Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s Grand Tour Tenure Is Coming to an End

The Grand Tour’s end comes just weeks after the BBC indefinitely shut down Top Gear.

The old Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May will be hitting your screen as the hosts of The Grand Tour for the final time in 2024. The two final episodes have now been filmed, taking place in Mauritania and Zimbabwe, where the trio we've grown to love will close a chapter that's been three decades in the making.

“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I won’t be doing that any more," Clarkson told The Times .

Since The Grand Tour launched in 2016, after Clarkson was fired from Top Gear for punching a producer, it's gone through several changes. First, it was essentially a Top Gear recreation, with celebrity interviews and an in-studio live show. Then they tightened it up by ditching the celebrity stuff. Eventually, they ditched the live show altogether and just made feature-length specials. And while none of The Grand Tour's iterations managed to capture the magic of Top Gear at its best , it was still one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime . Millions of people tuned in to watch the automotive equivalent of the Three Stooges (and I mean that as a grand compliment).

Getty

All three hosts have their own projects to pursue outside of The Grand Tour anyway. Clarkson has his farm show and May has a travel show, both of which are also on Amazon Prime , while Hammond still does a lot of work for DriveTribe , while also presenting other TV programs. So they'll still be around, even though The Grand Tour won't be.

This news also comes just a couple of weeks after the BBC decided to indefinitely shut down Top Gear . After host Freddie Flintoff's accident during filming and the subsequent settlement, the BBC decided against renewing the show. Clarkson doesn't blame the most recent trio of Top Gear hosts for not wanting to return, either, specifically Flintoff.

"Richard Hammond was always keen to get back to work [following a crash], whereas Freddie isn’t," Clarkson told The Sun . "I don’t blame him. I know what happened on that awful day and it was horrific."

Getty

Clarkson even said that anyone who wants to take over in Flintoff's spot would come across as "heartless."

In a matter of weeks, the world learned that the two most entertaining car shows on TV are shutting down. We all knew this day was coming soon, as the original Top Gear gang are all either in their sixties or getting quite close, but it's still a little sad to see them go. Sure, their most recent work pales in comparison to the shows from their prime but, like most millennial car nerds, Clarkson, Hammond, and May made an indelible impression on me and the way I look at cars, and I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. Thanks for the memories, chaps.

(CNN) — After more than 50 years The Eagles are heading on the road for what they say will be their “final” tour.

On Thursday the legendary band announced “The Long Goodbye” tour that is set to kick off September 7 in New York.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” the band said in a statement shared with CNN.

“We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful,” the statement also said. “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.”

The Eagles’ longtime friends and fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Steely Dan, will open for the “Hotel California” music makers.

According to the statement, Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey “will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands.”

The initial 13 tour stops were announced Thursday and will include Boston, Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver and other cities, culminating in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday, November 17.

Presale tickets and VIP packages for the Live Nation-produced concerts will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, July 12, for all the announced shows, while the general on-sale will start 10 a.m. local time on Friday, July 14.

The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

ABOUT JOURNEY

Since the group's formation in 1973, JOURNEY has earned 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold over 100 million albums globally. Their "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times-platinum, making JOURNEY one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and their song "Don't Stop Believin'" has been streamed over one billion times alone.

JOURNEY was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, and 2018's co-headlining tour with DEF LEPPARD was the band's most successful tour to date, landing them in the Top 10 year-end touring chart with more than 1 million tickets sold, and earning them the prestigious Billboard "Legends Of Live" touring award. March 2019 saw the release of "Escape & Frontiers Live In Japan", a live DVD/CD set from their concert at the Budokan in Tokyo featuring the band's first-ever performances of the albums "Escape" and "Frontiers" in their entirety. JOURNEY has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame. Additionally, the band is the subject of the award-winning documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the band's resurgence upon adding Arnel Pineda as lead singer after JOURNEY Founder, Neal Schon discovered the Philippines native on YouTube.

The members of TOTO are celebrating an accomplishment few bands have achieved in the modern era. Cumulative streams of the ensemble’s repertoire

now exceed 3 billion plays. Amongst the most listened to recordings, “Africa” accounts for over one billion streams at Spotify alone. This year the song was recertified by the RIAA 8X Platinum.

Over the past decade, the band has had a major renaissance in popularity like few bands at this point in their career. The audience is truly multi-generational, becoming younger with each passing year. Joining Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams are band members bassist John Pierce (Huey Lewis and The News), drummer Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note, Founding member Snarky Puppy, Snoop Dogg), keyboardist Dominique “Xavier” Taplin (Prince, Ghost-Note), multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Warren Ham (Ringo Starr) and keyboardist / background vocalist Steve Maggiora,. This line-up marks the fifteenth incarnation of Toto in consideration of band members or sidemen who joined or exited. Individually and collectively, few have had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. The family tree can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a half a billion albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with hundreds of Grammy nominations.

With now 45+ years together and literally thousands of credits, including the biggest selling album of all time: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and accolades to their names, TOTO remains one of the top selling touring and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility. They are pop culture and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles continuing to remain relevant.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond Shoot Final Episode of The Grand Tour

After seven years on Amazon Prime, the beloved motoring show will end with the final special filmed in Zimbabwe.

clarkson, hammond, and may

The trio has been together for twenty years. In 2003, they worked together as presenters on the hit show Top Gear. In 2015, Clarkson left the show after getting into a physical altercation with a producer. In 2016, the group reunited for The Grand Tour. In 2019, after the first three seasons, the format of the show changed from a weekly program to a series of specials. About two feature-length specials were released each year. Now, those are set to end.

This has been a tough month for fans of both The Grand Tour and Top Gear. It was recently announced that Top Gear would also not return for the foreseeable future.

In an appearance on the Today Podcast last week, May said he felt it was time for Top Gear to try something new.

"My honest view is—I can say this now—it does need a bit of a rethink," May said. "It's time for a new format and a new approach to the subject because the subject has not been this interesting, I suspect, since the car has been invented."

Thankfully, fans of Clarkson, May, and Hammond can still get their fix with other shows. Clarkson has the popular Clarkson's Farm series which will have at least two more seasons. And May has his Our Man In... series. Still, the end of The Grand Tour marks the end of an era in automotive entertainment.

Legendary Grand Funk Railroad Selects Van Wert For Anniversary Tour

By news submissions • april 21, 2023.

legendary grand tour 2023

Van Wert Federal Savings Bank presents classic rock sensation, Grand Funk Railroad at The Niswonger on Saturday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. This Van Wert Live event will be a stop on the 2023 American Band Tour. After playing to millions of fans on the band’s tours from 1996 to 2022, Grand Funk’s 2023 American Band Tour will continue to reach both new and long-time fans. The supporting sponsor for the Van Wert tour stop is Westwood Behavioral Health.

Known as “The American Band”, the high-energy five-piece group will play forty shows all over the USA this year. Grand Funk Railroad includes original founding members Don Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, We’re An American Band) and bassist Mel Schacher, “The God Of Thunder”. Joining Don and Mel are true “All Stars”. Singer Max Carl is a rock veteran from 38 Special. Max penned and sang 38’s biggest hit “Second Chance” and was co-founder of California’s legendary Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. Don refers to Max as “the best blue-eyed soul singer on the planet”. Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick is best known for his 12 years with KISS and has credits with Michael Bolton, Meatloaf, and Billy Squier. (KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were influenced early on by Grand Funk.) Keyboardist Tim Cashion has a master’s degree in music from the University of Miami. Affectionately called “Dr. Tim”, his credits include stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and English soul man Robert Palmer.

Grand Funk laid the groundwork for such bands as Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen and Bon Jovi with its signature hard-driving sound, soulful vocals, muscular instrumentation, and forceful pop melodies. The fact that Grand Funk’s legacy still reigns over the Classic Rock landscape fifty years after its 1969 birth in Flint, Michigan is a testament to the group’s influence and staying power. Mega-hits We’re An American Band, I’m Your Captain/Closer To Home, Locomotion and Some Kind Of Wonderful still receive continuous airplay on Classic Rock radio. Internationally acclaimed Grand Funk has toured the world, selling out in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan and South America. A 1971 performance at New York’s Shea Stadium sold out faster than the Beatles. The group’s widespread appeal is also evident in its prestigious recording achievements. Over their career, Grand Funk has had 19 charted singles, 8 Top 40 hits, and two Number One singles (We’re An American Band and Locomotion, both selling more than one million each). The group has now accumulated 13 gold and 10 platinum records with record sales exceeding 25 million copies sold worldwide. The most recent gold CD award was presented to the band for their greatest hits package Grand Funk Railroad the Collectors Series.

The multi-talented band carries on the tradition of Grand Funk hits and creates a new chapter in the legacy of Grand Funk Railroad. THE AMERICAN BAND TOUR 2023, brings seasoned Grand Funk lovers and contemporary rock fans who are discovering the group for the first time together to celebrate the 50th ANNIVERSARY with Grand Funk Railroad.

Music | inflation eases in bay area — a tiny bit — but electricity costs rocket higher, music | review: legendary rock act kicks off 50th anniversary tour in grand style, devo also performs nov. 5 and 14 at golden gate theatre.

The music kept right on building, growing more intense and fierce with each passing second, as the players onstage pushed both themselves and their instruments. Then, right as the music was hitting an absurdly towering peak, Mark Mothersbaugh tore into the words of “Gut Feeling”:

“Something about the way you taste, makes me wanna clear my throat,” the Devo vocalist belted out as the crowd pulsed sharply in rhythm with the music. “There’s a message to your movements that really gets my goat.”

Um, wow. Really? This is what 50 looks like for Devo? Because the band — which got its start in 1973 and is currently celebrating a half-century of making music — showed on Thursday night at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium that it can still rock with the best of them.

It was opening night of the North American leg of the Devo’s 50 Years of De-Evolution tour , which also includes dates on Sunday (Nov. 5) and Nov. 14 at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco. The band is supporting the newly released career retrospective “50 Years of De-Evolution,” which is available at Rhino.com .

It’s a tour that precisely underscores why Devo so justly deserves to be enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, serving up a career-spanning selection of innovative and influential songs that have weathered the decades incredibly well.

The band kicked off the show in (relatively) recent fashion, drawing from their last full-length studio album — 2010’s Something for Everybody” — for a solid version of “Don’t Shoot (I’m a Man).” From there, things would only get better as the band continued through 16 more tunes in a neat, tidy and joyous set that clocked in at just under 90 minutes.

The group — which currently consists of Mothersbaugh, vocalist-guitarist-keyboardist Gerald Casale , guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh, drummer Jeff Friedl and guitarist-keyboardist Josh Hager — kept right on fashioning punk, synth-pop, art-rock and new wave into that signature Devo sound as it touched upon such winners as “Going Under” (from 1981’s “New Traditionalists”) and “That’s Good” (from 1982’s “Oh, No! It’s Devo”).

Of course, the cell phones came out to capture the band’s performance of its most-famous song, “Whip It,” the Side 1 standout from 1980’s “Freedom of Choice” album that resulted in Devo’s sole gold-certified hit single.

“Whip It” sounded great, yet it hardly stood out from the pack as Devo just kept right on illustrating the depth, breadth and quality of its songbook. The concert got even better as the band moved on from its synth-oriented material (such as “Whip It”) and charged right into the more guitar-focused rockin’ cuts like the band’s terrific covers of the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and the Johnny Rivers favorite “Secret Agent Man.”

The group closed the main set with a triumphant take on “Gates of Steel” and then returned for an encore highlighted by an incredibly high-octane version of “Gut Feeling.”

“After all that noisy, aggressive, assaultive stuff, I think it’s time for Devo to do something beautiful,” said Casale, who splits his time between Santa Monica and Napa .

Naturally, that led into the encore-closing “Beautiful World” — which was sung by the mysterious masked Devo-character known as “Booji Boy.” (Not sure who was under that mask, but it’s probably worth pointing out — and I’m sure it’s just a coincidence — that Mark Mothersbaugh was nowhere to be seen while Booji Boy was onstage.)

Booji would get the last word of the evening, as he looked forward — way, way forward — to a time when the band and crowd might celebrate another milestone occasion.

“I want to see you all here in 2073 for the Devo 100 year anniversary,” he said as the encore segment drew to a close.

Legendary jam band set to return to Grand Rapids after 26 years

 • Published: Feb. 27, 2024, 2:35 p.m.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Legendary jam band Phish will make its third appearance at Van Andel Arena and first since 1998 when the “band from Vermont” comes to Grand Rapids for two nights this August.

The band, fronted by guitarist Trey Anastasio, announced on its website Tuesday that it will perform at the arena on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The quartet last played at Van Andel on Nov. 11, 1998, according to information provided on phish.net . They also played the venue on the same date in 1996.

Prior to that, the band, known for its extended jams and large, faithful following, previously played once each at DeVos Hall and Eastbrook Theatre.

While the band hasn’t been to Grand Rapids in 26 years, Anastasio recently made a solo stop at Meijer Gardens in 2022. After a second solo gig at Interlochen a night later, he returned to Michigan later that summer with the band for a date at Pine Knob.

Since 1999, the band has only played Michigan four times, appearing at Cobo Hall in 2009 and three times at Pine Knob, including the 2022 tour stop.

Phish, which just wrapped up an all-inclusive festival in Mexico, announced a 26-date summer tour early Tuesday afternoon. The two nights in Grand Rapids are the only in Michigan.

The tour starts July 19 in Massachusetts and concludes with the band’s traditional Labor Day Weekend run in Colorado. Other stops near Michigan include three nights, July 26 to 28 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin and three nights, from Aug. 2 to 4 at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana.

The band, which also includes Page McConnell on keys, Jon Fishman on drums and Mike Gordon on bass, is known for having played Madison Square Garden 83 times over the course of its career.

They are also slated to be the second band ever to play the new Sphere in Las Vegas this April.

Tickets for the Van Andel shows will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15. A ticket request period is currently underway at https://tickets.phish.com , ending at noon, Monday, March 11.

The 27-date tour is set to kick off on July 5th, 2024 in Bonner, MT and continue to Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario throughout the remainder of the month. After rounding out the month of July with a stop in Lewiston, NY (7/30), Slash and the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. crew will slither into August with shows at Boston, MA’s Leader Bank Pavilion (8/1), New York, NY’s Pier 17 (8/4), Bethlehem, PA’s Musikfest (8/5), Cary, NC’s Koka Booth Amphitheater (8/7), and Atlanta, GA’s Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park (8/8). From there, the tour will wind down with shows in Clearwater, FL (8/10), Saint Augustine, FL (8/11), Huntsville, AL (8/13), Franklin, TN (8/14), and Bentonville, AR (8/16) before coming to a close in Grand Prairie, TX on August 17th.

Per the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. website , the traveling festival’s billing indicates its mission beyond creating memorable musical moments: The name is an anagram for “Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality, N’, Tolerance,” a set of goals the event will pursue via partnerships with various charities. Every ticket sold will contribute to these meaningful causes, “promoting peace, equality, and tolerance in our communities. … It’s more than just a music festival; it’s a movement towards a better, more inclusive world.” Partner charities include Equal Justice Initiative , Know Your Rights Camp , The Greenlining Institute , and War Child via Plus1.org .

“The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour is a celebration of blues and rock ‘n’ roll music, and a celebration of unity and togetherness in these uncertain and divisive times,” said Slash of the tour. “S.E.R.P.E.N.T is a vehicle to help support and uplift people and communities suffering from the injustices of racism and equal rights violations, as well as to support children adversely affected by war and poverty across the world. So, we are contributing a portion of every ticket and VIP package sold from the tour to those ends. S.E.R.P.E.N.T. will also provide an environment where folks can get together for a day of great music and hang out and have a good time.”

Legendary Grand Funk Railroad Selects Van Wert For Anniversary Tour

Van Wert Federal Savings Bank presents classic rock sensation, Grand Funk Railroad at The Niswonger on Saturday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. This Van Wert Live event will be a stop on the 2023 American Band Tour. After playing to millions of fans on the band's tours from 1996 to 2022, Grand Funk's 2023 American Band Tour will continue to reach both new and long-time fans. The supporting sponsor for the Van Wert tour stop is Westwood Behavioral Health.

Known as "The American Band", the high-energy five-piece group will play forty shows all over the USA this year. Grand Funk Railroad includes original founding members Don Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, We're An American Band) and bassist Mel Schacher, "The God Of Thunder". Joining Don and Mel are true "All Stars". Singer Max Carl is a rock veteran from 38 Special. Max penned and sang 38's biggest hit "Second Chance" and was co-founder of California's legendary Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. Don refers to Max as "the best blue-eyed soul singer on the planet". Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick is best known for his 12 years with KISS and has credits with Michael Bolton, Meatloaf, and Billy Squier. (KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were influenced early on by Grand Funk.) Keyboardist Tim Cashion has a master's degree in music from the University of Miami. Affectionately called "Dr. Tim", his credits include stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and English soul man Robert Palmer.

Grand Funk laid the groundwork for such bands as Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen and Bon Jovi with its signature hard-driving sound, soulful vocals, muscular instrumentation, and forceful pop melodies. The fact that Grand Funk's legacy still reigns over the Classic Rock landscape fifty years after its 1969 birth in Flint, Michigan is a testament to the group's influence and staying power. Mega-hits We're An American Band, I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home, Locomotion and Some Kind Of Wonderful still receive continuous airplay on Classic Rock radio. Internationally acclaimed Grand Funk has toured the world, selling out in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan and South America. A 1971 performance at New York's Shea Stadium sold out faster than the Beatles. The group's widespread appeal is also evident in its prestigious recording achievements. Over their career, Grand Funk has had 19 charted singles, 8 Top 40 hits, and two Number One singles (We're An American Band and Locomotion, both selling more than one million each).

Tickets from $39 are available now to Van Wert Live Members. General Sales begin on Friday, April 28. VWLive Memberships begin as low as $100 and provide 365 days of early buying opportunities and a 10% discount for Van Wert Live events. Memberships and tickets can be purchased at vanwertlive.com or through the Box Office Mon-Fri from 10A to 3P / 419-238-6722.

'Kung Fu Panda' box office success

MONDAY AM: Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and that’s the secret or not-so-secret to success for DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4 , which arrived in theaters eight years after its third chapter.

‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ Review: Jack Black Is Back As Lovable Dragon Warrior On A New Mission In This Winning DreamWorks Sequel

‘kung fu panda 4’ trailer: jack black is back in latest installment of $1.8b franchise.

Together with the second weekend of Dune: Part Two ( $46.2M , -44%, an awesome hold due to those Imax/PLFs, running total of $157.2M ), the entire marketplace at $138.1M saw its first up weekend for 2024 from 2023 at +15%. Will the trend continue? While it appears there’s some momentum at the spring box office with Gil Kenan’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire around the corner, by the time we get to the beginning of April, it will be pretty hard to comp to last year’s Super Mario Bros Movie first weekend, which saw $204.7M for all films.

When the original Kung Fu Panda opened to $60.2M in 2008, the 3D of it all was being pushed. The Jack Black-voiced franchise also brought out a big 18-34 quotient and, despite the fourthquel being years later, that fanboy segment, older and younger, continued to be vibrant for the IP with ages 18-34 accounting for 48% of the audience and 18-24 at 27%.

Other Symphony stuff included Po dominating on streaming service Peacock with a 20-minute Keep Calm & Po guided-meditation piece, a Po-curated rail and a co-promo with The Traitors — Peacock’s highest-performing unscripted series. Xfinity 10G also had Kung Fu Panda 4 in a custom co-promo for the service.

Spots aired during all five Christmas Day NBA games and both AFC and NFC NFL Championship games in January. Kung Fu Panda 4 dominated the Lunar New Year season with a social blitz, YouTube food influencer collaborations and Awkwafina being grand marshal of San Francisco’s Lunar New Year Parade. There also were three spots that aired on Super Bowl Sunday, during pre-game, post-game and the surprise second overtime in Super Bowl history.

Following the Super Bowl, the campaign leaned further into sports with ads across ESPN, NBC Sports, Fire TV and TikTok, as well as a custom vignette with Black, Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves that ran on ESPN socials and during three linear NBA games along with custom soccer ads for the Liga MX and Premier League. On digital, the film had a custom sponsorship for Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour launch and also sponsored Quinta Brunson’s Hot Ones episode. “Keep Calm & Po” pause ads launched across Max, Peacock, DirecTV, Kargo and Paramount+ in February. There also were custom vignettes for the pic that aired during The Daily Show , Chopped , Premio Lo Nuestro and Top Chef , and placements on Abbott Elementary , America’s Got Talent , People’s Choice Awards Pre-Show and the premieres for American Idol and The Masked Singer .

There was a Roblox plug with Po interacting with players in a custom game, which became the No. 1 branded experience on the platform and, for the first time in Roblox history, provided 1M free film-themed “emotes.” On TikTok, there was the first-ever branded mission with the duet feature, which received hundreds of submissions from fans showing off their “Skadoosh” moves; influencers Rayna Vallandingham and The Coleman Family participated. Also more than 600K fans on YouTube and social platforms joined Po in a four-hour video of guided meditations and breathing exercises.

Promo partners counted chili oil brand Fly by Jing and Asian-owned beauty brand Tower 28. Po helped commuters find their path through a custom voice collaboration with Waze, and fans were invited to follow Po’s spiritual journey through a feng shui tree collaboration with Karma and Luck. There also was World Wildlife Fund collaboration encouraging families and students to protect pandas through a PSA, in-classroom materials and an in-classroom Zoom with director Mike Mitchell. There was also a big multi-media campaign with Burger King which included kid’s meals.

While not glamourous openings, more product provides extra bucks to exhibition: Blumhouse/Lionsgate’s Imaginary is coming in at $9.9M in third after a $10M-$14M industry projection (pic was cheap at $10M) and Angel Studios’ Cabrini didn’t perform big miracles with $7.1M in fourth.

PostTrak audiences gave the fourthquel an 80% positive and 59% definite recommend whilte kids under 12 were 90% positive and a 70% must see. Male skewing at 58% with 67% of the audience between 13-24. 18-24 year olds showed up at a massive 48%. Diversity demos are 44% Latino and Hispanic, 22% Caucasian, 11% Black and 18% Asian. PLFs are accounting for 6% of tickets sales while 3D is driving 17%. West and South are the most vibrant with the highest grossing cinema in the nation for the pic being The Cinemark Tinseltown El Paso TX with a near $40K so far.

Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two earned around $12.3M yesterday for what’s shaping up to be a $44M second weekend, -47%, for a running total of $154.7M . With those two movies leading the pack, it’s shaping up to be a $133.3M weekend, +13% over the same frame a year ago when Scream VI bowed. Wow. It’s been a while since we’ve seen an up weekend.

Lionsgate/Blumhouse’s Imaginary is third with $3.6M yesterday (including previews) at 3,118 theaters for what’s shaping up to be a $9.3M opening. Not shocking to see this movie below its $10M-$14M projection, nor saddled with a C+ CinemaScore and 57% on PostTrak. It is rather slow for a PG-13 horror film and there’s nothing really hip to hook the girls ala M3GAN. But it was cheap to make at $10M. Still more product means depth at the box office.

Demos are 53% women, 62% between 18-34, and 18-24 the biggest quad at 32% and another 20% from 13-17 year olds. Diversity demos are 38% Latino and Hispanic, 35% Caucasian, 17% Black, 6% Asian. The Teddy Bear is stuffed best in East, South and South Central with The CNMK Tinseltown El Paso the biggest grossing venue with $8K. .

Angel Studio’s Cabrini at 2,840 theaters is also coming in under expectations which isn’t a shock with $3M yesterday and around $8M for the weekend. Though made by the same director of Sound of Freedom, Alejandro Monteverde, there’s nothing in saintly nuns for QAnon and the far right to get excited about. Thank God. Those faith-based who showed up gave the movie an A CinemaScore and 94% PostTrak. Sixty nine percent of the audience are women with the largest demo being 55+ at 49%. Diversity demos are 65% Caucasian, 21% Latino and Hispanic, 4% Black, 6% Asian & 5% NatAm/Other. West is the softest region for Cabrini though the rest of the country is fairly even. The Regal UA King of Prussia in Philly market is the pic’s top grossing theater so far with a near $29K.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON: As expected, Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4 is headed to the second-biggest opening for the franchise with $52M after an $18.4M Friday (including previews) at 4.035 theaters. The original Kung Fu Panda opened to $60.2M in 2008, that DWA title distributed by Paramount at the time.

Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two has the strength of an Arakis sandworm, holding in at $41M or -50%. It may even be better. That amount gets the Denis Villeneuve feature take of the Frank Herbert novel to $152M by EOD Sunday at 4,074 theaters. Last year thanks to Scream VI, all films made $118M. We might see that same amount for the marketplace again.

Lionsgate/Blumhouse’s $10M production of teddy bear horror film Imaginary is eyeing exactly that in its 3-day, which is fine at 3,118 theaters. Today is $3.2M-$3.8M.

Fifth goes to Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love at 2,764 theaters with $1.1M today and a fourth weekend of $4.45M , -40%, for a running total of $89.7M . The movie hits digital on March 19.

FRIDAY AM: Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4 grossed $3.8M in Thursday night previews that began at 2 p.m. Thursday, a figure that KOs the preview number of 2019’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($3M), which stands as the best opening for a DWA title since Universal acquired the studio. The third pic in the Kung Fu Panda franchise opened to $55M in 2016 after a $17.3M Friday. The outlook for the fourthquel this weekend is north of $50M for the No. 1 spot. Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score of 82% is ahead of the movie’s critical score of 72% fresh.

Other family previews that Kung Fu Panda 4 stepped on were Disney/Pixar’s Elemental ($2.5M, 3 p.m.) and Wonka ($3.5M, 3 p.m.).

Lionsgate/Blumhouse’s PG-13 horror thriller Imaginary drew $725K from shows that began at 6PM. That’s a figure in line with Imaginary filmmaker Jeff Wadlow’s 2018 title, Truth or Dare, which posted $750K and went on to $18M, and it’s under 20th Century Studios’ Boogeyman which posted $1.1M and posted a 3-day of $12.3M. Imaginary is expected to open to between $10M-$14M. At 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear critics don’t like Teddy Bears.

We’re waiting on the official preview figure for Angel Studios’ Cabrini but we’re hearing it’s around $500K. The pic is expected to do between $5M-$10M.

Meanwhile, Legendary/Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two posted $6.4M on Thursday night, -4% from Wednesday, for a week’s take of $111M. In one week, the theatrical release of Dune: Part Two beat the entire domestic run of its 2021 predecessor, Dune, which did $108.8M; that movie’s fortune siphoned by a day-and-date release on HBO Max and theaters, as well as Covid.

Legendary Grand Tour still going strong after 25 years

Legendary Grand Tour organisers presenting cheque to CHSW

For over 25 years North Devon’s annual Legendary Grand Tour has become a firm fixture for August Bank Holiday and attracts Mini owners from all over the UK. Organised by Mini enthusiast Terry Baker and his wife Linda from Minehead, the latest Mini run raised an amazing £22,204 which brings the total amount raised for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) since it began to a staggering £626,218.36! Mary Gray, Area Fundraiser for CHSW said:

The recent Legendary Grand Tour saw 200 Minis take part, many of the cars and people in fancy dress, and the response from the spectators was once again incredible. We can't thank the Mini run team enough for organising, yet again, a wonderful event!

Mary explains how the event started in 1996 after mini run organiser Terry was asked if he’d bring his car to Little Bridge House to surprise a young Mini fan called Christopher, who was staying at the hospice for respite. “Terry ended up taking Christopher for a ride around Bideford, Northam, Appledore and Westward Ho and it got noisier and noisier as we went because Christopher kept pressing the horn as they went round.

“Terry met Christopher that day and got to meet a lot of the carers and people who worked at the hospice and realised just what a special place it is. From then on, they said that they wanted to support the children’s hospice.

"The Legendary Grand Tour has become Christopher’s legacy left to Children’s Hospice South West and part of the tour weekend is the same route they took him on all those years ago – and I’m sure it is just as noisy!”

Adele and Sally taking part in the Mini run 2023

It was a privilege to be a part of the Legendary Grand Tour again this year. The atmosphere was amazing and seeing the people lining the streets to give the Minis a wave and cheer them on was very moving. The amount of money raised by the Mini run is incredible and organising the event must be such a huge task each year, they do an amazing job. Taking part is a highlight of my year and I’m looking forward to taking part again this August!

A wide range of activities are offered to siblings of children accessing care at all 3 of CHSW’s children’s hospices. From making the most of the fantastic hospice facilities, to going out on trips to places like the zoo, the beach or even the local fire station. These activities are a wonderful chance for siblings to bond and build friendships with others who have similar family situations as well as an opportunity to receive emotional and practical support from the team who are on hand to support them through their journey with the hospice.

Legendary rock band reveals 2024 summer tour ticket sales

A solid lineup of classic rock bands have scheduled North American tours this year, and by far the biggest will be the Rolling Stones' 19-show Hackney Diamonds Tour, which opens April 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston and is set to close July 17 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Star rock bands from the 1970's and 80's Styx and Foreigner team up for their Renegades & Juke Box Heroes Tour that opens June 11 in Grand Rapids, Mich., and continues through Aug. 8 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Opening up for these two popular bands is former Babys and Bad English frontman John Waite, which completes an all-star trio for each night of the tour.

Tour celebrates Steve Miller Band anniversary

When the summer rolls around, another trio of iconic rock and roll bands embark on a 16-show 2024 Summer Stadium Tour featuring Def Leppard, Journey and the Steve Miller Band, opening July 13 in Atlanta and closing Aug. 30 in San Diego. In some markets, Heart and Cheap Trick will appear on the tour.

The tour coincides with the Steve Miller Band's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the band's blockbuster album "The Joker" with the March 4 release of J50: The Evolution of The Joker 3LP and 7-inch disc. The box set features 27 previously unreleased demos, live performances, studio outtakes and rehearsals from Miller's personal archive, including eight never-before heard songs.

For classic rock and some funk and soul, fans can catch Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire on their Heart & Soul Tour that starts July 10 in Maryland Heights, Mo., and ends Sept. 7 in Palm Desert, Calif.

Phish schedules summer tour

Popular jam band Phish, which is already scheduled to follow U2 at the spectacular Las Vegas Sphere April 18-21, has revealed ticket sales details for its 26-date summer tour, which begins July 19 with three shows at Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Mass.

After the opening shows, the tour continues on at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., July 23-24; Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wis., July 26-28; Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, July 30-31; Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Ind., Aug. 2-4; Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich., Aug. 6-7; Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, N.Y., Aug. 9-11; Mondegreen, The Woodlands in Dover, Del., Aug. 15-18; and Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., Aug. 29-Sept. 1.

Phish is using a ticket request process, which is currently underway at tickets.phish.com until March 11 at noon Eastern time.

Tickets will be mobile delivery only, and the system doesn't guarantee that fans will be able to buy tickets. If buyers are granted tickets, they will receive a separate ticket confirmation email, and each show will be charged in separate transactions from March 11 through March 13.

Buyers will receive a ticket request summary email with the status of all ticket requests when the process is complete. Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 15 at 10 a.m. Eastern time. Specific ticketing information for each show is available at phish.com/tours.

The latest release from Phish will be The Spectrum '97, a live 6-CD box set that is currently available by pre-order at drygoods.phish.com and will be available in stores March 15.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With the passing of legendary singer-songwriter Eric Carmen, we’ve lost one of the great balladeers and power-pop progenitors of our time. The Cleveland native’s work with the Raspberries and as a solo artist is essential and foundational for much of what’s been heard in popular music for generations.

You can hear direct influence in everyone from Kiss, Cheap Trick and the Cars, to the Bangles, Matthew Sweet and Teenage Fanclub. Adjunct influence lands in the likes of Material Issue, the Plimsouls, Jellyfish and Weezer.
