The Gaslight Anthem Plot First Full Tour in Four Years

By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

New Jersey rock & roll heroes the Gaslight Anthem will reunite for their first headlining tour in four years this fall.

The trek is set to kick off Sept. 13 at the Roseland Theatre in Portland and wrap Oct. 5 at the Anthem in Washington, D.C. Tigers Jaw will provide support for the bulk of the tour, although Jeff Rosenstock will take over for the final four shows.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale this Friday, April 1, at 10 a.m. local time. A fan pre-sale will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. local via the Gaslight Anthem’s website (fans can use the password “tga2022” for access to early tickets).

The tour announcement comes just days after Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon teased the band’s return on social media, writing, “I am very pleased to announce to you all that the Gaslight Anthem is returning to full-time status as a band.” On top of the tour, Fallon said the group is “beginning to write new songs for what will be our sixth LP. We’re looking forward to the future and seeing you all again.”

We’ll be announcing a lot of tour dates in the next couple of days. We’re also beginning to write new songs for what will be our sixth LP. The Gaslight Anthem last got together for some live shows in 2018 when they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their acclaimed second LP, The ’59 Sound . Prior to that, the Gaslight Anthem had announced an indefinite hiatus after they finished touring in support of their 2014 album, Get Hurt .

In the years since Get Hurt , Fallon has stayed busy with music, releasing an EP and four solo albums. His most recent effort, Night Divine , arrived last November and found Fallon recreating the traditional Christian hymns of his youth. Other members of the Gaslight Anthem have also launched other projects, like Alex Rosamilia and Alex Levine teaming up with members of the Ratchets and Let Me Run to form the new band, Forgivers .

The Gaslight Anthem

gaslight anthem tour seattle

The following description comes from the event organizer.

With special guests  Joyce Manor  and  The Dirty Nil Since coming together in 2007, The Gaslight Anthem has forged its own powerful, populist sound, marrying their punk roots with rich craft and raw emotional power to create a soulful, exhilarating, and utterly unique vision of American rock ‘n’ roll. After releasing their debut album, SINK OR SWIM, and then the SEÑOR AND THE QUEEN EP, 2008’s THE ’59 SOUND officially saw the New Jersey-based band break out on a global scale, with songs like "Great Expectations," and “Old White Lincoln,” as well as the worldwide smash title track proving transcendent modern rock classics fueled by heroic hooks, huge choruses, and wildly triumphant energy.

2010’s AMERICAN SLANG earned epic critical applause while making historic chart entries worldwide, including a #1 debut on Billboard’s “Independent Albums.” Recorded with producer Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen), 2012’s HANDWRITTEN proved the apogee for The Gaslight Anthem’s anthemic approach, scoring top 10 chart debuts in eight countries around the globe, and features the song "HOWL," which plays at every New Jersey Devils hometown game when they score a goal. The band pushed their music even further with their fifth studio album, GET HURT, which made top 5 chart debuts in both the US and the UK upon its August 2014 release.

Having climbed the mountaintop, The Gaslight Anthem chose to call it a day in 2015, making what they thought was their last-ever live appearance at the UK’s Reading Festival. However, 2018 saw the band commemorate the 10th anniversary of THE ’59 SOUND with a very special series of shows across North America and Europe performing the album in its entirety. The Gaslight Anthem hit the stage once again in June 2022, performing a secret set before 200 elated fans on what was supposed to have been the final night of lead vocalist-guitarist-songwriter Brian Fallon’s three-show solo run at Garwood, NJ’s Crossroads. The band officially announced their return to active status with a world headline tour hailed by Kerrang! as “an amazing, career-spanning 21-song setlist…that celebrated all eras of their music.”

The Gaslight Anthem’s sixth full-length and first new album together in almost a decade, HISTORY BOOKS once again brings their soulful breed of life-affirming punk to explore everything from mortality to mental illness. Hailed by the Associated Press as “big-hearted freeway rock,” HISTORY BOOKS includes such singles as the heavy-hearted title track, “History Books,” featuring duet vocals from longtime band champion and fellow New Jerseyan Bruce Springsteen. The Gaslight Anthem marked HISTORY BOOKS with worldwide headline dates and festival appearances including a hit-packed co-headline set at Chicago, IL’s Riot Fest.

The Gaslight Anthem is: Brian Fallon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Alex Rosamilia (lead guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

The Gaslight Anthem Extends Their ‘History Books Tour’ With A Summer Run Of North American Dates

Flisadam Pointer

Since reuniting , The Gaslight Anthem’s newest releases have been setting fierce little fires across the rock scene. The group’s latest album, History Books , burns the hottest among them all, according to fans and frontman Brian Fallon alike.

Considering the project was released in October 2023, you’d think the group will be wrapping up their time on the road soon. If you did, you’d be wrong. In fact, on March 18, the musicians took to Instagram to reveal a whole new set of dates for the summer, including an appearance at Sea.Hear.Now Festival . Beginning in July, The Gaslight Anthem will kick off the North American run of the tour. Across the 27-date schedule, musicians Joyce Manor , The Dirty Nil , and Pinkshift will serve as special guests.

The wing doesn’t start until July 26, but the presale will begin on Wednesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. local time. Those without the presale code must wait until the general sale starts on Friday, March 22, at 10 a.m. (local). Find more information here .

The Gaslight Anthem announce major US summer tour, new EP with Billie Eilish cover

by JACKSON SINNENBERG | The National Desk

WASHINGTON (TND) — New Jersey rock ambassadors The Gaslight Anthem may be bringing the sounds of the shore to a town near you this summer.

The beloved rock band, which reformed in 2022 after a seven-year indefinite hiatus, announced a cross-country U.S. tour Monday that will take them from the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast to the South to the East Coast.

The group will also be showcasing some new music, and some new old music, as it releases its first EP in 12 years, "History Books - Short Stories," a follow up to its 2023 album which will feature a cover of the Billie Eilish song "Ocean Eyes."

"I had been listening to this Billie Eilish song my daughter showed me on the way to school one morning called 'Ocean Eyes' and I thought, 'hey that would be a great song for The Gaslight Anthem to cover'," frontman Brian Fallon said in a statement released Monday.

In a throwback to the group's first EP, "Señor and the Queen," the Gaslight Anthem also reworked one of its popular crowd sing-alongs, "Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts," which features references to locations in Asbury Park, N.J., with new, more contemporary references.

"We had been messing with some of the location names to be more current - seems like real estate on Cookman Ave [sic.] is all office buildings and condos for very very rich people, maybe not the neighbors for me," Fallon also said. "So, we updated a few choice Jersey locations - not to replace the old version, just more of a current look."

The shows include the following dates and venues:

  • July 26 at The Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colo.
  • July 27 at The Union in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • July 28 at Revolution Concert House in Boise, Idaho
  • July 30 at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, Wash.

The Gaslight Anthem (formed in 2006) is an American punk rock band from New Jersey, U.S., signed to Island Records.

The Gaslight Anthem are formulated of Brian Fallon on lead vocals and guitar, Alex Rosamilia on guitar and backing vocals, Alex Levine on bass and backing vocals and Benny Horowitz on drums and percussion. Previously Brian Fallon had been in a number of bands, although the most recent This Charming Man featured all the current members except Alex Rasamilia who replaced Mike Volpe. His departure signalled a change in musical direction and subsequently a change in name to The Gaslight Anthem.

The band’s first two releases “Sink and Swin” and “Señor and the Queen” received positive reviews however it wasn’t until the album “The ’59 Sound” that the band really found its feet in the music industry, receiving glorious reviews from a whole host of sources including: 'emusic' who named “The ’59 Sound” 2008’s best album of the year; and Pitchfork who gave the album a glowing 8.6/10. Critical acclaim brought Gaslight’s music to the forefront, Gaslight are an old breed of punk rock that follows in the tradition of bands like Social Distortion, Alkaline Trio and Bouncing Souls, the former of which Gaslight supported on their European tour in 2009.

2009 also brought fellow New Jersey, U.S. musician Bruce Springsteen into view, who made a special appearance during Gaslight’s Glastonbury set, and in return Brian Fallon of the band accompanied Springsteen for his song “No Surrender” for his headlining show. The result of which saw sales of “The ’59 Sound” grow over 200%.

Since then the band has released three more albums entitled “American Slang” released in 2010, “Handwritten” released two years later in 2012, and 2014’s “Get Hurt.” The albums show a progression of the band’s music, steering away from the tiring Bruce Springsteen connections and utilising other musicians for influence and in doing so challenging their listeners.

Live reviews

Walking onto the stage The Gaslight Anthem are here to do a job. That job is to play some music and it is clear that the band mean business.

With little introduction or fan fare Brian Fallon gets right into it, much to the delight of his fans. Dedicated fans line the pit, fists pumping and lungs bursting as they sing along to every number. Several crowd members are almost frenzy like in their adoration of the band.

Touring to promote their latest album " Get Hurt" the New Jersey quartet of rockers take to the show with minimal fuss and polished perfection.

The crowed has been warmed up by Indie Rocker Chris Farren and are chomping at the bit to hear the latest from the very popular American band as they play to a packed room.

Playing crowd favourites such as "59 Sound" and " Hand Written" it is a mix of old and new music for the 90 min set. At one stage Fallon teases the crowd by playing a few bars of the classic " Jesse's Girl." The crowd laps it up so he basks in the adoration and plays a few verses.

He's not a talkative man, not tending to introduce the songs much, Fallon would rather just play.

The only time he really does talk is when over enthusiastic fans yell out song requests. Then we see glimmers of a cheeky personality shine through. At one stage a fan yells for an autograph, holding up what looks to be a picture of the band. Fallon responds by hauling the guy on stage, introducing him as Matt and dedicating the next song to him. It's a song about "Not being a dummy when you grow up" and it's called "How".

For much of the show the band are pretty consistent, playing each song with ease; transitioning from one song to the next. The songs have a tendency to sound the same, but it is a good sound and enjoyable to listen to.

Closing with the crowd clapping to "The Backseat" at 10:15pm the evening abruptly comes to an end without an encore and the band promptly leaves the stage as the house lights come up. There is no need for any thing more, the band have come to do a job, and they did that well.

Seven times in for this reporter and The Gaslight Anthem are the gift that keeps on giving. The New Jersey rockers have matured from scrappy yet literate and emotional punks to an assured and righteous rock sensation who’ve claimed every stage from coffee shop to stadium as wel-and-truly theirs. One only has to see them live to witness that fact for themselves, it’s in every part of their performance, from Alex Rosamilia’s subtle, flowing guitar lines to Brian Fallon’s truly magnetic charisma and heart rending voice imbuing every song with the right amount of wit, soul, power and depth they need.

The chemistry on display is palpable. The four members of the band (expanded to five when playing live with extra guitarist Ian Perkins needed to capture the expanded sound of the bands later albums) are so road-hardened that they seem born to play together. Dextrous enough to handle everything from The Navesink Banks’ hushed folk rock, The 59 Sound’s heart-in-your-mouth punk rock and Biloxi Parish’s crunching riffage like it was as natural as breathing. Coming very soon is a new album entitled 'Get Hurt,' which promises a sizeable overhaul in sound and style but we can all bet money that whatever they come up with, The Gaslight Anthem will be able to put on a truly unforgettable live show with it. See you down the front!

Complementing the relentless energy of punk with the blue-collar fervour of Springsteen is no mean feat, but New Jersey four-piece The Gaslight Anthem have been doing it for close to ten years now. The band have come a long way from their humble New Brunswick beginnings – nowadays their unique brand of American punk rock is filling theatres the world over. Over the years London seems to have become a particular home-away-from-home, with The Troxy chosen as the setting for a live DVD, and Alexandra Palace set to play host to their biggest UK date yet. Still, despite their reputation as a veteran live band, don't expect a The Gaslight Anthem show to involve pyrotechnics. You can leave your 3D glasses at home, too. This band are storytellers first and foremost, and the romanticism and nostalgia of singer Brian Fallon's songs needs no embellishment: ‘The '59 Sound’, for example, harks back to “grandma's radio” and “old gospel choirs”, while ‘45’ pays homage to the rapidly ageing 7" record. The Gaslight Anthem's live show is equal parts poignant sincerity and muscular urgency: they are a rare breed of punk band that's unafraid to wear their collective heart on their sleeve, and they are not one to be missed.

I've seen a lot of bands live but few can even hold a candle (or a gaslight) to the Gaslight Anthem's live performance. September 27 2014 was my second time seeing them and they completely outdid themselves. New setlists every night ensure that you will have a unique experience from every other show on the tour, and when they're performing, Gaslight just kills it on every song. These guys are such tight musicians. Brian told us that he actually has a chest infection at the moment and he considered not playing, but then he said, "That's not how we do things," and launched into a spot on Tom Waits impression. They played songs from every release, including my favorite 1930 off of Sink or Swim, and Brian engaged in some classic bashing of Southern California with us, which is about the one thing you can do to most endear yourself to a NorCal crowd. I love Gaslight. Please go see them. For your own sake.

What can I say??? From Matthew Ryan, Dave Hause, Tim Hause... and then... the main attraction. Kicking off with Handwritten... bloody hell. It was magic... we were in the Accessibility part. The security again.. we're so helpful... I was blown away. And then the 59 Sound what we were all there for. The atmosphere was electric... I thought I may explode... songs from the 59 Sound album and Hanwritten... with some extras thrown in. This concert was 10years in the making... I hope we don't have to wait too long to see them together again..

Amazing show, this is the second time I have seen The Gaslight Anthem and their stage presence has improved immensely! I loved how talkative Brian was with the crowd and how much he praised Seattle. I flew down from Canada to see them at the Showbox, as this is one of my all time favorite venues and I was not disappointed. I loved the set list and the rendition of "Wish you were Here" was very well done.

Fantastic Band + perfect venue = Amazing night !

The Gaslight Anthem Sets New EP With Billie Eillish Cover & More; New Summer Tour

The Gaslight Anthem has announced HISTORY BOOKS – SHORT STORIES, a new EP arriving Friday, March 22 on their own Rich Mahogany Recordings label via Thirty Tigers.

HISTORY BOOKS – SHORT STORIES collects four exclusive tracks including the band's anthemic take on Billie Eilish's 3x RIAA Platinum-certified breakthrough single, “Ocean Eyes,” as well as a brand new rendition of the longtime fan favorite, “Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts,” and stripped-down acoustic performances of “Positive Charge” and “History Books,” the original versions of which can be found on The Gaslight Anthem's acclaimed 2023 return to action, HISTORY BOOKS.

“I was driving my daughter to school and she played it for me on the way and I really took to the song,” says The Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon. “Then one day we were talking ideas for a cover with our friends and I said, wouldn't it be cool to do a heavier version of ‘Ocean Eyes'? I tried it out and everybody loved the idea.”

The Gaslight Anthem will celebrate HISTORY BOOKS – SHORT STORIES and much more with an eagerly awaited North American summer headline tour. The “HISTORY BOOKS TOUR” gets underway July 26 at Denver, CO's Mission Ballroom and then continues through a September 1 finale at Detroit, MI's The Fillmore Detroit.

Support throughout comes from Joyce Manor with The Dirty Nil (July 26-August 11) and Pinkshift (August 13-September 1) joining on select dates. Pre-sales begin Wednesday, March 20 at 10:00 am (local). General on-sales begin Friday, March 22 at 10:00 am (local). For full details, please see www.thegaslightanthem.com .

In the meantime, The Gaslight Anthem is currently traveling on an epic EU/UK tour, including sold-out headline shows and wide range of top-billed festival appearances into July. In addition, the band will return to their home state of New Jersey to join Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Trey Anastasio Band, Norah Jones, and more at Asbury Park's sold-out Sea.Hear.Now Festival on Sunday, September 15.

The Gaslight Anthem's sixth full-length and first new album in nearly a decade, HISTORY BOOKS includes such singles as  the heavy-hearted title track, “ History Books ,” which sees Fallon trading duet vocals with longtime band champion and fellow New Jerseyan Bruce Springsteen, as well as “ Spider Bites ,” “ Autumn ,” “ Little Fires ” (featuring guest vocals from PUP frontman Stefan Babcock), “ Positive Charge .” All five tracks are joined by official music videos streaming now on YouTube .

The Gaslight Anthem is: Brian Fallon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Alex Rosamilia (lead guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion, backing vocals).
