Click here to enter NATAS fair website!

The first NATAS travel fairs was launched in 1987. By 1998, the consumer travel fairs were so popular that they became a biannual affair, giving rise to the present NATAS Travel and NATAS Holidays fairs.

Today, the biannual NATAS travel fairs have grown to be the largest of its kind in Singapore, featuring a unique one-stop-shop concept where not only outbound travel agents offer their products and services, but also cruise lines, airlines, hotels/resorts, National Tourism Organisations and travel-related companies.

NATAS travel fairs continue to remain popular with the Singaporean travelers and are known for providing the best travel deals and tour packages. To date, the biannual NATAS travel fairs have attracted more than 2.4 million visitors since 1987.

Recent travel fairs have also shown that the Singaporean travellers’ top destinations of choice remain unchanged: the evergreen destinations like Europe, China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, all of which are featured in prominence at the NATAS fairs. In addition to these, Singaporeans are venturing off the beaten path to emerging destinations. The cruise sector has also been identified as an evolving market sector, alongside the growing popularity of FIT and custom itinerary packages.

NATAS believes its biannual fairs remain a relevant platform and stepping board from which the Singapore travellers can access the rest of the world and through which our travel agent members can effectively launch and promote their quality products and services.

NATAS remains committed to looking into ways to improve on and reinvent the fairs so as to appeal to more market segments.

Look out for safari tours, bargains at Natas fair from Feb 24

travel fair singapore 2022

SINGAPORE - Travellers looking for bargains can shop for tour package deals at the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (Natas) fair, as the travel sector continues its rebound since international borders reopened.

Returning for its 57th edition, the fair will be held from Feb 24 to Feb 26 at Singapore Expo Hall 5.

Travel agencies will form the bulk of the more than 50 exhibitors at the event, along with cruise operators and national tourist organisations from Thailand, Japan and Taiwan.

Visitors can expect a plethora of travel deals and tour packages at the fair, themed “The World of Natas”.

For instance, Chan Brothers Travel will be offering tour packages to China after the recent announcement on its reopening of borders.

Travellers to China will be able to enjoy some of the best-selling destinations pre-Covid-19, such as Beijing, Jiangnan, Yunnan and Fujian.

Mr Jeremiah Wong, senior marketing communications manager for Chan Brothers Travel, told The Straits Times that safari tours are also returning for the first time since the pandemic, and travellers to East Africa can go on a 10-day tour to watch the migration of more than two million animals.

EU Holidays, one of the exhibitors at the upcoming fair, will also be offering package deals to China. The agency also has special curated theme tours like marathon, cycling and fly-cruise packages, said Ms Mandy Chen, marketing manager of EU Holidays.

The Natas travel fair was last held in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Many people are looking to explore the world as travel returns to pre-pandemic levels, said Mr Steven Ler, president of Natas, adding that they can seek advice from the exhibitors at the fair on their holiday needs.

NATAS travel fair returns with high hopes

travel fair singapore 2022

The National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) is bringing back its signature NATAS Holidays 2022 over August 12 to 14 at Singapore Expo Hall 5.

The show, branded as the only premier travel fair in Singapore, will feature more than 40 exhibitors from the travel and tourism ecosystem, including NTOs, travel agencies, hotel companies and cruise specialists.

While NATAS was not available for comment at press time, exhibitors Chan Brothers Travel and Korea Tourism Organisation told TTG Asia that the return of the travel fair was timely, as Singapore residents are eager to catch up on lost holidays.

“We are thrilled that leisure travel is roaring back with bookings and enquiries rising exponentially,” said Jeremiah Wong, spokesperson for Chan Brothers Travel, which will take up a 252m 2 booth at NATAS Holidays 2022.

He added: “2022 is the chapter of our industry’s resurgence and we are positive that 2023 will be the year that tourism records a strong bounce back to pre-pandemic levels as the market stabilises.”

Jamie Chua, marketing manager with Korea Tourism Organization (Singapore Office), said the event would be instrumental in restoring consumers’ confidence in travel, “by demonstrating that the travel industry is ready to rise above the pandemic”.

“We wish to bring back the joy of travel to everyone in Singapore,” Chua added.

To inspire travel and encourage bookings, Korea Tourism Organization (Singapore Office) has planned a series of workshops at its booth and various communications centred on special interest holidays. It will also give away tickets to a special showcase at Victoria Theatre in September for purchases made at the travel fair.

“We would like to encourage our visitors to go deeper into South Korea where they can experience and explore different parts of (of the country) through K-cycling, K-trekking and K-food,” revealed Chua.

The tourism office will, in particular, highlight the region of Jeollanamdo, home to UNWTO 2021 Best Tourism Village and recognised as Land of K-Gourmet. It has partnered with Singapore lifestyle and entertainment magazine, U-Weekly , on a campaign titled UTRAVEL to Korea to showcase the region and offer an October tour that will be led by a mystery personality.

Access to South Korea has vastly improved on the back on several new air links from Singapore, she noted. Air Premia , Jeju Air, Scoot and T-way are among the airlines that have recently launched new services from Singapore, and Chua said more would follow in the coming months.

Chan Brothers Travel is also determined to convert travel intentions into action on the show grounds, and will present its widest selection of dates and confirmed departures, as well as numerous offers and new itinerary launches, including its popular celebrity-led tour series.

Wong hopes “astute travellers” will book and secure their seats at the August show, so as to beat the potential price hikes in the marketplace. He noted that the price of travel continues to be volatile and sensitive to surging airfares due to limited seat inventory.

Chan Brothers Travel expects strong bookings for the second half of the year until March or April 2023, with year-end and spring travel drawing particularly high demand from Singapore residents.

Back after 2-year hiatus, Natas fair sees younger crowd, travellers opting for more 'exotic' destinations

SINGAPORE — After a two-year hiatus, the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (Natas) fair returned and was held at the Singapore Expo on Friday (Aug 12), welcoming crowds hungry for "revenge travel".

  • Held from Aug 12 to 14, the Natas fair sees 21 travel agencies taking part
  • Visitors to the fair seem more willing to head to more exotic locales that were less popular before the Covid-19 pandemic
  • Younger people, who generally prefer free-and-easy travel, are also increasingly signing up with tour agencies

travel fair singapore 2022

Tour operators at the convention and exhibition venue in Changi said that the turnout was better than expected, though they observed that some travel preferences have changed.

For instance, they were seeing a trend of younger people turning to agencies  and signing up for tours.

Mr Jeremiah Wong, senior marketing communications manager from Chan Brothers Travel, said: "Customers who are used to travelling 'free and easy' are coming to us to book tours as well, especially those who are taking their parents along."

Ms Michell Devina Ngan, marketing manager at the Travel Corporation, said that her company has received sign-ups from young couples as well, possibly due to the need to navigate travel restrictions with ease.

Mr Shawn Patrick, 20, said that this was the first time he had gone to the travel fair. He normally travels free and easy. “I am planning a trip for my parents,” he said.

In spite of rising costs, travellers are now more keen to take up single-destination packages.

Retired businessman Steven Oh, 61, who had recently returned from Thailand, said that he was planning to go on a package tour to either Australia or New Zealand around the end of this year.

Having browsed through several packages at the Natas fair, he is not too bothered about the rise in package tour costs, which travel operators said have jumped by up to 20 per cent, mainly fuelled by an increase in air travel costs.

“I think it's a good time to revisit countries and have a good time... Even at a higher cost, I would rather have the travel agency make all the arrangements for me and my wife, so that we can focus on relaxing,” Mr Oh added.

He was among several customers interviewed by TODAY who expressed their desire to travel, despite the higher costs.

travel fair singapore 2022

Private-hire car driver Tan Whye Ngee, 60, who booked a tour to Europe during the fair, said: “I believe that the prices are value for money and I did not want to waste time.”

A former journalist who wanted to be known only as Madam Xu, 62, said that she did not wish to postpone travelling any more.

“You can walk, you can see, you must go,” she quipped.

She said that she was looking to book a trip to Hokkaido, Japan, preferring to go to a place that is less crowded due to Covid-19 concerns.

At the moment, China and Taiwan are closed for consumer leisure travel. Hong Kong has mandatory hotel quarantine for overseas arrivals, while South Korea recently introduced polymerase chain reaction tests for travellers entering the country.

Some other people at the Natas fair would like to have more travel options, especially to Southeast Asian countries.

Preschool teacher Sarmiah Safrinah, 49, who is looking to travel this December, remarked that she did not see much offerings for Thailand , Vietnam and Bali in Indonesia, adding that destinations such as South Korea and Japan were promoted "more aggressively".

Retired aircraft engineer Vincent Toh, 56, also said that the options were "limited and uninteresting", wishing for more free-and-easy travel.

TRAVELLERS’ NEEDS HAVE CHANGED, AGENCIES SAY

A total of 21 travel agencies are participating in the fair, which runs until Sunday.

Most of the agencies who spoke with TODAY said that the turnout and number of deals closed were around or above expectations.

Ms Kelly Toh, head of the marketing department at Commonwealth Travel Services, noted a post-pandemic preference for exotic destinations and single-destination trips.

“Travellers are looking for relatively unusual places such as Morocco and Turkey, as compared to other more conventional destinations,” she said.

travel fair singapore 2022

Mr Zane Neo, public relations coordinator for LGE travel, noticed that many people turned up at the fair knowing exactly where they wish to go, confirming travel arrangements in “as fast as five minutes”.

Despite the travel agency generally being a sunset industry, Mr Neo said that his company tries to meet customer needs by “doing customised tours with itineraries being more flexible to accommodate destinations preferred by customers”.

A search for YouGov Global Travel Profiles dated March 11 this year showed that 46 per cent of Singapore residents planned to take holidays, business, or other overseas trips in the next 12 months, compared to 41 per cent who said the same last year. The proportion of residents who did not plan to travel during this period was 40 per cent, compared to 42 per cent in 2021.

Crowds were back at the NATAS fair, which was last held in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SINGAPORE: Prices may have increased for some tour destinations but travellers are still willing to head abroad despite the cost.

The National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS) travel fair, last held in 2019, returned on Friday (Aug 12) for a three-day event at the Singapore Expo. It is billed as one of Singapore's largest consumer travel fairs.

More than 40 exhibitors including travel agents, airlines, cruise operators, hotels and national tourist organisations are involved in the event.

NATAS president Steven Ler said in response to CNA’s queries that the fair will “kickstart the season of safe travels" and pivot industry players back to near full operations.

“As more resources are being deployed, the entire supply chain is activated and businesses are revitalised,” he added.

About 80,000 to 100,000 visitors are expected over the three days, Mr Ler said, almost on par with pre-pandemic visitorship of about 108,000.

When CNA visited the fair around noon on Friday, the crowd was moderate but footfall started picking after 4pm.

travel fair singapore 2022

Some visitors were even waiting for doors to open at the start of the event at 10am, said Chan Brothers Travel’s senior marketing communications manager Jeremiah Wong.

“As travel agents, we really feel like people are really dying to travel,” said Mr Wong.

Director of EU Holidays, Mr Wong Yew Hoong said the current travel demand was "even stronger" compared to pre-pandemic peak seasons such as school holidays.

While travel demand is strong, the supply has yet to catch up, he said, adding that airfares for popular destinations in December such as Japan’s Hokkaido have “tripled” compared to a few months ago.

"If they don’t travel this December, it will be next December. That will be four years (without travel) ... They do not want to wait again."

Air ticket prices have also gone up due to the increase in fuel prices worldwide, said Ms Lee Hwee Noi, senior manager of international product development at Hong Thai Travel.

travel fair singapore 2022

"PRICE IS NOT A BIG PROBLEM"

Station manager Mr Meswan Satin, who attended the travel fair on Friday, said that he will still opt for tour packages even if they are expensive.

“We understand that the inflation rate has gone up because of the pandemic ... That (is) something that you got to live with,” said Mr Meswan who was looking at destinations such as Dubai and Turkey.

“We have no choice … because we enjoy travelling.”

Assistant general manager of leisure and travel at New Shan Travel, Ms Chris Tay said: “We have not been travelling for quite some time. So I believe during this period of time, they have saved enough so they don't mind (going) further.”

This observation was shared by the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO), which provides travel information to tourists looking to visit Japan.

“Price is not a big problem,” said Ms Hatsume Nagai, JNTO’s executive director for Singapore, citing a survey conducted by the organisation.

She also noted that the travel demand for Japan is “higher than expected”.

Some travel agents told CNA that Japan was among the most popular destinations for the December holiday period.

This is despite the country allowing only visitors on package tours as part of its first phase of reopening which began on Jun 10.

In addition to seeing more people lean towards longer trips, many travel agencies also reported that more travellers were seeking tour packages that offer more included activities.

“Now when people are travelling overseas, they are more willing to pay for longer trips and better inclusion,” said EU Holidays’ Mr Wong.

Although travellers previously visited multiple countries during their holidays, Mr Wong noted that many now look for more in-depth tours.

Apart from Japan, trips to see the Northern Lights and Turkey were among the popular tour options.

FIRST TIMERS AND SHIFTING MINDSETS

With destinations like Japan allowing visitors on group tour basis, agencies such as Chan Brothers Travel have observed “great interest” for such tours from repeat customers as well as first timers.

“Because they miss Japan so much and they want to travel soon … We are seeing customers switching to group tours and coming to us,” said Mr Wong.

While travel hesitancy is not as strong as when the vaccinated travel lanes (VTLs) began, some still have concerns about travelling.

This has led to many opting for group tours for the first time.

travel fair singapore 2022

“They now have a chance to experience what a group tour is like in 2022 and maybe some of that mindset of what a group tour is like can be changed,” said Mr Wong.

“They might be converted for their future travels.”

This shift in mindset also applies to cruises which used to be seen as an activity for "old people", said New Shan Travel's Ms Tay. However, many younger travellers were "converted" after they opted for cruises during the pandemic.

She also noted an increase in travellers booking through agents.

“Before COVID-19, all these people just do it online and off they go. But now they will book from agent(s) although they know there is a service fee,” said Ms Tay.
