Why don’t you pay us a visit when you come to Delhi the next time. Or Why don’t you make us a visit when you come to Delhi the next time? What should be used? I am asking someone to visit me when they are in Delhi the next time Thank you .

"Pay us a visit" sounds normal, Abcd. I don't know why or when people began to use "pay" with "visit", but that combination is now customary.

lingobingo

To pay [someone] a visit is a standard phrase. To make someone a visit is not – it does not make sense. The way you’ve used visit (as a verb) in your explanation is fine: Why don’t you visit us?

Pay us a visit was an example in Cambridge dictionary. It was Why don't you pay us a visit next time when you are in town?

I'm not sure I agree with that. I made a visit to Tuscany last year. I think when you use paid it has to be referring to a person or a group of people. "Made" seems suitable for a reference to a geographic area.

College tour season is about to kick off. Here are 10 tips from college tour guides to have a successful campus visit.

  • As spring starts, colleges nationwide will welcome parents and students to tour their campuses.
  • College tour guides want people to arrive on time, ask the right questions, and have fun.
  • They also recommend students take the tours on their own, without their parents.

Insider Today

Spring break is right around the corner, and for many high-school students and their parents, that means many will be hitting the road to tour colleges around the country.

To make the most of your visit, Business Insider spoke with college students and tour guides. They know the campuses like the backs of their hands, and they know how to walk backward.

Here are the dos and don'ts of college tours from student guides .

1. Get there with no time to spare, but don't be late.

You won't get points for arriving early, so try to arrive on time. But if you do happen to arrive late , there's no need to worry.

"If something comes up and you are late, ask your guide what you missed once the tour finishes," Skyler Kawecki-Muonio, a senior at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, told BI. "They will happily fill you in."

2. Dress to impress, but don't sacrifice comfort.

It's important to look nice, but you don't have to don a jacket and tie. Tour-goers should put their best foot forward with a sturdy pair of walking shoes , and don't forget to dress for the weather.

"At Fairleigh Dickinson, tours go out rain or shine, so make sure to wear clothes that will keep you warm," Emily Bone, a junior at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, said .

3. Don't forget to sign in, but skip the résumé .

Most schools have a check-in desk where you'll receive a campus map and other literature. But don't bother furnishing schools with your portfolio.

"Students can leave their résumés at home," Henry Millar, a senior at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, said. "Tour guides generally do not have any sway in the admissions process whatsoever, so feel free to save the paper."

4. Pay attention on the tour, but do it solo if possible.

Some schools offer to let parents and kids take separate tours, which has advantages.

"Get excited about your child's potential future in college, but give them some space to see what they think of that school on their own," Nathan Weisbrod, a junior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, told BI.

Related stories

Students can comfortably ask questions without a parent present and compare notes afterward .

5. Ask all your questions, but avoid personal interrogations.

This is the time to inquire about any aspect of campus life , and don't feel shy about speaking up.

"Tour guides love getting questions because it allows us to cater the tour, especially in small groups, toward the needs and interests of the families on that specific tour," Halle Spataro, a senior at Bucknell University, said.

But some topics are off-limits, so don't ask your tour guide about their SAT scores , ACT scores , or what they wrote about in their essay .

6. Speak up, but let the student take the lead.

Parents may be tempted to raise their hands again and again, but this tour is about the student, so there should be space to let them shine.

"Try to take the back seat — or the passenger seat — but refrain from driving all of your child's interactions," Julian Jacklin, a junior at Reed College in Oregon, said. "Students who feel they can own that experience usually ask the most questions and engage with the tour more."

7. Say thanks, but don't leave with questions unanswered.

Maybe your guide didn't hear you, or your kid was reluctant to speak up. You can still get the information you want before leaving.

"There's a lot of information students are getting that day and a lot of excitement with being in a new place, which can make people forget to ask certain questions," Lorenzo Mars, a junior at Pepperdine University in California, said.

Therefore, get your tour guide's email address so that you can follow up .

8. You may know exactly what school is right but keep an open mind.

Don't be surprised if a city-living kid is suddenly intrigued by a small-town setting.

"The college search and college experience are all about getting to know yourself better and growing, so on a tour, students have to trust themselves and their judgment of the 'world' they've just stepped into," Thomas Elias, a senior at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, said .

9. Take in as much as possible, but remember to have fun.

Sure, preparing for the next four years can be scary and stressful. But it's also an exciting milestone, so enjoy the ride.

"These tours serve as great opportunities to learn more about colleges — along with their cities, culture, and people," Connor Gee, a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, said. "Have fun with it!"

10. Weigh the pros and cons of the school, but don't stop there.

Your tour may be over, but you can still learn other ways to immerse yourself in college life .

"See if the school offers additional experiences, like eating in the cafeteria or attending a class," Emily Balda, a senior at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, said. "Consider it 'food for thought.'"

Your next trip to Walt Disney World may be pricier than you had expected.

Bookings for Disney’s Florida resort and theme park in 2025 opened in late February 2024 with price hikes for day passes.

One-day, one-park tickets cost $119 for guests over age 9 for 2025 visits, up $10 from this year’s $109 tickets. This is the most recent increase since ticket prices went up in 2022.

Ticket price increases for single-day passes vary for different times of the year. For example, a day pass for Animal Kingdom on a Saturday in late April when demand is high will be $169 in 2025, compared to the $164 cost for this year, according to CNN .

Meanwhile, Magic Kingdom single-day passes increased to $189 from $184 this year on the same day at the end of April.

The highest single-day, single-park 2025 pass is $189, as of February 27, similar to the highest price in 2024.

“Ticket prices for November and December 2025 were not yet available as of February 27,” CNN added .

For Park Hopper tickets, which allow visitors to enter several parks in one day, the price has increased by about $5 to $10 in 2025 depending on the date.

The ticket price hike to visit the popular Florida theme park follows day-pass price increases from 2023 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in California. Prices rose between $5 and $65 depending on the ticket.

BREAKING: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to select attorney and entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan as his running mate for his independent presidential campaign

Trump fundraising committee to use donations for legal bills

Election 2024 Trump politics political politician red maga hat

A portion of the donations to the newly formed "Trump 47" joint fundraising committee will filter to the Save America political action committee, which is often used to cover former President Donald Trump's legal bills, according to a donation contribution form obtained by NBC News.

The move is a departure from typical campaign donation trajectories. Ahead of the general election, donations to joint fundraising committees traditionally filter to candidates’ campaigns, the national party and state parties, not leadership PACs.

But this year, donations to Trump 47 will first be disbursed to the Trump campaign , followed by the Save America PAC once a donor hits the maximum campaign contribution limit.

After an individual’s donations hit the limit for both the campaign and the Save America PAC, the Republican National Committee will receive funds, followed by individual state Republican parties.

The maximum annual contribution to a leadership PAC is $5,000. The contribution limit means that only a fraction of major donors’ contributions would go toward legal bills, while a higher percentage of small-contribution donors’ money would go to legal bills, rather than be funneled to the RNC.

"Save America also covers a very active and robust post-Presidency office and other various expenses not related to fighting the illegal witch-hunts perpetrated by Crooked Joe Biden," Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement.

"The Trump campaign, the RNC, and state GOP parties ultimately receive the overwhelming majority of funds raised through the Trump 47 Committee," he added, noting that just a small fraction of an individual donor’s overall maximum contribution goes to Save America.

Trump faces four criminal indictments for allegations that he conspired to defraud the U.S. by subverting the results of the 2020 presidential election, mishandled classified documents and falsified business records related to hush money payments. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all cases.

He also faces a slew of civil legal issues. He and his company were hit with a $464 million fraud judgment in New York, and Trump was ordered to pay $83 million in defamation damages to E. Jean Carroll for defamation . Trump has had difficulty raising funds to post a bond for the civil fraud penalty against him, with his attorneys arguing that securing a bond for nearly half a billion dollars by next week’s deadline is “a practical impossibility.”

4 Ways a Settlement Could Change the Housing Industry

The influential National Association of Realtors agreed to make several changes to its policies to settle class-action lawsuits brought by home sellers who say they were forced to pay inflated commissions to real estate agents.

That National Association of Realtors building in Chicago.

By Debra Kamin

In the early hours of Friday morning, the National Association of Realtors agreed to a global settlement deal that would resolve several lawsuits against the trade group.

A group of Missouri home sellers sued N.A.R. over their policies on agent compensation, arguing that a N.A.R. rule requiring home sellers to pay commissions to their agents and the agents of their buyers led to inflated fees and price fixing. The lawsuit also called into a question another rule requiring agents to list homes on N.A.R.-affiliated databases in order to sell them. In October, a jury agreed that both practices were anticompetitive, and a judge ordered damages of at least $1.8 billion.

More than a dozen copycat cases, all accusing N.A.R. of stifling competition and violating antitrust laws, have followed.

With the settlement agreement, N.A.R. will pay $418 million in damages , but more important, it has agreed to rewrite a number of rules that have long been central to the U.S. housing industry. Here’s how things stand to change, pending court approval.

Home prices will drop.

In the United States, most agents specify a commission of 5 or 6 percent, paid by the seller. That means that someone with a $1 million home should expect to spend up to $60,000 on real estate commissions alone, with $30,000 going to his agent and $30,000 going to the agent who brings a buyer. Even for a home that costs $400,000 — close to the current median for homes across the United States — sellers are still paying around $24,000 in commissions, a cost that is baked into the final sales price of the home.

With the settlement agreement, sellers’ agents will no longer be required to make offers of commission to buyers’ agents, a practice called decoupling. This will save homeowners billions.

“Decoupling will allow commissions to be removed and negotiated down, lowering both housing prices and overall consumer costs,” said Steve Brobeck, the retired executive director of the Consumer Federation of America. Mr. Brobeck said that Americans spend about $100 billion a year in real estate commissions, and with the settlement, that number is expected to dip by at least $20 billion and up to $50 billion.

Since commissions are tacked onto the price of a home, “Over time, both sellers and buyers will force rates down through negotiation and comparison shopping in a more price-transparent marketplace,” he said.

The 6 percent commission will cease to be the norm.

The lawsuits argued that N.A.R., and brokerages that required their agents to be members of N.A.R., had set rules that led to an industrywide standard commission of 5 or 6 percent — one of the highest rates in the world. Without that guaranteed rate, agents will now most likely be forced to lower their commissions to compete for business.

“U.S. commissions are unlikely to decline to the 1 or 2 percent rate level in England, where only one agent and an attorney are usually involved in a home sale. But they certainly will decline substantially, and commissions will also increasingly reflect the competence and efforts of agents on sales,” Mr. Brobeck said in an email.

Steering — the practice of agents directing buyers to more expensive houses — will be less common.

Most of the databases where homes are listed for sale in the United States are restricted to dues-paying members who belong to N.A.R., a dominance that has led to antitrust allegations against N.A.R.

One N.A.R. rule demands that a listing agent, when posting a home on the database, clearly state the amount of compensation that a buying agent will receive should they bring a buyer. This is a practice that critics say has long led to “steering,” in which buyers’ agents direct their clients to pricier homes in a bid to collect a bigger commission check.

Under the settlement, any fields displaying broker compensation will be eliminated entirely, which will help damper the practice.

About one million real estate agents could leave the profession.

The number of real estate agents swelled during the pandemic, when mortgage rates plummeted and the housing market boomed. In 2020 and 2021, more than 156,000 people got their real estate licenses, and membership in the National Association of Realtors hit a peak of 1.6 million members in 2022.

A lot of that growth was predicated on the idea of easy money.

But now a lot of those agents are struggling, and a reduction in commission rates will only increase the pain. Half of the agents in the country sold one house — or no house s at all — last year. With the industry now staring down a massive overhaul, veteran agents predict their less experienced peers will leave the field all together.

Some analysts predict a mass departure. One widely cited report from investment banking firm Keefe, Bruyette & Woods projects 1 million agents leaving the field as shared commissions vanish.

“Veteran agents have built strong relationships, established reputations and extensive networks. Newer real estate agents may struggle,” said Jen McDonald, who leads LPT Realty in Reno, Nev., and has spent 24 years in the industry. “Without established reputations or strong clients bases, they are going to find it challenging to retain clients or attract new ones.”

Social security announces four key updates to address improper payments.

“For 88 years, the hard-working employees of the Social Security Administration have strived to pay the right amount, to the right person, at the right time. And the agency has done this with a high degree of accuracy over a massive scale of beneficiaries. But despite our best efforts, we sometimes get it wrong and pay beneficiaries more than they are due, creating an overpayment.

When that happens, Congress requires that we make every effort to recover those overpaid benefits. But doing so without regard to the larger purpose of the program can result in grave injustices to individuals, as we see from the stories of people losing their homes or being put in dire financial straits when they suddenly see their benefits cut off to recover a decades-old overpayment, or disability beneficiaries attempting to work and finding their efforts rewarded with large overpayments. Innocent people can be badly hurt. And these injustices shock our shared sense of equity and good conscience as Americans.

We are continually improving how we serve the millions of people who depend on our programs, although we have room for improvement, as media reports last fall revealed. We have also embarked upon a deep dive into the extent of the overpayment problem at Social Security, the root causes of these administrative errors, and the steps we can take as an agency to address these individual injustices.

Our deeper understanding of the complexities of this problem has set us on the following course of action:

  • Starting next Monday, March 25, we will be ceasing the heavy-handed practice of intercepting 100 percent of an overpaid beneficiary’s monthly Social Security benefit by default if they fail to respond to our demand for repayment. Moving forward, we will now use a much more reasonable default withholding rate of 10 percent of monthly benefits — similar to the current rate in the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
  • We will be reframing our guidance and procedures so that the burden of proof shifts away from the claimant in determining whether there is any evidence that the claimant was at fault in causing the overpayment.
  • For the vast majority of beneficiaries who request to work out a repayment plan, we recently changed our policy so that we will approve repayment plans of up to 60 months. To qualify, Social Security beneficiaries would only need to provide a verbal summary of their income, resources, and expenses, and recipients of the means-tested SSI program would not need to provide even this summary. This change extended this easier repayment option by an additional two years (from 36 to 60 months).
  • And finally, we will be making it much easier for overpaid beneficiaries to request a waiver of repayment, in the event they believe themselves to have been without any fault and/or without the ability to repay.
Implementing these policy changes — with proper education and training across the people, policies, and systems of the agency — is an important but complex shift. And we are undertaking that shift with urgency, diligence, and speed.

I look forward to working with Members to discuss ideas that could address the root causes of overpayments.”

Social Security launched a comprehensive review in October 2023 of agency overpayment policies and procedures to address payment accuracy systematically. Learn about Overpayments and Our Process on our website. These changes are a direct result of the ongoing review.  Additionally, the agency recently announced it is working to reduce wage-related improper payments by using its legal authority to establish information exchanges with payroll data providers that will significantly reduce the number of improper payments, once implemented.  The agency will continue examining programmatic policy and making regulatory and sub-regulatory changes to improve the overpayment process. More details on these updates will be shared as they become available.

How about a letter of notice before you start taking away my lively hood. You know when I worked 58 hours a week nobody complained. They just took advantage of the opportunity to break into my place and take what they wanted. Now you slap me, take my money and I don’t know why until I start checking into why I did not get a check. Thank You and I hope the people who get the money are happy. Nasty Shot !!!

I am rep payee for my adult daughter. We have an on-going repayment for a 5,000 plus over payment that stems back from 2018. The reason for the O/P is that we went over 2,000 income limit. Sometimes by a few dollars, sometimes more. In my opinion, SS needs to revamp the way they rule these types of O/P. Here is an example of how they can do this. If you go over the 2,000 limit from $1.00 – $100.00, they should put it at a 2% recoup of your check. Over $100.00 – 500.00, could be a 10% recoup of your total check. You get the point. There is absolutely NO REASON to take the FULL CHECK away for going over by only 1.00. That is the true hardship of these over payments too but I do not see that being addresses in these new policies they plan to implement. Does anyone know different? If so, please let me know.

Before anything else, make sure the Social Security Administration (SSA) calculated the overpayment (O/P) correctly. There can be confusion between resources and income limits for SSI recipients. The $2k limit applies to RESOURCES, the INCOME limits are calculated differently. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-17-008.pdf

Here’s the issue:

The SSA might receive information from your bank indicating your daughter’s account balance exceeds the $2k resource limit for several months or more. However, this might not reflect the full picture. Funds deposited into her account that month should be counted as income for that month, but not as a resource in the same month. Only if some of this income remains in the account the following month, should it be considered a resource. Even then, you’d need to exclude the income received that following month. Unfortunately, bank statements received by the SSA often don’t capture this nuance. An assumption is made that your daughter is exceeding the resource limit based on the overall balance. This can be both incorrect and unfair.

What You Can Do:

Appeal: Even if your appeal is late, consider submitting a written statement explaining a “good cause” reason for the delay.

Request a Waiver: You can request the SSA waive repayment if the overpayment was outside your control, your daughter can’t afford to repay it, or repayment would cause undue hardship. Emphasize how small the resource overage was compared to the overpayment amount that created.

You can file both. Keep copies of everything you submit!

Legislation on the Horizon: There’s proposed legislation to raise the $2k resource limit, which hasn’t been adjusted for inflation in decades. It’s worth noting that pursuing “small” overpayments can be inefficient for the SSA due to administrative costs associated with appeals and waivers, so besides just the fairness issue, raising the resource limits actually has the potential to lower SSA administrative costs.
