Barclays Travel Insurance Review
Marvin's low-down on Travel Insurance from Barclays
The experts say:
Barclays' Travel Pack Worldwide Travel Insurance is one of the highest-rated travel insurance policies on the market. It has been given a Policy Score of 86% by Which?, and a ranking of 1 out of all 71 providers. It also has a Complete Covid Cover rating, and provides up to £10 million in medical expenses cover. In addition, airline failure is included as standard, and there is baggage cover of up to £1500 and cancellation cover of up to £5000. Unfortunately, the excess payable on medical claims is not known. Barclays' Travel Pack Worldwide Travel Insurance does not have a Fairer Finance Rating at this time. Overall, Barclays' Travel Pack Worldwide Travel Insurance offers comprehensive cover and good value for money, making it an excellent choice for travelers looking for peace of mind.
What Barclays customers are saying right now:
- 🙂 Fast, seamless experience for some customers
- 🙂 Minimal risk investment account available
- 😊 Customer service willing to help in some cases
- 😃 Staff apologise and offer help despite lack of service
- 🤩 Fraud advisors take responsibility for customer protection
- 😡Poor customer service with staff who are unprofessional, scruffy, and often hostile.
- 😤Robotic customer service that requires countless buttons to be pressed before any help is given.
- 🤬Disrespectful treatment of customers and refusal to accept valid address proof.
Barclays customer reviews summary
Barclays has been receiving reviews that range from average to abysmal. Customers have reported unprofessional staff, long wait times, incorrect information given on the phone, and generally poor customer service. Not only that, customers have experienced fraud with no help or support from Barclays in trying to resolve it. With such a wide range of experiences, it's hard to give Barclays a good rating. The overall impression is one of a lack of care and attention from the bank and its staff, leaving customers feeling frustrated and helpless. Score: 2/10.

Barclays Travel Insurance: Want the Best Pack?
Will Barclays travel insurance be the premier experience you are looking for? You can make up your mind after reading this handy overview. We’ll share valuable information about their packs , how to claim , useful contact numbers and reviews . Come and embarque on a journey with us and explore more...
Barclays Travel Insurance Packs
Barclays travel insurance works slightly differently to other providers. This is going to sound a little crazy in the world of travel insurance, but you won’t see Barclays pop up on any comparison sites. If you’re asking yourself how on earth you buy Barclays travel insurance then, we’re about to let you know.
The most critical thing to know is that Barclays travel insurance is only available to select customers. There are two options you can go for: Travel Pack and Travel Pack Plus . They are called packs because they include a range of benefits (yippee). We’ll share all the juicy details in a minute. First, how do you know if you qualify to add the insurance? You can add a pack if you have one of the following accounts:
- Barclays Bank Account
- Barclays Basic Current Account
- Student Additions
- Higher Education Account
- Premier Current Account
- If you have another account with Barclays give them a call and they will tell you if you can add a pack
As we mentioned, there are two packs to choose from and they are full of surprises (all good we might add!). To give you a really clear picture of what the packs include we will highlight them below, side by side. Both packs are for annual multi-trip travel insurance and include up to 31 days’ travel at a time.
Information correct as of August 2019.
*Cover is for you and your partner living at the same address. Your children are also covered when travelling with you if they are under 18, or under 23 if they are in full-time education and living with you outside of term time. Everyone insured must be a UK resident."
Barclays travel insurance will offer you an excellent level of cover with very low excesses! We’ve reviewed the policy and for both the Travel Pack and Travel Pack Plus here are some of the benefits you could get:
Prices correct as of August 2019. Always check the policy wording for the most up to date prices.
*In the event of a catastrophe you will be covered for extra accommodation and/or transport costs if you are forced to move from your accommodation. You must have booked your accommodation directly with the provider, and events covered include avalanche, earthquake, explosion, fire, flood, landslide, storm or tsunami.
How does this compare to other insurers on the market? Cover limits seem to be fairly generous, but you can find higher limits on many of these benefits. However, experts rate Barclays travel insurance highly and customers sing its praise in comparison to other providers (see bottom of page for reviews). The most important person in this story is you, so you need to feel comfortable whichever company you choose.
Is the Barclays Premier Travel Insurance Pack Still Available?
The Barclays Premier Travel Insurance Pack is no longer available to new customers. Don’t worry though, we compared the benefits to the packs currently available and you’ll be getting an even greater level of cover. Barclays recently increased the level of cover across multiple sections too. Nothing is for free though, and with the increased cover, Barclays also raised the price of their packs too.
In the next section you’ll find out exactly how much you would have to pay and we’ll do a price comparison against the industry average to see just how Barclays fares.
Barclays Travel Insurance Prices
There are a lot of factors to bear in mind when choosing travel insurance. While you don’t want to break the bank, travel insurance is one of those things you tend to get what you pay for.
In order to compare Barclays travel insurance prices, we have done a comparison for an annual policy including Europe for a 35-year-old woman with no pre-existing medical conditions.
As you can see, Barclays is much pricier than your average travel insurance provider. Since they operate the pack system though, an exact comparison is difficult. Don’t forget that Barclays includes RAC breakdown cover and even more benefits with Travel Pack Plus.
We did some research and RAC breakdown cover starts at £4.50 a month (£54 per year). That price is if you’re lucky enough to have a brand spanking new car and goes up from there! Depending how much you pay, you could save a bundle with this deal.
If you are sick of overpriced airport food and plastic seats you may want to treat yourself to an airport lounge next trip. This will set you back £15 - £20 on average, but if it’s included in your pack, it would be rude not to accept! See you later toasted sandwiches and hello hors d'oeuvres!
It’s important to note that if you purchase a pack you are locked in for at least six months. As of August 2019, the actual price per month is:
- Travel Pack = £12.50
- Travel Pack Plus = £18.00
Overall, do we think Barclays travel insurance is good value? If you don’t have a car, you shouldn’t even consider it because you will be paying for something you don’t need. Barclays does have a comprehensive level of travel insurance cover but you can find the same cover elsewhere (minus the breakdown cover). If you have a car and a family, plus love to travel a lot, then it could be an interesting option for you.
Faced with so many decisions, you need a holiday soon! Don’t worry, we are here to help. We’ve reviewed a lot of the top insurers. If you don’t want the breakdown cover, but want a more flexible provider with competitive prices, you could check out our guide on Admiral travel insurance .

If you cancel within the 14 day period, you will receive a refund as long as you haven’t made a claim and no incident has happened which is likely to cause you to claim.
After the 14 day period, you must hold the pack for a minimum of six months. After six months, you can then cancel at any time.
Barclays Travel Insurance Reviews
Now that we’ve given you all the facts and nitty-gritty detail, let’s see what customers and the exerts say about Barclays travel insurance packs . First up, customer reviews . While we found some reviews stated the claims process is lengthy, comments were generally quite positive. In the world of travel insurance, this isn’t always easy to come across!
That’s what the customers are saying and it sounds like Barclays are doing something right! What about the experts then? Defaqto independently reviews travel policies in the UK based on quality and policy features. It gives the Travel Pack and Travel Pack Plus five stars, the highest rating a product can receive. In our opinion, this travel insurance is of a high standard and offers that extra bit of protection for you and your family.

Barclays travel insurance, underwritten by Aviva, has been awarded with 3.79 out of 5 stars by 14 customers on Smart Money People . Here is a sample of positive and negative reviews that you might find helpful:
"... We were told that there was the 55 Euro excess to pay but then all other medical bills were sorted directly by Barclays - unlike many other insurers that only let you try to claim back later..." "Excellent product. Easy to understand terms and conditions. No fuss claims process and good value for money." "... My claim took 7 months to process... I was even made to pay further costs to help facilitate my claim or else as I was told, my claim wouldn’t go further... My costs increasingly became more than the cost of my claim eventually I was worse off financially after I started claiming..."

Travel insurance with Barclays.

Does anyone else have travel insurance with Barclays Bank? Partner has been assured that the travel insurance pack he's added includes cruise cover for all the specific things that could go wrong on a cruise (cancelled cruise, late disembarkation, missed ports etc), but when I look online at their general information it only mentions; winter sport, golf and business cover as additional optional extras. Need to pay my final balance today so need to know for sure if the travel insurance we have covers us.

If you need to know for sure, then I suggest you contact the insurer directly for confirmation. Hopefully it is included.
My partner spoke to them, they assured him it's all on there but I was just being cautious as although verbally they've stated it's included it's not listed on their generic online information. I'm presuming they will send out paperwork to confirm everything in writing but I need to pay my balance today.
I really would check that your insurance includes things like Medical repatriation - including removal by helicopter if necessary and that if you have to cancel you get the full amount of your holiday back. Many insurance companies have a limit of how much they pay out in the event of a cancellation. Many will have a limit of between £5,000 and £10,000 - this may be enough but for many cruises it won't be depending on the length of the cruise and the grade of cabin chosen.
On our forthcoming long cruise I had great difficulty in finding a company that would pay out in full the cost of the cruise if we had to cancel.
If you have to know all the details today, then I suggest you consider cancelling the Barclays one and find an online Insurance provider which will issue the full policy details electronically - either by email or by downloading a PDF. If Barclays are posting it out by snail mail and you have to know today, then I see no other alternative unless you contact Barclays yourself and get whatever level of re-assurance you are seeking.
Never, ever rely on what you are told over the phone in regard to insurance. You should be able to access the schedule on line.
As balf suggest, look for it on line, and whatever definitely get it in writing, and take a copy with you. Insurers are very good at not paying out on any excuse! It took me 3 months to get a refund from Sage, when we had to cancel a cruise when my wife had cancer.
Thank you for the advice
Any paperwork sent to you will be the same as that available to view before purchase. This is available online.
LV do specifically mention cancellation of excursions. I would compare Barclays with their policy as if it isn't in there you aren't covered.
My parents found out the hard way about what wasn't covered in a policy when their passports were stolen. Replacing them cost 4 figures.

Barclays Travel Pack: Travel Insurance for the Frequent Explorer
Disclosure: Some of the links on our website are affiliate links, meaning at no extra cost to you, we will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase .
Don’t you hate dealing with travel insurance?
*Sigh, adulting sucks*
There’s nothing more frustrating than coming away none of the wiser with a fuzzy head and inbox full of spam from comparison sites.
And then we found Barclays Travel Pack!
A comprehensive worldwide, multi-trip travel insurance plan for the admin haters that doesn’t act as your second mother.
“You can’t do this”, and you can’t do that.”
Jeez, Louise!
Barclays Travel Pack: 5 Key Features
1. Worldwide Travel Insurance for you/partner & dependants up to 23 2. Covers winter sports & equipment 3. Breakdown cover & free airport lounges (plus) 4. Unlimited multi-trip insurance covering trips up to 31 days. 5. Covid Cover
Good to Know: Going away longer than 31 days? Getting an extension is possible, but you’ll have to call them.
What is Barclays Travel Pack & Is It Suitable for me?
Barclays Travel Pack does exactly what it says on the tin.
Designed with the frequent traveller in mind, this travel insurance plan covers trips of up to 31 days. This is an excellent option for anyone going on three or 4+ trips a year.
For the adventurous types, this comes straight from the horse’s mouth:
“Whether you’re skiing on the slopes at Chamonix or exploring the Great Barrier Reef, you and your family are covered .“
What’s Included with the Barclays Travel Pack?

Barclays Travel Pack vs Travel Pack Plus
So, the only thing that sets the two travel packs apart is that the “plus” version gives you up to six free airport lounge visits per year. If you’re travelling with your partner, remember that each visit counts as two, so plan accordingly.
If you fly often and like to take advantage of airport lounges, then the “plus” pack is worth considering.
However, there are no guarantees that you’ll bag an airport lounge, as this will depend on availability on the day. You can book in advance to guarantee £5 each, but we’d rather wing it.
The Barclays Travel Pack comes in at £12.50 per month, with a minimum subscription of six months. Meanwhile, Barclays Travel Plus costs £18.00 per month, also with a minimum subscription of six months.
More About Free Airport Lounges with Barclays Travel Pack Plus
It seems like you’re keen on getting free airport lounge access, huh?
Once you’ve bought your insurance, download the DragonPass app to see which lounges you can use and where they’re located.
These lounges usually have great perks, like free food and drinks.
Trust me, with airport prices being what they are, this is where you’ll get the most value out of your money.
But wait, there’s more!
Some lounges even let you swap out your visit for spa treatments or restaurant vouchers (although this varies depending on the airport).
One thing to remember, though – before you use up any of your lounge visits, double-check whether you already have access through your holiday package or other subscriptions/credit cards.
For comparison – airport lounges generally start at around £25+ per person.
What About RAC Breakdown Cover with Barclays Travel Pack?
Both Travel Packs include full breakdown cover by the RAC, including:
- Roadside assistance in the UK & Europe
- At home assistance
- Onward travel assistance
This comprehensive breakdown covers everything from being stuck outside your home to anywhere in Europe. We’ve all locked our keys in the car or flattened the battery, haven’t we?
There are a few more cool perks, including onward travel assistance where you can get a car replacement, hotel accommodation or other transport arrangements.
Please note this does not include commercial vehicles.
How Does Barclays Travel Pack Compare with other UK Travel Insurance?
I grew bored browsing through comparison sites for a half hour. I hate admin, and scouring to save a tenner for insurance that acts like a second mother isn’t worth my time!
It was frustrating to discover that the cheapest option I could find for our trip to Mexico was approximately £55 – which was only for a single trip!
Even the next level of coverage, which cost around £77, offered minimal protection.
Annual Travel Insurance Comparison
Due to taking numerous trips per year, we have also looked into annual travel insurance.
To compare, the cheapest insurance we found covers worldwide, and our minimum cover amount was £148.
£2 cheaper but no perks and less cover. Plus, there is a lot more excess. The maximum trip length was also 31 days.
This is where the Barclays travel packs sells it to me. There are no stipulations, winter sports are covered, and I can just pay monthly (6 months minimum).
That also includes any UK trips over two days.
Don’t Be That Person Who Skips Out on Travel Insurance
We’re the most happy-go-lucky people going, but – travel insurance is crucial! It covers unexpected events before or during your trip.
Most ignore the before part!
These events include trip cancellations or delays due to medical emergencies, lost luggage, breakages to your gadgets and even accidents.
Without travel insurance, you could face significant financial losses or medical expenses that could ruin your trip and affect your future. In short, travel insurance gives you peace of mind and helps protect you from the unexpected.
And if you think it won’t happen to you?

Final Thoughts on Barclays Travel Pack Travel Insurance
For someone who hates admin – Barclays Travel Pack has been a little bit of a gem for us. This travel insurance has been used for over 12 months for multiple trips.
And if you’ve got a problem, they’ll be on hand to help you.
All you need is a Barclays Account (I have a standard current account), and you can subscribe via the app.
For the sake of £12.50 a month and no dealing with renewals. It’s worth it, especially for a couple/family.
There’s a reason it’s rated highly, guys!

I got my pack in November and have already used my lounge access all 6 seats when will it refresh?
You only get six visits every 12 months. At least you got your money’s worth this year, ha!
