Vietnam tourism to benefit from Blackpink Hanoi concert tour

On June 26, Blackpink announced they would hold two concerts at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on July 29-30 as part of their current world tour "Born Pink." Tickets for the two concerts cost VND1.2-9.8 million (US$51-$414) each.

According to online travel booking platform Agoda, searches for hotel rooms in Hanoi last week grew by 10 times compared to the previous week.

Searches from abroad also increased by 2.5 times, especially from markets such as mainland China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

Advertisements of homestay services near My Dinh National Stadium also flooded social media.

Facebooker Pham Tra posted photos of a homestay with modern-equipped rooms on her Facebook page.

She said her homestay was only a two-minute walk from My Dinh Stadium where Blackpink will perform for the first time as part of their current Born Pink world tour.

Facebook user Thai Thi Hang offered their homestay, just a 10-minute drive away from My Dinh Stadium for VND850,000 ($36) a night, including free pick-up service.

Tourism insiders said the upcoming Blackpink shows would be a "golden opportunity" for Hanoi to cash in on the growing reputation of the K-pop girl band like many Southeast Asian destinations such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand did earlier.

Tourism in Thailand earned more than $20-30 million from Blackpink's concert held in January this year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand assessed that the Born Pink concert helped attract a large number of high-spending tourists.

According to The Straits Times , Singapore collected more than $35 million from the Blackpink performance in May.

Many tour operators such as Vietravel provide combo packages ranging from VND5.2 to 7.2 million, including 4-star hotel services and round-trip air tickets for those wanting to watch Blackpink concert shows in Hanoi late this month.

Nguyen Cong Hoan, general director of Flamingo Redtours, said that Blackpink's arrival would create good PR for international tourists.

Hanoi ranked second nationwide in terms of tourism revenue in the first half of this year with VND44 trillion, surging 74% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

The capital welcomed 2.03 million foreign tourist arrivals during the January-June period, up sevenfold.
