AUSSIEWHEEL A1 – A4 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Safe 12 or 24 Volts DC Battery Powered Mover
  • Optional Interchangeable Hitches – Ball, Jockey Post, Treg or DO35
  • Size Exc Handle – Width / Length / Height – 350 / 640 / 350mm
  • Mover Weight – 45 Kg – Optional Solid Tyres 15 Kg

The motor and worm-drive gearbox provide the most power output for size and is rated for continuous use. A forward and reversing rocker switch in the handle stops motor instantly and acts as a brake when released. The handle is removable for transport and can be angled each side so that machine can be operated whilst viewing along the side of caravan or boat.

Power is from any 12V DC battery usually mounted in van or a battery tray can be fitted on the top of unit. A battery lead is supplied with your choice of connecting clips. (Crocodile clips, Anderson plug or ring connectors.) Standard is 3.0m long. It is preferable to keep this as short as possible to prevent possible voltage drop. The movers may draw up to 70Amps peak but normally run at 25-30Amps.  Please check you van fuse or circuit breaker and upgrade prior to use.

The AussieWheel is also available with 24V DC increasing speed 40%.

When more power is required – going over grass, going up a slight slope or a lot of turning always select the more powerful unit.

Driving wheels can be either single wheel drive for easier turning or both wheels driving for maximum pulling power and grip.

Standard wheel is a balloon tyre suitable for hard surfaces. Wheels are easy to remove and punctures are easy to repair. Chevron tyres suit firm grass or gravel surfaces. For extra traction or firm grass the wider Turf tyre is a great option

With heavy loads tyres can compress on one side when turning, this can be overcome for Balloon or Chevron tyres with foam filled tyres. This option must be chosen at time of ordering.

Unlike most movers, AussieWheel does not have a chain drive but relies on a direct shaft drive from the worm-drive gearbox. Where possible we use Australian parts and local suppliers.

A two-year warranty is standard for Domestic use and 12 months for Commercial use.

Fully C.E. Electromagnetic tested and approved in accordance with AS1044.

Best Caravan Movers in Australia – The Ultimate Guide

Do you find it difficult to reverse your caravan?

Everybody finds themselves in a tight spot sometimes. Even the most experienced drivers can struggle to park their van on an awkward pitch or reverse it into a shed. It's a tricky task but thankfully there's an easy solution.

The humble caravan mover.

With one of these, you’ll be able to manoeuvre your van without worrying about making mistakes. Ratchet jockey wheel systems are popular because they are a cheap and effective way to manually guide the caravan into position.

Or you can go upmarket and invest in an electric caravan mover. Simply use a remote control and watch your caravan move. Yes, they’re a premium option but you won’t break your back or be stressed out while on holiday.

Let’s look at some of the most popular caravan movers in Australia today.

Best Caravan Movers Australia

Camec caravan mover elite 2.

Camec Caravan Mover Elite 2

  • Soft-start remote control
  • Coated for corrosion protection
  • 2-way remote control communication
  • Waterproof components
  • Durable materials
  • One year warranty
  • The mover cannot be used with rear-shackle suspensions

The Camec Caravan Mover Elite 2 is one of the best in its class in Australia today.

Camec is a well-trusted brand with an emphasis on quality. Their electric caravan mover continues a trend of high-end products for a decent price.

This system is easy to operate. Once it’s set up, you can use the remote control to move your caravan in every direction. Furthermore, it uses 2-way system technology to block interference from external signals.

Meanwhile, it utilises soft start-and-stop technology. Some cheaper electric jockey wheel systems jolt in a jarring manner when they’re activated. This isn’t the case with the Camec.

This caravan mover requires 12V to operate with an average consumption of 20 amps. It also has a safe working load of 1,800kg when using two motors. However, this reduces to 1,500kg on an 18% gradient.

The downside of this caravan mover (as with pretty much all electric caravan movers) is that it’s expensive. It comes with a one-year warranty.

Finally, it is a hefty piece of equipment as it weighs 45kg. Bear this in mind when considering your overall payload.

Purple Line e-go Titanium 2 Motor Mover

Purple Line e-go Titanium 2 Motor Mover

  • Non-corrosive
  • Easy to control
  • Heavy-duty design
  • Australian made
  • Lighter than competitors
  • Excellent safety features
  • Safe working load up to 2,250kg (2 motors)
  • Two-year warranty
  • Complex installation

Purple Line’s phenomenal electric caravan mover is one of the best in its class.

Designed for Australian conditions, this is a durable device. It’s corrosive resistant, electroplated and powder-coated for enhanced protection from the elements. This caravan mover should last for a long time.

It’s also lighter than direct competitors like the Camec Elite 2. The Titanium 2 weighs just 35kg but still retains a heavy-duty design.

You can use this mover on both single-axle and double-axle caravans. It has a safety limit of 2,250kg with two motors and 3,000kg for four motors. This is a higher allowance than the Camec equivalent.

Meanwhile, Purple Line is rightly proud of its safety features.

It comes with built-in motor overload protection. Also, the control unit and handset shut down automatically after 60 seconds of disuse. Furthermore, there is an isolation switch so that nobody accidentally activates the remote.

Finally, the brake immediately engages when you release the controller button.

This is arguably the best caravan mover in Australia and it’s difficult to find negatives.

The price is high at $1500 but comes with a two-year warranty. While the mover is complicated to install, the upside is that it can be removed and attached to other caravans.

Alko Power Mover w/ Clamp & Handle

Alko Power Mover w Clamp & Handle

  • Simple to operate
  • Lightweight
  • Fits onto the existing tow bar
  • Solid rubber tyres
  • One-year warranty
  • Can be challenging to operate by yourself

This power mover is on the other end of the spectrum from the previous caravan mover.

Alko designed this mover to be simple but effective. It will fit onto conventional tow bars without any problems. From there it should be easy to use. Use the lever handle to direct the caravan. This engages the ratchet and guides the van into motion.

At just 10kg it’s lightweight but deceptively solid. The 260mm rubber tyres are designed to last and to give the system an even load share.

This caravan mover has a maximum drawbar weight of 150kg when in motion. However, this increases to 350kg when stationary.

The main issue with this model is an inherent one. Like all ratchet jockey wheel systems, it can be difficult for one person to operate. It’s much easier when there’s somebody else with you to give directions.

However, there’s no disputing that it’s good value. At about $175, it’s the best caravan mover available at a lower price point.

Trailer Valet Mover

Trailer Valet Mover

Honourable Mention

  • Simple to use
  • Easy to install and remove
  • Incorporated safety brake
  • High-quality design
  • Spare mounting plates for vehicle transfer
  • Patented drive system

Trailer Valet wanted to design the best-motorised jockey wheel and they may have succeeded.

Their caravan mover is made from high-quality powder-coated steel. This prevents corrosion and reduces the chances of deterioration over time.

Functionality is a key aspect of motorised jockey wheel systems. This rig is easy to install and can replace the original jockey wheel. You can choose to remove it when travelling or rotate it to a safe position.

Simply lift the brake, activate the handle, and steer the caravan in the direction you desire.

The brand provides spare mounting plates so that you can easily transfer the mover to another caravan if you upgrade to a new one. It attaches easily to the A-frame of the camping vehicle.

According to Trailer Valet, it is designed for single-axle caravans up to 2,200kg.

At 20.5kg, it’s twice as heavy as the Alko Power Mover. But it’s also a lot more expensive with a retail price of around $600, with the same one-year warranty.

Arguably, it’s better-made than the Alko-alternative but it’s a lot to pay for a power mover that still makes you do the work.

Points To Consider When Buying A Caravan Mover

Nobody wants to have regrets after spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new caravan mover. Here are some important points to keep in mind when buying and using your new device.

Electric Caravan Mover vs. Motorised Jockey Wheel

The first major decision you must make is to choose the style of mover that you want to buy. There are two main systems available today.

Motorised jockey wheels are substantially cheaper than the alternative option. You can see that the Alko Power Mover is almost one-tenth of the cost of a Camec Elite 2 . This massive price discrepancy makes them very popular for a lot of buyers.

They’re also reasonably easy to set up whereas you may need a technician to help configure an electric caravan mover.

Of course, the advantage of the latter is that they are incredibly simple to use. Just use your remote control to direct the caravan into place. All it takes is one person with the controller.

While one person can use a motorised jockey wheel by themselves, it’s less convenient. Firstly, they can’t see their surroundings as clearly so it’s not as safe. Meanwhile, if it’s raining heavily you’ll get soaked.

With an electric caravan mover, you don’t need another person to help guide you. It’s even possible to sit in your car and use the remote.

There’s no denying that electric caravan movers make life easier. However, the high price means that they’re not always of great value for everybody.

Health & Safety

This is an important point to consider, especially if you have children.

All decent caravan movers come with safety features to ensure the safety of the caravan’s occupants. It’s worth comparing different options to see which one is the most suitable for your needs.

If you have children, always keep your remote control out of reach. You don’t want them to start treating your caravan mover like a toy car!

Quality movers like the Purple Line automatically shut down so that the mover won’t activate if somebody accidentally hits the remote. They also have isolation switches to further reduce this risk.

Another common safety feature in all movers is automatic caravan brake engagement. As soon as you release the jockey handle or your finger leaves the remote control’s button, the caravan should stop.

The best electric caravan movers like the Camec Elite 2 or the Purple Line use soft-start technology. This prevents them from jolting around like a bucking bronco when you press different buttons.

Finally, remember to retract or remove any mechanical jockey wheels or jacks before you set off on your journey!

Using Your Caravan Mover

One of the best things you can do with your new caravan mover is practise with it at home.

This is especially relevant if you’re using electric, remote-control systems. Nobody wants to feel self-conscious or uncomfortable on a site with lots of other camping vehicles around.

It’s preferable to practise in an open space like a large yard if available. You’ll get to grips with the remote control and will feel more confident. Maybe get out your caravan levelling ramps and do a dry run on these by yourself before heading out.

Maintenance is also something to consider.

These systems don’t require a lot of work but you can get your technician to check them when they service your van. Basic maintenance is relatively straightforward. Just refer to your product’s instructions so you use the correct cleaning spray.

Avoid directly spraying your mover with a power washer because the intensity of the blast can damage electronic systems.

When out on a trip, it’s worth having basic tools ready on standby in case you need to make a quick adjustment to the mover.

Keep an eye on the condition of your battery. If it’s faulty or old you may not be able to use your mover at all. It’s no good without a working power supply.

Another point is to think about where you’re going. If you know that you’ll be parking on grass, consider changing the type of tyres if necessary. The Trailer Valet system above has pneumatic tyres which are perfect for grassy conditions.

Finally, don’t forget or lose your remote control! You won’t be able to use an electric caravan mover without it. They’re also tricky to replace so it’s not an ordeal you want to put yourself through.

Final Thoughts

Caravan movers first entered the scene in 1998 but they’ve improved exponentially since then. They’re now one of the best accessories that you can buy.

There are different types and models available for everybody’s needs and budget. Just decide how much you want to spend and how often you plan to use your caravan. If you’re a regular traveller, an electric caravan mover may be a sound investment.

Purple Line makes one of the best caravan movers in the nation today. It’s easy to use, is well-made, and has superb safety features. The price is comparable to other units in its class.

However, if you don’t want to break the bank or only travel occasionally, a motorised jockey wheel may be more suitable. The Trailer Valet Mover is at the higher end of this range but it’s worth the price.

Motor movers, along with caravan brake controllers , towing mirrors and reversing cameras , are one of the most important safety features you can add to your vehicle. They may seem expensive, but they can make your holiday a stress-free venture!

Unique Aussie camping spot where guests pay what they feel

Tourists are flooding to a sleepy, off-the-beaten track town in the depths of the outback thanks to its quirky approach to pricing.

Hidden Sydney beaches you need to know about

Why top Aussie tourist site is closing down

Aussie city declared Sydney ‘dupe’

Aussie city declared Sydney ‘dupe’

There’s a little-known camping and caravan spot in outback Australia that lets people decide how much they pay.

It may be out of the ordinary but the small community that makes up the town where the pay-as-you-please option is offered, does things differently.

I found this out on a weekend away with my family to the farming town of Kulin , which is a three-hour drive inland from Perth, Western Australia .

The place has a population of about 300 people and is surrounded by fields of wheat crops.

In a strange contrast to the landscape, it is also home to a little piece of the Sunshine Coast, in the form of regional Australia’s biggest water slide.

Kulin Caravan Park caretaker, Trish Mahe said the park’s unique payment model was implemented in 2015 to draw visitors to the town.

“We’re not on a main road,” she pointed out.

The water slide at the Kulin Aquatic Centre is open during the warmest five months of the year. Picture: Supplied

Kulin is situated in the interior of the lower part of the state. Not even direct routes from Perth to Albany, Esperance or Kalgoorlie would usually take motorists through the town.

Despite that, the park was booked out for many nights during the summer school holidays.

It may not have the bells and whistles of a Big4 Holiday Park but that is not what the shire is aiming for.

Situated right near the centre of town, the park is not completely fenced off, but given the town’s size and sleepy nature, it works.

As well as 11 powered caravan sites there is a modern amenities block, laundry facilities, a campers kitchen and a grassed area for tents.

Kulin Caravan Park caretaker, Trish Mahe. Picture: Supplied

Mahe said the amount people paid to stay differed and that was OK.

She said those with bigger setups often paid a bit more.

“I say, tell me how much you want to pay,” she said.

Mahe said on average, families paid between $40 and $50 per night, couples a bit over $30 and someone just with a swag might pay $10.

So how does that stack up? According to the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, the national average price of a unpowered site in 2022 was $44.26 and a powered site $51.28.

While the incoming funds from paying guests may not make the shire a profit, the aim of the park is to incentivise people to visit the town.

“We are there to get people in, so hey can support the town and they can go have dinner at the pub, go to IGA and go to the Mitre10 gift shop,” Mahe said.

And that was very much the case on our visit.

Sometimes it’s the simple pleasures that make a place. Picture: Supplied

We ate at the pub the two nights we were there and spotted a handful of other families there who were also staying at the caravan park, who we had also seen at the town’s water slide.

The water slide at the Kulin Aquatic Centre is open during the warmest five months of the year and is the biggest of its kind outside of Australian cities.

Its existence in Kulin came about thanks to a generous local farming couple who bequeathed more than a million dollars to the town more than two decades ago.

A portion of their bequest paid for the slide, while an army of local volunteers drove trucks across the country to bring it all the way from Queensland to Kulin and reassemble it.

It’s been operating since 2021.

Only by taking in the view at the top of the slide, looking out from 18 metres in the air towards the tractors and farm machinery and towering eucalypts, can its unique setting really be appreciated.

The aquatic centre, with its pool and water slide are open air, providing space to unwind in contrast to the noise and chaos of enclosed leisure centres in metro areas.

It is also just a 200 metre walk from the caravan park.

My family got the full country experience in Kulin.

The park has 11 powered caravan sites there is a modern amenities block, laundry facilities, a campers kitchen and a grassed area for tents. Picture: Supplied

Having mobile phones that were not on the Telstra network, meant we did not have any mobile or internet connection so we were able to switch off.

Mahe said many families enjoyed the back-to-basics getaway that Kulin provided.

“Getting away from the commercial side of things in the city and getting them out into the fresh air, spending a day as a family at the pool, and getting out and about especially for kids from the city, showing them a slower paced holiday that they don’t get to see as often.”

At the caravan park, in lieu of a bouncing pillow, our children made friends with other young campers and made their own fun.

Around town we met friendly locals only too happy to point us in the right direction for coffee and let us know opening times for the few local retailers, which, without mobile coverage, we were unable to lookup.

Kulin is situated in the interior of the lower part of WA. Not even direct routes from Perth to Albany, Esperance or Kalgoorlie take motorists through the town. Picture: Supplied

Those who live in Kulin are vested in the town, literally. Local investors joined forces to buy the Kulin Community Hub which is both the town pub and cafe and the bank in the town opened 25 years ago after locals fundraised to establish it.

Other drawcards to the town are the area’s wildflowers and a couple of big events, the Kulin Bush Races and an offshoot of America’s desert gathering, Burning Man, known as Blazing Swan.

Races week is the one time of the year a standard schedule of fees are in place for the caravan park.

The spirit of the bush races is celebrated in another attraction, a scenic drive of kinds called the Tin Horse Highway.

Spotting the equine artworks made of farm junk by creative locals on the 12-kilometre stretch of road, proved just as much fun for us big kids, as it was for our children in the back seats.

Sometimes it’s the simple pleasures that make a place.

David Attenborough once described it as one of the greatest natural wonders of the world, but this Aussie tourist attraction will soon be shut down.

Qantas passengers will face cancellations and delays as pilots to walk off the job, with affected travellers able to get a refund.

Is this city the perfect dupe for Sydney? Interest is soaring with global flight searches having more than doubled this year.

How To Attach An Annex To A Caravan

As passionate caravan enthusiasts ourselves, we at Aussie Traveller understand the desire to maximise comfort and space on your adventures. That's where caravan annexes come in! Caravan annexes, or annexe walls as they are sometimes called, are essentially enclosed extensions that attach to your existing caravan awning. They transform your awning into a functional living area, offering numerous benefits such as increased living space, privacy and security, and enhanced comfort against the elements.

We offer a wide variety of high-quality caravan annexes and expert advice to help you find the perfect fit for your needs. We also provide a step-by-step guide on annexe installation, ensuring your annex is a safe and valuable addition to your caravan adventures.

So, explore further, relax in style, and increase your living space with a caravan annex from Aussie Traveller today.

Understanding Which Caravan Annexe Works Best For You

Just like when shopping for your caravan, understanding which caravan annexe works best for you involves considering a handful of factors; your desired coverage, ease of setup, and compatibility with your caravan and awning.

Full Annexes

A full caravan annexe offers the most comprehensive living space, encompassing the entire area around the caravan. It includes walls, a roof, and often a floor, providing complete protection from the weather elements like rain and sun, and creating a separate room with windows and doors for ventilation and access. Securing the annexe involves attaching it to the caravan awning channel and using poles, pegs, and ropes for stability.

Annex Walls or Wall Kits

Caravan annex wall kits embrace a modular approach, allowing you to personalise your coverage. These individual wall panels attach to either the sail track of your awning or directly to the caravan wall. This flexibility lets you create a half annex by attaching side walls to one side of your caravan or a full annex by combining side walls and an end wall. This modularity makes them popular choices for their versatility and ease of setup.

Sun Screen End Walls

Designed primarily for shade and insect protection, sun mesh screens offer a practical alternative to complete enclosure. Made from breathable mesh fabric, they allow air circulation while blocking sunlight and insects. These screens conveniently attach to the awning channel or caravan wall, similar to other annex walls. This ease of setup makes them ideal for hot climates and areas with a lot of bugs, providing comfort on your caravan adventures without extending fully to the ground like traditional awnings.

Step-By-Step Guide: How To Attach An Annexe for Caravans

In this guide, we'll explain how to best assemble and install your annexe. Remember to always refer to the manufacturer's instructions specific to your annex model for the most accurate setup guidance.

Step 1: Choose The Right Location

Select a flat and level area close to your caravan for easy attachment and ensure the ground is clear of any debris or sharp objects that could damage the annex.

Step 2: Unpack and Lay Out The Annexe

Lay out the annex fabric on the ground adjacent to your caravan and move the annex around according to the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring the door aligns with your caravan's entrance.

Step 3: Attach The Annex Walls To the Caravan

Locate the attachment points on your caravan. These are usually found along the awning rail or at designated points near the caravan body. Begin attaching the annex to the caravan by:

  • Sliding the annexe bead or strip into the sail tracks of the awning rail.
  • Attaching the annex to the designated points on the caravan body, often using press studs or velcro strips.

Finally, secure the annex to the ground using support poles, ladder straps and pegs, and tighten any cam buckles provided, ensuring the annex is taut and stable.

Step 4: Extend the Annexe

Once you've unpacked your annexe, it's time to set up the poles.

  • Following the manufacturer's instructions, assemble the poles. Then, lift and extend the annexe fabric, making sure it's taut and smooth to avoid wrinkles.
  • Carefully insert the poles into their designated sleeves or attachment points along the edges of the annexe.

This ensures a sturdy structure that will stand up to the elements during your caravan adventures.

Secure Your Annexe with an Anti-Flap Kit

One of the best things you could do for your caravan is shield your annex from the wind and secure your comfort with an anti-flap kit.

An anti-flap kit is an essential accessory for caravan owners because:

  • It Protects Awnings From Damage: In windy conditions, awnings can flap uncontrollably, causing tears and rips. The anti-flap kit helps to stabilise the awning, preventing this damage and extending its lifespan.
  • It Improves Comfort and Enjoyment: The constant flapping of an awning can be noisy and disruptive, making it difficult to relax or sleep. An anti-flap kit significantly reduces noise and flapping, creating a more peaceful and enjoyable outdoor experience.
  • Enhances Awning Functionality: By keeping the awning stable, an anti-flap kit allows for easier attachment of annexes, sunscreens, and other accessories, maximising the versatility and functionality of your setup.

Maintaining Your Annexe Walls

To maintain your annex walls, regularly inspect them for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. Clean them with mild soap and water as needed, and store them properly when not in use to prevent deterioration.
