Interested in booking a cruise for a date or itinerary that hasn’t been announced yet? You can submit a booking request for a Disney cruise, even before Disney Cruise Line releases the schedule. Save yourself some stress and fill out the Small World Vacations Wait List form in advance and they’ll book your preferred cruise the first day you are eligible, at no cost to you! Plus, you can get up to $1000 in FREE onboard credit  courtesy of Small World Vacations! (All staterooms and cruises are subject to availability at the time of booking.)

Disney Cruise Line announces their cruise dates and itineraries for only a few months at a time: January through April, then May through September and finally, September through December. Once the new itineraries come out, booking begins just a day or two later, first to Castaway Club members (people who’ve been on a previous Disney cruise) and then to the general public.

The people who book earliest almost always get the lowest possible price . Sometimes there will be last-minute deals via the restricted guarantee fares or Florida Resident fares , but only a small percentage of cruises ever have those fares, and those fares aren’t always cheaper than opening day fares. In addition, early bookers get first dibs on staterooms, making it the best way to land one of the hardest-to-get staterooms like the Secret Porthole and Secret Verandah rooms. Lots of people know about these advantages, so on the days the new itineraries become available for booking, both the phone lines and website get slammed.

There’s an easy way to avoid the scramble to book on the first day the bookings open:  submit a request to Small World Vacations now. You just need basic information like where you want to go (Caribbean, Alaska, Norway, Europe, etc.), the date range you want, the kind of stateroom you want (inside, outside, verandah) and the names and ages of the people going. Let them know if you are a Castaway Club Member by including your Member Number and Level (Platinum, Gold or Silver). You can add other preferences or priorities as needed – early dining, lower deck, upper deck, not over a nightclub – whatever is important to you.  Their agents will review your request, contact you to confirm they understand your priorities, and then you can relax and let your personal agent book your cruise when the time comes. Your agent will provide their email and direct phone number, so you can discuss your options and preferences.

On the day the itineraries become available for your Castaway Club level, your agent will be up bright and early while you sleep in (or go about your usual day). If Disney releases a cruise that fits your criteria, your agent will typically go ahead and put a hold in place, thus reserving your stateroom(s), then email you with your cruise details and deposit information. You’ll be able to have your choice of room type and location and will lock in the opening day price. If later on you decide to change rooms on the same sailing, Disney will give you the opening day price on the new room , even if the price has gone up in the intervening days or months.

Even if you aren’t 100% sure whether you’re going to be able to go, there’s no real risk in getting a cruise booked early . Disney Cruise Line deposits for any stateroom types other than Concierge are fully refundable up to the Payment In Full date, which is 120-75 days before sailing, depending on the specific cruise and time of year. You have lots of time to figure out whether that cruise will work for you. If it doesn’t, you can get the deposit back or just transfer it to a different sailing date that works better.

The agents who handle cruise bookings for Small World Vacations have collectively sailed on more than 400 Disney cruises, and know a truly astonishing amount about all four ships, the various Disney ports of call, shore excursions and all the common itineraries (and many uncommon ones). Many of them are Platinum members of Disney’s Castaway Club, meaning that they have personally been on 10 or more Disney cruises! They’re happy to share their firsthand experience with the kids’ clubs, dining, character meets, entertainment, transportation, etc. In our experience, the travel agents at Small World Vacations are great at finding the best fares. They know all the tricks that will save you money, and they know the Disney Cruise Line inside and out. We’re confident that once you work with a really great travel agent, you’ll never want to book a cruise any other way. Read more about why we recommend using Small World Vacations to book your cruise!

  • If you are interested in booking a cruise that hasn’t been announced yet , fill out the Small World Vacations Wait List form and get on their Early Booking List!
  • Small World Vacations offers onboard credit of $50-$1000 per booking, good toward most onboard activities and extras such as spa treatments, shore excursions or even your bar tab. Small World Vacations also gives you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number. Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them! (Onboard credit courtesy of Small World Vacations.)

2024 Holiday Cruises, Themed Cruises & Other Special Cruises

Holiday cruises, themed cruises.

  • Double Dip Cruises

Repositioning Cruises

Unique cruises, adventures by disney cruise packages, disney vacation club cruises, independence day, halloween on the high seas, thanksgiving, very merrytime cruises (christmas), new year’s eve.

On sailings that include July 4th, there is usually a special celebration with characters dressed in red, white and blue outfits. There has not been a special fireworks show in the past, but sometimes on sailings in the Caribbean or Bahamas they move pirate night to July 4th so they will have fireworks on Independence Day. (There is no pirate night or fireworks on sailings outside the Caribbean and Bahamas.)

During this period there will be special Halloween events onboard, including Halloween-themed parties, storytellings, movies and elaborate décor, including The Pumpkin Tree, which magically transforms throughout the cruise. You will also find characters dressed in Halloween costumes, as well as a costume party for families and, just for adults, a costume contest and a Villainous Takeover on the dance floor in the nighttime entertainment district.

In the past there has not been any special menu for Halloween night itself, over and above what they do on all the Halloween themed cruises during the whole period, but there will be some special Halloween-themed treats.

Halloween on the High Seas takes place on the following sail dates:

  • Disney Dream : (Not yet announced)
  • Disney Fantasy : September 14 – October 26
  • Disney Magic : September 9 – October 31
  • Disney Wish: September 13 – October 28
  • Disney Wonder :  (Not yet announced)

In the past there has been a special menu on Thanksgiving Day, and pictures with Pilgrim Mickey and Minnie. The Christmas decorations will be fully up by Thanksgiving, and there will be a full set of holiday activities and events.

The following sailings include Thanksgiving Day (November 28, 2024).

  • Disney Dream : 5-Night Bahamian on November 27
  • Disney Fantasy : 7-Night Eastern Caribbean on November 23
  • Disney Magic : 6-Night Western Caribbean on November 25
  • Disney Wish: 4-Night Bahamian on November 25
  • Disney Wonder : 5-Night Australian on November 24 ( note: since New Zealand & Australia don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, we don’t know if there will be a Thanksgiving Menu. )

Typically, Christmas decorations will be up from early November through the final New Year’s sailing, and there will be special holiday events during that whole period, including meet and greets with Santa Claus and with Disney characters in special Christmas outfits. Some of the more elaborate Christmas decorations, including a huge, real gingerbread house or other gingerbread decoration, will not be up until later in November.

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, will be transformed with “snow” flurries, a Christmas tree and more. Be on the lookout for Mr. and Mrs. Snowman, dressed in their island attire. Plus, the island’s tram is decorated to resemble a reindeer, complete with antlers and a tail.

Very Merrytime Christmas-themed cruises will be offered on sailings departing between the following dates:

  • Disney Dream: November 14 – December 21
  • Disney Fantasy: November 10 – December 22
  • Disney Magic: November 21 – December 23
  • Disney Wish: November 4 – December 23
  • Disney Wonder:   (Not yet announced)

These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Pixar Day at Sea

Marvel day at sea, star wars day at sea.

Pixar Day at Sea includes a Pixar film festival; photo opportunities with Pixar characters; a character breakfast with Woody, Jesse and Bullseye; a theatrical performance based on Coco ; a Pixar-themed dinner; a dance party with Pixar characters; and a nighttime spectacular featuring the Incredibles.

Pixar Day at Sea will take place on select Disney Fantasy 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral in early 2024. The Eastern Caribbean cruises are January 6, 20; February 3, 17 and March 2. The Western Caribbean cruises are January 13, 27; February 10 and 24.

Marvel Day at Sea is a special all-day celebration of the Marvel Universe. Special features include multiple Marvel character meet-and-greets, Marvel-themed activities for families, Marvel movie screenings, a costume party, special merchandise and food, and an exclusive Marvel deck party. There is also an adults-only dance party with Star-Lord and Gamora.

Marvel Day at Sea will take place on select Disney Dream 5-night Western Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale on January 7, 12, 21, 26; February 4, 9, 18, 23; March 3 and 8.

Star Wars Day at Sea cruises generally feature a full day of Star Wars celebrations, including a deck party, meet-and-greets with favorite characters, Star Wars -themed youth activities, at-sea screenings of Star Wars films, unique food and beverage offerings, and special merchandise. The night before Star Wars Day at Sea, Darth Vader and Stormtroopers march into the ship’s atrium for an Imperial takeover.

Guests are encouraged to bring their costumes and participate in the costume celebration held in the ship’s atrium. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique offers special makeovers on Star Wars Day at Sea. Kids ages 3-12 can transform into Rey, Kylo Ren, Leia and Poe. Adults and teens, can get a Rey makeover that includes a stylish dress, makeup and hair style or choose from one of four Star Wars-themed T-shirt options. All come with a personalized name tag, lanyard with medallion and magnet set.

No Star Wars Day at Sea dates have been announced for 2024. Star Wars Day at Sea appears to have been replaced with Pixar Day at Sea, but DCL has not made an official announcement one way or the other.

  • If you are interested in booking a themed Disney cruise , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Double Dip Cruises

A “Double Dip” sailing is one that visits Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point twice on the same cruise, or goes to both of them on the same cruise. Many people (including us) feel the day at one of Disney’s private beaches is the highlight of a Bahamian or Caribbean cruise, and this gives you a double dose! Both days follow the typical Castaway Cay & Lighthouse Point schedule: off the ship at 8:30 am (depending on sea conditions), and all aboard at 4:45 pm. The same excursions and activities will be available both days, though if you want to do the same activity or book a cabana for both days, you’ll need to book each day separately. If you are going to Castaway Cay twice, you can run the Castaway Cay 5K twice!

In the rare event that the ship visits Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point two days in a row, the ship will not stay docked overnight. It will leave the island at the usual time on the first day and come back the next morning.

Double Dip cruises scheduled so far for 2024:

  • Disney Dream : March 17
  • Disney Magic : July 1, July 15, July 29, August 12
  • Disney Fantasy : Jun 8 (technically a triple-dip!), July 20, July 25

Repositioning is when a cruise starts in one port and finishes in another. These cruises can be a good deal, as they usually are cheaper per night than conventional round-trip cruises. They also tend to go to more unusual locations. The longest repositioning cruises are the Panama Canal and Transatlantic cruises, which are almost always the cheapest cruises (per night) of the whole year.

Unique cruises have an itinerary that is different from other cruise itineraries that particular ship is sailing around that time. They either visit an unusual location or locations or visit a unique combination of common locations. Repositioning cruises are all unique as well.

  • If you are interested in booking a specialty Disney cruise , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

2024 Adventures by Disney Cruise Packages have not yet been announced.

The Adventures by Disney Cruise Packages include 2 Adventures by Disney guides available onboard and in port; special VIP privileges; private onboard receptions; unique onshore activities; early debarkation at each port; all meals, snacks and water while in port; a photo CD with all ship photographer pictures, all Adventures by Disney guide photos and an Adventures by Disney slideshow.

  • If you are interested in booking an Adventures by Disney Cruise Package , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS they give you FREE onboard credit for any Disney Cruise Line booking of over $1000 total fare, good toward most onboard activities and extras such as spa treatments, shore excursions or even your bar tab.

DVC member cruises are only open to Disney Vacation Club members who have purchased at least some of their vacation points directly from Disney (rather than from another member via resale). Members can use their vacation points to book the cruise or can pay cash rates. Typically DVC cruises are significantly more expensive than similar cruises for the general public, but guests will be given a wide variety of DVC special gifts and will get to experience some exclusive member events including talks by special guests including artists, imagineers and/or actors from classic Disney movies.

Whether the DVC member cruise is worth booking is a personal judgment call. The extra events are difficult or impossible to experience any other way. The various DVC gifts are usually a mix of the usual kinds of tote bags, pens, and so forth you can get by attending a DVC meeting or buying a new DVC contract, plus at least a few special and unique items. Some people love the DVC member cruises and try to go on each one. Others go once and feel it’s not worth the extra money.

Disney Cruise Line has announced two Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member cruises for 2024:

  • May 18: 7-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona on Disney Dream
  • June 14: 5-night “triple dip” Bahamian cruise with two visits to Lighthouse Point and one visit to Castaway Cay on Disney Magic

Adventure by Disney Pre- and Post-Cruise Escape Packages take place before and after select Disney Cruise Line sailings. These 2- to 3-night Escapes include 2 Adventure by Disney guides; hotel accommodations; multiple, daily excursions; special VIP privileges; all transportation during the trip and a photo CD with all the Adventure by Disney guide photos.

  • If you are interested in booking an Adventures by Disney Pre- or Post-Cruise Escape Package , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS you could save up to $1,000!  Read more about the Small World Vacations savings offer here .

Disney Cruises in 2025: Sail Dates, Itineraries, and Ports

UPDATED March 14, 2024: This article has been updated to add Summer 2025 cruises across the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

There will be, of course, plenty of Disney Cruises in 2025. But factoring in personal schedules and school calendars may limit your options. And you’ll also need to work within the schedule of itineraries available for the ship/ ports you want.

So whether your 2025 sailing will be your first Disney Cruise or just the latest in a long line of voyages, you’ll need to know where the ships are and where they’re headed.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a convenient reference guide that puts all of the currently available info in one place.

First, we have a brief overview of where each Disney Cruise Ship will be located throughout the year and the type of cruise each will be providing. That will give you a quick glance of your options if you’re limited to a certain time of year, trying to find a particular type of cruise, or seeking the convenience of a port near your home.

Then, we go in-depth (day-by-day) for each month of the year; this lets you see exactly which sail dates are being offered for each itinerary — especially handy if your vacation weeks are locked in and you need to see which cruises are available.

Have Questions About 2025 Disney Cruises? Vacationeers Are Standing By!

Where Will the Disney Ships Be In 2025?

Here’s a quick overview at what’s planned so far. To see specific cruise itineraries and sail dates , look at the monthly entries further down this page.

Only a portion of 2025 sailings have been released so far . Here’s what we know at the moment.

Disney Adventure

The Disney Adventure is a gigantic new Disney Cruise ship being built on the frame of the former Golden Dream .

The new ship is expected to launch some time in 2025, though an exact maiden voyage date has not yet been released.

Although we don’t yet have specific itinerary information or a sailing schedule, we do know that the ship will be based in Singapore for the foreseeable future. It is expected to offer cruises geared toward the Asia market.

Disney Destiny

The Disney Destiny is another new cruise ship, currently under construction and expected to launch at some point in 2025. It will be a sister ship to the Disney Treasure and Disney Wish.

We do not yet know the date of the maiden voyage, nor do we know for sure where it will be based or what types of itineraries it will offer. It is possible  — but not confirmed — that it will sail from one of the home ports in Florida , as Disney has historically placed its newest ships there for their first few years.

Disney Dream

Passengers on the Disney Dream will ring in 2025 during a Bahamian Cruise that ends in  Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 4th.

The Dream spends the first nine months of 2025 sailing from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean.

Sail dates for October 2, 2025 and beyond are not yet released, but it’s not currently expected that the ship will deviate much from what it’s been doing for the first part of the year. We’ll see if those expectations change as the new ships in the fleet come online.

Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy starts 2025 in Port Canaveral, Florida with an Eastern Caribbean cruise that ends on January 5.

From January 5 through the beginning of May, the Fantasy will be exclusively devoted to Bahamian cruises out of Port Canaveral .

On May 4, the Disney Fantasy begins a 13-night Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise from Port Canaveral to Barcelona, Spain .

The ship spends the remainder of the summer on European Cruises from Barcelona, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Southampton .

Sail dates for September 15, 2025 and beyond have not yet been released.

Disney Magic

The Disney Magic cruise ship starts 2025 in Galveston, Texas , returning from a Western Caribbean cruise that ends on January 2, 2025.

From January through March, the Magic continues with its Western Caribbean cruises from Galveston .

In late March and early April, the ship goes from Galveston to San Juan, Puerto Rico on a Bahamian Cruise, then from San Juan to Fort Lauderdale on a Bahamian Cruise.

Starting April 4, 2025, the Disney Magic offers a series of Bahamian Cruises from Fort Lauderdale .

On May 7, 2025, the Disney Magic shifts to Port Canaveral , but continues offering Bahamian Cruises through the summer and early fall.

Sail dates for October 3, 2025 and beyond have not yet been released. It’s unclear if the ship will sail out of New Orleans, Louisiana at any point (as it did in 2024).

Disney Treasure

2025 is expected to be the first full year of operation for what will be Disney’s sixth cruise ship, the Disney Treasure. The ship will be based out of Port Canaveral, Florida and offer Caribbean cruises through at least late September.

Sail dates for September 27, 2025 and beyond are not yet released; it is likely (but not officially confirmed) that the Treasure’s offerings will remain generally the same throughout the remainder of the year.

Disney Wish

The Disney Wish had a very simple sailing schedule in 2024 , spending the entire year offering 3- and 4-Night Bahamian Cruises from Port Canaveral, FL .

This same schedule continues through at least early Fall 2025; and although we don’t yet have information for September 29, 2025 and beyond, we currently don’t expect any major deviations after that point.

Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder cruise ship starts 2025 in the southern hemisphere, offering Australia and New Zealand cruises from Sydney and Melbourne, Australia (where January and February are summer months ).

Starting in mid-February, the ship goes on a series of one-way cruises that take it to Honolulu, Hawaii , followed by Vancouver, Canada , and then to San Diego, CA.

March through May brings a series of Baja California and Mexican Riviera cruises from San Diego .

In mid-May, a one-way cruise to Vancouver will re-position the ship for the beginning of the summer Alaska Cruises , which run from May through late September.

Sail dates for September 23, 2025 and beyond have not yet been announced.

When Does Disney Release Its 2025 Cruises?

Many 2025 sail dates are not yet released. Right now we only have sail dates for the first few months of the year.

Disney Cruises are typically released in three phases throughout the year, though this year is a bit different due to the addition of the Disney Treasure to the fleet. Here’s what has happened so far, and what we expect for the remainder of 2025:

  • Disney Wonder sail dates for January 2025 to February 2025 were released in June 2023
  • Disney Treasure sail dates for January 2025 to May 2025 were released in September 2023
  • Disney Dream sail dates for January 2025 through May 2025 were released in October 2023
  • Disney Fantasy sail dates for January 2025 through early May 2025 were released in October 2023
  • Disney Magic sail dates for January 2025 through May 2025 were released in October 2023
  • Disney Wish sail dates for January 2025 through May 2025 were released in October 2023
  • Disney Wonder sail dates for February 2025 through mid May 2025 were released in October 2023
  • Travel dates for Summer 2025 and early Fall 2025: Were released in March 2024
  • Travel dates for Fall 2025 through the end of December 2025: Expected to be released around June-July 2024

As mentioned above, the expected launch of three new Disney Cruise ships in rapid succession somewhat complicates the release schedule for 2025. In addition to the Disney Treasure, both the Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny are expected at some point in 2025. At least some sail dates for those ships will likely be announced separately from the regular cadence of itinerary releases.

What New Disney Cruise Ships Are Being Built?

We want to go to Hawaii next summer but it doesn’t look like there are any cruises going there then?

april disney cruises

Hi Hunter — for the past few years, the Hawaii cruises have been scheduled on the Disney Wonder during its transitioning between the Alaska cruise season and Australia cruise season. That only leaves spring and fall for any Hawaii stops. So if you want a 2025 Hawaii cruise with Disney, you’re likely looking at February/March, or possibly September/October (fall 2025 sail dates haven’t been announced yet — they’re due later this year). Another option, though not a cruise, is Disney’s Aulani resort on Oahu. Hope that helps!

This Isn't Your Grandfather's Cruise! Visit Exotic Ports Like Castaway Cay for $2,228 Total

Prepare yourself for four nights of exciting sailing through the Caribbean when you step aboard the Disney Disney Wish from Port Canaveral and back.

This cruise is particularly interesting because you will only tour through extremely rare ports like Castaway Cay. This is a typical route for the Disney Wish.

This price includes all entertainment, meals, port fees, and taxes. No sneaky extra fees!

The Disney Disney Wish

Based in Port Canaveral and built just two years ago in 2022, over 2,400 passengers can travel comfortably on this Disney Triton class cruise ship.

The Disney Wish Disney boasts a gym, a spa, six pools, a jacuzzi, a waterslide, a ping pong table, and a casino.

Pricing Information

Since being listed five months ago, the cost of this cruise has remained steady at $2,228. The accompanying graph displays the price over time for the different types of cabin. Now this itinerary is at its lowest price, so lock in your room now before it rises.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary spends one sea day and two days in port. High points include a long stop in Nassau in addition to visits to rare destinations like Castaway Cay.

Alternate Sailings

The Disney Wish sails this route twenty-seven times next year, but doesn't sail it this year. The Disney Fantasy also sails a route with the same stops but a slightly different schedule. In the accompanying graphic you can see a visualization of when this ship sails as well as the relative price.

When do special offers for Oct/Nov typically come out? Thanks.

' src=

Special offers are often used to fill up remaining inventory so there isn’t a tried and true timeline on when dates might become available. It has been a few weeks in a row where the dates end in September, so we could be inching closer to fall dates if there are rooms to fill.

Disney Cruise Line reveals new 'Heroes and Villains' themed cruise ship coming in 2025

april disney cruises

Disney Cruise Line will add another new ship in 2025.

The line will take delivery of the Disney Destiny next year, the brand announced Wednesday.

The vessel will have a “Heroes and Villains” design theme, with the cruise line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams drawing inspiration from “the dynamic duality of every great Disney story, where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose,” according to a news release .

Onboard experiences will feature characters from stories such as “Hercules, “The Lion King,” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” though the line has not yet shared additional specifics about the amenities or the ship's maiden voyage. An illustration on the bow will show Minnie Mouse "striking a valiant pose in a heroic ensemble, her cape waving majestically in the sea breeze as she boldly leads guests toward their vacation destinies,” the line added.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” Sharon Siskie, the line’s senior vice president and general manager, said in the release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

The vessel will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish and the upcoming Disney Treasure, the latter of which will set sail in December. The cruise line will also add another ship, the Disney Adventure , in 2025, which will homeport in Singapore and mark the brand’s first to sail in Southeast Asia.

Disney Cruise Line revealed the name of its next ship, the Disney Destiny, along with details about its design theme, “Heroes and Villains.” (Courtesy/Disney)

It was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

In a Disney snub, Nelson Peltz lands major endorsement in proxy fight

Rejecting Walt Disney Co.’s bid for boardroom stability, an influential corporate research firm has recommended that shareholders add billionaire Nelson Peltz to the Disney board, raising the stakes for next month’s proxy showdown.

On Thursday, Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. — which advises the large institutional funds on corporate governance matters — recommended that investors vote to give the vocal Trian Fund Management founder a coveted seat on Disney’s board of directors. ISS made its recommendation, in part, because of Disney’s bungled succession planning.

The recommendation adds to the challenges facing Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger, who has struggled to set Disney onto a strong financial path after returning as CEO in November 2022 after a brief retirement. The company has had numerous setbacks during the last four years, including COVID-19-related closures that stymied the company’s theme parks, cruise lines and theatrical business and a tumultuous tenure by former CEO Bob Chapek.

Audiences’ shift to streaming and rampant cord-cutting have eroded Disney’s profitable linear TV business. And last year’s dual strikes by actors and writers also left big gaps in the programming pipeline.

“Iger’s return may have been sufficient to plug the holes, and management has since taken several actions to plot a better course. With any luck, the favorable winds of renewed cinematic success should convince shareholders that Disney is again headed for safer ports,” ISS said in its report. “What remains missing is tangible progress towards succession to give investors sufficient confidence that the company will not run aground after Iger departs, and in doing so, avoid future mutinies.”

‘We have to go to war’: The man battling Disney’s Bob Iger — and increasingly long odds

For the second time in a year, activist investor Nelson Peltz is battling Bob Iger and Disney to shake up the company and nab two board seats.

Feb. 26, 2024

The firm was alluding to the internal coup that toppled Iger’s hand-picked successor, Chapek, after about two and a half years in the CEO job. Senior Disney executives worked behind the scenes to bring Iger back to replace Chapek.

The board‘s makeup will be decided at Disney’s annual shareholders meeting April 3.

ISS, however, declined to endorse Trian’s second candidate for Disney’s board — Jay Rasulo, a former Disney chief financial officer. New York-based Trian Fund Management holds $3.5 billion in Disney stock, including the shares of former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter, an Iger foe.

ISS recommended shareholders select Peltz over Maria Elena Lagomasino, who has been a member of Disney’s board since 2015. A longtime banker, Lagomasino is CEO and managing partner of WE Family Offices, a firm that serves high net worth families. She also serves as the lead independent director of Coca-Cola Co.

In contrast, another corporate governance advisory firm Glass, Lewis & Co., endorsed Disney’s 12 nominees earlier this week.

“[W]e strongly believe that ISS reached the wrong conclusion in its recent report when it comes to adding Nelson Peltz to the board,” said Mark Parker, chairman of Disney’s board. “In contrast to Glass Lewis, ISS fails to acknowledge the breadth of perspective and expertise Ms. Lagomasino adds to the Board. The strong recent performance and results overseen by the Disney Board demonstrate our focus on long-term shareholder value creation and succession planning and our commitment to good governance practices.”

Disney earnings top Wall Street expectations amid proxy battle with Nelson Peltz

Disney released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2024 as Bob Iger seeks to quell a proxy battle waged by investor Nelson Peltz.

Feb. 7, 2024

Iger has received public support from JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas and the heirs of company founders Walt and Roy Disney , including Abigail Disney , Walt’s grand-niece and a critic of the company’s executive compensation practices in the past.

On Thursday, another prominent ally — Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs — boosted Disney’s campaign for its nominees.

“My family and I have been significant investors in The Walt Disney Company for nearly two decades, and in that time, we have seen the company transformed thanks to the steady and visionary leadership of Bob Iger and Disney’s expert Board of Directors,” Powell Jobs, founder and president of the Emerson Collective, said in the statement.

“What has always set Disney apart is the way it combines unbridled creativity with technological innovation to tell timeless stories — stories that inspire and enrich the world around us,” she said. “There is no one who understands Disney’s important legacy or the responsibility to protect it more than Bob Iger.”

Will Nelson Peltz’s Disney proxy campaign prove to be a costly distraction?

Last week, Disney unveiled a political-style attack ad aimed at Peltz and his co-nominee, former Disney chief financial officer Jay Rasulo, which blasted the former’s credentials.

March 19, 2024

Iger’s nomination to the board is uncontested.

Disney’s stock has rallied by more than 30% over the last six months, but ISS noted the Burbank giant still lags behind the S&P 500 over an extended period — until last October when the activist Peltz unveiled his second proxy battle for a seat on Disney’s board.

“Iger’s turnaround plan, while somewhat scant on specific guidance, may have reassured investors that these challenges are being addressed,” ISS said. “Nevertheless, the key decision points that led to the company’s challenges over the past five years, not to mention multiple activist campaigns, can be traced to the board.”

ISS said Disney’s board fell short on two key matters: cultivating a capable successor to Iger and “preventing Chapek from veering off course after he was appointed.”

The question, the firm said, is whether the board would make the same mistakes again.

“The importance of executing a successful succession plan, particularly for a company of this complexity, and the board’s prior failure to properly oversee this process, suggests that some level of change at the board level is warranted,” ISS concluded.

Disney’s board is looking at four candidates to replace Iger when he retires in 2026: ESPN chief Jimmy Pitaro; co-chair of entertainment Dana Walden, who oversees television; Alan Bergman, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, who runs the company’s film studios; and Disney Experiences Chair Josh D’Amaro, who leads a portfolio that includes the theme parks, cruise lines and Disney Imagineers.
