Highly disrespectful and inconsiderate modus operandi

As a guesthouse owner, I find Safarinow's way of working to be highly disrespectful and inconsiderate. Dates and quotes are asked for, all of which take time to prepare in terms of the administration involved, and then there is not even a courtesy email from the agent to the guesthouse to inform them that a quote has not been accepted. Surely, they must comprehend that to provide a quote, the establishment must first provisionally reserve those dates. What is the point of providing a quote with no provisionally reserved dates? Should the quote be accepted by the guest, the establishment may not be able to honour it, because the room or dates may very well no longer be available. This would leave the guesthouse/establishment, the travel agent, and the end client/guest in a difficult situation. When I complained about this to an agent, I was told I should never book a date until it is confirmed. What an utterly nonsensical response. It speaks volumes about how out of touch Safarinow and its agents are. I strongly recommend that Safarinow relooks the levels of consideration and respect afforded to their accommodation establishment 'partners', in terms of their current modus operandi and 'I couldn't care less about your problem' attitude with regard to this. If I ask three suppliers for a quote, I have the courtesy of thanking them all and informing them as to whether or not they have been awarded the quote. I expect the same professional courtesy from Safarinow and their travel agents. Until then, I will not waste any more of my valuable time providing them with pointless quotes. I encourage guests to book directly with guesthouses and completely cut out the inconsiderate middleman who just fattens up the bill, and ultimately creates a frustrating, and unsatisfactory outcome for everyone. Dina Devine, guest house owner and manager.

Be warned about this booking agency!

Be warned about this booking agency!! There is absolutely no service for valid complaints. I had booked accomodation at Neptune`s Isle in Cape Town and on arrival found the place run down, torn and broken furniture, and non-functioning and dangerous stove. No WiFi as promised. I complained in writing to Safari Now, to no avail. They just could not care. Proof of my allegations can be furnished. I can only warn anybody to deal with Safari Now, they are not trustworthy. R. Forced to postpone now booking is MIA

Made a booking earlier this year but had to cancel due to COVID lock-down. Somewhere between the booking and then wanting to cancel the establishment changed the T's & C's (wish i'd made a screen shot when i made the booking). They wouldn't refund me even though I gave 2 months notice so had to postpone to later this year (did receive confirmation). Fast forward I wanted to double check my booking and it is nowhere to be found (where i was able to access it via my profile before, now it shows i have no bookings). I've sent numerous emails to Safari.com but get no response.

Voucher not honoured

I have recently received a voucher to use by midnight on 31 Aug. When I tried on the morning of 31st Aug to use it for a booking I am told that it has expired. I tried to query by email. No answer tried phoning - no answer. They need to be reported to Consumer Protection for all the fraud experienced by many as reported in Trustpilot. I suspect that the business may have closed down. I hope so.

SafariNow is Either Terribly Run or an Absolute Scam. AVOID!

I booked a B&B through SafariNow, sent my proof of payment several times in various formats, and they continue to claim they never received it. I ended up having to call the B&B directly while I was en route to it and pay them again to stay there for the night. Luckily they could still accommodate me. I'm not sure if SafariNow is terribly run or an absolute scam but AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I made a booking in East London for 23 - 28 December 2020. I received news the next day which is preventing me to follow through on the visit. I sent an email to Safarinow on 21 November to cancel my booking. In the confirmation of the original booking the said we could gey a full refund within 5 days if we cancelled 28 days before the booking. I have received no acknowledgement of receip/ of my cancellation as yet. I sent 3 email again on 24 November to reservations, info and cancellations. Still no reaction. You cannot reach them by phone. What other option is there for me??

Attention SCAM

Attention SCAM, please be careful not to book via SAFARINOW.COM!!!! I have booked an overnight stay for 6 people through SAFARINOW.COM. We have received the confirmation of the booking from "Lemala Wildwaters Lodge" and paid a deposit to SAFARINOW.COM. Lemala Wildwaters Lodge now wants the deposit from SAFARINOW for our reservation, which SAFARINOW has not yet paid. SAFARINOW can hardly be reached by phone and does not respond to EMAILS. This behaviour of SAFARINOW corresponds to a SCAM, which issues a proper invoice for the payment and makes the payments due to the accommodation. Please do not book via SAFARINOW, this is the behaviour of a typical SCAM.

Do Not Book by Safarinow

Although I have booked several times in the past through Safarinow without any problems, now I have to warn against bookings. I was forced to cancel a booking due to COVID-19. Although the cancellation was on time and was confirmed by Safarinow, I am waiting for the repayment for weeks. I have sent reminders several times without receiving any further reaction from Safarinow. The landlady of the B&B which I booked referred to me to Safarinow for the refund, unfortunately without success. At the same time I hear from friends in South Africa that Safarinow has been keeping the landlords waiting for their money too; there seems to be also various newspaper reports about Safarinow and this cases.

Did some research in looking for a place in Cape Town, Safarinow looked good and I sent an enquiry. WARNING: You will get spam text messages and emails, endlessly, two a day, even when you unsubscribe, highly annoying and the main reason for this review. Other than the spam the site seems fine.

Disappointed

I made a booking for Dec 2020 and paid 50% deposit. I need to cancel due to work obligations. I have sent various e-mails to Safarinow to cancel the bookings. When you call you get this poor recording nobody can understand. After 12 e-mails and 3 phone calls there are no response. I am very disappointed because I trusted them since 2011 for my bookings. Now I am done with them

Beware of this company - their refund policy is BS!

Despite Safarinow saying they will refund me within 5 days, I am struggling to get my money returned after a cancellation. They tell me that they need to get the money back from the venue first before they can refund me - this is not what they say on the Proof of Booking email where it clearly says “Safarinow will refund you with 5 days of a cancellation”. Beware of this company..!!

SAFARINOW IS LONG OVERDUE WITH PAYMENTS

We are an establishment listed with Safarinow and have been waiting for payment of monies due to us for over 120 days. They don't answer emails and don't take calls with a message saying the are still participating in the Lockdown, respite travel being reopened. Be very careful when dealing with this company!

I booked a night stay with a hotel but unfortunately safarinow is not responding and didn't pay the deposit over to the hotel. And contacting them has resulted in no fruit. The receptionist from the hotel helped us and said we could sort it out the next day because she has alot of problems with safarinow rather book with lekkeslaap. Refund received

I had to cancel a booking when S. A went into lockdown. They didn't reply to emails but when I contacted them via FB they said they were closed but promised me a refund after lockdown ended. I think the hospitality industry has only just opened and I have now received my refund. So although communication wasn't great initially I think that the company is trustworthy and hopefulky others will soon receive refunds also.

A warning to all Don’t book through SafariNow because you can end up in a dump and not what you booked for. SafariNow do not take any responsibility for the state of the establishment that you book and they will not refund you. We asked the services of Safarine Tours for an ethical group meeting with the elephants. We are delighted with this choice. Exchanges by email and phone before our trip, on arrival one of the managers came to welcome us. Pick up at our hotel, organization of days, meals! Everything was perfect ! Thanks to Safarine Tours and its team, I will not hesitate to call on you again, during a next stay. Christine Bonnemains

Safarinow poorest of poor service

Made a booking for n week's stay in Graaff Reinet. No correspondence pertaining to the payment I made after the booking was made, despite proof of payment being sent to Safari Now by me and my host. Trying to phone the company was futile. I now am going to pay the host again and It seems my first payment will be pocketed by Safari Now. PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY ANS STAY AWAY FROM IT AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE.

Establishment owner's response to SafariNow service

As an owner of an establishment listed with Safarinow, we are satisfied with the exposure ito advertising that our establishment gets. However, a huge problem is getting our payment from Safarinow. They NEVER pay on time and their agents are exceptionally rude when they are reminded to on-pay the money paid by guests. They NEVER offer an apology or on-pay the interest which they so happily earn from keeping guests' payments for a minimum of 8 working days. When problems are escalated to the Finance manager, she also does not have the courtesy to respond. I advise guests to make bookings through Lekkeslaap or Travelground instead.

This company is a SCAM

This company is a SCAM! I booked online to start at Nairobi National Park and when I arrived there told me the reservation was not confirmed, but they still charged for something that we NEVER used!!!! I sent multiple emails and called them with NO RESPONSE. DONT USE THEM, save yourself a hassle.

SCAM.... PLEASE DO NOT USE SAFARINOW

Safarinow is scam and fraudulent travel agent in South Africa. They don’t only lie to travelers, they lie to establishments too. The people behind this travel agent are heartless. I have been waiting for my refund from them with no success. I canceled my booking due to Covid19 and within 25 days before my arrival. Safarinow never gave me my refund up to this day. They lied saying that they deposited the funds to my bank account which they did not. Up to this day I am waiting for my money. I am taking a legal action against them. Not only to get my refund put to expose them and to fight the principle. They give you headaches instead of giving you your money. I advise everyone to stay away from using Safarinow. They are FRAUDULENT

Travelstart acquires SafariNow.com

TravelStart

Online travel agent Travelstart has bought a majority stake in Cape Town-based SafariNow.com , South Africa’s largest accommodation booking website.

SafariNow.com has both the informal (self-catering and vacation rentals) and formal sector (hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts).

“We want to supercharge our accommodation offering and with more than 23 000 listings on SafariNow, we can give our customers much better choices,” said Travelstart’s founder and CEO Stephan Ekbergh.

SafariNow.com will stick to its core business of selling accommodation and retain its current brand, CEO and team. Though SafariNow will continue to run as a standalone business, it’s 40-man team sees Travelstart fast-track the growth of its accommodation offering.

“Travelstart shares our mission of transforming the travel-booking experience to be simple and powerful,” said Tom Williams, CEO of SafariNow. “We’ve booked millions of bed-nights in the past 18 years and we’re excited to tackle this next chapter with a strong, supportive partner.

It’s a major plus for establishments who list with us as it will result in greater exposure for their listing.”

Terms of the acquisition were not be disclosed. The deal consolidates Travelstart’s business in Africa as Booking.com and Airbnb expand across the continent. The acquisition is a matter of supply; Africa in general has many complexities where global players like Airbnb and Booking.com struggle to navigate.

Travelstart and SafariNow definitely have home ground advantage in terms of getting the right supply at the right price for African consumers. They also understand the nuances of the various African markets

How-To Geek

Speedometer 3.0 can test your browser’s real-world performance.

It's designed to simulate regular web browsing and using web apps.

Web browser benchmarks are mainly used to compare the performance of different browsers, or different versions of the same browser), but they can also be helpful to check general web browsing speed on a given device. Now there’s a new benchmark you can try: Speedometer 3.0.

Speedometer has been one of the most popular web benchmarks since the first version was released in 2014 . It’s designed to measure web app responsiveness by simulating user actions, like clicking a button or opening a menu, unlike some other benchmarks that test raw CPU or GPU performance. Speedometer 2.0 was released in 2018, using a different mix of common web libraries and frameworks, and now Speedometer 3.0 has arrived.

The BrowserBench team explained in a blog post, “Today’s release of Speedometer 3.0 marks a major step forward in web browser performance testing: it introduces a better way of measuring performance and a more representative set of tests that reflect the modern Web.” The new benchmark is a collaborative effort between the developers for Blink (the engine in Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers), Gecko (the engine in Firefox), and WebKit (the engine in Apple Safari).

Speedometer 3.0 adds several new tests based around rendering canvas and SVG charts, code editing, text editing, and reading news sites. Many of the existing tests have been updated, and more complex versions have been added to “more closely emulate the page weight and structure from popular webapps today.” It also more accurately measures browser rendering time.

You can try Speedometer 3.0 in your web browser today to see how your device and browser stacks up. There are no public rankings like Geekbench and other popular benchmark tools, since it’s more intended for software developers than anyone else, but you can find people posting their scores on social media. It’s a great way to see which browser performs the best on your device—just turn off any extensions and only run one test at a time for the most accurate results.

The WebKit team said in a blog post, “Speedometer 2.0 has been an exciting collaboration between browser vendors. We would like to build on this collaboration in future iterations of the benchmark by working more closely with framework authors and the developer community to identify broadly-used patterns, frameworks, and tools for which browser engines could be optimized.”

Research project at the Safari Park gives new insight on San Diego's rattlesnakes

safari now.com

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — A new research collaboration between the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and San Diego State University is shedding new light on one of the county's most well-known and least-understood animals: the rattlesnake.

“Knowing what the animals are doing, how much space they’re using, and what behaviors they’re using are going to help us conserve them," said Jeff Lemm, who has been researching snakes at the San Diego Zoo for more than 30 years.

Snakes are notoriously hard to study because they stay out of view as much as possible. "They’re mysterious. We just don’t know enough about them," Lemm said. "We’re very much trying to change that. We need to learn about these animals so we can help conserve them.”

The research team is attaching small devices onto red diamond rattlesnakes that inhabit the hills surrounding the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The devices are giving 24/7 data on where the snakes go and what they do. That, in turn, gives useful information that can help guide conservation policy, including insight on how much room is needed for a healthy rattlesnake population and what impact human developments, such as roads, have on the snakes' native ranges.

Luke bryan's nashville bar investigated for allegedly overserving still-missing riley strain, 981 3/14/2024 5:35 pm pt.

Luke Bryan 's Nashville bar is alleged to have overserved a Missouri college student who went missing last week -- and now a state agency has launched an investigation into it.

The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission -- the licensing authority for manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of booze beverages in the state -- tells TMZ ... while there's no specific rule that dictates a business escorting out intoxicated patrons, let alone providing assistance to said patrons, there are laws about providing too much alcohol to someone.

We're told Tennessee law prohibits serving alcoholic beverages to someone who is visibly intoxicated -- and any violation of this is considered a class A misdemeanor.

As it pertains to claims that Riley Strain , who's still missing, was overserved ... we're told the TABC has opened an investigation to see if any violations have occurred in this matter.

Remember, it was cops who suggested Riley might've been overserved Friday when he and some friends hit the town and ended up at Luke's 32 Bridge -- where the 22-year-old was reportedly kicked out ... and where he got separated from his party and went off on his own.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

As the story goes ... Riley apparently told his friends he'd meet them back at their hotel -- but he was nowhere to be found when the rest of the guys showed up. As of Thursday, there's still no sign of him ... despite an extensive search effort throughout the city.

Crews have scoured the streets, and the search for Riley has even extended to the riverbank nearby -- as some suspect he may have gotten lost and perhaps fallen into the water.

Remember, surveillance footage of Riley stumbling along the streets of Nashville has surfaced ... and he looks out of sorts, and possibly under the influence too. It's eerie video, no doubt.

Luke himself spoke out on the story, asking for prayers. He also noted his bar was cooperating with law enforcement and providing any surveillance video of their own that could help find him. We reached out to them on this latest update, but they had no comment.

Nashville PD also gave an update Thursday on where they were in the case ... noting they were scouring through tons of tips, and said they might bring in state and/or federal help if they feel they need it. For now, it sounds like it's just them handling things internally.

Riley's family has said they're living through a nightmare as they continue to look for him. Riley had apparently FaceTimed his mom earlier in the evening, and she said nothing seemed amiss then, even though they knew he was bar hopping.

Cops are asking anyone with reliable information on Riley's whereabouts to call 615-742-7463.

Android Police

Chrome on android really needs to learn this simple trick from safari.

With these auto-close options, tab management has never been easier

One of the best parts of my job as Phones Editor at Android Police is how easy it makes comparing Android to its sole remaining rival. While I know some readers prefer to pretend iOS doesn't exist, the truth is that, at least in North America, the iPhone is eating Android's lunch right now. Learning more about the pros — and cons — of that walled garden can add a lot of context to the modern state of smartphones, whether you're talking about modern messaging platforms or, well, something much smaller.

And as interesting as the fight over blue and green bubbles grew over the last few months — multiple members of Congress released statements about it, and I'm not over it — I'm here today to shine a light on something more minute. While Chrome on Android might be the better browser overall, I've found it to feel pretty stagnant over the last few years. And while there's no shortage of features I'd love for Google to adopt from its rivals , number one on my wishlist comes from an unlikely place: Safari.

Generally, I find Safari on iOS to be a fine browser. I really like its bottom bar navigation menu, something you'll find on other Android browsers like Samsung Internet, but since my bookmarks live in Chrome, I often find myself leaving all other browsers behind anyway. That said, it has a single option that would make mobile browsing on any platform better: the ability to automatically close tabs after a set amount of time.

Auto-closing tabs is a browsing godsend

Never think about tab management again.

Although Safari leaves this feature off by default, you can set your browser to automatically clear inactive tabs after a day, week, or a month. Personally, any time I'm using an iPhone, it's set to a day. If I haven't interacted with random search results or some longform editorial within 24 hours, I'm probably never going to get back to it. So rather than having my tab count build up until I manually clear it — or, worse, until I see that dreaded smiley face — the phone just clears them for me.

I know what you're thinking: what if you want certain tabs to be kept alive for longer than a full day? Interacting with any given tab extends its life, something particularly useful for when I'm constantly revisiting a page throughout the day. Recipes and game guides are perfect examples — you don't need to worry about losing your shopping list if it's something you're actively returning to. And if something does disappear, it's still in your recent history. Pulling it back up is as easy as scrolling through your list of recent websites.

Without realizing it, I built up 10 Chrome tabs on my Galaxy S24 Ultra. Meanwhile, iOS allows me to auto-close those tabs with a single setting.

Obviously, Chrome does make it relatively easy to clear all of your open tabs with just a few taps, but I find Apple's automated approach here is just… better. It lets me keep tabs alive that I actually need without having to put any real thought into it. Meanwhile, Google's all-or-none method means I'm constantly swiping away a dozen or more tabs just to keep two or three active. It's frustrating, and for a browser with as much flexibility as Chrome offers, I'm surprised we haven't seen something like this arrive on Android.

It really is the little things

Subtle ux changes can make or break an app.

I'm not going to pretend this is some life-changing feature, of course. But it's been months since I last reviewed an iPhone , and I haven't stopped missing this feature across three different Android devices. So please, Google, I'm begging: add this as an option in Chrome. Even if it ends up hidden behind a flag, it would make tab management on mobile a whole lot better. As it stands now, though, it's just another lesson Chrome could learn from Safari .
