Stone Sour (formed in 1992) is an American hard rock and alternative metal band founded by future Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor and drummer Joel Ekman, hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.

Frontman Corey Taylor, drummer Joel Ekman, and bassist Shawn Economaki comprised the earliest incarnation of Stone Sour in 1992. Throughout the early ‘90s the group recorded and released a pair of demo tapes to raise their profile and later enlisted Slipknot member Jim Root to complete the lineup. In 1996 a third demo was recorded after which Taylor and Root devoted most of their time to Slipknot who subsequently secured a record deal.

Guitarist Josh Rand joined ahead of the band’s eponymously-titled debut album, which was almost entirely based on their 1996 demo tape. Released on Roadrunner Records, the album earned a string of positive reviews aided by the singles “Get Inside”, “Bother”, and “Inhale”. In support of the release Stone Sour toured nationally alongside Chevelle and Sinch, before embarking on a European tour with Saliva. The album charted at No. 46 on the Billboard 200 and subsequently received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Metal Performance for the singles “Get Inside” and “Inhale”.

Stone Sour’s sophomore album “Come What(ever) May” arrived in 2006 marking the departure of drummer Joel Ekman and arrival of Isaac James, who was ultimately replaced by Roy Mayorga. The record was greeted positively by critics, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, led by the No. 2 Mainstream Rock Single “Sillyworld”. Like its predecessor, the band’s third full-length, “Audio Secrecy” was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, however this time debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Earning a host of positive reviews, the record highlighted Taylor’s flexibility and musical prowess.

The full-length “House of Gold & Bones - Part 1” was issued by Roadrunner in October 2002 and was the first without bass player Shawn Economaki. Led by the singles “Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero” and “Tired”, the album received warm reviews, and was followed by “House of Gold & Bones - Part 2” in April 2013.

Live reviews

Stone Sour is, in my opinion, the best Iowa has to offer, even better than Iowa sweet corn. As a fellow Iowan, it was my duty to attend a live Stone Sour show, and I got the chance to do that when they played the House of Marquee Theatre in February, 2014.

Stone Sour began playing to the sold out crowd with “The House Of Gold & Bones” and the audience exploded. They moved from one song to the next, playing “RU486,” "Say You’ll Haunt Me,” and “Mission Statement”, along with “30/30-150” and one of my favorites, “Through Glass.” They finished their set with the classics “Inhale,” and “Bother”.

Corey Taylor (of Slipknot) is the band's front man and vocalist. Occasionally, Taylor let the crowd sing the vocals, and they never missed a word. Taylor even performed a solo and the band did a splendid cover of Alice In Chains’ “Nutshell." The audience's request for a head banging encore as met with “Gone Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero.”

Stone Sour has been nominated for several Grammy awards for the Best Metal Performance and this live show was clear evidence of why it was nominated. A non-stop, back-to-back series of endless hits delivers a show that any metal fan would appreciate.

If you have a chance to see a Stone Sour show live, treat yourself because it will be epic.

Report as inappropriate

Although Corey Taylor lost himself slightly to Slipknot, he more than made up for it with his leading performance as foreman of Stone Sour. The alternative rock and metal band are one of the best, and one of the only, musical talents to emerge from Iowa, a county not so much famous for its stars as it is for its sweetcorn. Interestingly, the band are squeezed between Labyrinth and Daughter on the site’s popularity rankings, an unusual sandwich indeed, considering the differing genres. Nonetheless, it is a testament to how popular the band remains to be, and their hard core fans tuned up in full force and with high spirits to watch the rock/ metal band perform live. Indeed, the show was, impressively, completely sold out. The arena was packed and moshpits had soon formed as the band struck up the chords for various fan favourites, from early hit ‘Inhale’ to ‘RU486’ and classic hit ‘Bother’. The crowd sung along to the big tunes and Taylor treated us all with a solo performance, which was one of the clear highlights of the night.

Albeit for a brief hiatus in the late 90s, American hard rock outfit Stone Sour have been playing the live circuit since 1992 and this wealth of experience translates into one hell of a live show. The group has always been a commercial hit on both sides of the Atlantic so the touring schedule is gruelling as they endeavour to reach the whole fanbase.

There is no sign of the travel waring on the ageing musicians tonight as they come out onto stage and tackle and grapple with their discography. The huge riffs and massive percussion keeps the whole room buzzing with a rock static as the fans raise their arms and form the rock symbol with their hands. Lead vocalist Corey Taylor simply sneers in a quiet impressed way before launching into singles including 'Bother' and 'Through Glass'. It is clear that all these years later the fans sitll absolutely love these rock anthems and throw themselves into it whilst the quintet perform with expert proficiency up onstage.

The show was awesome, started of with an explosion of pyrotechnics and the band rocking Corey Taylor front stage head banging with the crowd. The band were on top form performing the staple Hydrograd heavyweights along with classics from the first album like Get Inside, Cold Reader and Bother.

The crowd’s appreciation was well received and much appreciated by Corey and team Sour. With a fairly safe but mental mosh pit everyone had a crowd surfingly amazing time.

There was even a guest appearance with young Griffin given the crowd a warm middle finger salute.

Great sound, stompingly loud quality tunes from a band who will have the live if the fans. #MadeOfScars

I was super excited to see Stone Sour, as I had never seen them live. I think Corey Taylor has an awesome voice and he seems like he would have a good stage presence. I may have expected too much, because though they were alright, that was it. Just average. Corey did try, he had a lot of energy, but his vocals were drowned out by the guitars. The sound was poor, and so it was difficult to hear him sing. He came out later to perform a song with Korn, and sounded awesome. So, I would say that they were fine, just not great. I would go see them again in the future and hope for a better show.

Having waited for a couple of years to see Stonesour this was something I had been looking forward to for a long while. Bought the tickets ages ago but it was such a disappointment.

Not the band and show which was great but the sound was dreadful. Music was not clear and Corey's voice could hardly be heard. Not sure if this was due to the mic or the fact the sound was only aimed straight ahead of the stage and not for those at the sides.

Slipknot last year were brilliant and had hoped this would be the same but unfortunately it wasn't. Maybe next time....

Great set and Corey was really on form. Festival Hall in Melbourne is awesome on the floor but this time we were in the seats and Jesus, they squeeze you in. It was do uncomfortable...I'll be back on the floor next time.

Anyway, the gig itself was a pretty cool mix of old and new...loud and softer. The crowd were really involved as always at stone sour gigs in Aussie. Overall a fantastic night and highly recommended to anyone with an ounce of rock in their bones.

This was a great concert!! Love Stone Sour— this was my first time seeing them and they sounded awesome live. I expected a longer set from seeing their other set lists from previous nights, but for whatever reason they cut our night short. I was happy they played a lot of my favorites though! Actually the entire concert ended a half hour earlier than normal which is unusual— and upsetting also. But it was s great show! Looking forward to next time!!!!

Stone Sour delivered another great performance last night. Full of energy as they always. However, the sound control wasn't very good. It was really tough hear Corey's voice. Basically the drum sound was dominating the whole scene.

Shame. Hopefully next time there will be a better chance to enjoy them! Keep rockin guys!

OZZY OSBOURNE Announces 'No More Tours 2' North American Dates With STONE SOUR

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and Grammy -winning singer and songwriter Ozzy Osbourne earlier today (February 6) revealed details about his forthcoming "No More Tours 2" , a reference to his 1992 "No More Tours" trek. The announcement by the legendary musical icon about the North American dates — with his longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde (guitar), Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (bass), Tommy Clufetos (drums) and Adam Wakeman (keyboards) — was made to international media in attendance at his Los Angeles home.

The initial North American dates produced by Live Nation kick off August 30 in Allentown, Pennsylvania and conclude October 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a Thursday, October 11 stop at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles; Ozzy will be joined by STONE SOUR for this leg of the tour. Tickets for these shows go on sale to the general public starting Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. (local time) at LiveNation.com and through the Live Nation app. Citi is the official presale credit card of the tour. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Wednesday, February 14 at 10:00 a.m. (local time) until Friday, February 16 at 10:00 p.m. (local time) through Citi 's Private Pass program.

Prior to the full North American run, Ozzy will officially launch the "No More Tours 2" in Mexico in May, before heading to South America for solo shows in three countries. Next up, a six-week European leg of headlining solo dates and festival performances that's set to begin Friday, June 1 in Moscow, Russia.

"I've been extremely blessed to have had two successful music careers," Osbourne says. "I'm looking at this final tour as being a huge celebration for my fans and anyone who has enjoyed my music over the past five decades."

On his upcoming farewell world tour, produced by Live Nation , Osbourne will celebrate more than five decades as a performer (both as a solo artist and as lead singer of BLACK SABBATH which formed in 1968). This tour, expected to take Ozzy around the world with dates into 2020, will mark the end of global touring for the legendary artist, though he will continue to perform select live shows in the future. Throughout his career, Ozzy has sold more than 100 million records.

Want to hear more about the Ozzy tour from the Prince of Darkness himself? Ozzy has partnered with Ticketmaster to spread the word about the tour with a new message on the Ticketmaster app for the Google Assistant on phones, speakers like Google Home and other compatible devices. Fans can trigger the app by saying, "Hey Google , talk to Ticketmaster ," which will offer special messages from the Prince of Darkness himself. Fans will then be invited by Sharon Osbourne to hear details about Ozzy 's upcoming Live Nation tour dates. This new marketing tool expands the ways for Ozzy 's millions of fans to find out about his tour and provides a fun, first of its kind experience.

For the tour, Ozzy has teamed with the Love, Hope, Strength, Foundation . At Love Hope Strength ( LHS ),their mission is to save lives, one concert at a time. We, along with Love Hope Strength , believe that all people deserve quality cancer care, a marrow donor if needed, and most importantly, hope. Founded by cancer survivors, LHS leverages the power of music to expand the marrow registry through their "Get on the List" campaign. At LHS , they believe in offering real hope to people currently living with cancer.

Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he wanted to keep performing for fans as long as he could. "I don't wanna stop, you know," he said. "It's been the biggest love affair of my life. When you reach a certain age in rock 'n' roll, people think, 'Well, this has got to be his last tour,' or 'This has got to be his last tour,' or 'You've got to come next Tuesday 'cause he ain't gonna do it after that.' You'll know when I've come off the road permanently. I mean, you'll know!"

This is not the first time Ozzy has announced the end of his days as a touring artist. Back in 1992, he called it quits after his "No More Tours" tour — a pun based on the title of his then-most recent solo album, "No More Tears" — with his solo band, only to return to action three years later.

Ozzy has not released an all-new solo album since 2010's "Scream" , having spent the last few years touring with BLACK SABBATH and recording that band's "13" album.

Corey Taylor Discusses the ‘Drama’ Behind Stone Sour’s Current Hiatus

Corey Taylor addressed Stone Sour 's ongoing " indefinite hiatus " in a new interview with rock radio host  Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM Volume's Trunk Nation  this week.

During the chat, the rock and metal singer indicated that "drama" between Stone Sour members played a part in the respite. Not to mention, "the solo thing's more where my heart is, to be honest," Taylor explained.

As longtime fans know, Stone Sour is the band that Taylor originated in his native Iowa back in the early '90s, before he became the lead singer of masked metalheads  Slipknot . And though Stone Sour has gone on hiatus before, the rock group retreated more substantially in 2020, three years after their latest studio album, Hydrograd . Taylor also released his first solo album  in 2020.

So what does the erstwhile Stone Sour bandleader think about the situation now?

"To me, I've done the time doing stuff in a — for lack of a better term — band situation," Taylor told Trunk on Tuesday (Aug. 30), according to Blabbermouth . "And the reason I stick with Slipknot is because that, to me, is the one that kind of started everything."

Taylor continued, "But Stone Sour, there's still so much drama and issues [between the members]. To me, it's just not something I desire to do. And songs in Stone Sour that I want to play are the ones that I wrote in the first place."

He added, "So to me, I would rather go out with a group of dudes who I've known forever and have a great time playing these songs and have the audience enjoy it because they see a bunch of dudes up there enjoying it than try to force issues on an audience that nobody really wants to be a part of, let's put it that way."

Is Taylor's current evaluation seemingly incongruous with his previous remarks on Stone Sour's indefinite hiatus? Last year, he said Stone Sour " will always be there for me ."

Last month, Slipknot released their new song " The Dying Song (Time to Sing) ," the first official single from their seventh studio album, The End, So Far , which comes out Sept. 30. Last year's pre-release Slipknot single " The Chapeltown Rag " will also appear on the effort.

Meanwhile, Slipknot's " Knotfest Roadshow " tour starts back up in September with support from the fellow rockers  Ice Nine Kills and Crown the Empire . See all the tour dates below and  get tickets here .
