All worked fine - delayed arrival but due to bad weather conditions- nothing predictable 😉

The trip took 25 minutes longer than expected due to traffic. No break to stretch ones legs. Wifi did not work and drivers says free seating which created confusion when some passengers later claimed their reserved seat..

The driver was sweet but the tires in desperate need of balancing. Massage all the way down. Everything else 👍

Got to Washington Union terminal an hour Late. Upset my plans big time. I got stranded along with my family before figuring out the right course of action for myself and then. Missed out on an important dinner appointment and a pickup arrangement. All plans for the evening got screwed up.Nobody ever informed me about the potential delay nor did they ever apologize about it. Ridiculous. My first ever travel with greyhound. I was let down in their reputation of what I had in my mind.

The driver was extremely unprofessional. Was very hostile towards passengers. Took long at every stop and yelled at everyone who spoke to her

The trip to Washington was fantastic. However, the return trip left much to be desired.

Everything was going good u til the stop at Baltimore. The bus stopped for way too long, without any justified reason. To add to that, the Air condition of the bus was shut off which was really very comfortable.

Our trip was at 2:am and I mistakenly went to 3rd Ave instead of 12th Ave where we had to meet our bus ,we were there at 1:54 am and I was surprised to meet the bus still there, they were patient with us we weren't rushed or anything and surprise surprise we reached our destination on time,my husband and I didn't sit together the 1st half of the trip but that's our fault we got to arrange seat halfway ,and I slept the rest of the way comfortable because the driver drove safely.

There was no punctuality we left 25 minutes after the planned time, the bus had no WiFi

BestBus

According to customer reviews, there were several issues with the service. Customers mentioned a lack of announcements and information about stops during the trip. The seats were also described as tight and uncomfortable compared to other buses they have taken. Additionally, one customer reported being dropped off at the wrong location in Washington DC instead of Vienna.

I liked the driver, he was very friendly and helpful 🙂 He communicated everything necessary with updates at all times. His driving skills were great and he knew what he was doing.I didn't enjoy the wifi connection was very poor, please try to improve it.

Bad driver (sharp breaking, acceleration) No Wifi No chargers Uncomfortable seating 1.5h delay

The bus ended up breaking down and which delayed us and it wasn’t the drivers fault he did everything he could, but we aren’t being compensated for this, especially being over 2 plus hours late to our destination.

The driver had personality, but he yelled a bit, difficult to understand. Another driver yelled at me. They weren’t parked where they said they’d be.

When to visit Washington, DC: a guide to the city’s best events

There’s never a bad time to visit the US capital, but ensure your visit coincides with one of these unmissable events to get a true taste of what makes DC unique.

Home to the corridors of power and a pantheon of white-marble monuments, the US capital packs some serious cultural punch, but that’s only half the story. Take a closer look and one of the country's most diverse cities reveals deliciously cosmopolitan neighbourhoods, home to vibrant arts, food and music scenes.

Just as eclectic is the city's calendar of events. Washington is a destination for all seasons, but a visit during one of its lively celebrations is a brilliant way to discover the city’s personality. Whether it’s to learn more about Indigenous American heritage, get a flavour of local jazz or experience the beauty of cherry blossom season, there’s a reason to visit all year long. Here are six of the most unmissable dates for your diary this year.

1. National Cherry Blossom Festival

20 March to 14 April

The most-anticipated event in the city’s calendar, the   National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the donation of 3,000 cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. For just a few weeks each spring, the city is ablaze with pink and white blooms. Strolling along blossom-strewn avenues is a spectacle in itself, but there’s a raft of events to mark the occasion, too. Ornate, Edo-style Japanese kites are just one of the displays of the Blossom Kite Festival (30 March), while Petalpalooza (6 April) is a day of family-friendly activities and entertainment on the banks of the Anacostia River, finishing with a spectacular fireworks display. The Sakura Matsuri Street Festival (13-14 April), meanwhile, is the largest celebration of Japanese culture in the United States and offers revellers the chance to try everything from martial arts to taiko drumming.

2. Passport DC

Explore the world during Passport DC , when embassies throw open their doors for the Around the World Embassy Tour (6 May), allowing guests to get hands-on with international cultures, from meeting alpacas at the Peruvian Embassy to karate lessons with the Japan Information and Culture Centre. EU Open House (11 May), meanwhile, is a day full of tastings and live demonstrations celebrating European cultures.

Not to be missed is Fiesta Asia! (20 May), when over a thousand exhibitors and performers representing 20 cultures gather for one of the country’s biggest Asian heritage festivals. Running between 3 rd and 6 th Streets, the block will be abuzz with live music and martial arts, a shopping bazaar, craft stalls and vendors serving Pan-Asian fare. Alternatively, swing by the Flower Mart between 3-4 May. Now in its 85 th year, the show dazzles with its horticultural displays, a second-hand sale and a 19 th -century carousel.

3. Capital Pride

31 May to 9 June

More than half a million friends of the LGBTQ+ community will fill the streets this summer when Capital Pride returns to DC. Among the highlights are the Pride Block Party (8   June), when 17 th Street will be transformed by a raft of food trucks and vendors, and the Pride Parade, which will set off from 3pm on the same day in a colourful celebration of love, diversity and inclusion.

The free Pride Festival, meanwhile, will close this year’s Pride on 9 June with a party on Pennsylvania Avenue — the full programme is still under wraps, but expect a whole day of advocacy, live music and entertainment across three stages, with plenty of food and drink to keep the party going. All eyes will be on Washington in 2025, too, when the city will have the honour of hosting World Pride (23 May to 8 June).

  4. Smithsonian Folklife Festival

26-30 June and 3-7 July

Held each year on the iconic National Mall, the   Smithsonian Folklife Festival has been a firm fixture on the DC cultural calendar since 1965, celebrating traditions from across the US and the wider world. Created in partnership with the National Museum of the American Indian, this year’s event focuses on Indigenous voices and their traditions. Visitors can gain insights into ancient ways of life and how they entwine with the modern day; learn about the importance of ancestral grains in cookery, the origins of Indigenous sports or how today’s youth are reclaiming Indigenous languages through hip-hop. Combine the festival with another Independence Day (4 July) celebration, including all the marching bands and flag-waving fanfare of the National Independence Day Parade . Alternatively, catch the Capitol Fourth concert, broadcast live from the West Lawn of the White House, where previous performers have included everyone from Aretha Franklin to the Muppets. Be sure to linger after dark, too — the fireworks display over the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is an unforgettable sight.

5. DC JazzFest

1 August to 31 September

One of America’s greatest musical gifts to the world, jazz takes centre stage this autumn at the DC JazzFest , when venues across the city come alive with foot-tapping rhythms and bluesy tunes. As well as promoting plenty of homegrown talent, the festival draws big names from the jazz world, too — Grammy Award winners Gregory Porter and Kenny Garrett topped the bill in 2023, while this year’s artists-in-residence include legendary bassist Ron Carter.

A programme of concerts, interviews and events will offer an eclectic taste of the genre, while the festival’s headline event — the two-day JazzFest at The Wharf — kicks off on Labor Day weekend (31 August to 1 September). With its boutique shops and restaurants, this lively stretch along the Potomac River is a beautiful spot for live music, with the Washington skyline providing a stunning backdrop.

6. Downtown Holiday Market

End of November to the end of December

While every Washington, DC season has its charms, winter in the US capital is undoubtedly special, with its kaleidoscopic light shows and seasonal events. Chief among them is the annual Downtown Holiday Market . Located in the historic neighbourhood of Penn Quarter, this free, open-air retail village aims to support small businesses and entrepreneurs across the region, including various Black-owned and minority-owned businesses.

This November marks 20 years of the beloved market, and, while the line-up is yet to be announced, many returning favourites and local vendors are predicted. Shoppers can expect to peruse a variety of stalls selling everything from handmade housewares to artisanal jewellery, vibrant art and quirky knick-knacks, while foodies can sample a variety of sweet, seasonal treats and international bites from the many food stalls. What’s more, a rotating line-up of regional performers and entertainers are anticipated to take to the event's live stage.

7. Restaurant Week

S ummer and winter

As well as boasting some local classics — don’t leave without trying a chilli half-smoke from Ben’s Chili Bowl, a DC institution since 1958 — Washington’s food scene is just as cosmopolitan as its people, from spicy Ethiopian chicken doro wat to pupusa, a dish that originated in El Salvador featuring flatbread stuffed with cheese and refried beans.

Held twice a year in summer and winter, Restaurant Week is the best time to tuck in: more than 150 restaurants across the metropolitan area participate in the seven-day event, offering generous discounts for diners — with multi-course dinner menus from $40-$60 (£32-£47) per person, or lunch and brunch deals from $25-$35 (£20-£28). Keep an eye out for restaurants offering wine and cocktail pairings, or splash out in one of 24 award-winning restaurants, many of which create special menus for Restaurant Week.

How to spend two days in washington, d.c..

D.C. is calling.

A destination rich in history and culture, Washington, D.C. , has endless attractions. More than simply the nation’s capital, a politician’s escape or a school field trip destination, Washington has become a vibrant melting pot of excellent hotels, standout dining and ample cultural experiences.

We’ve compiled a quick escape guide. While we’re approaching spring’s iconic National Cherry Blossom Festival (March 20 to April 14), note that there’s no “best” time to visit the District because the weather tends to be moderate year-round.

Riggs Washington DC offers a convenient starting point for those looking to experience the best of this vibrant city in a brief time. The centrally located property is just off the Gallery Place/Chinatown and Metro Center metro stops, which cover all existing lines and provide proximity to all city areas within a few minutes’ walk. The retro-chic bank-turned-hotel and its buzzy Silver Lyan cocktail bar make it an attractive post-sightseeing sanctuary.

Relax in Riggs’ guest room.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the Riggs’ restaurant, Café Riggs, known for its locally sourced ingredients, or pop by a local spot (we love Tatte Bakery ) for a quick bite. After breakfast, take a leisurely 15-minute walk to the National Mall , a sprawling open park where most of the Smithsonian museums are located. As you stroll past the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial , you’ll get your blood pumping. Take your time to explore and absorb the significance of these national treasures. Not sure you want to walk that much? Segway and hop-on, hop-off ride options are also available. And, of course, Riggs could arrange a private driver-guide.

Whatsapp suddenly issues surprise update warning for all users, emma stone wins 2024 oscars best actress, topping fellow favorite lily gladstone.

By midday, you’ll have worked up an appetite, so pause for lunch at an iconic D.C. address. Stop by Old Ebbitt Grill for oysters, a top-notch Reuben or roasted turkey sandwich and some bipartisan political gossip.

Come afternoon, it’s museum time. There’s an attraction for everyone, so plan to hit at least two during your stay. The National Museum of American History , with its gallery of first lady dresses and the original Star-Spangled Banner, the interactive National Museum of African American History & Culture and the National Gallery of Art are all essential visits.

Visit the National Gallery of Art.

Kids may prefer the National Museum of Natural History ‘s dinosaurs or the National Air and Space Museum ‘s planes and IMAX screenings. You can’t go wrong with any of them. And unlike many cities, all of the Smithsonian museums are free, and most don’t require advance ticketing or reservations.

That evening, freshen up back at Riggs before heading out for dinner. (If you need an outfit, the high-end shopping at CityCenter , with Hermès, Louis Vuitton and more, is just a few blocks from the D.C. hotel.) For dinner, take a quick Uber to L’Ardente for modern Italian (the Caesar salad is to die for, as is the 40-layer lasagna), hot new French spot L’Avante Garde or some of the best Indian in the nation at Rasika, which is a fast 10-minute walk.

Check out Georgetown.

On your second day, venture out to the historic neighborhood of Georgetown. Start with brunch at one of the quaint cafés lining the cobblestone streets — one of our favorites is Baked and Wired , which also offers amazing cupcakes for those with a sweet tooth. However, if you’re visiting on a weekend, there’s no better power brunch than Seasons at the Five-Star Four Seasons Hotel Washington, D.C. Post-brunch, take some time to peruse the boutique shops and galleries that make Georgetown a unique shopping destination.

After exploring Georgetown, head toward the Dupont Circle area, known for its vibrant atmosphere and cultural institutions. Visit the Phillips Collection , America’s first museum of modern art, to see works by Renoir, Rothko and other masters. If you need a break from museums and are visiting on a weekday, learn a bit more about the city’s political past. White House tours are possible during most times of the year but require pre-registration 21 to 90 days in advance and are requested via your member of Congress .

Tour the White House.

For your final evening, indulge in a show at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts . This premier cultural venue brings a mix of opera, symphony, concerts and touring Broadway shows to the city. Before the show, enjoy a rooftop dinner at the Terrace Restaurant for panoramic views of the Potomac River.

After dinner, consider a moonlit stroll around the Tidal Basin, where the Jefferson Memorial stands majestically against the night sky.

The Best Places to See Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C., This Year

Make the most of your time in the nation’s capital when the city is painted pink.

March 19, 2024, marks the spring equinox, the day when the sun crosses the equator and heads north. Those in the Northern Hemisphere can look forward to longer hours of serotonin-boosting sunshine, warmer temperatures, and nature budding back to life.

Few U.S. cities undergo this seasonal transformation more beautifully and dramatically than Washington, D.C., with its 3,800 cherry blossom trees. Gifted to the nation's capital by Tokyo's late mayor, Yukio Ozaki, back in 1912, they remain a visually striking symbol of renewal, hope, and friendship.

Their synchronized blooming is so cherished that there's an annual National Cherry Blossom Festival (held this year from March 20 through April 14) that draws more than 1.5 million people from around the globe. As for the best time to see the blooms? The National Park Service predicts peak blooms from March 23 to 26 in 2024, and visitors can stay tuned to the NPS Bloom Watch website for updated information about their progress.

Because the window to view the cherry blossoms is so fleeting, here's a handy guide to help you strategize and make the most of a trip to Washington, D.C., to see the stunning display this spring.

Tidal Basin

One of the most photographed sites during cherry blossom season, this 10-foot-deep reservoir between the Potomac River and Washington Channel reflects the more than 1,400 Yoshino cherry trees that border it. Their soft, whitish-pink hue and delicate almond scent entice the senses. This basin also provides terrific photo ops near the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

But with such wide appeal comes crowds. If you want to steer clear of the masses, drop by early in the morning when the natural light illuminates everything, including the water, with a warm, flattering glow. Or, a smarter option, book a room at the Salamander . The stately hotel boasts unfettered views of the Tidal Basin, plus, it's within easy walking distance to the trees.

U.S. National Arboretum

Situated on the eastern edge of the nation's capital, the U.S. National Arboretum maintains a wonderfully hushed vibe all year round. This nature and preservation center is quite isolated, accessible only by car and stretching across 446 acres. It boasts more than 70 types of cherry trees. Also worth scoping out is the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum , which displays about 60 diminutive, meticulously pruned specimens.

For some of the city's top locally owned restaurants, hop back in the car and head about two miles away to the H Street Corridor. The buzzy neighborhood is home to The Little Grand , which serves up cocktails and pizzas by beloved New York chef Bobby Hellen in a stylish, discreet setting. Another exciting option, Daru turns out delicious riffs on classic Indian dishes. (The black daal with burrata is a knockout.)

National Mall

Another popular stop for visitors regardless of the time of year is the National Mall. To peep the puffy blossoms, head just west of the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument, where you'll spot little clusters of trees.

For a bite nearby — and since you'll already be on your feet — stroll over to Old Ebbitt Grill , a beloved city institution founded in 1856, known for its raw bar, crab cakes, and burgers. Another terrific option is Immigrant Food by chef Enrique Limardo. The visionary concept celebrates the rich culinary contributions of America's immigrants in a vibrant, colorful setting.

Dumbarton Oaks Gardens

The Dumbarton Oaks Gardens, encompassing 16 acres, is home to the aptly named Cherry Hill . Come springtime, the slope transforms into a cascading sea of pink with various types of trees, including Sargent's and winter-flowering cherries. You can also spot other resplendent blooms (magnolias, forsythias, and tulips) around this time of year.

Afterward, treat yourself to a well-crafted drink. Lead bartender Engidawork "Engi" Alebachew is shaking up original libations for the occasion at Bourbon Steak in the Four Seasons. And at Fitzgerald's , a swanky lounge steps away from the Georgetown University campus, you can pair elevated bar snacks like Korean chicken wings or a local cheese board with some Japanese whisky from the extensive collection.

Hains Point Loop Trail

Prefer to explore the city via bike? Check out Hains Point Loop Trail in East Potomac Park. The flat, four-mile cycling route runs along the Potomac River, Anacostia River, and Washington Channel, and past iconic monuments and plenty of cherry trees. For a pit stop, visit Navy Yard, the waterfront district that's boomed in recent years with noteworthy dining options. The Salt Line by Kyle Bailey specializes in sustainable seafood from New England to the Chesapeake Bay.
