furthermore it was not explained what our food voucher was for and there were not toilet break between the 2pm lunch break and the arrival time in Vientiane over 5 hours later. Don't be deceived either by the 'Deluxe' bus as it is 'Deluxe' 3rd world style. No biggie however had the most amazing hotel on the Mekong River, overlooking Thailand however the internet was non existent unless you were in the reception or restaurant. Compared to the communication from Hoi An Express during my Vietnam tour, I found the communication in Laos was very limited. There was no communication regarding my transfer between cities and it was something I was required to chase up myself.

Would appreciate any recommendations from the more experienced who have "been there and done that".

Never used a tour operator in Laos, it is easy to do yourself and with only about 8 days you are restricted where you can go.

That's our problem at the moment unfortunately. The only way we can get to either is with significant layovers and we don't do layovers very well. Hopefully Air Asia will bounce back reasonably quickly and we won't have to wait too long. In the mean time we'll visit our friends in Bali.

Impressive cruise in Halong Bay

It was hot when we were there, but they always provide coconut juice to cooling us down wherever we arrived. Some locals may have whole families working for coconuts.

We visited the houses of the locals and took a boat. The river was quiet and comfortable.

The food at the B&B was delicious and the host was very friendly.

My three friends and I recently went on a long tour and we were highly satisfied with how the tour was handled. There were no glitches or problems throughout the entire trip. Upon arriving at each destination, our guide and driver were already waiting for us outside the arrival area. The hotel choices were excellent and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable about the places we visited. Additionally, most of our lunches were included, allowing us to savor the cuisine of each country. We would like to express our gratitude to Eliese for organizing and facilitating the itinerary for each country we visited. We wholeheartedly recommend "Autour Asia" to our friends!

I had a delightful meeting with Mrs. Laura and her mother from Switzerland at Autour Asia in Hanoi, which made for a great start to my new work week. They were charming and had a great sense of humor. It was their first time in Asia, so they were filled with excitement to explore all the new things here. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would love to return. The guides were knowledgeable and provided us with valuable information. However, our only observation is that they seemed to have difficulty engaging in conversation. We understand that this could be attributed to the complexity of the English language and translation.

Ms. Oanh is not only a delightful person but also possesses extensive knowledge about the places of interest she took us to. One noteworthy aspect was the sequence of our visits. She wisely took us to the Cham Museum in Da Nang on the first day, before our trip to My Son Sanctuary on the fourth day. This arrangement enhanced our understanding and appreciation of these historical sites as there were connections between them. Moreover, Ms. Oanh recommended that we visit the remarkable government cruise boat in Da Nang, known as the Dragon Cruise (or something similar), which was docked along the river, opposite the Cham Museum, on Sunday. We had the opportunity to enjoy a delightful dinner on the cruise and witness the mesmerizing fire and water show on the Dragon Bridge. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Once again, thank you for everything.
