Had a great sunset cruise on the Safari Rose! The crew was great and provided great drinks, appetizers, commentary and blankets to enjoy the scenery. Kids enjoyed feeding Jonathan the seagull. Loved the unique boat – highly recommend this!

Simply Incredible!
I can’t say enough great things about this experience! My boyfriend and I booked a 2 hour Sunset Cruise while visiting Lake Tahoe in the fall of 2020. This was our favorite part of our trip! Our tour guide was so fun and knowledgeable. He made sure we could see everything we wanted during our 2 hour tour, and at the end he even recommended some delicious dinner options from local restaurants! Overall, this was just a beautiful way to experience the lake! We can’t wait to visit again and try out some of their other tour options as well!
Awesome Experience!
If you are visiting South Lake Tahoe, this absolutely needs to be on your agenda! We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-hour excursion across the lake. Our captain, was very knowledgeable and friendly, and made the trip very relaxing and enjoyable. When we return to Lake Tahoe, we will definitely book another trip with Lake Tahoe Boat Rides and, hopefully, with the same Captain.
Excellent Experience!
Our Captain was the perfect blend of knowledgable, informative, respectful of family space, and interactive/fun for our first trip out on the lake in a boat. My boys had a blast tubing! The expense was well worth it and we will definitely be back again! Highly recommended!
We had a great time! Our boys said is was the best part of the vacation! The captains were perfect, fun and patient
Amazing Time!
The boat was perfect for our large group and the captains were awesome. Would definitely book this again, worth every cent!
Highly recommend for a cool experience
I didn’t want to rent a boat and have the hassle of driving it, tubing safely or parking it when I have little experience powering a boat myself, we decided to rent the boat with a captain and it was great! He tells you a little about the history of the lake where you sightsee, and does whatever you want. We went tubing, we jumped in the lake to swim, we picnicked, played music, etc. all without a worry… I would highly recommend for at least a special occasion. I have 2 littles under the age of 4 (I brought their life jackets to wear the whole time), and they surprisingly loved it!
Best part of our Tahoe trip
Had such an amazing time on our boat ride. Went with our family and another and everyone agreed it was the highlight of the trip. Our captain made this day what it was. Super friendly, helpful and offered superior guidance to help maximize our day. The boat was nice and clean and had all the toys that the kids and adults wanted… tubing, wakeboarding, etc. Staff was always responsive when reserving and leading up to our trip.
Absolutely amazing experience!!
The boat was so luxurious (it even had a bathroom on board!) and they got literally every single thing on our itinerary done for us! ESPECIALLY during this Covid time the fact that the boat was so clean and private was absolutely perfect! Could not recommend this experience enough!!!
Great experience, highly recommend
Great morning and lots of fun for 5 of us on the lake with our Captain. Waterskiing, tubing and sight seeing. Everything was professional and high quality from the booking to the checking in to the actual lake experience. The Captain let us know this was ‘our time’ and we could spend as long or as little on whatever activity. He was very patient and informative, and ensured our safety at all times. Highly recommend as a great way to enjoy the lake.
Unforgettable experience!
Beautiful boat, amazing captain! Could not wish for a better experience for my 50th Bday celebration. We will definitely return and ask for him again. He was professional, kind, accommodating and super nice.
Summer Fun with family!
This was the highlight of our vacation! Our captain was the best! We loved the day and definitely would recommend the 4 hr trips.
Highlight of our trip
If you are visiting Tahoe, the only way to fully embrace its beauty is going out on the water! Our captain was so great sharing history of sites around the lake as well as making sure our time on the water was everything we wanted. My husband and kids all tubed and our sides hurt from laughing so much! Do yourself a huge favor and book this now.

I booked to a sunset cruise with my friends and family with Boat Tahoe. We had a blast with our captain, Zach who was easygoing and knowledgeable about the lake. He had great insight about the lake and the year round activities in places like Emerald Bay, South Lake Tahoe. And took good pictures of the group. I would definitely recommend to others.
Captain Zach and Duncan made our first time visit to South Lake Tahoe spectacular! Awesome hospitality, custom tunes on a beautiful boat with blankets to spare-you guys rock😀

5 Lake Tahoe Cruises You Need To Book Right Now
The best advice we could ever give you—book the boat tour. Seriously, we’ve done it all and we’re here to tell you that a summer day on one of these epic Lake Tahoe cruises is simply unmatched.
The beach days, the backcountry hikes, the kayak excursions; they’re epic. But there’s just something about a boat ride that can’t be touched. You’ll get it when you’re gliding into Emerald Bay, sipping a chilled IPA on a sunset cruise or anchored in crystal clear waters at your own private cove.
That’s when you’ll pour one out for the good folks at Epic Lake Tahoe that convinced you, “I need that Lake Tahoe boat tour.” Now you just have to choose which one.
Sip wine on a sunset sail to Emerald Bay.
Wine and sunsets. There’s just something about the combo that works, and trust us, it only gets better when paired with a calm Emerald Bay. Although there’s no shortage of sunset cruises to choose from around Lake Tahoe, nothing elevates the moment quite like the quiet drift of a sailboat.
Save the sails billowing in the wind and cool water spraying against the bow, your journey from South Lake Tahoe to Emerald Bay with Sail Tahoe Blue will feel like magic. No motor, no wake—just an easy breeze powering you along.
Find a comfortable spot on the deck, then tip back a glass of cold, local beer or wine as you glide past Mt. Tallac and some of Tahoe’s favorite beaches. Once in Emerald Bay, you’ll get a close look at the Vikingsholm Castle and the lake’s only island before sailing back to Ski Run Marina.
Especially if you’ve never been sailing before, this is absolutely one of the best Tahoe boat cruise experiences. It really is an unmatched feeling to float through the Sierras off the water & wind alone.
Lock in the most epic sunset of all time on a 2-hour sailing cruise around Lake Tahoe with Sail Tahoe Blue. Premium beer & wine included.
Discover hidden coves on a private boat tour with a captain.
Okay, we know we just waxed poetic about a sunset, happy hour cruise but we’ve got another absolute gem of a Lake Tahoe boat tour in the lineup. If you want the ultimate summer day—and we’re talking the one you think back on for years to come—then a sun-drenched cruise with Boat Tahoe is the way to go.
Pack up the cooler and join your friendly captain on board for one of our favorite boat tours around South Lake Tahoe. Blue skies and the midday sun will transform the lake’s infamously cool waters into the perfect spot to cool off.
Ask your captain to you show around the iconic Emerald Bay sites, suit up for water sports, or simply let them show off the lake’s hidden gems. Tuck into a secluded cove near D.L. Bliss, where you can jump off boulders or anchor in Zephyr Cove for a picnic on the sun deck.
Best of all, your captain will curate the whole experience. Whether it’s breezy, busy or simply a little too boozy, your only job is to kick back and enjoy it.
A private captain, a spacious boat, your crew of six—it’s the perfect recipe for the ultimate day on Lake Tahoe. Discover the best spots on the lake with a 4-hour private boat charter!
Pair a legendary drink with legendary views.
Having one too many of the Camp Richardson Rum Runners is just one of those South Lake Tahoe must-do’s. And while you could always visit The Beacon, we’re partial to slurping down that tropical drink on one of everyone’s favorite Lake Tahoe cruises.
At just 1.5 hours round-trip, the Rum Runner boat tour out to Emerald Bay is half scenic cruise, half party boat. It’s the perfect quick trip—just the right amount of time to buy your friends a round of Rum Runners from the on-boat bar, soak in the views and get back to the marina to chill on the beach.
A great experience for bigger groups or families with kids, these daily tours are one of the easiest (and most fun!) options to get on the water.
Slice into a ribeye dinner cruise beneath the stars.
A year-round classic, sailing from the Zephyr Cove Resort, daytime cruises, dinner cruises and private charters aboard the M.S. Dixie II are always at the top of our list.
But the dinner cruise in particular, with its golden hour departure, full bar and elevated menu transform a scenic boat ride into a can’t-miss Lake Tahoe experience.
The M.S. Dixie II is one of the few Lake Tahoe boat tours that runs no matter what the season. The 500-passenger paddle-wheeler can make a smooth ride out of stormy seas, with a heated salon and dining room with live music. In the summer months, steal out to the sun deck to watch the alpenglow light up the mountain skyline.
Family-friendly and excellent for large groups, this iconic ride around Lake Tahoe is well-loved among locals, tourists and everyone in between.
Enjoy the happiest hour during a North Lake Tahoe cruise.
Everything you’ve seen up until this point has departed from South Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Gal fixes that. Hands down the best boat cruise from the north side of the lake, this historic paddle-wheeler operates daily tours along the stunning west & north shores of Lake Tahoe.
Tours run daily, with on-board food & beverage available for purchase. Family-friendly options like their morning brunch cruise are always an amazing time, but we’re partial to the 1.5 hour happy hour cruise for obvious reasons.
You’re going for the views, of course, but the long list of martini cocktails and curated selection of local wines doesn’t hurt. Make it a special event by bringing a large group along, or keep it intimate as a date night excursion.
Either way, a happy hour on a boat always trumps a regular ol’ restaurant happy hour in our book.
This list has the potential to be really long because, well, we’re firm believers that these Lake Tahoe cruises are some of the best ways to spend your time and money.
But—let’s be honest. Can you imagine anything better than a sunny day spent on a beautiful boat? A cold water plunge? A chilled Rum Runner paired with mountain views? God speed on that booking, folks.
(Rather rent your own boat? We’ve know a few good pontoon and party boat rentals around the lake too.)

Until you are enjoying the water from a Lake Tahoe boat tour, it’s hard to grasp the grandeur of one of the largest alpine lakes, which is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Tahoe boats the best way to see the lake. So grab a camera, bring your sunscreen, and climb aboard one of my favorite Lake Tahoe boat tours this summer.
M.S. Dixie II
If you’re visiting Lake Tahoe for the first time, you must experience a traditional paddlewheel Lake Tahoe boat tour. The M.S. Dixie II departs daily from Zephyr Cove Resort and holds 500 passengers, making it the largest vessel cruising Lake Tahoe. Emerald Bay is the destination, making the out and back around 2 1/2 hours.
Rum Runner Boat Cruise
The Rum Runner is the newest South Lake Tahoe boat tour. The 55-foot yacht is equipped with two decks, one enclosed and the other wide open for great viewing. Be sure to bring your own snacks aboard, while the Beacon Restaurant supplies its famous Rum Runners and other beverages for purchase.
Tahoe Bleu Wave
This yacht has been around the world and is now cruising Lake Tahoe. Measuring 70-feet, the Tahoe Bleu Wave is ideal for large groups (up to 50). It has a fully stocked bar with fireplace, private lounge, stateroom, fly-bridge, spacious party bow, climate controlled indoor facilities, and plenty of space to take in Tahoe’s incredible sunsets.
Safari Rose
This lake cruiser is all about luxury. Built in 1959 for the 3M Corporation, the Safari Rose is a classic yacht that glides effortlessly across Lake Tahoe. This 80-foot vessel features a dining room, plush couches, heated salon, fully-stocked bar, enclosed fantail, sun deck and a cozy fireplace.
No matter which Lake Tahoe boat tour you choose, touring the lake on a cruise is one of the best ways to experience the size and beauty of Lake Tahoe.

We had the best time on the Happy Hour Cruise! The boat is charming and the views of the lake are stunning and beautiful! The staff were all incredibly friendly and accommodating from check in to the photo guy to the captain! We brought our own captain's hats to be goofy and the captain and staff got such a kick out of it that they let us get a look at the cockpit (is it a cockpit on a boat??) and pretend to drive! It was a fun, relaxing activity before going to dinner.
A group of 14 of us threw a surprise party for my wife, to celebrate an upcoming milestone birthday. The folks at the Tahoe Gal could not have been nicer! From the initial booking, they did everything with excellence. The music dinner cruise was extraordinary! The lake was calm. The views were stunning. The table for our group was perfect. The musicians were talented and even played Happy Birthday for my wife. The food was better than any restaurant (I had the prime rib ... not to be missed!). And I cannot say enough about our server, Christian. He was terrific and handled our large group with ease. Kudos, Tahoe Gal! Well done!!!
This was a perfect way to enjoy the lake. Took the Tahoe Gal over to Emerald Bay for a Sunday lunch cruise. The day was beautiful and the bay, beyond words. Enjoyed learning about the lake and the history of the area. The captain did a great job with all the information, however, the sound system could be improved. The food, albeit a bit pricey was good and the mixed drinks yum! The crew did a great job and were always smiling even though they were kept busy... Overall we loved it and would definitely do it again!!!

Lake Tahoe Travel Guide and FAQ
When’s the best time to visit lake tahoe.
It’s a tough call to say that summer or winter is better to go to Lake Tahoe. For a boat trip, definitely the summer is much warmer and pleasant as it gets windy out on the waters and you can actually swim. However, the area is also famous for it’s numerous world-class ski resorts in the winter months.
Why is Lake Tahoe so famous?
Lake Tahoe is renowned for its clear waters and impressive size, ranking it among North America’s largest lakes. Its endorheic basin means it drains into the Truckee River instead of flowing towards the ocean, which is what makes it so clean. The lake is also a major tourist attraction with world-class skiing and summer outdoor recreation.
Is Lake Tahoe expensive?
Visiting Lake Tahoe is not cheap. It’s hard to find availability in budget-friendly hotels, especially near the shores. Boat trips and ski resort passes are expensive leisure activities. However, there are certain cost-effective ways to see the area, too, like hiking or going for scenic drives.
How much does a boat ride in Lake Tahoe cost?
The price of a boat ride in Lake Tahoe can fluctuate depending on the type of boat, the length of the ride, and whether it’s a private or group tour. Kayak tours can range from $50 to $100 per person. Private boat charters can cost anywhere from $300 to $600 for a couple of hours, while group tours on larger boats can range from $30 to $80 per person.
How long does it take to boat around Lake Tahoe?
The time it takes to boat around Lake Tahoe can depend on the speed of your boat. With a shoreline of about 72 miles, it could take several hours to navigate around the entire lake.
Final Thoughts: Best Lake Tahoe Boat Tours
Undoubtedly, gliding around on a boat, kayak, or yacht on Lake Tahoe is one of the most fun experiences you can have. I may have brought my own kayak to get sunburned on the serene waters, but in lieu of having your own, I highly recommend joining a trip to absorb the beauty of this place.
In case you missed it, here are my favorites:
- See the dazzling blues of the lake; join this sailing adventure .
- Paddle around and see the depths of the blue waters; sign up for this clear kayak outing .
- Go on a private charter for just your group; book this luxury yacht class experience .
