Trek Fetch+ 2 in review – Minimalism vs. Usability

Trek is making a debut in the urban bike segment! With the Trek Fetch+ 2, the American brand launch a real eye-catcher on the cargo bike market, attracting attention with its bright colours and naked bike aesthetics. Read on to find out what the longtail ebike with Bosch motor and rather minimalist equipment is hiding behind its striking façade.

Trek are one of the biggest bicycle brands in the world, known especially for their high-performance road bikes and mountain bikes. Previously, the brand has never been associated with urban or cargo bikes, as normally their numerous subsidiaries cover this part of the business. This is also the reason that you have never read about an urban bike from Trek in DOWNTOWN before. Well, the Trek Fetch+2, equipped with a Bosch Performance Cargo Line motor and retailing at € 4,999, is now changing that! We put the Fetch+ 2 to the test to see how much cargo bike know-how the industry giant Trek bring to the table and how the bike performs in everyday use.

Naked bike with a generous accessories catalogue – The special features of the Trek Fetch+ 2

When ordering the basic version of the Trek Fetch+ 2, you will probably either have a custom solution in mind or you will have to pay the online shop another visit later on. The standard version of the already minimalist e-cargo bike costing € 4,999 comes virtually naked. No mudguards, bench or panniers. These features can be added, keeping the basic price low, and allowing everyone to assemble the bike according to their specific requirements, or to opt for their own customised solutions.

The rest of the configuration follows the minimalist approach: You won’t find a suspension fork or a dropper post, and instead of an automatic hub gear with belt drive you will get a simple 10-speed derailleur. With the Fetch+ 2, Trek dispense with most of the features of modern bikes and thus manage to offer a comparatively light cargo bike that weighs 31.4 kg in the basic configuration. The accessories catalogue, on the other hand, is extensive. Front and rear baskets made of hard plastic are available for € 199.99 each, and the mudguard set for € 59.99. It all comes in four different colours, allowing the Trek Fetch+ 2, which itself is available in three bright colours, to be tailored to your individual taste. The Family Pack Kit includes a bench seat, safety bar, backrest, spoke protector and comes at a price of € 299.99. Child seats can be installed on the long rear carrier, which is compatible with Thule Yepp Nexxt child seats. We reviewed the Trek Fetch+ 2 with the Family Pack Kit and the rear pannier baskets which comes with a price tag of € 5,498.

Equipment options on the Trek Fetch+ 2: What do you really need on a cargo bike?

The Trek Fetch+ 2 comes with a relatively small 500 Wh battery. In combination with the 85 Nm Bosch Cargo Line motor, it might be a good idea to plan ahead for longer tours with a heavy load or some vertical metres. However, when using the bike only for short distances, or if you can charge it at your destination, range won’t be a problem. The battery, neatly integrated into the frame, is very easy to remove and charge.Instead of an overly crowded display, Trek have opted for Bosch’s SmartphoneGrip mount.

If you connect the Bosch eBike Flow app to the bike, you will have uncluttered access to navigation and the essential riding data. Your smartphone can be easily controlled from the remote on the handlebar, and is charged wirelessly while riding. If you prefer the Bosch Kiox 300 display instead, you can buy it for € 129 and retrofit it with a flick of the wrist.A quick trip to the bakery? No need to attach the smartphone, the Fetch+ 2 also works without it. At least, unless you activate the eBike Lock function of the Bosch Smart System that turns the smartphone into a digital key required to activate all motor functions. Conveniently, this works completely automatically as long as the Bluetooth is activated and as the Fetch+ 2 comes without any physical lock, we highly recommend this feature.

Equally straightforward is the 10-speed Shimano DEORE derailleur, which works well with the powerful Bosch Performance Cargo Line motor. The gear range is wide enough for the steepest climbs, while the ability to carry load and the shifting performance are absolutely sufficient for a cargo bike.What goes up must come down! On steep descents, we would have welcomed some more braking power on the Fetch+ 2, which has a maximum permissible weight of 200 kg. An upgrade of the rather small 180 mm brake disc at the front would allow the bike to stop more quickly even when fully loaded.The rather basic suspension relies entirely on the 2.35″ wide tires. They offer little comfort and gave both us and the load a good shaking when riding over kerbs. However, they work on the occasional gravel stretches and on rough asphalt.

Tuning-Tipp: Upgrade to a 200 mm brake disc at the front for more braking power

The handling of this bike really surprised us, though. The Trek Fetch+ 2 feels like a much shorter bike when you ride it. The compact cargo bike offers very direct handling thanks to the wide handlebar and steep steering angle. Those who cycle a lot will have great fun on the Fetch+ 2, as it is a playful ride and manoeuvres tight corners precisely. For newbies, however, the handling might be a little too nervous, especially with moving children in the back seat. The lack of a dropper post increases the fear of tipping over, as especially small riders will have a problem getting their feet on the ground quickly. In addition, the Fetch+ 2 will only be available in one size for all heights between 1.60 m and 1.90 m, but switching between riders of different heights is made rather easy by the quick release on the adjustable seat post.

Wow , the Trek Fetch+ 2 feels like a much shorter bike when you ride it!

The new Trek Fetch+ 2: Who gets their money’s worth?

The Trek Fetch+ 2 scores points on short-distance rides through the city. For transporting up to two children or a trip to the farmers’ market, the Trek Fetch+ 2 is also ideal. The agile cargo bike can be manoeuvred precisely and offers sufficient motor support for steep climbs. However, fans of suspension, high comfort and a smooth ride will probably be slightly disappointed. On the other hand, if you are looking for a longtail bike with basic features and a high level of riding fun or an inexpensive base for a custom cargo bike setup, you will find it in the Fetch+ 2.

Bright red, powerful motor, playful handling but otherwise just offering the most basic features. What sounds like a Ferrari Testarossa is Trek’s cargo bike debut: The Fetch+ 2 is a fun and inexpensive longtail ebike with many add-on options. The equipment is rather minimalistic, but overall solid.

Trek is trying to make Fetch happen with two new electric cargo bikes for families

Trek announced two new electric cargo bikes — Fetch Plus 2 and Fetch Plus 4 — aimed squarely at the growing number of families who are looking to replace a car with a more sustainable mode of transportation.

The two models are pretty distinct from each other. The Fetch Plus 2 is a long-tail cargo bike with an extended rear rack for carrying children, cargo, or a mix of both. And the Fetch Plus 4 is a box bike, also known as a bakfiets, with a long wheelbase and a generous front cargo area. Whether you prefer to have your kids and cargo in the front or the back, Trek has you covered with these two different styles of e-bike.

As e-bike sales continue to grow by leaps and bounds , motorized cargo bikes are becoming especially popular thanks to their unique ability to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. Families with small children, in particular, are turning to e-cargo bikes as a way to replace a second car — or even to go completely car-free . Trek says it saw a unique opportunity to design two new models with those types of customers in mind.

“Kids were the center point of when we first started designing these,” said Eric Bybee, a senior mechanical design engineer at Trek and one of the lead designers on the Fetch Plus models. “We realized that when a family is going out to buy one of these bikes, the kids have to be the focus.”

Like with past e-bike models, Trek is continuing to rely on powertrain systems provided by Bosch, a global auto parts supplier and maker of premium e-bike motors and batteries. Both Fetch Plus models will sport Bosch’s BES3 smart systems, which includes the German company’s Cargo Line brand of 250W motor that puts out 80 newton-meters of torque and can hit a top speed of 20mph (25 km/h).

“Cargo Line was specially developed for in e-cargo bikes,” said Sebastian Baumgartner, product manager at Bosch’s e-bike system. “With it, you can transport loads effortlessly and sustainably from A to B.”

Like with past e-bike models, Trek is continuing to rely on powertrain systems provided by Bosch

On batteries, Trek’s new cargo bikes diverge. The long-tail Fetch Plus 2 features a standard 500Wh battery, while the bakfiets-style Fetch Plus 4 carries a heavier 4.3kg 750Wh battery. And while the Fetch Plus 2 has an optional range extender, the Fetch Plus 4 does not.

As it does with other e-bikes, Trek uses removable integrated batteries, which fit inside the frame of the bike. That’s obvious enough with the Fetch Plus 2, where the battery fits snuggly inside the downtube. But on the Fetch Plus 4, it’s a bit more conspicuous, jutting out slightly from its position in the downtube flush against the back of the cargo box.

The displays in the cockpit are fairly simple but will be familiar to anyone who’s ever ridden a Bosch-powered e-bike. There are five power settings depending on how much assistance you want while riding. And there’s a smartphone grip if riders want to use Bosch’s app for more details about their ride, including distance, time, and speed.

The Fetch Plus models feature other premium parts aside from the Bosch powertrain. The Fetch Plus 4 sports a Gates CDX carbon belt drive paired with an Enviolo Heavy Duty hub for automatic gearing. The Fetch Plus 2 does not include those more expensive parts, featuring instead a 46-tooth chainring and a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain with a wide-range cassette and four-piston hydraulic brakes for confident stopping power.

As for cargo, both bikes can carry relatively heavy loads. The Fetch Plus 2 is rated for 440lbs (200kg), including both the rider and cargo. The Fetch Plus 4’s front box is designed to handle up to 176lbs (20kg) or 60 gallons (230 liters). Space-wise, it can fit two kids, either riding on a bench with safety harnesses or in compatible child seats for the younger ones.

There’s a host of other desirable features, like integrated Abus locks on the rear tire, integrated lightning for safety, kickstands, fenders, and more. There’s a variety of colors for the frame. And there’s a host of interesting accessories, like hard-shell panniers for the front and rear to increase your cargo-carrying ability. But of course, those will cost you extra. As I said before, Trek is casting a wide net with these two bikes, both in terms of flexibility and approachability.

That said, the price may be a limiting factor, but Trek has never squandered on premium parts . When they go on sale in April, the Fetch Plus 2 will retail for $5,999, while the Fetch Plus 4 will sell for a whopping $8,499. That’s significantly more expensive than budget cargo bikes from direct-to-consumer brands like Rad Power Bikes , Aventon, and Lectric . And it’s even pricier than more premium e-bike brands like Tern .

As for cargo, both bikes can carry relatively heavy loads

That may still be too expensive for some customers. But when it comes to cargo bikes, I try not to compare them to other non-electric bikes but, rather, to the car I am trying to replace. Using that rubric, the e-bike is always the cheapest option. And there are fewer recurring costs: no gas, no insurance, and much more affordable maintenance.

On that last point, Trek likes to point out that, unlike the DTC brands, it has a vast network of brick-and-mortar retail shops and licensed repair stores where customers can try before they buy and come in for any tune-ups, flat fixes, and the like. It’s a powerful argument in favor of the legacy manufacturer, especially in light of the number of cheaply made fly-by-night brands that have been flooding the e-bike market in recent years.

Update February 16th 4:44PM ET: Trek’s electric cargo bikes go on sale in April. The company originally said March 3rd but has since pushed that back.

Wisconsin-based bicycle maker Trek has just launched its latest two electric bikes, which are both designed as kid and cargo movers. The new Trek Fetch Plus 2 and Trek Fetch Plus 4 mark Trek’s deepest dive into the cargo e-bike segment yet.

Family-friendly cargo e-bikes

The two e-bikes carry distinct designs, with the Trek Fetch Plus 2 rolling out as a longtail cargo bike and the Trek Fetch Plus 4 taking on less common front loader cargo bike layout.

Long tail cargo bikes have a stretched wheel base with extra space between the rider and rear wheel. Front loader cargo bikes, sometimes referred to by their Dutch name bakfiets, have a long platform or box in a stretched space between the rider and front wheel.

Both categories are becoming increasingly common and we’ve seen dozens of examples from various companies in the past couple years.

But this time it’s Trek that is hankering for a slice of the cargo e-bike pie as the company puts it’s own spin on the two popular e-bike categories.

Trek Fetch Plus 2

The Trek Fetch Plus 2 will use Bosch’s BES3 smart system with the company’s cargo-specific mid-drive motor lineup. Those motors are rated for a continuous 250W of power, though their 80 Nm torque rating betrays the true higher power of the drive system.

The motors are usually limited to 20 mph (32 km/h) in the US, and the throttle-less design keeps them squarely in the Class 1 e-bike designation.

The Fetch Plus 2 includes Bosch’s 500Wh battery that mounts in the downtube and is removable for charging. That battery is a bit below average capacity for e-bikes in the US, but should still offer plenty of range thanks to the efficient pedal-assist setup of the Bosch drive system. An optional range extender battery will be available for those that want to carry more than 500Wh of battery with them.

The bike is rated for a combined operator-and-passenger payload capacity of 200 kg (440 lb). That puts it in competition with other heavy-hauling electric cargo bikes like the Tern GSD , though it carries a higher entry price.

The Fetch Plus 2 will go on sale in April of this year with an MSRP of US $5,999.

Trek Fetch Plus 4

If you thought the Fetch Plus 2 was pricey, wait until you check out the $8,999 Fetch Plus 4.

The bike uses a similar drivetrain but swaps in a 750 Wh battery. That higher capacity battery is better suited to the heavier Fetch Plus 4, especially considering the obvious kid-carrying front bucket will likely be occupied much of the time.

That’s a big part of the draw, as Trek’s designer Eric Bybee explained :

Kids were the center point of when we first started designing these. We realized that when a family is going out to buy one of these bikes, the kids have to be the focus.

The Fetch Plus 4 includes a high-end transmission using a Gates Carbon Drive belt-drive system paired with an automatic shifting Enviolo hub in the rear wheel. That’s a fairly significant upgrade over the Fetch Plus 2’s 10-speed Shimano Deore transmission, though even that chain drive setup is nicer than we see on many other cargo e-bikes . Both models carry four-piston hydraulic disc brakes – another nod towards their heavy weight ratings.

While the Fetch Plus 2 looks similar to several other longtail cargo e-bikes we’ve tested before , the Fetch Plus 4 draws from a more European vibe seen in higher end cargo e-bikes like those from Urban Arrow, Riese and Müller, and others.

The Trek FX+ 2 feels like a bike. Trek has definitely made an effort for this city-focused eBike to look and feel like a bike as much as possible and in that effort, it succeeded. The FX+ 2 felt like riding a traditional bicycle until you really turn on the pedal assist, and even then it still largely kept that feel. At around 40 pounds, it also is closer in weight to a traditional bicycle, at least compared to the competition. I was able to get it up and down stairs without breaking a sweat, which was convenient.

For all these successes, the $2,399 FX+2 is significantly more expensive than our best budget electric bike , t he Aventon Soltera ($1,399) or our best overall electric bike , t he Rad Power RadCity 5 Plus ($1,999). This despite the FX+ 2 having no throttle, no LCD display and no removable battery. As enjoyable as riding it may be — and it is — it’s tough to recommend it over the competition.  

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Price and availability 

The Trek FX+ 2 came out in May 2022 at a starting price of $2,200, but the version we reviewed came with a price tag of $2,399. Unfortunately, it looks like the price has gone up since launch, with the 2023 models of the FX+ 2 coming in at $2,499 on Trek’s website.

The good news is that you are not forced to buy the FX+ 2 from Trek. Trek offers its bikes through local retailers in addition to its website, and those retailers may offer lower (or higher) prices than Trek. So make sure to check with your local bike shop before adding the FX+ 2 to your cart.

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Design 

Trek offers the FX+ 2 eBike in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) and three colors: Satin Trek Black, Viper Red and Satin Mulsanne Blue. The model I was provided with was a Satin Mulsanne blue in size L, which worked perfectly with my 6-foot 2-inch height and 32-inch inseam.

At first glance, the FX+ 2 looks like a traditional bicycle. That’s because Trek has intentionally designed it this way, with the cables and battery stored within the tubes of the bike. Unfortunately, that means the battery isn’t removable — at least by you. Trek says that the battery can be removed by a trained technician, so you’ll need to head to a shop if anything goes wrong. 

That said, you can still add an external battery for extra range. There are two water bottle holders, one on the seat tube and one on the down tube, and the one on the downtube allows for a 250Wh plug-and-play Range Extender battery. This allows you to easily double your range if needed. That battery life comes at a price though; the Hyena Range Extender Battery costs $499.

Designed for commuters and city bikers, the FX+ 2 comes already equipped with some much-needed accessories. The eBike comes stock with a front fender, rear fender, headlight, taillight, kickstand, bell and rear bike rack — no need to buy one of the best bike lights separately. There’s also a chain guard to prevent clothes from getting caught in the chain.

Still, there are a couple of things missing in the design that would be nice to have. First, the Hyena pedal assist control system has an LED display for the battery status and pedal assist mode. It is easy to use and read, but many eBikes now have LCD displays, so this feels cheap by comparison. Additionally, the wheels are not quick-release, which means if something goes wrong you’ll need tools on you to get the wheels off.

But the biggest design flaw is the lack of any shock absorption in the bike. The FX+ 2 definitely feels every bump and pothole, especially at top speed. Even merely adding a seat post shock absorber would be a welcome addition.

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Performance 

The performance of the Trek FX+ 2 was more than adequate. Between the three power modes (Eco, Normal and Turbo) and the nine-speed rear cassette, I was able to hit the top speed of 20 mph frequently, regularly averaging 13MPH while riding through the streets of Atlanta.

Hills were also not a problem once you get a feel for the bike. I could regularly keep my cadence going up hills by using the full range of the bike’s gears and the Turbo pedal assist mode. The pedal assist modes kicked in very smoothly and with almost no lag.

The only shortcoming the FX+ 2 really has in terms of performance is the lack of a throttle to give riders fully motor-assisted thrust (i.e. no using your pedals), which does come on some of the FX+ 2’s competitors like the Soltera and RadCity 5 Plus. However, I would be lying if I said I missed it. The bike is plenty quick and easy to ride without it. 

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Battery life and range 

Trek states that the FX+ 2’s 250Wh battery can provide riders with up to 35 minutes of range. This of course depends on a range of factors, from the pedal assist mode you typically use to how hilly your terrain is.

My commute to work was just over five and a half miles round trip and I would go through about a quarter of the battery. That puts my estimated range at closer to 22 miles. However, I almost always used the Turbo (highest) pedal assist and I do have a large hill each way. So had I been more conservative I could have probably got more range out of the FX+ 2. 

Luckily if you do need to charge the bike, it only takes around two hours for a full charge and the charger can be plugged into any wall outlet.

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Competition 

Unfortunately, the Trek FX+ 2 really struggles when compared to the competition, at least on paper. I have yet to ride the Aventon Soltera, but it is currently our best budget eBike and has a very similar feature set and design aesthetic compared to the FX+ 2. While the pedal-assist seems like it is not as smooth and responsive as the FX+ 2 and it lacks a 9-speed option, you can still get a 7-speed for $1,399. That’s $1,000 less than the FX+ 2 I reviewed, but you get more range, a throttle and an LCD display.

If you want something higher-end, the Rad Power RadCity5 Plus is our best budget bike and would still be my pick over the FX+ 2 based on the research I have done on the RadCity 5 Plus. The FX+ 2 is lighter, and significantly so (over 20 pounds!), but the RadCity 5 Plus has a feature set that really sets it apart. Yes, you only get a 7-speed rear cassette, but you also get a throttle, a removable battery and two LCD displays compared to the zero LCD displays on the FX+ 2.

Trek FX+ 2 eBike review: Bottom line 

Ultimately, if the Trek FX+ 2 eBike was cheaper it would be a lot easier to recommend. It was a lot of fun to ride, easy to carry with its 40-pound weight and has a very clean design. If price weren’t a factor, I would say the quick pedal assist make it a great choice, and the fact that it comes with fenders and a rack standard is a nice touch.

But none of that can make me get past the fact that this bike is hundreds — if not a thousand — dollars more than its competition without providing a lot of reasons why. Yes, it's lightweight, and it's a Trek so the build quality is excellent, but it lacks the LCD displays, removable battery or throttle that so many of the best electric bikes have. If the FX+ 2 had even some of those features, I’d rate it significantly higher, even with the price.

If you came to me and said, “I want an electric bike, and I've never ridden one before,” I would consider a few items. You probably don't want a 65-pound direct-to-consumer behemoth that will crush you at a standstill or require you to learn how to tune hydraulic brakes. At a mere 40 pounds, the Trek FX+ 2 ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is a relatively lightweight, aluminum city commuter made by a company with a wide network of retailers who can help you if things go awry. I've been testing electric bikes for years, and this is the first and only bike my dad, who is in his sixties, grabs to chase after my kids.

Before you murder me, I have to say that if you like mountain biking, $5,500 is not an insane price to pay for a superlight bike with full suspension—even without an electric motor. Trek is offering a few models for sale. This is the most affordable version; the quality of the components increases as you go higher on the price scale. However, this one has a carbon frame with a quiet motor and the same specs as the model I tested. The modest 250-watt motor is just enough to keep up with your friends on the uphills so you can all enjoy the downhills together.

If you've dug your helmet out of the garage and discovered that the foam has all quietly rotted away during the winter, you need a new one. This is a modestly priced helmet by Bontrager, which Trek owns. It features MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System), which allows the helmet to slide relative to the brain and deflect impact.

Season two of Mauricio’s Netflix reality series , Buying Beverly Hills , also doesn’t reveal too much, but it does provide insight into the effect that it has had on the family. It also focuses on the small rift between Mauricio and Rick Hilton , as Mauricio left Hilton and Hyland to form The Agency after being overlooked by Rick when he wanted to advance in the company.

The series preview even caused some controversy, as he mentions the rift in a preview scene. Paris Hilton took to X , formerly known as Twitter, to defend her father’s honor , referring to him as a consummate professional. She also posted a comment on a Bravo fan page that has since been deleted, saying that they use the Hilton name for attention. Mauricio took everything in stride, however, and said there is no bad blood on his end, as he looked at the situation purely from a business perspective.

Buying Beverly Hills focuses on Mauricio’s business, The Agency , a boutique real estate brokerage company. The series follows Mauricio as he heads the company and features daughters Farrah Brittany, Alexia, and Sophia Umansky. Farrah has worked for The Agency the longest, and Alexia joined the Umansky Team shortly after. Season two marks Sophia’s first year on the team, following her journey as she learns the ropes.

The new season touches both on familial issues and interpersonal issues within the workplace. The series also features several of the other realty teams working under The Agency, and the majority of season one’s cast has returned. Between ex-boyfriends, fiancés, disrespectful social media moves, and the dreaded word nepotism, season two has a lot to offer its fans. Collider had the opportunity to speak with Mauricio, Farrah, Alexia, and Sophia about the new season , as well as their thoughts on some of the more controversial topics touched on in the second season.

The issue arises, however, from a surprising source. When asked about their thoughts on the issue, they each shared their varying, albeit generally the same, opinions on the topic. Farrah said, “ We’ve never denied the opportunities and advantages that we have by being Mauricio's daughters and the company . But if I know what you're referring to, nobody said that we're trying to take over the agency. No one said he was going anywhere. That was, I think, a little projecting much.”

'Buying Beverly Hills' Is Giving What 'RHOBH' Fans Wanted From Season 13

Alexia added on to this, saying, “I was always a little afraid of [nepotism accusations], you know? ‘Of course, she took this opportunity. Of course, it's so easy. And something that I talked through in therapy is, sometimes, it's not always about how you got it, but it's about what you do with it. And that's just my motto every day. And I just always just try really hard to prove myself. I use, I use that nepotism piece pressure to prove myself even more. And I only expect to go where I deserve to go.” Sophia had a much simpler and matter-of-fact response, saying, “I think the whole nepotism thing is stupid. Like, if I want to be in real estate, if I'm interested in real estate, and my dad is Mauricio, obviously, I'm going to take that opportunity.” And her statement is the truth; if anyone had an easy way into an industry through their loved ones, who wouldn’t take it?

What matters, as Alexia pointed out , is what you do with it. Mauricio also focuses on their talents and personal growth in the industry . The situation that arises during the season that revolves around nepotism hones in on that, as the person who made the accusations also belittled Alexia when attempting to “mentor” her, having her work on things that she has already surpassed. Despite the patronizing attitude of her new mentor, Alexia did her part to be respectful, only to hear the accusations her mentor made later. Nepotism or not, the second season of Buying Beverly Hills seems to have a theme of rising above anything petty that might drag someone down. The second episode of the Star Trek: Discovery 's final season sees Saru face his final mission as Captain Burnham's Number One , as the team ventures to a seemingly abandoned planet to hunt for what might be the greatest treasure in the whole galaxy. But like with everything in this twisty sci-fi thriller, not everything goes according to plan.

Star Trek Discoverys Non-Binary Character Is Essential Representation

Episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is titled "Under The Twin Moons" and it's one of the best episodes so far . It begins with Captain Michael Burnham considering philosophical questions about the meaning of life as Discovery gets all the sand from Q’Mau removed. She ponders the possibility of a new purpose as the stakes of her new mission to find the Progenitors’ power take their toll on her.

Before they head off to find the next clue, Burnham is summoned to a tribunal for Rayner, who is called to the space carpet due to his reckless actions. Burnham doesn’t want to be a snitch, but when she is pressed on the matter, she admits she disagreed with Rayner and told him exactly that. Admiral Vance and President Rillak aren't happy, and once Rayner accuses them of ignoring potential threats, his future in Starfleet is not looking too promising.

Elsewhere, Vance checks in with Burnham to make sure Book isn’t being a distraction. Turns out, he is to work with Hugh and Paul to sort out clues left behind by Dr. Vellek.

Adira and Tilly brief Burnham and Saru on how the shadow of the twin moons points to an old Promellian necropolis, but an energy field means they will have to move from the beam-in spot.

With an emotional goodbye on the horizon, Burnham and Saru acknowledge their last mission together and head to the biggest pyramid. Saru offers advice on his replacement as first officer, with the suggestion that Burnham find someone who stands their ground, not unlike Book. A spike in the EM field makes Tilly concerned, but Burnham re-assures her there is nothing to worry about, but at this point, killer drones emerge from a giant collapsed four-eyed alien statue's head, forcing them to run.

On the Disco, Adira and Tilly struggle over how to help the landing party, now hiding under a giant stone foot as the drones fire and blow up on suicide runs. Rayner holograms himself into the situation and guides them towards a solution that factors in how the ancient Promellians would power an automated security system.

They overload a phaser inside the giant statue's head, and Burnham offers to take the job of target distraction, but Saru reminds her he is stronger and faster. He dodges fire and dispatches the drones with his quills. Burnham then drops the bomb, which buys them some time.

Burnham and Saru are under a ticking clock before the drones power up again as they arrive at where the clues pointed with no ancient power source to be found. Saru detects traces of writing in the form of a Romulan poem, so Burnham uses her powers to determine the existence of only four verses on the pillar, but where is the fifth?

They find the final verse under the pillar, and they beam out at the last second before the EM defense field restarts . In the science lab, it turns out the thing they found matches a mysterious symbol from the diary. They now have the first of five pieces of a map that will lead them to the Progenitors.

Burnham checks in with Vance, who tells her the day’s mission was a success. As for Rayner, he has been asked to retire. Burnham defends his actions and has an idea of sorts. Burnham finds him staring longingly at her ship, and he states he isn't willing to back down from his principles, but he regrets not anticipating what Moll and L’ak did on Q’Mau, which resulted in all those people being put at risk. Burnham offers him a lifeline as her new XO. She’s impressed with how he helped out on the Lyrek mission and figures he deserves a second chance. He announces that he won’t be a “yes man,” and she doesn't want him to be.

The ending of Star Trek: Discovery 's exhilarating season 5 premiere dropped a jaw-dropping bombshell that the treasure Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is hunting for comes from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, episode 20, "The Chase." Written by Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, Discovery 's season 5 premiere, "Red Directive," introduces three new major characters, the villains Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis), and Starfleet Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie), and sets up Discovery season 5 as a sequel to the classic TNG episode about who created humanoid life in the galaxy - and how .

Moll and L'ak escaped the clutches of Captain Burnham, Captain Rayner, and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) on the desert world of Q'Mau. After a synthetic merchant named Fred (J. Adam Brown) opened a Romulan puzzle box Moll and L'ak stole from an 800-year-old Romulan starship , Fred double-crossed Moll and L'ak and was killed by the renegade lovers. L'ak and Moll then detonated an explosive in the mountains, creating an avalanche. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, President T'Rina (Tara Rosling) said the Tholian Republic and the Breen Imperium are rising, and they could be looking for the Progenitors' technology.

Moll & L'ak Keep Escaping, But Who Are They?

Star Trek: Discovery season 5's version of Bonnie and Clyde, the villainous Moll and L'ak are mysterious former couriers who have had several past encounters with Captain Rayner of the USS Antares. Moll is human but L'ak is an unknown species with no known information in the Federation database. They are also hired guns, so they must have an employer yet to be revealed.

While little is revealed about Moll and L'ak, what is clear is they are lovers with deep affection for each other. Cleveland Booker doesn't know Moll and L'ak from his years as a courier, but he could tell by the way they escaped from the USS Discovery and USS Antares that L'ak and Moll are in love and are having fun together. In a way, Moll and L'ak are an echo of what Book and Michael Burnham were like when they were couriers traveling the galaxy together in the year before the USS Discovery arrived in the 32nd century.

Saru Will Become A Federation Ambassador & Marry T'Rina

Wedding bells are coming to star trek: discovery..

Captain Saru accepts Federation President Laira Rillak's (Chelah Horsdal) offer to become a Federation Ambassador. Saru has been serving as First Officer of the USS Discovery despite his higher rank since Star Trek: Discovery season 4, but being Captain Burnham's Number One is not really a role that utilizes the Kelpien's skills and potential. Saru also chose to leave Discovery and become an Ambassador to be closer to his love, President T'Rina.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will soon have the first Kelpien-Vulcan wedding and the first wedding between 2 major Star Trek characters in 22 years.

Originally, T'Rina told Saru not to factor her into his decision to take the Ambassador position, but she actually wanted Saru to leave Discovery, which would allow them to spend more time together. And T'rina went a step further and proposed to Saru in a very Vulcan-like fashion, suggesting they "codify our mutual agreement in a more official capacity". Saru seemed to say yes, which means Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will soon have the first Kelpien-Vulcan wedding and the first wedding between 2 major Star Trek characters in 22 years since Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) married Deanna Tro i (Marina Sirtis) in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Burnham & Book Are Still Broken Up

They should have called each other..

Star Trek: Discovery 's top love story, Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker , didn't quite heat up in season 5's premiere. Burnham and Book have been separated (but with no hard feelings) ever since Book commenced his penance for the Federation after breaking multiple laws to destroy the Dark Matter Anomaly in Star Trek: Discovery season 4. Burnham turned to Book for his courier expertise to help her catch Moll and L'ak , and if she's honest, because she wanted to see Book again.

Michael and Book agreed not to restart their relationship.

Book remains penitent and is committed to righting his wrongs with the Federation and with Michael, but there is now an understandable awkwardness between them. Book has a role to play on the USS Discovery as long as Moll and L'ak are at large , but on Kumal, Michael and Book agreed not to restart their relationship. However, this isn't the end of Burnham and Booker's love story, and it's hard to imagine they won't get back together at some point in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Captain Rayner Is No Fan Of Burnham

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 introduced Callum Keith Rennie's Captain Rayner of the USS Antares as a new series regular character, and he brings a new dynamic to the show. Gruff, impatient, and no-nonsense, Rayner evokes previous hardliner Star Trek Captains like Captain Edward Jellico (Ronny Cox) in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Rayner is also resentful of Captain Burnham for some reason , and he finds humor in mocking Michael, asserting his command authority, and countermanding her orders.

Rayner seems jealous of the USS Discovery's spore drive, and he mentions his displeasure that he doesn't have a Pathway Drive on the USS Antares.

Although it wasn't mentioned or factored into Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, Captain Rayner is a Kellerun , a species first introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 2's "Armageddon Game". Rayner's interest in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is fulfilling his Red Directive mission objective, which is retrieving the treasure, as well as capturing Moll and L'ak, whom he has tangled with before. There is plenty more to learn about Captain Rayner in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery Now Has Their Own Data

Fred obviously evokes the most famous Soong android, Data (Brent Spiner), which is another link between Star Trek: Discovery season 5 and Star Trek: The Next Generation , L'ak and Moll killed Fred after he double-crossed them, but after Fred's body was beamed onto the USS Discovery's medical bay, Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) determined from his serial number, AS-7502Y, that Fred was built from the design of Dr. Altan Inigo Soong (Brent Spiner) from Star Trek: Picard .

In Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, Stamets lamented the Federation's scuttling the spore drive program in favor of the Pathway Drive . Although Fred was "killed", it's possible Stamets and his husband, Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), can reactivate Fred. The 600-plus-year-old android may contain other secrets and answer many questions about events between Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery 's era. There are intriguing possibilities for Fred in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 , and it would be odd if Fred really is dead after his lone appearance.

The USS Discovery is now "one of a kind" since it has the only working spore drive in existence.

The Next Clue In Discovery's Treasure Hunt

The USS Discovery's next stop on the treasure hunt in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons," is Lyrek, a planet in the Vileen system, on the outer sector of the Beta Quadrant, that has 3 moons, 2 of which move in perfect sync. Captain Burnham figured this out after seeing images of Dr. Vellek's Romulan diary pages retrieved from Fred's database. One of the pages had a circular image which could be a literal treasure map, and the clues point to the Vileen system and the planet with twin moons . What Burnham will find on Lyrek remains to be seen in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, but the chase is on to answer one of the biggest questions left behind by Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The two tower of the 'Village' are great, but all the designs of the Medical Center are terrible.

The medical centre looks like a bunch of Quality St boxes stacked next to eachother, not good at all!  

those are nice projects but I don't like The Medical one.

Mirax is planning to build it on the bank of Moscow-river on west of Moscow. There are two different versions currently considering by Mirax. First is tower over 70 storeys tall and second with less than 70 storeys.  

i would have thought those 3 hospital towers would be linked by skybridges to make it easier to move patients around as for the towers themselves, they're not briliant but they're not bad either i like the other 2 projects more though  

I'll withhold judgement on the three medical centre towers until I can see a better render.  

some news, shortly Inteko announced project of business complex on west of Moscow. Setun' Hills is 24 hectares area where will be build 570 thousand sq m business center. This project estimated in $700-800mln. It was presented on MIPIM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RIGroup announced project of 100 thous sq m business complex near Krokus-City in Myakineno (main business center of moscow province on 66-68 kilometers of MKAD freeway, so called Moscovia-City. at least 1mln of sq m). Esitimated cost is $100mln ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Owners of WBD foodstuffs company announced project of business complex in Big City on territory of 4th moscow milling factory. Buying and moving factory to another placed costed them $100mln. Project of 1mln sq m business complex is estimated in $1bln. And in $1,5-2bln if with highrise construction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Development investments in Moscow reached $25,2bln in 2005. It is 64,4% more than in 2004.  

The towers of the medical center have the really nice look and I don't understand why the other guys don't like it  

I really like the village development. it is amazing, how many towers are currently going up or being planned in moscow. no other city in europe can beat that.

Coth are those 3 medical buildings going to be hospitals, If so I think they are going to be the highest hospital buildings in the world ?  

Yes, possibly will be tallest if will be built. But i'm not sure this design is taller of 143 meters. However, only 37 thous out of 190 thous sq m will be for medical usage. Other will be rehabilitation center, recreation zone, kindergarten and apartments.

The new scans help to understand better the project of the business centre and to consider better its basic details and advantages, but it would be desirable to learn more about the project Thanx for the scans coth…
