How to Move the iPhone Safari Search Bar Back to the Top in iOS

Long-time iPhone users may not prefer Safari's bottom address bar introduced in iOS 15, but Apple offers a quick and easy solution.

The Safari search bar was near the top of the iPhone's screen for the longest time. But starting with iOS 15, Apple moved the search bar to the bottom, making it easily accessible on big iPhones. Plus, the addition of an effortless swipe gesture even made it easy to switch tabs.

However, if you do not like the bottom placement of the tab bar, there is a way to move the Safari search bar back to the top of your iPhone. Here, we've listed the steps to help you do that.

Two Ways to Get Back the Old Safari Search Bar on iPhone

Modern versions of iOS offer two ways to move the address bar to the top and improve your Safari experience on an iPhone . The first is from within the Safari app, while the second involves using the iPhone Settings app. We've detailed both ways to move the Safari search bar on your iPhone to the top below:

1. Move the Safari Search Bar to the Top Directly in Safari

This is the more convenient method, as you can do it straight from the browser:

  • Visit any website in Safari on your iPhone.
  • Tap AA located on the left of your address bar.
  • Now, choose Show Top Address Bar . Instantly, the search bar will move to the top and stay like this.

From iOS 15 Safari Bottom Search Bar tap AA

Even if you close Safari and relaunch it, the address bar will stay at the top, making this a quick and easy way to switch its position.

2. Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top From Settings

This is the usual method to find all Safari-related settings in one place. You can also use the option here to move the Safari search bar back to the top:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap Safari .
  • Under Tabs, select Single Tab .
  • Now, open Safari, and you'll find the search bar at the top.

In iOS 15 Settings tap Safari

How to Switch Back to the Bottom Safari Search Bar

If you change your mind or wish to give Safari's bottom address bar a try, here's how to switch back and use the tab bar:

  • When you are inside Safari, tap AA from the top-left.
  • Tap on Show Bottom Tab Bar .
  • Alternatively, you may go to Settings > Safari and select Tab Bar .

Enjoy seamlessly switching between multiple tabs and better one-handed usage with Safari's tab bar.

What Is the Landscape Tab Bar Option in Safari's Settings?

Inside Safari Settings on an iPhone running iOS 15 or later, you'll see an option called Landscape Tab Bar , which is enabled by default. When you rotate the iPhone in landscape mode and use Safari, you will see all the open tabs on the top, just like you would on a computer browser.

When this particular option is off, this thin strip showing your open tabs is absent. Look at the image below to understand the difference. You may want to keep this enabled for better tab management.

Apple's Safari Redesign for Bigger iPhones

iPhone screens are increasing in size. As a result, most people have trouble reaching the top search bar when using an iPhone one-handed. But this redesign to move the Safari search bar to the bottom of the screen aims to fix that problem. Plus, this change introduces the tab bar, which is quite handy.

However, it's nice to see Apple give long-time iPhone users the option to move the address bar back to the top in case they prefer the old-school look and feel of Safari on the iPhone.

Safari: How to Get Search Bar Back to the Top & Disable Landscape Tab View

how to change safari search bar position

With iOS 15 Safari, the app has a whole new layout which brings many updates to the way you browse in the app. In Safari, the address bar is now located at the bottom of your iPhone screen, and in landscape orientation tabs will now appear in a list across the top. If you find these updates inconvenient and want to revert to the previous iOS 14 Safari layout, we'll show you how!

Move Address Bar to the Top of Safari

Remove the tab bar from safari landscape view.

Moving the search bar to the bottom of the screen has been one of the biggest changes to Safari in iOS 15. Luckily, if you don't like this change, you can switch it back! Safari now has two tab modes: Single Tab and Tab Bar. With Single Tab mode, your Apple address bar is displayed at the top of Safari and you must tap the tab icon to switch between tabs. With the Tab Bar mode, your URL address bar is displayed at the bottom, and you can swipe between open Safari tabs. Below, we'll cover how to get the URL bar back to the top of the page in Safari.

How to Move Address Bar to the Top in Safari (Shortcut)

Perhaps you find yourself accidentally swiping between tabs or you find it disorienting to have the URL bar at the bottom of your screen. Whatever your reason, this is the fastest way to switch into Single Tab mode and move the search bar to the top of Safari while browsing.

Now your Apple search bar will be displayed at the top of the screen. If you ever change your mind and want to revert back to the Tab Bar mode (being able to swipe between tabs is pretty handy!), follow the steps above and tap Show Bottom Tab Bar.

How to Place the Website Search Bar at the Top in Settings

This is a different method to adjust the same setting shown in the shortcut above. Below, we'll cover how to move your iPhone or iPad search bar to the top in Settings.

how to change safari search bar position

The landscape tab bar in Safari displays open tabs across the top of your screen and allows you to tap and switch between them, much the same way you would on your laptop. This is a handy update, as it means you no longer have to tap the Tab icon to switch tabs while browsing in landscape view. However, if you feel the landscape tab bar is crowding your screen and cramping your style, you can disable this feature:

How To : Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top of the Screen in iOS 15

Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top of the Screen in iOS 15

Some of the new features in iOS 15 take some getting used to, and the biggest one of those is Safari's relocated search bar, aka address bar. There are more than a few reasons why it's a jarring change, but the good news is that you can return Safari's search bar to its pre-iOS 15 position at the top of the screen.

My muscle memory still has my fingers tapping the top of the screen, which does nothing but unhides the search bar at the bottom. But there are bigger issues than that to point out, primarily, how you open up Private Browsing Mode now.

On iOS 14 and under, to open a new private tab from within Safari , you'd tap the tabs button, hit "Private," then tap the plus (+) sign. On iOS 15 and later, when you tap the tabs button, you'll see the current number of tabs open — tap that, then select "Private," and tap the plus (+) sign to get a new private tab. It's one extra step, and that's enough to annoy most people.

  • More Info: How to Open a New Private Tab in iOS 15's Updated Safari Design

Apple still has the shortcut to open a new private tab, where you long-press the tabs button and hit "New Private Tab," so it's not all bad. It even has a faster way to access Private Browsing Mode in general, where you long-press the tabs icon and tap "Private," which jumps you right to your last-used private tab. That's two steps compared to iOS 14's three (tabs icon –> "Private" –> "Done").

If you can get used to the search bar at the bottom of Safari, it's worth keeping it there since you can quickly swipe left or right on the new Tab Bar to switch between your open tabs. And it's good placement if you tend to browse the web one-handed. But if you want to go back to the old way of doing things, moving the search bar to the top of your iPhone is easy to do.

Method 1: Switch in Safari Directly

Open the Page Settings menu (previously called the "View" or actions menu) by tapping the "AA" in the search bar. You won't see it on a new blank tab, so make sure it's a tab with a webpage already opened. In the menu, tap "Show Top Address Bar," and everything returns to normal.

How to Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top of the Screen in iOS 15

If you ever want to switch back, do the same thing but tap "Show Bottom Tab Bar" instead.

How to Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top of the Screen in iOS 15

There is no option for this in the Page Settings menu when you're in landscape mode, but that's not as bothersome since the search bar is still at the top, only with the Tab Bar direction under it. Still, if you don't like the space the Tab Bar takes up in landscape views, check out the following method for removing it.

Method 2: Switch in Safari's Settings

Open the Settings app and select "Safari." You can also search for "Safari" from Spotlight search and open it under the Settings group (you can also type in "Safari se" to make the result appear at the top). Next, go to the Tabs section, and check "Single Tab" instead of "Tab Bar."

How to Move Safari's Search Bar to the Top of the Screen in iOS 15

If you want to remove the Tab Bar in landscape mode, you can do that by toggling off the "Landscape Tab Bar" switch in the Tabs settings. You can see the before and after below.

Apple's big iPhone update moved the Safari search bar, here's how to change it back

thumbnail

  • In iOS 15, Apple's new iPhone software, the Safari address bar where users type in websites has been moved to the bottom.
  • Apple has provided two different ways for users to revert Safari to its old user interface in the software that came out this week.

Apple released iOS 15 this week, which includes lots of new features. But one of the biggest changes is moves the Safari address bar to the bottom of the page, which some people don't like.

The change was one of the software's most controversial features when Apple announced the Safari redesign in June. It turns out a lot of people prefer the address bar where it was, up top, instead of at the bottom of the display.

I'll show you how to change it back.

How to move the Safari address bar from the bottom of the screen to the top

There are two different ways to revert Safari back to the way it used to look. The first one is the easiest, but the second way lets you go back and forth in case you ever decide you want the address bar on the bottom again.

Reminder: this only applies if you've already installed the iOS 15 update that rolled out on Tuesday.

While browsing

  • While browsing a website, click on the icon with the two A's next to the website's URL.
  • You'll see a Settings menu for Safari.
  • Tap the option to "Show Top Address Bar."

Through the Settings app

  • Open Settings on your iPhone with iOS 15. It's the app icon with gears.
  • Scroll down until you find Safari and tap on it.
  • Scroll down again until you see the "Tabs" section.
  • Tap "Single Tab" if you prefer the old style with the address bar at the top. Pick "Tab Bar" if you ever want to go back to the new style.

That's it!

Apple reveals iOS 15 at WWDC

iOS 15 Safari: How to change the address/search bar design on iPhone

By Michael Potuck

August 18, 2021

Apple’s latest iOS release comes with an all-new Safari design that places the address/search bar at the bottom of the screen by default. But you can switch back to the classic iOS Safari design with a top bar. Here’s how to change the iOS 15 Safari address/search bar on iPhone.

Apple made its way through multiple iterations of the new iOS 15 Safari design and with the sixth beta , it included the option to switch between the controversial bottom address/search bar and the classic iOS Safari top address/search bar on iPhone.

The latest release also includes the classic bottom menu bar instead of packing all of Safari’s buttons into the unified address/search/tab bar. iOS 15 is currently available as a public and developer beta with the official release set for fall 2021.

How to change iOS 15 Safari address/search bar on iPhone • Running iOS 15, open Safari on your iPhone • In the bottom address/search bar, tap the “aA” icon on the left • Tap Show Top Address Bar To change back to the bottom bar design • Tap the “aA” icon in the top address/search bar • Choose Show Bottom Tab Bar Alternatively, you can also change the iOS 15 address/search bar by heading to the Settings app > Safari > swipe down and choose “Single Tab.”

Here’s how it looks to change the Safari address/search bar on iPhone:

And here’s how it looks to change it back to the bottom address/search bar:

The other way to change the address/search bar design is in the Settings app. In addition to changing between the bottom and classic top address/search bar designs, you can choose to enable/disable website tinting (matches the top iPhone status bar to websites’ colors) and enable/disable the landscape tab bar, however, the latter doesn’t seem to be working at the time of writing in iOS 15 beta 6.

How to Put Safari's Search Bar Back on Top in iOS 16

Annoyed that apple moved the address and search bar to the bottom of the screen in mobile safari without asking you first we show you how to put it back where it was in just a few steps..

Edward Mendelson

Have you been stewing because Safari’s address bar seems to have disappeared from your new or upgraded iPhone with iOS 16 ? As you have probably already figured out by now, the address bar didn't go away completely. When Apple introduced iOS 15, it moved the address bar from the top of the window to the bottom. This is probably the most annoying thing about Apple’s default settings for Safari. Fortunately, it’s easy to move it back.

Before you move it, it's good to know that the bottom-positioned address bar has one possible advantage: It lets you scroll left and right between your open tabs. If you go back to the old top-of-window address bar, you'll need to tap the tabs icon at the lower right to open the page that displays thumbnail images of all your open tabs and tap on the one you want. That thumbnail view is an advantage, however, if you keep a lot of tabs open, as I do. It's easier to pick the tab you want when you can see the previews rather than scroll right and left in a mad hunt.

If you want to go back to the top-of-the-window address bar, Apple gives you two ways to do it, one in Safari and the other in the Settings app.

How to Move the Search Bar in iOS 16: Safari Method

The easiest method is to move the search bar from within Safari itself.

Three screenshot images in iOS 15 showing where to tap to move the search and address bar in Safari

  • In the address bar at the foot of the screen, tap the AA icon at the left end. If you don't see it, swipe down to scroll up on the open web page, and it should appear.
  • From the popup menu, tap Show Top Address Bar. The address bar moves instantly.
  • If you want to move the address bar back to the foot, tap the AA icon again, which is now at the top left, then select Show Bottom Address Bar.

How to Move the Search Bar in iOS 16: Settings Method

The less intuitive and more complex method is to go through the Settings app.

Three screenshot images in iOS 15 Settings showing where to tap to move the search and address bar in Safari

  • Open Settings and scroll down to Safari.
  • Then, in the Safari settings dialog, scroll down to Tabs
  • You'll see two icons. Tap the one on the right called Single Tab to put the address bar back at the top of Safari. The icons helpfully show you where the address and search bar will appear, either on the bottom or top of the window.
  • To move the address bar back to the bottom so you can swipe left and right to move through your tabs, select the Tab Bar icon on the left instead.

Nuisance Resolved

When Apple gets a new idea about one of its apps, it tends to make the new idea the default setting for that app—even if many users prefer Apple’s old ideas. Fortunately, Apple also makes it easy to go back to its tried-and-true ideas, so it’s easy to make Safari put its best face forward again.

How to Move Safari Search Bar to Top or Bottom of Screen on iPhone

how to change safari search bar position

iOS 15 has a number of new improvements including a completely revamped Safari browser, which is probably the most notable. Today we’re going to explore one of the most frequently asked questions: The iPhone’s Safari search bar can be moved to the top of the screen.

There is one thing people don’t like about it, even though it was supposed to improve mobile browsing. One particular feature has upset a lot of people. Since iOS 15 moved the Address Bar to the bottom of the screen, it should be more easily accessible and should be closer to your fingertips.

It makes sense to move the Address Bar here to make it easier to find. The Address Bar is accessible by touching the top of the screen, but users who have been using iOS 14 for a while have been doing that.

Here’s how you can restore the Address Bar to its rightful place at the top of the screen, thanks to iOS 15.

What is it about the search bar’s new location that causes such a challenge?

We have grown accustomed to having the search bar on the top of the screen for a long time, using the iPhone and almost every other browser. Moving it to the bottom is disorienting.

Accordingly, this should turn out to be a benefit, since you can reach the bottom of the screen with one hand, especially on larger iPhones. In addition, you can switch between tabs with one hand, just as you switch between apps. From a design standpoint, this seems sensible.

How can I move the Safari search bar to the top of the screen on an iPhone?

There are two ways to go about this, so let’s start there.

1. An option within the Safari iPhone application

To reposition the iPhone Address bar to its rightmost position using this method, which is the shortest of the two methods, you must use the customize menu.

Here is how you do it:

1.On your iPhone, open the Safari browser.

2.Go to Google or Yahoo, or any other website you prefer.

3.Choose the AA icon to the left of the address bar.

4.The top address bar can be displayed by selecting the “ Show Top Address Bar ” selection from the menu.

how to change safari search bar position

Previously the address bar would be located at the top of the Safari browser, but it is now restored to where it was before iOS 15.

2. How to use the Safari settings to relocate the search bar to the top of the screen?

Consider whether you’re swiping between tabs by accident or whether having the URL bar at the bottom of your screen is confusing. This is the easiest way to enter Single Tab mode and move the search bar to the top of Safari when surfing.

1.On your iPhone, open the Settings app.

2.Scroll down to the drop-down menu and select Safari.

3.In the Tabs area, select “ Single Tab .”

how to change safari search bar position

You’ll notice that the search bar has been moved to the top of the screen when you run Safari.

How do you get back to the address search bar at the bottom of the iPhone screen?

If you change your mind or choose to reinstate the bottom address search bar in Safari, the instructions below will walk you through the process of converting back to the new iOS 15 design.

1.Open the Safari browser on your computer.

2.Type any website’s URL into the Safari address search field to visit it.

3.Click AA in the top-left corner of the address search bar.

4.Then select “ Show Bottom Tab Bar .”

how to change safari search bar position

This may also be changed in Safari’s settings. Select Tab Bar from the Tabs menu.

What Is Safari’s Landscape Tab Bar Setting?

In iOS 15, there is a setting named “ Landscape Tab Bar ,” which is activated by default. When you rotate the iPhone into landscape mode and use Safari, you’ll see all of the open tabs at the top of the screen.

This is akin to seeing all of the open tabs in a web browser on a computer. When the Landscape Tab Bar is switched off, you won’t see this short strip of open tabs.

The Most Recent Safari Search Bar Redesign Is Optimized For Bigger iPhones

The screen size of iPhones is becoming bigger. When using their iPhone one-handedly, most Apple customers have trouble reaching the top address search bar. If, on the other hand, you prefer the former Safari design, you may change the settings right away by using one of the methods indicated above.

Wrapping Up

If you’re unhappy with the recent update, the solutions outlined in this article may be able to assist you get the Safari search bar back to where it belongs.

A few iPhone users, on the other hand, have praised the latest changes to the operating system. It is ultimately up to the person to make the decision.

iOS 17: How to Move Safari Address Bar on iPhone Explained

Moving the Safari address bar on your iPhone with iOS 17 is a simple process. Just head to your Settings, tap Safari, and under the ‘Tabs’ section, select ‘Single Tab’ to move the address bar to the top, or ‘Tab Bar’ to keep it at the bottom. Easy-peasy, right?

After you complete the action, the Safari address bar will be displayed in your preferred location, either at the top or bottom of the screen, depending on your selection. This small change can significantly impact how you interact with your browser and navigate the web on your iPhone.

You can also watch this video about how to move Safari address bar on iPhone for more on this topic.

An Introduction to Safari Address Bar Customization

Ever since Apple introduced the option to customize the placement of the Safari address bar in iOS 15, users have had mixed feelings. Some love the new, more reachable bottom address bar, while others yearn for the traditional top placement. Fast forward to iOS 17, and the debate continues. But here’s the good news: Apple has given you the power to choose. With a few taps, you can customize your browsing experience to suit your preference. But why is this such a big deal?

Well, it’s all about usability and comfort. The placement of the address bar can affect how easily you can navigate your phone, especially with one hand. And let’s face it, in the age of large-screen smartphones, convenience is king. Whether you’re a devoted Apple user or just someone trying to navigate your iPhone more efficiently, this feature is designed to enhance your overall user experience. So, let’s dive into the steps and explore the pros and cons of this nifty feature.

Step by Step Tutorial to Move Safari Address Bar on iPhone

First, let’s go over what we’ll accomplish in the following steps. We’ll be tweaking a setting in the Safari section of your iPhone’s settings. This will allow you to move the address bar from its default bottom position to the top of the screen.

Step 1: Open Settings

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.

When you open Settings, you’ll find a list of options to customize various aspects of your iPhone. For our purpose, you’ll need to scroll down to find ‘Safari’, nestled among other default apps.

Step 2: Tap Safari

Scroll down and tap on ‘Safari’ to open the browser’s settings.

In the Safari settings, you’ll see a variety of options that allow you to tweak your browsing experience. Look for the section named ‘Tabs’.

Step 3: Choose Your Preferred Option

  • Under ‘Tabs’, select ‘Single Tab’ to move the address bar to the top, or ‘Tab Bar’ to keep it at the bottom.

The ‘Single Tab’ option will give you the traditional look with the address bar at the top, similar to how it is on a desktop browser. The ‘Tab Bar’ option will maintain the new design introduced in iOS 15, with the address bar at the bottom of the screen.

Additional Information

While the steps above are pretty straightforward, there are a few additional things you might want to consider. For instance, if you’re someone who frequently switches between different iOS devices, like an iPad and an iPhone, you may want to keep the address bar placement consistent across devices for a seamless transition. Also, remember that the placement of the address bar can affect how you interact with the rest of the Safari interface.

For example, if the address bar is at the bottom, it’s easier to swipe between tabs with your thumb. That’s something to consider if you’re an avid tab swiper. It’s also worth noting that the iOS 17 update might bring along other interface changes, so keep an eye out for those when you’re customizing your Safari settings. Lastly, don’t be afraid to experiment with both options for a week or so to really figure out which placement you prefer. And hey, you might even discover a new, more efficient way to browse!

  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Safari’.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does changing the address bar position affect other apps.

No, this change only affects Safari and not any other apps on your iPhone.

Can I move the address bar to the sides?

No, the address bar can only be moved to the top or bottom of the screen.

Will this setting sync across my Apple devices?

No, this setting is specific to each device. You’ll need to set your preference on each device individually.

Is there a shortcut to switch between the top and bottom address bar?

No, you have to go into Settings each time you want to switch the address bar position.

If I update to iOS 17, will my address bar move automatically?

No, the address bar will stay in its current position unless you manually change it in the settings.

With iOS 17, the ability to move the Safari address bar is a subtle yet impactful customization feature. Whether you prefer the traditional top placement or the newer bottom placement, the choice is yours, and it’s all about making your browsing experience as comfortable and efficient as possible.

So go ahead and give it a try—you might just find a new preferred way to surf the web on your iPhone. Remember, the key is to find what works best for you and enjoy the ride on the information superhighway.

How to change Safari search bar to top?

Search bar

Credits: PCMag

Search bar

Apple has been nothing but great with its software features recently and with the latest iOS 15, Apple made a change to the Safari search bar and moved it to the bottom of the screen as opposed to the top. The reason behind this change was better reachability and ease of swiping between tabs open on Safari. With the search bar being at the boron, you can easily swipe left or right to switch between tabs using your thumb. This was certainly not possible with the search bar being on top, and there are many people out there who do not like the new alignment of the Safari search bar, and they wish to change it back.

Fortunately, Apple has given users an option to change these settings back to as they were. Yes, you can switch your Search bar back on top but keep in mind that you will loose that navigation feature between the tabs that is so easily possible with the search bar being at the bottom.

If you are still not comfortable with the way things have changed in Safari, follow the below mentioned steps to change the Search bar back to the top of the screen.

  • Unlock your iPhone.
  • Open Settings.
  • Search for Safari > Click on it.
  • Under Tabs, switch from Tab Bar to Single Tab.

This is one way of changing the position of the Search bar in Safari. However, you should also look at this second way of doing it and then you can choose which one you like.

  • Click on Safari.
  • Open any website.
  • Click on the aA option on the search bar.
  • A menu will open > Click on “Show Top Address Bar”.

Any of these steps can be followed to change the position of the Search bar in Safari on your iPhone.

You can now stick with the things as they were before the software update. I also changed it to top in the beginning but later on, I switched it back to the bottom of the screen because it is way easier this way to navigate between your open tabs. Sooner or later you are going to embrace the new software change but it is still better that you do it at your own pace.

THE LOCATION OF THE SEARCH THE WEB BAR

The "search the web" bar has moved to the top of screen on my microsoft edge browser screen and I would like to move it back to the middle of the page where it always was. This is not an easy thing to fix nor is it in any way obvious how to do this. I do not know why it moved in the first place. It is extremely irritating. Thanks.

The location of the search bar varies according to the layout you choose for the New Tab Page. Open a new tab and then click on the Page Settings gear icon ⚙. Try out the options available until you find one that suits you.

Thank you very much for replying but this suggestion does not solve my problem. There simply does not appear to be any way to put the web search space back to the middle of the page where it was for ten years before whatever microsoft did to it. The ability to move this feature does not exist as far as I can tell. I have no idea why it was moved in the first place. It really is irritating. I hate it when these tech companies just change your devices for no discernible reason.

I am not sure if I am even asking the question in such a way that anyone understands what I am actually asking.

I assumed that by the  " search the web " bar  you were referring to the search bar on the New Tab Page. If this is the case, then I can't get it any closer to the the middle of the page than this:

Image

If this isn't what you mean, perhaps you could explain what you're looking for in a bit more detail.

Thanks for replying. Yes, that is what I am talking about. No, it is not possible to put it back the way it was. Now the only way to kind of put it back the way it was is to otherwise leave the screen blank. I don't know why but that is the way my computer is now that this box has been moved. So frustrating but after I ignore it for awhile I guess I will get used to the new way microsoft has changed my computer.

No, it is not possible to put it back the way it was.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand. Could you please explain what you mean by 'the way it was'? The layout of the New Tab Page hasn't changed much since the browser was first released to the public early in 2020, but these up-down shifts of the search bar are relatively new (within the past couple of months).

If you could explain how you'd like the page to be laid out, we could probably make some suggestions. There is no way at the moment to have a blank New Tab Page, and anyway that wouldn't solve your original problem of having the search bar in the middle of it - which is quite possible as my screenshot illustrated.

Sure, the way it was is that the search bar was in the middle of the page where it should be and where your eye naturally looks intuitively.  Behind that was whatever their picture of the day is, usually some scene from nature.  That is the way I would like it to be since that is natural and where it was for literally years before one day microsoft just decided to move it to the top of the screen.  I see what you said about having a blank page and putting the search bar in the middle of the page but that is not the way my computer screen was or how I would like it to be.  If I go to "page layout" yes I can have the search bar in the middle of the page but if I try to put the picture back it moves the search bar to the top of the page automatically.  This is not something that I am imagining and it is not easily fixed and yes, microsoft just changed the look of my screen for no reason at all.  Thanks.
