The PBR’s Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) began in 2014 as the premier expansion tour for the PBR. The Velocity Tour, the sport’s fastest-growing tour, brings the excitement and top-levels of cowboy and bovine talent that fans have come to expect from the sport to cities across the United States. The PWVT is proudly supported by Pendleton Whisky, Boot Barn, Cooper Tires, Rank 45, South Point Hotel & Casino, Tractor Supply, Kubota, the United States Border Patrol, Zip Recruiter and GovX. Every Velocity Tour event is carried on PBR RidePass on Pluto TV, PBR’s flagship digital network.

Hampton Coliseum Box Office will be open on Thursday, September 30 from 10am-4pm, Friday, October 1 from 10am-4pm and Saturday, October 2 from Noon until Showtime for in-person PBR purchases. PBR announces groundbreaking 2022 Unleash The Beast and Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour schedules

PUEBLO, Colo. – After announcing the move of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Finals to Fort Worth, Texas in May 2022, the organization has shared details on its newly formatted 2022 schedule, highlighted by a first-ever location for a New Year’s Day season opener, midweek events, and a new location for the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals, in Corpus Christi, Texas, May 6-7, where the tour will crown its champion and qualify riders for the PBR World Finals.

Starting in 2022, the usual year-long Unleash The Beast (UTB) and Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) seasons, which traditionally paused for a summer break, will now unfold within five action-packed months – January to May. These changes will provide more consistency to the PBR season without a momentum-sapping break as riders chase a world championship.

Ranging across both the UTB and PWVT, there will be 50 events in the first 19 weeks of 2022, which will comprise the new full seasons for these two tours. A new slate of exciting events to be scheduled in the second half of the year will be announced.

The 2022 UTB season will buck off in Indianapolis, Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a one-night only New Year’s Day event. The season will culminate with the 2022 PBR World Finals at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas May 13-22.

In conjunction with PBR World Finals, the 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Champions will also be crowned inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, adding to the biggest seven days in Western sports. With the first three rounds of competition held in Cowtown Coliseum May 16-17, the final two rounds will take place during the 2022 PBR World Finals May 13-22.

Following the launch of the new UTB season in Indianapolis will be one of the season’s most anticipated events for a milestone anniversary inside historic Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 7-9. The league’s 15th visit to the “World’s Most Famous Arena” will be the first three-day event of the season.

The Top 30 bull riders in the world will continue to storm into cities across the U.S. with the UTB stopping in Chicago, January 14-15; Sacramento, January 28-30; St Louis, February 18-19; Los Angeles, February 21-22; Little Rock, February 25-26; and more.

The PWVT, PBR’s premier expansion tour, will start its season on January 7 with a two-day event in Reno, Nevada at Reno Events Center, including 10 planned double-up events with competitions in two cities during one weekend, and lead into the newly announced Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals.

The PWVT races across the country for the first 16 weeks of 2022, including double up events in Portland, Oregon, January 15 and Cedar Park, Texas, January 14-15; Spokane, Washington and Greenville, South Carolina on January 22; and more.

“After we crown a 2021 World Champion for the final time this November in Las Vegas, 2022, starting in Indianapolis on New Year’s Day, is going to be ground-breaking for PBR with many major changes in store that add even more excitement to our sport,” said Sean Gleason, Commissioner and CEO, PBR.  “The 2022 season will be like no other in action and drama: in just 19 weeks, fans will have the chance to enjoy 50 events on our top two tours.”

PBR Announces 2024 Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Schedule

PUEBLO, Colo. – The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) today announced its 2024 competition schedule for the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, set to bring some of bull riding’s preeminent talents to 30 cities across 20 states, headlined by a historic 11 double-up event weekends.

The announcement comes on the spurs of one of the organization’s most dynamic individual seasons in 2023, as the PBR Velocity Tour broke and reset numerous attendance and competition records en-route to its most successful season to date.

In 2023, the expansion Velocity Tour hosted more than 289,000 fans, setting 21 event attendance records, while selling out 17 events.

On the dirt, Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) was crowned the 2023 PBR Velocity Tour Champion, concluding the season 113.5 points ahead of runner-up Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirao dos Indios, Brazil). The two battled it out until the final outs of the season at the tour’s Finals. Frost was crowned the Velocity Tour Champion just days before being selected by the Carolina Cowboys with the second overall pick in the 2023 PBR Teams Draft.

Throughout the upcoming five-month 2024 season, the Velocity Tour will hold 29 regular-season events, headlined by 11 double-up event weekends, including the tour’s season-launch weekend when it will hold events in Lexington, Kentucky (Jan. 5-6|Rupp Arena), and Portland, Oregon (Jan. 6|Moda Center).

Following the series’ opening weekend, the Velocity Tour will return to the iconic National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado, holding one of its two three-day events, and lone mid-week tour stop, Jan. 8-10.

To conclude the intense slate of January events, the Velocity Tour will host three consecutive double-up shows, traveling to Charleston, West Virginia (Jan. 12-13|Charleston Coliseum), and Spokane, Washington (Jan. 13|Spokane Arena), concurrently, followed by simultaneous events in Reno, Nevada (Jan. 19-20|Reno Events Center), and Grand Rapids, Michigan (Jan. 19-20|Van Andel Arena), and synchronized tour stops in Laredo, Texas (Jan 26-27|Sames Auto Arena), and Greenville, South Carolina (Jan. 26-27|Bon Secours Wellness Arena).

Throughout February, the Velocity Tour will bring events to eight cities across as many states, including South Carolina, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Massachusetts.

During the campaign, the Velocity Tour’s reach will be on full display as it holds events more than 2,500 miles apart, visiting North Charleston, South Carolina, at North Charleston Coliseum on Feb. 2-3 and Bakersfield, California, at Mechanics Bank Arena on Feb. 3.

To kick off its March campaign, the tour will debut in Bridgeport, Connecticut, at Total Mortgage Arena. Across all levels of PBR competition, the Touring Pro Division has held four events in the city, last travelling to Bridgeport in 2011.

As the month continues, Bangor, Maine, will host the second three-day event of the 2024 season on March 8-10.

The March slate of events will also include a return to Palm Springs, California, at Acrisure Arena on March 15-16. The Velocity Tour debuted in Palm Springs in 2023 to much fanfare, selling out both performances of the two-day event.

In the final month of the season, the Velocity Tour will traverse the Western United States, visiting Fresno, California (April 5-6|Save Mart Center), Eugene, Oregon (April 12-13|Matthew Knight Arena), and Wichita, Kansas (April 20|INTRUST Bank Arena), before Grand Forks, North Dakota and Alerus Center host the regular-season finale on April 27.

For the third consecutive year, the prestigious PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, launching the well-known Buc Days celebration. Riders will be vying for the title of 2024 PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Champion with five spots also on the line to qualify for the 2024 PBR World Finals.

Spencer Strider injury update: Braves ace to miss remainder of 2024 season following elbow surgery

Strider showed diminished velocity and effectiveness before complaining of elbow pain.

Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after undergoing elbow surgery on Friday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace, the team announced Saturday.

Strider went for an MRI after experiencing elbow pain following his most recent appearance. In two starts this season, he compiled a 7.00 ERA and a 2.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio. As CBS Sports explained at the time, Strider had showed reduced effectiveness and velocity :

The 25-year-old Strider had an uncharacteristic outing Friday. For starters, his fastball showed diminished velocity. He averaged 95.9 mph, more than a half tick lower than his first start (96.7) and well beneath his 97.2 mph average from 2023. Strider also had reduced effectiveness: he surrendered five runs on seven hits and three walks over the course of four innings pitched.

Strider is, of course, one of the best pitchers in the majors when healthy. In 67 career big-league appearances, including 54 starts, he's amassed a 3.47 ERA (124 ERA+) and a 4.54 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Strider finished fourth in Cy Young Award voting last season, all the while making his first career All-Star Game.

Our Mike Axisa explained the internal brace procedure last fall, writing the following : "A relatively new procedure -- an internal brace -- is an alternative to Tommy John surgery when the tear is located close to the bone. The internal brace procedure is much less invasive than Tommy John surgery and comes with a shorter rehab, though it still fairly lengthy."

The Braves, off to an 8-4 start this season, used Allan Winans to take Strider's most recent turn in the rotation. They optioned Winans to the minors on Friday in favor of Darius Vines .
