Common Reasons for Malaysia Visa Rejections and How to Avoid Them

When applying for a Malaysia visa, it is important to understand the common reasons for rejections and how to avoid them. By being aware of these issues and taking necessary precautions, you can increase your chances of a successful visa application. Here are some common reasons for Malaysia visa rejections and tips on how to avoid them:

1. Incomplete Documentation

One of the main reasons for visa rejections is incomplete documentation. Make sure you provide all the required documents and ensure they are up to date. Double-check the application form and ensure that all fields are filled correctly.

2. Lack of Financial Proof

Another common reason for visa rejections is a lack of financial proof. You need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Malaysia. Provide bank statements, income tax returns, and any other supporting documents that show your financial stability.

3. Inadequate Travel Insurance

Having adequate travel insurance is essential when applying for a Malaysia visa. Make sure your insurance policy covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and other unforeseen circumstances. Provide the necessary proof of insurance along with your application.

4. Criminal Record

If you have a criminal record, it can affect your visa application. Be honest and transparent about any past convictions or legal issues. Provide relevant documents and explain the circumstances surrounding your case.

5. Lack of Travel Itinerary

Having a detailed travel itinerary is important to demonstrate your purpose of visit and duration of stay in Malaysia. Provide a comprehensive itinerary that includes accommodation details, transportation arrangements, and planned activities.

6. Overstaying a Previous Visa

If you have previously overstayed a visa in Malaysia or any other country, it can negatively impact your current visa application. Provide a valid explanation for the overstay and provide supporting documents to show that you have resolved the issue.

7. Inadequate ties to Home Country

It is important to establish strong ties to your home country to convince the authorities that you will return after your visit to Malaysia. Provide documents such as property ownership, employment contracts, and family ties to demonstrate your commitment to your home country.

By avoiding these common mistakes and ensuring that your application is complete and well-documented, you can increase your chances of a successful Malaysia visa application. If you need further assistance or have any questions, feel free to contact our visa services team at AGT.

Top Causes of Malaysia Visa Rejection: Know Before You Apply

Securing a Malaysia visa is a pivotal step for individuals seeking to explore the enchanting landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and economic opportunities that this Southeast Asian gem has to offer. However, amidst the allure of Malaysia, potential travelers often encounter a formidable obstacle: visa rejection. Understanding the most important reasons behind Malaysia visa rejections is paramount for anyone planning to embark on this journey.

We will explore the common pitfalls and mistakes that many applicants inadvertently fall into, as well as the stringent criteria that Malaysian authorities uphold when reviewing visa applications. So, let's unravel the most important reasons for Malaysia visa rejection and equip you with the knowledge to overcome them.

Malaysia Visa Rejection

Common Reasons for Malaysia Visa Rejection

Incomplete or inaccurate documentation.

Missing or incorrectly filled application forms:

One of the most fundamental mistakes an applicant can make is to submit an incomplete or incorrectly filled visa application form. This seemingly minor error can lead to visa rejection. The Malaysian authorities have specific requirements for application forms, and any deviation from these guidelines may result in rejection. To avoid this, applicants should meticulously complete and review their forms before submission.

nadequate supporting documents:

Accompanying your application with the necessary supporting documents is crucial. These documents serve as evidence of your eligibility and intentions.

Financial Insufficiency

Insufficient funds to cover expenses:

You are required to submit proof that you have enough financial resources to cover your expenses in Malaysia. If you cannot, your application will be rejected. To avoid this, applicants should ensure their bank statements or sponsorship letters clearly indicate sufficient funds for the intended duration of stay.

Lack of evidence of financial stability:

Beyond just having enough money, applicants should also provide evidence of financial stability. Consistent income sources, stable employment, and a reasonable balance between income and expenses can reassure immigration officials about your financial credibility. Failing to demonstrate financial stability can lead to visa rejection.

Purpose of Visit

Mismatch between your stated purpose and supporting documents:

You must correctly state your purpose of visit and also offer the necessary documents. If there is a discrepancy, it can raise suspicion, and your application shall be rejected.

Suspicion of immigration violations:

Immigration authorities closely monitor for potential visa violations. Suspicion of non-compliance, like overstaying or unauthorized work, can lead to visa denial. So, transparency is crucial.

Criminal Record

Convictions or pending charges:

Malaysia may reject visa applicants with criminal records, including convictions or pending charges, due to concerns about admitting individuals with such histories. Transparency regarding one's criminal history is essential, as concealing it can result in severe consequences.

Failure to provide necessary police clearance certificates:

In some cases, Malaysia may require applicants to submit police clearance certificates from their home country. Failing to provide these certificates when required can result in visa rejection. It is crucial to research and understand the specific documentation requirements for your visa type and comply with them diligently.

Overstay History

Previous visa violations:

Overstaying is a serious offense. So if you have a history of visa violation, especially overstaying, your application will be rejected and you will be banned for life from entering the country.

Record of overstaying in Malaysia:

A record of overstaying in Malaysia is a red flag for immigration authorities. Even if an applicant rectified their previous overstays, the authorities may view them with suspicion. To mitigate this issue, applicants should maintain a clean immigration record and ensure they adhere to the visa conditions strictly.

Employment-Related Rejection Factors

Here are some employment-related rejection factors for Malaysia visa applications:

Lack of a Valid Job Offer:

A valid job offer from a Malaysian employer is typically a fundamental requirement for an employment visa. Without a correct and legal document, your application will be rejected.

Ineligible Occupation:

Certain occupations may be restricted or prohibited for foreign workers in Malaysia. Ensure that your intended occupation is eligible for foreign employment in Malaysia. The Immigration Department of Malaysia maintains a list of approved occupations for foreign workers, and deviating from this list can lead to rejection.

Inadequate Supporting Documentation:

Make sure that you are submitting all the necessary documents like educational certificate, professional qualification and relevant work experience document to avoid rejection.

Lack of Employer Endorsement:

Make sure to ask your employer to offer you an endorsement or a letter of support for your visa application.

Health and Security Concerns

Before filing the visa application make it a point to go through these health and security related factors which can lead to Malaysia visa rejection:

Lack of required vaccinations or medical screenings:

Just like any other country Malaysia may ask you to provide proof of certain vaccinations or undergo medical screening. This is to ensure that you are not carrying any communicable diseases.

One of the most common vaccines required is the COVID vaccination document. Keep it ready.

Health risks to public safety:

During the medical check, if you are found to have a communicable disease that can be a significant threat to the public, your Malaysia Visit visa will be denied immediately.

Overcoming Malaysia Visa Rejection

The appeal process

After a Malaysia visa rejection, you can appeal by submitting a comprehensive appeal letter and requested documents to address the rejection reasons and strengthen your case.

Reapplying after addressing rejection reasons

After identifying and rectifying the specific reasons for your visa rejection, you can reapply. Ensure that all issues that led to the initial rejection have been resolved and that your application is complete and accurate.

Tips for a Successful Malaysia Visa Application

Here are seven essential tips for a successful Malaysia visa application:

Choose the Right Visa Type: Select the appropriate visa category that aligns with your purpose of travel, whether it's for tourism, business, education, or work. Applying for the correct visa type is crucial to avoid rejection.

Plan Ahead: Initiate the visa application process well in advance of your intended travel date. Visa processing times can vary, so make sure you have sufficient time for processing and potential delays.

Complete the Application Form Accurately: Fill out the visa application form carefully and accurately. Ensure that all the information you provide matches your supporting documents.

Gather Required Documents: Collect all the necessary documents like your passport, travel proof, hotel proof, etc.

Demonstrate Financial Stability: Provide evidence of your financial capacity to support your stay in Malaysia. This may involve bank statements, pay stubs, or a letter of financial sponsorship.

Honesty is Key: Always be truthful in your application. Providing false information can lead to immediate rejection and may have long-term consequences for future visa applications.

Follow Instructions Carefully: Pay close attention to the specific requirements and guidelines.

Understanding the key reasons for Malaysia visa rejection is pivotal for a successful application.  Future applicants should view rejection experiences as stepping stones to a more robust and informed approach. With careful preparation, adherence to guidelines, and a willingness to learn, you can significantly enhance your chances of obtaining that coveted Malaysia visa and embarking on a memorable journey filled with exploration and adventure.

The pettiest mistake like incorrect details or omission of certain details could result into Malaysia visa rejection .

Steps to get Malaysia Visa

Let’s take a look at some of the most common mistakes that may result in Malaysia visa rejection.

  • Selecting the wrong category of the visa application can be a main reason that could be held responsible for your Malaysia visa rejection. Most countries have different categories of visa each with slightly different rules and eligibility criteria. We understand that your trip might be a mix of business and pleasure, but you need to mention a very specific purpose on your visa application i.e. either tourist, business , work etc. Choose the wrong one and you will have wasted your time and money preparing an application.
  • If you do not have sufficient funds and financial resources to maintain yourself. Travelling to Malaysia or any other country is not only about getting the visa and landing in the country. No country will give you a visa in the first place if you don’t have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family (even if not accompanying the main applicant).
  • If the photographs provided are not as per the specifications. It is blur, not a recently clicked one or not with white background. This will definitely lead to visa rejection right away.
  • If your passport isn’t valid for the next six months, chances are that the authorities will not issue you a Malaysia visa. Ignoring the validity clause is the most common reason for visa rejection.
  • You overstayed or submitted false documents on the previous trip to Malaysia resulting into you being blacklisted from getting a Malaysia visa again.
  • Discrepancies in your visa application form i.e. If your signature on the visa application doesn’t exactly match the one on your passport or you leave one or more segments unanswered or typo errors of name, passport number in your application form. As a result of these, your application might get rejected.
  • For online applications if the scanned passport copies are not clear or blurred when applied online on the Malaysia Immigration system. This is a common reason for Malaysia visa rejection.
  • An applicant’s current and/or past actions, such as drug or criminal activities.

Tips for a successful Malaysia visa application.

Make sure :

  • Your passport is valid for minimum six months with two bank pages
  • You know the level of funds you are required to show in your bank statement
  • You are specific about your travel purpose. If you’re going for plainly tourism purpose mention that. If business mention the exact purpose
  • Plan your trip well in advance so you get enough time at hand to arrange all documents. Above all, last minute preparation can lead to confusion and blunders in your visa application

MALAYSIA E-VISA

Malaysia eVISA image

Malaysia eVISA application is online and you can apply from anywhere in the world.

If you are applying from a country other than your country of passport, you must provide proof of residency in that country. The Malaysia eVISA portal tracks the IP address. Therefore the eVISA application knows where you are applying from and expects proof of residency from that country.

If you reside in Singapore, Israel or North Korea, you cannot apply for Malaysia eVISA. You must apply for a Malaysian visa from your nearest Malaysian high commission.

Also, you cannot apply for a Malaysia eVISA when you are already physically present in Malaysia. If you are already in Malaysia on an eVISA or any other type of visa, you must first exit Malaysia. Then you can apply for a fresh eVISA from your country of passport or legal residence.

Malaysia eVISAs are single-entry only, valid for 3 months. Visa extensions are not allowed.

Word of caution on Malaysia eVISA Scams

There are fake websites posing as “official websites” and charging three or four times the visa fee. Do not fall prey to such scams.

There is ONLY ONE OFFICIAL Malaysia eVISA website. The URL is below.

OFFICIAL Malaysia eVISA website: https://malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my/evisa/evisa.jsp

Validity of Malaysia eVISA

The validity of Malaysia eVISA is 3 months from the day of issue. You can stay in Malaysia for either 15 days or 30 days depending on your nationality.

When to apply for E-Visa

You can apply for your Malaysia eVISA up to 1 month in advance. The E-Visa processing takes 2 working days. But due to high demand, the processing is currently taking much longer than 2 working days. I highly recommend applying for your eVISA at least a month prior to your travel date.

Passport validity required for eVISA

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your expected date of arrival in Malaysia.

How long can you stay in Malaysia on eVISA

Stay granted on a Malaysia eVISA depends on the nationality. Refer to the below table for how long you can stay with an eVISA.

eVISA application process

Malaysia eVISA is a simple application. Takes about 30 minutes to fill out and submit. The approval process takes about 2 working days.

IMPORTANT After the approval, you must print your eVISA. A soft copy of eVISA on your phone is not accepted. The immigration officer will stamp the port and date of entry on your eVISA print. You may be asked to show this eVISA print with the stamp at the time of leaving the country. Therefore, carrying a print of your eVISA is very much necessary.

You will need the following documents.

  • Digital passport-size photo
  • Passport ID/data page
  • Confirmed round-trip flight tickets
  • Hotel bookings
  • Other supporting documents (ex: proof of residence, etc.)

IMPORTANT Even though the eVISA portal accepts onward tickets to your next destination after Malaysia, the Malaysian embassy/consulate responsible for processing your eVISA will later ask for complete round-trip flight tickets. That means, flight tickets originating and ending in your home country or country of residence are required.

For example, if your home country or country of residence is India and your trip is India-Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand-India, you must upload all flight tickets starting from India and ending in India. If you submit just the inbound and outbound tickets (ex: Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand), you will be later asked to upload your full itinerary.

Photo requirements

The digital photograph must meet the following specifications.

  • Must be 35mm x 50mm in dimensions
  • Must be on a pure white background
  • Must have been taken within the last 6 months
  • Full face must be in the center without any headgear or glasses
  • Must be a professional passport photo taken in a studio
  • Cellphone photos, selfies and cropped photos are not accepted

The eVISA fee is 50 MYR for India, 30 MYR for China and 20 MYR for all other nationalities. A detailed table with eVISA fee is below.

Apart from the eVISA fee, there is also a processing charge and service charge.

  • Processing charge: 105 MYR
  • Service Charge: 0.8% of total transaction value

Processing time

Malaysia eVISA processing time is 2 working days. But due to the high amount of applications, processing times are often longer than 2 working days. I highly recommend applying at least a month in advance.

IMPORTANT In certain cases, the Malaysian embassy/consulate responsible for processing your application may demand additional documentation or an in-person or video interview, which might further delay your processing.

Application tracking

You can track your Malaysia eVISA application within your dashboard on the Malaysia eVISA portal. You will also be notified of any changes in status via email. Your application can have any of the 6 statuses.

  • NEW APPLICATION: Your eVISA application hasn’t been submitted yet
  • IN PROGRESS: Your eVISA application is in process
  • APPROVED: Your eVISA application has been approved
  • REJECTED: Your eVISA application has been refused
  • REQUEST DOCUMENT/DATA AMENDMENT: You must correct the information or upload additional documents
  • REQUEST INTERVIEW: You must attend an in-person interview

Request Document/Data Amendment

If your Malaysia eVISA application requires any additional information or documentation, the Malaysian embassy/consulate will notify you of the list of additional documents needed. You will be given 5 days to upload the requested documents.

Once you have uploaded all the requested documents, the processing time will be reset. It will take 2 more working days from that point onward for the processing of your visa.

In certain instances, the Malaysian embassy/consulate may request additional documents multiple times until the embassy/consulate is satisfied with your documents.

Request Interview

If your eVisa application requires an additional proof, the Malaysian embassy/consulate will simply set up a “request for interview” appointment on your behalf.

This can be annoying as you have no choice in selecting your date/time for the in-person interview. I have seen only a handful of cases where was requested to appear in person for an interview at the embassy or consulate.

NOTE There is no option to change the date/time of the appointment. If you cannot make it to the appointment, I suggest applying for the visa again on the eVISA portal.

Priority visa service (optional, not applicable to all visa guides)

Unfortunately, there is no priority visa processing. The visa process usually takes 2 working days. It can take much longer in some instances. So apply at least one month prior to your trip.

Customer service (optional, not applicable to all visa guides)

You can use the live chat support on Malaysia eVISA portal to ask any questions or inquire about the status of your visa application. The chat agents are available 24×7.

Can I Reapply for Malaysia Visa?

Receiving a visa rejection can be disheartening, especially when you have plans to visit Malaysia. However, in certain circumstances, it is possible to reapply for a Malaysia visa. This article aims to guide you through the process of reapplying for a Malaysia visa and provide helpful insights to increase your chances of a successful application.

Understanding Visa Reapplication

Visa reapplication refers to the process of submitting a new visa application after a previous application has been rejected. Reapplying gives you an opportunity to address the concerns that led to the rejection and provide additional documentation or clarification to support your case.

Reasons for Visa Rejection

Visa rejections can occur due to various reasons, including:

Incomplete or inaccurate application form: Ensure all sections of the application form are filled out accurately and completely.

Insufficient supporting documents: Provide all required documents to support your application, such as proof of accommodation, financial statements, and travel itinerary.

Lack of financial proof: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay and expenses during your visit.

Failure to meet health or character requirements: Some visas require specific health or character criteria; failure to meet these may result in rejection.

Suspicions of immigration violation or fraudulent intent: Any indications of dishonesty or fraudulent activities can lead to visa rejection.

Assessing Eligibility for Visa Reapplication

Before reapplying for a Malaysia visa, assess your eligibility based on the rejection reason and whether you can address it adequately. If the reason for rejection can be resolved through additional documentation or clarification, you may be eligible to reapply.

Steps to Reapply for Malaysia Visa

Follow these steps to reapply for a Malaysia visa:

Understand the Rejection Reason

Thoroughly review the rejection letter or notice to understand the specific reason for the visa rejection. This will help you determine the necessary actions for your reapplication.

Address the Rejection Reason

Take the necessary steps to address the rejection reason. For example, if the rejection was due to incomplete supporting documents, ensure that you gather all the required documents and ensure they are accurate and complete.

Gather Additional Supporting Documents

Identify any additional supporting documents that can strengthen your case. This may include updated bank statements, a detailed travel itinerary, a letter of invitation, or any other relevant documentation that supports your purpose of visit and demonstrates your ties to your home country.

Complete the Visa Application Form

Fill out the visa application form accurately and provide all the required information. Double-check the form to avoid any errors or inconsistencies.

Pay the Visa Fee

Pay the visa application fee as required. Ensure that you follow the correct payment procedure and retain the payment receipt for future reference.

Submit the Application and Supporting Documents

Submit your visa application and supporting documents to the appropriate Malaysian embassy, consulate, or visa application center. Ensure that you include a cover letter addressing the rejection reason and explaining the steps you have taken to rectify the issues.

Dealing with Multiple Visa Rejections

If you have faced multiple visa rejections, it is important to reassess your approach and consider seeking professional assistance. An immigration consultant or visa specialist can provide valuable guidance and help you navigate the complexities of the application process. They can review your case, identify any potential weaknesses, and provide tailored advice to increase your chances of a successful visa application.

Reapplying for a Malaysia visa after a rejection is possible, provided you understand the reasons for the rejection, address them effectively, and provide the necessary supporting documents. It is essential to be diligent, accurate, and proactive during the reapplication process. By following the outlined steps and seeking professional assistance if needed, you can increase your chances of obtaining a Malaysia visa.

Can I reapply immediately after my visa gets rejected?

There is no specific waiting period mentioned for reapplying. However, it is advisable to take the necessary time to address the reasons for rejection and ensure you have gathered all the required documents before submitting a new application.

Will my previous rejection affect my chances of getting a visa again?

While a previous rejection can have an impact, it does not automatically disqualify you from future visa applications. By addressing the reasons for rejection and providing a strong case with sufficient supporting documents, you can still have a chance of obtaining a Malaysia visa.

Do I need to provide different documents during the reapplication process?

It is essential to review the rejection reason and assess whether additional or updated documents are required. Depending on the reason for rejection, you may need to provide specific documents to address the concerns raised during the previous application.

Should I mention my previous rejection in the new application?

It is not necessary to explicitly mention your previous rejection in the new application form. However, you can address the concerns raised in the rejection letter through a cover letter, providing an explanation of the steps taken to rectify the issues.

Can I seek professional assistance for my visa reapplication?

Yes, seeking professional assistance from an immigration consultant or visa specialist can be beneficial, especially if you have faced multiple rejections or if you want expert guidance throughout the reapplication process. They can assess your case, provide personalized advice, and increase your chances of a successful visa application.

Remember to consult with the respective Malaysian embassy/consulate or seek professional assistance for accurate and up-to-date information regarding the visa reapplication process.

Can someone tell me, after rejection, can I apply again or do I have to scrap my plans?

This time I'm going directly to the counselate (for obvious reasons).

malaysia tourist visa rejection reasons

HI rbdoshi123,

Sorry to hear about your EVISA rejection. My family in India also is going through the same dilemma to opt between VFS (Double the charges + 95% success rate) or to re-apply online (cheaper option + 25 USD gambling bet)

With regards to this issue, my first experience with Online Chat officer, Mr.XYZ (last Friday) was bit frustrating as he was typing all the pre-drafted scripts with the literal meaning "HE / NOBODY CAN HELP ON THIS MATTER and AUTHORITIES HAVE RIGHTS NOT TO DISCLOSE REJECTION REASON". Expecting better assistance, I even tried sharing the application details and copies of the uploaded documents on which he simply responded that "HE DON'T SEE ANY DISCREPANCY AND UNABLE TO ASSIST ON THIS MATTER BLAH BLAH..."

So before trying on our luck, today we thought of doing 2nd round of chat to dig into more information which we / chat officer might have missed during our first chat. Today we were lucky to have sensible officer who initially tried to convince us (part of training I guess) with the same copy pasted scripts (rule book + disclaimers) but after giving some hard (harsh) words & customer experience Gyan, he finally offered his assistance view the uploaded documents. After 3 minutes of waiting, he came up with the discrepancy points which gave us some hope on re-application success

As per Customer Officer rep, what we missed is as follows :

1) Passport copies - Round edges of passport page is not visible (please re-scan and upload again)

2) Photo Specification - Visible face missing 1 or 2 mm alignment (follow website instruction)

By the way, I forgot to mention that we applied 5 applications together (all 5 tourists travelling together & from the same family).

The set of uploaded documents and specification used were exactly the same (at least 99%) but out of 5 only 1 got rejected. On this claim, the CS officer preferred to be silent and asked me "DO YOU NEED ANY MORE ASSISTANCE" on which I replied thank you and he disconnected the chat window.

Though we are still not confident on the findings, but we are planning to give a try with specification corrected set of documents, Hope this time it will go through (without any ghost reason). Will shortly update you on the success or failure.

In your case also, I would advise you to try a few rounds of chat with different officers and also share the set of information + uploaded documents for their review (you can drag & drop image files into the chat window). With this you may find out / guess the exact reason which you might have missed while doing the upload.

Best of luck & keep writing

Did you went to embrassy... how did you managed to get the visa..

' class=

There’s light at the end of the tunnel  Got the visa.

After much deliberation we decided to take our chance once more with the eVisa process. But this time we did take help of live chat, although that was helpful only in parts. They seem to have a standard reply for each question. Kind of like a call centre. So, you have to be a lot more specific in order to be certain that you get the answer you are looking for.

I don’t know what exactly worked the 2nd time, but we did a few things differently, so I guess it should be one of that.

1. We were extra careful to crop the passport pic slightly lesser so that the edges were more clearly visible (kind of like a 3D shadow effect)

3. And we added cover letter in the “others” section, explaining anything that we could think of (like why our passport address & current address is not the same etc)

Phew!! What a relief. We still don’t know what went wrong, but it seems a lot of people are facing this problem of late. In a fit of anxiety we even approached a travel agent after first rejection and even she said, she cannot guarantee Malaysian visa coz 8 of her last 10 visas applications have been rejected. The worst part is you don’t get to know the reason for rejection which espouses the feeling of being cheated. If Malaysian authorities can be kind enough to give reason that would truly help.

Anyway all’s well that ends well. Hope this forum helps future applicants.

Special thanks to PaperStoneScissors who was kind enough to dig out old forum thread on the subject for us.

malaysia tourist visa rejection reasons

Even my Malaysian Visa was rejected without any reason being mentioned.

@rishabh_mulani

did you reapply and was your application accepted the second time?

Hi we are a family of 4 (including my mother in law and 3 year old daughter and my husband )

So far my husband visa has been rejected (no reason being given )

And I have been called for an interview ... did anyone else have to do the same ???

What happened at the interview? What documents did you take along?

Even I have been called for an interview for some reason!

OP comes in here and throws a tantrum and then finds fault with those who try to help anyway. Jeez! (Maybe the consulate guessed what kind of person he is and rejected the visa ;-)

Anyway, for those sharing the same predicament here are some answers.

(a) My visa got rejected the first time. No reason was given. I asked on chat and they said they won't know the reason and gave me a list of "possible reasons" which were all generic stuff

I asked him if that was the only reason and he said yes.

c) I reapplied this time with the additional document. The visa was approved

d) Here is another trick. If you're applying for more than one person, apply for one person first, and if all goes well, apply for the rest. That way you lose fee for only one application, and you have a chance to identify and correct any issues. That's what I did when i applied for my family.

e) I found the consulate very helpful. For special circumstances, call them beforehand and ask for advice. Eg: My family was going to enter Malaysia from Singapore by road, so they did not have an entry ticket to show. The consulate advised: no problem, just write a note in the tickets document that they will enter by car or bus and we'll be arranging those tickets only later. Their eVisa was accepted.

f) I used the "other documents" section to upload a cover letter. Useful to explain your travel itinerary particularly if you have a complex one. Not sure if that made any difference though.

f) The evisa service is great. A bit finicky but which other country gives an evisa in 24 hours with 24-hour chat support?

Good luck everyone.

I have a few questions about what should I do next.

1. Should I apply for eVisa again? Apart for including flight tickets for round trip, what other precautions should I take?

2. I could opt for VOA since Indians travelling from Singapore are eligible. Has any one went for VOA at Langkawi airport? How is the experience? Can VOA be rejected?

3. There is a requirement of showing 500USD or equivalent credit/debit card. I don't want to carry cash. How do I prove to them that my credit/debit card is equivalent to 500 USD? Should I carry a latest statement?

Note: Slightly different topic but I thought this might be helpful for anyone facing issue with uploading photo in eVisa application. My wife and I had our photos takes at the same studio and they were soft copies(not scanned). My photo was accepted without any edit but I could not get my wife's photo uploaded so easily. I tried resizing a 100 times but didn't work. Live chat could not help either. Then I tried increasing the contrast and brightness of the photo and it was accepted without any resizing.

Check Malaysia Visa Status

4w_m_landing_page.svg

Malaysia, a vibrant Southeast Asian country, is renowned for its rich culture, beautiful landscapes, and modern cities. It is a popular destination for tourists seeking diverse experiences, ranging from exploring bustling markets and historic sites to enjoying pristine beaches and lush rainforests.

To facilitate travel to this dynamic nation, Malaysia offers various visa options catering to different types of travellers. Understanding Malaysia's visa policies is crucial for those planning a visit.

This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Malaysia's visa options and the process of checking the Malaysia visa application status, ensuring travellers are well-informed for a smooth and enjoyable visit to Malaysia.

What is Malaysia's Visa Status?

Malaysia's visa status refers to the current condition of a visa application made for entering Malaysia. By checking this status, applicants can find out whether their visa application has been approved, rejected, or is still pending.

This information is crucial as it enables individuals to make informed decisions regarding their travel plans to Malaysia. The process typically involves using an online portal, where applicants enter relevant details, such as their passport number, to view the status of their visa application.

The outcome displayed on the portal can be an approval, indicating that Malaysian authorities have accepted the application, a rejection if the application does not meet the criteria, or a pending status if the application is still under review. The duration for processing a Malaysian visa can vary depending on the type of visa applied for.

Types of Malaysia Visa for Indian Citizens

Malaysia offers a range of visa options to accommodate the diverse needs of Indian citizens travelling to the country. Different types are as detailed below:

Tourist Visa: This visa is designed for Indian citizens travelling to Malaysia for leisure, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends. It allows tourists to experience the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Malaysia.

Business Visa: Aimed at individuals visiting Malaysia for business-related activities such as meetings, conferences, or business negotiations. This visa does not permit employment in Malaysia.

Conference Visa: Although not a separate category in Malaysia, individuals attending conferences may apply for a business visa, which covers participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Medical Visa: It is for those seeking medical treatment in Malaysia's healthcare facilities. It is designed for patients who require medical attention in Malaysia.

Medical Attendant Visa: This type of visa would be applicable to family members or attendants accompanying a patient travelling to Malaysia for medical reasons.

It is important to note that visa-on-arrival countries for Indians are only eligible when they enter Malaysia via one of the third countries like Thailand, Singapore or Indonesia.

How to Check Malaysia Visa Status Online?

For a Malaysia visa online check, there are a few methods you can use. These methods are convenient and provide up-to-date information regarding the status of your visa application. Here is a step-by-step guide for each method:

Using the Official Malaysia Visa Website

Below are the steps for a Malaysia visa status check online:

Visit the Official Malaysia Visa Website: This is the primary site for all visa-related services.

Find the Visa Status Section: Look for a link or section labelled something like “Check Visa Status.”

Enter Your Application Details: You will typically need to enter your visa application number and passport number.

Submit Your Query: After entering the required information, submit your query to view the status of your visa application.

View Visa Status: The status displayed will inform you if your visa is approved, pending, or rejected.

Using the eVisa Portal for Malaysia E-Visa Check

Access the Malaysia eVisa Portal: This portal is specifically for those who have applied for an e-Visa.

Login: Enter your registration details, such as your email ID and password.

Navigate to the Application Section: Once logged in, go to the section where you can view your submitted applications.

Check the Status: Here, you will find the Malaysia e-visa status.

Additional Notes

Prepare Necessary Information: Before you start the process, make sure you have all the necessary information handy, such as your passport number, application reference number, and any other required details.

Check Regularly: If your application is still under processing, you might want to check the status regularly.

Official Websites Only: Always use official government websites for accurate and secure information.

How to Check Malaysia Visa Application Status Offline?

The Malaysia visa tracking offline involves a few steps that require direct communication with relevant authorities. Here is how you can do it:

Visit the Nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate: One of the most straightforward methods is to visit the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in your country. It is advisable first to check their operating hours and whether you need an appointment.

Inquire via Phone Call: If visiting in person is not feasible, you can call the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate. Be ready with your application details like passport number and application reference number, as they will likely ask for this information to check your visa status.

Submit a Written Inquiry: Another option is to write a letter to the Embassy or Consulate requesting an update on your visa status. Include all necessary details of your application and a return address or contact information for them to send the response.

Check with Your Visa Application Center: If you applied through a visa application centre or a travel agency, you could contact them directly. They can provide updates on the status of your application or guide you on how to obtain this information.

Regardless of the method you choose, ensure you have all relevant information about your application handy. This includes your full name as it appears on the passport, passport number, application reference number, and the date you submitted your application.

How to Track Malaysia Visa Status Using Passport Number?

Malaysia visa check online by passport number is typically done through the official online portals provided by the Malaysian government. One would need to follow the following steps:

Visit the official visa-checking website provided by the Malaysian government or the eVisa portal, depending on where you applied for your visa.

On the website, look for the section where you can check the visa status. This is usually labelled as “Check Visa Status” or something similar.

In the required field, enter your passport number. Ensure that you enter the number accurately to avoid any errors.

Some portals may require additional information, such as your visa application number or date of birth, for verification purposes.

After entering the necessary details, submit your query to retrieve the status of your visa application.

The portal will display the status of your Malaysia visa application. It will indicate whether your visa has been approved, is still under processing, or has been rejected.

Common Reasons For Malaysia Visa Rejection

When applying for a Malaysia visa, it is important to be aware of common reasons for visa rejection. Understanding these reasons can help you avoid mistakes in your application and increase your chances of approval. Here are some common reasons for Malaysia visa rejections:

Incomplete Application or Documentation:

Failing to provide all the required documents or leaving sections of the visa application form blank can lead to rejection. Every question on the form should be answered accurately, and all necessary documents must be submitted.

Insufficient Funds:

Proof of sufficient funds is required to ensure that you can sustain yourself during your stay in Malaysia. If you are unable to demonstrate that you have enough money to cover your expenses, your visa may be rejected.

Invalid or Damaged Passport:

A passport that is in poor condition, has less than six months of validity remaining, or lacks blank pages can be grounds for visa rejection. Your passport must be in good condition and valid for a specified period beyond your intended stay in Malaysia.

Unclear Purpose of Visit:

If the visa officers are not convinced about the purpose of your visit or if the purpose is not clear from your application, this can lead to rejection. Whether it is for tourism, business, or study, your intention to visit Malaysia should be clearly stated and supported with relevant documents.

Previous Immigration or Legal Issues:

If you have a history of overstaying or violating visa conditions in Malaysia or other countries, it can negatively impact your current application.

Incomplete Travel Itinerary:

Not providing a clear travel itinerary, including details of your return ticket, accommodation, and plans in Malaysia, may lead to doubts about your intentions and result in visa rejection.

Lack of Ties to Home Country:

Visa officers assess if applicants have strong reasons to return to their home country after visiting Malaysia. Lack of evidence showing strong ties (like employment, family, or property) can lead to rejection.

Health Concerns:

In some cases, health issues that pose a public health risk or require extensive treatment can be a reason for visa denial.

Errors in Application:

Any discrepancies or errors in your visa application or supporting documents can lead to a rejection. The information provided should be consistent and accurate.

Travel History:

A lack of travel history or previous visa rejections can sometimes impact the decision, although this is not always a deciding factor.

What to Do if Your Malaysia Visa Application Status is Rejected?

Here is what you can do when your visa application status shows rejected:

Understand why your visa was rejected by reviewing the details in the notice.

If the rejection is due to errors or missing information, correct these in a new application.

You can reapply for the visa after addressing the issues that led to the initial rejection.

If you believe the rejection was incorrect, you may appeal the decision through the official channels.

Consult the Malaysian Embassy, Consulate, or a professional visa consultant for guidance.

Visa processes can be complex, so be patient and thoroughly prepare for reapplication or appeal.

The most common reasons for visa rejections and how to avoid them

The most common reasons for visa rejections and how to avoid them

While fortunate travelers can travel to international destinations with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access, many others must obtain a visa before traveling to a foreign country. Visas allow travelers to enter another country lawfully and stay there for a set period of time. While obtaining a visa is usually straightforward and doable, there are instances where visas get rejected. Visa rejections can be a major issue for travelers, resulting in delayed plans, financial loss, emotional turmoil, and other setbacks. It could also impact work or business opportunities. This article will review some common reasons that visas get rejected and some strategies for travelers to increase their chances of getting their visas approved.

Common reasons for visa rejections

There are several reasons why the immigration authorities may reject a visa application. Errors can occur during the visa application process, or the applicant may not meet the entry standards of the visa issuing country. The following are some of the most common visa rejection reasons:

  • Missing or incorrect information or documentation:

Providing incorrect or inaccurate information or documentation is the most common visa rejection reason. This could include accidental errors while filling out paperwork or failing to include an important document in the application file. Visa applications are often straightforward but require applicants to be meticulous and follow the steps precisely.

  • Insufficient financial proof:

Many countries require visa applicants to show proof that they can support themselves financially for their stay. Not having sufficient funds to cover the duration of the visit is a valid visa rejection reason. Immigration authorities must ensure that the applicant will be self-sufficient while traveling and have the means to return to their country.

  • Possessing a criminal record:

Possessing a criminal record can also be a visa rejection reason. This is especially true if the traveler has a history of serious crimes. Immigration authorities are particularly vigilant of repeat offenders and those charged with terrorist activity or drug trafficking.

  • Passport validity:

A visa may be rejected if the applicant does not have a valid passport or identity document to travel with. Many visas require the passport to be valid for a period of time after the intended travel dates. Visas can also be rejected if applicants do not provide a passport with sufficient blank pages.

  • Lack of travel itinerary or clear travel purpose:

In some cases, a visa might be rejected if the applicant fails to provide a clear and detailed travel itinerary or purpose of travel. This is especially true for tourist visas requiring applicants to prove they do not plan to overstay their visa or work illegally.

  • Previous immigration violations:

Applicants who previously violated immigration laws or overstayed a visa are more likely to have their visa application rejected. Immigration authorities must ensure all travelers abide by the laws and are wary of anyone more likely to break those laws.

Awareness of and understanding common visa refusal reasons can help travelers avoid any issues with processing their application while increasing their chances of obtaining the visa to their intended destination.

Tips to avoid visa rejections

Tips to avoid visa rejections

The good news is that most travelers can take practical steps to prepare their visa application and avoid any unexpected visa rejection reason. Of course, a visa decision depends on several factors and will be different for each applicant depending on their situation, nationality, and reason for travel. However, most applicants can follow these tips to obtain an approval and receive their visa without any issues:

  • Carefully review the application requirements and ensure all documents are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Verify all the passport or identity document the applicant plans to travel with is up-to-date and will remain valid for as long as necessary for the particular visa they seek to obtain. Visas will require different validity periods for travel documents, so it is essential to research these requirements before applying.
  • All passports must have enough blank pages to place a sticker visa, if applicable. If applying manually, applicants must remember to check the number of available pages in their passports.
  • Ensure sufficient financial proof to cover the entire stay. Proof of this might include bank statements, a reference letter from an employer, pay stubs, or other financial documents.
  • Present criminal records transparently. They should provide a clear explanation of any listed crimes and explain steps they are taking towards rehabilitation or improving their circumstances, if applicable.
  • Apply for the visa well in advance to allow sufficient processing time and avoid last-minute issues that might cause delays.
  • Do not provide false or misleading information that could result in a visa rejection or complicate future travel.
  • If necessary, visa applicants should seek professional assistance to help them with the application process.

Case studies of visa rejections

Over the years, several cases of visa rejections have demonstrated the importance of following the advice and tips provided above. The following are real-world case studies in which applicants were not permitted to travel due to a visa rejection.

  • In 2018, due to the omission of a letter of invitation from a Vietnamese sponsor, a group of Australian tourists had their visa requests to visit Vietnam rejected. This is a typical prerequisite for Vietnam visa applications. The passengers may have learned about this requirement and acquired the required paperwork before submitting their visa applications if they had sought the advice of visa consultants or immigration lawyers.
  • In 2019, a group of Indian students who applied for a visa to study in Canada were denied because they did not provide enough evidence of their financial requirements. They could have avoided the visa rejection if they had complied with the advice to submit extensive financial documentation, such as bank statements and income tax returns.
  • In 2020, a Pakistani businessman attempted to travel to the United States for a business meeting, but his visa application was rejected for lack of supporting evidence. The applicant should have submitted supporting records, such as financial accounts, identification, or a thorough travel itinerary. The applicant could have prevented the visa rejection if he had heeded the advice to carefully check the application requirements and verify that all documents are complete and up-to-date.

To avoid these situations, travelers should be mindful of common visa refusal reasons and follow the helpful pointers and guidance above. This includes carefully assembling documentation, supplying adequate financial proof, and dealing with criminal histories openly and transparently. Visa applicants should know the value of applying early, enlisting expert assistance, and maintaining honesty throughout the application process. Following these guidelines will improve all applicants’ chances of getting a visa and having a successful international travel to the destination of their choice.

6 common reasons why most visas are rejected

malaysia tourist visa rejection reasons

Applying for a visa can be a nerve-wracking process, and unfortunately, many applicants even face rejection for various reasons.

Understanding certain common mistakes can help you avoid them and increase your chances of a successful visa application.

Here are six common reasons why most visas are rejected :

1. Incomplete application

One of the most frequent reasons for visa rejection is an incomplete application. This could include missing documents, unanswered questions, or failure to provide necessary information. It’s crucial to carefully read and follow the visa application instructions to ensure all required documents and details are included.

2. Rule violations

It might surprise you that many visa rejections occur due to applicants failing to adhere to the rules and regulations set by the immigration authorities. This could include providing false information, attempting to manipulate the system, or violating visa policies. Any discrepancies in your application can lead to immediate rejection.

3. Incomplete travel details

Insufficient travel details, such as vague itineraries or unclear plans, can raise red flags during the visa application process. Immigration officers need to know where you’ll be staying, how long you’ll be there, and your intended activities. Providing detailed and accurate travel plans can help demonstrate your purpose of visit and increase your chances of approval.

4. Purpose of travel not known

Failing to clearly articulate your purpose of travel is another common reason for visa rejection. Whether you’re visiting for tourism, business, education, or family reasons, it’s essential to provide compelling reasons and supporting documents to justify your trip. Ambiguity or lack of clarity regarding your intentions can lead to doubts about your credibility and result in rejection.

5. Issues with passport

Problems with your passport, such as expiration, damage, or lack of blank pages, can also lead to visa rejection. Ensure your passport meets all the requirements specified by the immigration authorities, including validity for the duration of your intended stay and at least two blank pages for visa stamps. Failure to comply with passport regulations can result in immediate refusal.

6. Insufficient funds

If you are unable to show or provide proof of adequate financial means to support your trip, you might land in some trouble. Immigration authorities want assurance that you can cover your expenses during your stay and are not likely to overstay or engage in unauthorized employment. Providing bank statements, proof of income, or sponsorship letters can help substantiate your financial stability and increase your chances of visa approval.

Malaysia Student Visa Rejection (Refusal) Reasons in 2024

In 2024, the Malaysian Immigration Department outlined various reasons for the rejection of a student visa application.

This article aims to provide potential applicants with these reasons to help them successfully navigate the application process.

What Is The Malaysia Student Visa?

The Malaysian student visa, also known as a student pass, is a prerequisite for every foreign student wishing to study in Malaysia.

Despite the country’s welcoming stance on international students, there’s still a possibility of visa rejection if applicants fail to meet specific criteria or overlook certain details during the application process.

Understanding these reasons can help future applicants to minimize their risk of rejection.

6 Reasons for The Malaysia Student Visa Rejection

Incomplete or incorrect application.

One of the main reasons for visa rejection is the submission of incomplete or incorrect applications. All fields of the visa application form must be accurately filled, and all required documents must be provided.

Failing to do so can lead to an outright rejection. For instance, not including an acceptance letter from a recognized Malaysian educational institution can result in application denial.

Insufficient Financial Resources

The Malaysian Immigration Department needs to ascertain that foreign students can support themselves financially throughout their study period in Malaysia. An applicant needs to provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and living costs.

If the department deems the provided evidence as insufficient or unreliable, the application could be rejected.

Lack of Health Clearance

Foreign students applying for a Malaysian student visa must undergo specific health checks, including tests for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, and HIV/AIDS.

The results of these tests are then assessed by the Immigration Department’s panel of doctors. If an applicant fails to meet the required health standards, the visa application may be rejected.

Past Criminal Record

Malaysia has strict immigration laws and rules, especially regarding the applicant’s character assessment.

Applicants with a past criminal record or those who pose a potential threat to Malaysia’s national security might have their visa application rejected.

Poor Academic Records

Academic performance plays a crucial role in the visa application process. Students who have consistently poor academic records may face a higher likelihood of visa rejection.

The Immigration Department, along with the Ministry of Education, carefully scrutinizes the academic history of each applicant.

They consider consistent underperformance in academics as an indicator of the student’s non-serious attitude toward their studies.

Failure to Pass the Interview

Some applicants might be required to attend an interview with officers from the Malaysian embassy or consulate.

The purpose of this interview is to assess the credibility of the applicant’s intention to study in Malaysia. Failure to convince the interviewing officer can lead to visa rejection.

How To Appeal Against A Visa Rejection

If your Malaysia student visa is rejected, it may feel like the end of the world. But remember, it’s not necessarily the final decision. There is a process to appeal against the rejection. Here’s how it generally works:

The rejection letter issued by the Malaysian immigration authorities will usually provide the reasons for the refusal. It’s essential to understand these reasons clearly, as your appeal will need to address each of them.

The first step in the appeal process is to contact the educational institution you’re enrolled within Malaysia. They have the authority to appeal on behalf of the student.

Furnish them with all the necessary details and documents. Remember to include new supporting documents that could strengthen your appeal.

The university will then submit an appeal to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), which oversees the international student visa process. The EMGS will review the appeal and, if satisfied, forward it to the Immigration Department.

The final decision lies with the Immigration Department, and this process can take up to 1-2 months. It’s crucial to be patient during this period and keep communication open with your institution.

How To Avoid A Visa Rejection

Prevention is always better than cure. Here are some tips that might help avoid a visa rejection:

  • Ensure that all forms are filled out correctly and completely. Incomplete or incorrect information can lead to rejection.
  • Provide a clear and accurate financial proof. An unclear or insufficient financial background is a common cause of visa rejection. Make sure your bank statements or financial evidence show enough funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses in Malaysia.
  • Submit all the required documents, and ensure they are valid and up-to-date. Remember, all non-English documents should be translated into English.
  • Choose a recognized and accredited educational institution. Visas for non-accredited institutions may be denied.
  • If you have a medical condition, declare it honestly and provide all necessary medical documents.

Can I Reapply Immediately After My Malaysian Student Visa Is Rejected?

There is no mandatory waiting period for reapplying after a Malaysian Student Visa refusal. You can submit a new application at any time.

  • Addressing Refusal Reasons : In your new application, it’s important to address the reasons for the previous rejection. This may involve providing additional information or documentation that was lacking in the initial application.
  • Improved Application : Ensure that your new application resolves the issues highlighted in your rejection notice. Simply resubmitting the same application is unlikely to yield a different outcome.

If My Visa Is Rejected, Will the Application Fee Be Refunded?

Typically, the application fee for a Malaysian Student Visa is non-refundable. This applies even if the visa application is rejected.

  • Purpose of Fee : The fee is primarily for processing the application and not dependent on the outcome. It covers administrative costs incurred during the assessment of your application.
  • Budget Accordingly : Applicants should budget for the visa application fee as a non-recoverable cost when planning their studies in Malaysia.

What Is The Student Visa Renewal Process?

In Malaysia, you need to apply for a visa renewal 6 weeks before your current pass expires. The process is similar to your initial visa application. You need to submit an application via the EMGS website, including the necessary documents, and pay the required fees.

Required documents typically include a valid passport, recent passport-sized photos, academic transcripts, an attendance record, a letter of completion from your university, and proof of financial stability.

Once the application is submitted, it undergoes processing by the EMGS and the Immigration Department. If approved, you will be issued a new visa sticker.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can i avoid having my malaysia student visa application rejected.

The key to avoiding visa rejection is to follow all application guidelines strictly, provide complete and accurate information, submit all required documents, show sufficient financial proof, and choose an accredited institution for your studies.

Can I change my course of study or institution after my visa is approved?

Any change in your course of study or institution requires a new visa application and approval from the Immigration Department. Unauthorized changes may lead to cancellation of your visa.

Can my family members join me in Malaysia while I'm studying there?

Yes, family members can join students on a social visit visa. However, for longer stays, they may need to apply for a separate type of visa, like the Malaysia Long Term Social Visit Visa (LT-SVV). Always check the latest immigration rules.

How early should I apply for my student visa renewal?

It is recommended to apply for visa renewal at least 6 weeks before your current visa expires. This ensures that your new visa is processed in time to avoid overstaying.

What happens if I overstay my student visa in Malaysia?

Overstaying your visa is a serious offense and can lead to penalties such as fines, imprisonment, deportation, and future entry bans into Malaysia. Always ensure that your visa is valid and apply for a renewal in time.

Sachin's visa rejection in Premalu: Why does it happen?

 alt=

In the blockbuster movie ‘Premalu’, the visa application of its protagonist Sachin, played by Naslen, is rejected while his friend’s visa is approved. Sachin’s application was rejected stating that he didn’t have enough funds in his bank account. Most people tend to get worried about the hectic application process as soon as they decide to fly abroad. If rejected, it is indeed a hassle to repeat the same procedures. In such situations, not just time or money is wasted, but the stress may even lead to depression. These might be the six reasons why your visa may have been rejected.

Incomplete application In most cases, incomplete application is the main reason why visas get rejected. Failure to answer certain questions, submit certain documents or be unable to provide certain information may lead to rejection. So, you must be careful while filling out and submitting the application. Make sure that you have answered all the questions and submitted all the required documents and details.

Violation of immigration laws Giving wrong information or relying on fraudulent methods to mislead the system comes under the violation of immigration laws. Lack of clarity in the application too may lead to instant rejection.

Incomplete travel details You should provide clear and reliable details about your intention to visit. The immigration officers would question you about the place where you will be staying, the duration of the stay and the purpose of the visit. The applicant should be able to provide such information with clarity.

Intention of visit Visa could be rejected if the applicant is unable to clarify his/her intention to visit. Be it for tourism, business purposes or visiting family, you should mention that in the application. Documents that support your claim too should be submitted.

Problems with passport The passport details mentioned in the application should be correct. An expired passport, damaged passport or shortage of unstamped leaves too maybe some of the reasons for rejecting your application. Make sure that your passport fulfils all the requirements of the immigration department. There should at least be two plain leaves or pages for stamping the visa.

Insufficient funds Visa could be rejected if the applicant is unable to prove that he /she has the financial ability to support the travel. The immigration officers should be convinced that you have enough money to meet the expenses abroad. Besides, they should be assured that the applicant wouldn’t resort to illegal employment methods. Submitting bank statements, proof of income and sponsorship letters along with the application would prove your financial ability and increase the chance of visa approval.

How not to blow a part of your travel budget on visas

Data from Schengen Visa Info shows that about 18% of the total 671,928 applications for Schengen visa from India were rejected in 2022. (REUTERS)

  • Rejection of visas can impact your travel costs, especially when you have to cancel flight and hotel bookings.

Three months ago, Mumbai-based Devanshi Ashar was getting ready for her much awaited holiday in Europe. Her travel destination and itinerary had been planned months in advance, and the flight tickets and hotels booked. Ashar’s employer had also approved her leave! And then, disaster struck. Her Schengen visa application for France was rejected. She reapplied, but it was rejected again. Ashar says the reason given by the French embassy for rejecting the visa was vague. “The rejection letter said the reason for my travel was not justified. I’m not sure what that even means. The purpose of a tourist visa is tourism, so what more reasons do they need?" said Ashar, a research analyst and content strategist.

The visa rejection not only wrecked her travel plans but also cost her about ₹ 47,000 in visa costs and agent fees as well as the charges for cancellation of flight tickets and hotel bookings. To add to her woes, the travel insurance was non-refundable. Ashar’s monetary loss was equal to what she had paid for the round-trip flight tickets.

Ashar is not the only person whose Schengen visa application has been rejected thus far. Data from Schengen Visa Info shows that about 18% of the total 671,928 applications for Schengen visa (including tourist and business visas) from India were rejected in 2022. That year, India had the third largest number of Schengen visa applications among 167 countries.

To be sure, visa rejections are not limited to Schengen states—an area encompassing 29 European countries that have officially abolished border controls at their mutual borders. The application process for most western countries, too, carry stringent entry restrictions and involve heavy and cumbersome paperwork. In 2023, about 10% of the total applications for US B-visas made by Indian citizens were rejected, as per data from The US Department of State. Moreover, tourist visas for the US also have seen tediously long waiting periods, which add to the travel woes of applicants. Currently, the slot for a US B2 visa is available only next year.

So, if you are gearing up to plan the perfect summer vacation overseas this upcoming season, you will need to carefully study the visa process involved before zeroing in on the country you want to visit.

Consider costs holistically

Visa fees for western countries are quite steep. For instance, Turkey demands the highest fee of ₹ 17,500 per traveller. US and UK are next in line, with ₹ 15,540 and ₹ 12,600 fee per person, respectively. Fees for most Schengen countries range between ₹ 6,500 and ₹ 7,500. There are other costs as well.

The total amount you pay to get a visa typically includes the visa fee charged by the respective country’s embassy, service fee charged by the Visa Application Centres (VACs), including the likes of VFS Global, BLS International or Gateway Visa Services, mandatory travel insurance and other ancillary expenses like appointment fee, convenience fee, passport courier service charges, etc.

For instance, the visa fee for France is ₹ 7,100. VFS Global, the visa outsourcing company that processes Schengen visas, charges a service fee of about ₹ 1,825 and a convenience fee of ₹ 150. The total visa process fee comes to at least ₹ 9,000 per adult. So, a family of four can expect to lose about ₹ 40,000 if the visas are rejected.

Optional services, like premium lounge, courier services, printing at the centre or collection of documents from home, among others, add to the total cost.

Moreover, most countries also ask for confirmed air tickets and hotel bookings as part of the visa application process. If you book a non-refundable ticket, you stand to lose the entire airfare in case of visa rejection. To protect against the risk of rejection, you can consider booking refundable tickets, which can cost 15-20% more. For instance, Ashar had paid 15% higher on refundable air tickets. So, she got a refund after the cancellation fees was deducted.

Take note that the convenience fee charged by a VAC is approved by respective governments.

“The VFS Global service fee is duly approved by governments as per contractual agreements. For example, in the case of Schengen countries, the service fee for short stay visas can go up to a maximum of €40 (approximately ₹ 3,500) as per the EU visa code regulation. The service fee is different for each country according to what governments approve," a VFS Global spokesperson said in an interaction with Mint.

Visa rejection risk and long waiting periods are typically prevalent where applications to Western countries are concerned. Experts advise that prospective travellers should plan in advance, especially in the case of Schengen visas because the peak travel season for Europe is approaching. “Slots for France, Spain, Netherlands and other countries—where the visa approval rates are higher and are available within a month— are filling up fast," said Priyesh Sharma, a travel consultant with expertise in Schengen and Canadian visas.

Yudhbir Singh, director-owner, Trimax International, a visa assistance provider, recommends that people apply for visas at least four months in advance. “The processing time across countries is not standard and can take about a month in some cases. Moreover, applying early for the visa will help as it will leave room to reapply in case of rejection or withdraw and apply again if there are delays," he said.

To increase approval chances, you should carefully read the instructions before your biometric appointment date and carry all the required documents. Going through an agent may help, especially for those who are short on time or are applying for the first time as these agents are aware of the reasons that lead to approvals or rejections and can clearly inform you on the hygiene practices to follow. “Small details like what to include in the cover letter or the minimum balance to show in the bank account can influence the approval chances," said Nikita Dresswala, founder, Teleport, a tech platform that simplifies visa applications.

Agents typically charge ₹ 500-5,000 for basic services like sorting the right documents, providing guidance on the cover letter, submitting the application at the embassy, etc. This small premium can help you save on the many ancillary charges that are slapped at the centre if one is not well informed. “People are typically anxious for Schengen and US visas as these involve a lot of paperwork. For instance, the UK may reject a visa request if the applicant’s bank account statements show sudden withdrawals or deposits. If we notice such activity while reviewing documents, we ask the applicant to explain such transactions in the cover letter so that it doesn’t affect visa approval," said Dresswala.

Sharma pointed out that some agents charge a higher premium of about ₹ 10,000-20,000 and get an early appointment slot. But, travellers should not confuse this with a guaranteed visa. “No agent can guarantee a visa, so don’t fall for that pitch and end up paying through your nose."

If your application gets rejected, Singh advises that the traveller must apply again. “Rejections don’t have a bearing on future applications as long as the rejection is not done on the account of fake documents and misleading information."

Look at easier options

Several countries, including Thailand, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, have lately waived off visa fees for Indian citizens. In some cases, like in Kenya and Malaysia, you have to register online before travelling, and the application gets processed in one day, whereas for Mauritius, Maldives and Sri Lanka, you get free-of-cost visa-on-arrival. You may consider these countries to avoid the hassle of taxing visa processes and expensive fees.

Other countries that follow an entirely online visa process, like Singapore, Egypt and Indonesia, among others, are also good alternatives with cheaper visa fee and shorter processing period.

Common reasons of Dubai visa cancellation in 2024

Million of tourist come to dubai every year and millions of visa rejcted. it is mandatory to understand the reason behind it before your application to avoid visa rejection in 2024..

admin

Dubai is a famous city in the world where millions of people come every year for work, business or tourism. There is something in Dubai that makes people like to come here again and again. Be it skyscrapers, tourist places , high profile corporate offices, excellent law, or mutual relations. Since Dubai is famous for its tourist destinations all over the world, a large number of tourists come here.

People coming to Dubai need a visa. Since Dubai’s visa policy is very simple and good. Still, if your visa gets approved successfully in the first attempt, then you are lucky. Even many travellers do not get the visa despite making mistakes again and again and cancel their visit. So today we will tell you about the common mistakes made in Dubai visa applications .

The visa for a lady of less than 25 years old may be rejected or delayed, if she is travelling alone. You may name it one of the strange laws of this Muslim country or any aspect of which unfortunate part you are. But Dubai allows a lady below 25 years old with only parents or relatives.

Some Common reasons behind every Dubai visa rejection.

Typing error in visa application.

If you make any typo error in your form like spelling of name, profession, date of birth, passport number, ID number, address or other information. There is a huge chance of rejection or delay of your visa application.

So be aware during your visa application and carefully check data before submission.

Blurred copies of Photo scan

Blurred images of passport copies, photos or other documents can hide your identity or make your form incomplete. If there are any lines or shadows in your passport copy, your visa can be rejected or delayed. Also, the photo must meet the Dubai visa photo requirements when you apply for the visa.

handwritten copies of passport by nationality

Ensuring the validity and authenticity of your passport is crucial when seeking approval for a Dubai visa. If you possess a handwritten passport, it’s easy to overlook this requirement and risk being denied entry into Dubai. Moreover, handwritten passports from countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and others in Asia are often rejected by UAE immigration authorities.

Applicant with past criminal record in UAE

Dubai is a strict country that strongly condemns crime and criminals. If you have already committed a crime or you are hiding a crime, Dubai will cancel your visa and can also blacklist you.

Unskilled Labour

If you have applied for a visa for employment and are showing yourself as a farmer or labourer, then Dubai can reject your visa. Because Dubai gives preference to skilled persons. Therefore, you should choose the right profession while applying for a Dubai visa.

Similar Identity

If during visa application, more than one application is found with the same name, photo, documents, date of birth or address then Dubai authorities may hold or reject your visa application for a long period of time.

An active visa holder

If you already have another visa to UAE on which you have not travelled, you cannot apply for a new visa unless your previous visa has been cancelled. Your visa is valid for 60 days which can be cancelled by your sponsor or employer at the immigration office. A valid visa is always a bar to a new visa.

Residents of UAE who left without cancelling their visa

If you’ve been living in the UAE with a resident visa but left the country without cancelling your visa, your new visa application might face rejection unless you terminate your previous residence visa. Contact UAE immigration to initiate the cancellation process.

Rejection of a visa can waste both your time and money. Which is impossible to compensate for. Hence, we talked about some common reasons. So that you can reduce your visa rejection.
