Easily accessible off the main artery leading from Missouri to Oklahoma. Variety of drinks. Fast food like burgers, hotdogs, and chicken. Dessert coolers with pies and donuts. I noticed there were some traditional Indian snacks too, such a as mango lassis and gulab jabun (Indian fried donuts). Though not open at the time of my visit, this travel center often has a restaurant that serves Indian food, good by reputation! I would like to try it on my way through sometime! Clean bathrooms, showers available, nice staff.

If your in need of a good shower this place is tops! $10 you can take as long as you need, the water pressure was good for getting that grime off as well as hot! As for pricing it's generic Missouri prices + tax! It's clean all around and the majority of the employees are courteous and friendly.

Located off I-44 and near I-49 interchange in Joplin. This truck stop is the newest in the area. It has plenty of parking. Clean store and bathrooms. Reasonable prices. Store is stocked with food, toys, gadgets for vehicles, and beverages. Restaurants inside with dining room.

This is an amazing travel center to pit stop at whil traveling cross country. What makes it special is that it is Indian owned and even has an Indian restaurant inside of it called Rasoi. Food is delicious and tastes authentic. If you I've Indian food, this place is right outside of Joplin, Missouri. Do Yourself A Favor and stop here.

the big apple travel center

Great place to stop off the freeway for gas, and surprisingly good Indian food and clean restrooms. They also have two small dog park runs, which weren't super clean but will do in a pinch when your dogs just have to potty.

Photo of Ronald R.

Don't waste your money on the Indian food. It used to be really good and fresh food. Tonight they charged me $19 for what was supposed to be butter chicken and garlic naanbread. What I got tasted like a frozen TV dinner from Walmart. It had about six tiny pieces of chicken and a whole bunch of gravy, that's what I call it because it had zero curry or ginger in it. And as for my garlic naanbread he said it was going to take 45 minutes to make so he gave me something else instead that tasted like store-bought wheat tortillas. They have definitely lost my business and I will tell everybody I know don't bother coming here. I would give it a negative review now if I could. It's really sad because the food here used to be very good.

I'm very impressed by this travel center. The parking lot is very large with plenty of parking. There are a couple of restaurants and even a coffee shop. The isles are littered with snacks, souvenirs, and items for your vehicle. The shower rooms are decent with overhead shower heads. I'm not sure what the true price is but when I visited showers cost me $10 dollars. One thing that I dislike about the shower rooms are the automatic sink faucets. Try shaving or brushing your teeth in a sink with a faucet with a motion sensor and see how quickly aggravated you'll get. I've eaten at the Indian restaurant twice and have ordered the same thing (chicken tikka masala). This is my favorite place for a snack and food break. As far as the showers I'll pass due to those awful automatic sinks.

Clean, comfortable and relaxing stop at Big Apple. The Indian food was excellent! This just made my "must stop" list when traveling through this area.

Plenty of parking, very good food. Drawback is that the food is a bit tad too expensive but most definitely worth it. Clean restrooms and kind people.

Customer ratings and reviews.

Loads of parking, very well lit up at night. Great selection of convenient store items, coffee galore, fresh hot food for on the go an authentic Indian restaurant for made to order food. Very clean inside & out including the restrooms. The staff is very friendly & attentive they all make you feel welcome. It's my go to stop.

Love this stop!!! Great place and great food. Always has parking

Nice store with clean bathrooms and showers. Plenty of parking, especially for the trucks and RVs. The restaurant inside has some seating in the store and the food is top notch. Whether your in the mood for Indian cuisine or just want some chicken strips or a slice of pizza, even salads and ice cream, you can probably find what you're looking for. Top off your stop with a beverage from the coffee shop and your good to go! There is a limited selection of "grocery" items such as personal cleaning items, laundry supplies, disposable plates, and other consumables as well.

I came in late (for truck parking). I was so surprised at how clean everything was. Employees out picking up the parking lot, pressure washing the concrete. Went inside to spend some money to help support this business and was greeted at the door. Entire place was really clean and STOCKED. I found several items I was waiting to purchase when I had home time. I tried some new food items i have never had. Food was spectacular! I just wanted to let everyone know this place is far better than the Flying J around the way. Support these folks and make a purchase when you stop.

Great truck stop on a long drive! Big parking lots, nice fuel area and easy in and out..the place was amazingly clean with a wide open space inside. The restaurant, Rasoi, smells so yummy! Some us went and ordered food from there then the rest grabbed snacks, drinks and looked around. This store is great, bathroom are spacious and clean, the stop looks fully stocked and had tons of different items... from truck/auto parts and accessories to signs, cell phone and blue tooth items, toys, souvenir shot glasses, magnets, shirts, cups, We found some decals to put on our car. Close to the registers is a nice selection hot box and roller grill. Shelly checked us out, she was so fun and friendly...also paid for fuel inside. When we got belted in and drove off, about a quarter of a mile down the road, we remembered that we didn't get our fuel...so we made two stops today. This was a great experience, so I'll definitely have to stop here again.

10 Best Truck Stops in America

Over-the-road drivers are on the road day in and day out. Need a shower? Need a coffee? Clean laundry? How about a place to park for the night?

Drivers must think about the logistics of life on the road . They need to know where they will eat, shower and sleep. A good truck stop can make any trip better. Over your career, you’ll learn which truck stops are hidden gems and which you’d rather avoid at all costs.

Whether you’re stopping overnight, need to fuel up quickly or want a safe place to wait for severe weather to clear, truck stops are essential to every driver’s journey. We’ve compiled a list of popular truck stops in this article, including chains and independent businesses.

How Many Truck Stops Are in the USA?

The National Association of Truck Stop Operators (NATSO) represents more than 2,000 truck stops and travel centers. NATSO defines a “truck stop” as a location with at least one shower, 15 parking spaces and diesel available for sale.

From chain truck stops to mom-and-pop establishments, the number of truck stops open in the United States is much higher. Apps like Trucker Path track ratings for over 40,000 truck stops and travel centers in the United States and Canada. That’s a lot to choose from!

Largest Truck Stop Chains in America

Truck stop chains are dotted across the map. Most chains offer loyalty programs or rewards points that can be used at any location. As drivers earn points, they receive credit for showers, food and fuel.

Some of the largest truck stop chains include:

  • Pilot Flying J . With over 740 locations in 44 states, Pilot Flying J is the largest travel center operator in North America. Professional drivers have access to certified CAT scales, fuel stations, truck washes, service centers, laundry and showers. Their travel centers offer well-known fast-food providers, and the myRewards Plus app lets drivers earn free shower and drink credits.
  • Love’s Travel Stops . Founded in 1964, Love’s has over 550 locations in 41 states. Love’s provides fuel, tire care, mechanical services and travel essentials. The Love’s Connect app offers rewards for purchases made at Love’s or Speedco locations.
  • TA Travel Centers/Petro Truck Stops . TA and Petro truck stops offer truck maintenance services, fast-food options and 24-hour homestyle restaurants. Plus, you can reserve parking spaces up to 30 days in advance. With the TruckSmart mobile app, you can redeem points from the TA/Petro loyalty program.
  • Sapp Bros Travel Centers . In 2021, Sapp Bros. Travel Centers celebrated 50 years in business. They have 17 travel centers across the country, with most located in the West and Midwest. Of those locations, 10 include truck service centers and 15 have certified scales. Sapp Bros. offers a guest reward card to professional drivers and 24-hour roadside assistance.

How long will the solar eclipse darkness last in your city? Explore these interactive maps.

On april 8, millions of americans will find themselves in one of hundreds of cities directly on the total eclipse's path of totality. these maps offer a closer look..

the big apple travel center

Millions of Americans are about to find themselves directly in the path of a total solar eclipse that will shroud a lengthy swath of the nation in temporary darkness as it makes its way across the continent.

The Great American Eclipse, the first of its kind since 2017, will chart a path of totality April 8 along a southwest-to-northeast line through North America.

Daylight will give way to sudden darkness for a few brief minutes that day as the orbiting moon will appear as the same size as the sun, completely blocking its light. Many animals will fall silent while other nocturnal creatures will stir during the resulting "totality," whereby observers can see the outmost layer of the sun's atmosphere known as the corona.

The 115-mile-wide path of totality will pass over portions of Mexico and the United States, ending in Canada. In the U.S. alone, hundreds of cities and smaller towns in 13 states lie along the path, providing a glimpse to an estimated 31 million Americans of a spectacular sight not often seen, according to eclipse cartographer Michael Zeiler at  GreatAmericanEclipse.com .

These interactive maps provide a closer look at which U.S. cities are on the path, when the totality will reach them and how long the darkness will last.

Martian eclipse: Rover captures moon Phobos whizzing by Red Planet's sun's outline

Eclipse path of totality cuts across 13 U.S. states

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which will occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT,  according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow travels northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin at 1:27 p.m. CDT in Eagle Pass, Texas. From there, the path will cut diagonally across the country before ending around 3:33 p.m. EDT in Lee, Maine, according to nationaleclipse.com .

Along the way, periods of darkness could last a mere few seconds or, in some cities, could surpass four minutes.

Here's a map with just some of the larger cities in each of the 13 states to show how the duration of totality will vary along the path:

Millions of people in hundreds of cities could experience totality

All told, nearly 500 cities in the U.S. are located on the eclipse's path of totality. Some of the major cities include:

  • Dallas and San Antonio, Texas
  • Little Rock, Arkansas
  • Indianapolis
  • Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio
  • Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, New York
  • Erie, Pennsylvania

Additionally, small parts of Tennessee and Michigan are also expected to experience the eclipse,  NASA says .

This zoomable map provides a closer look at cities along the path, when totality will arrive there and how long totality will last:

In the United States, the eclipse's path will end before visiting the maritime provinces of Canada, according to estimates.

You may want to see it while you can: For North America, the next total solar eclipse won't be until 2044,  according to NASA .

Eclipse festivals, watch parties on the schedule

Such a rare event is sure to attract skygazing tourists unlucky enough to live outside the path of totality.

Fortunately, many cities that will experience the total eclipse are planning plenty of festivities for tourists and locals alike.

This map , courtesy of Kristian Campana at festivalguidesandreviews.com , includes locations of watch parties, music festivals and more all tied to the eclipse's arrival:
