The Best Pet-Friendly Hotels Across the US
By Paul Rubio
In recent years, there’s been a major uptick in pet-friendly travel driven by consumer desire to include furry family members in vacation plans. Luckily, hotels have responded accordingly. Nowadays more and more properties are welcoming pets and showering them with a royal treatment typically reserved for their human counterparts.
Brands like Kimpton Hotels and Virgin Hotels reign as the ultimate torchbearers in upscale pet-friendly hotels. Kimpton’s straightforward, all-welcome, no-fee policy began decades ago with the first property in San Francisco and now extends to 59 domestically. Virgin Hotels’ has wonderfully lenient, no-cost policies at select outposts. At the same time, plenty of independent hotels and smaller brands have opened their doors to four-legged guests—and have Instagram-ready amenities, special pet-dining menus, and adorable canine ambassadors to prove it. But, terms, conditions, and fees are still worth noting when planning a pet-friendly stay.
Here, we highlight 15 properties that stand out from the pack in today’s growing pet-friendly hotels universe. While emphasis has been placed on dog-friendly accommodations, some welcome non-canine companions, too. You’ll bark (or purr) with approval!

Kimpton Brice Hotel, Savannah, Georgia Arrow
Kimpton is hands down the world’s most pet-friendly brand, and their Savannah property is a shining testament to the brand’s official policy of welcoming “any pet that can fit through the door”—fee-free. (The hotel has seen its fair share of adorable dogs and cats as well as plenty of unlikely guests including owls, llamas, penguins, and snakes.) While covering pet-friendly travel over the years, I’ve never seen a hotel more frequented by dogs and their owners; I personally am a repeat guest here with my dog, Camo. The budget-conscious downtown property is centrally located and features all the trappings we’ve come to know and love from pet-friendly Kimpton. Think complimentary morning coffee and an evening wine hour in the lobby, which pets can attend; complimentary access to Wag! Premium to organize pet walking, boarding, or sitting during your stay; and rooms pre-stocked with pet beds, bowls, specialty treats, complimentary waste bags, and personalized door hangers to indicate a pet’s presence. A massive courtyard provides yet another space to lounge with your four-legged bestie.
Fees & more: No fees. All pets are welcome; no weight or breed restrictions.
Emeline, Charleston, South Carolina Arrow
In the heart of Charleston ’s historic district, the low-rise edifice at 181 Church Street has lived many lives from its beginnings as a wholesale grocery store circa 1852 to its current form as a design-forward, 212-unit dog-friendly hotel named Emeline. Nowadays, dogs can experience the Charleston good life here, snug in a cozy, forest-green room with full access to the sprawling lobby, outdoor courtyard (inclusive of a fireplace and seating for Frannie & The Fox restaurant), and the Archives (a gallery that occupies most of the second floor). After booking, let the hotel know you’re bringing your dog by opting in for the Pawsome Package. It incurs a nominal fee but includes a custom-made dog treat by the hotel’s in-house pastry chef, a dog mat, a bowl, and a bed. Enjoy strolling nearby parks and green spaces like Riley Waterfront Park (home of the famed Pineapple Fountain) and The Battery; alternatively, take a half-mile walk to East Bay Dog Park for social time with fellow dogs and dog-lovers.
Fees & more: $100 cleaning fee per stay. Dogs up to 100 pounds, limit two per room. No breed restrictions.
San Ysidro Ranch, Montecito, California Arrow
Though best known as a top romantic retreat in the US, this 550-acre, celeb-frequented hideaway is also famed for its pet-friendly ethos. Dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes are welcomed guests in the bucolic cottages at San Ysidro Ranch and can even reserve massages at the spa. Through the Pampered Pet Program, dogs can look forward to a custom baked dog bone, plush bedding, a Ty beanie dog toy (a nod to ranch owner and Beanie Baby creator, Ty Warner), and even a dedicated in-room dining menu (The peanut butter and bacon pancakes are a favorite). Meanwhile, feline friends will receive a Ty beanie cat toy, a scratcher with catnip, a water fountain with San Benedetto Artesian Water, and a feather teaser toy. Many of the 38 accommodations feature tricked-out private yards for outdoor lounging with Fido, plus plunge pools and hammocks for human counterparts. The greater manicured grounds are idyllic for longer ambles. Heated outdoor seating at acclaimed restaurants, The Stonehouse and Veranda, means pets can join in at mealtimes, too. You’ll find hiking trails abound in the surrounding hills, rich in breathtaking views of Montecito’s windswept coastline. What’s more? Most Santa Barbara wineries welcome dogs—just ask the concierge which ones.
Fees & more: $150 per stay. Dogs and cats are welcome. No weight or breed restrictions.
Virgin Hotels, Chicago, Illinois Arrow
Virgin Hotels’ fee-free, all-welcoming pet policy began at its original US location in the Chicago Loop and now extends to two other US locations: Dallas and Nashville (Pets are welcome at the New York City and New Orleans locations with an additional fee.) With an Instagram-worthy, design-driven look and spacious rooms, Virgin Hotels Chicago is a nexus for the hip and pet-obsessed. Simply request a pet-friendly room and look forward to receiving a Virgin Hotels bandana at check-in along with food and water bowls, plus a pet bed. A porcelain dog will also be stationed in the hallway at your front door to indicate a pet’s presence in the room. Pets can relax in the lobby area and other public spaces as long as they’re leashed. During warmer months, spend the day at Montrose Dog Beach, Chicago’s off-leash dog beach on the shores of Lake Michigan, followed by drinks and bites with your pup at Cerise, the hotel’s 26th-floor rooftop bar and restaurant.
Fees & more: No fees. All pets are welcome. No weight or breed restrictions.

AutoCamp Russian River, Guerneville, California
While AutoCamp now provides several dog-friendly glamping opportunities at sites in Cape Cod, Catskills, Joshua Tree, Yosemite, and Zion, we’re still partial to the original location–Russian River. Here, near the thick of the Redwoods, cozy up and cuddle in a petite camper, a tricked-out Airstream suite, or even a luxury tent. Spend the day hiking trails near Armstrong Woods, sipping Pinot Noir at exceptional Sonoma wineries (several of which welcome dogs), and exploring the small-town charm of Guerneville. Cap off your evenings with a glass of wine and some s’mores, roasted over the coals of your personal outdoor firepit (full kits are available for purchase in AutoCamp’s retail shop). In 2024 and beyond, look forward to new AutoCamp outposts in Asheville, Sequoia, and Hill Country, all of which will be dog-friendly.
Fees & more: $75 per stay, for up to two dogs per room. Dogs only, up to 80 pounds each. The same policy applies at all AutoCamp locations and dogs can easily be added to online reservations upon check-out.
Fairmont Copley Plaza, Boston
Many hotels in Boston are pet-friendly, but the Fairmont Copley Plaza has a few competitive advantages. First, there’s Instagram-famous Cori Copley , the hotel’s Canine Ambassador who rules the lobby and is available for walks and playtime with other four-legged guests. Next, a location directly in front of grassy Copley Square makes bathroom breaks a breeze while the nearby scenic pathways of the Charles River encourage longer jaunts. The Front Desk “Biscuit Bar” is a requisite stop—several times a day—but the hotel also provides a 20 percent in-store discount card to Boston Barkery, located next door at Copley Place mall, to spice up the treat selection. Finally, a “Fairmont Furiend” package takes the experience further by throwing a few extras into the mix like an exclusive hotel-themed Boston Barkery Biscuit Box, a guest appearance on Cori's Instagram stories, and a complimentary Brush & Go service at ONYVA, a luxury dog spa on Newbury Street.
Fees & more: $50 per stay. All pets are welcome. No weight or breed restrictions.
The Betsy South Beach, Miami
It’s a canine’s world, and we’re just living in it at this artsy Miami Beach hotel , home to not one but three furry ambassadors: Betsy, Rosa, and Daisy, who all live on property with the hotel’s owners. A love for dogs is evident in the smallest details. Room keys are imprinted with an image of Katie, the owners’ late golden retriever. Betsy and Rosa’s proprietary beer, BetsyRosa, is served in all The Betsy’s bars and restaurants. An underground art gallery showcases the work of dog photographer Carlos Andres Cruz, who also captured the images of Betsy and Rosa for the book, Rosa’s First Day as CEO (Canine Executive Officer). You bet that your dog, too, will feel equally special here. Watch the sunrise together on the rooftop Ocean Front deck before heading on a walk through Lummus Park. Enjoy lunch on the Ocean Drive terrace of the in-house restaurant LT. Look forward to even doing the spa together—select “Pampering with Pooch” for a couples’ massage of sorts that includes a 50-minute massage for the human and 10 minutes for the doggie.
Fees & more: $150 fee per stay ( 50% of which goes to Miami-Dade Animal Rescue and the SPCA in Zimbabwe, the childhood home of one of The Betsy’s owners.) Dogs and cats only. No weight or breed restrictions.
Scribner's Catskill Lodge, Hunter, New York
Building on the success of Scribner's Catskill Lodge, a circa-1966 motor lodge turned 38-room, retro-chic inn, the Scribner’s campus now includes The Rounds at Scribner’s, a collection of 11 upscale cabins with outdoor soaking tubs and decks with 360-degree views. Across all the accommodations, dogs are welcome to be a part of the mountainside magic. Together, you’ll enjoy a stylish guest room with oversized windows and dark maple-stained floors, plus modern-meets-rustic furniture, fireplaces, lofted sleeping quarters, and private decks. (Many also have sweeping Catskill views.) Through the Pupstater Program, dogs receive a custom bandana (green if he or she is social, red if he or she isn’t the type for pets from strangers), dog tags, toys, and treats. Expect to explore trails through the unspoiled woodlands around the lodge and the mountains nearby.
Fees & more: $50 per night, per dog, for up to two dogs per room. Dogs only. No weight or breed restrictions.
The Foundry Hotel Asheville, Curio Collection by Hilton, North Carolina
This early 20th-century steel foundry turned 87-room luxury boutique hotel is best known for keeping history in style through design (reclaimed elements include the pulley elevator, exposed beams, and industrial-style windows). But the property is also gaining traction as Asheville’s top pet-friendly lodging, largely due to its popular Pup-arazzi Adventure Package, which includes a one-hour session with a local photographer, a guided family hike with Asheville Wellness Tours, a swag bag from nearby Patton Avenue Pet Company (with dog beer, treats, and a complimentary voucher for a DIY dog bath), and a Foundry bandana. Dogs are also welcome outside of this specific package and can look forward to exploring Asheville’s great outdoors, local pet-friendly craft breweries, and even chilling or enjoying live music with their human parents in the Workshop Lounge, the property’s buzzing bar and lounge located in the foundry’s former woodworking area.
Fees & more: $150 per pet per stay. Dogs and cats only; no weight or breed restrictions
Baker's Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton, Florida
Finally, there’s a beachfront resort where dogs don’t have to miss out on any of the family fun. At Baker’s Cay in Key Largo, dogs can swim in the water, walk on the beach, and escape the sun in dedicated dog tikis. They can also drink and dine with their humans on covered outdoor terraces at Calusa Restaurant and waterfront taqueria Dry Rocks, which offers daily “yappy hour” specials. All dogs receive a welcome kit that includes a Baker’s Cay bandana, collapsible water and food bowls, and a Cay-9 magnet for the guest room door (indicating the pet’s presence to service staff to avoid any surprises). Given all the dog-friendly excess, it’s no wonder the hotel is a wildly popular choice for dog-friendly weddings.
Fees & more: $75 fee per stay. If staying more than five nights, an additional deep cleaning fee of $150 applies. Dog up to 100 pounds, max two per room. No breed restrictions. Pets other than dogs are welcome with advance notice.
Skyline Lodge, Highlands, North Carolina
This revamped motor lodge in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains is a great dog-friendly option for appreciating North Carolina’s great outdoors in all seasons. Many guest rooms surround a lifestyle-driven lawn (cornhole and s’mores, anyone?) where pups and peeps are free to roam. Upon arrival, dogs can look forward to a Cool Whip pup cup and chef-made, peanut butter and oats dog treats. In-house restaurant, Oak Steakhouse, is located at the edge of the property, meaning fabulous drinking and dining are literally just steps away. A covered terrace allows dogs to join at mealtime. Days here are often about rewarding hikes, and there are dozens of trails to choose from, including Whiteside Mountain, a short-but-steep two-mile trail with sweeping views from the highest vertical cliffs in the eastern United States. Also discover the myriad, breathtaking waterfalls the Highlands are famed for, starting with the exhilarating ascent to High Falls in Lake Glenville’s Pines Recreation Area as well as a trip to serene Ranger Falls.
Fees & more: $125 fee per stay. One dog up to 50 pounds or two dogs, maximum 60 pounds total—but let’s just say there are no weigh-ins happening. No breed restrictions.
The Lodge at Spruce Peak, Vermont
Take in New England’s outdoor pursuits and family-friendly lodging—four-legged family included—at The Lodge at Spruce Peak in Stowe, Vermont. Dogs are welcome in studios and multi-bedroom suites in the lodge itself, all of which were refreshed in 2021. Pet-friendly rooms are pre-stocked with a plush dog bed, bowls, and treats, and more treat stations can be found across the sprawling property, including the front desk, valet, and Spruce Peak Outfitters activities center. Our favorite season to travel here with Fido is fall, when dogs can join guided activities like hikes to multi-hued mountain summits. But in any season, expect to socialize with dozens of other pet-owners in the lobby, in the surrounding forests, and in the resort’s pet-friendly “village,” lined with coffee shops, boutiques, and seasonal installations (such as an ice-skating rink in winter).
Fees & more: $100 per night. Dogs up to 100 pounds. No breed restrictions.
Kimpton La Peer Hotel, Los Angeles
Like all properties under the Kimpton umbrella, LA’s design-forward La Peer Hotel is absolute perfection for a pet-friendly vacation. Pets can attend the daily early evening social hour, where they get complimentary goodies and human companions get complimentary wine. They can also hang with their human besties when dining in the covered Courtyard Bar and ogling the art-strewn lobby. Given La Peer’s prime West Hollywood location, anticipate long strolls along pedestrian-friendly Santa Monica Boulevard with frequent stops for attention and cuddles with pet-loving passersby. A short walk away lies West Hollywood Park, home to an off-leash dog park with a dedicated space for small dogs and another for all sizes.
Cypress Inn, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
It wouldn’t be a true pet-friendly story without this circa 1929, vintage-chic inn, co-owned by actress and animal-rights champion Doris Day for more than 20 years. All 30 rooms allow creatures big and small, from dogs to iguanas to pot-bellied pigs and more. Hang with your four-legged (or two-legged) bestie on the patio, in the lounge, or in front of the library’s crackling fireplace, and make new friends over “muttinis” during “yappy hour” from 4:30 to 6 p.m daily in Terry’s Lounge. At adjacent Carmel beach, dogs can roam leash-free.
Fees & more: $30 per night for one pet; $50 per night for two; $70 per night for three. All pets are welcome. No weight or breed restrictions.
The Point Resort, Upper Saranac Lake, New York
Go back in time to the Great Camp era of the late 19th century at William Avery Rockefeller’s former private estate , reinvented as an adults-only, pet-friendly, 11-room luxury lodge of Relais and Châteaux pedigree. Dogs and cats can participate in most activities of the all-inclusive vacation experience, including bonfire lunches, lakeside cocktails, hikes throughout the 75-acre estate, and boating across Upper Saranac Lake (The Point even provides pet life vests). They’ll get toys, beds, and bowls plus their own specially cooked meals and treats courtesy of the lodge’s all-star culinary team, retreating nightly to cuddles and belly rubs by the fireplace—each room has one.
Fees & more: No fees. Dogs and cats are welcome. No weight or breed restrictions.

What 'pet-friendly' means (and doesn’t)
How to find hotel pet policies, go-to hotel brands for pet owners, which major hotel brands have the lowest pet fees, staying with pets compared across hotel brands, tips and best practices during your stay, is staying in a hotel with a pet worth it.
Traveling with pets can seem like a daunting task. Hotel pet policies are complicated, inconsistent and full of gotcha fees. But with a bit of preparation and an understanding of how the policies work, you can avoid these costs and headaches.
Here's the basics of staying at hotels with your pets.
A pet-friendly hotel is generally one that allows some animals on the property under some conditions. However:
Many pet-friendly hotels charge an additional fee. Sometimes this is a flat per-stay fee, sometimes it varies by the number of pets or number of nights stayed.
Not all pet-friendly hotels allow all pets. Most allow dogs only, and many of those have size and breed restrictions.
Most hotels don't allow pets to be left unaccompanied.
Each individual hotel, even within the same brand, often has its own pet policy. Staying at one pet-friendly Marriott, for example, doesn't mean all Marriott properties are pet-friendly.
Make sure to check the specific policy for the hotel property you’re considering before clicking “book.”
Generally, each hotel property has its own pet policy. There is no blanket pet policy for, say, every Holiday Inn. Every Holiday Inn location has its own policy.
These policies have become so complex, a mini-online industry has sprung up around providing clear, easy-to-understand information about specific policies. Sites such as BringFido and Petswelcome host individual pages for each hotel property with reviews from pet owners and a simple summary of the pet policy. Here’s an example from BringFido:
These sites are a great resource. The only drawback is that they are updated manually, so if a property changes its pet policy, it may not be immediately reflected. To ensure you’re getting the correct information:
Use a site like BringFido or Petswelcome to check the basics.
Search the name of the property plus "pet policy" to find the official policy and make sure the details match.
If there is any discrepancy or confusion, call the hotel.
Although individual hotel properties often have their own pet policies, some hotel chains and brands are generally more pet-friendly than others.
Kimpton Hotels is considered the best overall hotel chain for pets (and, well, their owners). Kimpton, which is part of IHG, allows all pets — no restrictions on size, species or number of pets. Even better is the fact that there are no pet fees. Other IHG hotels , including Holiday Inns, are pet-friendly, though many carry a fee.
Aloft Hotels, part of Marriott , allow dogs up to 40 pounds for free, but the number of dogs allowed varies by each hotel.
The number of pet-friendly Hilton hotels has grown in recent years, as more than a half-dozen Hilton brands are pet-friendly — something relatively new for the company. Approximately 80% of all Hilton hotel locations accept pets, though many charge a fee.
Red Roof Inn allows one pet up to 80 pounds for free.
Motel 6 allows up to two pets weighing 150 pounds combined for free.
As traveling with pets becomes more common, more hotel brands are pitching themselves as pet-friendly while charging exorbitant pet fees, which are often buried in the fine print. To shed some light on these fees, we compared dozens of properties within seven major hotel brands to see which charged the lowest pet fees and to ultimately find the best hotels for pets .
Note that some of the other pet-friendly brands like Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn were not considered in NerdWallet's rankings because they didn't meet certain criteria to be rated, such as not enough nationwide availability or no loyalty program.
» Learn more: Which hotel brands have the best (and worst) fees?
The differences between brands are striking. Choice only charges $32.50 on average per night in pet fees, while Hyatt and Marriott charge more than $100 per night, on average.
Keep in mind that these are average fees, and the actual rates vary significantly from property to property. Still, it gives travelers with pets a good understanding of which brands to target and which to avoid altogether when planning where to stay.
In our most recent analysis of hotel pet policies , we ranked the major U.S. hotel chains on various factors including whether or not they allow pets at all, pet fees and consistency of pet policies across properties, among other factors.
Here's how they stacked up:
Inform the staff during check-in that you've brought a pet. Some properties have specific pet-friendly rooms set aside, and others have special amenities for pets.
Keep your dog on a leash while inside the hotel. Your dog might be well-behaved, but it could encounter another guest’s dog that isn’t, leading to barking or fighting.
If you must leave your pet unattended for a short time, bring a crate. Nervous pets can wreak havoc on an empty room, racking up expensive damage fees. If your dog barks when left, don’t leave it by itself for other guests’ sake. Some hotels won't let you leave your pet unattended at all — so have a plan if you're heading to a museum, show or restaurant that also won't allow pets.
Inform housekeeping if your pet has an accident. You could face a fee if you don’t, and most hotels have specialty cleaning supplies that can take care of the mess in a hurry.
Pets are part of the family, so why board them when you go on vacation? Although hotel pet policies can seem like a complex maze, they are easier to understand and navigate once you know the basics.
Use a third party website to check individual property pet policies, target brands like Kimpton and Aloft that are truly pet-friendly, and watch out for sky-high pet fees from some big-name hotels.

The Best Dog-friendly Hotels in the US
These are the best dog-friendly hotels from New York City to Santa Barbara and everywhere in between based on amenities, service, and location.
Oscar Wong/Getty Images
Long gone are the days when traveling with your dog meant being forced to stay at roadside motels with stained carpets and questionable odors. Today, hotels at all price points are putting the "friendly" in pet-friendly by not only allowing dogs but pampering them as much as (if not even more than) their humans.
At the Bobby Hotel in Nashville and The St. Regis Aspen Resort , a resident pooch oversees the lobbies. At La Posada de Santa Fe in New Mexico and Baron's Cove in Sag Harbor, New York , pups are greeted with local treats and private, fenced-in outdoor spaces perfect for frolicking. At L'Auberge de Sedona in Arizona , they'll snooze by the fire in a plush dog bed before a day of sniffing around by the creek.
My golden retriever, Cali, spent much of her first few months of life hanging around the Travel + Leisure office, so when we set out on a cross-country road trip together, I decided it was time to put her to work. She may not be able to write a review, but if she could, I think she would agree with my conclusion that there are some key features that place the best dog-friendly hotels above the rest:
- Proximity to parks and dog-friendly activities
- Accessible outdoor space — bonus points if it's enclosed and they can roam free
- Amenities that make them feel at home, be it a dog bed and water bowl or treats and a toy upon arrival
- A dog-friendly restaurant on site or nearby
- A bathtub (or better yet, an outdoor shower) for when adventuring gets messy
- A pet-loving staff
Cali tested (and, from what I can tell, highly approved of) many of the properties that made our list herself, and I learned that if you're lucky enough to have a dog who travels well, bringing him or her along can give your vacation a huge boost. Traveling with a pet gives you a built-in excuse to talk to the locals and to spend more time outdoors exploring by foot, and it guarantees you a more enthusiastic greeting — and cuter photos — everywhere you go.
Note that some hotels charge an additional fee or deposit, block off specific rooms for guests with pets, or offer pet packages seasonally, so it's always important to call ahead if you're checking in with a four-legged guest. Typically, hotels do not allow pets to be left unattended, so it's important to plan pet-friendly activities as well. If you are allowed to leave your pet in your hotel room unattended, consider bringing along a pet camera to keep tabs on your furry travel companion.
Below are Cali's (and my) picks for the best dog-friendly places to stay in the U.S.
Baron’s Cove: Sag Harbor, NY
Author John Steinbeck spent time at this cozy, waterfront Long Island retreat , and guests who purchase the Travels With Charley package will be given a copy of the novel he wrote about his own cross-country road trip with a French poodle, " Travels with Charley: In Search of America ," perfect for reading on your fenced-in front porch while your pup runs free. The package also comes with treats, a frisbee, a bed, and a daily dining credit for the humans. It's best to visit Baron's Cove with your dog in wintertime, when Sag Harbor is crowd-free and you can sit together by the fire with a glass of wine and some water, respectively, and look out at the silent harbor. South Fork beaches are generally dog-friendly all day long in winter, the closest being Havens Beach (they're not permitted on the beach from around Memorial Day to Labor Day) and Montauk Brewery is a fun dog-friendly stop half an hour east.

L’Auberge de Sedona: Sedona, AZ
L'Auberge de Sedona 's stunning grounds on Oak Creek, surrounded by Red Rock country , are a destination in their own right. The hotel provides dog beds, bowls, leashes, and a goodie bag with a toy, treats, clean-up bags, and a map of nearby walking trails. The spacious and private cottages have open-air showers, ideal for a rinse should your pet get dirty on the beach below.

Bobby Hotel: Nashville
Hairy, the Bobby Hotel dog-in-residence, greets guests in this super-stylish Nashville lobby and helps raise funds for the Nashville Humane Association . Rooms come with oversized balconies offering views that will keep curious pups entertained. You can even bring your pup to the patio at the in-house cafe where you can sip on a latte while getting in some good dog watching. Riverfront Park dog park is within walking distance, and so is Broadway, the city's main strip, filled with live music and an exuberant crowd of revelers who seriously love dogs. Before you leave be sure to check out the Bobby's rooftop lounge, where you'll sip cocktails in a retrofitted 1956 Scenicruiser bus.

The 15 best dog-friendly hotels in the US you need to know about
Traveling with your pet should be a treat for both of you. There are plenty of hotels that allow guests to bring dogs but don't give the animals any special treatment. So, when you find a hotel that treats your dog with the same level of service it provides human guests, you know you've found something exceptional.
Some of the perks you may receive at a pet-friendly hotel include specialty dog meals, dog-friendly spaces, treats and toys to make their stay (and yours) paw-sitively perfect. Know, though, that they occasionally come at a cost — you may be hit with a nonrefundable pet fee (per night or per stay) or a charge for using certain pet amenities.
How do you know which pet-friendly properties are worth using your hard-earned dollars (or points) to visit? Here are the 15 best dog-friendly hotels in the U.S. — and what you need to know when booking.
El Portal Sedona Hotel doesn't just welcome pets; it was designed specifically with their needs in mind. The hotel has several rooms with outdoor, fenced-in patios, and there is easy-to-clean tile and wood flooring throughout. Plus, canine guests receive a welcome basket with treats, a blanket and doggie bags for cleaning up after their business.
In the boutique hotel's 12 guest rooms, you'll find custom-designed interiors with nods to Sedona's natural beauty and vibrant arts community. Dogs are welcome to join you in bed for snuggles, but know that you cannot leave them in your guest room unattended.
When you and your pooch are ready to venture outside your room, visit Sedona's many pet-friendly hiking paths, pet stores and restaurants. Several can be found within a short drive of the property.
Rates start at $329 per night. El Portal Sedona Hotel does not charge a pet fee.
When you bring your dog to Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, the two of you will experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perfect your surfing skills … together. The hotel offers pet owners a 10% discount on paddle and surf lessons through a partnership with SUPDog Hawaii.
Additionally, hotel guests have access to a drop-off doggie daycare service and can bond with the property's resident dog named Jack (he even has his own Instagram account ). Jack is available for doggie play dates and can also offer suggestions for pet-friendly spots around Waikiki.
The hotel is only a few blocks from Waikiki Beach, so it's only fitting that the accommodations (which have up to three bedrooms) exude the laid-back surfer style you'd expect to find at a beach hotel in Hawaii. Room decor features natural woods and ocean-blue hues. As an added bonus: There's no weight limit for four-legged companions.
Outside the rooms, you can take a dip in the pool, which has tiles that spell out "Wish you were here." When you work up an appetite, check out the on-site restaurant, where fresh seafood and other locally inspired dishes are on the menu.
Rates start at $200 per night. Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club does not charge a pet fee.
If you love to pamper your pet, head to Pasea Hotel & Spa. The hotel's Very Important Pet (VIP) Package lets you spoil your pup with dog-friendly accommodations, a keepsake dog collar, a leash, a toy, a complimentary pet entree from the hotel restaurant and a waived pet fee.
The hotel also has multiple pet-friendly public spaces, including a pup play park — a 1,100-square-foot fenced-in play area — and a rooftop restaurant called Treehouse by Tanner's, which serves a special pet menu. Additional amenities include a pool and pool bar, a full-service spa, a coffee shop and a restaurant that serves coastal cuisine. Guests receive complimentary access to beach bikes, scooters, towels, chairs and umbrellas, too, so you can enjoy a leisurely beach day without incurring a bunch of extra fees.
As for accommodations, you'll have your pick of rooms with private balconies facing the ocean. The decor reflects the sandy beach and ocean blue hues outside your window, and dogs of all sizes are welcome.
The Very Important Pet (VIP) Package starts at $450 per night. Pasea Hotel & Spa charges a nonrefundable pet fee of $150 per stay.
The Kimpton Brice Hotel sits right in the middle of Savannah, Georgia's Historic District and is within walking distance of River Street and City Market, so you'll never run out of Savannah landmarks to explore with your pup. But if you do, don't fret: This pet-friendly, 145-room boutique hotel can also provide a list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants and parks that you and your dog will both enjoy.
Should you need some pet essentials during your stay, you can request a pet bed, pet food, water bowls and waste bags to use. You and your furry friend will love the lack of a pet fee and the well-appointed accommodations, which are elegant but have a bit of flair. They come equipped with luxury amenities like Atelier Bloem bath products and yoga mats.
The modern Southern charm continues in the public spaces. Inside the lobby, you'll find comfortable spaces surrounded by modern art. The space serves as the perfect place to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
While food and beverage options are limited, you'll be more than content with your choices. The Secret Garden is a gorgeous outdoor spot to have afternoon tea or evening cocktails, plus Pacci Italian Kitchen + Bar, which merges classic Southern fare with old-world Italian cooking.
Rates start at $134 or 26,000 IHG One Rewards points per night. The Kimpton Brice Hotel does not charge a pet fee.
Kimpton prides itself on being a pet-friendly brand, and Nashville's Kimpton Aertson Hotel delivers on that promise.

Guests also receive a discount on walking, boarding and dog-sitting services through Wag! — a service that connects pet owners with pet-related services.
Throughout the boutique hotel, you'll notice an eclectic mix of industrial and hip decor, with poured concrete floors and a front desk fashioned from blue, hand-knotted rope. The 180 guest rooms have a similar vibe, with black, gray and blue color schemes, plus wood and concrete accents.
Don't forget to check out the hotel's rooftop pool and sit for a meal at the Southern-style restaurant next door.
Rates start at $160 or 27,000 IHG One Rewards points per night. The Kimpton Aertson Hotel does not charge a pet fee.

You'll also get a complimentary plush dog toy, a travel bowl, a Lockwood-branded keepsake, waste bags and a discount card to the local Loyalty Biscuit Co. Pet beds are available upon request as well.
There are only 53 guest rooms and suites here and not all permit pets (those that do allow up to two pets per room), so aim to book your stay as far in advance as possible. Additional amenities available outside the accommodations include a full-service restaurant, complimentary parking and a 24-hour fitness room.

Still, there are plenty of modern touches in the rooms. Standard amenities include Nespresso coffee makers, flat-screen TVs and comfortable beds with tufted headboards and built-in reading lights. Plus, guests who book the hotel's Pup-arazzi Adventure package receive a Foundry Hotel dog bandana and various goodies, including a one-hour photo session with a local photographer and a voucher for a complimentary DIY dog bath from Patton Avenue Pet Company, a local holistic pet supply store.
The Pup-arazzi Adventure Package starts at $460 and does not include overnight accommodations. Non-package rates start at $183 or 53,000 Hilton Honors points per night. The Foundry Hotel charges a nonrefundable pet fee of $150 per pet, per stay.
