In 2016, BLACKPINK took its first steps toward K-pop greatness. Thanks to YG Entertainment, members Kim Jisoo, Jennie Kim, Roseanne Park, and Lalisa Manobal joined together to create what would become one of the most popular girl groups in South Korean music.
BLACKPINK’s talents in hip-hop and dance-pop helped the all-female squad get ahead early.
BLACKPINK kicked things off with its album Square One. Featuring songs “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” Square One reinvented typical K-pop elements with an edgier trap-style energy. Eventually, this would become BLACKPINK’s signature sound.
“Whistle” and “Boombayah” left lasting impressions not only in South Korea, but in the U.S. as well. Following its swift climb up the charts, BLACKPINK released Square Two in late 2016. Square Two was a massive success thanks to the tracks “Playing with Fire” and “Stay.” Soon enough, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to land on the Canadian music charts.
The group’s next single “As If It’s Your Last” hit the airwaves in 2017 and paved the way for a stellar Japanese debut. The group’s self-titled EP included re-recorded Japanese versions of previous songs. After soaring to the top of Japan’s charts, the group followed up in 2018 with Re:BLACKPINK, a re-release of the EP which included both Korean- and Japanese-language versions of each track.
BLACKPINK’s rise took the ultimate turn with its 2018 EP Square Up. International hit single “DDU-DU DDU-DU” was the perfect example of high-energy “K-trap.” The song’s accompanying music video became one of the most-watched K-pop videos on YouTube, with over one billion views. It was no surprise the track also landed BLACKPINK a coveted spot on the Billboard Hot 100, a first for any all-female K-pop group.
The band’s worldwide popularity shifted as they sealed a deal with Interscope/Universal. Later in 2018, a highly-anticipated collaboration alongside popstar and label partner Dua Lipa on “Kiss and Make Up” set BLACKPINK up for more global success. After the song left a memorable mark on the U.S. and U.K. charts, the girl group released another Japanese-language compilation titled BLACKPINK in Your Area.
In 2019, the K-pop quartet expanded its discography with another top-notch EP. Kill This Love set the tone for the band’s upcoming worldwide debut. BLACKPINK’s next single “How You Like That” was its seventh track to climb high on the global charts, proving the band was an international force to be reckoned with.
In addition to Dua Lipa, the group worked closely with pop phenoms like Lady Gaga on “Sour Candy” and Selena Gomez on “Ice Cream.” By securing these collabs, the K-pop band set the standard for their full-length debut.
Due to long-lasting success, BLACKPINK embarked on numerous tours. A string of arena performances from 2018 to 2020 spanned across the globe and kept the band’s popularity at an all-time high. Dedicated fans saw the all-female quartet up close and personal as it put on a must-see show.
2020’s The Album was BLACKPINK’s first full-length studio album, with eight high-energy tracks – including “Bet You Wanna,” featuring rapper Cardi B. With this collaboration and more dance-pop vibes, The Album cemented next-level acclaim among fans and fellow musicians. The LP took well-deserved top spots in countries like South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.
BLACKPINK’s sophomore album Born Pink took the world by storm in 2022. No one could deny its power, especially after the release of lead single “Pink Venom.” Other favorites like “Shut Down” helped Born Pink set more records for the K-pop genre. In its first week, the LP hit number one in the U.S.
Live reviews
The concert was more than I ever imagined! I love the group, I love the girls, I love the songs and dances!!! The experience was unforgettable beacuse I enjoy listening to their music nonstop and now i saw and heard all songs live! I am so lucky!
But my experience before the concert was a disaster... The thibgs started with the endless queue for merchedinse. I waited for two hours and in the end they told me the lightsticks were sold out? That was so disappointing for me and all people in the queue. Also, yes it was long queue but there were not ever a barricades or anything to keep the lines from queue passing!!! So many people just came and went in the front adn nobody can say anything because they do not have proofe.
Another thing, when the doors opened at 18:30-18:40 nobody entered because the crawd( it was not even a queue) was not even moving a meter! Then the concert started 40mins later because the entering was not orgainsed at all! I am absolutely disappointed by the organisation but at least I tried my best to enjoy the show and one of my favourite groups!

Wow this concert was absolutely amazing. It’s so much better than I expected. I knew it was going to be great but wow... it was amazing. The atmosphere of the concert was outstanding. Even when they just put music videos on at the start everyone was screaming to them. The girls were so nice and were very interactive with the audience. My dad who doesn’t like Kpop enjoyed the concert as well. I’d really recommend seeing this concert.
Omg this show in london was amazing. The energy and atmosphere stay alive all night making the concert fun all the way through. each member did so well as well as jennie, the videos of her being lazy completely cancel out as she was energetic the whole night. they interact with the audience and not just sing and dance. They are so cute and make it enjoyable all the way through. Jisoo is also the cutest thing ever you have to see her live

It was my first BlackPink concert and I can say that they are truly the best and hottest girlgroup ever. The concert was full with excitement and emotions. Everyone had so much fun and the girls too. BLACKPINK Kick Off Massive “BORN PINK World Tour” in Dallas: Review and Setlist
The K-pop superstars are back in our area
After two nights in Seoul, BLACKPINK kicked off the North American leg of their “BORN PINK World Tour” (grab tickets here ) with a thunderous show at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Tuesday (October 25th).
At the first of two shows in Dallas, the K-pop girl group’s impact could be clocked before you even entered the building. Fans were dressed in fashionable outfits reminiscent of the band’s signature style, and once inside the venue, merch lines wrapped around the halls. Attendees were then treated to the pre-show playlist of their dreams: BLACKPINK music videos were on repeat, each one met with cheers as if the band had performed them in person.
When BLACKPINK (comprised of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa) went on at 8:11 p.m., the general admission section was only two-thirds full and several empty seats could be spotted before the lights went down. If you were going off of screams alone, however, you wouldn’t know otherwise.
BLACKPINK’s fans, or BLINKS, are intensely dedicated, and their energy filled the room at the American Airlines Center. There were several moments throughout the show where the band would engage in banter, engaging with both one another and the audience with comments about their love for Dallas and their excitement to be back on tour. These moments could barely be heard over the sound of cheers and fans begging for their favorite member to look their way.
As for the music, BLACKPINK is known for energetic and bombastic electropop bangers, and their production design matched that energy. The show featured several costume changes, intricate choreography, a chorus of dancers and a full rock backing band that the girls thanked by name individually halfway through the set.

Fans were equipped with lightsticks shaped like hearts, pumping them to the beat of hits like “Kill This Love” and “Pink Venom,” and illuminating the stands with a pink glow. Multiple confetti firings and pyrotechnic moments throughout the night fortified the group’s reputation for having zero subtlety.

What Is Blackpink’s Song Setlist For ‘The Born Pink World Tour?’
Blackpink are having a massive year, if that isn’t obvious. Fans had high hopes for their album Born Pink , and let’s just say the group delivered, at least according to the widespread appreciation of the record . Elyanna and Tali Marjieh on the Elyanna Tour, Sisterhood, and Styling the World of a “Sad, Angry Angel”
By Donya Momenian
In the midst of New York Fashion Week , Irving Plaza was an unexpected destination for style inspiration. This wasn’t a runway. It was a concert, an Elyanna concert, to be exact.
The 22-year-old Palestinian-Chilean singer from Nazareth has been a topic of conversation in pop culture since she played a monumental set at Coachella and earned sets at Governors Ball and Lollapalooza , for her captivating vocals and distinct style. Best known for her thick, curly hair, henna-painted arms, and stacks of gold jewelry, Elyanna has created an unmistakable signature aesthetic.
The influence was palpable on Feb. 10 at Irving Plaza, where droves of fans filled the sold-out venue dressed in their best Elyanna-inspired outfits — think coin jewelry, lace, curly hair, and bold eyeliner. To much anticipation, Elyanna took the stage in an ethereal white mock-neck dress with sheer balloon sleeves and a lace-trimmed slit skirt complete with matching leg warmers.
“This was my first tour ever, so I was really trying to explore and see what I like onstage and what I don't,” Elyanna tells Teen Vogue . “And we wanted to build a whole theme for it in every aspect, honestly, when it comes to the stage production, when it comes to the music, when it comes to anything in the Elyanna world.”
Creating that world is not a one-person job, but rather a family affair. In fact, the words she uses to best describe her world—“sad, angry angel”—are borrowed from her siblings. While her brother helps Elyanna craft her music , her style is entrusted to her sister, Tali Marjieh.
“When it comes to the styling, the fashion and everything, to me it's like no one knows me and no one knows my body, and no one really has an eye when it comes to being onstage,” Elyanna says. “And it's not easy to design something for someone onstage because you have to take care of all the technical things. It's not only about, ‘Oh, it looks pretty’ No. It's about being super technical, which I know that Tali worked so hard on. But it's very themed-out, and it's very intentional, and I know that Tali was super detailed about it.”
To many, the prospect of working with siblings, especially under the conditions on tour, like close quarters and short timelines, might sound like a struggle. But these two seem to have it all figured out.
“Usually, I'll bring the idea because I think it looks nice,” Marjieh tells Teen Vogue . “She tells me more of what her body would feel comfortable in and what she thinks would look better onstage.” Their collaborative system relies on creativity and a knack for the arts. “Yes, I design and I draw, but she designs too,” Marjieh says. “We have a whole sketchbook, and then I start drawing, she starts drawing, we put it all together, and that's how we start. But she trusts me with fabrics and the details.”
However, they both admit that they do fight a lot. Marjieh explains, “We're both very stressed. She's stressed over a lot of things. I'm like, Okay, how do we make her happy?
“It's a fun process, but I got to tell you the bad and the good,” Elyanna says, joking.
It’s understandable. New York City was just one stop of 10 on Elyanna’s less-than-one-month tour in the United States. The team traveled from city to city together in a van. Though they took it in jest — even using the van as a backdrop to show their trendy off-stage style too — with just hours to cross state lines and prep for the next show, there were plenty of challenges.
“There were some times where she had to create a fit in one day,” Elyanna says, referring to Marjieh. “So, it was very exciting and inspiring to see.” Being short on time, however, doesn’t mean there’s any less thought put into it. For the tour, Elyanna wore three looks and the grand finale was a drapey, sheer, black lace dress adorned in gold coins. “Even the black look was more of a story, and we did it in two days,” Marjieh says. “We're like, ‘Okay, let's go. I'm going to get fabrics. Tomorrow, the girls are going to come. You try it on, we're going to cut it on you.’”
People often say, “It takes a village.” Sometimes, a village isn’t where we physically are, it's a shared culture that connects us miles apart. Such is the sisters' case. Their work and success have inspired many young Arab creatives. And they helped Elyanna’s world come to life, just like her family.
“I think in every city, we found fashion students and they were mostly Arabs and they just wanted to do it and they were so happy,” Marjieh says, about their open call for fashion students who were interested in being styling assistants for the shows. “I felt like all of them know Elyanna by now. I know that they watch the videos. I know they watch her live. They know. It feels like once I start the sentence, they just finish it for me. Like, ‘Oh, she moves like this a lot, so maybe we should make this tighter.’”
The looks are indeed customized for Elyanna. Marjieh has a ready list of her sister’s needs. Throughout the interview, she notes everything from her hair-care tips for Elyanna to her dynamic with her backup dancers, belly dancing, and her habit of jumping, although she jokes that she doesn't quite understand why Elyanna does the latter. At times, the observations that Marjieh shares shock even Elyanna. As a stylist and a sister, these are details that Marjieh has seen firsthand for years because they've been doing this for quite some time.
“I remember being back home and being in Nazareth, I used to do some covers,” Elyanna recalls of her early childhood in her birthplace. “Tali would style me. My brother, he had a camera at that time, he wanted to [record] things for fun. And we would be in our backyard and we would be putting the craziest looks together for no reason.”
Perhaps at the time, the reason wasn't clear. But years later, the greater purpose of the siblings’ work was evident as young fans stayed after the concert at Irving Plaza. They were calling Elyanna’s name and extending their arms as far as they could to grab her attention and give her the bracelets they had made. She enthusiastically accepted them with a warm smile and an expression of gratitude, evoking bright smiles on the children’s faces.
