By Plane: Flying to destinations within Thailand is a great choice with a number of budget airlines providing a quick way to get from one city to another.

The Thai Baht is the currency used in Thailand and you will need to exchange your dollars to Baht. Try to avoid major banks and popular tourist areas as you tend to get the worst exchange rates. Super Rich is the most famous money exchange company in Bangkok with several branches across the city; you must have your passport with you to exchange money in Bangkok. Tipping is not a common practice in Thailand and is not customary. There is no requirement to tip but small gratuities for great service are appreciated, and most restaurants and hotels will include a 10% service charge on your bill. For more detailed information, consult our guide to tipping in Thailand

The spoken language in Thailand is Thai. Most Thais in Bangkok can speak and understand English especially those working in the service industry.

Thailand Tours & Vacations

Two women talking with their guide next to the buddhas at the WatPho temple

Thailand is an idyllic paradise, where jungle-covered karsts plunge into aquamarine waters and the sand is sugar white.

But no matter how clichéd the fantasy, Thailand delivers in spades. The water around Krabi and Ko Tao really is that deep, cool shade of blue. Phi Phi’s limestone karsts really do look like some alien world. And the food? Let’s just say your local Pad Thai has nothing on Chiang Mai’s street stalls or the floating markets of Amphawa, where little old ladies do things with fish sauce and chili you never thought possible. From the waterfalls of Erawan to a homestay with the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle, these adventures go beyond the tourist traps. Buckle up.

Learn more about Thailand

Best time to visit thailand.

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid, and at times (like other South East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's mainland region is great to visit from November to February when the weather is cooler and dryer.

If you are planning on visiting the Gulf Coast (east), avoid the northeast monsoon that brings rain from October to January. For destinations like Phuket on the west side of the peninsula, the best time is November to April to avoid the other monsoon which causes Thailand's wet season from May to October.

Culture and customs

Often considered the epicenter of Buddhism, religion permeates daily life in Thailand. Sprinkled throughout the country are thousands of golden temples, where you’ll find Buddhist monks in orange robes walking the streets. Young men are expected to spend some time as a monk as it bestows honor on their families. Visitors should be respectful of monks and dress modestly when visiting a temple (cover your knees and shoulders and remove your shoes).

Like other Asian nations, the concept of ‘saving face’ is important. This means avoiding conflict or embarrassment in order to preserve social standing, dignity, and honor. Thai people will go out of their way to avoid ‘losing face’. Losing your temper or raising your voice are surefire ways to lose face and can be perceived as volatile or rude.

Eating and drinking

Thai food has everything from spicy dishes packed with chilis to milder coconut-based curries. With street stalls and night markets all over the country, it's really easy to pick up a snack wherever you are in Thailand. On many Intrepid trips, you'll be given the opportunity to have dinner with a local family – this offers a great chance to see how meals are prepared and learn more about the local culture. Go a step further on our 8-day Thailand Read Food Adventure to watch, eat, prepare, and present tasty and traditional Thai cuisine.

Things to try in Thailand

1. Pad Thai (Phat Thai)

A well-known dish but for good reason. This delicious plate of stir-fried rice noodles garnished with peanuts is full of flavor and can be served with fresh prawns, chicken, tofu, or vegetables.

2. Tom Yum (Tom Yam)

Usually prepared with stock, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili, this soup is widely available in Thailand and has been popularised around the world.

3. Green curry

One of many curries that Thais do so well. Green curry consists of chicken, Thai eggplant, and chilies bathed in a coconut milk-based sauce.

4. Som tam (green papaya salad)

This northern dish of shredded raw papaya, cherry tomatoes, and green beans is a tantalizing mix of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.

5. Coconut water

For a super fresh thirst quencher, try coconut water straight from the husk.

6. Tropical fruit

Fruit shakes and fresh fruit juices are widely available from markets and restaurants – make the most of all the tropical fruits of Thailand.

Geography and environment

Sharing borders with South East Asian neighbors  Cambodia ,   Laos ,   Malaysia   , and   Myanmar   (Burma), Thailand's natural environment varies greatly from region to region. From the steamy jungles and misty highlands in the north to the white sand beaches and picturesque islands of the south, Thailand's everchanging landscape has been fascinating and entertaining travelers for centuries.

The capital, Bangkok, is a heaving, urban jungle with skyscrapers, street vendors, markets, cars, tuk-tuks, bicycles, and masses of people all competing for space. Despite this, there are pockets of quiet beauty to be found with parks, temples, and traditional shop fronts scattered throughout the city.

Rural areas in the north are typically quieter, with locals living a more traditional way of life; the frenetic pace of the city giving way to a more slow-paced, agricultural-based lifestyle. Houses are simple, there's more space and less of the modern conveniences. Jungles, rivers, bamboo huts, and teak houses are more commonly seen here, and birds and other animal life are more abundant.

History and government

Early history.

Communities based on agriculture (such as rice growing) inhabited Siam (Thailand) as early as the 6th century. In the following centuries, Siam came under the influence of the Khmer, Dvaravati, and Malay cultures, with some temples and monuments in modern-day Thailand showing evidence of this influence. In the 13th century, the city of Sukhothai in northern Thailand became an important capital. The ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) feature remnants of the royal palace, temples, and other buildings and highlight the artistic and architectural features of the era.

Ayutthaya rose to prominence as the new capital in the 14th century and was considered a powerhouse of South East Asia as one of the most important centers of trade in the world. Enduring many battles, invasions, overthrows, and coups, Ayutthaya's far-reaching trade with other regions ensured a flourishing influence of art, weaponry, religion, and cuisine. Much wealth was generated by this enormous empire, with grand palaces, ornate buildings, and huge temples featured throughout the city. All this came to an end when the Burmese invaded in the 18th century, bringing the kingdom to ruin and resulting in the loss of many artistic and cultural treasures. Despite this, the ruins of the city are still standing, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and are a great day trip from Bangkok. See the sights of ancient and recent Thai history during a 3 day River Kwai and Ancient Thai Kingdoms tour.

Recent history

Thonburi was established as the capital of Siam by General Taksin in the late 18th century, yet this didn't last long with Taksim being deposed and executed not long after. Bangkok was then named capital by General Chakri, who became Rama I - the first king of the Rama Dynasty.

Over the years, Siam (Thailand) remained the only South East Asian country to remain free from European colonization. In 1932, the Siamese Revolution resulted in a constitutional monarchy being formed, and in 1941, Thailand invaded French Indochina, overpowered the French, and claimed Laos.

In the last thirty years, Thailand has seen political power change hands many times, often due to coups, revolutions, and protests. Despite this, Thailand’s economy continues to grow due to its strong tourist industry. Enduring all this, the much-loved King Rama IX has reigned as the Head of State since 1946 - claiming the title of the longest-reigning monarch in the world and providing Thai people with a stable figure to rely upon.

Bustling street markets filled with colorful vendors selling an assortment of goods can be found in small villages and large towns throughout the country. Luxurious, multi-level shopping malls that rival those in European cities are increasingly popping up.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is perhaps the largest and most extensive market in the world. Here vendors sell everything you can think of, from ceramics to Thai silk to vintage clothing. Bartering is expected at markets and most small vendors. As a rule of thumb, if the price isn’t listed, it’s negotiable. But remember, Thais appreciate friendliness and a sense of humor. The more aggressive you are in trying to get a deal, the less likely you are to get one.

Things to buy in Thailand

  • Vibrant fabric cushions, tablecloths, and hammocks
  • Silver jewelry (look for reputable stores)
  • Handcrafted umbrellas or parasols
  • Thai silk scarves, ties, wraps, and clothing
  • Colorful Celadon ceramics
  • Tailor-made clothing

Festival and events

Loy krathong (festival of lights).

During the 12th lunar month, people across the country gather around lakes, rivers, and canals to symbolically let their worries float away in the most magical way – by releasing colorful lotus-shaped rafts holding candles, incense, and flowers onto the water.

Yee Peng (or Yi Peng)

At the same time that Loy Krathong is taking place, Chiang Mai also celebrates Yee Peng. Religious events, cultural activities, and street parades all mark this Buddhist tradition. But what makes this festival truly spectacular is the release of thousands of sky lanterns that illuminate the sky.

Songkran (Thai New Year)

What happens when New Year’s Day falls during the height of summer? It morphs into a giant water fight. Some towns celebrate just on the day (April 13), while others stretch it out for several days of concerts, ceremonies, and other wet festivities.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

Flowers are used in ways you never thought imaginable at this colorful three-day event in February. Come for the parade of impressive floral floats, and stay for the tasty Thai street food, music, and performances.

Is Thailand a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

As a whole, Thailand is a hassle-free destination for LGBTQI travelers. Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket all have fairly prominent gay scenes. Be aware that Thais typically do not engage in public displays of affection, regardless of sexual orientation.

What's the transport like in Thailand?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators, and are more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in Thailand, you may find yourself traveling by Songthaew.

Get to know the locals as you share a ride in these converted pick-up trucks. Snagging a seat on the ‘two benches’ (the literal meaning of songthaew) is a popular way of getting around South East Asia.

See Thailand from the ground level on a Saamlaw, the three-wheeled wonder. Sometimes motorized but usually pedal-powered by a local, it’s a fun way to get from A to B or see a new city's sights.

What's the accommodation like in Thailand?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodations as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Thailand you may find yourself staying in a Homestay.

Experience friendly Thai hospitality while staying with a local family living a traditional way of life. Make new friends, pick up some local lingo and leave smiling.

The ultimate room with a view - spend the night on a floating bamboo raft house. Enjoy the seclusion, soak up the serenity and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does my trip to Thailand support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Thailand directly support our foundation partner, EcoThailand Foundation .

EcoThailand Foundation is on a mission to educate and empower local communities, on the tourist Islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Paluay, about environmental issues like climate change, waste management, nature appreciation, conservation and sustainable lifestyles. Donations from our trips help EcoThailand's environmental guardianship education program for children in local state schools.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

More information about Thailand

A vacation to   Thailand  is one of the most popular travel experiences in  Southeast Asia . The country continues to attract the public thanks to its fantastic mix of spectacular beaches, temples, delicious cuisine, a variety of activities and its cheerful locals. Located in the center of  Southeast Asia , on the  Indochina Peninsula , the Kingdom of  Thailand  is a dazzling treasure of the East. Its shares a border on to the east with  Laos , on the southeast with  Cambodia  and the  Gulf of Thailand , on the south with  Malaysia  and on the west with  Myanmar  and the  Andaman Sea.

Its  69 million  inhabitants are distributed along  1770 kilometers  from north to south and  805 kilometers  from east to west in  76 provinces , which have the same name as their corresponding capital cities.  Bangkok  is the most populated and has the highest population density. On a  tour of   Thailand , you will be amazed by the kindness of its inhabitants; it has even been granted the nickname of ‘ The Land of Smiles’.

The most mountainous area can be found close to the border with  Myanmar  and the highest peak is the  Doi Inthanon  at  2595 meters  and is located to the north, in the province of  Chiang Mai.  Its two main river systems are the  Chao Phraya,  which provides drainage for 35% of the country and runs through the heart of  Bangkok  and the  Mekong River , which serves as a natural border with  Myanmar  and  Laos  in the famous  Golden Triangle.

Thailand  enjoys a humid  tropical climate  with temperatures ranging between  15  and  35   degrees Celsius.  The monsoon season runs from  June  to  October , and the coolest months are from  November  to  February.   The remainder of the year is delightfully warm.

Nature in Thailand

Thailand  has a varied landscape, ranging from woodland to tropical mangroves, in the form of forests and jungles, which covers  25%  of the country and which together with the plateau, exhibits exuberant specimens of mangroves, Indian reeds, ebony, teak, oak , pines, bamboos, palms, ratans, lianas, fruit trees such as coconuts, mangoes and bananas and up to  27,000  species of plants and flowers such as fistula,  orchids , hibiscus or gardenias.

The more than  100 national parks  have a fundamental role in the protection of the  313  species of  reptiles ,  107  of  amphibians ,  900  of  birds  and  300  species of  mammals  that can be found in the country, such as elephants, tigers, monkeys, leopards, wild oxen, buffalos, tapirs, snakes and crocodiles.  Thailand  also has exceptionally rich marine life including reef fish, sea cow, crossbow fish, whale shark, and giant spider crabs, ensuring scuba diving is one of the most common activities for visitors on a  trip to Thailand.

Economy in Thailand

The Thai economy is supported by agriculture, rice cultivation, duck, pig, ox and cow farming and fishing in the  Andaman Sea ,  Gulf of Thailand  and the  Mekong River . Being one of the ten most visited countries in the world, tourism represents one of the main sources of income and has produced many job opportunities for its inhabitants.

It is a very well connected country and has a large transport network, so it is an easy country in which to enjoy a tour. It has  25 airports  and many international airlines land in  Bangkok , one of the most important airports in Asia. It has an extensive network of roads that move buses, minivans, cars, and motorcycles; the railways connect the most important cities of the country; A large number of private ferry companies connect the many islands and the best options to get around the capital's streets are the subway, the metro, the taxi or on a traditional tuk-tuk.

Religion in Thailand

75% of  Thailand’s  inhabitants belong to the  Que Tai  and  Lao  ethnic groups, the vast Chinese community represents about 15% of the population and the remainder of the country’s inhabitants are either  Malays, Mon, Khmer  and indigenous tribes from the highlands.

95% of the population follows the  Buddhist   Theravada  school of belief, 4% are  Muslim  and the remaining 1% identify as either  Hindu, Christian, Confucian  or  Taoist.  Thai men usually enter temporarily into a monastery for about three months after finishing their university studies. In the time they are there, they are novice monks and they can decide freely when to leave it. The reason why they do this is to cleanse their mind, earn merit and honor their parents.

History of Thailand

A  package holiday to Thailand  will undoubtedly bring you face-to-face with the living monuments of the country’s vast history. The oldest archaeological site in  Thailand  dates from  3600 BC  but the founding of the nation was established in  1238  with the  Kingdom of Sukhothai  until  1365  when it was replaced by the  Kingdom of Ayutthaya.  After the fall of this kingdom in  1767,  at the hands of the Burmese when the capital was devastated and burned, it was moved to  Thonburi  under the mandate of  King Taksin the Great.  In  1782  the reign of  Siam  passed to the  Chakri dynasty  with  Rama I,  who declared  Bangkok  the new capital.

The absolute monarchy of  Rama VII  became constitutional as a result of the coup d'état of  1932 . During the  Second World War ,  Thailand  was allied with  Japan , but during the final stages of the war, it unified with the  United States . In  1946 Rama IX  came to the throne and in  1949 ,  Siam  changed its name to  Thailand . After 17 violent attempts to seize political power and years of political instability, in  2014  the army staged a new coup d'etat. In  2016  the beloved king died, putting an end to the most enduring reign in the world. After seven decades of rule, the king was succeeded by his son  Rama  who found himself under a military dictatorship. Despite the attempts, it is the only  Southeast Asian  country that has  never been colonized  by a European power.

Culture and Traditions in Thailand

The Thais have had a centuries-long special relationship with  elephants , or  ‘chang’ , as they call them. These immense and beautiful creatures have been a fundamental part of the culture and appeared on the national flag until  1917 . Throughout history, these noble animals have been domesticated and have assisted in the construction, transport, and warfare. The importance and admiration for them are also reflected in  Buddhist  and  Hindu  beliefs and mythological legends giving them a mystical power and making them bearers of good luck. They are a true symbol for the country.

It is true that  elephants  in  Thailand  have also been the object of abuse, ill-treatment, and illegal trade, but fortunately, there are institutions that ethically rescue, care for, treat and feed them.

The picturesque  floating markets  are another of the Thai traditions and an essential visit on a  holiday to Thailand . A universe of canals, canoes, and houses on stilts, these floating markets are a unique insight into the daily lives of the locals as they buy and sell fruits, vegetables, crafts, and freshly cooked dishes.

Thai boxing or  ‘Muay Thai’  is a popular martial art and is considered a national sport. In the  Kingdom of Sukhothai , it was part of the military training of the soldiers.

Thai massages  are another hallmark of the country and follow an ancient philosophy. The technique was created  2,500  years ago by  Dr. Shivago , Buddha's physician, in which he combined different Asian techniques,  Ayurvedic  principles, and  yoga postures . You cannot fully experience a  tour of Thailand  without enjoying one of these wonderful massages. The technique consists of strong pressure and stretches in which the therapist uses their hands, fists, elbows, knees, feet, arms and legs in order for the recipient to achieve  physical, mental and emotional balance . There are countless massage parlors throughout the country and the prices are very cheap.

Embarking on a comprehensive  tour of Thailand  takes visitors through a fascinating and varied territory with a vast history to discover a country that will surprise you with its unique landscapes and variety of traditions. The country is a heavyweight in tourism and it is well deserved. Everyone wants to go and discover the country for themselves and whoever has visited always wants to return to explore further.

Why is Thailand the most popular destination in Asia?

The answer is simple; because it has everything; a rich historical heritage, the fruit of the kingdoms of Siam and Lanna; ancestral traditions and rigorous customs; a sublime artistic legacy that is reflected in the delicacy and beauty of its temples; captivating cities, well connected to each other; a bustling capital city; a dreamlike landscape that stretches from the lush mountain forests of the north to the idyllic islands of the south with magnificent beaches of fine sand and warm crystalline waters; national parks and nature reserves full of exotic wildlife, frantic cities and quiet rural areas, a delicious aromatic cuisine, a warm climate, accommodations of all kinds and for all budgets, virgin landscapes in which to practice sports such as hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, cycling, sailing or rafting, a lively nightlife and a mystical and spiritual environment; numerous modern shopping centers and street markets, an infrastructure prepared for tourism and affordable prices; and the most important thing, kind and friendly locals who always greet visitors with an unbreakable smile, infecting you with their infinite joy and their caring, tolerant and educated attitude, perhaps the fruit of  Buddhist  teachings. Hence the Thai proverb,  ‘do good and receive good, do evil and receive evil’.

A  holiday to Thailand  means entering into the deepest and warmest of Asian traditions. Its millenarian culture is a reference point and attracts, like a magnet, the western tourist who seeks traveler enrichment and open-mindedness. The capital,  Bangkok , is a bustling and extensive city, with a cultural treasure that deserves to be given time before leaving for one of the more than one hundred  tropical islands  that are distributed between the  Gulf of Thailand  or the  Andaman Sea , always a highlight in  all-inclusive trips to Thailand . On these islands, you can find young people in search of nightlife and also those who seek silence or solely the whisper of the waves. And for the most restless, the north of the country offers all the possibilities and the mystery of the jungle in the  Golden Triangle of Thailand.

Thailand  is a land of freedom. When you step foot in the country it seduces you with what you see, hear, taste, smell and feel. That's why traveling to Thailand means immersing yourself in an unbeatable cocktail of floating markets and tuk-tuks, pad thai and tropical fruits, waterfalls and lakes, skyscrapers and houseboats, lanterns illuminating the night sky, sun and rain, sea and mountains, monks with saffron robes and Buddhist rituals, rivers and forests, flowers and offerings, caves and coral reefs, golden Buddhas and temples with pointed roofs.Thai’s are experts at making floral arrangements that they exhibit as ornamentation in their sacred places. Mythical  Thailand  is like a flower; delicate, colorful, aromatic, beautiful, wild, romantic and natural. Do not hesitate to explore; a magical trip awaits you.

Thailand Tour Packages

Places to visit in thailand.

1. Bangkok :  A city that never sleeps, Bangkok, the capital of Thailand is a modern-day melting pot of contrasting cultures and faiths. Here, towering skyscrapers stand in harmony next to temples and monasteries. The luxury malls and shopping centres compete with the street bazaars and floating markets. Cuisines - both Thai and from around the world are showcased in all their glory on the streets as well as in rooftop restaurants.

2. Pattaya :  Popularly known as Thailand's night capital and party hub, Pattaya is a coastal city in the Gulf of Thailand. The beaches and islands in Pattaya offer a wide variety of watersports, snorkelling options, restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops, making it ideal for families, friends and couples. The nightlife in Pattaya is quite famous for being loud, flashy and handsy.

3. Phuket :  Golden beaches, numerous offshore islands, upbeat markets, a high octane nightlife and thrilling watersports characterise Phuket in a nutshell. Those who shy away from dizzy bright lights and alcohol will find themselves at the Cabaret shows or even at the ever-popular street markets. The Phuket Walking Street or Phuket Weekend markets are places where one can spend hours sifting through various clothes, souvenirs and novelty items.

4. Phi Phi Islands:  With their pristine waters and vibrant parties, these islands are a wonderful way to spend a few days in Thailand. With four other islands besides the large ones, Phi Phi houses Bida Nok, Bida Nai, Ko Mai Phai, is also known as Bamboo Island. Phi Phi Islands became famous after the 2000 Hollywood flick 'The Beach' that was shot in Ko Phi Phi Le. Ko Phi Phi Leh houses The "Viking Cave" which is a thriving industry that sells edible birds nests.

5. Krabi :  Krabi, a popular Southern Thai beach destination, is gaining popularity and is adored by many. Not as popular as Bangkok or Phuket, Krabi has its own charm and can manage to sweep you off your feet if you give it a chance.

6. Chiang Mai :  Unlike its southern counterparts, Chiang Mai is known for its laid back vibes, numerous temples and monasteries, crowded local markets, natural and historical sites and countryside with lush greenery. Catering to a large number of expats, young contemporary travellers and families alike, Chiang Mai is a backpacking haven where activities like hiking, cycling, rafting and a plethora of outdoor activities are popular.

7. Ayutthaya :  Ayutthaya, short for Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, is a small city in Thailand containing archaeological sites like temples, monasteries, palaces, etc. It lies just 80 kilometres north of Bangkok and hence is an ideal destination for a day trip from Bangkok. It is a beautiful city oozing history and culture and a UNESCO world heritage site. It derives its name from the Sanskrit word for the place Ayodhya of Ramayana, the birthplace of Lord Ram.

8. Khao Sok National Park:  Khao Sok National Park, in the Surat Thani province of Thailand, is the largest pristine forest in the area and is a small part of a rainforest that in yesteryears was bigger and denser than the Amazon rainforest. Rich and diverse in flora and fauna, the park is one of the best places to witness rare species such as Rafflesia flower, hornbill birds, gibbons and tigers. Punctuated by limestone cliffs, mountains, splendid sandstone and mudstone rocks, this is the wettest part of Thailand.

Things to Do in Thailand

1. Island Hopping Across Thailand :  Thailand has over 300 islands, and most of them are tourist attractions. So if you are going to Thailand, make sure to visit some of the popular islands, finding new beaches and bays in longtail boats. You can also rent a Kayak and tour through the karst formations, coves and the beaches at your own pace, away from the masses of tourist boats and passenger ferries.

2. Get a Thai Massage :  A trip to Thailand would be incomplete without getting a Thai massage. Thai massages are unique and famous all over the world for inculcating yogic and natural practices and elements for healing and rejuvenation.

3. Shop in the Floating Markets :  The floating markets of Thailand, especially those in and around Bangkok, adorn many magazine covers and posters, regarded as an iconic representation of the country. These markets along canals are mostly jam-packed with slender boats brimming with fresh produce, fruits, souvenirs and even food.

4. Ride a TukTuk : Tuk-Tuk - Thailand's very own automated rickshaw is another popular magazine cover staple. Found throughout the country, they are the cheaper mode of transport as compared to taxis. You can't miss riding on one while getting from one place to another as it makes for great photographs, fun conversations with the driver and it saves money too!!

5. Enjoy a Full Moon Party : Approx 30000 travellers from all over the world travel to the beaches of Koh Phangan to celebrate the full moon with a blast. These parties are full of lights, colours, music, dance and nonstop alcohol. And if you’re tired of dancing, go for a swim in the warm water of the sea or relax in the surrounding bar.

6. Watch a Muay Thai Fight : An integral part of Thai culture, Muay Thai or Thai boxing is a form of martial art which emphasises on the use of punches and kicks. Be sure to watch an exhibition of traditional fighters have a go at each other, showcasing why this traditional art form is one of the deadliest and most refined in the world.

7. Get a Sak Yant Tattoo : Sak Yant Tattoos are traditional tattoos done by monks with heated metal rods. It is believed that the tattoos are blessed and protect their bearers from ill health, injuries and also bring forth spiritual well being and good luck.

8. Watch a Ladyboy Cabaret Show : Thailand's cabaret shows stand out from regular cabaret shows around the world. The performers are ladyboys who are an accepted part of society and Thai culture. From elegant dances, songs and whirling acrobatics, these shows have it all.

9. Explore the Night Markets : Thailand is famous for its night markets. Almost all the cities in Thailand have night markets. These markets are a great place to get a glimpse of local culture, foods, live music, and souvenirs.

10. Interact with Elephants at Sanctuaries : Across the country, there are many sanctuaries and parks where these gentle giants are cared for and open to interaction with visitors. At these ethical sanctuaries and parks, visitors can choose to volunteer to bathe, feed and play with the elephants. Spreading awareness about elephant conversation is the primary cause which the sanctuaries work towards.

Why to Buy Thailand Tour Package?

Buying a Thailand tour package is important for any traveler, especially those looking to explore the diverse and enchanting offerings of this Southeast Asian gem. Considering the challenges mentioned earlier, let's delve into the reasons why purchasing a Thailand tour package is essential: 1. Local Expertise and Cultural Insights: Thailand tour packages often include experienced guides who possess in-depth knowledge about the country's history, culture, and top attractions. They can provide valuable insights during city tours, visits to ancient temples like Wat Pho, and excursions to unique floating markets like Damnoen Saduak. 2. Seamless Travel Arrangements: Thailand tour packages take care of all travel logistics, including transportation, accommodation, and activity bookings. This ensures a hassle-free and well-organized journey, especially for travelers who may not be familiar with local transport options or language barriers. Pre-arranged accommodations offer comfort and convenience, allowing travelers to fully immerse themselves in the wonders of Thailand. 3. Safety and Security: While Thailand is generally safe for travelers, having local support and guidance provided by a tour package can be reassuring, especially for those visiting for the first time. Tour operators prioritize the safety of their guests, providing valuable advice and assistance during their stay. 4. Time Optimization: Thailand offers a plethora of attractions and activities, and planning an itinerary that covers all the highlights can be time-consuming. Tour packages are designed to optimize travelers' time, ensuring they make the most of their visit. For example, a package may include a well-structured tour covering the bustling markets of Bangkok, the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya, and the serene beaches of Krabi in a seamless itinerary. 5. Cultural Immersion: Thailand's culture is rich and diverse, and tour packages often include opportunities for cultural experiences. This can include visits to local villages, traditional dance performances, or participation in authentic cooking classes. By purchasing a Thailand tour package, travelers can benefit from local expertise, seamless travel arrangements, safety and security, time optimization, and cultural immersion. These advantages help travelers overcome the challenges and ensure a rewarding and memorable experience in the "Land of Smiles."

Thailand Holiday

Whether it’s discovering multi-colored sea creatures off the coast of Phuket or dancing away the night at a full-moon party on Koh Phi-Phi, it won't take long for Thailand to capture your heart.

Thailand Hotel + Flights

Whether you’re visiting on a shoestring or you’re a luxury traveller, you’re spoiled for choice in Thailand. There are 29,898 hotels across the country starting at RM139 a night. Regardless of your budget, everyone likes to save money when they can. That’s why many travellers choose to bundle everything into a neat Thailand Holiday Package. Once you’ve sorted out your hotel, flights and rental car, all that will be left to do is explore the ancient temple of Wat Phra Chetuphon. And guess what? You can add a tour of that into your package as well.

Your Thailand Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Touch down at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and grab a cab to your accommodation. Eat a delicious Thai meal from a street vendor before hitting the capital’s best sights, such as Wat Phra Chetuphon, Chatuchak Weekend Market and the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun).

Day 2: Fly south to the magical Island of Phuket. Crystal clear waters and abundant sea life make this place a magnet for divers. If you’d rather stay on dry land, spend some time touring Big Buddha Phuket and Monkey Hill.

Day 6: Hop on a flight to Chiang Mai, Thailand’s relaxation capital. You could spend weeks exploring its Buddhist temples and bright green rice fields.

Thailand Information

Celebrate Songkran (Thai New Year). It runs from April 13-15 each year and is celebrated in some places with massive water fights in the streets!

Lured by the frenzy of Thailand’s capital? Check out our Bangkok Holiday Packages .

Tropical vacay to bangkok & koh s..., frequently asked questions about thailand tour packages, ques. how much does a thailand trip cost.

Ans. You can book your Thailand tour package at a reasonable price, depending on your needs and preferences. There are multiple options available online for travellers. For example, a 5 nights and 6 days package will cost you approximately ₹ 47,644 per person, covering Phuket and Krabi. Similarly, a 4 nights and 5 days package for Bangkok and Pattaya will cost you around ₹ 38,198 per person. Thailand has options for every budget.

Ques. How much should I budget for a 3-day trip to Thailand?

Ans. You will easily find a suitable 3-day Thailand tour package that covers your preferred cities/destinations. While budget estimates vary depending on the location, choice of accommodation and other activities, you can go by estimated costs. A three-day Thailand trip will require approximately ₹ 45,000-50,000 per person, including accommodation at a good four-star hotel, transfers, sightseeing costs and food.

Ques. Is Thailand a visa-free destination for Indians?

Ans. While booking your Thailand tour package, you should note the visa requirements with care. Indian citizens will need visas to enter the country. However, if you are visiting only as a tourist, then you can get a visa on arrival, provided your stay does not exceed two weeks. Foreigners should always carry their passports in the country along with a photocopy.

Ques. How to plan a budget Thailand trip?

Ans. It is possible to book a Thailand tour package at an attractive price, provided you compare available options online and go for the best deals on flights and accommodation. Once that is done, there are a few other tips that will help you enjoy the multifarious delights of the country on a budget: Avoid taking taxis from the airport. You can save money with the Airport Rail Link trains that connect to the MRT and Skytrain networks. There are shuttle buses (free) which link to affordable city buses alongside. Do not take domestic flights to access various destinations in Thailand. Instead, choose public buses or train rides. You can take overnight buses or trains to reach several destinations too. BKS (Baw Khaw Saw) buses are readily available and more affordable for tourists. Skip the Tuk-Tuks and take local taxis or pickup trucks instead to save more money on shorter jaunts. Remember that ride sharing may be costlier than what you are used to. You can affordably rent motorcycles/scooters for higher savings too. Eat delicious local food at the night markets and street-side stalls. This will help you save on trip costs like no other! You will find various bustling markets and food stalls throughout the day and evenings across the country. Feast on the choicest Thai meals and snacks at unbelievably low prices. Many smaller monasteries are free to visit, while hot springs in Chiang Mai are more affordable than spa treatments. Thai massages are also available at affordable rates across Thai monasteries, vocational training institutions and more.

Ques. What is the best time to visit Thailand?

Ans. Make sure you book your Thailand tour package anytime between the months of November and April. This is the peak tourist season in the country, with lower humidity and comforting sunshine. The evenings are breezy and pleasant for travellers during this period. The off-season is the period between April and May and July to September. The former is when there is scorching heat to contend with, while the latter stretch witnesses heavy rainfall.

Ques. What is the cost of a Thailand visa from India?

Ans. Arranging the visa is an integral part of your Thailand tour package. Here are some of the approximate charges that you can expect, depending on the visa type and category: e-Visa- ₹ 7,499 (validity up to one month, with a stay-period of 15 days and processing time of 2-3 days) e-Visa Express- ₹ 11,999 (this has a faster processing time of 24 hours, with the same features as the regular e-Visa) Thailand Tourist Visa (Sticker Visa)- ₹ 11,999 (validity up to 3 months with a stay period up to 60 days and processing time of 3-4 days) Thailand Business Visa (Sticker Visa)- ₹ 11,999 (validity up to 3 months with a stay period up to 90 days and processing time of 3-4 days)

These include the following: Bangkok- It is one of Asia’s most famous cities, popular for its plethora of cultural landmarks, delicious food, shopping opportunities and a lot more. Phuket- A nightlife hub, this beachside destination is immensely popular with tourists looking for fun and merriment.

They each offer something unique to travellers.

Ques. What is the best currency to take to Thailand?

Ans. Sort out the currency requirements while booking your Thailand tour package. The local currency is THB or the Thai Baht . You should exchange at least some Indian rupees into Baht upon your arrival in the country. Keep denominations like 50, 100 and even 20 Baht to pay for smaller transactions and tips. You can exchange your money into THB across currency exchange centres and banks in Thailand, along with the airport.

Ques. Can I use Indian debit cards in Thailand?

Ans. If you are planning to book a Thailand tour package soon, then you should know about the ways of making payments in the country. You can use Indian debit cards in Thailand and withdraw money from local ATMs if you wish. However, your card should work in the country (confirm this with your bank before departure) and ATMs will charge you for the transaction. Most ATMs in the country usually charge 200 Thai Baht for each withdrawal. It is best to carry as much cash as possible, after exchanging Indian rupees into the Thai Baht.

Just finished the 12 day Thailand tour with Dan (and joe!!) as our guides and I had the best time! Everything was arranged so we didn’t have to worry about transportation, accommodation or activities. Dan was always available if someone needed help or had a question, and his passion for travel and wildlife was contagious! Couldn’t recommend Intro travel enough, I’ve already put a deposit down for a future trip.

Thai Intro 18 Day Tour

Thai Intro 18 Day

Just finished the 18 day tour with Dan (and Joe!) and it was truly epic! I had the time of my life…didn’t have to worry about anything, perfectly organised and I met some amazing people! I had to have a medical procedure on my foot during the last leg of the tour, which was pretty traumatic! Luckily Dan went above and beyond, took me to hospital visits and was a shoulder to cry on (quite literally!). Along with his and others’ support I only missed one activity, which I’m soo thankful for. Dan is a credit to Intro, and I’ve definitely fallen for Thailand ❤️. Deposit paid for my next tour, and I can’t wait to do it all over again! ????

Had an amazing time. Legend Travel Group made the whole experience so memorable. A special shout out to Emmy, Arti and Ben our local guides in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. There were no unexpected surprises. Whatever was promised was delivered. I initially had so many questions but Tony Bui from Legend Travel Group was so patient with me. This trip is definitely one for the books!

Fantastic Circle of Thailand Tour - 10 Days Tour

Fantastic Circle of Thailand Tour - 10 Days

This was another great tour from Legend Travel Group. I wanted a hassle free tour where I am picked up from the airport and hotel in a nice comfortable van with knowledgeable friendly tour guides then dropped off back at the hotel. The hotels and tours each day was exactly what I wanted and expected that's why I chose Legend Travel Group again after using them on the Classic Indochina - 17 Day tour. I will never forget seeing the Elephants paint, play soccer or being lifted into the air with their powerful trunk that can lift over 600lbs. I was also able to pet real tigers, snorkel over corral reefs and try lots of local foods and nightlife. Great tour and great people !!!!!

Our tour guide was amazing and so friendly. The schedule was great but left enough free time for us as a group to explore. There were some small issues but were all sorted very quickly by tourradar and expected with the country having recently reopened.

Reviews of Fully Guided Tours in Thailand

i have only positive things to say about the thailand tour. dan and joe made the last 3 weeks so special and i couldn’t be more grateful. such a patient and warm environment and 18 of the best days of my life. and don’t get me started on rhianna. that girls a superstar. thank you for a wonderful trip, i’ll miss it more than you know ?????
Incredible Experience! I did the 15 Day North - South Thailand Tour with Jamie and Jonny as my group leaders and I genuinely couldn't have had a better time. The itinerary was perfect and fitted in so many amazing experiences that I wouldn't have even know about if I had travelled by myself. The trip ranged from the most chilled night in Khao Sok (which is gorgeous!) to fun filled nights out in Krabi, Phi Phi and Bangkok, snorkelling off of speed boats, vibey nights in jazz bars (Chang Mai), all rounded off with the most incredible and ethical elephant experience. There is literally something for everyone on this tour and I cannot recommend it enough! (For Jonny: please remember everything on this tour is optional) For me though, the best part of the trip was the people! I built some beautiful friendships, both with the other travellers and with Jamie and Jonny, who were the perfect group leaders. They were always there if needed (safety first), but got involved with everything and always felt like a friend, setting a wholesome vibe for the tour from the very first night. If I get the opportunity I will definitely go on more tours with Feel Free! P.s. If you're thinking of booking don't hesitate! and if you have any questions about any of the tours, Adam and Matt are insanely speedy at responding to questions on the websites chat function.
I've just finished the 9 days trip to Thailand and I've just loved it!!! Both of our group leaders (Jamie and Ash) are amazing! Always super friendly, caring, fun, willing to help and organised. I knew I could always count on them if needed! The itinerary was brilliant too! All the activities were fun and/or interesting and I've seen beautiful places. I've also been extremely happy with the group of people I met, everyone was super pleasant and friendly! I could not have asked for a better experience!

Popular Thailand Tour Packages

Thailand tour packages faqs.

Q. Which is the best time to visit Thailand? A. As you finalise one of the Thailand packages, consider first its seasons and which most ideal for a visit. Although Thailand is a year-round destination, still it is a good idea to plan your travels in the cool and dry season. The time from November to April marks the cold season, bringing in tourists from all over the world. It is the best time to pursue water activities such as snorkelling and diving in Koh Samui, Phuket and Krabi. It is a good time to visit Phi Phi Islands in the south. In this season the days are warm with a gentle breeze floating down from the sea, with cooler nights. The humidity is also low. Even at this time the day temperature reaches a maximum of around 30 degree Celsius in Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui. You need to however avoid Koh Samui in this season as it receives torrential rainfall. Avoid July to August as it is the monsoon season in Thailand and frequent heavy rains can derail your itinerary, add to that the chaos on Bangkok’s already-bustling streets. May to June are the summer months when Thailand is quite hot and a time often picked by budget travellers as accommodation and flight prices typically go down owing to very low footfalls, the off- season in Thailand. Q. Are there direct flights from India to Thailand? A. Ahead of closing one of the Thailand tour packages, you need to first book your flights and check whether there are direct flights from the city where you live to Bangkok, Thailand’s capital. There are direct flights to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhoomi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. You can fly onboard domestic carriers like IndiGo, national carrier Air India, GoFirst, Vistara and SpiceJet aside from international airlines serving the route such as Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Druk Air, Emirates, Vietjet Air, Thai Smile to name a few. A direct flight from Delhi to Bangkok takes about 4.5 hours, with flights available at a wonderful frequency through the week at decent intervals. You can fly directly to Bangkok from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. You can even fly directly from Delhi to Phuket onboard GoFirst, Thai Airways, IndiGo among others, with the average flight time being 4 hours and 30 minutes. Q. Which is the best beach destination in Thailand? A. There are several Thailand holiday packages to choose from. But you need to first decide the main purpose of your visit to Thailand, whether it is to experience the street scene, shopping or lazing on its balmy beaches. If it is the latter, you will be left spoilt for choice. Thailand has some stunning beaches lapped by azure waters. Thailand’s beaches are ideal whether you are a solo traveller, a large family, a group of friends or a honeymooning couple. The beach destinations cater to backpackers as well as the elderly and those travelling with children. Powdery white sands, limestone karsts, cosy coves and coconut palms characterise a typical Thai beach where diving, snorkelling and cave exploration opportunities galore, and where the life at a resort centres around the beaches. Krabi is known for its sea cliffs and the tropical vegetation that cover them, also popular with cliff climbers. Surfing enthusiasts prefer the waters of Koh Lipe while the kite-boarders like it at Hua Hin, with divers choosing Koh Tao for the opportunities it offers to spot whale sharks and other tropical fish. Phi Phi Islands, Pattaya and Phuket are ideal for beach bums who prefer to go for a lazy swim and generally soak up the sun while reading a book. For some holistic healing and breathtaking coastal scenery, go nowhere other than Koh Samui. The sunsets on the beach, the seafood offerings and the scope for endless walks make it a perfect retreat. Q. What is the climate of Thailand like? A. Thailand has three seasons, the summer, the monsoon and the winter. Summer begins from March and lasts through June with temperatures hovering between 33 and 48 degree Celsius in the day and plummeting to 27 degree Celsius in the night. The rainy months between July and November receive frequent to heavy rainfall towards early evening with temperature averaging around 32 degree in the day and a pleasant 16 degree Celsius in the nights. The winter or dry season between late November through February has day temperature hovering around 32 degree while the nights can be cool at 12 degree Celsius. This is invariable the most preferred season to visit Thailand. Q. Is it safe to drink the local water in Thailand? A. Bottled water is preferred not just by the tourists but the locals as well. Those that use tap water prefer to boil it first before drinking. Take care when you are pouring ice in your drinks because they could well come from the tap water that may have bacteria or chemicals. But if you are having it at a proper cafe or restaurant, you don’t have to worry too much as the ice comes from government-checked ice factories. It is commonly known fact to not buy a bottle whose seal is broken. But never drink the local water at the street stalls and vendors. Q. Which is the most commonly spoken language in Thailand? A. Thai is the national language and also the most widely spoken one. While there are multiple dialects of Thai depending on the tribe and the ethnic group, English is the definite second language here. In Bangkok’s major business and commercial districts, English is spoken and written. Also in the hotels, shops and restaurants as well as most tourist landmarks English is easily understood and spoken. Q. Can I buy a local SIM card in Bangkok for my phone? A. It is very easy to procure one. You can buy a SIM card from a local Thai network provider and this can be used for placing both local and international calls. At the point of sale you will have to produce an identification proof such as passport. You can buy these phone cards even from the 7/11 outlets. Q. What are some important cultural do’s and don’ts in Thailand? A. Thai folks are polite and peace-loving and look down upon open confrontations. Also, do not show your impatience or frustration because it is considered a sign of weakness. The Thais believe that all conflicts and issues can be solved with a smile. At a temple you are required to wear a full leg covering pants or skirt. Women should not touch monks and everybody is expected to remove their shoes while entering a local’s house or a temple. PDA too is frowned upon. The Thais typically do not shake hands as well. Wai is the most common form of greeting said by folding your hands together. Q. What are the requirements of a Thai tourist visa? A. The documents required include a passport with at least a six month validity. A visa application form correctly filled out, your recent passport size photograph, your round trip air tickets and financial proof that you have 20,000 Thai Baht per person and 40,000 Thai Baht per family in your kitty. These documents need to be submitted to your nearest Thai embassy or consulate. The tourist visa ranges from three to six months. Q. What is the most commonly used currency in Thailand? A. Thai Baht is the national currency of Thailand. 1 Thai Baht is equal to approximately 2.23 Indian Rupees. You need substantial local currency to get around in Thailand because USD is not commonly accepted here. Ensure you have sufficient funds in your multi-currency card and some cash. It is better to purchase the Thai Baht locally as you will get a better rate here than in your home country. Q. Is it okay to bargain for anything I want to buy in Thailand? A. When an item comes with a price tag you are not expected to bargain. Although bargaining is central to the Thai shopping experience, make sure you have a healthy approach towards it. Don’t go at it tooth and nail, ensure that both you and the vendor reach a price that is comfortable to both parties involved. Hard bargaining is considered rude. Bangkok’s Sukhumvit district usually marks up the prices and you can get them to give you a good 60% discount. At other places around 10% is acceptable. Q. How should I pack for a Thailand holiday? A. Depends on the season in which you are visiting. In the monsoon months make sure you bring rain gear, closed shoes etc. In the dry winter season, get cotton clothes, but make sure you have some long-sleeved ones too with conservative necklines and full pants or skirts for visiting the temples. Beaches are of course another story. In the dry season, for the evenings, you could get a shrug or something slightly warm to keep you cosy when the temperature dips to a 12 degree Celsius. Q. Are there are direct flights from India to Thailand? A. Yes, from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhoomi or Don Mueang Airport there are direct flights by IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia among others. The journey time is approximately 4.5 hours and there are frequent flights through the week.

One of the biggest reasons why Thailand sees millions of foreign tourists coming in from all over the world is because it’s so accessible and affordable. Its lure however lies in the unmistakable charm of rural villages that exist side by side with its flashy cities. Whether you’re on thailand tour for the simple beauty of the beaches or if you want to sample some of the delicious and authentic Thai food or if you want to let your hair down and party, or even if you want to enjoy the delightful Thai culture, there’s something for everyone on Thailand tour packages. The Thai are extremely friendly and welcome people with their trademark bright smiles.

There’s so much to see and do in Thailand tour packages, that you will really be spoiled for choice. It all depends on why you’ve come here. Whether you’re here on a honeymoon with your loved one or just to relax and have a good time, Thailand beckons everybody with ease and continues to surprise you consistently with their stunning sunsets, delightful blue beaches and some of its lush green nature trails. If you love shopping, then Bangkok is your best bet although you can find much to see and experience here as well as there are numerous palaces, wats and even markets here. Thailand also has some national parks where you will be struck by the beauty of their glorious and verdant jungles, frothing rivers, eerie caves and splendid waterfalls. It’s no wonder that people keep returning to Thailand trip.

Best Time to Visit Thailand

Since it is a tropical country, the best time to visit Thailand would be during winter, which falls in December and January . Since there isn’t any rain or relentless heat, being on the beach is quite enjoyable and comfortable. The winters are pleasant and even enjoyable, and the weather is fresh and not humid at all. It’s still a good idea to take a long a light jacket or sweater in case you might feel a little chilly. Experience the Thailand tour packages with Thomas Cook and

With December being the most popular time for people to visit Thailand, it’s quite possible that several famed beach destinations such as Krabi, Phuket and Koh Samui are already booked and you will not find tickets or accommodation unless you book ahead of time. Many people come here especially during Christmas holidays and this means that hotels can become very pricey.

Another good time to visit Thailand is in January especially during the New Year celebrations which can get quite chaotic but also fun. The Chinese New Year which comes during the end of January or in early February is also a good time to visit as Bangkok’s Chinatown comes alive with colours, firecrackers and dancing dragons on parades.

How to Reach Thailand

One of the best things about Thailand is that it is very accessible from India. The best way to reach Thailand would be by flight. Thailand’s capital, Bangkok is connected to numerous Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata through direct flights. Some of the airlines that fly to Thailand are Thai Airways, Air India, Spice Jet, IndiGo, Air Asia, Emirates and Sri Lankan Airlines to name a few. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is located around 30km from Bangkok and is one of the best airports in the country. Once you land here, there are several options to reach your destination in the city, such as taxis, shuttle buses, public buses and the Airport Rail Link.

A rarely used option to travel to Thailand is by road. This is for those who love adventure and road trips as the road you’ll have to take is the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway and is a whopping 3200km drive. So, it will easily take you a week to reach Thailand by road. It’s also a good idea to do this trip between November and February as the weather is best during this time. Do make sure you have an international driving license before you set out on the trip.

Places to Visit in Thailand

One of the reasons why people love to select a Thailand tour packages is because there’s something for everyone. Thanks to the numerous places to visit in Thailand , you can either choose the beach with all the golden sand and cool surf, or you can go crazy shopping or simply stop and marvel at the many architectural wonders of the wats and palaces. No matter where you go, you will love every moment of it here. Thailand isn’t just an exotic destination. It’s so much more. Our Thailand tour packages offering the best hotels, sightseeing and other activities. Here are some of the places to see in Thailand that you must include in your list.

Koh Phi Phi

  • The Grand Palace

Sukhothai Old City

  • Railay Beach

Krabi is a popular sightseeing destination and once you’re here, you might not be sure where to go but do make a note to visit Koh Phi Phi islands . It’s a popular tourist spot and so there will be crowds wherever you visit. Despite being devastated in the 2004 tsunami, Koh Phi Phi has emerged much stronger and there are several resorts here that are very popular among visitors. The Monkey Beach is also quite popular with tourists and as the name suggests, you’ll come across many of them here. You can visit nearby islands on a rented kayak and if you’re looking for some spectacular sunsets to click away, head to Long Beach.

The Grand Palace

One of the most important places to see in Thailand is The Grand Palace which is simply magnificent. You will be spellbound by its many halls, temples and some of the relics here. If you walk around a little, you will come across the Wat PhraKaeo, which is the temple of the Emerald Buddha. You may have heard about this temple but it’s worth seeing it in person. Not too far from here is the Wat Pho or the temple of the Reclining Buddha, with a huge gold covered Buddha that is in the reclining position. Even if you’re in Bangkok for a very short while, do make it a point to visit The Grand Palace for its many treasures.

If you venture towards Northern Thailand, you should certainly visit Pai, which is very interesting for various reasons. It’s a small, quaint town where you won’t find many tourists. What you will find are numerous backpackers and even hippies and the vibe of the place is certainly very intriguing. For a very laid back sort of vacation, people come to Pai and enjoy the waterfalls, or the temples and there’s a spot of shopping at the local night market that can be done too, if you’re in the mood for some quick consumerism. If you are more of a nature person, head outside the town to the Pai Canyon or Kong Lan which you can climb in the early morning. The Pembok Waterfall is also not too far from here.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not a history buff but do try and make a stop at Sukhothai Old City. This is a UNESCO World Heritage city and you can find plenty of historical sites here, and the beautiful ruins might make you feel a little melancholic, but the feeling passes when you see more of it. As it’s quite far from Bangkok and other beachy destinations, you won’t find this very crowded which makes it the perfect place to explore in peace. You can come across several wats, temple ruins and other such structures which eloquently tell the story of a time gone by.

One of the amazing places to see in Thailand is Ayutthaya, with its ruins, its palaces and temples and it perfectly epitomizes Thai heritage. Since it’s close from Bangkok, you can always travel here easily, and you’ll be surprised to see the vast differences in the cosmopolitan capital and the calm and quiet ruins of the historic Ayutthaya. If you love taking photos for Instagram, you should most certainly visit the city because it’s certainly a delight for shutterbugs.

Railay Beach

If you’re confused about the places to see in Thailand, look no further from Railay Beach. The brilliantly blue water, the soft golden sands, the tree-lined coast make it a stunning bit of paradise that you won’t regret visiting. Railay is popular for its beaches as well as rock climbing and many people come here for some of the excellent water sport activities such as white-water rafting, snorkeling, and kayaking. If you are in Krabi, then you can reach Railay easily by taking a boat.

Food is one of the crucial reasons people love to visit Thailand. Spicy, tangy, tart, sweet, it’s all about beautifully balanced flavors that explode on your tongue and make you dive in for more. Here are some of the famed dishes that you simply must try when you visit Thailand.

Tom Yung Goong

If you can tolerate spice, then go for it. This delicious and aromatic soup is one of the most famous dishes to emerge from Thailand and with good reason too. Flavoured with chilli, galangal, kaffir lime, shallots and of course, fresh prawns, fish sauce and coconut cream, this is one bowl of goodness you won’t be able to leave.

Unmistakably fresh, Som Tam is a green papaya salad that uses the best combination of flavours, bringing together green papaya with carrots, tomatoes, crushed peanuts, dried shrimp, garlic, fish sauce and chillies to create a delightful experience in your mouth. Be warned; you’ll want to keep eating more.

Could Thai food ever be complete without the quintessential Pad Thai? This fried noodle dish is made with chicken or shrimp and since you can find it in every corner where street food is sold, you can have some of this delicious food whenever you’re in the mood for it. It also helps that it isn’t too expensive.

Things to Do in Thailand

It’s not possible to be bored when you are in Thailand. Even if you’ve come to simply relax by the beach, you’ll find that it’s quite possible to walk into a teeming night market and get a bargain or two or pop some grilled meat into your mouth at any of the street food restaurants. Here are some of the top things to do in Thailand .

Walk up to Wat Pho

Show elephants some love in elephant nature park.

  • Cruise down a Floating Market

Head over to Ko Mak

Snack on delicious street food, take a dip in the erawan waterfalls in the erawan national park, shop in chiang mai night bazaar.

If you’re already visiting The Grand Palace, don’t make the mistake of not checking out Wat Pho , which is the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This temple is famed for the idol of the reclining Buddha that goes up to 46 meters in length and is covered in gold. The temple is said to be from 1782 at least. As guides will inform you once you’re there, the Reclining Buddha is meant to depict the passing of Buddha into nirvana after death.

Many people visit animal sanctuaries in Thailand, unaware that these are hotbeds of animal cruelty. An excellent alternative is the Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand. This is a rehabilitation center that rescues and helps elephants along with other animals. Visiting these animals, showing them love, gives them hope and helps in their healing process.

Cruise down a Floating Market

Floating markets in Thailand are common enough in Bangkok and they’re one of the biggest attractions there. Narrow canals filled with boats where colourful fruits and flowers are sold from the moment dawn breaks is an exotic enough sight. Add to it the energetic and enthusiastic vendors trying to get your attention and you won’t be able to look away. While Bangkok has several floating markets, don’t forget to check out DamnonSaduak, which is the biggest among them. As part of the tour, you get to paddle through the floating market on a longtail boat and you can even nibble on some fresh fruit and delicious Thai food here.

Away from the madding crowd in Thailand might be very difficult but not impossible. Ko Mak is one of the tropical jewels in Thailand, where you can breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the clear blue water and dip your feet into the soft white sand. Ko Mak is a privately owned island and so you can’t expect it to be like Pattaya or any of the other islands. For one, there is no nightlife here, so be prepared to be disappointed if that’s what you’ve been looking for here.

Delicious Thai food is one of the biggest reasons that people come for Thailand vacations most of the time. After all, where else can you expect to find authentic, tasty and yet affordable Thai food? The best way to experience this would be in the many street food carts and restaurants where you can find the most amazing Pad Thai, or Som Tam and several other dishes. You can also try some of the chilled fresh fruit that’s available almost everywhere.

If you head towards Kanchanaburi town, you will get to hear about the famed Erawan National Park which is most well-known for the gushing seven-tiered waterfalls. While it’s certainly refreshing to take a dip here, you’ll be surprised by how much you’ll enjoy exploring the different tiers as you walk through the jungle trail. It’s quite an adventure and one you certainly don’t want to miss.

Love bargaining for good deals. Then you’ll love the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar which has numerous colorful stalls along with some questionable designer items. Nevertheless, it’s enough to pique your interest and you’ll be surprised at just how much you end up buying once you’re here.
