rose parade tours 2024

A Premiere Bucket List Event!

For millions of people around the world, the Rose Parade is an iconic New Year’s Day tradition. The Rose Parade travels 5 ½ miles down Colorado Blvd. and features four types of entries: floraldecorated floats entered by a participating corporation, non-profit organization or municipality, equestrian units, bands, and Tournament Entries. Rose Parade participants have long histories with the Tournament of Roses and keep the traditions alive. The earliest Tournament of Roses welcomed 3,000 spectators to its first parade filled with beautiful, horsedrawn carriages covered in flowers. More than a century later, the parade floats are a marvel of state of the art technology, all tucked away beneath flowers and other all-natural materials.

A History of the Tournament of Roses

In 1890, Valley Hunt Club members, led by Charles Frederick Holder, sponsored the first Tournament of Roses. The abundance of flowers, even in the midst of winter, prompted the club to add a parade before the competition, where entrants would decorate carriages with hundreds of colorful blooms.

“In New York, people are buried in snow,” announced Professor Charles F. Holder at a Club meeting. “Here our flowers are blooming and our oranges are about to bear. Let’s hold a festival to tell the world about our paradise.”

More than a century later, the parade floats are a marvel of state of the art technology, all tucked away beneath flowers and other all-natural materials. Every New Year, visitors experience the beauty of the floral floats along with spirited marching bands and high-stepping equestrian units along the 5 1⁄2 mile route down Colorado Boulevard.

The Great Rose Bowl Hoax

The Great Rose Bowl Hoax was a prank at the 1961 Rose Bowl, an annual American college football bowl game. That year, the Washington Huskies were pitted against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. At halftime, the Huskies led 17–0, and their cheerleaders took the field to lead the spectators in the stands in a card stunt, a routine involving flip-cards depicting various images for the audience to raise. However, students from the California Institute of Technology managed to alter the card stunt shown during the halftime break, by making the Washington fans inadvertently spell out CALTECH.

The prank has been described as the “greatest collegiate prank of all time” and received national attention, as the game was broadcast to an estimated 30 million viewers across the United States by NBC. One author wrote, “Few college pranks can be said to be more grandly conceived, carefully planned, flawlessly executed, and publicly dramatic” than the Great Rose Bowl Hoax.

  • Since 1890, the Tournament of Roses has produced America’s New Year Celebration. Be a part of history cheering on the floats and bands!

Make sure you have comfortable shoes! This tour requires a lot of walking.

Orange luggage tags are provided and are to be placed on your “checked luggage” (large bag). You do not need a tag for your carry-on bag, for which you will be responsible for taking on and off the coach. There is limited space in the cabin of the coach, so unless you require your carry-on bag while traveling, we will stow it in the luggage compartment.

On the first and last nights of this tour, you are welcome to pack your carry-on bag with essentials that would enable us to leave your “checked bag” on the coach. This will facilitate faster check-in and luggage delivery. This is not a requirement, merely a suggestion; we will deliver your “checked bag” to your room on the first and last night if you desire, just like every other night of the tour.

Important Information

Each reservation requires a $250 per person deposit planning fee (exceptions may apply) to be credited toward your final payment. Some or all of your deposit may be non-refundable per our cancellation schedule noted in these Terms & Conditions below. We are happy to accept cash, check (preferred) or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) for your deposit.

Throughout 2021 we limited capacity on all our tours. This policy was so overwhelmingly popular by Sunrise travelers, we have made it permanent. In 2022 and beyond, we will limit the capacity on our motorcoaches to 80%. Most Sunrise Tours travel on 50-seat coaches with extra legroom, which means guests will enjoy extra legroom AND at least 6-8 empty seats. In the rare cases when we charter a 55-seat coach, there will be at least 10 open seats on the bus.

Our popular on-board refreshment service on travel days will feature a variety of soda, beer, wine spritzers, juices and sparkling water choices served in recyclable aluminum cans. This is a safe and eco-conscious way for us to deliver the ever-popular Sunrise Tours “happy hour” on tour. We do not typically serve bottled water and ask that while on tour you be responsible for your own hydration and consider the Sunrise Tours drink service a welcome refreshment.

Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel

A fitting base for your "celebration of roses" event – beverly wilshire, a four seasons hotel.

If the historic Beverly Wilshire looks familiar, it might be for two reasons – its exceptional location and service – or because the hotel was the primary setting for the 1990s hit film "Pretty Woman." Originally built in 1928, the hotel has reinvented itself throughout the decades while retaining its popularity with the ever-changing "in" crowd. Located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, you'll spend four nights in what is thought to be the best location in the heart of Beverly Hills – with designer shopping, fine dining and postcard-worthy views at your doorstep.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Travel Documents

Real ID Act - Effective May 3, 2023

Beginning in May, 2023, some state IDs will no longer permit you to board a domestic flight. Currently, some states are compliant, some have received extensions, and some are not compliant. Click here  to see the status of your state. If your state license is not compliant, you can use a passport in lieu of a valid state ID.

Note: The federal government has extended the deadline to May 3, 2023 for domestic airline passengers to secure a Real ID driver's license for use as identification at the airport. Travelers without a verified license or ID card will also have the option of showing other identity documents, such as a passport or military ID to board a plane.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling to the U.S., you should contact an embassy or consulate of the U.S. to determine what travel documentation is necessary. You may also log on to the U.S. State Department's Internet site by clicking here .

If you are traveling by air to join and/or depart from this tour within the U.S., please read the section above entitled Airline Security Measures to determine what travel documentation is required.

If you are a citizen of the U.S. or Canada who travels frequently between the two countries , you may benefit from the NEXUS program, which is a joint initiative between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows pre-screened and approved travelers faster processing at designated highway lanes in high-volume border crossing locations, at a NEXUS kiosk at several airports, and at certain marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle regions. For further information, you may log on to the Nexus Internet website by clicking here. Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

There is usually an additional fee for these services. Many hotels do offer on-site babysitting services; however, babysitting services may not be available at all of our hotels. Please note that our Tauck Directors are not responsible for providing babysitting services.  Safety and Welfare Responsibility ― We welcome the participation of child travelers on our exciting excursions. If you are traveling with a child on a Tauck journey, you have the sole responsibility for ensuring that that the child with whom you are traveling follows all rules of safety throughout the tour. Weather in Southern California varies moderately with the seasons. December and January in the Los Angeles area are typically very comfortable with little rain, warm days and cool nights. In December and January the average high temperature is about 68 °F (20 °C) in the daytime and the average overnight low temperature is about 48 °F (9 °C). The region averages 1.9 in (49 mm) of rainfall in December and 3.3 in (85 mm) in January. The air is typically very dry, and the daytime temperatures can drop up to 20 °F or 11 °C by evening.

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website, noaa.gov , by clicking here.

What To Pack

Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is flexible and allows for layering. Casual, cotton resort wear is suggested. For the New Year's Eve Gala event, you may wish to dress up a bit – jacket and tie for men, casually-elegant outfit for ladies - but by all means be comfortable. A light jacket or sweater for late evenings or early mornings is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in are advisable.

Bathrobes and hairdryers are provided in each hotel room.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through the entire event, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription (or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you), a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for the Celebration of Roses Event:

  • Jacket and tie for men
  • Casually-elegant outfit for ladies
  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
  • A light sweater or jacket for cloudy weather or a breezy night
  • Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm functions (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Reusable zipper lock bags or other waterproof bags
  • Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
  • Daypack for camera equipment
  • Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Please be sure to attach your Tauck luggage tag to your suitcase before leaving home!

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

by 7News Staff

7News hosted the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade Saturday, April 9, 2023. (7News)

WASHINGTON (7News) — Starting on March 20 through April 14, residents and visitors can welcome D.C.'s biggest spring attraction with the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade returns on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 7News is a proud media partner of the event.

The parade down Constitution Avenue will feature balloons, floats, and marching bands from around the country as well as award-winning entertainers and performers.

LIST | DC's National Cherry Blossom Festival 2024: Where to stay and play

WHERE TO WATCH

If you are looking to watch the parade in person, spaces along the sides of Constitution Avenue are free to the public on a first-come first-serve basis.

Limited individual and group grandstands are still available. Click here to buy individual tickets and here for group tickets.

You don't want to go downtown? Don't worry, 7News will stream the full two-hour parade right here .

ROAD CLOSURES

To stand on the southside, get off at L’Enfant Plaza (Blue/Green/Orange/Silver/Yellow lines) or Smithsonian (Blue/Orange lines).

Other options include scooters and bike shares. Uber and Lyft are also options to get there as well as cabs.

WEATHER FORECAST

The National Park Service has confirmed that the Yoshino Cherry Tree blossoms reached peak bloom on March 17, several days before the March 23 prediction. The early bloom was due to relatively warm weather conditions across the area.

Travel to Russia from Russian tour-operator

Moscow is the capital of Russia and its political, scientific, cultural and economic centre. It is the northernmost mega-city on Earth and the second by its population after Istanbul with a population over 11 million people and the largest city in Russia.  During its history Moscow served as the capital of several russian principalities, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Tsardom of Russia to the Soviet Union. The Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress today is the residence of the Russian president as well as one of several World Heritage Sites in the city.

Moscow is an amazing combination of a modern city and the Russian antique culture. It boasts such names as The Third Rome, The White-stone Moscow and the First Throne One. There each person can find something to its taste as well as experience a contradictory Russian soul.

Rose Festival announces 2024 princess from Jefferson High

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Rose Festival on Tuesday announced the 2024 Princess from Jefferson High School is Kobi Flowers.

Kobi is a senior at Jefferson High School and expects to graduate this June. After graduation, Kobi is considering becoming an Anesthesiologist or Pharmacist.

The Rose Festival Court, presented by Unitus Community Credit Union, includes 15 outstanding students from Portland, Metro East, and Metro West high schools. The Court provides higher education scholarships funded by The Randall Group, promotes volunteerism, facilitates networking, and encourages an appreciation for the history and traditions of the Portland Rose Festival. Throughout the season, the Court will travel across the state to learn, volunteer, and participate in community and Rose Festival events.

Kobi looks forward to the opportunity to continue serving her community on the Court. “It would be a privilege to represent Jefferson and my community as a member of the 2024 Rose Festival Court,” says Kobi. “Being a young Black American Woman, I believe the Rose Festival Court would give me the opportunity to amplify my voice. I take being a role model very seriously, and I feel that this would give me the chance to do just that. By representing Jefferson, I’m representing leadership, community involvement, and young girls coming behind me.”

Looking ahead to the Portland Rose Festival, Kobi’s favorite event of the season is the Grand Floral Parade. Kobi shares, “My favorite Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade!! I love the feeling of the community coming together and bonding over the annual event. Coming together for this event there is something for everyone, no matter how old you are.”

Learn more about Kobi below.

Princess Bio

Name: Kobi Flowers

School: Jefferson High School

Year in school: Senior

Career plans: I am considering becoming an Anesthesiologist or Pharmacist.

High School Activities & Honors:

I am a part of a few organizations like Upward Bound/TRIO, SEI (Self Enhancement Inc.), and SEI Leadership. I also participate in my school’s Black Student Union. Additionally, I am the secretary in my school’s student government and am the Varsity Cheer Captain.

Hobbies and special interests:

I really enjoy baking as it signifies joy and love for me. It’s a family tradition to bake our annual Christmas sugar cookies. Varsity Cheer also takes up a lot of my time!

What are you most proud of during your high school career? My biggest accomplishment has been joining my cheerleading team. Joining my team was the best decision because before trying out for cheer, I wasn’t really involved with my school. But being part of my team definitely gave me school involvement. And the most valuable thing to me is that I’ve gained a family.

What is your favorite Rose Festival event and why?

My favorite Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade!! I love the feeling of the community coming together and bonding over the annual event. Coming together for this event there is something for everyone, no matter how old you are.
