Day 3 : Masai Mara Park
Today, we bid farewell to Lake Naivasha and resume our Kenya motorcycle safari, traveling along a dirt track towards the Mau escarpment until we reach Narok town. Continuing our journey, we proceed to Mara Base Camp for our overnight accommodation. Upon arrival at the park, we have lunch at the lodge before embarking on afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara. Leaving the motorbikes at the camp, we venture into safari 4x4s to explore the park and seek out a variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, giraffes, wildebeests, elands, cheetahs, and herds of elephants, among others. Following the game drives, we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 : Visit the Mara River
Set out for a full-day game viewing experience across the park, with the option of picnic lunch boxes. Alternatively, you can choose to embark on morning and afternoon game drives, enjoying a hot lunch at the camp. Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to visit the Mara River, observing the site of the annual migration. All meals and overnight accommodations are provided at the camp.
Day 5 : Lake Victoria
After breakfast, we set off from Mara to continue our Kenya motorcycling adventure tour, heading north of the great Masai Mara. We traverse the Loita plains, rich in wildlife such as zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, giraffes, and various other animals, birds, and wildlife. Our journey leads us to the shores of Lake Victoria, where we will stay overnight at the Supanova Hotel.
Day 6 : Journey to Mbita point
Depart on a scenic path to the shore of Lake Victoria arriving in the afternoon. Our destination is at Mbita point where we will spend the night.
Day 7 : Exploring Mbita Beach Point
Unwind and take in the stunning sights and sounds of Mbita Beach Point. Whether you seek a tranquil getaway, an enriching cultural experience, or simply a chance to immerse yourself in an exotic environment, Mbita Beach Point has something to offer every visitor. With its breathtaking scenery and pristine natural surroundings, it serves as the ideal destination for your next vacation. Revitalize your spirit with a stay at MBITA Beach Point, where our beach resort provides magnificent ocean views, luxurious amenities, and a wide array of engaging activities and excursions suitable for the entire family. Spend your day exploring the lake with a morning boat ride.
Day 8 : Tour in Kericho
Depart in the morning aboard the Water Bus to cross Lake Victoria to Luanda Kotieno, where you will then continue your motorcycle adventure to Kericho Town. The road from Luanda Kotieno to Kisumu offers stunning scenery, including cultural sites like Kit Mikai. You'll have the opportunity to visit Kenya's most dramatic archaeological site, Kit Mikayi, a vast granite rock tower along the Kisumu-Bondo highway. Kit Mikayi, which means "first wife" in Dholuo, is not named after an actual person but is a significant rock formation with three stone columns, the largest of which towers over 20 meters in height. According to Luo oral tradition, Kit Mikayi is tied to a story and memory. After exploring Kit Mikayi, proceed to Kericho for dinner and overnight stay.
Kericho, known as Tea Country, has positioned Kenya as the world's third-largest tea producer after India and Sri Lanka. The area is characterized by beautiful rolling hills adorned with neat, vibrant green tea bushes stretching as far as the eye can see. The climate in Kericho is ideal for tea cultivation, with rainfall almost every afternoon. The town was named after Ole Kericho, a Maasai Chief who was killed in battle by the Gusii in the 19th Century. You will have the opportunity to visit the tea farms before returning to the hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 9 to 10 : Final Days
It's a pity that it has to end, but this is where your safari will draw to a close. We're sure that you will return home with so many exciting and happy memories, and we hope that you will join us again on safari sometime in the future.

What people are saying about Claudious
The Climbing Guides and service in both Kenya and Tanzania were super (5+ stars) Kenya Shem, Joxhu, Joseph & Agustin super and thanks. For Kilimanjaro, Deus and Goodlucky were fantastic. However Claudios needs to update the schedule (Lake Nakuru day 7 was canceled) and make available lunches (they were missing on 3 days to and from Nairobi) and make clear when travel will be alone. Finally the Nairobi service agent pushes additional add on Nairobi packages. These are of poor value and should be avoided. These additional package coverage was misleading and I should have avoided completely. This was a Nairobi issue only. Everyone else was above board and super to work with. in summary, the climbs are great and highly recommended. Note the published schedule is not exact and deal with the Nairobi service agent with caution. (Don't take the additional offerings.) Overall it was a very good experience where I met with many great people. Thanks to all.
I had a successful hiking trip with Shem as my chief guide! We were successful in summiting Mt Kenya and came back down via the Chogoria route well! The team worked really well together and communication was professional as well as clear/transparent. I appreciated that every single person in the crew were up to task, responsible, and respectful. Shem, my guide, was very friendly and accomodating to my questions, needs and requests. He was also very kind and encouraging, i.e. encouraging me to walk on my own pace and take breaks while going up and down the mountains and valleys. The team also consisted of a cook, Augustine, and two porters - Joshua and Julius. They all seem to be working as a team really well. Augustine would check on how I feel each day (e.g. stomach and gut health) and he is such a good cook! Joshua and Julius are both quiet, strong and helpful porters. Despite the heavy loads on their backs, they would always have no problem getting to every destination on time (waaaaay earlier than me!). I had a great and memorable time in Mt Kenya. We started off the trek on the last day of 2023 and it was so special welcoming the new year above the clouds! I highly recommend for adventurers out there who are looking for the perfect team to enjoy Mt Kenya with to reach out to these guys! Ask for Shem as the guide -- guarantee that he won't disappoint! 😊
Edmond and team from Claudious Tours Safari put in a lot of effort and dedication to make this expedited 5-day ascent of Mount Stanley a success! Amazing experience in breathtaking environment with fantastic views and wildlife sightings from rainforest up to alpine conditions.
My partner and I had a fantastic experience hiking the Chogoria to Sirimon Mt Kenya route. The full team (Shem the guide, the chef (Gustin) and the Porters (Joshua, Peter, Jackson and Gilbert) were excellent and thoroughly looked after us. We were never hungry and the food was excellent and kept our energy levels up. When we were a little poorly they looked after us. Shem the guide always made sure we were OK, and was great at excellent the plants and sharing information about the surroundings. Would highly recommend this team.

FAQs on Kenya Motorcycle Rentals and Tours
No, sorry. Mad or Nomad do not offer any rentals, tours or services. Please contact the companies listed on this page directly.
This page displays motorcycle rental and tour companies from around the world. We do a lot of research into these companies before adding them and speak to the managers and owners. Many of the companies we have also used in the past or have met the owners while travelling.
While we have collected them all together in one place for your ease, we take no responsibility in your business with them. We’re simply showcasing companies in one easy-to-use place and are not involved with your dealings with them. Any business you have with these companies is at your own risk. We will not be held liable or responsible in any way.
The best time to rent a motorcycle or join a tour in Kenya is between July and September.
Take a video on your phone of the entire bike, do a walk around and film the condition of the chain, fairings, tyres, any bumps, dents and scratches. By doing so, you can’t get caught out and blamed for something you didn’t do when you return it.
Check the wheel bearings, chain, oil, coolant, brakes, clutch and that the handlebars are straight. Tyres need a decent amount of tread and should be suitable for the terrain you’re riding in. Take it for a short test ride and don’t feel pressured or rushed. Go with your gut and if there’s anything that catches your eye, speak to the owners immediately.
This is down to personal preference, where you’re riding and what’s available. If you’re renting or joining a motorcycle tour in the States and you’re going to be primarily on road, then you may want to opt for a big touring bike. If you’re headed to rural or mountainous countries and are going off-road in Central Asia for example, then go for a mid-weight single-cylinder.
We usually find lighter and cheaper rental bikes are better because they’re less stress, you don’t have to worry about dropping them all the time, are easier to fix and more fun.
For more info on choosing the right motorcycle for your trip, have a look at the below guide and also check out the adventure bikes page too.
- How to Choose Your Adventure Motorcycle
- Adventure Motorcycle Guides
We recommend lightweight and comfortable gear suitable for the climate you’re travelling in. If you’re heading to a particularly cold place, then go for Gore-Tex pro laminate.
But, the best all-round option is ventilated, light and comfy adventure bike gear. Take the thermal and waterproof liners out and leave them at home. Take a cheap pair of waterproof throwovers and a compressible down jacket that can be stuffed into a small bag. You can use both items as layering if it’s cold and rainy and they double up when off the bike and will reduce the amount of gear you have to take with you in your luggage.
It’s always better to take your own bike gear over renting or using kit from the rental company. You know your own stuff fits, works and is comfortable – especially your helmet. The last thing you want is to get a few days into your trip and get a headache from a tight lid.
Check out our riding gear article for more info on how to choose the right clothing and the guides section for our recommended kit.
- How to Choose Your Adventure Riding Gear
- Adventure Bike Riding Gear Guides
Contact the rental or tour company and ask what luggage the bike comes with. Your bike might come with soft bags, hard boxes, a top box or nothing at all.
You can often leave the gear you don’t want to take with you on the trip at the rental or tour company’s headquarters. So you can travel on a plane with a larger kit bag and just take the bag and gear you need on the bike.
The type of luggage you need depends on the type of trip you’re on, how much off-roading you’re doing and how long you’re going for.
A good option is to go for a waterproof duffle bag and a pair of Rok Straps as this type of luggage setup can be fastened to any bike’s pillion seat and you don’t need racks. And take an additional small and light rucksack for your important gear (camera, passport etc) so you don’t have to worry about it when off the bike.
For more info on choosing your motorcycle luggage, check out our guide page below.

Companies may offer motorcycle insurance as an optional extra, include it in the price or not offer it at all. This again depends on the country you’re riding in.
It’s worth getting insurance if you can and ask what the excess is as you will usually be liable for damage to the bike.
Motorcycle insurance is separate from personal travel insurance. This is incredibly important and you need to be very careful when choosing your personal insurance policy because the fine print often won’t cover you for bikes over 125cc, renting, touring or using a bike as your main mode of transport.
Check out our Admin section as you’ll find detailed guides on personal insurance, paperwork and safety on the road.

'Pirsig's Pilgrims' pay homage to famous 'Zen' author by re-creating his motorcycle ride
How far would you travel – in a car or on a motorcycle – to re-create the journey of a favorite author? Would 2,800 miles be too much for your pilgrimage?
For 50 years, travelers informally known as " Pirsig's Pilgrims ," or fans of Robert Pirsig and his book, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values," have followed the route described in the book, published in 1974.
In July, some of them, including a rider on the same year and model of the motorcycle Pirsig used, are planning a special ride of their own .
"It's individuals coming together to commemorate the anniversary with a group experience," says David Matos, a ride organizer who will drive a support vehicle.
- How the venerable Zen motorcycle found a home at the Smithsonian .
- Museum curators labored for hours to prepare motorcycle for exhibit .
Pirsig's book was an unexpected hit, selling 50,000 copies in the three months after its publication. A number of readers discovered a deep kinship with Pirsig, his work, and his philosophy.
Can't see our graphics? Click here .
How deep is the affinity? It's enough for individual Pirsig enthusiasts to retrace his 1968 Minneapolis-to-San Francisco route, an estimated 2,800-mile phenomenon that fans started after the book appeared.
Travelers have done it on motorcycles or in cars, at first relying on story details as a guide. Later, they've used carefully researched GPS coordinates.
Besides the 50th anniversary rides, 2024 is shaping up as a memorable year for Pirsig aficionados. The author's motorcycle, a 1966 305cc Honda Super Hawk, is on exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., since April 15.
Who's organizing the anniversary ride?
In observance of the book's publication, a group of riders connected with the Robert Pirsig Association , a group that focuses on Pirsig's life, literature and philosophy, are planning their own commemorative ride starting in Minneapolis on July 8. That's the same day Pirsig started his trip in 1968.
Organizers are working with Henry Gurr , a professor of physics who has documented the ride . "It was a passion project of his," Matos says.
"I decided I'd follow the route as a retirement project back in 2002," Gurr says. "I wasn't doing it for fun. I turned it into a research project to find every place Pirsig mentioned in the travel narrative.
"I wanted to find it, get a picture, and a GPS coordinate," he says. His trip – by car – and his exhaustive research netted 604 waypoints, which he plotted on a Google map.
For more information on the ride and other events: Click here .
The group plans to arrive in San Francisco on July 20, Matos says. "We're going to average about 250 miles a day. The exact route will depend on who's on the ride during that leg."
There's no fee to participate, and people are expected to pay for their food, lodging and other travel expenses.
The #ZMM50thRide is "a group of people who are piecing it together," says John Chorne, one of the organizers. "We're hoping to incorporate a lot of what Robert Pirsig experienced on his ride."
Details and number of riders are still being determined, but "the bulk of the ride is as applicable today as it was 50 years ago," he says.
Organizers want to visit a number of locations Pirsig mentions in the book.
What do riders get out of retracing Pirsig's route?
It may be the combined effect of thinking about what Pirsig wrote while riding a road Pirsig traveled.
Everyone's bound to have a different answer on what it means, Chorne says. But riding a motorcycle on those roads, and how it relates to the book, is more of an experience than just driving a vehicle.
"I've just recently gotten back into motorcycle riding," Chorne says. "I started last year and I hadn't ridden since I was 18. So it's coming up on 40 years ago."
"One of my favorite quotes in the book is, "along old roads, like this, tensions disappear." And the other thing Pirsig mentions is, "we're trying to make good time, but the focus is more on good than time," Chorne says.
"We're trying to re-create that experience with this ride," Chorne says. "We're connecting with people who are enthusiasts like I am and learning from them."
"This route is really incredible for the natural scenery," Gurr says. "It's the open road and good traveling."
Even those in an automobile will have "a wonderful trip and a wonderful time sightseeing, as if they were on a motorcycle."
You'll see a '66 Super Hawk – the same model Pirsig rode – on the ride
One of those enthusiasts – and one who will undoubtedly attract lots of attention – is Jon Kosmoski of Neptune Beach, Florida, who restores old motorcycles , including Honda Super Hawks, as a hobby.
He's read Pirsig's book, and is taking his own restored Super Hawk on the #ZMM50th ride.
"I was working on a Super Hawk and was planning to paint it red. And then I saw a notice about the ride," Kosmoski says.
"It's like a confluence of circumstances," he says. "It seemed like a really fun adventure to take, since I work on the bikes more than I ride them these days. And I drive up to Minnesota every summer anyway."
Kosmoski painted the Super Hawk black, to match Pirsig's cycle. "I found a luggage rack that looks exactly like the one he had. I've got the right kind of handlebars. So it will look close to his."
Work commitments will prevent him from going the entire route. He may have to turn around in Miles City, Montana.
"I'll go as long as I can," Kosmoski says. While hanging out with other riders, he hopes to learn more about the philosophy and meaning of the book.
It's also a personal challenge: He did a complete rebuild on the Super Hawk. "I've got to make sure this thing will hold together for at least 1,000 miles," Kosmoski says.
"It gets into Pirsig's notion of quality, right? What kind of quality did I do on my own restoration?"
Here's how to see the Smithsonian's Pirsig exhibit
Robert Pirsig's Honda Super Hawk and other items are on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, 1300 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C., 20560.
You'll find the cycle and other items in the " America on the Move " exhibition on the museum's first floor, in the East Wing.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day, except for Dec. 25. Admission is free and no tickets are required. For more information, go to https://americanhistory.si.edu or call (202) 633-1000.
