Seventh Son Vineyards
January 19, 2024 by Jeff Cope Leave a Comment
If you’re looking for estate wines at a Texas winery, look no further than Seventh Son Vineyards in Wimberley. The winery is owned by Edward “Ned” and Angela Murphy. Ned also provides the winemaker duties while he works with another winemaker at a custom crush facility.
When you arrive at the winery, you’ll be greeted by an automatic gate that is closed. A sign informs you though that if you pull forward, the gate will open. Traveling down the curvy driveway in the woods, you’ll eventually arrive at the tasting room near the estate vineyard.
The couple planted Mourvèdre in a test block in 2016 and more was planted in 2018. Picpoul Blanc was planted in 2019 and since they learned it flourished in their soil, they planted more in 2023. Other varieties planted are Montepulciano and Tempranillo for a total of 3.5 acres under vine. The tasting room opened July 2021.
The tasting room building has a log cabin feel to it with stone and rustic wood siding culminating in an attractive building. The interior continues the look of stone and rustic wood with a gorgeous interior featuring a stone fireplace, tables, lounge chairs, and a U-shaped tasting bar.
I met Ned Murphy, and he was the one who provided my wine tasting. There are three tasting flights provided if you decide not to enjoy a glass of wine:
- 2022 Seventh Son Estate Picpoul Blanc
- 2022 Trans Pecos Sauvignon Blanc (off-dry, West Texas)
- 2022 Hill Country Mourvèdre Rosé (Driftwood vineyard)
- 2020 Hill Country Sangiovese (Driftwood vineyard)
- 2020 Hill Country Mourvèdre (Driftwood vineyard)
- 2020 Hill Country Tempranillo (Driftwood vineyard)
- 2021 Seventh Son Estate Mourvèdre
- 2021 Seventh Son Estate Montepulciano
Since I was at a winery with an estate vineyard and wines, I opted for the Estate Wines tasting which cost more than the other two tastings, but it was well worth it. The estate wines are higher priced than the other wines because of the limited quantities currently available.
I was impressed with the wine at Seventh Son Vineyards. The word has not gotten out yet where they are a recognizable name which helps at the moment because of the limited quantities of wine. But it will not take long before the word will spread, and people will be heading to the new estate winery in Wimberley.

We produce a wide range of wines from grapes grown in the Lehigh Valley AVA. The microclimate (characterized by dry summers and long cool autumns) is perfect for ripening grapes and similar to that of the northern Burgundy region of France, as well as the southern part of the Loire Valley. This March, take time to explore Washington's wonderful food and wine
During Washington Wine Month, many wineries and restaurants are offering package deals, wine classes, dinners and tastings. It’s the perfect time to taste and learn about wine and what foods to pair with that bottle in front of you.
Washington state is second in the nation’s production of wine. And what better way to celebrate wine than at the largest single region wine tasting in the United States -- Taste Washington. This is a wonderful opportunity to taste great wines and learn about wine from about 600 offered. As a bonus, winemakers are on hand to talk about their wines, the vintage and how they make it is another pretty nice perk.
There are over 60 restaurants serving delectable bites to pair with that wine in your glass. Some of the fabulous restaurants include Art of the Table, Artusi, Barking Frog (YUM!), Columbia Tower Club (another Yum!), Daniel’s Artisan, Della Terra, Mainstay Provisions, Marimakan Crabhouse, Matt's in the Market (YUM!) Nell Thorn Waterfront Bar & Bistro, Palace Kitchen, Pike Place Chowder, Vintxo by Valdemar Estates, Seashucked, Seattle Samosa, Shooby Doo Catering, Sorrel (YUM!), Stilos Kitchen & Bar, STK Steakhouse, Street Treats, Superkim Crab House, Surrell, Swine Dining (love this name! It has to be great), Tamale my life, The Fat Pastor, The and last but not least, Where Ya at Matt.
This multi-day event begins on March 14th and ends on the 24th, with 11 unique events. Tickets to Taste Washington events are available on their website – TasteWashington.org. Tickets for Dinner Series and Sunday Brunch will be available the week of March 5.
Like many events that shut down for a few years during COVID, Taste Washington has restructured some of the events. But the Grand Tasting remains and this is where I’ll be spending my time doing intensive research.
The organizers, Washington State Wine Commission and SE Productions, along with a boat load of volunteers start setting up Lumen Field for the Grand Tasting a couple days before the event. Wineries unload boxes of wines they’re pouring over the two days on Friday. They’ll also bring their décor to their booth.
An army of volunteers makes set up a breeze. Swag bags are assembled, wine glasses are unpacked, carpets are laid, and stages are set. Coat racks, tables, chairs, signs, table covers, dump buckets, and water pitchers for two hundred plus wineries and 60 restaurants are made ready on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, March 14, prepare to embark on a culinary journey Pacific Northwest style. From tasty crab cakes to succulent oysters, every bite is a taste of the Pacific Northwest. Indulge in the finest seafood offerings prepared by ten acclaimed chefs and perfectly complemented with whites, roses, and sparkling wines from twenty well-known wineries.
Special tastings of Washington wine with industry experts, winemakers and panelists weighing in during the seminars. Located at the Embassy Suites Seattle in Pioneer Square. You can choose between three fascinating seminars on Saturday, March 16:
Washington’s Rhône Revolution
The first planting of Syrah vines in Washington happened almost 40 years ago. David Lake planted Syrah in Mike Sauer’s Red Willow Vineyard. Red Willow, an iconic vineyard first planted in 1971.
Sauer brought cuttings from one of the few vineyards in California that was growing Syrah at the time. He put them in his vineyard nursery for a year before planting them in 1986. Four years later, the floodgates for Rhône varieties in the Columbia Valley opened. In the ensuing decades, Washington has proven to make Syrah shine, Mourvèdre marvel, and gorgeous Grenache.
Boundary Breakers: Washington’s founding icons and modern mavericks
Mavericks of yesteryear are today's icons. How did we get here, and where are today’s modern mavericks taking us? With acclaimed wine entrepreneur Maryam Ahmed, this seminar brings together industry pioneers and the fearless trailblazers who are making new waves. Washington's past, present, and future is explored with its unique approaches, notable leaps of faith, and the inevitable mistakes that teach new lessons.
Washington vs. the world: The ultimate blind tasting
With a slate of high scores from world-renowned critics to growing international acclaim, Washington has emerged as the hub for great winemaking. Alongside a panel of Washington winemakers and industry experts, this presentation includes a selection of top Washington wines in a challenge against top contenders from around the world. It’s a blind tasting extravaganza, where you are the judge, your palate the jury to determine the ultimate champions.
An acknowledgement of the Washington Wine Commission
The Washington State Wine Commission represents every licensed winery and wine grape grower in Washington State. It is guided by an appointed board, and provides a marketing platform to raise awareness of the Washington State wine industry and generate greater demand for its wines. It is funded almost entirely by the industry through assessments based on grape and wine sales. The Wine Commission is a state government agency, established by the legislature in 1987.
Mary Earl has been educating Kitsap wine lovers for a couple of decades, is a longtime member of the West Sound Brew Club and can pair a beer or wine dinner in a flash. She volunteers for the Clear Creek Trail and is a longtime supporter of Silverdale. Contact her at [email protected].

Watch: nick dunlap makes ace on 7th hole during 2024 cognizant classic, share this article.
Nick Dunlap has a flair for the dramatic.
Last year, he won the U.S. Amateur, becoming only the second golfer ever to win the U.S. Junior and Amateur, joining Tiger Woods. In January, he became the first amateur in 33 years to win on the PGA Tour, taking the American Express title.
On Friday, he added another bullet point to his resume: first ace as a PGA Tour member.
Dunlap has struggled since turning pro, but he seems to have found something this week during the 2024 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. On the par-3 seventh hole, Dunlap hit a cut to a front right hole location, and his ball took one bounce before rolling out and finding the bottom of the cup.
🚨 ACE ALERT 🚨 @NickDunlap62 records the first hole-in-one of his career in just his 7th TOUR start to move to one back of the lead! (Presented by @CocaCola ) pic.twitter.com/jcDxbv2W6S — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) March 1, 2024
The shot moved him to 8 under for the tournament, one shot off leaders Kevin Yu and Victor Perez, who each played in the morning wave.
For Dunlap, the ace helped put him in position to make his first cut since turning professional.
He finished last at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, an event with no cut and only 80 players in the field. Then he missed the cut at the 70-man Genesis Invitational.
Now, he’s looking for his first win as a professional, and he has an ace in his pocket.

While we certainly aim to inspire, as always we recommend using these suggestions merely as a jumping-off point for your own Paris research. So with that out of the way - on we go!
Restaurants
Chez l'Ami Jean
A long-standing staple of the 7th thanks to its inventive bistronomie cuisine by chef Stéphane Jégo. Save space for the rice pudding.
27 rue Malar
La Fontaine de Mars
Opened in 1908 on the lovely rue Saint Dominique, this classic Paris bistro serves all the classics - cassoulet, foie gras, confit de canard, andouillette, filet de boeuf...
129 rue Saint Dominique
For a little Basque influence, Pottoka leans towards the fancy in what is - let's face it - quite a fancy side of town. A great option for an upscale yet affordable lunch with style.
4 rue de l'Exposition
A tiny little restaurant with an understated sense of style, Plume is another great spot for an elegant lunch with imagination, beauty and flair.
24 Rue Pierre Leroux
Bistrot Belhara
Sometimes, you just need a refined neighbourhood option with a cosy feel and high-quality ingredients. This might just be it.
23 rue Duvivier
Something a little fancy...
This address needs little introduction - Alain Passard's celebrated hymn to the natural goodness of vegetables.
84, Rue de Varenne
With a grand location overlooking the Esplanade des Invalides, this elegant, modern fish restaurant has the son of triple Michelin Star chef Bernard Pacaud at its helm -Matthieu Pacaud. So you'll be in very good hands while you enjoy the very good food.
18, Rue Fabert
Sylvestre Wahid**
A modern, luminous restaurant (illuminated further by its two Michelin Stars), Sylvestre Wahid is not your stuffy gastronomic experience but a luxurious taste adventure.
79 Rue Saint-Dominique
Loiseau Rive-Gauche*
Refined, elegant Michelin Star dining - it might stretch your wallet but it might just be worth it... Expect fascinating, thought-provoking tasting menus.
5 Rue De Bourgogne
Le Jules Verne
Of course we couldn't mention the 7th without featuring Le Jules Verne, Frédéric Anton's restaurant atop the Eiffel Tower. If you can make peace with the price tag, you're promised something very special.
The Eiffel Tower
On the lovely rue Cler, this cosy bar with laidback beach-house vibes serves great cocktails in a laidback low-lit setting. Opt for the terrasse if you want to watch the world go by. Also available for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner...
32 rue Cler
Au Sauvignon
Great for a glass of wine and some charcuterie, this classic little neighbourhood bar and restaurant is a local favourite.
80, rue des Saints-Pères
Fitzgerald
This may be a restaurant but behind a hidden-ish door you'll find a great cocktail bar for pre-dinner drinks, speakeasy style. Speaking of which, if you're looking for a map of Paris' speakeasies, you'll find one amongst our Handy Maps.
54 Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg
Speaking of speakeasies, Gatsby is another drinking den with some secretive style, just a few minutes from the Eiffel Tower.
64 avenue Bosquet
Rosa Bonheur sur Seine
Why be by the Seine when you can be on it? This sister bar to the famous Rosa Bonheur in the Buttes Chaumont is a huge barge that's great for early drinks or late night parties. Also a good lunch spot when it's a little quieter!
Quai d'Orsay, Port des Invalides
Honourable Mentions
La Grande Epicerie
Of course not all food addresses are restaurants! Explore your gastronomic side with an adventure in the Bon Marché's sister epicerie, with everything your heart desires.
38 rue des Sèvres
Lastre Sans Apostrophe
A master of all things Paté, this amazing boutique is the work of Yohan Lastre - check out his creations on Instagram right here .
188 rue de Grenelle
One of the most popular streets in the 7th, rue Cler is a pedestrianised street with everything you need to fill your Paris kitchen, from fromageries and boulangeries to tea shops, cocktail bars, bistros, gift shops and more.
rue Saint Dominique
Another major artery of the 7th arrondissement, rue Saint Dominique has more of an upscale shopping atmosphere to it with plenty of boutiques, as well as cafes, bars and bistros to punctuate your retail therapy.
One of the big names on the roastery circuit, Coutume's beans appear in restaurants and cafés across the city - but nowhere are they more at home at Coutume's own café! Industrial chic and with plenty to recommend it - coffee and foodwise - this is an oasis of good coffee in a pretty barren coffeescape!
47 Rue de Babylone
Owned by a group of friends, this family-friendly café also doubles as a little boutique for lovingly selected epicerie items and lovely bits-and-bobs. Homely and chic, it's a café with good vibes just a few minutes' walk from the Eiffel Tower.
184 Rue de Grenelle
Open seven days a week, this coffee shop and casual café is a coffee and brunch highlight of the 7th.
22 avenue de Tourville

A Food Festival Moves to Brooklyn
Order the perfect chicken for coq au vin, try a Croatian amaro and more food news.
By Florence Fabricant
The Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami just wrapped up this year’s run. Next stop: the New York edition, scheduled for Oct. 17 through 20, but with a big difference. It’s moving its largest events to Brooklyn, to the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park. A 450,000-foot sprawl will contain the walk-around Grand Tasting and a host of activities like parties on Pier 4, including a Best of Brooklyn showcase with a capacity for 2,500 attendees. Though Brooklyn will be the focus, the often exclusive Manhattan restaurant events for which the festival is known will continue to be held. “We look forward to welcoming more Brooklyn chefs and partners to this year’s events,” said Lee Brian Schrager, the founder and director. A full schedule and ticket availability will be announced this summer. The festival supports God’s Love We Deliver.

The Perfect Chicken for Coq au Vin
“She’s no spring chicken” can be a compliment. Heritage Foods, which sells meat and poultry from heritage breeds produced by farmers throughout the country, is now selling chicken parts and whole birds from the Good Shepherd Network that have been allowed to mature for at least a year longer than is typical of the usual broiler. (This is the chicken to use for traditional stewed chicken dishes like coq au vin .) Since most coq au vin recipes have not been written for these older birds, you will probably want to double the simmering time to at least two hours to tenderize their firmer flesh and use more liquid. You might also note how much more fat clings to the parts, and how richly golden it is. It’s worth removing most of it to render for use in frying potatoes and other dishes.
Stewing Chickens, $35 for two to three pounds, heritagefoodsusa.com .
All About Jang
What ketchup is to the American table, jang is to the Korean table, a comprehensive condiment. And there’s more than one choice: You have ganjang, doenjang and gochujang, all with a base of fermented soybeans. On March 12 at 6 p.m. at the James Beard Foundation’s Platform, Mingoo Kang, whose restaurant Mingles in Seoul has two Michelin stars and who is an author of the cookbook “Jang,” will demonstrate four easily prepared dishes using the sauces. He will be joined by his co-authors, Joshua David Stein and Nadia Cho, and there will be a tasting of the food with Korean beverages. Those attending will be able to buy the book.

Global Recipes Organized by Age Level
Organized according to regions — Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas — then featuring countries within each, “A Taste of the World” is a palate-broadening, family-style cookbook. It collects more than 60 recipes, labeled with stars according to the appropriate age level, starting at 3 to 8 years, that showcase mostly classic dishes with step-by-step color photos. Japanese cabbage pancake okonomiyaki, Swedish meat balls with pickled cucumbers, Ethiopian red lentil stew, Peruvian lomo saltado and American crab cakes with coleslaw are some of them. Many are made with ground meat or tofu, and deploy bouillon cubes, garlic powder and other shortcuts. Side dishes like grains are given for most of them and the book is seasoned with bits of information about each country. Dietary indications like nuts and gluten are given as are vegetarian and vegan options.

A Croatian Amaro That Dates to 1862
The increasingly crowded field of amaros is dominated by Italian contenders. But there are some outliers from other countries that deserve recognition. Croatia’s latest contribution is a bittersweet, coffee-colored blend of more than 40 botanicals, Antique Pelinkovac, from Badel 1862. It’s alluring on the rocks with a twist of orange peel and works beautifully in cocktails, including a Sazerac, as its brochure suggests, and to “correct” that after-dinner espresso, as the Italians might have it. Badel 1862, said to be Croatia’s largest producer of wines and spirits, has been making it on and off since 1862, and after a limited introduction in New York in 2022, it’s now available nationally.

Milled in Massachusetts for Bakers
Ground Up, in Holyoke, Mass., grinds grains grown in the Northeast into flours. Their stone-ground white and whole wheat, light and dark rye, barley, spelt and corn, previously sold only locally at the mill and in stores, are now shipped nationally. The wheat flour comes in all-purpose, pastry, pizza and bread, each with a different gluten level. Ancient grains is a blend with spelt and barley. Some of the flours are organic, and there are dedicated bundles for sourdough and breads. Flours start at $6.50 for three pounds of whole wheat or pastry flour. The company also sells wheat berries.

The second option has eight coupons (red design) and is $61 for regular guests. It’s $56 for Magic Key holders.
The pass is a plastic badge on a black lanyard. The coupons are all digital, just like the passes for this year’s Lunar New Year celebration . Guests have a Cast Member at the venue scan their pass, then enter the 4-digit code on the back. The receipt will state how many coupons are left on the pass. Coupons expire when the festival ends.
The code is covered with a sticker when you get the pass.
Coupons can be redeemed for select eligible food and non-alcoholic beverages at Festival Marketplaces and participating dining locations. At the latter, the Sip and Savor offerings are tasting-size portions, not full entrées.

Excellent wine suggestions. Driver was very knowledgeable of the touring region and extremely helpful. He kept us on schedule and made great adjustments. Highly recommended..
Deanna and Wine Tour Drivers were FANTASTIC both helping with planning and during our trip. Deanna was great with recommendations for wineries and restaurants as well as working with our van rental company to coordinate driving our van. Deanna was cooperative picking up lunches while we were tasting. Deanna knew routes and times as well as how to avoid traffic when needed. I couldn't recommend Deanna and Wine Tour Drivers any more highly!

Thank you Roger! It was a fun 3 days up in the Sierra Foothills areas! Cheers Deanna
We had such a great time with 2 spott ( Jonathan). He was so informative and kind! He brought cheese and chocolate for snacks and a great spot when in the last minute, we decided we wanted to eat and switched up the plans and made it happen. We visited 3 wineries and made it to each one safely and well informed. Would absolutely use this company and ask for 2 spott again! Thank you for the memorable day.

Thanks Kim! I have not heard that nickname for Jonathan before - love it!
Hiring a driver from this company was a no-brainer! As a group of 9 touring wine country, it made absolute sense to enjoy a full day of tastings and vineyards without the stress of driving. The added bonus was the assistance I received to help plan our itinerary and pick the vineyards that appealed to us the most. Our driver was courteous, punctual, and she did an amazing job "herding the cats!" HAHA! Not to mention, she handled our large van easily and capably! We really appreciated her friendly attitude and professionalism.
It was a great idea to get a driver for two days for our wine trip! They will drive your rental car and are licensed to do that! Deanna contacted me after I booked them to plan things out. I had already booked majority of my group's tastings but we had time to squeeze in one more. Deanna gave options which I loved cause she had details about the places too! Our driver was Erin and he was really nice. He called the day before to introduce himself and answer any questions. He arrived like 15 min early the first day and was really professional but still personable at the same time. He gave reminders when it was like 10 minutes before time to leave and took pictures for my group. I highly recommend them for anyone's future Napa/Sonoma winery trips! It makes the day more enjoyable and safe! It's also nice to have someone help keep track time for you cause there may be places you go that you stay longer. Erin also called one of our wineries to let us know we were going to be late. My friends and I have planned to come back to Napa every other year or so and honestly having such a driver made a big positive difference. Book a driver with this group for your next winery trip! They are priced fair and Erin was a good driver!
Robert and Jennifer were both great drivers and very knowledgeable about wine country. We thoroughly enjoyed spending our vineyard visiting days with them. Wine Tour Drivers made our trip special and worry-free. Deanna was fabulous at helping us plan out itinerary and communication with her was easy and effective. We highly recommend!
Totally worth the price. Deanna followed up on my reservation to make sure that we were ready with our experience. When I told her that it was our first time in wine country, she made things happen. Dylan was prompt, professional and so so resourceful. They made the short get away completely stress free. First class service all the way. Definitely would do again.

Thank you Scott! We aim to make your experience with us stress free and memorable! We look forward to your next trip! Cheers Deanna
From initial booking to the day of tour everything was great! Deanna helped me plan 4 wineries to visit in a day. She recommended several that weren't on my radar and ended up being some of the favorites of the day. Robert our driver arrived early and brought plenty of water to get us through the day. He was very knowledgeable about the Napa Valley and made the day even more enjoyable. Highly recommend using this service especially to be able to enjoy Napa safely.
Highly recommend Wine Tour Drivers! Our girls weekend group of 4 had the best time visiting wineries in and around Healdsburg without having to stress out about driving. Dylan our driver was prompt, courteous and helped make our day memorable. Planning and booking was a breeze through the form on the website and subsequent follow-up emails with Deanna. Will be using them again for sure when we decide to visit wine country!
We had a great experience with Wine Tour Drivers! From booking our experience to communication day-of was excellent! The company was so helpful and accommodating with our needs and Jennifer (our driver) was amazing! She was so knowledgeable about the area and wineries! This really made our trip and we can't wait to come back and book again with this company! If you're looking for a safe and easy way to travel around and enjoy the wineries, this is the company to book with!

Moscow Metro
Introduction of moscow subway system (metro).
Nowadays the Moscow Metro has 12 lines, light subway and monorail. All stations are unique and beautiful in their own way. Unfortunately, in order to visit them all, you need to spend many days. I invite guests to visit the ones that have the greatest cultural and historical interest from my point of view. Among them are the Revolution Square, Arbatskaya, Kievskaya (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line № 3); Kievskaya, Belarusskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya (the Ring line number 5). Let us dwell a bit on each.
Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line
Subway station "revolution square".
Most recently - in the year 2008-2010 – the Eastern lobby was renovated. Because of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway that took place several hours before the planned opening of the East lobby after renovation, the solemn part of the event was canceled.
Subway station Arbatskaya
Subway Arbatskaya is located on the same subway line as the station "Revolution Square." It was founded in 1953. It received the name in honor of the Arbat Street. It has one ground lobby (Western). Initially, the lobby was in a separate building, but the new building of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense started, the lobby appeared to be in its atrium. The old exits were bricked up; a new entrance was built into the building of General Staff of the street Vozdvizhenka. There is a huge frame with a missing portrait in the ground lobby - until mid-1950 there was a portrait of Stalin. According to some reports, it survived, but closed with plaster.
The lobby was restored and partially reconstructed in 2007-2008.
The depth of the station is 41 meters.
Pylons are finished with red marble at the bottom, decorated with bouquets of flowers made from ceramics. The floor is laid out with gray granite. The walls lined with glazed ceramic tiles, white top and black bottom. The station hall is illuminated by massive bronze chandeliers in the form of rings.
Subway station Kievskaya
There are several subway stations "Kievskaya" in Moscow, located on different branches. This name is quite popular. It comes from the capital of Ukraine - one of Russia's nearest neighbors - the city of Kiev. The name is fully consistent with the idea of the subway station. The interior the station devoted to Soviet Ukraine and the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of paintings .Twenty four murals depicting workers of Soviet Ukraine are placed on the arch above the pylons. The wall from the side of platform also contains frescos, mainly with images of fantastic plants. Pylons are decorated with light marble and additionally decorated with colorful ceramic cornice. The butt of the station has a large mosaic, depicting festivities to celebrate the 300 anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.
Opened in 1953, this subway station for a long time was the final (1953-2003).
The station has one lobby, combined with the station ring line and located in the building of the Kievskaya railway station. The diameter of the central hall station is 9.5 m, the diameter of side one is 8.5 m. The depth of the station is 38 meters.
= Ring Line Subway =
It opened in 1954. The station received its name after the Kiev station, and locked the Ring line. During the construction of the station many projects were proposed, but the victory in the competition won the Kiev architects who made the construction of the station. It is the only station of the Ring Line which is not located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow.
The station has a pylon structure. Eighteen pylons are decorated with mosaic panels of glazes, decorated on the theme of Ukrainian history and friendship between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which started in the mid-17 century.
On the front wall of the central hall of the station a large panel with molding in the form of flags and a mosaic portrait of Lenin in the center are located. There are lines of the Soviet national anthem around the portrait, and under the portrait - the words of Lenin. One of the ways out of the station was designed by French architects modeled on the Paris Subway in 2006.
At one of the mosaics – “The Struggle for Soviet power in Ukraine "- modern passengers observe a mobile phone and PDA in the hand of one of the guerrillas, and on his knees - a laptop. In fact, he uses a field telephone, which was really a heavy thing (guerrillas holds it in two hands), and thing that people see a laptop is the lid of a box with a telephone. However, these phones have begun to produce only in the second half of the 20-ies of XX century. We must assume that the mosaic depicts a foreign field telephone transmitter.
Subway station Belorusskaya
The founded of the station was in 1952. It received the name after the Belarusian railway station nearby. The station has two ground-based lobbies. The Western one goes to Tverskaya Zastava. It is decorated with beautiful carvings. The Eastern one leads to Butyrskiy shaft and Forest Street. The Eastern lobby is known for its majolica panels.
The station Belorusskaya is located at a depth of 42.5 m below ground. The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters.
Pylons are faced with light marble. The walls lined with white ceramic tiles, the floor is covered with ceramic tiles, gray, white and red colors. Lamps placed on pylons, in the form of vases made of glass and marble. The theme of decoration is economy and culture of Belarus. Decorative pattern on the floor repeats the theme of traditional Belarusian embroidery. Decorations of the ceiling consist of stucco decorations and 12 mosaic panels depicting the life of the Belarusian people.
Subway station Novoslobodskaya
Built in 1952, Subway station Novoslobodskaya got its name from the eponymous street: the station is located at the very beginning of it.
Novoslobodskaya is pylon station of deep foundation (its depth is 40 m) with three arches.
Exit to the street is through the ground lobby with column portico, located on Novoslobodskaya Street lined with gray marble. Pylons of the underground station are faced with marble from the Urals. Thirty two spectacularly illuminated stained-glasses, placed inside the pylon and bordered by steel and gilt brass are splendid decoration of the station. A remarkable mosaic "World Peace" is located at the end of the central hall. The picture depicts a happy mother with a baby in her arms; it was the face of Stalin at the picture: the child gave a hand to him. But in times of Khrushchev the face of the former leader of USSR was removed from the panel. The walls are lined with bright marble; floor is covered with white and black granite slabs, placed in a checkerboard pattern.
Subway station Komsomolskaya
The station was built in 1952 and named in honor of the Komsomolskaya Square, which is situated nearby.
This subway station is the station of the deep bedding. Its depth is 37 meters. The station has column and three- arched design. Cast iron decoration is used in the construction, monolithic slab used as a tray for a collapsible finishing. The length of the boarding hall is 190 meters; width of it is 10 meters. There are 68 octagonal columns at station.
The main theme of the interior of the station is the fighting of the Russian people for their independence. The ceiling is decorated with eight station mosaic mural made from glazes and precious stones. Six of them represent the Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov and Mikhail Kutuzov, the Soviet soldiers and officers at the walls of the Reichstag.
Two other panels, depicting Stalin ("Victory Parade" and "Presentation of the Guards Banner"), were replaced after the dethronement of Stalin's personality cult in 1963. New panels depict Lenin's speech in front of the Red Guards and the Motherland on the background of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower.
The yellow ceiling is decorated with mosaic and moldings. The hall is illuminated by massive chandeliers hanging between the panels; platforms are illuminated with smaller chandeliers. The columns are decorated with marble capitals and trimmed with light marble, as well as the wall station. The floor is laid with pink granite. There is a bust of Lenin at the end of the hall. At the opposite end of the escalator is a large Florentine mosaic of the Order of Victory with red banners on the background. The ground lobby of the station is decorated with bas-reliefs.
In conclusion...
Each of the stations of the Moscow subway is attractive and interesting in its own way. Each has its own long and fascinating history and is beautifully decorated. The Moscow subway is a whole world, which can be talking about for hours. I suggest you short - no more than one hour and a half - and a fascinating journey through the world of the Moscow subway. The pleasure is guaranteed!

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.
Know More about this tour
We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.
