The Phoenix Prize Pack Returns!

By Ambassador Kael | Thu 02 May 2019 09:30:00 AM PDT

star trek online phoenix upgrade

We are excited to announce the return of the Phoenix Prize Pack, which return to Star Trek Online on PC from  May 2nd at 8AM PT til May 9th at 10am PT.

Just like Zefram Cochrane’s experimental vessel, the Phoenix Prize Pack blazes a trail into new frontiers! And, following in the model of its mythological namesake, the Phoenix Prize Pack also represents the return from the ashes of items, ships and other rewards that have been retired from Star Trek Online, and are no longer accessible by any other means. Purchasing and opening this promotional prize pack will offer players the unique opportunity of obtaining many otherwise inaccessible items, ships and equipment, which were previously available from events or promotions, or as other limited-availability rewards.

(Check further below for complete prize information!)

How it works is simple: Players may visit the Dilithium Store to purchase a Phoenix Prize Pack for the price of 4,500 Dilithium, or in packs of ten for 40,000 Dilithium. Every prize pack is Character Bound when purchased, and opening the pack will reward you with one of five Prize Tokens of varying rarity: Epic, Ultra Rare, Very Rare, Rare and Uncommon. Activating any Prize Token from your inventory presents you with the Redemption Store, which allows you to trade in Prize Tokens in return for your choice of item from a selection of retired items from the history of Star Trek Online.

In lieu of redeeming your Prize Token for an item that matches its rarity, you may also choose to exchange it for two Prize Tokens of the next-lower Rarity (e.g., trade in 1x Rare for 2x Uncommon). You’ll also have the option to exchange 10 Uncommon Prize Tokens for another Phoenix Prize Pack, giving you another opportunity at receiving the rarest prizes.

If you happen to be a veteran player already in possession of all of the retired items being offered, Uncommon Prize Tokens may also be traded in for a number of prizes that everyone can make unlimited use of: Fleet Credit Bonus Pools, Fleet Mark Bonus Pools, Reputation Mark Bonus Pools, Commendation XP Bonus Pools, or the special Phoenix Upgrade Tech (equivalent to multiple Universal Superior Tech Upgrades, with no Dilithium cost to apply!)

To celebrate the debut of this new promotion, all players will also have the ability to claim a free Phoenix Prize Pack once per account, once each day while the promotion is active. Each time this is claimed, players will also receive a 1x-Use version of the “Phoenix Replica Smallcraft” Admiralty Ship. This daily account prize may be claimed by visiting either Grym on Drozana Station, or Onna at Deep Space Nine. While the event is active, players may accept a mission from their Journal that will aid in locating these new contacts.

** All prizes obtained via this promotion – including Starships – are Bound to Character, and do not result in any Account-Wide Unlocks. Prize Tokens are Account Bound.

Gear Upgrade System

UpgradeWindow

The Gear Upgrade window. The top bar indicates the accumulated tech points and the bottom one shows the "Quality Improvement Chance". The latter chance can be increased by using better (or special) Tech Upgrades or by using consumable boosts from the Zen Store or from some special mission rewards.

The Gear Upgrade System enables players to improve the quality of their gear items by increasing both their mark and quality, i.e. rarity or "color" . It was added to the game shortly before the release of Delta Rising and can be accessed through a button on the bottom-left of the inventory window, or via the right-click menu of upgradable items while they are not equipped.

Refined dilithium icon

The resource requirements for upgrading can sometimes be eased during events known as Upgrade Weekends . During these events, the amount of technology points added by a Tech Upgrade is doubled, which means you need less dilithium to achieve the same results.

Tech Upgrade Kits [ | ]

Aside from their grade, there are also different types of Tech Upgrade kits. Most upgrade kits, such as those crafted in the R&D System or some handed out during special events , may only work on a specific "school", i.e. category, of items . Universal Tech Upgrades, such as Phoenix or Omega Tech Upgrades on the other hand, are applicable to any item.

Upgrade Accelerators [ | ]

Upgrade Accelerators are consumable items that can be used in conjunction with an upgrade kit. There are two types of Upgrade Accelerators. Both types come in two grades, standard and major.

  • Technology Boost (1.5x technology points)
  • Major Technology Boost (2x technology points)
  • Research Boost (1.5x quality improvement chance)
  • Major Research Boost (2x quality improvement chance)

Accelerators are mainly obtained from the Research and Development Pack which can be purchased from the Zen Store or as rewards from some special missions. They can also be sold and purchased on the exchange .

Upgrade process and results [ | ]

The upgrade process itself can be started once an item received the required amount of Tech Points from upgrade kits. The process does not take any time and it does not require any additional resources. Additionally, the system provides three slots for upgrading up to three items at a time.

The gear upgrade process always results in an improved gear mark as long as the mark can be upgraded (i.e. up to Mk XV). Also note: Common Installed Shipboard Parts Cannot Be Upgraded . Additionally, there is a (typically small) chance that the upgrade process will improve the rarity of the gear (up to Epic ). This chance is denoted by the Quality Improvement Chance bar on the upgrade window. It can be increased by using high-quality Tech Upgrades or by using the appropriate Upgrade Accelerators. Rarity improvement has varying effects on your gear. Many items will acquire an additional modifier . Others, like consoles, will instead gain a boost similar to the mark upgrade. The modifiers that can be achieved by rarity upgrades are however limited. Weapons may only gain [Acc], [Dmg], [CrtD] or [CrtH]. Some rarity upgrades will always yield the same modifier. Weapons, for example, will always gain [Ac/Dmg] when upgraded to epic. This is especially true for items belonging to gear sets. The corresponding information is found on the pages for the gear sets.

star trek online phoenix upgrade

Still striving to get the greatest performance out of your equipment? This weekend will be the perfect time to apply Tech Upgrades to your gear, as we’re doubling the amount of Technology Points earned from each one applied!

From December 1st at 10AM PDT (19:00 CEST) to December 5th at 10AM PDT (19:00 CEST) , every Tech Upgrade used will apply twice as many Technology Points toward your next Upgrade! This in turn reduces the amount of Dilithium that must be spent to reach each Upgrade threshold, allowing Captains additional chances to attain both Mark and Rarity increases on their favored load outs.
