The Sam Grisman Project Announces 2023 Tour Dates
The Sam Grisman Project has unveiled a set of tour dates from June to November, covering much of the continental United States. Bassist and bandleader Grisman, the son of mandolin icon David Grisman, started the band to celebrate his father’s and Jerry Garcia’s music.
“The music that my father, David Grisman, and his close friend, Jerry Garcia, made in the early 90s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories,” he shares. “My goal in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a platform for my friends and me to showcase our genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music. By playing some of their beloved repertoire and sharing the original music that our own collective has to offer, we will also show the impact that this music has had on our own individual musical voices.”
The Project’s next 2023 tour dates begin June 22nd at Bears Picnic Get Down in Blain, Pennsylvania. They’ll be appearing at several festivals before heading to San Francisco in July and bouncing between the Midwest and the Rockies for the month. The rest of the year will be spent in the East, with a final date set for November 4th in Washington, DC.
Grisman often plays upright bass, but check out the band’s killer version of “Stealin’” with him on the electric:

Sam Grisman Project Conclude First Leg of Winter Tour in Seattle with David Grisman and Beppe Gambetta
On Sunday night, Sam Grisman Project closed out the first leg of their winter tour at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle. The Emerald City show marked the final night of the ensemble’s west coast jaunt which began on Jan. 6 in San Diego, Calif. The weekend nightcap presented a plethora of pinch me moments including a first and second set appearance by David Grisman, who joined his son and collaborators on a selection of acoustic numbers which beckoned to his work with Jerry Garcia. Italian acoustic guitarist, Beppe Gambetta also made a showing and added to the night’s rendition of “Freight Train.”
The first frame of music was an electric affair–kicked into high-gear with the evening’s opening take on “Catfish John.” To follow, Sam Grisman, Ric Robertson, Aaron Lipp, Chris English and their guest on the road, Alex Hargreaves (Billy Strings), delivered “It’s Only Pain.” The set continued with crowd-pleasers “Gomorrah” and “He’s Gone.” Then, the group worked on “Funky E.M.D.” which ran over into Doc Watson’s “Red Rocking Chair.” “Crossword Boss,” an original penned by Robertson, capped the night’s initial electric offering.
As the members of the band fetched their acoustic instruments, smiles spread across their faces as Sam approached the mic and provided a heartfelt introduction for his fabled father. David took the stage with his mandolin in hand, exciting the audience with his comment, “The torch has been passed,” before digging into “Dawg’s Waltz.” The group jammed through “Opus 38” paired with “Shady Grove” before English took the lead on “Sitting Here in Limbo.” The covers continued with “Down in the Valley” before closing set one with the supreme instrumentals of “Rinzler’s Rag.”
The band returned from set break and dove into a roll out of acoustic tunes alongside their special guest, David, who assisted with “All About You,” a traditional tune David Grisman recorded with Watson. “Hartford’s Real” came next, and served as a homage to John Hartford, before the performers turned toward the Garcia and David Grisman’s Not For Kids Only material on “When First Unto This Country.” Gambetta took the stage next and added to “Freight Train,” before leaving the band to deliver a jubilant “Jenny Jenkins.” Lipp’s original “Blue Darlin’,” came before a soaring rendition John Lennon’s “Look At Me.” The second set acoustic offering brought forth another Robertson original, this time “The Cloud,” which also served as their last song with the night’s special guest.
With the venue’s energy at an all time high, the final portion of the evening ensued with a return to electric on fan favorite “Stealin’.” English’s original “Alone,” came next and served as an anthem for self love, before the group turned toward Lipp’s “You’ll Be Going Again.” Robertson’s self-penned “Getting Over Our Love” prefaced the Grateful Dead’s “Black Muddy River.” Then, they returned to the Robertson original, “Choices and Chains” to cap the final frame of music.
During Sunday’s encore, the band retook the stage accompanied by their fan’s roaring applause and delivered a heartfelt take on “Mission in the Rain.” After capping the first leg of their winter tour last night, the band will take some time off the road before returning on Feb. 7, in Nashville, Tenn., when they are billed to perform at Riverside Revival with Logan Ledger and Rushad Eggleston. From there, they will embark on the Colorado leg of the tour, which will commence on Feb. 10 at The Paradise in Paonia, Colo. Tickets for the band’s upcoming tour dates are on sale now and can be purchased here .

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.
Know More about this tour
We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Traveler Reviews
This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.
We did the tour with Anna her knowledge and understanding of the History surrounding the metro brought the tour alive. Well done Anna!

Grisman and McCroury. by Everlys on 11/23/15State Theatre - Portland. These two are master musicians! We loved the theater, and the audience! To say enthusiastic is an understatement! We've seen Del McCoury with his band, and wished they were all there, but listening to David Grisman play the mandolin was a wonderful experience. He's the master!
