Begin by opening the Safari app and browsing to a website

Once the site is loaded in Safari, tap the address bar at the top of the Safari window.

In that address bar, type the text you want to search for on the page.

When you do that, a number of things happen:

  • In the address bar, URLs may be suggested based on your browsing history .
  • Beneath that, the Top Hits section offers additional suggestions.
  • The Suggested Website is delivered by Apple based on your Safari settings (you can tweak these in Settings > Safari > Search ).
  • After that are a set of suggested searches from Google (or your default search engine), followed by matching sites from your bookmarks and search history.

But where's Find on Page? In most cases, it's hidden off the bottom of the screen, either by the onscreen keyboard or by the list of suggested results and searches. Swipe all the way to the end of the screen and you'll see a section titled On This Page . The number next to the header indicates how many times the text you searched for appears on this page.

The arrow keys move you through the uses of the word on the page. The X icon lets you clear the current search and perform a new one.

In these earlier versions of the iOS, the process is a bit different:

Use Safari to browse to a website.

Tap the search bar in the top right-hand corner of the Safari window (if Google is your default search engine, the window will read Google  until you tap it).

Type in the text you're trying to find on the page.

In the list of search results, you'll first see suggested search terms from Google. In a grouping below that, you'll see On This Page . Tap that to find the text you want on the page.

You'll see the text you searched for highlighted on the page. Move between instances of the text you searched for with the Previous and Next buttons.

When visiting a web page in the Safari app, select the Share button (it looks like a square with an upward-facing arrow in it). Scroll through the Share menu and select Find on Page, then type in the word or phrase you want to search for and select Search .

Navigate to the web page in the Chrome app and select More ... > Find in Page . Enter your search word or phrase in the text field in the top-left, and Chrome will highlight matching words or phrases in yellow on the web page.

There's no functionality difference between the two options, but if you prefer the Smart Search bar to be at the top rather than the bottom, you can change the location of the address bar in Settings .

Searching the internet has become an integral part of our daily lives, and with the Safari browser on your iPhone, you have a powerful tool right at your fingertips. The Safari browser offers a straightforward and user-friendly interface for conducting basic searches. Whether you’re looking up information, researching a topic, or simply finding your favorite website, here’s how you can make the most of the basic search features on Safari for iPhone.

To initiate a basic search on Safari, open the browser and tap on the search bar at the top of the screen. This will activate the virtual keyboard , allowing you to type in your search query. Be as specific as possible with your search terms to get the most relevant results.

As you start typing, Safari will display suggestions based on popular search terms and your browsing history. This can be a helpful feature for quickly finding what you’re looking for without typing out the entire search query. Simply tap on a suggestion to select it, or continue typing to refine your search further.

Once you’ve entered your search query, tap the “Go” button on the virtual keyboard or the “Search” button on the bottom right corner of the screen. Safari will then display a list of search results based on your query. These results are typically a mix of websites, articles, images, and other relevant content.

You can scroll through the search results and tap on any link to visit the corresponding website or page. To go back to the search results, simply swipe right from the left edge of the screen or tap the back arrow at the top left corner of the screen. This allows you to explore multiple search results without losing track of your original query.

Safari also provides a convenient option to open search results in a new tab. Press and hold on a search result, and a menu will appear with several options, including “Open in New Tab.” Tapping on this option will launch the webpage in a new tab, allowing you to continue your search while keeping the original result open.

Furthermore, if you come across a website or page that is particularly relevant to your search, you can bookmark it for future reference. Tap the Share icon at the bottom center of the screen, and then select “Add Bookmark” from the available options. You can choose to save the bookmark in your bookmarks folder or create a new folder specifically for the bookmark.

Utilizing the basic search features on Safari for iPhone enables you to quickly find information and navigate the internet with ease. By familiarizing yourself with these simple techniques, you can make the most of your browsing experience and efficiently discover the content you’re looking for.

Searching the web on your iPhone’s Safari browser is easier than ever with the advanced search techniques available. These techniques allow you to refine your search and find exactly what you’re looking for. Here are some tips to help you make the most out of Safari’s advanced search features on your iPhone.

1. Use specific keywords: When performing a search, be as specific as possible with your keywords. Including specific words or phrases related to your search topic will help Safari return more accurate results. For example, instead of searching for “restaurants,” try “Italian restaurants in my area.”

2. Utilize quotation marks: If you’re searching for a specific phrase, enclose it in quotation marks. This tells Safari to search for the exact phrase rather than individual words. For example, searching for “best pizza in New York” will return results that include that exact phrase.

3. Exclude words with a minus sign: If you want to exclude certain words or phrases from your search results, use a minus sign (-) before the term you want to exclude. For example, if you’re searching for recipes but want to exclude any that include dairy, you can search for “recipes -dairy.”

4. Use site-specific searches: If you’re looking for information on a specific website, you can use the “site:” operator in your search. For example, searching for “iPhone reviews site:cnet.com” will only return results from the CNET website.

5. Filter your search results: Safari on iPhone allows you to filter your search results based on various criteria. You can filter by date, by website, or even by file type. This can help you find the most relevant and up-to-date information quickly and easily.

6. Use auto-suggestions: As you start typing your search query in Safari’s search bar, it will suggest popular search terms and phrases based on what you’ve typed so far. This can be a helpful way to refine your search and find what you’re looking for faster.

By using these advanced search techniques, you can save time and get more accurate results when browsing the web on your iPhone’s Safari browser. Experiment with these tips and make your searches more efficient and effective.

When browsing the internet on your iPhone using the Safari browser, every search you make is recorded in your search history. While this can be convenient for quickly accessing previously visited websites, it can also compromise your privacy if someone else gains access to your device.

To manage your search history on Safari iPhone, follow these simple steps:

  • Open Safari: Launch the Safari app on your iPhone by tapping its icon on the home screen.
  • Access the Settings: Tap on the “Settings” icon, typically located on the bottom right corner of the Safari screen. This will open the Safari settings menu.
  • Find the Search History option: Scroll down through the Safari settings menu until you find the “Clear History and Website Data” option. Tap on it to proceed.
  • Clear your search history: In the “Clear History and Website Data” menu, you will see a prompt asking you to confirm the action. Tap on “Clear History and Data” to delete all your search history and website data saved in Safari.
  • Enable Private Browsing: To prevent Safari from saving your search history in the future, you can enable “Private Browsing” mode. Return to the Safari settings menu and toggle the “Private Browsing” switch to the “ON” position. This ensures that no history is recorded while browsing in this mode. It’s important to note that enabling Private Browsing will also disable some features like remembering passwords and automatically filling in forms.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage your search history on Safari iPhone, ensuring your privacy and control over your browsing data. Remember to regularly clear your search history and consider using private browsing mode when necessary to keep your online activities confidential.

Searching in Safari on your iPhone is a powerful tool that allows you to quickly find information, websites, and content right from your device. With its user-friendly interface and integrated search capabilities, Safari offers a seamless browsing experience for users. By using the search bar, you can enter keywords, phrases, or even website addresses to initiate a search. Safari will then provide you with relevant search results, making it easy to find what you’re looking for.

Whether you’re searching for a specific website, conducting research, or simply want to explore the internet, Safari on iPhone has got you covered. Privacy is built in.

Online privacy isn’t just something you should hope for — it’s something you should expect. That’s why Safari comes with industry-leading privacy protection technology built in, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention that identifies trackers and helps prevent them from profiling or following you across the web. Upgrading to iCloud+ gives you even more privacy protections, including the ability to sign up for websites and services without having to share your personal email address.

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

Safari stops trackers in their tracks.

What you browse is no one’s business but your own. Safari has built‑in protections to help stop websites and data-collection companies from watching and profiling you based on your browsing activity. Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses on‑device intelligence to help prevent cross‑site tracking and stops known trackers from using your IP address — making it incredibly difficult to learn who you are and what you’re interested in.

Privacy Report

Safari makes it simple to see how your privacy is protected on all the websites you visit. Click Privacy Report in the Safari menu for a snapshot of cross-site trackers currently prevented from profiling you on the website you’re visiting. Or view a weekly Privacy Report to see how Safari protects you as you browse over time.

Safari is more customizable than ever. Organize your tabs into Tab Groups so it’s easy to go from one interest to the next. Set a custom background image and fine-tune your browser window with your favorite features — like Reading List, Favorites, iCloud Tabs, and Siri Suggestions. And third-party extensions for iPhone, iPad, and Mac let you do even more with Safari, so you can browse the way you want across all your devices.

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

Safari 101 : How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

Apple's default browser for iOS, Safari , has a ton of useful features, and there's so many that it's impossible to know everything you can do to browse the web more efficiently. One you may not know about brings the Command + F keyboard shortcut right to your mobile browser so you can search for words or phrases directly on any webpage you're viewing.

Apple added this "Find on Page" feature way back in iOS 4.2, but at that time, Safari had an independent search bar next to the URL bar. Safari was then upgraded with a unified search bar in iOS 7, but the method for finding text on a webpage remained basically the same, and it still is to this day.

However, iOS 9 brought on a second, more convenient way to find terms on webpages in Safari, and we'll show you how both of these methods work right now in the latest version of iOS for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

  • UPDATE: iOS 16 has another way to search for words and other text on a webpage in Safari!

Method 1: Use the Share Sheet in Safari

Go to Safari, then tap on the share sheet icon (it looks like a piece of paper with an arrow pointing up) in the menu at the bottom of the webpage (or top, if you're in landscape view). If you don't see the menu, swipe down on the screen or tap at the very bottom of your screen (or top, if in landscape view) to bring it up.

  • Don't Miss: How to Request Desktop Sites in Safari on Your iPhone

On the bottom row of activities, the one below the row of applications, swipe left until you see the "Find on Page" icon with a magnifying glass. Tap on it, then type in whatever term you need to hunt for on the webpage. When you're done typing, the first occurrence of the term will appear highlighted in yellow on the page. Then just use the down and up arrows to navigate through the results.

To see how many results are on the page, hit the "Search" button, which will collapse the keyboard and show you number indicators for what word is currently highlighted out of how many. To search for a new word, simply tap the search bar and type a new word or phrase in. When you are finished with your search, tap "Done" to quit the search tool.

Safari 101: How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

Making 'Find on Page' Easier to Access in the Share Sheet

If you're doing a lot of searching, you aren't going to want to scroll through the share sheet to tap "Find on Page" again and again. What you need is for "Find on Page" to be readily available when you tap the "Share" button. Luckily, Apple lets you customize the share sheet to do just that.

There are two ways to get this done. First, simply tap and hold on "Find on Page" in the share sheet. The icon will lift above the others, which is your cue to drag it to a new location. I prefer it to be the first function in the list for easy access, but as long as it appears on the share sheet without you needing to scroll, you should save the same amount of time.

The second way to relocate "Find on Page" is to scroll to the end of the share sheet. Tap "More," then tap-and-hold the three lines next to "Find on Page." Drag the section to the location on the list you would like it to appear, then release. When you tap "Done," you will see your new "Find on Page" placement.

Safari 101: How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

Method 2: Use the URL Bar in Safari Instead

For some of you, the share sheet method above will be more convenient, but it may feel more natural to use this method instead since it's the old-school way that's been around in iOS for generations.

  • Don't Miss: How to Close All Your Open Safari Tabs at the Same Time

Simply tap on the URL of the webpage you are on, then type out the term you want to search for. Scroll down to On This Page , and tap on "Find [your term here]." Your query will now appear in the search bar at the bottom of the webpage, with the keyboard already collapsed and the number indicators in full force. Use the arrows next to the search bar to jump between the found terms. And just like before, tap on the search bar to change terms or hit "Done" when you're finished.

Safari 101: How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

That's all there is to it. Now you know how to find any word on any page via Safari's share sheet or the URL bar. Apple may have buried this feature pretty deep, but it's good to see that there is a way to "Find on Page" for every iPhone user.

There's a Way to Move Your iPhone Safari Search Bar Back to the Top (Where It Belongs)

Published on 1/10/2022 at 8:15 AM

iphone safari search page

Ever since the first iPhone was introduced in 2007, the Safari search bar — aka the address bar, the tab bar, or just where the URL goes — has rested at the top of the page. There were no ifs, ands, or buts about its placement; it simply stayed at the top, and no one blinked an eye . . . that is, until now. Apple's recent iOS 15 update moved the Safari Search Bar to the bottom of the page, changing our searching routine in a small way with an undeniably big impact.

Sure, moving the Safari search bar was a simple switch-up, and one that even made sense: our fingers are down there anyway. But damn, has it been a struggle to adapt to. Muscle memory is a real thing, and I (and many other friends and colleagues) can't seem to get used to a bottom search bar. While I was very welcoming of iOS 15's Safari background customization , the rearranged search bar is something I may never get used to. The good news? You can move the Safari search bar back to the top of the page in just a few simple steps:

iphone safari search page

How to Move Your iPhone Safari Search Bar Back to the Top of the Page

  • Open Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap Safari.
  • Under Tabs, select Single Tab.

It's that easy! Please keep in mind that by choosing the Single Tab option, your search bar will move back to the top of the page, but you won't be able to scroll left and right between different Safari tabs like you could with the Sidebar option. Regardless, your memory will be very happy to see it back at the top.

How to search your browsing history on an iPhone, in Safari or Google Chrome

  • It's easy to search the history on your iPhone's web browser to return to a specific webpage you've visited previously.
  • You can search the history on your iPhone in the Safari or Google Chrome browsers with these steps.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The search history on your iPhone's web browser can be helpful in taking you back to a site you want to see again, but scrolling through the whole list can be time consuming and annoying.

Luckily, there's a search tool to help you get back to websites you may have visited a while ago — without going through the trouble of trying to remember the date you visited it.

This feature is available on both the Safari and Google Chrome browsers. Here's how to use it to search your web history on an iPhone .

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Iphone 11 (from $699.99 at best buy), how to search the history on your iphone in safari .

1. Open the Safari app.

2. Tap the book icon at the bottom of your screen. It is the second icon from the right. This will bring up your search history.

3. Pull down on this History menu to reveal a bar at the top labeled "Search History" with a magnifying glass to the left of it.

4. Tap the search bar you just revealed to bring up the keypad, and type your search query. The query doesn't have to be exact to bring up results.

5. The result you are looking for should appear. Tap it to return to the website you visited.

How to search history on your iPhone in Google Chrome

1. Open the Google Chrome app.

2. Tap the three dots in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. This will bring up an options menu.

3. Tap "History," which is the second to last option on the list of items in blue. The icon looks like a clock with an arrow around the outside pointing counterclockwise.

4. On the new History page, tap the search bar at the top to bring up your keyboard.

5. Type your search query into the search bar.

6. Tap the name of the site you were looking for. This will bring you back to the page.

Apple is about to change iPhone web browsing forever

Nadeem Sarwar

Apple has today announced a major change that could revolutionize the web-browsing experience for iPhone users. Alas, this browsing boon will be limited to users in the EU bloc. This news was announced alongside Apple’s plans to add sideloading and third-party app stores to the iPhone .

Deliberately spoiling the browsing experience

  • It’s all about preferential treatment

Oops. Did I say Safari stutters?

A bright future is right around the corner.

To comply with the EU’s landmark Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple says it will allow developers to use other browser engines for their web browsers. That means Apple will no longer force them to use its own WebKit rendering engine, which is the underlying tech behind what any web browser can do on your phone. That’s a massive rule change.

Browser vendors such as Chrome developer Google and Edge maker Microsoft have been restricted to creating mere shells around a highly specific, unmodified version of Safari’s WebView, a component whose functionalities are tightly dictated by Apple. Instead of shipping their meticulously developed browsers, the likes of Google and Mozilla are forced to build a separate browser that essentially acts as a thin wrapper for Apple’s WebKit engine.

  • How to block a number on Android phones and iPhones
  • iPhone Flip: what we know about Apple’s first foldable phone
  • Nomad’s new iPhone accessory is unlike anything you’ve seen before

To put it simply, browser apps like Chrome, Firefox, Brave, DuckDuckGo, and others can be installed on an iPhone, but they merely serve as superficial overlays on Apple’s WebKit engine. This policy also means that Apple has the final say on which features are supported on Safari. And that feature gap is huge.

Just take a look at this feature comparison compiled by Open Web Advocacy to get a grasp of the problem:

Third-party browser vendors have no other option but to use a highly specific version of WebKit, with no flexibility to modify the engine’s features, including the activation or deactivation of existing features in the source code. This limitation chokes the ability of iOS browsers to stand out through soft forks.

On the other hand, in a market with genuine browser choices, third parties could develop their own browsers from scratch. Just take a look at what the folks behind the Arc browser have managed to accomplish in totally reimagining how a browser looks and works in the desktop ecosystem.

It’s also telling that a team with such bright minds has only released a companion Arc app on iOS and not a full-fledged revolutionary mobile browser — because they know full well that they won’t get the same kind of flexibility with iOS (due to WebKit) as they do on macOS for building a fantastic desktop browser.

This is evident in the Chromium browser ecosystem ,as well. Unlike in iOS, where Apple solely controls feature inclusion, browser vendors have the liberty to choose features when using Chromium on Android . Ultimately, for an average iPhone user, the key aspect is the software that operates on actual devices.

It’s all about preferential treatment

But it’s not just the lack of features that is concerning. It’s also about giving Safari an unfair edge because Apple controls the entire implementation of any browser that runs on the iPhone. Apple, of course, gives preferential treatment to Safari when it comes to accessing the native system on iPhones.

Safari has been granted the ability to display videos in full screen, while other browsers are prohibited from doing so, except on iPad. Oher browsers have also been historically kept from installing Web Apps, using the all-too-important extensions, or integrating Apple Pay to the same extent as Safari.

Next, let’s explore the competition perspective, which is what ultimately forced the EU to look into the WebKit situation. This WebKit-only approach forces companies to create multiple distinct applications for each platform, significantly increasing the costs and complexities of development and maintenance. These costs are in addition to the App Store’s 15% to 30% tax, which Apple has so fiercely protected to date.

The exorbitant costs of developing an interoperable application that functions identically to what Apple has to offer make it feasible only for well-funded companies. After all, why would anyone want to serve up a browser that functions virtually the same a Safari, while also being at technical disadvantage at the same time? Naturally, many useful or potentially profitable applications never see the light of day.

Safari and Apple’s WebView often encounter critical bugs that can break applications, and these issues also affect competing iOS browsers since they are unable to use their own engines, which may not have these bugs. Take a look at this failure graph called the Web Platforms Test Dashboard and marvel at Safari’s failures:

HTTP Toolkit has a massive catalog of how Apple’s approach is not only allowing browser bugs to persist on the web and weakening crucial security measures, but how it is also muddying the overall web for everyone with an iPhone in their hand. That’s particularly damning for a company that always argues against change by citing privacy and security.

If you really want to understand just how terribly Apple has created a browser monopoly on the iPhone, one where it has choked feature innovation and allowed nagging problems to persist, read this comprehensive 108-page document called “ Bringing Competition to the Walled Gardens – Third Party Browsers & Web Apps .”

But now that the EU has forced Apple’s hand and the company will finally allow alternative engines like Gecko and Blink, we will finally see a new experience fleshed out in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox running on the iPhone. And that could happen soon.

Earlier this year, Google announced (via GitHub , of all places) that it was working on an experimental iOS version of Chrome with the Blink engine at its core instead of WebKit. Of course, Apple’s policies won’t ever allow such a liberating monstrosity on the App Store, but it’s as if Google got a whiff that the EU could force Apple to reverse course. The folks over at 9to5Google even got a rudimentary version working on an iPhone.

Mozilla has also been testing a version of Firefox for iOS built atop its Gecko rendering engine. “We abide by Apple’s iOS app store policies, and are simply doing some exploratory work to understand the technical challenges for Gecko-based browsers on iOS if those policies were to change,” Mozilla told The Register earlier this year.

It looks like Google and Mozilla’s experiments with mobile web browsers free from the Apple WebKit shackles will finally bear fruit. But only for EU denizens. I dearly hope, for the sake of its valued customers, Apple does the same for users across the globe. It’s unprecedented, but at the end of the day, it’s also magical for an average iPhone user tired of the bland Safari experience.

I also dearly hope that regulators in other countries can also pull off what the EU has managed to accomplish. I am hopelessly addicted to the cause of “ iPad as a computer ,” but my worst enemy has been the constrained feature set on web browsers. I pray for a day when I can use Chrome on the iPad Pro to at least half of the capabilities it has on desktop browsers.

The ball’s in your court now, Apple!

Though the iPhone 15 series is still relatively new, the rumor mill for the iPhone 16 has already begun. And since we’re in the era of spatial computing with the Apple Vision Pro, some changes need to be made to future iPhones to make compatible content.

So far, we’ve seen a few different design prototypes for the iPhone 16, at least with the base model. And though I always spring for the Pro models instead of the non-Pro versions, the design of the base iPhone 16 models has me excited for what's to (possibly) come. A call back to the iPhone X

For especially sensitive actions, including changing the password of the Apple ID account associated with the iPhone, the feature adds a one-hour security delay on top of biometric authentication. In these cases, the user must authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID, wait one hour, and authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID again. However, Apple says there is no delay when the iPhone is in familiar locations, such as at home or work.

Actions that require Face ID or Touch ID authentication, and have a one-hour security delay, when the feature is turned on:

  • Changing your Apple ID password
  • Updating select Apple ID security settings, including adding or removing a trusted device, trusted phone number, Recovery Key, or Recovery Contact
  • Changing your iPhone passcode
  • Adding or removing Face ID or Touch ID
  • Turning off Find My
  • Turning off Stolen Device Protection

iOS 17.3 was released in late January. Stolen Device Protection is an opt-in feature that can be found in the Settings app under Face ID & Passcode.

How-To Geek

How to customize the safari start page on iphone and ipad.

Make your Start Page clean and simple---or just as cluttered as you like it.

On your iPhone or iPad, you can easily customize the Safari Start Page in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 (or higher). You can make the page blank (mostly), add a background image, or pick and choose what you want to see. Here's how.

First, open Safari on your iPhone or iPad and open a new tab by tapping the tabs button (two overlapping rectangles), then tapping the plus ("+") button.

In Safari on iPhone, tap the plus button to open a new tab.

You'll see Safari's "Start Page" by default. To edit what's on the Start Page, scroll down if necessary and tap the "Edit" button.

On the Safari Start Page, tap

When you tap "Edit," a "Customize Start Page" window will appear. Use the switches beside the listed options to turn them on or off. Here's what each option does.

  • Favorites: This displays items from your Favorites list (like bookmarks).
  • Frequently Visited: You'll see a list of frequently visited websites.
  • Shared With You: This gives you a list of items shared with you from other people through the Messages app.
  • Privacy Report: This shows a report on the number of trackers Safari has blocked recently.
  • Siri Suggestions: This displays suggestions from Siri related to what's in your history and bookmarks.
  • Reading List: This shows items from your Reading List .
  • iCloud Tabs: This shows Safari tabs that are synchronized across iCloud from your other devices.

Turn on any items you want to see on your Safari Start Page.

While also in the "Customize Start Page" window, you can use the "three lines" handle beside each item to tap and drag the Start Page items in the list. This will change the order of how the items will appear on the Start Page.

Use the three-line handles to change the order of the Start Page items.

And if you turn the switch beside "Background Image" into the "on" position, you can select a background picture that will display behind the content on your Start Page. Tap an image in the thumbnails or tap the plus ("+") button to select a custom image from your photo library.

Select a Start Page background in Safari on iPhone or iPad.

If you want to make your Start Page as minimalist as possible, switch off every item on the "Customize Start Page" list. (Unfortunately, you'll still see the "Edit" button.)

When you're done, click the "X" button to close the Customize Start Page window. The changes you've made take effect immediately. Happy browsing!

iphone safari search page

With the prevalence of mobile devices, many users may want to create an app-like experience from their favorite web pages. For iPhone and iPad users, Safari provides a feature that can add a web page to the home screen, acting very much like an app. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make an app from a web page on Safari.

Step 1: Open Safari

Begin by opening the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2: Navigate to the Web Page

Go to the web page that you wish to save as an app on your home screen.

Step 3: Tap the Share Button

Look for the share button – it usually appears as an icon with an arrow pointing upwards out of a box. Tap on it.

Step 4: Scroll Through the Options

Once you’ve tapped the share button, a menu will appear with different actions. Swipe left or right until you see the “Add to Home Screen” option.

Step 5: Add to Home Screen

Tap “Add to Home Screen.” You will then have a chance to rename the web page if you want something shorter or more descriptive as your app name.

Step 6: Editing the Name (Optional)

Edit the name of your shortcut if desired. This is what will appear underneath its icon on your home screen.

Step 7: Finalize Adding Your App

After renaming, tap “Add” in the upper-right corner of the screen. The icon for your new web app will now appear on your home screen just like any other app.

Keep in mind that this ‘web app’ will still open in Safari, but it gives you quick and direct access as though it were a standalone application. You can move and organize this new icon just like any other app on your home screen.

By following these simple steps, you’ve learned how to turn any web page into an app using Safari’s convenient features available on iOS devices.
