Warner Brothers Deluxe Tour - Not Worth The Money

In March of 2010 we were in Los Angeles and went on the "VIP" tour at Warner. Later we found out they have an extended "deluxe" tour which lasts twice as long. So on a return trip two weeks ago we splurged on the "deluxe" tour. I will explain our disappointment in this expensive tour, but feel in fairness, I should mention the positive side of the Warner tours. And I will make a final recommendation on how to spend your money wisely and see the most. First, I feel it was a privilege to be allowed within the gates of a major movie/tv production facility and the "VIP" tour was amazing. The guide in 2010 was very professional and our most recent guide, Dean, was a real pro. We were very fortunate to have him. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the studio and it's history made for a wonderful tour. Here's the disappointing part of the "deluxe" tour. While the 2 1/2 hour VIP tour costs $48 the Deluxe tour costs $225 per person, lasts five hours and includes lunch. (I heard your gasps as you read the price.) So as you read on, keep in mind that we spent $450 for the two of us. In the description of the "deluxe" tour the Warner website states “this very exclusive tour takes you into the craft shops to talk to the artisans at work, onto working production sets to talk to key crew people." We were pulled in by that statement because the VIP tour had not included anything like that. Well, the "deluxe" tour did not either. Here's what we actually got for the extra money. We were taken into a hallway and a curtain was opened to reveal a window that looked into a room where a lady was walking on carpet. They were recording the sounds of her footsteps for a tv show. A gentleman came out and spent a couple minutes explaining what they were doing. We were then taken into a sound production room where they mix all the audio for movies and tv. No artisans, no key crew people....just an empty room that we spent about 2 minutes in. The bulk of the extra time was spent in empty, dimmly lit sound stages looking at sets for tv shows that were not in production. And keep in mind that we were there amongst the VIP tours that paid much less to see these same sets. So bottom line, they in no way lived up to the promise of taking us into the craft shops to talk to artisans or onto working production sets to talk to key crew people. This is why we spent a lot of extra money. Our expectations were not out of line because we assumed these people would be busy and not be able to give us a lot of time. But there were no people, artisans or key crew people. There were no craft shops or working production sets as promised. We were really disappointed that we just didn't see much of anything that you couldn't see on the "VIP" tour...except for the lady walking on carpet. In conclusion, the "deluxe" tour does not deliver and is a waste of money. If you want about 5 hours of studio time my recommendation is to take the $48 "VIP" tour (it's great and well worth the money) and then go over to Paramount for their $40 tour. You'll save $137 per person and you'll see about as much as we did. However you will have to buy yourself lunch.

Went to the WB Studio website and received tickets to the 820am VIP tour. I don’t know if it was because we were traveling during a Friday in February but we were three of 5 total people on the cart. We had tickets to see Jay Leno in the afternoon but needed something to do in the AM. We choose to the WB VIPs tour. It was well worth the money to go on the tour. Total of the tour was $52 with the service charge. Use the bathroom before you get on the cart. There is one place to use the bathroom but it would be better not to have to worry about when and where. They lock your purse and any other items under the seat. You are able to take water and camera on the tour but you will not be able to get to your purse until after the tour. They do warn you in the places where you can and cannot take pictures. We saw many things on the tour. We went on the set of Two and Half Men, saw cars that were in the movies, the café of Friends. I liked the Jungle area, set of the Mentalist, and my favorite was the archives of the Harry Potter Movies. I really enjoyed that part of the tour. We were dropped off at WB so we did not have a car to drive to Jay Leno. We choose to walk to NBC studios for we had “tickets” for Jay Leno Show. Easy walk over maybe 7 blocks. It was a great idea to go to the tour at WB prior to waiting for Jay Leno Show. We were #10 in line and started waiting in line about 1pm. By 1:30pm the line had about 100 people in the line. Jay Leno Show seats a little less than 400 people. You need to bring a book or something to do while you wait. Even you get tickets to the Jay Leno Show it is NOT guaranteed at all. You need to get there about 1pm so that you don’t wait for the show and not get in to see him. There are two query areas to wait. The first query states you cannot have food or drink but many of the people were eating. My suggestion is to get a sandwich “to go” from WB walk over and eat it while waiting in the first query area. The first query area has you stand in the line about 130pm so you are standing a long time prior to them taking you to the 2nd query area. You have a few interns asking questions of the area out in the query area. They ask you to do questionnaires while you wait. They like the young ladies and men dressed in very current clothing. Meaning anyone between the age of 18 and 30 that look hip and cute will get a front seat even if you show up late. You don’t get to choose where you sit they will place you where they feel like is best for the “look” of Jay Leno. Being over the age of 40 and not dressed with a low cut shirt on I was placed in the third row back. I am enjoying watching the production of the Jay Leno show. They let you into the 2nd query area about 2pm maybe 230pm and you get through security, check your reservation, and give you your #. There is bathrooms here and you need to use it ASAP because they start moving people in fairly soon after you get to sit for a few minutes on benches in order. The taping started at 4pm and they have a great comic that gets the audience ready to laugh. They are VERY good I enjoyed the pre show a lot. They take you in to the studio in groups. Sit you down and this I find to be a very interesting processes as noted before hand. I would do this again it was very interesting to see how the whole production works and it was a lot of fun. Taping starts at 4 and you are done by 5:15 pm or so.

I went to the Los Angeles area specifically to take a tour of one of the studios. I had read reviews of how good Paramount studio tours were, and the WB ones were not as favorable. You needed advance reservations for Paramount, but could show up anytime for WB, so we decided to take our chances and try the Warner Bros VIP tour. I was not sorry at all! We got there at 10am, which was perfect - it was crowded, but we basically missed the huge crowd that swarmed in about ten minutes after we arrived. We waited in line for about 10 minutes and got tickets ($48) for the 10:20am tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, and she made the tour very enjoyable by telling us little tidbits and stories of what was filmed where, how to get tickets to be in studio audiences, and what life was like on the set. We did a combination of riding around on the golf cart and walking around sets (we got to see Ellen & Two and a Half Men, which were not taping that day). We saw the WB museum, which housed clothing from movies/actors throughout the centuries, the auto museum (which had the cars from Austin Powers to Dukes of Hazzard), and walked around houses used in tv shows/movies. The tour lasted almost three hours and worth every penny. Another tidbit was that we got to see the True Blood set (I had no idea it was filmed mostly at the WB studios!), I would definitely go again!

First, get the public transport bus to the studio, rather than booking with Starline Tours. (see my separate review about them!) Our family of four had a great time once we were out of Starline's clutches and being looked After by Bob, our tour guide, who drove us around the lot, made us laugh and gave us good insights in a very friendly and laid back manner. More time to look around the museum would have been appreciated. we got only 15 minutes, which was not enough. If you are seriously interested in how movies and tv are made, then this is the tour for you.

Went on the $48.00 tour on 2-9-2011 (9:40 a.m. tour). Andrew was our guide who was very knowledgeable, very high energy, and did his best with the time alloted (about 2.5 hours) to take us around the lot and see as much as we could. We visited the Two and a Half Men set, saw the cast of the Big Bang Theory, visited the set of CHUCK and got to meet actor Zachary Levi. I usually pay for the Deluxe VIP Tour but decided to do the cheaper one to see the difference, and either way you go you can't really loose. I will say on my previous two tours I didn't see any actors, and you shouldn't expect to, either - if you go in with the expectation of being able to see a working TV & movie studio, evrything else is icing on the cake. It really is worth the money.

We did the VIP Tour at Warner Bros Studios on New Years Eve in the afternoon. It was great; very interesting, but because it is mostly on a tram it was cold. We called for the day before and they were totally sold out so we booked the last tram of the day. Because of traffice we were 15 minutes late, but they were so nice and caught us up with the group anyway. We walked on a few of the stages, but the best part to me was the prop house- just too cool. I would love to go through there and pick stuff out for my house!

Warner Bros Studio Tour London: Harry Potter Deluxe Tour

Harry Potter has been a part of my pop culture life for over 20 years, and I have successfully made Elizabeth a huge fan, too. I knew that going to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London to see the real sets, costumes, and props from the Harry Potter movies would be a must-do on our trip to Ireland and England. The Harry Potter Studio tour is extremely popular and sells out very early. It sells out so early, in fact, that the only option left during our trip was the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour, a VIP experience at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.

No trip to London in your future? That’s okay! Find out more about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando.

What Is The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour?

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

The Warner Bros. Studio London Deluxe Tour is a VIP experience that provides a different experience than the self-led tours. The Harry Potter deluxe tour gave us a private tour guide for 2 hours within the exhibits, a full meal in a private seating area, vouchers for Butterbeer or Butterbeer ice cream, a complete guidebook, 4 photos and 1 video for each ticket holder, and then access back into the tour where we could explore the exhibits more in-depth on our own. By far the best part of the Harry Potter deluxe tour was our guide, Joe. There were 10 of us in the deluxe tour group, and Joe did an excellent job of sharing fascinating anecdotes about what went on behind-the-scenes during the filming of all 8 Harry Potter movies.

The VIP Experience – Value of a Tour Guide

Each Harry Potter Deluxe Tour guide is well educated on everything associated with the filming of Harry Potter from characters, costumes, props, and sets to fun trivia. The two guides we spoke to were both huge Harry Potter fans and it really showed in how they presented the information. We learned details about the movies, and it made me appreciate everything I saw on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London even more.

Elizabeth asked a lot of questions of our tour guide, and he impressed us by knowing the answers right away. One of the most interesting things she asked Joe was how they made Madame Maxime appear so large. The answer was fascinating! The actors for Madame Maxime and Hagrid both had a body double who wore an animatronic head to make them even taller. Madame Maxime was a 7’1” basketball player, and Hagrid was a 6’10” rugby player.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour guides lead you through the exhibits and sets. The guides are allowed to go into the displays and even handle some of the props. This allowed us an up close look at the amazing detail in everything associated with the films. When we went to the potions classroom we could see all of the potions textbooks have lovely hard covers. While filming a scene there, the director thought it odd that all the students would have closed textbooks on the desks. Because of that director, an entire book of potions was written for the scene. On our deluxe tour our guide Joe went into the display and showed us the beautiful hand lettered potions textbook with a foreword, full textbook of chapters, and even a bibliography inside.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

Thanks to our tour guide we also saw up close one of Harry Potter’s scars made for the film and Bellatrix Lestrange’s teeth. Did you know that they made thousands of the scar for Daniel Radcliffe, as one would expect of a young actor, he kept picking at them. Once they even had to re-shoot an entire scene because there was a visible fingerprint on the scar.

Here are some of my other favorite bits of trivia from the Harry Potter Studio Deluxe Tour:

  • All external shots of Hogwarts were filmed with an extremely detailed model. Each miniscule brick is hand painted in the massive scale model. There are even miniature furnishings in some rooms to make them look real as the camera flies past.
  • It took one of the graphic designers three months to hand draw the Marauders Map. Unfortunately, right after completion her toddler decided to color it. It then took her another four months to create an even more intricate Marauders Map which is the one we are all familiar with.
  • Creating Dobby the house elf’s appearance had been difficult for the creative department. They couldn’t quite find the right inspiration. One day, a staff member brought her dog to work. The German Shepherd’s big eyes and floppy ears were perfect inspiration for the Dobby we know from the films.
  • Although there are a lot of animatronics and practical effects, Dobby is all computer generated. Dobby was just a puppet on green sticks to help actors know where to look during filming. The only “real” Dobby is the one that Harry cradles in his arms after his great sacrifice.
  • The beds in the boys dormitory are tiny! They only built the Gryffindor boys dormitory set once, and the beds were a only a good fit at the very beginning of filming.

Harry Potter Deluxe Tour Procedure

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

Once you arrive at Warner Bros. Studio you will check in for the deluxe tour. Your tour guide will then come out to greet you, escort you to security screening, and then into the lobby of the studio. We arrived early, because I did not want to chance being late. Our guide, Joe, covered the procedures and what to expect on the tour. He then told us we could look through the store and use the restroom while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive.

Our tour started right on time despite one family not being present. The Harry Potter Studio tour starts the same way for everyone whether self-guided or a deluxe tour. There is a holding room with a brief introduction on how the Harry Potter books got the green light to become films. Next you are led into a small movie theater and shown some clips from the movies. Then you move to a large set (but I won’t spoil the surprise). After this first set is where your Harry Potter Deluxe Tour really begins.

Your guide will walk you through the many exhibits. Halfway through the tour you stop to place a meal order. When we told the cafe staff about Elizabeth’s food allergy, they were able to research ingredients and provide us some options. Our only food allergy disappointment was that we could not find out if Butterbeer was safe. The formula is secret, and the only allergen information is a sheet showing safety for top allergens, a list that doesn’t include corn.

After placing your meal order, the second half of your Harry Potter Deluxe Tour begins. There is no set script for the guide, so they each provide a special flair to the tour. We learned tons of fun and interesting facts about the movies. The two-hour tour seemed to fly by, and we were disappointed for it to end.

Once the guided tour was over, we were led to a roped off dining area where our food was brought to our table. Don’t fret if you think two hours is too little time to see everything at the studio. After eating, the guide will allow you special re-entry into the tour. As a special perk of the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour your guide escorts you through a special hallway. This special access allows you to explore the Great Hall in between sets of traditional tour groups before you resume the self-guided portion of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Deluxe Tour

  • Book Your Tour Early – Booking early gives you the best options for tour times. Our deluxe tour was at 3 pm, so we had limited time to spend exploring on our own after the guided portion was over. A morning deluxe tour would give you more time for the self-guided portion.
  • Arrive To Warner Bros. Studio London early – The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour will begin on time, with or without you
  • Use Your Photo Vouchers – There are 1 video and 3 professional photo opportunities in the studio tour. Your vouchers allow each person 4 digital/printed photos and 1 video. Have fun taking goofy pictures! We laughed so hard when each of us was making our flying broomstick videos.
  • Redeem The Voucher For Butterbeer – The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour voucher entitles each person a Butterbeer or Butterbeer ice cream in a souvenir plastic cup or dish. We tried both. The Butterbeer tastes exactly like the traditional drink at Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando . The ice cream was a thumbs-down in our family, but I know some people like it.
  • Get Your Guidebook – As part of your Harry Potter Deluxe Studio Tour you receive a souvenir glossy, color guidebook with tons of fun facts about the movies.

Getting to Warner Bros. Studios London

Warner Bros. Studio is located in Leavesden which is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) outside London. If you are comfortable with city public transportation in general this is an easy trip to navigate. You will need to take the West Midland Rail train from Euston Station in London to Watford Junction. Once you arrive in Watford Junction you exit the train station and follow the signs to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London shuttle bus. This air-conditioned double decker bus cost us £2.50 per person for a round trip and brought us directly to the studio.

Find out more from Warner Bros. Studio London about transportation , including self-park options.

Final Thoughts

Although more than I had originally budgeted, I left our Harry Potter Studio Deluxe Tour feeling extremely glad we booked it. Having a private guide to share their knowledge and answer our questions was invaluable. I got much more out of the tour by having our expert guide, relative to just perusing displays ourselves. After adding in the cost of drinks, meals, a souvenir guide, and photos to the general admission tour price the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour was a better value than it first seemed.

The fascinating details and stories our guide shared with us and seeing props up close was a special experience. I never dreamed I would see the Great Hall empty and stand alone by the gigantic doors into Hogwarts. The tour guide, special experiences, and the wonderful service from everyone we met made the Warner Bros. Studio London Deluxe Tour feel well worth the additional cost. Even Mr. Smart Mouse, who to my utter shame is not a Harry Potter fan, said that the tour was fabulous and made the experience more interesting for him.

Note that the store is open to the public even if you’re not taking the tour. It’s filled with merchandise from both classic and contemporary Warner Bros. movies, as well as their beloved TV series.

There’s a Starbucks in the Welcome Center, just in case you need some coffee, and you’ll be greeted by an impressive oversize sculpture from the Triwizard Tournament (from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ), and both Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny (in bronze statue form).

This experience is where you’ll learn about the history of Warner Bros., from its origins in 1923 through its nearly 100-year journey making the entertainment we’ve all enjoyed. You’ll see a sampling of the studio’s film, TV and animation titles, as well as some of the technological innovations. Take a selfie with a replica of the iconic WB water tower, see mini versions of the famous Sound Stages, and walk on an aerial view of the sprawling studio lot printed on the floor.

Central Perk Café and Friends Boutique

Friends fans may never want to leave this sprawling re-creation of their favorite show’s sets. Sit on the famous couch at Central Perk, lounge in Joey and Chandler’s recliners and watch clips from the show, or hang out in Monica and Rachel’s apartment. And you can do all of this while enjoying delicious food from the Central Perk Café next door. Before you leave, you’ll want to shop at the Friends boutique, which has some fan merchandise found nowhere else.

Stage 48: Script to Screen Experience

Have you ever wondered about how on-screen magic is made? You’ll get a taste of what’s involved when you check out the Script to Screen section, which includes a special Post-Production interactive area. Learn about Foley Artists, Sound Mixers, Film Editors, and ADR Mixers. ADR, which stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, is the process of replacing the actor’s voice that was recorded during production with a new version.

Sometimes when crews are filming, there’s extraneous noise that makes an actor’s dialogue unusable, or sometimes a new line is written and needs to be recorded. Whatever the reason, the way new dialogue is recorded and added to the film is something you can try for yourself. Stand in the booth, choose a scene, and you’ll get to record your voice coming out of a movie star’s mouth!

Action and Magic Made Here

Whether you’re a fan of the DC superheroes , the Harry Potter series , cool costumes and movie sets, or if you just like to be delighted, the Action and Magic Made Here experience is going to be your favorite part of the tour.

Wonder Woman fans get the treat of posing with her wings from WW84 , or from squeezing her lasso for a special surprise. They also get to see many costumes from the Wonder Woman movies, and even the classic Lynda Carter TV series look.

Not to be outdone, Aquaman, Superman, Batman, and Shazam are well represented for their fans (and fans of their villains), and you’ll find costumes, props, and vehicles from their movies, as well as larger than life posters and sculptures.

Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts

We predict Harry Potter fans are going to love this section of the tour. There are several interactive experiences they can choose to try, like taking a lesson in wand choreography, sitting on Harry’s bed under the stairs, mixing a few potions in Professor Snape’s classroom, or possibly the best one: letting the Sorting Hat choose which house you belong to at Hogwarts.

There are other great photo opportunities and interactives just within the Harry Potter section, and as a bonus, if you download the free Harry Potter Fan Club App, keep an eye out for the Enchanted Keys placed throughout the exhibit, and scan them when you see them, you’ll unlock hidden surprises.

More About the Studio Tour

The Studio Tour has a one hour Guided portion, and about two hours of unguided, self-directed time in total. The Guided portion of the tour is spent largely on the Tour Carts, riding throughout the studio lot with a tour guide to explain and answer questions. The rest of the tour is made up of time you’ll spend dining, shopping and exploring the interactive experiences. You’ll be able to complete this on your own time, and it may take you less than two hours.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour is available in English and Spanish.

The Warner Bros. Deluxe VIP Tour

Note that the Deluxe VIP tour has not resumed in 2021. Stay tuned for updates. What follows is based on the tour as it was in 2012.

The VIP Deluxe Tour begins with a movie overview of some of the classic films and TV shows that were filmed on the lot, and it makes for quite an impressive resume. Beginning with The Jazz Singer in 1927, and continuing with films like The Maltese Falcon , A Streetcar Named Desire , The Music Man , What’s Up Doc , The Matrix Trilogy and all the versions of Ocean’s Eleven , Warner Bros. has been responsible for many great films – too many to name here.

Plus, dozens and dozens of our favorite TV Shows come from Warner Bros., like ER , Friends , Pretty Little Liars , Ellen , The West Wing ,  The Drew Carey Show , and so many more. You’ll see clips of many of them in the presentation – and immediately wish you had them all in your Netflix queue.

Academy Awards for Everyone!

On your tour, you’ll get to do something only members of the Motion Picture Academy usually get to do: hold an Oscar ! It’s surprisingly heavy, just like all the actresses say when they win – and it’s like a little dream come true when you get your photo taken. At least it was for me .

After that, your tour guide greets you and your group and leads you out to your “private” golf cart which will ferry you around the 10-acre lot for the 5-hour Tour. Photography is permitted in most places on the lot, however, some spots are off-limits and your tour guide will keep you informed.

Celebrity sightings are not uncommon on tours during the week (but rare on the weekends), and of course these can be a highlight of the experience, but since this is where the actors are at work, tour attendees are encouraged not to yell or accost the stars they may see. Photos with celebrities are not unheard of, though, especially if the rules are followed, so keep your eyes peeled and your fingers crossed.

The tour takes you through the backlot, which has doubled for every major city in the world over the years, and the “jungle”, which plays home to the exterior scenes of Pretty Little Liars and True Blood currently, but many others over the years as well.

ER was a major player on the Warner Bros. lot for the 15 years of its run, and so there are many spots on the tour that turn out to have been filmed as part of the show.

Related: Best Live Audiences to be part of in Los Angeles

The Tour Guides are all extremely knowledgeable about the history of the lot and about all the shows that are currently filming there. Each one brings their personality to the job – one they clearly relish. They really make the Tour special and worth every penny.

The tour continues with visits to the Prop department, where you’ll see replicas of the Maltese Falcon, the Wardrobe department where they construct the specialty costumes, and the Transportation and Picture Car department with cars on display like the Scooby Doo van, the Batmobile and the flying car from Harry Potter .

Plus there’s a special Green Screen photo opportunity there as well, where you can pretend you’re waiting for the Hogwarts Express, and there’s a fun stop at the preserved set of Central Perk from Friends .

There’s a visit to the sound department to see how special sound effects are made, some still “by hand”, even in this digital age.

Of course there are set visits, although not to those where there’s a crew actually working. Still, it’s amazing to see the rooms up close that you’ve only seen on TV or on the big screen. The attention to detail is fascinating.

One of the highlights of every tour is visiting the Warner Bros. Studio Museum . Some of the most famous costumes and props from their most popular movies and TV shows are on display. On any given day, you might see Ingrid Bergman’s suit from Casablanca or Voldemort’s cape from Harry Potter . Oh and for the serious Harry Potter fans: you can sit under the Sorting Hat and find out which house you belong to!

And did I mention lunch? Lunch at the Warner Bros. Commissary is included with the price of the tour. The setting is elegant and the food is terrific.

All in all, the Warner Bros. VIP Deluxe Tour is a wonderful way to spend the day.

Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood Review: Is It Worth The Money?

Touring a TV and movie studio simply has to be on your travel itinerary when visiting Los Angeles for the first time. But which of the four major studios should you choose? Well, this first hand review will give you a rundown of what you can expect if you plump for the  Warner Bros  studio tour.

By the end of this unbiased review, you will know if Warner Bros is the perfect studio tour for you. On the other hand, you could end up certain you need to choose one of Sony, Paramount or Universal instead.

Hollywood movie studio tours are not cheap and take up a considerable portion of the day. Unless you’re a HUGE film fan, we’d recommend picking only one tour before spending the rest of your time and money on the other  awesome things to do and see in Los Angeles .

As avid movie fans ourselves (but not quite in the HUGE bracket) we chose Warner Bros because our research led us to believe it was the “purest” movie studio.

Each studio tour has its pros and cons which we’ll get into later, before giving you our opinion on whether Warner Bros is worth the money.

Let’s find out if Warner Bros is your golden ticket!

Warner Bros Studio Factfile

City : Los Angeles (Burbank) State : California

Also Known As : Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. / WB

Founded : 1923 Founders : Harry, Jack, Albert and Sam Warner

Subsidiaries :  DC Films, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros Pictures, Castle Rock, Cartoon Network Mascot : Bugs Bunny

How To Get To Warner Bros Studio Tour In Hollywood

Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood Sign

Warner Bros Studio tour is located in Burbank, Los Angeles. The easiest way to find it on a map is by looking to the North West corner of Griffith Park.

LA is huge and traffic is renowned for being congested. If you have your own vehicle and don’t mind driving across the city, there is an underground parking garage right beneath the WB building.

No matter if your hotel is in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills or Hollywood, your most efficient route is to drive up Cahuenga Boulevard. Take the right turn at Barham Boulevard which transitions into W. Olive Ave. Turn right onto West Riverside Drive and right onto Warner Boulevard. Follow signs for tour parking.

Note : Driving in LA is not a lot of fun so consider arriving by other means if you’re not the most confident driver!

If you don’t have your own vehicle or you’d prefer to leave it parked at the hotel, you’ll need to use the metro and/or Uber or Lyft.

  • Cheapest option  – Metro B Line (Red) stops at Universal City/Studios. This is the closest you can get by Metro and your options are either walk 2.4 miles or take a Lyft/Uber.
  • Most convenient option  – Simply have a Lyft/Uber pick you up wherever you are in LA. But this will cost more!

Getting Around The Studio Complex

Tour carts for 10 guests at Warner Bros studio

The tour is well organized, they’ve been doing it a long time and have cracked the ‘guest arrival efficiency’ code. You will wait in a lounge type area for your designated time slot before beginning the tour.

A brief welcome movie in an intimate cinema setting introduces you to the day ahead, then it’s straight on with meeting your guide and hitting the road.

You will be transported around the Warner Bros studio tour by 9-10 seater electric powered carts. However, there are plenty of walking parts where you can stretch your legs so no need to worry about being cramped up for a few hours.

You are not allowed to wander off on a rogue mission to find famous people and the guides will keep a close eye on your group.

It is important to remember this is a working studio, which means there could be several tv shows and movies being filmed at the time of your tour. Correct etiquette is non-negotiable!

Warner Bros Studio Tour FAQ’s

Carts around fake facade buildings in Los Angeles

How Long is the Warner Bros Studio Tour?

Expect the tour to take approximately 3 hours. That includes 2 hours guided tour and 1 hour self guided at Studio 48 at the end of your tour.

Can You Take Pictures on the Warner Bros Tour?

You can take photos but only at certain allocated times. Your guide will inform you at every stop and in between whether or not photography is permitted but video is not permitted at any point of the tour.

Which Movies Are Associated With Warner Bros?

We can’t list every film from such a historic and comprehensive catalogue but some more recent movies include The Matrix Trilogy, The Hobbit (and LOTR under New Line Cinema), Batman (including Dark Knight Trilogy), Harry Potter, Inception, Sherlock Holmes, The Hangover, 300, Twister, The Departed, Mad Max, Oceans 8, 11, 12 & 13 … and the distinguished list goes on!

What Is Included In The Warner Bros Studio Tour?

So now you know how to get there, let’s dive into exactly what you can expect from this world famous studio tour.

One of the most important things to remember from this review is no two tours are the same. Each time slot throughout the day will plot a different route through the studio grounds.

That means what we saw on our tour will not be identical to what you will see on yours!

Backlots & Soundstages

Warner Bros studio tour backlots street facade

Warner Bros is home to 10 backlots and 30 sound stages. But what are backlots and soundstages exactly?

Backlots are permanent exterior buildings used for outdoor scenes in movies and tv shows. Think the old west or New York buildings.

One example is the alleyway where Tobey Maguire hangs upside down as Spiderman to kiss Mary-Jane. That same alley and brick building surrounding has also been used in other major blockbuster movies.

Once widely used in cinema, the use of backlots quickly diminished as movies began shooting with actors physically on location and as CGI technology advanced.

Sound stages (or just Stages) are huge sound-proof warehouse like buildings where many of the major movies film scenes that are not on location. Entire sets are constructed inside these buildings and can stay in place for as long as necessary.

The entire series of Friends was filmed inside studio 24 and Saito’s castle scenes from Inception were filmed inside Stage 16. We won’t give any more away!

Backlot at movie studio in Hollywood California

On the outside of every Stage building is a plaque showing each of the movies and TV shows filmed inside that particular Stage.

You will be able to go inside and walk around one Stage to view the set of a currently running TV show.

On our visit we went inside the full sized apartment of ‘Lucifer’.  We were also told that Denzel Washington was on the premises shooting scenes for a movie.

Old Movie Props

Old movie props might not sound exciting but when you get there you will see why it is one of the best stops on the Warner Bros studio tour.

The last samurai movie props in Hollywood

Remember the 2 faded red leather chairs from the Matrix? The neon Comedy Club sign from Joker? How about the armor worn by Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe in the Last Samurai?

Comedy club neon sign from the joker movie

All of these and (so much!) more can be found inside the prop storage building. We were even lucky enough to see the building next door with its shutter open.

What was inside?

Only Phoebe’s taxi from Friends and Austin Powers’ Shaguar!

Austin powers car and phoebe's taxi from friends in garage on movie studio lot

You are guaranteed to see props from some of your favorite movies when you walk around this building.

Many will be a surprise because who really knows which movie studio produced their favorite movies?!

DC Universe Exhibit

Wonderwoman costume Warner Bros studio tour Hollywood

Any superhero fans out there? At Warner Bros it’s best if you’re team DC and not team Marvel!

One of your first stops will be to walk around DC’s Aquaman and Wonderwoman exhibits. The majority of displays are costume design and accessories, such as Diana Prince’s Lasso and Arthur Curry’s armored suit.

Aquaman armored suit in exhibit at movie studio in Los Angeles

Although not overly exciting, this part of the tour does allow you to appreciate other elements of what makes movies so engaging.

Who ever looks to see who the costume designer was in the end credits?

But when you stop to think about it – costumes, weapons, design etc are vital to every movie!

Hmm, Mark has some work to do in the gym to emulate Jason Momoa holding the trident.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter characters costumes at Warner Bros studio tour in Hollywood Los Angeles

Another stop on the Warner Bros studio tour is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. You will walk a one way route around all things Hogwarts, Dumbledores Army, Newt Scamander and Grindelwald.

Signatures of all actors who played Dumbledores army in Harry Potter

Now, we implore you not to get too excited, this is not like the Harry Potter tour in London where you can see full sets.  We wouldn’t recommend choosing Warner Bros based solely on your love for the Harry Potter franchise!

What you do get to see is authentic props like Dobby the House Elf and the sorting hat, plus real costumes worn by most of the main characters.

All of your favorite wizards outfits are on display and it is kind of fun to imagine the actors being there in person … o r putting on one of the costumes yourself, picking up a wand and shouting ‘Expelliarmus’.

However, the most interesting part for us personally was being able to see some of the original storyboards. It’s fascinating to see how the drawings compare to the end product on screen.

Old Batmobile to combat Mr Freeze in Batman and Robin

Maybe you were wondering why we didn’t mention Batman in the earlier DC Universe section? Well, that’s because there’s an entire Batcave dedicated to the caped crusader!

Dark Knight trilogy batted on display at Warner Bros studio tour exhibit

Personally, we loved the Christopher Nolan / Christian Bale Dark Knight trilogy, so getting to see the tumbler and Batpod was pretty cool!

The room is very dark and looks more like a strange car showroom with purple lights but information plaques do have individual lights for reading.

Batman Cowl worn by christian bale as batman in the dark knight trilogy

Also inside the Batcave are replicas of the Neutron Bomb from DKR, and older Batmobiles like the Bathammer from Clooney, Keaton and Kilmer eras.

Even the Batsuit Christian Bale wore is on display!

Mark collecting an Oscar in studio 48 at Warner Bros studio tour

Stage is 48 is called Script to Screen, which means you get an insight into what happens at pre-production, production and post-production stages of making a movie.

This is another aspect of filmmaking that often gets overlooked by the average movie watcher.

But consider editing, sound, casting, green screens for CGI etc – a movie cannot be made without these elements.

This section of the Warner Bros studio tour is self guided and interactive. The best thing you can do is ask questions and explore every part of production.

You could rush through in 10 minutes or easily spend an hour looking at storyboards and creating costumes for a movie. It is the first time you are able to slow down and read everything.

You can also ride Harry Potters Firebolt broom or Batmans Batpod with a green screen behind. A guide will instruct you to ‘turn left’ or ‘cast a spell’ as you watch yourself on a monitor.

This is of course being filmed and you can buy a video souvenir but they are not cheap and we personally did not buy one.

It’s hard to get into character when you don’t have the full Batsuit on shouting WHERE’S THE TRIGGER at Bane in your deepest and harshest voice (with a peg on your nose)!

For us, the best (and only real unmissable) part of Studio 48 is the sound engineer insight called ‘art of sound’.  A guide will explain to you how sound was composed in space for the movie Gravity, it’s a truly fascinating and intriguing part of the tour.

Oh, and you can hold a shiny Oscar, like Mark winning his Best Actor award from the 1950’s.

Central Perk

Central Perk set full size at movie studio in Hollywood

Fans of TV show Friends will enjoy the entire authentic set of Central Perk cafe.

You can take a seat on the famous sofa, order coffee from imaginary Gunther and maybe even pretend that you are also being paid US$ 1 million per episode!

Mark and Kristen sitting at the famous sofa in central perk from friends tv show

With a total of 236 episodes, Friends has to be regarded as one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time, right?! Classic feel good background noise at worst, engaging emotional rollercoaster at best!

It is one of the only American sitcoms that used to get replayed over and over again growing up in the UK but is still widely adored.

Netflix even paid over US$ 100 million for rights to stream re-runs between 2014 and 2019. Not bad for a show that finished all the way back in 2004. #timeless

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory staircase and elevator studio prop set in Hollywood

Moving swiftly onto another show where you can imagine earning a cool million per episode is one of America’s favorites: Big Bang Theory.

Big Bang is the longest running multi camera sitcom in history with almost 280 episodes across 12 seasons.

Kristen sitting on sofa of Big Bang theory apartment set

Imagine how much time each of the main actors playing Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Penny and Howard spent filming in front of live audiences at Warner Bros!

Much like the Central Perk set, Big Bang sets Caltech Cafe, the Elevator and Apartment 4a can all be explored as part of the tour in Studio 48.

Tour Guides At Warner Bros

Warner Bros studio tour guide explaining about the backlot set and which movies were filmed there

We’ll take a wild guess you consider yourself a bit of a TV and movie buff? We thought so too, but we were wrong.

Our tour guide set the benchmark for being considered a bona fide movie buff. Shout out to Erik, this guy lived for it!

These giant world beating movie studios want to give the best possible experience for those who travel from around the world to get behind the scenes of their favorite TV shows and movies.

The guides have to be fantastic, it is as simple as that.

Our advice to you is speak up whenever you have a question about anything. Ask away and your guide will enjoy responding!

Warner Bros Studio Tour Price

Stage 28 at Warner Bros studio movie tour backlot and stages

Warner Bros offers what is widely regarded as the best pure movie lovers tour out of all the studios in LA. We didn’t tour the other studio so can’t give a definitive agree or disagree on that claim.

If you truly love TV and movies, the price here won’t matter too much because you’re going to pay it anyway!

An adult ticket for the Warner Bros studio tour will set you back a fairly hefty sum of US$ 69 .

Which is the Best Studio Tour in LA?

Costumes of Neo and Trinity from the Matrix on exhibit in Warner Bros studio tour Hollywood

Now you know what to expect and the price of Warner Bros, it’s important you know the most pertinent information about each of the competition.

There are 4 major movie studios to choose between in Los Angeles.

What are the most important aspects for you to consider when choosing which studio you want to visit?

Is it price, which movies they made, location (ease of access), what you will see or something else entirely?

We created this Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and Universal comparison table to look at pros, cons and differences of each tour and to help you determine if Warner Bros studio tour is the one for you.

Warner Bros vs Sony vs Paramount vs Universal Studio Tours

Is warner bros studio tour worth your time and money.

Warner Bros is worth your money as long as you have some interest in Harry Potter, Batman, DC universe characters, friends or Big Bang Theory. Consider choosing one of the other studios if none of that sounds exciting!

Let’s take a quick look at what we liked, didn’t like and how much we would pay for this tour.

What Was Hot

  • The sheer scale and magnitude of the Warner Bros studio grounds.
  • We thought it would be more about sets and backlots but thoroughly enjoyed the costumes, props and production aspects.
  • Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the industry and always had informative answers to questions.
  • The tour is longer than any other studio offers (for the basic package).
  • Parking the car was not a problem thanks to the multi-story underground parking lot.

What Was Not

  • Tours leave every 30 minutes from 8.30am – 3pm so it can at times feel a little like you’re on a conveyor belt of tourists. You will run into a number of other tour groups throughout.
  • The tour slightly lacked a personal touch overall and would benefit from a few freebies or take homes.
  • Paying for parking adds a further US$ 15 to the overall ticket price and we think that is a bit harsh as tickets are already expensive enough.
  • In certain exhibits (such as DC Universe and Wizarding World) the tour group moves too quickly which makes it difficult to read all information boards.

It is definitely worth mentioning the GO Los Angeles card for those of you who intend to do more tourist attractions on your visit to Los Angeles.

You can seriously save money with this card but only if you get busy!

You have two options:

  • Explorer Pass – 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 ATTRACTIONS (value & savings increase the more attractions you do). Click to see options .
  • All Inclusive Pass – 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7 DAY pass (value & savings increase the more days you do). Click to see options .

Warner Bros studio tour is included in all pass options. You could potentially save a substantial amount of money by including this tour with others in Los Angeles.

What Is A Fair Price?

We personally thought the Warner Bros studio tour was worth US$ 69 each. We probably would have paid up to around 80-90 dollars but any more and we would have written it off.

It’s not every day you get to go behind the scenes of a movie studio, especially when you’re a big fan of movies.

You have to set a reference point, like paying 10 bucks for a beer at a Dodgers ball game or US$ 100+ on a meal out in Beverly Hills and entrance to Warner Bros won’t seem so high!

If you love movies and have a morning or afternoon spare on your Los Angeles itinerary, we think the Warner Bros studio tour could be the one for you.

It certainly didn’t disappoint us.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Deluxe – Is It Worth It?

Last Updated on November 24, 2023 by Suzy McCullough

As a pre-Christmas surprise for my Potter-head 9-year-old son, I wanted to book us a short break to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London. In the winter it is transformed into Hogwarts in the Snow and becomes one of the most sold-out winter attractions in the UK. This event sells out weeks in advance and there were no tickets left when I looked at booking. The only available option was to book a Studio Deluxe Tour . This is not cheap, but then again neither is entry to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. The Deluxe Tour can be booked all year round.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Deluxe - Is It Worth It?

Deluxe Tours Vs Regular Entry

Before our account of our day out including the Deluxe tour I just wanted to weigh up the pros and cons. Regular entry costs around £53 for an adult and £43 for a child. The Deluxe tour costs from £250 for an adult and £225 for a child. This package has become increasingly popular and you may need to plan your visit some months in advance.

I paid £475 for the two of us. We didn’t get to park in the priority parking as despite telling the parking attendants that we were on the deluxe tour they still directed us in to park with everyone else. This may or may not happen to you. As your breakfast isn’t included you may also have to purchase lunch there to take advantage of your tickets for the day. It was a lovely breakfast but I feel that having lunch included would be better. You can take a picnic with you which you can eat in the Backlot area or the picnic area.

Deluxe Tour Breakfast

Is the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour Worth It?

Without the cost of a Deluxe Tour, a souvenir guidebook costs £9.95. The green screen photos and videos costs around £75. A butterbeer in a souvenir cup costs around £7. The lanyard is around £4. Plus entrance costs, that is around £200 already spent not including breakfast. When you look at it like that the added bonus of the guided tour of 2.5 hours, plus re-entry to wander around by yourselves and photos by the doors of the Great Hall makes the cost entirely worth it to me. If you can afford it do it! It’s such an expensive day out anyway and you get so many insights through the guided tour. Plus of course some great memories.

Another bonus of the Deluxe Package is that you get to skip all the queues. Simply flash your pass in your lanyard at the staff members and you will go straight to the front of the queue for the broomstick green screen experience. Which is more than worth it as it always has a huge queue. There was also a long queue for butterbeer and we were allowed to skip straight past this. You also go to the front of the queue for the Hogwarts Express green screen experience. Plus on the tour with the guide, we skipped the queue to board Hogwarts Express (this was very long) and the queue for Privet Drive.

Are The Green Screen Photos Worth It?

This is a tough one. The full package is included with your Deluxe Package so you don’t notice the cost as much. The green screen photos are incredibly expensive. There is a price for a photo of around £14 or you can upgrade to include a video and also extra photos. The all-in cost of the broomstick flying greenscreen is around £40. If I hadn’t been on the tour I’d have just bought a singular photo which would have just been for my son and not myself as well. The photos and videos we now have I feel are great memories to be cherished forever. My son has his Wanted poster framed on his wall. We also have photos and videos from the Hogwarts Express greenscreen which is slightly cheaper for the full package at around £35. You are given physical photos plus digital downloads.

Deluxe Package Warner Bros Studio Tour Review

As mentioned above we weren’t shown to the designated priority parking when we arrived which was annoying as it was part of the Deluxe Package. I had shown our deluxe ticket to the parking assistant so I’m not sure what went wrong.

Make sure you arrive with at least 30 minutes to spare before your meeting time for the tour. When we arrived at 9:30 it had already been open for an hour so there was a big queue for people to get their tickets. If you don’t have your tickets posted to you in advance you have to exchange your printed tickets at the box office. As part of the deluxe tour we also had to queue here and it was annoyingly long. After a few minutes wait we were met by our tour guide. We were then led to a small roped-off area in one of the cafes. Here we had waiter service for our included breakfast. This was actually very good.

There was just one other family on our tour which was a group of Americans with very little knowledge, it turned out, of Harry Potter. They loved the tour though. Once we had all finished our breakfast it was time for the guided tour to begin. We entered the Great Hall with a larger group of people with standard tickets. After some time in here, our guide led us secretly back round to the doors of the great hall. They then took photos of us by the doors. On a standard ticket, you do not get this opportunity.

We were then guided around all the sets and props by our guide. Because your tour takes place during opening hours there were quite a lot of people that were trying to listen in to our tour. Our guide actually mentioned a few times to people not to listen in as it was a private tour. We learnt so much from her. As you walk around most exhibits don’t have information stands. If you are visiting without a tour you may not have the opportunity to learn much. They do have audio-visual guides you can rent for a small charge but there is nothing quite like learning facts from a real guide and Harry Potter fan.

There is so much to see and I have so many photos I could share but I will try and keep it to our highlights. I will also not partake in any facts we learnt as I’d rather you learnt them on a tour. You will learn how sets were used in filming, how costumes were made, the use of props and snippets about many of the characters. A lot of the film’s scenes were filmed on location right there at the studios.

Our tour guide also went into Snape’s laboratory to give a talk which of course everyone could listen in on.

She also pointed out many things we may not have spotted ourselves. When you walk around there are some interactive elements including buttons you can press to make things move or happen.

One of my favourite areas is the square next to the cafe that’s about 3/4 of the way around. Here there is the Knight Bus complete with sound effect buttons, plus a recreation of number 4 Pivet Drive and the greenhouse with squealing Mandrakes. Our tour guide offered to take photos of us here on the famous Hogwarts Bridge and also sat in the blue Ford Anglia car. This is also where the butterbeer is. There is no time for this during the tour so you must re-enter later so you can use your voucher for a free butterbeer or butterbeer ice cream.

We certainly made use of our free re-entry after the tour and used it to take more photos, drink some butterbeer and pull up the mandrakes yet again.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Gringotts Bank

Diagon Alley is dusted with ‘theatre snow’ during Hogwarts in the Snow. It’s almost impossible to take a photo of the whole alley without other people in. I think the only way you’ll manage this is if you arrive at 8:30 am but even then you’re not guaranteed as you don’t want to rush around just for a photo as you can’t re-enter with a standard ticket.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Diagon Alley

The large-scale model of Hogwarts is also given a dusting of snow. This is where our tour ended and where the tour guide took the last photos of us. Another reason to re-enter after the tour is to use your vouchers for the green screen experiences. Our actual tour over-ran and lasted for almost 3 hours. We had lunch after the tour before we used our free re-entry privilege.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Hogwarts in the snow

All in all, it was a wonderful and memorable day out and I didn’t feel ripped off. What we experienced was well worth the cost and I’d do it again if money allows. It’s the ultimate experience for any Harry Potter fan. With the deluxe package, we had a lovely relaxed experience. I’m pretty sure the queues to spend more money and to look inside Hogwarts Express would have annoyed me otherwise.
