It’s like Shaka all over again – walls falling all over the place!
With the release of Star Trek Online ’s 11 th Anniversary update, we are releasing a feature that will allow players of all factions to fly the starship of their choice, regardless of the default allegiance associated with that ship.
Does this mean a KDF Dahar Master can finally command a Section 31 Command Heavy Battlecruiser? It certainly does!
Does this mean a dedicated Federation Admiral can now sit at the helm of a D4x Kelvin Pilot Bird-of-Prey? That’s true, as well!
Read on to learn what you can do to unlock this new account-wide feature!
True to the Empire
Access to this game-changing feature will be automatically granted to any and all accounts that have a character that reaches Level 65 as a member of the Klingon Defense Force. Species is unimportant, so long as that captain began his or her career aboard a Klingon vessel, even if they are Gorn, Orion, Nausicaan, or any of the other citizens of the modern Klingon Empire that don’t call Qo’noS their homeworld.
This means that members of the Romulan Republic or The Dominion that are allied with the KDF do not qualify to meet this requirement. The character must be fully dedicated to the Empire, and not just an ally.
This includes accounts that already have a Level 65 KDF character! Simply log into the game on that character to have their status verified, and access to Cross-Faction Starships will be automatically unlocked.
Financial Superiority
For players looking to skip the level-up process and jump straight into the unrestricted fun of flying any ship they like, there will be the option to purchase this unlock from the Zen Store for the cost of 2,000 Zen.
Special Introductory Pricing! On PC, from January 26 th , 2021 until the end of the Anniversary Event on February 25 th , 2021, this special unlock will be discounted 50% OFF , leaving the price at only 1,000 Zen.
What’s Included?
We have done our best to ensure that the freedom that coincides with this feature will meet player expectations, and thus have arranged for all of the following to be updated for player use, regardless of Allegiance, for players that have unlocked this feature:
- Admiralty Ships
- Registry and Prefixes
- Bridges and Interiors
- Experimental Weapons
- Hangar Pets
- … etc.
This does not mean that restrictions have been entirely removed, however. For example, Experimental Weapons will still only be usable on starships that have an Experimental Weapon Slot, and ship class restrictions that may exist on certain Hangar Pets will remain in place.
Obtaining the Cross-Faction Starship unlock will also un-restrict existing purchases from the Zen Store, allowing Klingons to claim Federation ships and bundles, and vice versa, if you already own them. The Zen Store and Starship Vendors have been updated to contain additional cross-faction reclaim options for any account with the feature unlocked.
Since players will now have a way to access Starships they previously could not, we have chosen to remove many “Cross-Faction Packs” that were previously available in places like the Lobi Store, and some Lock Box or Promo Packs. The packs we’re referring to are those that contained only the Console, Starship Trait, and similar items, and were offered to members of the opposite faction when a certain premium Starship could not be flown by their chosen faction.
Existing versions of these packs will remain unchanged, but new ones will no longer be accessible. To unlock the features they previously contained, you may now obtain the Starship with which they are associated.

A ship slot is a spot occupied by a ship. Think of it as a docking space. A player only gets a limited number of ship slots and can therefore only have so many ships. A player begins with two ship slots but can get up to 14 (5 initial slots, 6 from promotions + 3 from accolades) through in-game means, or more still by purchasing it from the Zen Store .
Ships may be stored in Dry Dock Slots when not in use.
Ship slots are individual to each character, i.e. if you have 2 empty slots on one character, they cannot be used for ships on another.
As of February 2022; Free account characters start with nine (9) base Ship Slots and can purchase an additional sixty (60) slots from the Zen Store for a total of sixty-nine (69). Lifetime accounts have fifteen (15) base Ship Slots and can purchase an additional sixty (60) slots from the Zen Store for a total of seventy-five (75). Obtaining additional ship slots
Obtaining or purchasing more slots will only apply to one character, with the exception of Veteran Rewards which apply to your entire account. Methods to obtain more:
- Lieutenant Commander
- Rear Admiral, Lower Half / Brigadier General
- Rear Admiral, Upper Half / Major General
- Vice Admiral / Lieutenant General, for a maximum of 6 by ranking up.
- 200 day Veteran Reward adds one ship slot with the accolade Redoubtable
- 500 day Veteran Reward adds another ship slot with the accolade Relentless
- 1000 day Veteran Reward adds another ship slot with the accolades Starfleet Veteran and Empire Veteran , for a maximum of 3 from accolades
- “The Vault” [FED/KDF] adds a ship slot with the accolade Size Doesn't Matter (per character)
- “Small Packages” [ROM] adds a ship slot with the accolade Size Doesn't Matter (per character)
This part of the Promo Bundle has remained unpacked because your character is already at or near the max number of available Starship Slots that may be purchased. This package may be traded to other characters on your account, and applied to any character that is not at/near this upper limit.
Update history
- Maximum ship slots purchasable from the Zen Store increased from 28 on November 3rd, 2011 to 48 on January 30th, 2014 .
- Initial ship slots were increased from 2 to 4 on May 8th, 2014 . [1] . Initial slots seem to have been increased to 5 at some point after this.

The only ships that are account unlocks are c-store ships (zen) and event ships. Lobi ships you buy from the exchange, are account bound UNTIL YOU OPEN THE BOX. After that they are character bound. About the gamma pack its because the pack includes some T5-U ships that previously, as the description says were only available through a lockbox ...
I'm sure this has been asked before, and I wasn't sure where to ask it, but here goes: I'm gearing up to possibly make a purchase of probably either the Odyssey Science Cruiser, (Though I already fly the freebie and wonder if the few extra benefits are worth the money) or the Caitian Atrox Carrier (so I can utilize the full potential of a Commander Science Boff and fighters sound fun.
Purchasing the Arbiter and/or Gagarin from the Zen store will unlock that ship account wide — every character you create will be able to access it without additional purchases. (Caveat: you will need to raise a Klingon character to Level 65 to unlock Cross-Faction Flying to use Federation ships on Klingon Defence Force-aligned characters).
No but if you have the zen version then the fleet version costs 1 module only. No. They're not unlocks but individual items. Same with lobi ships and lockbox ships. Like everyone has said, fleet ships are character bound, not account bound. That being said, there are some ships from the store that come with fleet-grade stats.

Event and C-Store ships are account bound. Yes. Account. It does unlock just like you bought it (account-wide). The Tier 6 ships that are available with this coupon are the ships on the store at the end of December of the year before. So you can not use it on any ships that came out the same year. Account unlock.
The "All" section of the Ships tab lists ship-related slots and items, found in other parts of the Zen Store. Click on any of the columns below to sort them alphabetically, by price, and so forth. Refresh the page to restore the original sorting order. Five Additional Dry Dock slots that may be used by one character on an account.

Meaning all of your characters will have access to the ship you just bought (older characters or future ones that don't even exist yet). Faction restrictions apply however, meaning a Federation character cannot use Klingon ships and vice versa.

Once applied the upgrade should be account-wide for whatever ship you apply it to. If you apply it to a Vengeance on one character, other Vengeances on your account will be upgradeable to T6-X. #1. With the March 26, 2020 patch, most Tier 1 - 4 starships were removed from the Zen Store and were made available as per-character Dilithium unlocks. Ships previously purchased with remain available Account-Wide for reclaim via the Zen Store, or through Ship Vendors at various in-game hubs. The original prices for these ships are as follows:
Many of the ships in the Zen Store are available in discount bundles. For most of these bundles, buying one of the items individually will prevent you from buying that bundle in the future, and in a few cases, this can lock you out of some bundle-exclusive items. These cases are noted below.
As mentioned, Tier 6 ships can be used at any level, and will have some slots locked at lower levels to simulate lower-tier performance. But the devs designed that badly, so they are in fact performing above level. Tier 5 ships have a level minimum of either 40 or 50 depending on the ship.
