What Is It?

The International Fly Fishing Film Festival is a collection of short and feature-length films that explore fly fishing from every corner of the globe. Last year, films selected for the festival featured fly fishing adventures in places such as mountain-bike accessed, goliath-brown-trout filled streams on the South Island of New Zealand, to trophy rainbow trout fisheries in British Columbia, and even saltwater flats in Sudan! Fly fishing is far from just dry fly casting for mountain trout: it is a sport practiced almost anywhere there’s water and fish. Because of that, fishing, and fly fishing specifically, has a unique power to connect people. The IF4 seeks to share these connections with you through professionally-crafted stories. Each film we select for the festival is, of course, about fishing; but they’re about so much more than that, too. Each fishing adventure teaches us as much about how we connect with nature and each other as it does about the fish and the water; through storytelling, we are able to share these experiences with people from many different parts of the world. We are excited for the opportunity to showcase the very best of fly fishing film for the upcoming 2024 season with you. Not only that, but we are also currently looking for new people, films and places to add to our tour! If you have a film you want to share, or a location where you want to host an IF4 screening in 2024, apply on our website for the chance to become a part of the event! We can’t wait for the 2024 edition of the International Fly Fishing Film Tour and the opportunity to share so many of the powerful stories of the fly fishing community with anglers and enthusiasts all over the world.

4 Weeks of Daylight | 2022 IF4™ Official Selection

The Kola Reserve has recently gathered a cadre of professional fly fishing pioneers led by Stephan Dombaj of Fly Fishing Nation on a mission to determine whether rumors of the existence of two phenomenal, lost and completely private Atlantic Salmon fisheries on the northern coast of the Kola Peninsula in Russia were true. Adding to the intrigue and speculation was the fact that both rivers flow north into the Barents Sea at a point only slightly southeast of the trophy-laden Yokanga and to the northwest of the prolific Ponoi. They are dead-center in the heart of a region famous for trophy-sized Atlantic salmon, numbers of grilse, and large Osenka (fall run) Atlantics. The rivers are completely private and have been designated catch-and-release, fly fishing only fisheries that will remain shielded from poaching, commercial harvest, and exploitation.

A Season on the South | 2022 IF4™ Official Selection

This film follows a few mates on a season of fly fishing through the different regions of New Zealand’s South Island, exploring a hand full of remote and pristine back country rivers, travelling on foot, mountain bike and pack raft.

One of the highlighted film spawns locally. It focuses on the 100 year guiding and ranching legacy of the Turner family’s five generations at the Triangle X Ranch. It depicts how wild places, its mountains and rivers, define who we are. It is the story of a family blessed to live, work and share with others the Snake River, one of the most spectacular river corridors anywhere in the world. It shows how the Turner tradition instills a passion to protect the “wild” for future generations to come. The film portrays the career of a local guide and native, John F, Turner, and his remarkable career in wildlife and land protection.

The March event is being hosted by the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson Hole’s Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and the University of Wyoming’s Haub School of the Environment and Natural Resources. Proceeds from the night will go to fund continuing fishery restoration projects of TU, and also to a scholarship fund at the University for students who wish to pursue a career of being an outdoor guide with a strong emphasis in conservation. Students will be enrolled in the University’s WORTH program (Wyoming’s Outdoor Recreation, Travel and Hospitality.)

Event attendees will enjoy a cash bar and whiskey tasting of Lost Whiskey company.
