Recommended list of travel agencies and tour operators in uganda - entebbe & kampala.

  • African Gorilla Trekking

  • Bwindi Uganda Gorilla Safaris

Top 10 tour operators in Uganda (Entebbe, Kampala & Jinja) – Uganda tour operators play a very vital role in the success of your holiday. You have to choose a company that has a good reputation; one that you can confide in for a lifetime holiday.

These companies do exist and they are quite many; leave alone the big ones. The Uganda safari company you chose matters a lot.

I personally have always used average companies for my trips because of various reasons. When I say average I consider a lot of things and among these are the years of operation.

A company that has been existent for 2 or 3 years can still organize a nice Ugandan tour for you at very good prices. I will be discussing some of these reasons later on in the article. For now, just know I’ve used a couple of Uganda tour operators in Kampala and Entebbe.

Okay, lets look at some of the tours and travel companies in Uganda that I recommend you book your Uganda safaris and tours with. I have personally traveled with most of these companies before and I confirm their pricing is competitive and comes with exceptional service.

You can jump straight to see my recommended Uganda tour operators list by clicking here .

Throughout the years, I have seen tours and safari companies in Uganda transform to being more specific in what they offer. Some of the above tour companies in Uganda are general purpose and have no specialty.

They simply offer all kinds of safaris. If you are booking only a gorilla tour, I would advise considering my recommended gorilla trekking companies since they specialize more in offering gorilla trips. These Uganda gorilla tour operators are further subdivided into budget gorilla trekking operators and luxury gorilla trekking operators . You can read more about gorilla trekking in Uganda here.

If your sole interest is chimpanzee trekking, You might have to look at these chimpanzee trekking companies . The whole idea is choosing Uganda safari operators that have a specialty as a way of getting good service for your primary interest.

We also have a list of operators in Rwanda , Congo , Kenya , Tanzania , and Zanzibar in case you are considering visiting these destinations as well. If you wish to combine multiple East African countries, these East African travel agents can be of help.

Now let’s look at some of the factors that you must consider when choosing the best tour and travel companies in Uganda.

The very first point I will start with is why you should consider average companies more irrespective of their years of operation or number of reviews; especially if you are booking online. This secret will help you book very comfortable safaris at affordable prices and get exactly what you paid for.

Forget about the industry giants. They are so damn expensive and won’t deliver exceptional service for low budget trips. Average and small companies are the way to go nowadays. I explain this below.

The employees of the big have gone small

Surprisingly, most employees who work for the best Uganda tour operators do not stay for so many years. They somehow end up registering their own companies and penetrating the industry to do the same business.

These are the same employees behind the success of particular Uganda tour operators but you will hardly notice this since it’s hard for you to find out.

Almost all of them have great experience and usually maintain the same working traits from their previous employees. They are likely to use the same accommodation facilities, same tour guides (most tour guides in Uganda are freelancers), and plan their trips in the same way at a lower price.

Booking through such operators will guarantee you a couple of things; and among these are a comfortable safari, professionalism, competitive pricing, and good service among the rest.

The only problem is finding who you should trust and who you shouldn’t. Not all new tour companies in Uganda are owned by people who have been in the industry for a long time. Some are actually owned by people who are just joining the industry.

Besides, such Uganda safari tour operators usually begin from scratch and won’t have so many reviews. So it can really be hard to choose a trustworthy company online without a basis.

This partly explains why so many clients end up going by referrals from previous travelers or booking through an experienced company to guarantee their holiday.

Doing a search online can be hectic and risky. There are quite a number of fraudulent websites that are actually owned by fraudulent people claiming to be tour operators.

You do not always have to book with the top tour operators in Uganda. I will show you how you can differentiate genuine Uganda tours and travel company that has more knowledge about tourism from one that doesn’t later on in the article.

You will be able to choose a good company for your upcoming trip 🙂

Responsiveness

What’s more annoying than sending an inquiry to a Ugandan tour company and you have to wait for hours or days to get a response from them? I believe good customer service starts with responsiveness.

A good Uganda safari company should be able to respond to your emails on time irrespective of what time of the day you reach out to them.

Tourism is a service business that binds so many people from different time zones in the world. A client who only gets free at a particular time could reach out to a company outside their hours of operation and I believe such clients also deserve to get a response in the shortest time possible.

Tourism is a 24/7 business I should say! Am actually glad some tour operators in Uganda have gone as far as offering services and responding to clients outside their hours of operation.

You should always give more priority to the quickest and best responsive companies irrespective of their pricing. Such tour companies are most likely to offer you good service even when on the trip.

You can confide in them for urgent feedback whenever you need any clarifications, modifications, information, or rather when you are making any new requests regarding your trips.

So when you reach out to about 5 companies for a quote (Recommended. Do not exceed this number), as you go on to compare the quotations and pricing, consider the most responsive tour operators.

Of course there a couple more factors that you have to consider as well. You shouldn’t solely consider responsiveness. It should just be among the criteria you use to single out a good operator but definitely deserves priority.

Trips that are booked with highly responsive tour operators usually result in wonderful experiences.

You are certain of asking hundreds of questions and getting immediate feedback. Your endless questions set a precedent for a good trip! So go ahead and let them all out without hesitation.

However, there are companies that do not want to be nagged by a lot of questions, and trust me, you will notice them. They will either stop responding to you or their average response time will keep getting much longer.

On the other hand, there is always that one Uganda safari company that will give you real-time answers to your questions.

Does the Uganda travel operator make you feel secure from the get-go?

Does the Uganda travel operator make you feel secure from the get go

A few emails exchanged between you and specific tour operators for Uganda should make you feel safe, get more knowledge, and probably gain more confidence in the company.

If an operator’s response does exactly that, then you have to give them strong consideration. Some tour companies will make you feel confident from the get-go.

They will send you well-tailored itineraries with most of the information needed by you to get a clear understanding of the trip you are bound to book.

Among these include the schedule, activities with time estimates, price of the package, inclusions, exclusions plus vital information about country requirements and laws among others. It actually gets better when their response time turns out to be among the best.

You should cross out Uganda travel operators that do exactly the opposite of this. This partly explains their inexperience or inability to match the standard requirements of client requests. Such tour operators are likely to listen less to your requests in case of any emergencies on your Uganda safaris.

I believe a good company should make clients believe more in their services right from the first or worse third email. They should feel secure to book with the company too and one of the key factors that impacts this is responsiveness.

The bad with this is some clients usually get stuck in the loop of communicating with multiple operators. Let’s say you have sent out inquiries to ten operators, you should be able to narrow down your list to at least 3 companies the next time you reply.

Your next reply after this should leave you with a final choice of an operator that you will communicate with frequently as you plan your package better.

This gives you a platform to ask all the questions you want and emphasize changes to a single package that you are going to book. If you get stuck between multiple operators, it will be hard for you to make a final decision.

In fact, I would advise reaching out to only 3 tour operators at the start of the planning process. This makes it easy to narrow down your list!

Pricing Matters

Of all factors, pricing matters most. You are not going to spend what you cannot afford or spend a lot for a less adventurous package. I will let you know how you can determine a standard price of a package and confirm its worth. You will also be able to notice tour packages that are cheaper than the standard amount and flag them.

Most scammers offer unbelievable deals on pricing, which grabs a lot of attention from tourists. A good tour package should not be too cheap, too expensive but rather worth its price.

So many factors determine the pricing of itineraries and among these include the duration of the trip, number of persons, level of accommodation, type of car used for transportation, number of activities in the package, and distance between destinations among other factors.

One mistake I have seen clients make is prioritizing the pricing of packages. I will explain why this is bad!

Assuming three Uganda tours and travel companies offer you a 10 days safari package with the same level of accommodation but with high differences in pricing, you do not always have to go with the cheapest but rather a package with more activities.

Clients travel for long hours to visit and explore Uganda. When you are here, try to maximize your time. It will be more costly for you to do a few activities, fall in the love with the country’s tourism, and organize for another visit to patch up for the foregone adventures.

I have seen clients come to Uganda, visit a few places then come back the following year for an extensive safari holiday. This is expensive unless considered a preference. Why not visit all the places at once?

Okay, let’s get back to the point now. A tour package may have the same number of days, same level of accommodation (assuming its luxury, mid-range, or budget) but turn out to be $800 more expensive than the rest.

The best thing to do is to read the day by day program and confirm whether the package has more activities than the rest. If the activities are less then it’s not worth it but if they are more then that could be a masterpiece.

Always book tour packages that have more activities irrespective of their price. Trust me, it hurts to spend more time driving than carrying out actual activities.

What travel activities are being offered?

Uganda apparently has an abundance of 10 national parks . These parks include Murchison Falls National Park , Kibale Forest National Park , Queen Elizabeth National Park , Bwindi Impenetrable National Park , Lake Mburo National Park , Kidepo Valley National Park , Semuliki Valley National Park , Rwenzori Mountains National Park , Mgahinga Gorilla National Park , and Mount Elgon National Park . You can see a detailed list of the parks here .

Each of these national parks has activities to offer. Some are similar whereas some are distinct. The parks are located in various regions of the country and depending on the number of days you have available for your trip, visiting parks that are much closer to each other might be of great interest and convenience.

Besides, some national parks are more popular and fun to visit than the rest. I would advise concentrating on these particular Ugandan national parks. You’d rather go to a park that offers many nice activities than focusing on the ones that offer minimal.

Most of the best parks to visit are in western-Uganda and these include; Murchison Falls NP, Kibale Forest NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, Bwindi Impenetrable NP, and Lake Mburo NP.

Located north of the country, the isolated Kidepo Valley NP is a Ugandan cliche. It’s one of the best wildernesses you can visit for game viewing safaris. The reason why this park is less visited is sole because of its location.

If you aren’t taking a flight, a road drive can be hectic. You need about 2 days of travel to reach the park conveniently with minimal fatigue.

Uganda is a prime gorilla trekking destination . I would consider it the best amongst the other two destinations because of a number of factors ranging from; accounting for over half the population of the last remaining mountain gorillas, having four different sectors to trek from, the affordability of gorilla permits, number of lodges in the parks among many more reasons.

I would not advise visiting Uganda for gorillas only. The tourism industry is diverse enough to engage you for several weeks. A good tour operator will offer you a package that has the best activities you can maximize within the number of days you have available for your safari.

Always side with an activity-packed package. The rest and relaxation can always come later 🙂

Routing is everything

tour operator uganda

One mistake clients make is book travel packages without checking the routing and the driving time between destinations.

Irrespective of the number of days you have, you should be keen on checking the travel time between destinations, activities offered, and how they will affect your mobility.

A poorly planned tour package can easily mess up your holiday. You need more time to carry out activities and less time traveling else you will end up doing the opposite; traveling more than engaging in activities, which isn’t fun at all.

This is partly why I advise clients to consider packages that include estimates of travel time between destinations.

Another common problem is adding destinations that are so far away to one package. A good example of this is visiting Kidepo Valley National Park or Murchison Falls National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the same trip.

Much as this is doable, you will have to spend about 6 hours traveling to Murchison Falls and another six hours traveling back to Kampala before you can take on a 9 hours journey to Bwindi and another back to Kampala.

A tour and travel package planned this way has more hours of traveling, despite having activities in between. It will definitely get clients fatigued; which I do not recommend. The best way to go about this is using domestic flights. It might seem expensive but trust me, it is more convenient.

The other option to this would be combining the gorillas in Bwindi with a park that offers similar activities. For this case, Queen Elizabeth National Park would be perfect.

Unfortunately, not so many clients are willing to understand this. A Uganda tour operator can decide to go as far as advising you to book flights instead of road transfer but the majority of clients will not understand this.

They will always choose the cheapest option over the rest irrespective of how convenient the service is. Some travel companies really don’t mind about this. So long as they can pocket their service fee, the rest is left to you.

I do not support booking poorly planned packages. If you come across a company that takes time to advise you on how you can make your safari better in terms of routing, you should prioritize them because as much as they want to make money off your trip, they are mindful about the experience you are bound for too.

Besides, we live in an era of Google Maps. You can always confirm your routing online and ask for modifications where you see a lot of driving time. However, do not fully rely on Google Maps, roads here are bad!

A journey of 9 hours online might turn out to be 15 hours because of the poor road condition.

Nevertheless, the best tour operators in Uganda will tailor well-routed itineraries.

What do TripAdvisor reviews & Social Media say about the tour operator?

Eddy MGA

TripAdvisor has turned out to be the biggest review platform in the world. There are several other review platforms on the web but I have chosen TripAdvisor because it turns out to be the most used in the Uganda Tourism Industry.

It is a great place to source reviews about travel companies. The Uganda tour operators’ TripAdvisor page should give you a good list or perhaps you could choose to do an online search and check for reviews on TripAdvisor. Either way works!

On the other end, social media has become vital too. Some social networking sites like Facebook allow local businesses to collect reviews from their clients.

The follower base, average response time, and regular updates are vital factors clients should consider too. They partly help you know which companies are genuine and serious about their businesses.

Does having reviews matter? How many reviews do Uganda tours and travel companies need for a client to trust them? How many social media followers do they need?

What happens when the company has no review? What if some reviews are negative but the majority are positive? I will be answering all the questions below.

Well, as a matter of fact; most clients screw up here! They either do not bother to check for a company’s reviews on TripAdvisor or they ignore companies with fewer reviews.

The fact is reviews matter but you should also consider the fact that every business starts from somewhere. Even the companies with over 200 reviews started with no review.

So what happens when a company has no review at all but you like their package? For this case, I would advise requesting the certificate of incorporation, trading license, and particulars of the directors.

So how many reviews do Uganda tours and travel companies need for a client to trust them? A few reviews should be enough to generate some trust. However, you should be cautious and endeavor to contact the reviewers for feedback.

If possible, go ahead and request their phone numbers and schedule a call. Some companies forge their first reviews to get clients. It’s up to you to follow up and confirm the authenticity of the reviews.

For cases where a company has more than ten reviews? You can go ahead and trust them. This actually brings us to our very first point; some of the employees of the big have gone small.

Landing on a company that has fewer reviews but is offering the best package is no excuse for you to cross them out. Simply confirm the authenticity of their reviews and give them a chance. They could provide better service than the highest-reviewed tour operator on your list.

What if some reviews are negative but the majority are positive? One problem with review platforms like TripAdvisor is they do not give much consideration to the tour operator.

Any client can write all bad about a company and he retains the privilege to delete the review or leave it online even when they were on the wrong. TripAdvisor will not come to the rescue of a company either.

So if a few reviews are bad and you are satisfied with the response from the tour operator, go ahead and book with them. Do not judge a company by a few bad reviews yet the majority are rated excellent.

Accommodation offered

Kyaninga Lodge

Where you sleep matters a lot when it comes to safaris. A bad selection of lodges can ruin your trip. Some clients claim they are flexible and ask tour operators to book them in budget or shoestring lodges but end up regretting their decision.

Nothing is worse than carrying out a tiresome activity and you return to a hectic lodge.

Some lodges in national parks have very poor service. I have seen some clients get booked into lodges that use generators to generate electricity but end up running out of fuel in the night; only to leave clients dining in darkness.

Some lodges do not care about renovation or replacing damaged properties. Others have broken sinks, water issues, or even have no water heaters in their bathrooms.

Do not be a client that claims they are flexible enough to sleep in the cheapest lodges. Uganda is an inexpensive destination and lodges here are not so expensive. You can actually get very affordable mid-range lodges for your trip.

All you have to do is request the tour operator to choose the best accommodation facilities that fall within your budget and leave the rest to them.

The accommodation also goes hand in hand with transportation. A comfortable car with comfortable accommodation should get you relaxed enough to enjoy your trip. Comfort is very key and I strongly emphasize it. You should never take it for granted else you will have regrets with little to do.

One thing about accommodation that I want to address is clients that fall for photographs on websites of accommodation facilities. Not all these photographs portray what is on the ground.

Some of these lodges go as far as hiring professional photographers to take the best shots of the lodge and edit the photographs to create an appealing look. As a person on the ground, I have seen lodges that look so different in real life but have some of the best photos online.

This mainly applies to luxury lodges and a few mid-range lodges. Do not give much consideration to photos you see online but rather read the respective reviews of all the lodges included in your package.

From here you should be able to make a good choice. If you are not comfortable with a lodge included in your package, go ahead and ask the tour operator’s consultant to change it. If he objects to it for some reason, you should allow them to choose what is right for you.

Good tour operators stick to their proposal

Uganda Safari Van

No one would offer a masterpiece and expect less from it. Bargaining too much for a price reduction is not advisable. If a tour operator has stuck to his price and is not willing to make a price-reduction, this does not mean you should book with another tour operator.

If their package is good, does not fall very far away from the average price range and you like it, go ahead and book it. Do not over bargain for it or request changes to bring the price down.

Some tours and travel companies in Uganda are so desperate that they will offer a tour at a giveaway price. The price could further reduce with more bargain.

Whatever adjustments you request to bring the price down, they will welcome it or even suggest a cheaper option. Some do this because they hope to invest your money somewhere else and repay when you arrive.

The bad with this is these operators end up selling packages at losses and find it hard to facilitate your trip when your travel time comes.

Some will end up making last-minute changes to your package especially on accommodation without your notice and consent. You will just get a surprise when on the trip and won’t get any satisfactory reasons for the alterations.

Would you really want to go through this especially knowing you can avoid it?

I believe tour companies have to make enough profit from a tour so that they do not find it hard to facilitate your trip when the time comes. The profit should not be abnormal though.

From the different quotations received from operators, you should be able to judge the price range of a safari.

So if you want a well-planned, comfortable, and nice safari, avoid pushing tour companies to the wall in a bid to get huge discounts from them.

This might be of great benefit to you but trust me, not all exceptionally good deals are good. Some come with consequences. You can try and avoid this by trusting a few well-proposed packages.

Just like everyone else! If you truly trust what you are offering and think it is the best of what you could offer, you will be more confident with your charge and won’t regret losing a client over it since you confide in making sales out of it. The same applies to tourism.

Mode of Payments supported by the Uganda safari company

The most common modes of payment in the Uganda Tourism Industry are bank transfer, credit card payments through gateways like Pesapal, and to a very lesser extent, Paypal. The most common and affordable means to pay for your safari is through wire transfer.

The money usually takes 2 – 5 days to reach the company through an intermediary bank.

Please be advised to add a small transfer charge on top of the deposit. Most clients send the exact amount after their banks assuring them that the receiver’s bank will not receive less. This gets wrong in most cases.

Most banks here use intermediary banks to receive money. These intermediary banks usually take a small cut for their services. So to avoid sending less money, add the receiver’s transfer charge on top of the deposit and notify them about it.

The other common way of paying for your safari is by using credit card payments. The country apparently has two common card gateways and these include Pesapal and XpressPay. Both these gateways accept VISA, MASTERCARD & AMEX.

Their surcharge lies between 3.5% to 5% of the total deposit which could be a lot of money if the deposit is high.

The advantage of this is the convenience it provides and also security since you have an option of requesting a chargeback in case you sense something not right.

These companies are very reliable and will help you process your card payments but their charge gets higher depending on the amount. If you are sending over $10,000, you will be charged for more than what you would have spent initiating a bank transfer/wire transfer.

I would best advise using them for transactions less than $10,000 unless you are not bothered by the charge.

The last point brings us to a common question. Is Paypal supported here in Uganda? The answer to this is a NO and because of this, very few tours and travel operators in Uganda support this mode of payment.

The ones that do are owned by foreigners who use their international Paypal accounts to receive funds. Ugandan Paypal accounts do not receive money. They are only limited to making transactions and purchases online.

Avoid making payments using Cryptocurrency platforms, Skrill, PerfectMoney, or any other platform not mentioned here. No Ugandan tour operator uses these platforms and if any requests you to do so, that should raise your eyebrow right away.

Only book with local tour operators

Uganda local tour operators

Booking with locally-based tour operators will save you money. Most international travel agencies are intermediaries. Booking through them means dealing with two different companies; the one you have booked with and the locally-based travel operator that is going to run your safari.

Both these companies have to make profits off your trip hence, you will end up paying more than what you would have paid a local tour operator.

Most foreign travel agencies have ground handling agents here in Uganda that they use for running trips. Their packages are usually pricier but come with a great guarantee since these companies have been in operation for a long time and have a big brand name to protect.

Booking through them usually results in perfectly organized expensive trips. These agents are usually referred to as luxury tour operators in Uganda.

A client who goes online and searches for local tour operators and lists them down, contacts them and uses the criteria in this article to choose an appropriate company ends up saving a lot of money.

This has to be done with great caution though because it becomes hard sometimes to differentiate fake tour operators from genuine ones.

This is partly why I came up with this 5000 piece. Not only to recommend the best tour operators for Uganda that I have traveled with or closely monitored for some time and visited but to also give you criteria you can use to choose the best tours and travel companies for your next safari in Uganda.

You might decide to leave out the above-recommended list of tour operators in Uganda and do a search online. The choice is all yours 🙂

If you further need information about any travel and tour companies in Kampala or rather tour and travel companies in Entebbe, you can contact me. I will be able to confirm to you whether the company is worth it or not.

Wrapping up everything

The best Uganda safari operators are not hard to get online. Nowadays the selection process has become much simpler compared to the days when there were very few unpopular review platforms, no social media sites, less internet coverage, and very few operators online.

You can actually get online and select out the best Uganda safari companies and confirm your safari in just a few minutes.

Like mentioned earlier, I only list Uganda tours and travel companies that I have traveled with before or closely monitored for some time. I also go ahead and visit their offices to ensure they are not briefcase companies.

All these companies listed above are professional and will deliver good service to you. I wish you the very best on your next safari to Uganda and remember, just in case you need any information regarding your next visit to Uganda, you can always contact me via email and I should be able to avail answers to you within the shortest time possible.

Choosing The Best Tour Operator To Plan a Perfect Uganda Safari Vacation

How to Find the Perfect Tour Operator or safari company in Uganda

  • Travel Guides

Follow these guidelines to find the best tour company to help you plan and manage a perfect safari vacation in Uganda.

Uganda is truly a gem of a country, with its breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a rich cultural heritage. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a wildlife lover, or just seeking an adventure, Uganda has something for everyone. However, to make the most of your safari trip to this remarkable country, it is crucial to find a reliable and experienced tour operator. In this guide, we will take you through the steps to find the best tour operator in Uganda. With their help, you can plan your adventure trip with ease, ensuring that your visit is both memorable and stress-free.

Define Your Travel Goals and Interests

Before you search for a tour operator in Uganda, it’s crucial to define your travel goals and interests and match them with a knowledgeable tour company. Consider what type of experiences you’re looking for:

  • Safari and wildlife viewing
  • Gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking
  • Cultural immersion and local experiences
  • Adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and hiking
  • Birdwatching and nature exploration

Knowing your preferences will help you narrow down your options when selecting a tour operator that specializes in your chosen activities.

Do Your Research

Once you have a clear idea of your travel goals, it’s time to start researching potential tour operators. Here’s how you can go about it:

a.   Online Searches:  Begin your search by using search engines and travel forums to find tour operators based in Uganda. Read reviews, check their websites, and make a list of potential candidates.

b.   Recommendations:  Seek recommendations from friends, family, or fellow travelers who have visited Uganda. Personal referrals can provide valuable insights and trustworthy information.

c.  Travel Agencies:  Visit local travel agencies specializing in African travel, like Africa-Reps in the UK and Europe. They often have partnerships with reliable tour operators and can help you make informed decisions.

Check for Accreditation and Licensing

Ensure that the tour operator you’re considering is accredited and licensed to operate in Uganda. The  Uganda Tourism Board   (UTB)  is responsible for licensing tour operators and ensuring they meet certain standards. A valid license indicates that the operator adheres to safety, ethical, and environmental guidelines.

Verify details of your tour operator and lodge at these licensing board’s links:

  • Verify Uganda Tour Operators : https://utb.go.ug/tour-operators
  • Verify Hotel, Camp or Lodge : https://utb.go.ug/accommodation-facilities

Evaluate Experience and Expertise

Experience matters when it comes to choosing a tour operator. Look for companies that have been operating for several years with a proven track record of delivering high-quality services. Experienced operators are more likely to handle unexpected situations effectively and provide a seamless travel experience.

Read Reviews and Testimonials

Reading reviews and testimonials from previous travelers is an excellent way to gauge the quality of a tour operator’s services. Look for reviews on popular travel websites, social media platforms, and forums dedicated to Uganda travel. Pay attention to both positive and negative feedback to get a well-rounded understanding of the operator’s performance.

Read our customers’ unbiased reviews at TripAdvisor.

Contact the Tour Operators

Once you’ve narrowed down your list to a few potential tour operators, reach out to them directly. Ask questions about their itineraries, accommodations, transportation, and any specific requests or concerns you might have. Usually, most operators have a contact form on their websites that requires you to enter all the above values to help them get you an accurate quote. Ensure you answer the form entries. The tour company’s responsiveness and clarity of communication can be a good indicator of their professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction.

Compare Prices and Inclusions

While cost should not be the sole determining factor, it’s essential to compare the prices and inclusions offered by different tour operators. Be wary of operators that significantly undercut the market price, as this may indicate subpar services or hidden costs. A transparent breakdown of what’s included in the tour package will help you make an informed decision.

Check for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Practices

Responsible and sustainable tourism practices are vital for preserving Uganda’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Inquire about the tour operator’s commitment to sustainability, wildlife conservation, and support for local communities. Operators who engage in eco-friendly initiatives and ethical tourism are more likely to contribute positively to Uganda’s tourism industry.

Verify Safety Measures

Safety should be a top priority when choosing a tour operator in Uganda. Ensure that the company follows safety protocols and has well-trained guides. Ask about their emergency response plans and the measures they take to ensure the well-being of their guests during the trip.

Request References

Don’t hesitate to request references from past clients. Speaking directly with travelers who have previously used the tour operator’s services can provide valuable insights and help you make a confident decision.

Check for Flexibility

Look for tour operators willing to customize their itineraries to meet your specific needs and interests. A flexible operator like  Nkuringo Safaris  can help you create a personalized and unforgettable experience.

Consider Group Size

The size of the tour group can greatly impact your travel experience. Determine whether you prefer a small, intimate group or are comfortable with larger group tours. Some tour operators specialize in small-group adventures and private safaris, providing a more personalized experience.

So, what’s it going to be?

Planning a safari vacation in Uganda can be an exciting experience, but finding the right tour operator to guide you is crucial to ensure a memorable and enjoyable trip. To make an informed decision, you need to define your travel goals, conduct thorough research, check for accreditation, and evaluate experience and expertise. Additionally, reading reviews, comparing prices and inclusions, and prioritizing responsible tourism practices can help you narrow down your options. Nkuringo Safaris Limited ticks all the boxes with great recommendations, so start considering their consultants by checking out their About Us page . Ultimately, choosing the best safari operator can make all the difference in experiencing the beauty, culture, and wildlife of Uganda while creating lasting memories.

The Top Tour Operators in Uganda

If you’re heading to East Africa on a safari, you’re going to want to ensure everything from transfers to game drives run smoothly – despite the unsurfaced roads of the region’s national parks. That’s why you should always seek out the top tour companies in Uganda. This can be easier said than done if you don’t know exactly what to look for, which is why we’ve created this short unbiased guide, showing what to look for in a Uganda tour operator.

Intimate On the Ground Knowledge

african-safari-packing-list

The best tour companies in Uganda are, like Home to Africa , exactly that – in Uganda. There is no better starting point than local on the ground knowledge. It’s only by being based in the region that agents are able to understand what potential problems can occur before they even become problems!

In-country agents also have a much better awareness of issues that may affect your safari, such as law changes or unusually heavy rains, which could have a negative impact on your trip. By being where it’s happening, the best tour and travel agents in Uganda are able to respond much more quickly and sort such issues straight away. Often without you even realizing a problem ever existed.

Good Tour Companies in Uganda Will Save You Time and Money

Beyond their unrivaled local knowledge, another excellent reason to seek out the top tour companies in Uganda is the fact using them will almost always save you both time and money.

Provide them with the basics of what you’re looking for from your trip, whether that’s an exploration of Queen Elizabeth National Park or the desire to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, and they’ll do all the hard work for you. No need to surf the internet for hours on end looking for the best deals. And no need to worry about arranging everything to fit each other with the risk you mess up.

What’s more, the top tour operators in Uganda have close relationships with the lodges and other suppliers. This means they have access to deals that simply aren’t available to the general public, and can sometimes even get you a better safari, by arranging upgrades or the top guides, without it costing you a single penny more.

Guidance on the Best Time to Visit Uganda

It’s possible to head out on a safari at any time of year. However, travelers can have a very different experience depending on exactly when you visit. Some times of year are best for catching sight of the largest number and diversity of wildlife species. But this is not necessarily the ideal time for those most interested in the region’s birdlife, or photographers looking for perfect blue skies.

The easiest way of discovering the best time to go on an African safari for you and your interests is by taking advantage of the presence of the years of experience gained by tour operators. Likewise, if you’re looking to do something a little different and away from the usual experiences on a Uganda safari , these tour and travel companies in Uganda remain the place to head.

Confidence From the First Moment

Arguably though, the most important reason for using a well-known and highly-recommended tour company for your Uganda safari is the confidence you’ll have from doing so.

We now know more than ever that travel plans can be seriously disrupted. You don’t need to look far to find stories of people having to fight airlines and hotels booked directly to receive refunds they believe they rightly deserve.

Use the services of a tour company such as Home to Africa, and as well as the savings and on the ground knowledge, you as a traveler also get a better level of protection. That’s because we are regulated by bodies including the Uganda Tourism Board, ensuring specific standards of service are met throughout.

Support For Local Communities

Tour operators based in their country of operation also understand the importance of community engagement and giving back. The safari industry provides an important source of income for communities right across the region, helping those who would otherwise struggle.

Very much a part of the community, Home to Africa directs 10% of your booking costs to our charity Global ICT Care, which gives women and children free nutrition and education to make a real difference to their lives. Going on vacation has never been so positive!

Uganda Safar Tours You Just Can’t Get Anywhere Else

Imagine the situation. You see a tour that you fall in love with and know will be absolutely perfect for you and your family. It could be a two center trip taking in Murchison Falls National Park and gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, or trips to the islands of Lake Victoria. But even after hours of online research you find it impossible to replicate.

Or you’ve lined up your hotels, guides and safari experiences only to find it impossible to book transfers by light aircraft for your days of travel, potentially ruining the entire trip. The easiest way to solve these problems is by using a reputable tour operator.

Why? Because tour operators like us do more than go to the nearest comparison sites to arrange your safaris. We’ve got our very own booking systems, which give us access to an entire world of accommodation options, flights, and excursions you simply won’t find anywhere else.

Tour operators are also particularly important for those looking to trek through the jungles of Uganda’s south to encounter the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. That’s because to do so requires a special permit – of which less than 100 are issued each day.

Tour Operators in Uganda – A Must for Your Safari

Take all the stress and worry out of booking a Uganda safari by using a trustworthy tour operator or travel company. Their experienced staff will do all the hard work for you, while at the same time ensuring the vacation you’re booking will meet your expectations!

Tour Operators in Uganda

Looking for information about Tour Operators in Uganda? Well read on. Uganda is a small and landlocked country but still one of the best countries to go to for a safari in Africa. Uganda is blessed with incredible biodiversity, good weather, friendly people and amazing wildlife. Uganda has the largest population of mountain gorillas and is also the best country to track chimpanzees in Africa.

The main activities while on a safari in Uganda include gorilla trekking, visiting the equator crossing, general wildlife viewing (including all the big 5), chimpanzee trekking, golden monkey tracking, bird watching, visiting the source of the river Nile, whitewater rafting, launch/boat cruises, nature walks, cultural/Community tour , city tours, mountain hiking and observing amazing waterfalls just to mention a few.

List of tour companies in Uganda

Even if you are planning on making your own bookings, tour operators can still be helpful. If you plan on going for a self-drive or have booked your own hotels, the tour operator can help you get gorilla permits or hire you one of their cars.

Note: Using the services of a tour operator is more expensive but the chances of making a mistake as a result of your limited knowledge of the country are limited. With a tour company managing your trip, you don’t have to worry about hidden expenses like park fees. You don’t need to be stressed with making numerous bookings in a country you are not familiar with. Your only task is to show up. So which are the best tour operators in Uganda?

Things to Consider when choosing a tour operator in Uganda

After listing the tour operators in Uganda, it is time to discuss the main factors to consider choosing your favorite: –

Best tour operators in Uganda

Company Website: The tour operator in Uganda must have a functioning website with complete information about their services and their location. The company must state its motivation for doing business clearly and have a link to their Terms/Conditions of service.

Social Media: Apart from an official website, a good tour company in Uganda should have a social media page to reach out to clients. Social media pages like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest contain current information that might not be found in the official website. It may also be the place to look out for feedback from past clients.

Ownership: The choice between using a local tour company in Uganda and an international brand is up to the traveler. Whereas international tour companies are thought to guarantee quality, they are also more expensive. In fact, most of the international tour companies will still contact a local tour operator to organize their tours. Choosing a local tour operator in Uganda is one way of supporting the local people and empowering them. Moreover, most of the local tour operators also offer high quality services but at a lower cost. The decision is up to you.

Tour operators in Uganda

Communication with the Company: How frequent is the communication with the company? A good tour company in Uganda will answer your first inquiry as soon as possible. The company should not only respond in a timely manner but with correct information. If a company responds to your emails after several days, it may mean that they are not serious in what they do. The company should be prompt in responding to your queries even after making payments.

Local Tour Associations: Many of the good tour operators in Uganda are members of some kind of association. Membership to these organizations makes it easy to raise complaints in case you are dissatisfied with a service. However, remember that membership to these organizations do not guarantee quality services. There are also companies who choose not to register with these organizations because of internal politics and management. International Travel companies may also not be party to these Tour operator organizations.

Accommodation facilities offered: Your tour operator should be able to offer you the best accommodation facilities in each category. By this we mean the best budget hotels if you are traveling on budget. The same standards should be applied to mid-range and Luxury travelers. Before booking with the tour operator, request for links to the hotels you would be using and check out their websites or what other travelers say about them.

List of tour operators in Uganda

The Itinerary: A good tour company in Uganda will propose or recommend the perfect itinerary based on your interests and the number of days set aside for the tour. If you are not familiar with all the tourist attractions in Uganda , see what other tour operators are offering to know if there are other things you might be interested in. If you are not sure of what to do in Uganda, the tour operator must work with you to come up with activities that you like. The tour operator can only recommend activities and leave you to make the final decision on what to do.

Cultural Aspects: Before choosing the tour company to use for your safari, ensure that the itinerary also includes cultural encounters. Uganda is an amazing country with over 40 tribes. You don’t want to show up just to see the wildlife because there is so much to experience in Uganda. You can request to visit one of the indigenous tribal groups like the Batwa or the Karamojong. There are also high-end cultural centers where you can learn about the history of the country and buy amazing art.

Leading tour operators in Uganda

Group Size: If you are planning to have a private tour with only spouse or family, ensure that the tour operator can provide that. Group tours are more ideal for lone travelers or those who want to meet new people and have fun. If you want a private tour, ensure that the company can provide you with your own car and driver. If you wish to join a group, ensure that the tour company can find you a group to join on the days you plan to do the tour. You should be frank with your tour operator and find out if you can be given a group that you are comfortable with. Teens may wish to join a group of younger travelers while seniors may prefer older travelers.

Method of Payment:  The tour company must be able to provide you with at least two payment methods. Every tour company must provide the option of paying by credit card and also using an official bank account. Sending many through Western Union, Money Gram or World Remit is only recommended if you already know the tour company and there is trust. All payment methods must be secure.

Banking Information: Registered tour operators must have a bank account in their company name. Ensure that you send money only to a company bank account. Having a bank account in their company name is a strong indication that the company is registered.

Giving back to the Community and Eco-tourism: If you wish to give back to the community or support wildlife conservation, choose a tour company that shares your values. Check to see what the tour company is doing for the community or wildlife conservation. Does the company use part of its profits to improve the lives of communities in the country? Do they support wildlife conservation programmes or Eco-tourism? Choosing a company that supports the community or wildlife conservation is an indirect way of ensuring that your money does good to society.

10 Days Experience Uganda’s Exclusive Gorillas and Wildlife ( Private tour)

At the end of December last year, I requested Mukisa Safaris Uganda to organize for me and my two colleagues a 10 days safari to explore Uganda. I should say that from the first time I received a reply from Richard, communication went on properly and promptly until the day we arrived at Entebbe Airport. We got the most memorable experience of nature in Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo National parks and most especially Bwindi Forest where we physically saw gorillas. This was our first experience to travel to Africa and with the uncertainties the Covid pandemic had impacted on the travel industry, we are thankful to Mukisa Safaris because they exceeded our expectations in the way they organized our holiday. We’re thankful to our guide Mable and driver John. They were so friendly, knowledgeable about their country with all that is contained therein that we needed to know. They made our holiday the best experience ever. I highly recommend Mukisa Safaris Uganda to anyone that has plans to Visit Uganda.

8 Days Primates, Wildlife and Water Rafting Uganda Safari (Private tour)

Jordan and I worked with Mukisa to create a bespoke, private tour in Uganda for 9 days this October. Based on one of their itineraries, we elected to visit Jinja for rafting, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Richard emailed us back and forth when setting up the details of the trip. In the booking process, his recommendations for accommodations were excellent; the safari lodges were stayed at, particularly the one at Bwindi were stunning. We decided to book with Mukisa because they had received such excellent reviews and because of Richard's prompt, detailed and attentive communication. The trip lived up to all of our expectations. Joan, our guide, and John, our driver, made us so comfortable, informed and cared for, they felt like old friends by the end of the trip. They were knowledgable and caring, and we always thoughtful to stop on long drives so we could have a coffee and snack! I also want to note very few tour operators in Uganda that we spotted used female guides. Mukisa does and Joan was OUTSTANDING. I was thrilled to be able to support a LOCAL (i.e. Ugandan, not British) company that empowers WOMEN as our tour company. Yes, we saw the Big Five and the falls and the gorillas, but I also got a real sense of Ugandan people and culture (and food!) through my chats with Joan and John. For a safe, trustworthy company dedicated to exceptional safaris, book with Mukisa!

8 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Wildlife Tour

I took this tour late December/early January (December 2022/January 2023). Boaz was my guide the entire time. He was awesome, easy-going, had good knowledge of the areas we visited and great knowledge of the animals. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Uganda and Rwanda with Boaz. I definitely recommend this trip. However, even though the trip is lots of fun with many beautiful areas and animals, it is quite tiring and includes a lot of transit times (vast country - how else to get around than to do a lot of driving?!). As long as you are flexible and respect local cultures and standards, I think this is a fantastic trip.

Chimpanzees and Gorilla Safaris in Uganda Tour

Chimpanzees and Gorilla Safaris in Uganda

This has been the best tour I have ever taken. Look no further. I know there are a ton of companies out there offering gorilla tours in Uganda/ Rwanda or both, and I understand how it is hard to distinguish a good company from a regular one. Below are the reasons why I decided to book Friendly Gorillas, and why I thoroughly recommend them today: - Extremely responsive. From the second I booked the tour to the end of the tour, the team at Friendly Gorillas was always in touch with me. - Extremely flexible and accommodating. During the tour, we decided to extend the tour by an extra two days to do a game drive. We also decided to add more activities, such as seeing the Batwa. Friendly gorillas has American-style customer service: they resolved and executed what we asked to cater to our needs without ever saying something was not possible. - Truly knowledgeable of Uganda: although Friendly Gorillas offer American customer service are dealing with actual people from Uganda. This means that your tour operators know the land, the people, the food, the landscape, the activities better than anyone. - Competitive prices. Because you are directly dealing with an Ugandan company and not a US or British agency that in turn liases with a local company, prices are fair and competitive. Friendly gorillas also explains clearly up front what the money goes to. - Excellent planning and accommodation. At first, I was a bit skeptical of someone booking my hotels. But was I glad that they did that. They chose the best, and nicest places that were strategically closely located to all our activities. - Bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. The company bent over backwards to ensure that the gorilla family we visited was “easier” to find as we were not in the fittest conditions of our life. Youll realize when you reach Uganda that gorilla families are given to different groups to visit depending on, among others, the agility and fitness of the visitors. We appreciated the company’s efforts to accommodate our needs as much as possible. - Loveliest and most knowledgeable guides ever. We went on our tour with Tony, a lovely and super knowledgeable guide. He is from central Uganda and loves his country. He really knows his country material: he can talk to you about Uganda’s history, politics, myths, cuisine, traditions, culture, animals, gorillas, you name it. Tony was also super kind, funny, and considerate. We ultimately ended inviting him to join us for each meal as we really appreciated his company. Safety first. Friendly Gorillas is a company that puts safety first. Two examples come to mind. First, we were two girl friends from University. As women, we were a bit scared about traveling in Uganda at first. Those fears quickly dissipated. Tony went with us everywhere. He made sure that the best rangers would take us to see the monkeys. Whenever he took us to an activity, he made sure to be just outside to pick us up. The second example has to do with our vehicle. When Tony realized one of the tires was a bit flat he went during our lunch to get everything sorted to ensure that all of out tires (including spares) were in perfect condition. Ive already recommended Friendly Gorillas to my friends and family. I hope this review is useful to you as well.

14 DAYS GORILLA,CHIMPANZEE AND SOURCE OF NILE

Everything from start to finish was great. I first reached out to Bosco, the owner on WhatsApp and he was very helpful in answering all my questions and reassured me about the trip. Bosco was also our guide and driver for my 14-day safari. He was a fun, informative guide and driver. Bosco did a great job of selecting comfortable accommodations and food even though it was a budget trip. I got to see elephants, giraffes, lions, chimps, gorillas, and many more! Also, I got to experience some local culture as well, eating local foods and seeing how locals make a living. I felt like I really got my moneys worth on this trip going through a local operator. Bosco was very accommodating stopping for breaks, photos, shopping, atms, etc. I highly recommend anyone going to Uganda choose Enchanted Uganda Safari and Bosco.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Uganda

Let me start by saying that booking our Uganda/Rwanda safari through Mukisa was truly one of the best decisions that we’ve ever made! I am the type of person that meticulously plans every trip and will read through countless reviews, itineraries, etc. before making a decision. For this trip in particular, we were looking for a private tour that had a wide range of activities from multiple treks to game drives and cultural experiences. What initially drew me to Mukisa was the positive feedback from other guests and a mention on their website that they encourage/aid female tour guides. Upon reaching out through their website, I was immediately impressed with Richard’s quick responses, level of detail and ability to accommodate all of our requests. We started with the “10 Days Safari to Encounter Uganda’s Gorillas, Wildlife & Kigali City Tour” but Richard was able to help us customize the trip and integrate other activities that we were interested in - for example, my husband and I wanted to include a bike ride at the end of our trip. We originally didn’t think this could be part of our safari experience so reached out to a few local bike companies but received no responses. I posed the question to Richard (thinking it would be difficult to accommodate) and within 24 hours, he had found us a bike guide and adjusted our trip’s itinerary. Richard showed a tremendous amount of professionalism throughout the planning process, and loved that he met us in-person at the start of our trip! In terms of the actual safari, I could write several pages on all of the things that we loved but I’ll keep it to a few highlights: 1. The safari had an incredibly wide range of things to do, see, explore, etc. - from the types of animals (we were able to see the Big 5!) to the environments, ranging from jungle to forest to savannah. It was a lot to squeeze into 11 days but we truly feel like we left Uganda/Rwanda with a well-rounded experience. 2. All of the accommodations were conveniently located, clean and comfortable. If possible, we would recommend staying at the same hotel for at least 2 nights/each so you can feel settled and potentially upgrading 1-2 hotels, if you’re looking for additional amenities (e.g. swimming pool). Elephant Hab was our favorite hotel in Uganda. 3. We absolutely adored our guide & driver! Most of the other tour groups that we encountered had a single male guide/driver and we loved that Mukisa prioritized giving opportunities to female guides. Mable and Solomon went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed every aspect of our trip and even made adjustments to the itinerary on the fly. Mable had a wealth of knowledge about the animals, culture, people, etc. and Solomon was an exceptional driver - making sure we saw all of the animals on our bucket list and navigating the constantly changing conditions. 4. It was quite clear that Mukisa has a strong reputation in the safari community. Several of the hotel managers and rangers made comments to us that they always enjoy working with Mukisa, and they have some of the best guides/drivers. If you’ve made it this far through my review then I hope you’re now considering Mukisa for your upcoming trip. I do not typically write extensive reviews but I genuinely think that this company is one of the best out there and will make this trip everything you could’ve imagined and more!
I posted my reviews on Google and trip advisor. But in short, it was amazing we enjoyed every moment of our trip. Truly the safari of a lifetime. Recommended by all means! Thanks again to all of you Richard! Martin and Andreea
Epic trip. Had to take one shot at an African Safari incase can’t go again. After lot of research chose Uganda because that is the only place where in addition to the big 5 you can do mountain gorilla trekking. Saw huge number of elephants on land and water, hippos in huge colonies and even 3 grazing at night in our resort grounds. Saw leopard climbing down tree as well as pride of lions in close proximity. Saw a number of white rhinos giraffes huge herds of water buffalos, Nile crocodiles in addition to multitude of birds. The chimpanzee trek was a good preparation for the ultimate gorilla trek in biwindi impenetrable forest. The people of Uganda are very very courteous and polite. Our tour guide Bosco and driver Vince tried hard to make the trip memorable and were very attentive to our needs. Strongly recommend .
