10 Unforgettable Moments on the Celebrating Disney100 Tour

by Trisha Daab | Oct 13, 2023 | Disneyland , Disneyland Parks

disneyland disney 100 tour

We’re sharing ten unforgettable moments from the limited-time Celebrating Disney100 Tour at Disneyland Resort.

At the end of September, during my first-ever trip to Disneyland, I went on the Celebrating Disney100 Guided Tour. The limited-time tour is two hours at Disneyland Resort, taking guests on a journey through the parks as they discover fascinating stories about The Walt Disney Company from the past and present.

What is the Celebrating Disney100 Tour?

The guided tour includes walking through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, with tours of Buena Vista Street, Animation Academy, Main Street Opera House, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Sleeping Beauty Castle. You’ll also get to take part in a unique drawing experience at Animation Academy, reserved viewing for the Magic Happens Parade , a Disney100 Celebration treat, and a Disney100 commemorative pin. This tour was only available for a limited time in celebration of the Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary, available for $110 per person (ages 3 and up).

10 Unforgettable Moments from the Celebrating Disney100 Tour

This was my 20th visit to Disney parks but like any Disney trip, was full of firsts: my first time at the Disneyland Resort, my first Halloween party, and my first Disney tour. After doing both the Disney100 Tour and Walt’s Main Street Story Tour, I’m officially a tour enthusiast and can’t wait to do one on my next Disney parks trip. These are 10 of the unforgettable moments on the Celebrating Disney100 Tour Guided Tour.

1. The Walt Disney Company History Brought to Life

Over the 120 minutes, we walked the full history of Disney from animation at Disney California Adventure to Walt’s dream for Disneyland. My FitBit was happy with me for once because of all the steps from our start in Disneyland on Main Street, then to Disney California Adventure and along Buena Vista Street, over to Animation Academy (more on that later), and then back to Disneyland to go down Main Street and end at the Partners Statue.

Thank goodness my friend Jamie, who researched and scheduled the tour for us, also made sure we had a Disney breakfast of champions – popcorn and a cookie! As a Disneyland Resort newbie, this was an incredible introduction to both parks. Main Street, U.S.A. is modeled after Marceline Missouri from Walt’s childhood, but what was fascinating to learn was Walt’s history with animation that is sprinkled throughout Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Lane at Disney California Adventure.

Like Elias & Co, named after Walt’s Dad. Carthay Circle is another homage, named and modeled after the theater that held the premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Disney’s first animated full-length feature film.

2. Audio Clips of Walt

Does anyone else get emotional when hearing Walt’s voice? The creators of this tour were definitely going for all the feels with the sprinkling of Walt audio clips throughout the tour.

disneyland disney 100 tour

The one that really got me was the clip of Walt that played while we walked into Disneyland and passed under the sign with the quote “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.”

3. Fun Stories About Walt and Lillian Disney

A unique part of this tour is Cast Members were able to give input into its creation. Cast Members are often the biggest Disney fans and would love to know how many of the fun stories sprinkled throughout the tour came from them. I’d heard the stories of all that went wrong on the opening day of Disneyland and its nickname Black Sunday. On the tour, I also learned that workers accidentally painted Walt into his apartment prior to opening.

celebrate disney100 tour

As a Lillian Disney fan, I enjoyed hearing tidbits about her. In the Disney100 exhibit area on Main Street, our tour guide Amanda shared a fun story about Lillian. She was hesitant about Walt picking out a dog for her because she said Walt didn’t always have the best taste. The dog Walt picked out went on to be a much-loved pet by Lillian and the inspiration for Lady and the Tramp.

4. Moving Moment with Roy Disney

Another all-the-feels moment was when an audio clip from Roy Disney’s opening day speech at Walt Disney World’s grand opening at Magic Kingdom played. This is when we hit the point in the story that Walt had passed away. It was now up to Roy, the Imagineers, and even Walt’s family to continue his legacy and work on what had been started in Florida.

In the walking portions, we were treated to soundtracks of old Disney park shows. That way we could hear when our tour guide warned us repeatedly to be careful crossing the trolley tracks. The trolley, I consistently walked in front of. At Disney World, there are way fewer vehicles and the obstacle is dodging people abruptly stopping to take pictures of the castle.

5. Closing Question

The guided portion of the tour ended near the Partners Statue, right in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. We were once again treated to an audio clip of Walt. Part of the clip included a quote I hadn’t heard before “It seems to me, we have a lot of story left to tell.” Then our tour guide closed with, “What stories will you tell?” Weeks later and I still get all the feels from that one.

6. Animation Academy Magic

During the Disney California Adventure portion of the tour, we visited the Animation Academy. Our entrance was backstage, across from the Hyperion Theatre which featured a long hallway with drawings of classic characters including Jiminy Cricket, Tinker Bell, and Alice.

We were then treated to an empty Animation Academy and a presentation from our animator on hundreds of years of Disney animation. All before they let in additional guests from the regular attraction line. Our animator chose for us to draw Dumbo. I’ll be honest, I was not excited about this portion of the tour. My crafty friend Jamie who even went to art school was stoked. I was nervous.

My kids will tell ya, that drawing is not my strength. My stick figures even look off. But imagine my surprise when my Dumbo actually started to look like something! Our animator regaled us with fun stories about the making of Dumbo and how much audiences loved seeing this film during some of the darkest days of World War II.

disneyland disney 100 tour

Next thing I knew we were told to put the finishing touches on Dumbo and to make sure we signed our drawings. For the first time in my adult life, I proudly signed my name to something I drew! Since this was in the middle of the tour, the drawings were gathered up and held for safekeeping until we went to the designated viewing area for the parade a few hours later.

7. All About the Pins

We walked away from this tour with not one, but two pins. The first had our names with the Disney100 Tour logo. The pin-collecting folks got really excited about the special tour pin featuring Mickey Mouse and the Disney100 logo.

disneyland disney 100 tour

This pin is so big it needs two backs. It was definitely not going on the backpack.

8. Special Photo Shoot

After receiving our pins, and before being free to wander the park for a few hours, it was Disney PhotoPass time. Disney PhotoPass photographers are some of my favorite Cast Members! It is a VERY tough job and they do it with a smile.

disneyland disney 100 tour

This photographer was no exception. She loved Jamie’s Disney100 ears and took one of my favorite photos of the entire trip.

9. Parade Viewing

A few hours after our tour finished we got what Jamie came for, and had a special viewing area for the Magic Happens parade. This was the first time either of us had seen this parade. It’s come and gone since its opening in February 2020. This was unlike the parades I’ve seen at Disney World.

This parade had a style and soundtrack with a song that felt more mainstream. The choreography was less big smiles and childlike and more edgy. This clip of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen shows off the different styles of Disney parade dance moves.

10. Celebrate with Sweets

A celebration at Disney is not complete without some sort of sugar. Enter the Disney100 Tour giant cookie. It’s chocolate brownie flavored and adorned with a Mickey, a thick coat of frosting, and celebratory star sprinkles. Between the heavyweight cookie and the commemorative pin, I am so glad we rented a locker!

disneyland disney 100 tour

The Disney100 Tour delivered on its promise of experiencing “Disneyland as a living story.” Love commemorative pins, pics and cookies. But, for me the highlight was drawing Dumbo while being regaled with stories and the rare and moving audio clips of Walt, perfectly placed to tell the story of the magic he created that lives on today.

Disney 100 – All About Disney’s 100th Birthday Celebration

  • Disney World

disneyland disney 100 tour

Updated March 9, 2023

This year brings lots of excitement to Disney Parks, including all new entertainment, merchandise and more for the big celebration.

Why are we celebrating?

The Walt Disney Company turns 100 years old!

That’s a big deal.

Let’s dive in to see what’s in store for us.

Basic Scoop

During the entire 2023 year, Disney Parks will be celebrating the Walt Disney Company turning 100 years old.

This is a global celebration, encompassing all 6 Disney Parks, with the kick off happening at the Disneyland Resort on January 27, 2023.

Throughout this year, all parks will be hosting events and shows to commemorate this achievement for Disney. I can’t wait to see it!

disneyland disney 100 tour

The Disneyland Resort gets us started with fantastic fun including:

  • All new Wondrous Journeys Nighttime Spectacular (fireworks) – info here
  • All new World of Color One – info here
  • Magic Happens Parade returns February 24, 2023 – info here
  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction opens January 27, 2023
  • Lots of themed food around the resort – find Disney’s foodie guide here

How to Ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

*** This dedicated post shares what’s below and more. Check it out.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will include a virtual queue at opening. There will be no standby line. You may ride this attraction in one of two ways:

Virtual Queue

Here’s how it works:

  • The virtual queue will be accessible to guests at both 7am PST and 1pm PST each day.
  • You do not have to be in the park to enter the virtual queue at 7:00am, but you do have to have a ticket or Magic Key and a theme park reservation to Disneyland.
  • Guests with park reservations for both Disneyland and DCA may try at the 1:00pm slot. But! You have to have entered a park (and have your ticket scanned) to be eligible. And, if you started the day at DCA, you must have a hopper ticket to enter Disneyland park, where the attraction is.

Here are the steps to follow to ensure you grab a spot:

  • Before arriving at the park, attach each person’s ticket or Magic Key to your Disneyland app.
  • If you aren’t confident in your wifi connection, use data. Every second counts in a Disney virtual queue, so be sure you’re in a good spot.
  • At 6:00am, go into the Disneyland app and build your party. “Building your party” includes selecting each guest’s ticket to form a party.
  • Once the 7:00am PST time arrives, enter the queue immediately and follow the prompts. If you’re unsuccessful at 7am, try at 1pm.
  • If you’re successful, you’ll receive a prompt on your phone when it’s time to ride.

Here are some tips for the virtual queue:

  • Use your phone to keep an eye on the clock. You need a precise time.
  • At 6:59am, count down to the very second that 7:00am arrives by using a watch or the second hand on your clock app.

A la carte Lightning Lane

Individual (a la carte) Lightning Lanes become available as soon as you walk in the park at the Disneyland Resort. Using any of these options will not interfere with your Genie+ purchase. The two work together on the app.

Find your options for purchasing any of the a la carte Lightning Lanes in the Disneyland app on the Tip Board, where you’re using Genie+. You are not able to select a window at any point in the day. Instead, the return windows for each of these attractions will be the next available, just like Genie+ works (and how FASTPASSES worked).

disneyland disney 100 tour

How to Plan Your Day So You See and Do Everything

Disneyland really does these big celebrations well. The incoming shows are supposed to be amazing, so I hope you’ll make time to see them.

Here’s where I come in.

I’m not an influencer. I don’t do much Disney style. But, I know how to keep guests out of line. This is where I excel.

With that in mind, I recommend you start your day with one of my strategies (or one you know has been tested and proven to work in the parks). Arrive early and get busy with rides when the lines are low. This will put you in great shape for entertainment in the afternoon/evening.

Find my strategies with details on where to go and what to do in this post . These are tested monthly in the parks and/or at home remotely.

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World continues its 50th Birthday celebration through March 2023.

I’ll share more about its participation in the Disney 100 celebration as we learn more.

International Disney Parks

Internationally, we’re celebrating too!

Hong Kong Disneyland is said to unveil a new statue of Walt and Mickey Mouse.

I’ll be at Disneyland for the launch to share all the fun with you and then at WDW, too, throughout the year.

Disney shares all about the celebration in this post .

As always, let me know how I can help you plan!

Will Disneyland be celebrating any of the remaining Club 55 members, which I am one of. I believe there are only 6 left? Bob Penfield

I wish I knew! So cool, Bob.

Do you happen to know when the 100 year celebration ends? We’d love to see it, but aren’t traveling until early January, 2024. Thanks!

I haven’t heard of an official end date, but if I do, I’ll update this post.

I’m so excited – we go in exactly 30 days! So question on the virtual queue for Runaway Railway. At Epcot this fall we were able to get in the virtual queue for Cosmic Rewind in both the morning and AGAIN in the afternoon, AND a third time when they did the late afternoon virtual queue. Do you know if this is a possibility with Runaway Railway?

Not that I’m aware of. I’ll be watching for any options that deviate from what I’m expecting and have detailed in this post. Lots to learn!

so correct me if I am wrong, You can’t ride the ride unless you pay for Genie or lightening lane? So you spend a fortune getting there with flights, rental car, gas, Tickets to the park, hotel and now to ride you have to pay more? Seems unfair to me. You are totally stopping the low and most middle class families from coming. I thought Walts dream was for it to be accesible to everyone. Oh well thanks

You may actually use the virtual queue at no cost. I list the steps to make sure you are successful at entering it in this post because it will be competitive when it first opens.

I apologize for the confusion.

Hi Casey! We will happen to be there on the first day of the Disney 100 celebration as the last day of our Disneyland trip. I’m wondering if it will be best to avoid Disneyland in the morning and do DCA instead (we have park hopper passes and 2 little girls) or if it will be worthwhile to fight the crowds and be in Disneyland that morning. Also, it just dawned on me today that the new ride is likely to be on an Individual Lightning Lane instead of included on Genie+ which we will have. Do you think on opening day it will 1. Be available to purchased Lightning lane passes for that ride? and 2. Be worthwhile to purchase them versus standing in the standby line? Also, do you have any guesses on what they will charge for individual Lightning lane passes? We have a 6 and 4 year old daughter so even the best ride will be spoiled by a 2 hour wait. Thanks for your help!

Hi Natalie.

All great questions. I have most of the answers you need.

I think you should go to Disneyland. It’s going to be such a fun, memorable day.

I updated this post that you commented on with all you’ll need to know about the new ride including how to use the virtual queue and how to purchase the a la carte Lightning Lane.

It’s hard to know how the virtual queue will play out vs the LLs. I would take a look at my notes in this post on how to be successful in the queue so you’ll have your best shot at it.

Try at 7:00am. (You’ll need to start your day at Disneyland for that.) If you’re unsuccessful, buy the LLs. It’s only money and you’ve likely blown a small fortune by the last day so what’s a bit more?

I kid. I kid. But it might be worth it to budget for this. There will be lots of excitement around this attraction that day.

I don’t know costs for the LLs yet, but I’ll update this post as soon as I do. I’m at the media event next week (3 days long!), so I will be gathering lots more info.

Let me know how else I can help.

Thanks for all of your answers! That is very helpful! We’ll be in Disneyland tomorrow morning and I’m getting prepared to enter the virtual queue both times! Hopefully we can ride it sometime tomorrow! ??

Disneyland is the heart of the Disney100 celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. This celebration has elements across the entire resort with a new attraction, new nighttime entertainment, food, and much more.

You’ll see the dates for the celebration below along with additional announcements and our reviews of this platinum 100th anniversary which will be celebrated all year long.

Disney100 Disneyland Celebration Dates

disneyland disney100 datees

The Disney100 celebration kicked off at Disneyland on January 27, 2023 . This is the year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. The Disney Company started in 1923 as the Disney Brothers Studio when Walt Disney and his brother Roy Disney set up shop. No end date has been announced for the Disney100 Celebration at Disneyland at this time. Based on previous precedent, the celebration will last at least through 2023 and likely into the first half of 2024.

In addition to the launch of the Disney100 celebration, the new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway also debuted at Disneyland on January 27th. Guests have the option of a normal standby queue for the attraction or to purchase an individual lightning lane. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway no longer requires a virtual queue . The attraction is part of Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland which is completely renovated and opening as part of the Disney100 Celebration.

disneyland disney 100 tour

The two new nighttime spectaculars, “Wondrous Journeys” and “World of Color – One” have already debuted. The new fireworks show may be the best that Disney has ever created. See details on both these shows below. The Magic Happens parade has also now returned.

Walt Disney World is also celebrating Disney100 . Click for our guide to the celebration on the East Coast.

when is disney100 celebration

In Disneyland Park, decorations are up on Sleeping Beauty Castle and include the addition of two water fountains on either side of the moat, a wishing star added to the tower above the castle plus the three Good Fairies hanging the platinum banners. Plus, there is bunting all along Main Street. In Disney California Adventure, there is bunting all along Buena Vista Street and a large Disney100 medallion near the end of the street.

Disneyland MagicBand+ will interact with both the new Wondrous Journeys Disneyland fireworks show and the new World of Color – One show. The band will also interact with select decorations throughout the parks later this year.

There are also two large Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Disney100 platinum statues on Main Street celebrating the iconic couple. You’ll find the Mickey Mouse statue in Town Square and the Minnie Mouse statue just outside of Tomorrowland.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse appear in platinum costumes throughout the celebration.

Wondrous Journeys

disney100 celebration disneyland fireworks show

Wondrous Journeys is the brand new fireworks spectacular created just for the Disney100 Celebration! This show may be the best that Disneyland has ever created and is a complete must-see during your Disneyland day.

This fireworks show includes nods to all 62 Walt Disney Animation Studios films that have been released plus the new “Wish” film coming this November. The fireworks will specifically celebrate the 100 years of the Walt Disney Animation Studios. The specific films that were called out by Disney that we expect to be featured more heavily are “Encanto,” “Hercules,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “Peter Pan,” “Frozen,” “Treasure Planet,” “Big Hero 6,” and “Moana.”

Read our full Disneyland fireworks review and reflection on what makes this show so special.

Baymax from “Big Hero 6” and the Blue Fairy from “Pinocchio” fly over the castle during the performance. Both of these characters fly during both the fireworks version of the show and the projections only version of the show.

You can see a snippet of the show that we saw and shared on Facebook during the media preview of these new Disney100 fireworks.

The show features state-of-the-art projection effects that touch on a journey filled with “artistry, music, storytelling and heart.” I can confirm that the projections are brighter than over on Main Street and the imagery brings the buildings on both sides of the street to life.

Like other recent fireworks shows, the show will be projections only on some nights (likely during the week) and have fireworks on other nights.

World of Color- One

disney100 special world of color presentation

World of Color-One is a brand new World of Color themed nighttime spectacular coming to California Adventure just for the Disney100 Celebration. The show continues to utilize the World of Color virtual queue for seating.

Disney has shared new details on the show including the fact that this will be the first Disneyland nighttime spectacular to include characters, music and moments from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel, and Star Wars in the same production. Almost the entire company will be represented in the show. This is not our favorite version of World of Color which we explain in our World of Color guide linked on the virtual queue page below.

Some characters and films we have seen featured in clips and photos shared so far include Pocahontas, Moana, Encanto, Soul, the portals scene from Avengers: Endgame, and Baby Yoda and the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars.

When we saw the show my favorite moments were the Avengers portals reveal and the Star War Millenium Falcon moment.

disneyland disney 100 tour

And, the Millenium Falcon Star Wars scene which you can see clearly in the promo shot below.

disneyland disney 100 tour

The show tells the story of how a single action, like a drop of water, can create a ripple that transforms into waves of change. In the same way that Walt Disney started a wave to inspire people around the world through stories 100 years ago, this show looks at how one action can make a change. The show also features a new original song called “Start a Wave” which was actually my favorite part of the new show.

world of color disney100 star wars

The World of Color – One show feels somewhat lacking and doesn’t hit the emotional beats that the original World of Color show delivers on. If you have never seen World of Color, this show is still worth seeing for the incredible feat of Imagineering that pulls it all together but this version of the show is not our favorite. I will be back again to see it soon as the first time I saw it, the evening was quite windy and aspects of the show were impacted.

Magic Happens Parade Returns

Plus, on February 24th, 2023, the awaited return of Magic Happens parade will return! This is a colorful show with a pop song theme that I have grown to love even more over the span of COVID. I saw this show just a few days before the world shut down in 2020. Amazing it will be back after three years in storage!

This brand new parade only completed a two-week run in March 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an extended park closure and the parade has not returned since. We are so excited to see this wonderful parade return and its theme fits nicely with the celebration of Disney’s 100 years!

Disney Gallery Disney100 at Disneyland Exhibit

disneyland disney 100 tour

The Disney Gallery on Main Street at Disneyland Park features a new exhibit that will pay tribute to the Disney films that became Disneyland Resort attractions and the park attractions that then led to Disney films.

disneyland disney 100 tour

They made nice use of the space to bring in rarely-seen concept artwork from attractions and original maquettes of various figures from attractions. The exhibit includes film and theme park concept art, an animator’s desk, a model of a multi-plane camera, and more.

disneyland disney 100 tour

New Disneyland Esplanade Background Music Loop

disneyland disney 100 tour

There is always a collection of upbeat Disney songs meant to get you ready for your Disney day when you enter the Esplanade area between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. The loop is also sometimes the same in Downtown Disney.

Disney has updated this playlist ( someone already has it up on Youtube here ) to reflect songs from Disney Parks around the world in honor of the Disney100 celebration. On our first day of the celebration, I was pleasantly surprised by the collection of new songs. These are a mix of popular tunes and deep cuts for fans of the Disney theme parks. Fans of Epcot at Walt Disney World will be pleased to hear some extremely nostalgic titles. This is a great addition to the parks. The blend of nostalgia and new is perfect.

New Details About Disney 100 Years of Wonder Revealed to Fans During D23 Expo

New and exciting details about Disney 100 Years of Wonder were revealed this past weekend to fans during D23 Expo 2022 presented by Visa ® . Disney100 will be the largest cross-company global celebration in the 100-year history of The Walt Disney Company, and it will officially kick-off during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest on ABC.

“Ten decades of creativity, innovation, and determination created The Walt Disney Company you know today—the most enduring and beloved name in entertainment,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek during the opening ceremonies of D23 Expo. “It’s an awesome responsibility to lead Disney as we begin our second century of telling stories and creating magic that will endure for another 100 years.”

Guests at the Ultimate Disney Fan Event were the first to see Mickey Mouse in his shimmering new “platinum” outfit, designed to reflect the optimism and creativity of Disney as the company celebrates 100 years and looks toward the next century. Throughout the weekend, fans heard about incredible new entertainment, experiences, and events coming from every corner of The Walt Disney Company for the celebration. From Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2023 release Wish and Disney100: The Exhibition, which will tour domestically and internationally beginning next year, to new spectaculars opening at Disneyland Resort, amazing collectible merchandise, and more, here’s a taste of what’s to come during Disney100:

The Walt Disney Studios

On Friday inside the 7,000-seat Hall D23, Jennifer Lee, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios announced Wish , an epic original animated musical inspired by the studios’ legacy of films and features all-new songs by Grammy ® -nominated artist Julia Michaels. The magical story, which looks ahead to the next 100 years for the studio and explores how the wishing star that so many Disney characters wished upon came to be, is set in Rosas, a fantasy kingdom where wishes literally can come true. Inspired by watercolor illustrations of fairytales that fascinated Walt Disney, the look of the film blends a timeless watercolor style with contemporary 3D CG animation. Attendees were introduced to 17-year-old Asha—a smart and driven optimist with a sharp wit whose impassioned plea to the stars calls down an actual star from the sky. Impossibly curious and a little ball of boundless energy, Star is a giant beacon for chaos. Filmmakers Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn and actor Alan Tudyk (the voice of Valentino the goat) joined Lee on stage before introducing the voice of Asha, recent Oscar ® winner Ariana DeBose, who brought down the house singing “More for Us,” an all-new original song from the film, which hits theaters in 2023.

Plus, the Walt Disney Studios presentation of upcoming theatrical and streaming titles on Friday previewed a trio of new films from Disney Live Action that continue Disney’s 100-year celebration. These new films include The Little Mermaid , a live-action reimagining of the studio’s Oscar-winning animated musical classic, which opens exclusively in theaters nationwide May 26, 2023; Haunted Mansion , a ghostly adventure inspired by the classic theme park attraction, which hits theaters in 2023; and Peter Pan & Wendy , a reimagining of the 1953 animated classic, which premieres on Disney+ in 2023.

Fans in Hall D23 were among the first to see a brand-new Walt Disney Studios logo introduction in honor of Disney 100 Years of Wonder. The new Disney castle introduction features Tinker Bell flying over a riverside village and up a waterfall that leads to the iconic Disney castle, now platinum. Created by Disney Studios Content and Industrial Light & Magic and featuring an all-new arrangement of “When You Wish Upon a Star” by award-winning composer Christophe Beck ( Frozen , WandaVision ), the new introduction will first appear in theaters with Disney’s Strange World this Thanksgiving and will then play in front of all Disney theatrical and streaming releases throughout 2023.

Disney100: The Exhibition

At D23 Expo, it was announced that Disney100: The Exhibition will open on February 18, 2023, at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Chicago, Illinois, and Kansas City, Missouri, set as the next two stops on the North American tour. The international unit of the exhibit will open on April 18 in Munich, Germany, with more cities to be announced in the coming months. The stunning key artwork for the exhibit was also revealed, which invites guests to step into their favorite stories using innovative and immersive technology throughout ten galleries in the 15,000-square-foot exhibit. The Walt Disney Archives is opening its vault of treasures, showcasing more than 250 of its “Crown Jewels,” rarely seen original artworks and artifacts, costumes and props, and other memorabilia. Disney has curated special behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creation of the company’s most popular characters, films, shows, and attractions—from Disneyland to Walt Disney World and beyond. The ten magnificent and imaginatively themed galleries, all featuring moving stories, unique interactive installations, and exciting background information, will take visitors on a journey through 100 years of The Walt Disney Company, celebrating the classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Strange World , as well as the latest members of the Disney family—Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic.

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts

Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro provided guests at D23 Expo a first look at how Disney Parks around the world will mark Disney100. New décor, specialty food and beverages, character experiences and more will come to parks around the world, with the heart of the celebration rooted at Disneyland Resort:

  • Two new nighttime spectaculars— World of Color – One and the new fireworks show Wondrous Journeys —will kick off in late January at Disneyland Resort.  World of Color – One at Disney California Adventure will span the broad storytelling legacy of Disney’s first 100 years and tell a new story through Disney classics and new favorites.  Wondrous Journeys at Disneyland Park will ignite the wonder in everyone and feature nods to all 60 Walt Disney Animation Studios films to date, taking viewers on a journey filled with artistry, music, storytelling, and heart. Special entertainment moments will also pop up across the resort, including the long-awaited return of the Magic Happens parade this spring.
  • A brand-new  nighttime spectacular will come to the World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT in late 2023   as part of the Disney100 celebration.
  • Hong Kong Disneyland will also unveil a new statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse  near Cinderella’s Golden Carousel as part of Disney 100 Years of Wonder.

Disney Consumer Products, Games and Publishing

As The Walt Disney Company celebrates its 100th anniversary, Disney Consumer Products, Games and Publishing has several exciting new merchandise collections and collaborations to commemorate Disney 100 Years of Wonder. The first of these collections include:

  • Disney100 Platinum Collection  – D23 Expo attendees got a special preview of Disney’s Platinum Collection, including the debut of the first Disney100 ear hat and headband. Platinum is a rare, precious metal known to withstand the test of time, just like beloved Disney characters. This Platinum Collection of Disney100 products captures the “classically Disney” look while paving the way forward into a new century. Additional details about this collection debuting on shopDisney—including the introduction of new products—will be revealed later this year.
  • Disney100 Decades Collection  – As part of the Disney100 Celebration, Disney is introducing the Disney Decades collection, a merchandise line that celebrates classic stories and eras from the company’s history. Debuting early next year on shopDisney with products centered around the 1920s and Steamboat Willie, this ongoing series will celebrate a different decade and the beloved stories from them including Snow White from the 1930s, Pinocchio from the 1940s, and more.
  • Disney100 Books from Disney Publishing: Fans looking to celebrate 100 years of Disney through its beloved tradition of storytelling can look forward to brand-new titles in 2023, including  Walt Disney: An American Original, Commemorative Edition ;  The Official Walt Disney Quote Book; The Story of Disney: 100 Years of Wonder , by John Baxter, Bruce C. Steele and the Staff of the Walt Disney Archives; and  People Behind the Disney Parks: Stories of Those Honored with a Window on Main Street, U.S.A.  by Chuck Snyder with original art by Josey Tsao.

A Company-Wide Celebration

In addition to the above, more incredible experiences, content, and opportunities await guests including:

  • Disney100.com : D23 Expo marked the debut of Disney100.com, a digital experience for all the magic in store for guests during the celebration. Right now, fans can get a sneak peek of the site, which will officially launch January 1, 2023.
  • ABC News Studios will present a once-in-a-lifetime documentary event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of one of the world’s most beloved companies. Disney: 100 Years of Wonder will take viewers on a journey that started in 1923 and whose future is not yet written. Deciding that a linear chronological retelling beginning in 1923 was inadequate to truly capture the essence of the magic of The Walt Disney Company, the project will tell the story from the lens of the core values and philosophies of the company, which have acted as a guided path through our ever-changing world.
  • Disney Music Group and Deutsche Grammophon will release Lang Lang: The Disney Book  on Septembers 16, 2022 celebrating 100 years of Disney with iconic melodies reimagined for the piano.
  • In 2023, Disney Music Group will release a vinyl compilation highlighting the Company’s musical moments across film, television and the Parks.
  • And much, much more to be announced in the coming weeks and months, including —content that will span the company’s portfolio of must-watch linear television channels, including ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic, as well as the ABC owned-stations—and streaming platforms—Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+

Star Tours at Disneyland and Disney World to Add ‘Mandalorian,’ ‘Andor’ and ‘Ahsoka’ Plots

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

A handful of Disney+ series are about to be added to one of the most well-known rides at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

“Star Tours — The Adventures Continue,” the Star Wars themed ride with locations in Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris, will add characters and locations from the Disney+ shows The Mandalorian , Ahsoka and Andor , beginning April 5.

That will include “urgent transmissions” from characters like Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor ,  Din Djarin and Grogu during the ride, with the planet Peridea from Ahsoka also joining the ride.

The original Star Tours opened in 1987 at Disneyland and two years later at Disney World, transporting guests into the world of the Star Wars films. A new version of the ride, The Adventures Continue opened in 2011, adding scenes and characters from the newer Star Wars films.

The premise sees droids C-3PO and R2-D2 guiding visitors on a ride through the Star Wars universe aboard a spaceship. There are different openings, destinations, messages from Star Wars characters and endings, all randomly appearing in the ride, with a Disney post unveiled the changes declaring that there will be more than 250 variations for riders to experience.

Star Wars has been a source of major investment at Disney’s theme parks, even as Lucasfilm has gone years without a new film. There are now Star Wars lands in both Disneyland and Disney World, and there was, briefly, a Star Wars -themed hotel called the Galactic Starcruiser, which Disney shut down last year after being open for less than two years.

But the addition of characters and locations from the Disney+ Star Wars shows also suggest that the expanded universe from the franchise will be brought into the larger theme park fold.

250 New Attractions Confirmed for Disney After ‘Star Wars’ Removal

in Disney Parks , Star Wars

Storm Troopers at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland

Today, we heard some big news when it comes to the future of Star Wars at the Disney parks.

Star Tours.

At many of the Disney parks around the world, guests can blast off to a galaxy far, far away through Star Tours. Right now, the attraction is located in Walt Disney World (Disney’s Hollywood Studios), Disneyland (Disneyland Park), Disneyland Paris (Disneyland Paris Park), and Tokyo Disneyland.

As we shared earlier today, a new version of the attraction will be debuting on April 5.

As noted by Disney , “Hold on tight as urgent transmissions from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor, the Mandalorian and Grogu may soon be part of your next Starspeeder flight.

Starting April 5, 2024, embark on exciting new Star Wars adventures featuring characters and locations from some of your favorite Disney+ series. With these additions, you’ll have the opportunity to experience one of more than 250 storyline variations, including a visit to the planet Peridea from Ahsoka . Because the many story twists are random, you never know where you’ll go or who you may encounter along the way!”

The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu in the N1 Starfighter in 'The Mandalorian'

While many have been excited for the news of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka joining in on the Star Tours fun, one detail has been missed by many, which is the highlight that the ride will have 250 storyline variations, meaning 250 new versions of the ride, making it the most re-rideable attraction at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and beyond!

Knowing that a guest can ride Star Tours 249 times and still have the chance to get a new look at the ride on ride 250 is a very exciting aspect of this new upgrade that Star Wars fans will certainly love — especially when the ride is at a low wait.

Star Tours emerged from a partnership between Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas’s Lucasfilm, debuting at Disneyland Park on January 9, 1987. It represented a significant advancement in theme park technology, blending state-of-the-art innovation with Disney’s signature immersive storytelling.

Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano in 'Ahsoka'

Inspiration for Star Tours sprang from the fruitful collaboration between Disney and Lucasfilm within the Star Wars universe. Imagineers at Disney sought to craft an attraction that would immerse visitors in the thrills and wonders of Star Wars , allowing them to embark on their own space-faring adventures. With George Lucas’s enthusiastic support, the concept took shape, culminating in a groundbreaking attraction that captured the essence of the beloved sci-fi franchise.

Star Tours takes guests on a thrilling journey through space aboard a fictional starship known as a Starspeeder 1000. The attraction uses a sophisticated motion simulator system to simulate the sensation of flying through space, complete with twists, turns, and exhilarating encounters with iconic Star Wars characters and locations.

The original version of Star Tours featured a single-ride experience called the “Original Trilogy” tour, which took guests on a voyage to various planets from the original Star Wars trilogy.

star tours

The attraction’s success led to the development of additional versions and updates over the years, including new destinations, characters, and storylines inspired by the Star Wars prequel and sequel trilogies, meaning guests can see a whole range of characters on Star Tours, from Darth Vader to Rey Skywalker.

In 2011, Disney introduced Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, an updated version of the attraction featuring 3D imagery and randomized ride sequences, offering guests a different experience with each ride.

Now, Star Tours lives in a theme park with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World and Disneyland; however, Disneyland Paris is quite different. At Disneyland Paris, the ride is in Discoveryland, which is equivalent to the Tomorrowland of Magic Kingdom , here you can find Hyper Space Mountain and more, but the park does not have a dedicated Star Wars land.

Guests ride Star Tours over snow

Its neighboring park, Walt Disney Studios Park, was meant to have its very own Star Wars expansion, however, that upgrade was cut from the mega $2 billion budget that Bob Iger allocated to the European park before the pandemic. Instead, the money went to the refurbishment of The Disneyland Hotel, the Frozen land, which was planned, but cut out the Toy Story Playland and Star Wars expansions — even though the concept art on the construction walls in the park are still promoting it.

While a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge may be in the far far future of Disneyland Paris, at least this new Star Tours change will expand the Star War s storytelling within the theme park.

Are you excited to see this new version of Star Tours at the Disney parks?

Ahsoka, Star Wars: Andor, and The Mandalorian to Be Added to Star Tours at Disney Parks

Star tours will soon feature over 250 storyline variations, including a visit to peridea..

Adam Bankhurst Avatar

Disney Parks has announced that characters and locations from Ahsoka, Star Wars: Andor, and The Mandalorian will be added to Star Tours on April 5, 2024, at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris.

While not everything was revealed, Disney Parks Blog confirmed that "urgent transmissions" from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor, Din Djarin, and Grogu may be part of your next Starspeeder flight on Star Tours.

This week, we jump in our Starspeeder for new adventures coming to Star Tours - The Adventure Continues. pic.twitter.com/iutXKd5E2H — Star Wars (@starwars) March 5, 2024

Furthermore, a teaser of the planet Peridea as it appeared in Ahsoka was shared that features Ahsoka's T-6 Jedi Shuttle under attack and flying between a pack of wonderful Purrgil. You know, the space whales that were key to the galaxy unlocking hyperspace travel!

With these new additions, there will now be over 250 storyline variations aboard Star Tours. This is also the first new addition to the attraction since Kef Bir was added alongside the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Disney also discussed that Season of the Force will arrive at Disneyland from April 5 - June 2 and will bring with it the return of Hyperspace Mountain, themed food and beverage, merchandise, and a "fresh perspective on the fireworks above Disneyland park on select nights, with galactic music sweeping through the spires."

‘Star Tours' at Disneyland will roam a new world; Hyperspace Mountain will return, too

Disneyland resort also revealed details about the return of "season of the force" later this spring., by alysia gray painter • published march 5, 2024 • updated on march 5, 2024 at 12:58 pm, what to know.

  • Star Tours — The Adventures Continue is located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park in Anaheim
  • The attraction will feature new experiences inspired by recent Disney+ series; look for "The Mandalorian," "Ahsoka," and "Andor" to be featured starting April 5
  • "Season of the Force" returns on April 5 as well; Space Mountain will transform into Hyperspace Mountain through June 2

Galactic goings-on are always in motion, whatever the time of year and whatever the season here on Earth.

Stars are forming, asteroids are asteroiding, and the various dynamic bits and bobs of the universe are shining, bursting, swirling, ending, and doing all of the things that cosmic components have always dramatically done.

But here on our planet, specifically around the city of Anaheim in the county of Orange? We'll want to keep a keener eye on the earthly calendar, specifically springtime, specifically most of April, all of May, and a little of June.

Get Southern California news, weather forecasts and entertainment stories to your inbox. Sign up for NBC LA newsletters.

For that's when "Season of the Force" will return to Disneyland Park, all to give fans of the theme park, which is known for several stellar "Star Wars" attractions, events, and offerings, even more to Chewbacca, er, chew on.

It's an annual happening that always rockets back to Disneyland in time for May 4, May the Fourth, or May the Force Be With You Day, also known around the world as Star Wars Day.

But that merry "May the Fourth" energy extends beyond May 4 nowadays, at least around The Hyperspace-iest Place on Earth; you can enjoy several "Star Wars"-inspired sights and sounds from April 5 through June 2, 2024.

This includes the new planetary adventures set to debut at Star Tours — The Adventures Continue, a beloved ride that will visit a previously unseen world, at least a world new to the Tomorrowland attraction.

"With these additions, guests will have the opportunity to experience one of more than 250 storyline variations aboard the attraction, including a visit to the planet Peridea from the 'Ahsoka' series," shares the Disneyland team.

"During their Starspeeder flight, guests may receive urgent transmissions from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor, or Din Djarin and Grogu."

Just beyond Star Tours is, of course, Space Mountain, which will again transform into "Hyperspace Mountain" during "Season of the Force," complete with "Star Wars"-details, images, and audio.

And over at Galaxy's Edge, which is just a short time-hop/space-skip away from the otherworldly attractions of Tomorrowland?

Look for a "fresh perspective" on the nightly fireworks show, an illuminated experience that includes thrilling tunes and lights dancing along the land's dramatic spires.

Treats that take their tasty theming from the "Star Wars"-verse are also part of the "Force"-centered festivities, as is new merchandise.

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is the most similar to the original Disneyland. You’ll find familiar attractions, the castle, and Mainstreet, but also a few lands and attractions that are unique to Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom is 106 acres.

You will still start on Mainstreet, and the lands are arranged in the same “hub and spoke pattern” as Disneyland.

The lands in Magic Kingdom are:

  • Adventure Land – like California, you can ride the Jungle Cruise here, but you can also ride Pirates of the Caribbean and Alladin’s magic carpet ride here.
  • Frontier Land – Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and themed western shops are here, and you can still attend the Country Bears Jamboree!
  • Liberty Square – this land isn’t in California and is unique to Magic Kingdom. All things patriotic can be found here including the liberty bell and the hall of Presidents. Here is where you will find the Magic Kingdom version of the Haunted Mansion, which is a bit different than the Disneyland ride.
  • Fantasy Land – The heart of Disney magic, you can ride Peter Pan, it’s a small world and so much more in fantasy land.
  • Tomorrow Land – Experience space travel with Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, and the people mover.

The centerpiece of the festival are the 10 marketplace booths offering 12 new food items during this year’s event. DCA eateries and food stands as well Downtown Disney restaurants also serve festival fare.

Disney trimmed three marketplace booths from the festival this year (Berry Patch, I Heart Artichokes and Avocado Time) while adding a new booth focused on plant-based meat (Earth Eats).

A Sip and Savor card that can be used at food and beverage stands throughout the festival costs $61 for 8 items with a $5 discount for Magic Key annual passholders. This year there is also a $31 Sip & Savor pass good for 4 items with no passholder discount.

ALSO SEE: All you can eat and drink at the 2024 Knott’s Boysenberry Festival — See the list

You don’t have to buy your food at the booth where it’s served. The best bet is to figure out everything you want to eat and order it all at once from the register stand with the shortest line. Then you can pick up your food whenever you want.

The Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo booth had the shortest line with the most open cashiers on opening day — in part because it was furthest from the front entrance and had the least festival traffic.

I was thrilled to see Disney replaced the tear off tabs with a QR code on the Sip & Savor Card. I was disappointed to see the marketplace booth names dropped from the receipt you need to hang onto to redeem all your purchased food items. The numbers are listed in the Tasting Passport but not on the booths, making it harder to know where to go to get each item.

I tried all 12 new foods on the menus of the festival marketplace booths and here’s what I liked from best to worst at DCA’s 2024 Food & Wine Festival.

1) S’mores Caramel Tart

California Craft Brews

The S’mores Tart was my most anticipated new item at the Food & Wine Festival and it didn’t disappoint.

Disneyland does sugar better than anybody. I was sold just looking at the delicate graham cracker tart shell filled to the brim with chocolatey ganache deliciousness.

Make sure you dig deep with every bite so you get all of the caramel gooeyness at the bottom of the tart.

The toasted marshmallow on top stuck to everything — my fork, my lips and the roof of my mouth. I was in culinary heaven.

2) BBQ Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese

Nuts About Cheese

The Food & Wine Festival always does two or three Mac & Cheese dishes and this year’s new entry ranks up there as one of my all-time favorites.

Mac & Cheese is one of my five basic food groups — so this is what I’d order at the festival if I wanted a go-to favorite.

The sweet BBQ sauce and the crispy dill pickle onions were the best parts of a truly great Mac & Cheese dish.

Disney tends to keep the festival booth foods at a sample size in order to encourage grazing and roaming while you eat.

The BBQ Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese isn’t quite entre sized, but you get more for your buck with this dish than anything else at the marketplace booths.

3) Cheeseburger Bao

The Cheeseburger Bao was the surprise hit of the 2024 Disney Food & Wine Fest.

Imagine if In-N-Out served a bao burger and you get the idea of what Disney’s chefs were going for with this off-beat winning combo.

It delivers everything you’re hoping for in a festival food: An unexpected mash-up of cultures that tastes great while still staying true to its origins.

The grilled onions, diced pickles and tomato relish sprinkled atop the bao along with the Thousand Island dressing really helped sell the cheeseburger concept.

The dish looked 100% like a bao bun from the outside until you took a bite. The soft boa bun didn’t have a ton of taste and as a result there wasn’t much in the way of Asian flavors.

Carnitas-style Pork Belly with esquites corn mac salad featuring Tajín® habanero available at LA Style during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival in Anaheim, CA, on Friday, March 1, 2024. (Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG)

4) Carnitas-style Pork Belly

I had high expectations for this one and this year’s pork belly dish didn’t let me down.

Disney chefs have the savory and slightly greasy pork belly dialed in and the question is what they will pair it with each year.

The Mexican street corn macaroni salad had a little kick thanks to a dusting of Tajin Habanero.

The Mac Salad would have been great as a separate dish. I hope Disney’s culinary team finds a way to bring back the Tajin Mac Salad in different presentations in years to come.

5) Cheese Pizza-flavored Wings

Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo

The Pizza Wings had a nice level of heat — what I like to call “Theme Park Spice.” Just hot enough to notice, but not too much to offend anyone.

The pizza flavor was really pronounced and a perfect pairing — like you went to a pizza and wings shop and the cook got creative in the kitchen.

The wings came with ranch dip, but I didn’t bother with it too much. The wings tasted great without the dip, which I only needed if I had wanted to cool down the spice. That definitely wasn’t the case here.

Wings are standard fare at the Food & Wine Fest. I’d get these again.

6) Impossible Beef Stroganoff

I have a bad attitude about fake meat. I figure if you want meat flavor, then eat meat. If you’re vegan or a vegetarian, eat vegetables.

So I’m always pleased when Disney creates a winning dish using Impossible meat that doesn’t leave me wondering what that flavor is in my mouth that most certainly is not beef, chicken or seafood.

The Impossible Beef Stroganoff takes the crown this year as the best plant-based dish at all the festival marketplace booths.

The Impossible beef tossed with egg noodles, mushroom cream sauce and sour cream doesn’t leave you with any of those mystery meat worries or wonders.

It just tastes good — and that’s all that matters whether you’re a pescatarian, flexitarian or carnivore.

7) Shrimp Papas Locas

Peppers Cali-Ente

The Papas Locas was a tasty, cheesy, messy combo with a little kick from the jalapeno sauce and the chipotle on the shrimp.

The biggest disappointment was the skimpy amount of shrimp in the dish.

The whole thing was slathered atop a base of cheddar-bacon potatoes.

There was a lot going on with the Papas Locas that reminded me of sloppy potato nachos.

(Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG)

8) Olive Oil Cake

This beautiful little cake was moist and fluffy with a zesty lemon flavor.

The refined bite-sized dessert was glazed with lemon curd, topped with vanilla bean Chantilly and finished with fresh candied lemons, strawberry crunch and lemon-lime gelee.

The olive oil in the name refers to the preparation rather than the taste.

The cake would go perfectly with an ice cold rink on a warm spring day.

9) Frozen Old Fashioned

Golden Dreams

I almost didn’t order the Frozen Old Fashioned because I thought it was a nonalcoholic drink. It would take another entire review to taste test all the drinks at the festival.

The bourbon-flavored ice cream bar didn’t taste much like bourbon or an Old Fashioned cocktail, but it was still cool, delicious and fun.

The best part of the experience was all the bitters crema, orange zest glaze and boba-like cherry spheres layered on top of the ice cream.

There was a stick in the ice cream bar, but there’s very little chance anybody could enjoy it as a hand-held dessert — unless they wanted the ice cream streaming down their arm.

You’ll have to eat it fast or else you’ll need a straw to slurp up this novel take on the classic cocktail.

I’m not sure I would order the Frozen Old Fashioned again, but I would certainly recommend it to others.

Raspberry Almond Cake; almond cake with raspberry mousse and fresh raspberries available at Uncork California during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival in Anaheim, CA, on Friday, March 1, 2024. (Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG)

10) Raspberry Almond Cake

Uncork California

The dense almond cake had plenty of raspberry flavor thanks to the raspberry mousse and fresh berries, but it was my least favorite dessert in the festival marketplace booths.

If you like your desserts on the moist and not-too-sweet side, then the Raspberry Almond Cake might be for you.

This just wasn’t what I was looking for.

Impossible Chicken Parm Bites with tomato and cheese sauces and grated parmesan available at Earth Eats during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival in Anaheim, CA, on Friday, March 1, 2024. (Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG)

11) Impossible Chicken Parm Bites

If you’ve eaten chicken all your life, then the chicken nuggets in the Impossible Chicken Parm Bites will taste like overcooked cafeteria leftovers.

If you don’t eat meat, then this fake chicken will taste great because you don’t know what you’re missing.

The tomato and cheese sauces with grated parmesan tasted like cheese pizza to me.

The real problem here were the bites, which looked like they were stamped out of a machine.

We eat with our eyes before we eat with our mouths — and these nuggets looked like they came out of a bag at the back of the freezer.

How hard would it be for Impossible to make chicken nuggets that looked like they came from real chunks of chicken?

Baja-style Fish Taco with cabbage slaw, cilanto-lime crema and pico available at LA Style during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival in Anaheim, CA, on Friday, March 1, 2024. (Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG)

12) Baja-style Fish Taco

The audience for this plant-based taco is clearly vegans and vegetarians — and they will likely be thrilled to find another dish on the menu made for them.

The problem is the Tasting Passport booklet refers to the item as a Baja-style Fish Taco with a little tiny leaf after the name. You wouldn’t know the “fish” was plant-based unless you looked at the key at the bottom of the page.

That makes a big difference here because the “fish” is soy and chickpeas. The only way to know that is to ask at the booth. But most people are not going to ask if the fish taco really has fish in it.

What you’re eating here is basically a cabbage slaw salad with cilantro-lime crema and pico de gallo wrapped in a tortilla. The salad is tangy and refreshing and would go great with a lager or pilsner from the California Craft Beer booth.

There’s not much of that chickpea fish substitute — and when you eventually find it, it doesn’t taste or look much like fish.
