Vessel Type: Small Ship

Length: 174 ft

Passenger Capacity: 64

Built / refurbished: 1982 / 2016

Undergoing refurbishment in 2016, the 62-guest Safari Voyager offers personal comforts, full uncompromising amenities, and upscale accommodations. Sights are revealed from the window-lined lounge with sweeping 270-degree views. Enjoy the vessel’s cozy library and elegant dining room, all outfitted with nautical décor. Ideally designed to spotlight the magnificent natural surroundings, the Safari Voyager features four public decks including a spacious upper sun deck.

An aft EZ Dock launch platform provides convenient access into and from the water for adventure activities. The vessel is outfitted with kayaks, paddle boards, inflatable skiffs, snorkel gear, wet suits, and hiking poles. For rejuvenation and relaxation, guests can take advantage of our wellness program with fitness equipment, yoga mats, and a complimentary massage.

Safari Voyager

Sailing for UnCruise Adventures

The 66-passenger Safari Voyager boasts spacious decks and big view windows in the lounge that spotlight the natural surroundings, a casual atmosphere, colorful art, nautical décor, and full menu of amenities.

Discreet, classy, and stealth, the Safari Voyager is comfortable in warm water regions and built to handle humidity and heat. Tropical adventure, wilderness access, and the natural landscape are always at the forefront.

A seamless extension of the places she sails, the ship, and her mostly local crew exude pura vida (pure life). Handcrafted artwork throughout the vessel and in each cabin pays homage to the cultures of Latin America.

Casual in nature, the Safari Voyager is a bit of a show-off, too—take in 270-degrees of view from the top deck or window-to-window in the air-conditioned lounge.

Adventure seekers will find a nice selection of exploration tools to select from. An EZ Dock kayak launch platform aids in launching kayaks, paddleboards and inflatable skiffs from the ship. A bow-mounted underwater camera, hiking poles, snorkel gear complete the picture.

Safari Voyager

This laid-back, 62-guest ship from  UnCruise Adventures  focuses more on nature than almost anyone else at sea. A typical day during a Northern Gulf of California Adventure in Baja, Mexico consists of kayaking or paddle boarding off the back of the ship, or taking an inflatable skiff out to watch for wildlife while onboard experts weigh in. And even though the emphasis here is on the nature and not onboard entertainment, you might find yourself lounging on the sun deck, cozying up in the library, or grabbing a drink at the bar. Best of all, these spaces look newly refreshed as the ship was almost entirely rebuilt in 2016.

All-Inclusive Excursions: There is no extra charge for any of the excursions on offer, from kayaking to hiking to snorkeling, so you can do as many as you like without incurring extra fees.

Active Adventures:  Safari Voyager's fleet of inflatable skiffs take passengers ashore on exploratory excursions, whether that means scanning the water’s edge for Great Blue Herons or trekking to a turtle sanctuary. You can also kayak, paddle board, or snorkel right off the ship's platform on the stern, which is specially designed so you don’t need to climb up and down ladders to reach it.

Knowledgeable Guides: Experts in everything from marine life to birds make up the expedition crew. Their lectures and insider knowledge make exploring new destinations a joy as much as a discovery.

Repeat Guests: There is a fierce loyalty to the UnCruise brand among passengers, many of who seem to be going down the list of every destination on offer to soak up the line's signature nature-rich itineraries. More often than not, some passengers will recognize fellow guests and employees from former trips.

Intellectually Curious Types:  As a small and nimble vessel,  Safari Voyager  embraces the spirit of adventure, escorting guests beyond the "been there, done that" ports and cultivating an onboard atmosphere that's social and convivial. This ship tends to attract like-minded guests who are fascinated with nature and the environment and are seeking to engage in these topics in out-of-the-box ways.

Outdoor Lovers: Anyone who revels in hiking, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking will love this cruise.

Laid-Back Travelers: For those who think wearing a tie or a pair of heels to dinner is torture, the casual nature of this cruise will be a welcome relief. T-shirts and shorts are perfectly fine whenever and wherever (including at meals), and because changes occur when high tides or bad weather roll around, being flexible is a key attribute.

Few-Frills Standard Cabins:  Standard staterooms are small and comfortable, but on the basic side. There are TVs which can play DVDs (which you can borrow from the lounge) as well as iPod docking stations in every cabin. Some guests might find the layout — the sink is in the main cabin, not in the bathroom — annoying. Limited drawer space should also be considered when packing.

Not for Passengers with Disabilities:  With no onboard elevator and plenty of staircases to climb, plus excursions that require getting out and about, passengers should have few mobility restrictions. Note that skiffs are the primary method of transportation between ship and shore, which means extra effort is involved when boarding and disembarking — and landings can sometimes be wet.

Don’t Expect to Sleep In: You may find sloths in the jungle, but there is little time to act like one on board. Your day is strictly regimented: breakfast starts at 7:30 am, lunch at 12:30 pm, and activities are packed in between. Once you're back on board after the day's adventures, you’ll have time for a shower — then it’s straight to dinner before another full day of exploring.

Hear It from Travelers Who Have Explored with Us

This was an awesome adventure. The ship, the expedition team, the staff were all first class. The scenery was incredible and the daily activities and explorations brought us up close and personal to things most people only read about or view in videos and pictures.

This is only the second time that I have not planned and organized a vacation and yet this is the ONLY time that every single aspect of our trip was outstanding. Doing a small boat cruise and with only 8 passengers; we all became like family and are all still in contact with one another.

The arrangements were perfect. Not a glitch in the entire nearly two weeks. I am just very happy to have found AdventureSmith.

We enjoy adventure travel and wildlife. The Galapagos Islands combined these two and are not like anywhere else in the world. It was a magical trip!

One of the best trips I have ever taken. You are only going to Antarctica once most likely, so you want to get it right. I felt like we really did and that was made possible by excellent guidance from Nick and excellent service from all involved on our travels. Accommodations Review

The vessel "World Explorer" was an unbelievable ship. It felt like a high end hotel and the service staff made sure everything was "just right".

Meals Review

I am a picky eater so if I didn't like the menu for the day there were plenty of standard choices available. I think I gained a few pounds on the trip.

Itinerary Review

[We most enjoyed]...the education along the way presented by experts, the zodiac landings and other extracurricular activities such as kayaking. All went well and were things I never thought I would experience. I felt very safe and in good hands with a very professional and experienced expedition team.

Crew & Guides Review

This was one aspect that made the trip such a great adventure. The expedition team and ship crew were clearly qualified, competent and had a passion for this type of exploration.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Our representative, Justin Massoni, did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed to prepare for the trip. There were no surprises or disappointments. Everything worked out perfectly.

This is only the second time that I have not planned and organized a vacation and yet this is the ONLY time that every single aspect of our trip was outstanding.  Every transfer and stay was flawless except one mix-up on one end and all it took was one phone call and that was solved - so really to us that didn't count.  It was one of our best vacations ever, not only because of the destination but also because we didn't have to worry about connections and specifics. The Amazon on the Delfin I was the best ever.  Doing a small boat cruise and with only 8 passengers; we all became like family and are all still in contact with one another.

The food on the Delfin I was 5 star all the way.  They even prepared our piranha that we caught and it was delicious!

Every transfer, driver and guide was professional, reliable and couldn't have been better.  Each became a friend and were flexible enough to accommodate our desires during the day.  Couldn't say enough about all of these.

Our AdventureSmith Specialist was available always by email, phone to answer questions and the suggested packing lists were extremely helpful and really we had 3 different climates to pack for; coastal/urban in Lima, tropical jungle in Iquitos and cooler highlands in Cusco and we found that we had packed well thanks to the advice of AdventureSmith.

All the arrangements were effected without a hitch. Drivers and guides met us at the airports and hotels. They were never late - in fact, they often came early. The expedition on La Pinta was just right for us - the itinerary, boat size, and amenities were perfect. Lastly, the trip to Cuenca was interesting and we very much enjoyed the architecture, restaurants, scenery, and the nearby gem of a national park.

The trip was all about the Galapagos Islands, and they did not disappoint. Seeing how treating animals with respect results in a very peaceful coexistence was eye-opening. I came away with some amazing pictures and experiences, including swimming with playful sea lions and stepping around iguanas and tortoises. That said, Cuenca was wonderful. We may very likely go back there after I retire to spend the winter months at least one year. What a beautiful city!

Quito is a big city and not particularly attractive. Our tour guide was good, but that did not change the fact that it was not somewhere we would want to spend a lot of time. We were told not to go out at night (though one restaurant had a free car service and it was worth the trip), versus in Cuenca where we went to a great restaurant about fifteen minutes from our hotel and walked back along the city streets after dark with no concern. There are some areas to avoid, but generally it seems to be a very safe city that also boasts clean tap water (though a several day acclimation period is recommended).

The hotels in Quito and Cuenca were very nice - particularly the one in Cuenca, which like many hotels there is a converted home of some wealthy resident. The accommodations on La Pinta were roomier than I had expected, with a large bed, big window and a bathroom with excellent water pressure and plentiful hot water. The boat, with 41 tourists on board, was just the right size.

The meals we had on our own on the mainland were good, particularly the breakfasts in Quito. On the boat, we enjoyed the meals very much, though breakfast and lunch buffets were clearly the highlight and the sit-down dinners were less impressive. We also had salmon our first night on the boat that could have been fresher. However, the lunches more than made up for the minor glitches.

All of our guides/naturalists on La Pinta were good. They were very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. In Quito, we had a good guide, notwithstanding she had a limited palette of locations to work with. Our guide in Cuenca was excellent too. All guides and naturalists were very proficient in English, though when we were off the boat, we tried speaking Spanish as often as we could.

The arrangements were perfect. Not a glitch in the entire nearly two weeks. I was so pleased that drivers and guides were always there when they were supposed to be there and made us feel like we were in good hands.

Andrew was great. That's why I'm planning a trip to Peru through him. Information was provided in a very clear and relatively concise manner. We kept the trip instructions close at hand, particularly when on the mainland. The only thing I did on my own without instructions to prepare for the trip was to visit the Mayo Clinic's travel clinic, where they made sure certain vaccinations were up to date and prescribed Diamox for altitude sickness in case I had an issue, as well as something for stomach upset (which was really not an issue).

I am just very happy to have found AdventureSmith. The agency and agent, Andrew, were recommended by friends of ours who were on the same boat as we were some years ago. I am looking forward to working with Andrew and AdventureSmith again when my younger daughter and I travel to Machu Picchu. I have already mentioned AdventureSmith to several people.

Just that they should do their homework to get the most out of the trip, bring the proper clothes (we traveled very light but were just fine), and check in with a doctor to make sure you don't spend days dealing with altitude sickness or have some other issue (after visiting the doctor, we bought DEET mosquito repellent which was not necessary all that often, but we are glad we did). I took Diamox and my wife (who did not take any meds) had just one day on arrival in Quito when she had a splitting headache, but then we both hiked for a couple hours at nearly 13,000 feet and we were both fine. I will definitely make sure my daughter and I have Diamox before we land in Cusco.

We enjoy adventure travel and wildlife. The Galapagos Islands combined these two and are not like anywhere else in the world. It was a magical trip!

The room and boat were even better than we thought they'd be. The rooms were comfortable and spacious - the balconies were amazing. It was definitely the best looking boat we saw in our travels. It was worth what we paid for it. A small boat is a must and the Elite was excellent.

All the meals were excellent and the service was exceptional.

Overall this was the trip of a lifetime and we wouldn't change anything about it. We participated in all the activities that were offered and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. We were able to experience everything we'd hoped for.

Transportation Review

Being in a foreign airport can be difficult, but the arrangements made for this trip were great. When we were leaving Quito, we were greeted by one of your representatives as soon as we walked in the door of the airport. He guided us through until we got to security. A guide met us when we landed and was with us until we boarded our boat. When we were leaving, another guide was at the airport with our boarding passes, so that leg of the trip was seamless also.

We had two guides on our two combined trips - Carlos and Enrique. They were both very knowledgeable and excited about all that we saw, even though they've probably seen everything before. They were both very professional but very approachable and friendly.

Please note: The primary ship(s) operating the mentioned itinerary can change from year to year, so the ship this guest cruised on may no longer be sailing this exact route.

The arrangements from start to finish were seamless. The staff for the pre-cruise tours as well as on the ship were simply fantastic. Great group of travelers on the ship - we enjoyed the adventurous spirit of all on board. One of the best trips I have ever taken. You are only going to Antarctica once most likely, so you want to get it right. I felt like we really did and that was made possible by excellent guidance from Nick and excellent service from all involved on our travels. We were told National Geographic was second to none in terms of naturalist and that was very true. Not only did we see the landscape and animals but we learned about them - and from people who love them and are experts in their field. That added a richness not possible otherwise.

The Mandarin hotel prior and the National Geographic Orion were exactly as I expected and met all our needs.

The meals on the ship were consistently incredible. The variety of fresh foods and beautiful presentation never got boring.

The pre-tour guide and driver were outstanding. Our guide went above and beyond to make our experience a good one and to give us insight into his country in addition to seeing 'the sights' - it was a true cultural experience which I wanted and appreciated. The National Geographic crew from top to bottom were fantastic.

Antarctica was simply amazing. Nothing can compare and you simply have to see it to believe it. We also enjoyed our day trip to Valpairaiso. The day trip and the drive over with a stop at a local winery gave us a good flavor for the region as well as a day to adjust and get ready for the next leg of the journey.

Nick helped us for more than a year to secure the trip, work on pre-tours and help with all preparations and questions - which were many. He was also professional and responsive and educational in preparing us for the trip. Just what I wanted from a travel agency. Expert advice from people who have been there and can match your wishes and travel style to the right fit for you.

Plan far ahead and research what the actual trip experience will be like. Find the fit that best suits your personality and travel style. Be flexible. The only challenge was a very late night flight out of Santiago to Dallas. The downtime on that final day proved to longer than I would have liked. I would recommend to future travelers that they spend the night in Santiago, taking a morning flight out the following day in order to ensure a less exhaustive end to the trip. Santiago city center is worth seeing but not particularly engaging - at least at the moment. The protests have very much disrupted the flow for tourists and the effects on the city with graffiti and boarded up sites around the city are painful to see.

This was the most organized, well-planned trip ever!! Every single detail, right down to clothes to bring, was superb. When we arrived at Denali, the North Face Lodge folks knew who we were and where we were going to stay with our room assignment.

We most enjoyed the lodge's sense of community. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, even on the hikes. The hikes were tremendous! UnCruise was exceptional! They slowed down, pulled over, and even stopped the engines to get as close to wildlife as possible. The weather was so good that we went into harbors and inlets they hadn't gotten to go to all summer.

Anchorage was beautiful and we enjoyed our extra day there, biking the trail and going to the museum. We had great companions on each trip, but there were many Australians having the best time of their lives on the cruise. They really know how to party!! Juneau is very much a tourist trap but we still enjoyed fighting the big ship people and looking around. We also liked Mendenhall Glacier and getting close to the waterfalls there.

We did not want a vacation of just sitting around watching the world go by (although there is a time for that as well!) but rather we wanted to be active to the extent that we could. At Denali and on the cruise we could choose what activity fit our level, and it turned out perfect. This trip fit our wishes of wilderness, wildlife, and adventure to a T!!

Superb! Top-notch cleaning of our rooms.

Every meal at North Face was outstanding! Much of it was grown on-site and was fixed and presented beautifully. They even picked wild blueberries and made blueberry tarts!!

The cruise meals were good as well, but you can't get that fresh quality on a boat like you can on land. They were very timely served and hot things were hot and cold things were cold. I was full every day!

I cannot remember our moderate hike guides' names at North Face Lodge, but both were excellent and very knowledgeable! John made a most superb leader, along with Andi, and were gentle with their bell before announcements.

Katie, Dani, Sarah, really all the crew on board the Wilderness Adventurer were beyond great. They were also knowledgeable and helpful. They were highly trained and had kind, fun-loving spirits.

Most excellent! We were well prepared for this trip, right down to the rubber boots, which we really didn't need on the boat because they had plenty of all sizes. But our boots came in handy for the rest of the trip. Shuttles, buses, flights, trains, really every mode of transportation was on time and had friendly drivers.

I can't thank you enough for the best vacation I have ever had. When I had questions, you either called me or emailed me in a timely manner, which alleviated any concerns I had.

I know at least three people who want to "pick my brain" about this trip, and you will be highly recommended.

Go for it!  Its worth every penny, and you won't regret it.

Choices that led to taking a barge cruise on a canal in open country reflect interests of others with similar tastes and broad experience. Small Ship Safari Explorer

Safari Explorer is designed for upscale comfort in the pursuit of adventure.

This high-end SUV of a yacht is nimble, strong, and loving. The Safari Explorer has what mariners call “feet” that take her into wild areas big ships can’t visit. Her performance-built rugged construction means access to faraway regions. But it’s what’s on the inside that makes this vessel the prize of the fleet. And with only 36 guests on board, the feel is decidedly exclusive.   Lovingly called “the Bulldog,” she’s poised, her interior is a pearl, and the general mood is down-to-earth. In the winter, she bops around the islands of Hawaii soaking up the laid-back aloha spirit—weaving through the islands, ready for bow-riding dolphins. In the summer, she follows the Humpbacks north to Alaska, navigating the inside passage and taking in The Great Land. A protective spirit is infused in every part of the ship, and within the crew. She’s made for adventures after all and with them comes inevitable fun and folly.

Onboard Features: Full-beam swim step; kayaks, paddleboards, inflatable skiffs, hiking poles, snorkel gear; on-deck hot tub (not available in Hawaii); fitness equipment and yoga mats; DVD and book library; wine library.
