Many people contact us and and say they would like to come to the Pantanal and would really like to see a Jaguar.  Let´s be clear: A Jaguar is an apex level predator.  In nature, even in the Pantanal, they are naturally quite rare.  Each has a territorial range of over 50 kilometers squared.  The chances of seeing a Jaguar on a general interest tour are slim.  As the name suggests, this tour focuses primarily on the Jaguar, but also the endangered Giant River Otter is almost always seen.  We do our best to keep our prices reasonable; however, keep in mind that Pantanal Jaguar Tracking Expeditions are generally more expensive than general interest tours because of the remoteness of the area, and that the search method involves plying up and down a labyrinth of rivers in the Lower Pantanal, including the São Lourenço , Negrinho , Cuiabá , and Piquri .

On the first day of this tour we explore the famous Transpantaneira until we arrive our first lodge, at the halfway point along the highway.  We will spend the next two days plying the river searching for the Jaguar.  On the final day, you will once again have the full day to spend with your guide along the woodland trails at the lodge or

Your bilingual guide will pick you up at the Cuiaba airport and you’ll begin your 1:30/2;00 hours journey to Piuval Lodge, home to a vast number of wildlife. The first part of the trip is about one hour 100km along a asphalt road to Poconé, which is capital of the Pantanal and the last city before entering the world’s largest wetland. From Poconé you will take the famous Transpantaneira Highway, where you’ll find optimal locations to photograph and observe wildlife. Arriving at the lodge for lunch, your activities will start during the afternoon. Accommodation and dinner will be at a hotel.

04th and 5th Day

The State Park occupies a vast tract of land in the hearth of Pantanal. It’s a huge reserve in the region and home of the majestic Jaguar the most special water-birds. It’s a single best place to do boat trips, birdwatching and photography. Experience the Jaguar Safari in the principal rivers of Mato Grosso. Mornings start early in the Pantanal; breakfast early and leaving as soon as possible for better photo shoot opportunities (You can adjust the time of breakfast with your guide). We will leave the hotel in a motorboat looking for jaguars in the tributaries of the Meeting of the Waters State Park, this is one of the three largest protect areas in Pantanal. With a high density of jaguar prey, including caiman and large groups of capybara, this location offers you the best chance to see a kill.

When the water of the Pantanal is at its lowest, from June till November, and the banks of the rivers become exposed, jaguars ar often found resting and hunting along the river’s edge. We will also encounter other interesting wildlife, including Giant Otters, Neotropical Otters, Caimans, Capibaras, Tapirs, Yellow Anaconda, Howler Monkeys, Capuchin Monkeys and many birds species including the magnificent Touco Toucan and the endangered Hyacinth Macaw. Often we enjoy our lunch watching the jaguar. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of opportunities to take a safe bathroom breaks on the beach as necessary. A special treat, NPS guests cruise one of the Pantanal’s largest protected areas on guided jaguar safaris.

Day 1, Start Cuiabá to Pantanal ranch

Meeting in the morning at the airport (CGB) or hotel in Cuiabá city and transfer to our Pantanal ranch. After driving about one and a half hour we arrive in Poconé. From there our wildlife adventure starts as we hit the Transpantaneira, a dirt road that transects the northern Pantanal. Arrive at the lodge just before lunch time. After a midday break we go on a photo safari in search of dry land mammals and birds. Back to the lodge after sundown.  With luck, the darkness may reveal foxes, racoons, owls, and other nocturnal species . Dinner and overnight. (L,D)

Day 2, Pantanal ranch

Full day devoted to explore the many wildlife oppurtunities on this extraordinary private reserve. Our activities are a combination of overland safaris and nature walks. The guide will accompany you on all excursions to truly enhance your wildlife viewing. (B,L,D).

Day 3 - Pantanal ranch to Porto Jofre

Early start to witness the awakening of the Pantanal. Breakfast and check out. This morning we will drive further into the Pantanal, all the way through Transpantaneira, to Porto Jofre. Stop to photograph all kind of wildlife concentrated in the water ponds on both sides along the road. Lunch and break. After a brief break,  we go on our first boat safari in the  Meeting of the Waters State Park .   Located in a convergence area of large rivers and preserved woods, this area is considered today the best place on the planet to observe jaguars in their natural habitat. Our safaris are operated on modern boats, equipped with radio and helmed by expert guides specialized in tracking these big cats . Dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 4 - 5, Morning and afternoon boat safari

Two days devoted to explore the Cuiabá river and its tributaries. Our naturalist-guided water safaris are timed to allow photography during the first and last hour of light and give you the best chance of viewing jaguars. During excursions, you will also encounter other interesting wildlife. Watch for Giant River Otters, Caimans, Howler Monkeys, Capybaras and many bird species. Our outings will be always a full day, from sunrise to sunset, with a break for lunch and siesta at the lodge. The exact lengths of the outings will, of course, vary depending on the sightings and you should be prepared to be flexible with the timetable. (B,L,D)

Day 6, Transfer out.

After breakfast, head back to Cuiabá where the trip ends around 2pm. (B)

PANTANAL JAGUAR BUDGET TOUR – 4 DAYS

This jaguar tour is the cheapest option we have! Budget not means it is a cheap tour, but if we compare with the other JAGUAR TOURS, this is the cheaper, because the accommodations are cheaper than the other one. In terms of wildlife spotting, this tour is so good like the tours more expensive.

This activity itinerary is only an example how can be the activities distribution during your stay in the Pantanal and it can have chances according the weather and environmental conditions.

Day 01 – Private Transfer from Cuiabá to Pousada Pouso Alegre, Pantanal North

Pick up at the airport or hotel in Cuiabá and private transfer to the Pousada Pouso Alegre located in Pantanal North. The trip from Cuiabá to the lodge are almost 140km, it takes 02 up to 03 hours (depend of the conditions of the dirt road) been 100km in paved road until the Poconé City + 33 km of dirt road (Transpantaneira road) from Poconé to the farm entrance + 07 km of trail inside of the farm to where is located the Lodge.

Arrival at the lodge and check in. After relax a little bit and before get dark, you go for a nature walking for about 1h30m up to hours, where you will pass on boardwalk and bush. During the hike the guide, explain about the Pantanal´s environment and you have chance to spot coat mundi, agouti and many birds.

After dinner, you go to night car safari around the ranch area. In this tour a “silibim” (powerful lantern) is used, which reflects to the eyes of the animals, this allowing the best location of animals of nocturnal habits such as alligators, owls, fox, spider, tapir, etc. The night tour takes about 1 hour up to 1h30m. At night, the starry sky of the Pantanal is also a beautiful attraction.

Day 2 – Pantanal day tour with English speaking guide

Before breakfast, you go for a sunrise walk for about 1 hour to search for wildlife and birds. Around the lodge, there are bodies of water and marshes where the morning activity of birds, caimans, and other animals, encourages one to wake up and watch the sun rising outdoors. You have the chance of see the beautiful sunrise in Pantanal and great chances of spot Tapir, eating crab fox, dears, raccoons and birds.

After breakfast, you go for a car safari inside of the farm area. The trails scattered throughout each sector of the farm gives access to different environments, such as dry forests, flooded forests, savannahs, fields and swamps, providing the opportunity to sighting several kinds of Pantanal´s wildlife. Also Inside of the farm area there are many waterholes during the dry season, where can be discreetly observed tapirs, anteaters, deer, coatis and many other wildlife, as well as several medium-sized birds. The tour duration goes from 1h30m up to 2h30m depending on the climatic season.

After lunch, private transfer to Porto Jofre region located in the end of the Transpantaneira Road, almost 120km from Pousada Pouso Alegre. The trip will take between 4 and 5 hours and stops along the way will be made to spot wildlife (photographic Safari). Check-in at Pousada do Neco in the Porto Jofre region. Dinner. Overnight in Private room with air-condition and bathroom. (B,L,D)

Day 3 – Day tour with English speaking guide (boat tour searching for Jaguars)

After Breakfast, you will go to a jaguar motor Boat tour to search for the biggest cat of the Americas. The best months for spot Jaguars on the region is from July up to October, during the dry season, when the jaguar are closer to the rivers, looking for water and hunting. You will spend the full day in the rivers searching Jaguars and another wildlife like giant others, capybaras, caimans, monkeys and several species of birds. The tour happen on the Cuiabá, Piquiri and Três Irmãos rivers ( Parque Estadual Encontro das Águas ). Normally at lunchtime, there is a stop under the shade of the trees where you have your meal, served in a lunch box. After a short rest, you will continue the tour searching for jaguars and other wildlife. The boat has a small cover, which helps to protect from the sun, which is very hot during the dry season in the Pantanal. Return to the Lodge in the end of the day.

Day 4 – Private transfer from Pantanal (Porto Jofre) to Cuiabá

After breakfast, transfer back to Cuiabá. The trip will take between 5 up to 6 hours and some wildlife can be spotted on the way back to the city. (B).

Day 1. Cuiabá airport a traditional Pantanal ranch.

Arrival at Cuiabá airport in the morning, where you will meet your guide and transfer to the Pantanal. After driving about one and a half hour we arrive in Poconé. From here our wildlife adventure starts as we hit the Transpantaneira road, a dirt road that transects the Northern Pantanal.  We will arrive at our lodge just before lunch time. After our midday break we go on a forest walk in search for dry land mammals and birds. Pantanal ranch

Full day to explore the many wildlife opportunities at the private reserve. Our activities are a combination of overland safaris, night safaris,forest walks and canopy towers. We start before sunrise until 10am and from 330pm until dust. (B,L,D).

Pantanal ranch and transfer to Porto Jofre.

Early breakfast and checkout. This morning we drive further into the Pantanal, all the way to Porto Jofre at the end ofthe Transpantaneira road. We stop to photograph all kind of wildlife on our way to Porto Jofre.  Check-in at our lodge situated on the riverbank of the mighty Cuiabá river. Lunch and break. In the afternoon we go on our first boat safari in search for Jaguars and other Wildlife concentrated along the riverbanks. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Days 4,5* Boat safaris for Jaguars and other wildlife in the State Park.

We will have two full days devoted to the boat safaris on the Cuiabá River and its tributaries, in order to maximize our chances of watching and photographing Jaguars, Giant River Otters and a realm of wildlife in the Meeting of the Waters State Park. Our outings will always be during the day, from sunrise to lunch and after a short midday break we go out again until to sunset. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 5.  Porto Jofre and back to Cuiabá airport

Breakfast and checkout. Overland transfer to Cuiabá. We will stop to photograph all kind of wildlife on our way to the airport where we arrive around 12pm.  (B,L)
