Cruises from Miami depart year-round. The Greater Miami area is home to a diverse array of cultures, cuisines and activities. Cruises along Biscayne Bay drink in the skyscraper-studded coastline, and in glitzy Miami Beach, beachgoers frolic against the backdrop of vibrant art deco buildings. Nightlife hot spot South Beach buzzes with activity into the early morning hours. Coral Gables' tree-lined avenues house notable landmarks like the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and the Venetian Pool, a historic 1923 swimming hole fed by spring water. The city offers plenty to do, with numerous museums and professional sports teams, marinas and yacht clubs, golf courses and more, but some visitors head southwest to Everglades National Park. The 1.5 million acre preserve hosts boating and canoeing excursions as well as wildlife-spotting treks to see alligators and manatees.

Norwegian Sky Itineraries

Norwegian sky review, review of norwegian sky.

The 1999-built Norwegian Sky cruise ship is NCL's first Sky-class vessel, with sisterships Norwegian Sun and Costa Victoria (1996-2021).

The vessel (IMO number 9128532) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 308865000) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is a subsidiary company of the shipping corporation Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH). NCL was founded in 1966, headquartered in Miami (Florida USA) and publicly traded (NASDAQ) company listed on NYSE ( NYC ). NCLH's major shareholders are the corporations Apollo Global Management (American), Genting Group (Malaysian) and TPG Capital (American). In 2017, the brand NCL had a worldwide cruise market share 8,7% (passengers) and 8,4% (revenue). NCLH (shipowner) owns the brands NCL , Oceania and RSSC-Regent .

NCL Norwegian Sky cruise ship

The 2000-passenger ship Norwegian Sky started operations on August 9, 1999, with the inaugural 4-day roundtrip from Dover to Norway's Fjords. The cruise ship was refurbished and changed her name several times. She is designed in beautiful tropical colors. NCL Sky was originally ordered by Costa Cruises as Costa Olympia, but later the company refused the vessel. In the period 2004-2008, it was operated by NCL America and sailed as "Pride of Aloha" - USA- flagged , but owned by GHK-Genting Hong Kong.

Decks and Cabins

Norwegian Sky staterooms (1002 total, in 27 grades) include 15x Suites, 245x Balcony, 319x Oceanview and 423x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 120-150 ft2 (11-14 m2). The largest accommodations are the Owners Suites (350 ft2 / 32 m2, with terrace sized 300 ft2 / 28 m2).

The boat has 12 decks , of which 9 are passenger-accessible and 7 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Just as Norwegian Sky has changed since her launch, so has Freestyle Cruising. The program is simply considered as the choice to dine where you want, when you want, and take part only in those activities that interest you. Cruisers can have a good time with freestyle dining onboard Norwegian Sky and a lot of options to choose from. They can try gourmet cuisine or go to Le Bistro to taste innovative dishes. Norwegian Sky offers two main dining rooms for the passengers seeking traditional dining experience: Crossings and Palace, both very flexible. Guests can make reservations for the same time each night, or choose different times, based on their schedule. Both MDRs are open nightly for dinner. Each day, one of the two provides open-seating breakfast and lunch. Compared to the cuisine and service in the specialty restaurants, the dining rooms experience doesn't lag. Service in Crossings and Palace is better than that of bigger cruise ships.

Itineraries

Norwegian Sky itinerary program is based on 3- and 4-day short Bahamas cruises from Miami Florida . Feature port destinations include Nassau and NCL's private island Great Stirrup Cay Bahamas .

  • NCL Sky's 2017-2018 itinerary program offered 4-night voyages from Miami to Cuba with Havana overnights (May through December 2017). The itinerary also visited Great Stirrup Cay.
  • With Norwegian Sky, NCL's first-ever ship call at Havana was on May 2, 2017 (overnight). NCL Sky's Cuban cruise prices started from USD 700 per person (inclusive of unlimited drinks).
  • In 2018, NCL expanded the Cuba program to a total of 63 itineraries, most of which with Havana overnights. The season (4-day Miami roundtrips) started on March 26, 2018. The number of previously scheduled 2018 NCL Cuba cruises was 30 (through December 2017).
  • NCL's Cuban cruise program was based on two Florida-homeported liners - Norwegian Sky (from Miami) and Norwegian Sun (from Port Canaveral). Following the US Gov's June 2019-issued ban on group travel to Cuba from the USA, NCL revised all its scheduled itineraries visiting Cuban seaports. All planned departures beyond September 2 (2019) were auto-canceled. Cuba-visiting itineraries prior to September 2nd were modified to exclude Havana and visit other Caribbean ports - including in Bahamas ( Great Stirrup Cay Island , Freeport , Nassau ) and Florida ( Key West Florida ).

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the NCL Sky ship was paused for 2 years (March 2020 thru 2022), restarting on March 2nd with 3-4-5-day roundtrips from Miami to the Bahamas.

The ship's 2023 schedule (September-October) has a mini-season based on homeporting in Baltimore MD (at Cruise Maryland Terminal). The program includes 10-11-day Canada and New England itineraries between USA and Canada ( Baltimore and Quebec City ) visiting Halifax, Bar Harbor, Shelburne Harbour, Oak Bluffs Marina, Baie-Comeau.

Norwegian Sky Wiki

Norwegian Sky is of the Sky-Class NCL liners, with sisterships NCL Sun and Costa Victoria . Vessel's construction started as an order from Costa Cruises (Costa Crociere) placed to Bremer Vulkan AG (1893-1997 / bankruptcy, a shipbuilding company, Bremen Germany) as the 2nd in a pair of Costa newbuilds . The ship name in this order was "Costa Olympia". Due to Vulkan's financial problems at that time, Costa Olympia's construction was suspended with only ~1/3 of the vessel completed. On October 5, 1996, Olympia's incomplete hull was floated out from drydock.

Costa didn't pay for the incomplete vessel, so it was laid up until December 1997, when NCL purchased it and re-designed it as "Norwegian Sky" (using the services of Tillberg Design, Sweden). NCL Sky's construction was continued at Lloyd Werft's shipyard in Bremerhaven (another major German shipbuilder) to where the hull was towed on March 8, 1998. The ship was officially acquired by NCL on July 29, 1999. The Inaugural Cruise (Maiden Voyage) was on August 9, 1999 (Norway Fjords from Dover England ), also featuring 20th century's last total solar eclipse. Ship's inaugural USA season started from homeport Boston MA to Canada-New England (Sept 18, 1999) and from homeport Miami FL to Caribbean (Nov 14, 1999).

Ship's godparents were its entire crew. The liner was christened during the August 9 cruise (1999). As "Norwegian Sky", it was operated between 1999-2004. On July 4, 2004, the vessel left drydock in San Francisco CA as "Pride of Aloha".

Pride of Aloha ship's godmother was Margaret Awamura Inouye - wife of US Senator Daniel Inouye (Hawaii). The liner operated exclusively Hawaiian Islands cruises in 2004-2008. During that period, it was US- flagged and operated by the "NCL America" brand (NCLH's subsidiary). In NCL America's fleet, Aloha was joined in 2006 by the sistership Pride of Hawaii (now Norwegian Jade).

NCL originally planned to sell the vessel to Star Cruises (GHK-owned company). Later a decision was announced to sell it to Pullmantur ( RCL-Royal Caribbean brand in Spain). In May 2008, NCL announced that the ship stays in the fleet. After being re-flagged to the Bahamas, it re-entered service as "Norwegian Sky". The second "Maiden Voyage" (now as NCL Sky) was on July 14, 2008.

In early-2009, NCL Sky was sold to GHK (Genting Hong Kong). NCL operated the vessel under one-year charter, with the options to extend the charter, but also to buy the vessel during the charter period. On June 1, 2012, NCL exercised the option and bought the ship for ~USD 260 million.

Norwegian Sky was the first ever passenger liner with an Internet Cafe (via satellite connection). At that time, this venue had 9 PC terminals for going online at sea. List of services (available 24 hours a day, at US$20 per hour or 33 cents per min) included emailing, PC games, photo imaging, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps, printing. Sky is also NCL's first ever ship equipped with "Bridge Cam" (digital camera offering 24-hour real-time views from the bow / updated every 15 min).

Since January 2016, all NCL Sky passengers leaving from Miami FL enjoy free unlimited drinks (including alcohol - beers, wines, premium spirits). All onboard beverages (normally priced up to USD 11) are included in cruise fares. The list includes cocktails, premium spirits, bottled beers, draft beers, wines by the glass. Passengers 3 to 20 years of age also enjoy unlimited drinks - soda and juices. Being the oldest in the fleet, Norwegian Sky operates on short cruises (3- and 4-day Miami roundtrips) to the Bahamas - the whole year-round. The all-inclusive cruising experience includes unlimited beverages also on NCL's private island Great Stirrup Cay , which is paired in the itinerary together with Nassau .

In 2017, Sky became NCL's first liner with itineraries visiting Cuba. The Cuban cruise program (May through December 2017) offered 4-day roundtrips from PortMiami (Monday departures) with Havana overnights. The itinerary also visited NCL's private island Great Stirrup Cay . Bookings on NCL's Cuban cruises opened on February 21, 2017.

The next table shows NCL Sky's first cruise to Cuba (itinerary May 1-5) with the port times.

The 4-day roundtrip Miami cruise prices started from USD 950 pp (double occupancy inside cabin rates).

During drydock refurbishment 2017, the ship was retrofitted with new "scrubbers" (exhaust gas cleaning systems). The new scrubber technology reduces the equivalent of approx 1500 tons of the poisonous gas Sulfur Oxide. Norwegian Cruise Line was the first cruise company retrofitting with a scrubber hybrid system vessels while in service. The new in-line scrubbers (5 units) are lightweight and able to operate in a dry mode, as well as in open and closed loops.

During drydock 2019 (Jan 25 - Feb 6, done at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport Bahamas ), renovations were made to the pool deck and some lounges, also the Starbucks Coffee Bar was added.

Drydock 2022 (Jan 5 - Feb 7) was conducted in France, at Damen Shiprepair Brest .

Alaska Cruise Cost

Courtesy of Holland America Line

If you're planning a cruise to Alaska this year, you may be enticed by low prices (in the hundreds) for a weeklong cruise. However, it's important to know that those fares are just the beginning of the cost for the entire trip.

Typically, the lowest advertised prices with mainstream cruise lines don't include taxes and port fees, specialty dining costs, alcoholic or nonalcoholic drinks, shore excursions , Wi-Fi access, gratuities and other expenses. On top of that, bargain fares usually refer to inside cabins with no windows. In a picturesque, bucket list destination like Alaska, you will realistically want a room with a private balcony so you can take in the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your room.

When to cruise to Alaska depends on what you're interested in seeing and doing during your vacation , but summer is typically the best time to visit The Great Land. Between mid-May and mid-July, you can experience 24 hours of daylight. This period is also an optimal time for wildlife viewing; you can see bears feasting on salmon, humpback whales and orcas, furry baby moose and thousands of nesting bald eagles. Cruise lines often reserve their lowest prices for sailings early or late in the Alaska cruising season , but it's still possible to find deals in the middle of the summer.

With all of this in mind, we've listed both the lowest interior cabin fares and the average total costs for a balcony stateroom across eight popular cruise lines for weeklong itineraries in June 2024. (Note: All fares quoted are per person, double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Prices were accurate at the time of writing.)

Holland America Line

The Holland America Line Noordam in Yakutat Bay.

Holland America Line's 2024 Alaska season extends from April to September; in 2024, there are more than 60 cruise-only voyages and cruisetours (combined land and sea packages). With the exception of one 28-day journey, itineraries range from seven to 18 days.

Average starting price (per person)

This June, Holland America 's lowest-priced itinerary is the 7-Day Glacier Discovery Southbound voyage departing from Whittier, Alaska, on June 23, 2024, aboard Nieuw Amsterdam . The voyage features scenic cruising in Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve and the Inside Passage. You'll also stop in the Alaska towns of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, before disembarking in Vancouver, British Columbia . The starting price is $409 per person for an inside cabin, and veranda staterooms start at $2,114 per person (cruise-only fare).

Starting price (per person)

For this sailing, there is a $291 charge per person for taxes, fees and port expenses. Specialty dining, alcoholic drinks (and many nonalcoholic beverages, such as bottled water and specialty coffees), excursions, Wi-Fi access, gratuities and some other amenities cost extra.

Instead of paying for these extras individually, you can book Holland America's "Have It All" package. It covers one dinner at a specialty restaurant; one shore excursion (up to $100 per guest); a signature beverage package (for drinks up to $11 each) and a Wi-Fi package. For a limited time, you can also receive a $200 onboard credit per stateroom. A veranda stateroom plus the package starts at $2,569 per person.

If you purchase the "Have It All" package with the veranda stateroom, select the location of your cabin yourself (an additional $90), add in the port taxes and fees ($291) and include crew gratuities at $17 per guest, per day for non-suite staterooms ($119), the total cost is about $3,000 per person. You'll still need to budget for drinks that cost more than $11 each; bottles of wine with dinner; additional evenings of specialty dining; other shore excursions and miscellaneous expenses.

Total cost: From $3,069 per person

Princess Cruises

Princess is offering 14 unique itineraries and 68 cruisetours during the 2024 Alaska season, which runs from May to September. Itineraries range from a seven-day cruise to a 17-day escorted cruisetour.

Princess's lowest-priced cruise in June is the 7-Day Voyage of the Glaciers with Glacier Bay (Northbound) from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska , on Grand Princess. Embarking on June 5, 2024, the sailing includes scenic cruising in College Fjord and Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, a day at sea and stops in the coastal towns of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway in Alaska. Interior cabins start at $448 per person, while staterooms with a balcony start at $1,698 per person. If you select your own balcony stateroom (instead of letting the cruise line place you), the cost is $1,791 per person.

Additional fees (taxes, gratuities, etc.)

Taxes, fees and port expenses for this cruise will run you $284 per person. At the $1,791 rate, you will be in the Princess Standard fare class, which includes the ships' complimentary dining venues, entertainment and the MedallionClass experience.

You can upgrade to Princess Plus (starting at $2,211 for a balcony room) to add Wi-Fi access (one device per guest); gratuities; a beverage package (covering drinks up to $15 each); two fitness classes per cruise; two premium desserts per day; two casual dining meals and more. For additional amenities, such as Wi-Fi access for up to four devices per guest; a higher-level beverage package (for drinks up to $20 each); two specialty dining meals per guest; unlimited exercise classes and more, opt for the Princess Premier package. Balcony rooms under this category start at $2,351 per guest.

If you purchase the Princess Premier package with the balcony room, the total cost with port taxes and fees is a little more than $2,600 per person – and the pricing is nearly all-inclusive. This package may also include free cruise fare for third and fourth guests traveling in the same stateroom. You will still need to budget for shore excursions; note that over-the-top experiences like flightseeing, helicopter and dog sledding tours, and scenic rides on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railway can get pricey.

Total cost: From $2,635 per person

Norwegian Cruise Line

The Norwegian Bliss in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers one of the longest Alaska cruising seasons. In 2024, there are 44 scheduled cruise and cruisetour itineraries between April and October, ranging from seven to 18 days.

The June 3, 2024, sailing on Norwegian Jewel is Norwegian Cruise Line 's least expensive Alaska cruise that month, starting at $449 per person for an inside cabin. In comparison, a balcony cabin starts at $1,879 per person. The itinerary – Alaska: Hubbard Glacier & Skagway – embarks from Seward, Alaska, and includes scenic sea days cruising Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage, plus stops in the ports of Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan (Ward Cove) in Alaska, before disembarking in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The line's ongoing "Free At Sea" deal is included in the price and features an unlimited open bar, free specialty dining (up to $180 for the first two guests in the stateroom), a discount of $50 per excursion and complimentary Wi-Fi access (a savings of up to $200).

Open bar and specialty dining gratuities in the package are approximately $175 per person. Taxes, fees and port expenses are about $302 per person. You'll also need to include the additional $20 per person, per day service charge ($140 for the seven-day voyage).

If you book the balcony stateroom at $1,879 per person, which includes the "Free At Sea" package, and add in the taxes and port fees, dining and beverage gratuities and the daily service charge for the crew, the total cost for the cruise is around $2,500 per person. Remaining costs for shore excursions, specialty dining over $180, additional Wi-Fi usage, gratuities and other miscellaneous costs are not included in the "Free At Sea" package.

Total cost: From $2,496 per person

Royal Caribbean International's 2024 Alaska cruise season extends from April to September; there are 50 scheduled cruise-only and land-and-sea tours. Combined pre- and post-cruise tours last up to 13 nights, and cruise-only itineraries last between six to eight nights.

For the lowest fare in June, sail from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia, on a seven-night cruise aboard Radiance of the Seas on June 7, 2024. The inside cabin fare starts at $438 per person. A balcony stateroom starts at $2,877 per person (to select your own room). This voyage cruises around Alaska's Hubbard Glacier, sails the Inside Passage in Canada and stops in Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan in Alaska.

The guaranteed balcony price at $2,877 is for a smaller stateroom; you can select a larger cabin for a higher cost. Taxes, fees and port expenses for the cruise are $389 per person.

The total cost for the balcony stateroom, port taxes and fees, and gratuities ($18 per person, per day) for this Royal Caribbean cruise is about $3,400 per person. This price does not include extras like specialty dining, shore excursions, beverage packages or Wi-Fi access, so you will need to budget extra to cover those expenses.

Silversea Cruises

The all-inclusive port-to-port fare starts at $4,350 per person for a Classic Veranda Suite (the most affordable suite category with a balcony). For a room with a window instead of a balcony, book a Vista Suite starting at $3,350 per person.

Silversea's all-inclusive fares include luxurious suite accommodations, Champagne upon arrival, butler service and other perks. The pricing covers port taxes and fees; complimentary gourmet dining; all beverages, including Champagne, wine, beer and premium spirits; and gratuities. You'll also receive personalized, attentive service with a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, and at least one included shore excursion in every port. Complimentary excursions in Skagway include a ride on the White Pass Scenic Railway, a visit to a sled dog and musher's camp and the Chilkoot Trail Hike & Float Adventure. Many of the included excursions with Silversea are quite costly on other lines.

There are no additional fees with the all-inclusive fare. However, you might incur additional personal expenses if you choose to order a fancy bottle of wine with dinner or book an extreme shore excursion adventure, like flightseeing over the glaciers.

Total cost: $4,550 per person (all-inclusive)

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

There are no additional expenses on this Regent Seven Seas Cruises voyage – unless you choose a shore excursion that comes with an added cost or purchase a special bottle of wine at dinner.

Total cost: $6,599 per person (all-inclusive)

Bottom line

The low base fares for Alaska cruises on larger cruise lines may grab your attention, but as you click through to see what's included and make your booking, you'll find additional costs on nearly every page.

Before making a reservation, be sure to read the fine print and find out exactly what's included (and not included) in your cruise fare. You may find that booking an all-inclusive rate with a luxury line offers a better value – an option that you may never have considered unless you compared the total price of each cruise.

The Best Weekend Cruises From Florida

A few days beneath swaying palms can change your life.

By Robert Schrader | Published on March 18, 2024

There's only one thing better than a trip to the Sunshine State — and that's the wide variety of weekend cruises from Florida that allow you to mix a sailing with a little time in Florida itself. Whether you're a couple looking for a few days of palm-shaded romance or a family seeking a fun-filled trip during which the kids can blow off some steam, it's hard to resist the allure of setting sail from Florida's many ports to even more idyllic spots further out to sea. Best of all, cruising is a relatively all-inclusive option no matter which sailing you choose, with transportation to various ports, food, entertainment and your place to stay all part of the fare.

The options for weekend cruises from Florida are diverse, even if you only have a small number of days at your disposal. Florida has four ports — Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa and Orlando (Port Canaveral) — that you can choose from based on which is most convenient and which offers the best combination of ship and itinerary for you. Cruise to The Bahamas in just a few days or stretch your vacation to reach Mexico's storied Yucatán Peninsula or the beautiful shores of the eastern Caribbean. Read on for a variety of options to help determine your best choice.

Weekend Cruises Out Of Florida For Couples

Bahamas Cuisine Conch Fritters, Grand Bahama Island

From the sugary sands of The Bahamas to the steel drums of Jamaica and the pink flamingos of Aruba, a weekend cruise is one of the most ideal weekend vacation ideas because of the opportunities for couples to relax together. The best part? No matter your budget, there's an option perfect for you and your significant other.

Only have three nights to spare and a more limited budget? You can fly to Fort Lauderdale and cruise to The Bahamas — and still pack in a ton of excitement onboard and off. Starting in summer 2024, you can sail on the brand new Utopia of the Seas SM , the largest, most action-packed ship to sail weekend cruises from Florida , where you'll find that the onboard amenities (17 waterslides, eight pools and a soul food brunch among them) are only the beginning. At Royal Caribbean's private island resort experience, Perfect Day at CocoCay, the overwater cabanas offer peace and privacy for couples and are worth the splurge for those looking to carve out some space of their own. Settle yourself and your partner in your own paradise as you watch the sun set over the sea from your lounge chairs, and end the day by ordering dinner for two brought right to your table by the ocean.

If you've got seven nights to spare, you and your beloved can travel further afield to the western Caribbean. Cruise on Symphony of the Seas®  to San Juan, Puerto Rico where the only thing more romantic than snorkeling through the seawater hand in hand is the warmth in your partner's eyes as you clink margarita glasses. Back onboard, book a table for two at Jamie's Italian for Tuscan-inspired fare followed by an evening of cocktails and dancing.

With five nights, you can look at western Caribbean options on Independence of the Seas®  out of Miami. On one sailing, you can sign up for a shore excursion in George Town, Grand Cayman that will let you swim with the stingrays — while holding hands, of course. On yet another, you'll head to Falmouth, Jamaica where you can also snorkel — or just find a local hangout and feast on jerk chicken together to the beat of local reggae music.

Weekend Cruises Out Of Florida For Families

Dunn's River Falls, Falmouth, Jamaica

If you're a family with children looking for a weekend cruise from Florida, you'll also be spoiled with choices. For families with children of all ages who only have three nights, the best option is The Bahamas, where the three-night sailings minimize the amount of time you'll have to pull the kids out of school. What's more, the ease of relaxing at Perfect Day at CocoCay is unparalleled for beach-loving kids and parents. You can sail on Allure of the Seas® , Independence of the Seas® or Utopia of the Seas SM  from Orlando and maybe even add on a day at a theme park before heading home. Trying to save money? Allure of the Seas® and   Independence of the Seas® offer great bang for your buck.

If the flight routes work better for you, choose a sailing out of Miami on Allure of the Seas®, Freedom of the Seas® or Independence of the Seas® or out of Fort Lauderdale on  Oasis of the Seas®, Liberty of the Seas® , Rhapsody of the Seas® or Symphony of the Seas®. If you want to really indulge, Symphony of the Seas®  is home to The Ultimate Family Suite, a decadent two-story stateroom that has a hot tub on the balcony and a slide between the two floors.

Searching for long weekend vacation ideas for travel with small kids who aren't in school yet or can easily miss a day or two? You've got plenty of choices if you're sailing from Florida. The five-night western Caribbean cruise on offer from Miami on Oasis of the Seas®  is a good bet for families seeking long stretches of sand and palm trees. This sailing calls on the beaches of Falmouth, Jamaica (home to river tubing and hikes to waterfalls as well as sun-kissed shores) and Labadee (a Royal Caribbean private destination, where the beaches are perfect for young sun worshipers to build their first sandcastles). Onboard, families can hit the waterslides together — then share stories of their day over St. Louis-style spare ribs at Portside BBQ SM  or carnitas tacos at El Loco Fresh ® .

If you're traveling with older kids who have time off for holidays or can afford to be out of school for a few days, you should consider a four- or five-night cruise, potentially from Orlando on Voyager of the Seas® . Choose a sailing to the eastern Caribbean on this ship, and older kids can take advantage of hiking and horseback riding in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Alternatively, on a cruise from Tampa on Serenade of the Seas®  to the western Caribbean, Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula — with its impressive Maya ruins — might make history lovers out of even the most indifferent teens.

If you're sailing with high school or college students who are academically focused, you'll be pleased to learn that all Royal Caribbean cruise ships offer fast Wi-Fi packages, which means they can access assignments, take remote tests and even participate in class via Zoom if necessary. This allows you to indulge in one of the longer weekend cruises from Florida without your child falling behind in school.

Weekend Cruises Out Of Florida For Singles

Aerial view of Key West

One of the best parts about being a solo traveler is flexibility. For example, if search for "last-minute vacation deals this weekend," chances are good that you'll be able to take advantage of any great rates that fit your personal schedule, without having to factor other people in. Living in the era of remote work (and fast onboard Wi-Fi) increases your freedom: You can often stretch a "weekend" to four or even five days, unlocking a larger number of sailing options, whether you cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa or Orlando. For travelers who like to meet new people, there's always that option on a cruise. One tip to remember: Whatever ship you choose, ask the maître d' in the main dining room on the first day to seat you with other solo travelers to help you make connections straightaway.

With that in mind, why not go the more indulgent route and treat yourself to a five-night sailing? Serenade of the Seas®  sails from Tampa to Cozumel and Costa Maya, both of which are in Mexico.

On six-night sailings on Adventure of the Seas®  out of Orlando, you can visit Puerto Plata, which you can think of as your gateway to the merengue, beans and rice and golden strands of sand in the Dominican Republic.

And, on five-night western Caribbean cruises out of Tampa on Radiance of the Seas® , Mexico will be a highlight. While some solo travelers stay in Cozumel — snorkeling, scuba diving or seeking out tacos and piña coladas — others head farther afield to see the awe-inspiring ruins of Chichén Itzá or the decadently relaxing eco-chic spas of Tulum, for example. Onboard, you can unwind after dinner in the English-style pub or the Champagne bar, depending on your preference. Whatever you choose to do, it's a joy to base the decision entirely on your own interests when you set sail as a solo traveler.

Qualified professionals can turn to us for all their questions about living and working in our multifaceted region. Regional companies benefit from our knowledge and experience in recruiting and integrating international professionals.

Feel free to contact us at any time with your questions and suggestions!

The Welcome Center

The Welcome Centre Ulm/Oberschwaben has been located at the self-governing organisation Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Ulm since 1 April 2014. The region of IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) Ulm covers the Alb-Donau district, Biberach and the district of Ulm.

The central task of the Welcome Center is to support companies in finding and retaining skilled workers. Thus, the Welcome Center is one part of the IHK Ulm’s efforts in various spheres of activity to mitigate the progressive shortage of skilled professionals in the region. Since it was founded in 2014, the Welcome Center Ulm/Oberschwaben has cooperated closely with its project partners and regional networks such as the Fachkräftebündnis Ulm/Oberschwaben (Professionals Alliance) in the working group Internationale Fachkräfte (International Specialists), and with the employment agency and universities.

The Welcome Center Ulm/Oberschwaben is one of a total of 10 Welcome Centers in Baden-Württemberg , which are financed partly by the respective funding agencies and partly by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing.

Tasks of the Welcome Center

  • To advise small and medium-sized companies in the region on how to attract and retain professionals from abroad
  • To provide initial advice to international professionals and their families on working and living in our region
  • To offer guidance on dealing with authorities and institutions

Target groups for our work

  • Small and medium-sized companies in our region
  • International professionals and their families
  • Foreign students at the universities in our region

We are ambassadors for our region and act as guides for foreign professionals. We aim to raise awareness in our region and among our companies of the topics of international skilled staff and how to create a welcoming environment for them, and to support the region and companies in taking corresponding steps.

Best Practice examples

Under the slogan #welcometoyourjob, we publish video clips about success stories of international professionals who have found their feet in the region, both professionally and privately. The professionals talk about their experiences and how they came to the companies in Ulm. The Welcome Center Ulm/Oberschwaben accompanied and supported them.
