Lady Gaga finally revives Chromatica Ball tour with new 2022 concert dates

More than two years after announcing the Chromatica tour, Gaga will finally hit the road in support of the Grammy-winning album with a slew of new dates.

lady gaga chromatica tour 2022

Rocket No. 9 is taking off to the planet Chromatica once again, as Lady Gaga finally rescheduled her highly anticipated Chromatica Ball tour dates more than two years after their initial announcement.

According to a tweet shared Monday by Gaga, the tour will now expand to 15 dates around the world, beginning July 17 and stretching through September 10.

Gaga initially announced the Chromatica Ball tour to coincide with the album's original rollout in 2020, though the coronavirus pandemic forced the global tour's postponement twice: once to the summer of 2021, and again to 2022.

Released in May of 2020, Chromatica debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and produced two top-five hits: Lead single "Stupid Love" and the No. 1-bowing Ariana Grande collaboration "Rain On Me." To date, the House of Gucci actress has only promoted Chromatica with one televised concert performance at the 2020 MTV VMAs, where she took the stage with Grande to perform a medley of tunes from the album.

In addition to the Chromatica Ball , album producer BloodPop previously told EW the team behind the studio set has also worked on continuing the Chromatica era in different ways — including a potential rollout of unreleased songs recorded during the LP's early sessions.

"We worked with SOPHIE very early on. [She was] the first collaborator of those sessions," he told EW shortly after the album's release, referencing late Scottish producer SOPHIE's contributions to the gestation cycle. "Those days were fun. We set up six microphones and recorded [Gaga's] Lamborghini exhaust, and SOPHIE cut it up into samples. [Though they didn't make the album], we still plan to finish those songs and present something special within the Chromatica universe."

See the setlist for the Chromatica Ball — Lady Gaga's highly-anticipated 2022 world tour

Lady Gaga is back and better than ever for her first tour in four years: the Chromatica Ball.

The 36-year-old pop star is bringing out some of her classics as well as her newer work, including tracks from her 2020 dance album “Chromatica,” as well as the soundtracks for “A Star Is Born” and “Top Gun: Maverick.”

We scoured social media to find out what she performed at the tour's first stop on Sunday, July 17 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Here's what we discovered.

The Chromatica Ball setlist is:

  • Introduction
  • “Bad Romance”
  • “Poker Face”
  • “Just Dance”
  • “Chromatica I” into “Alice”
  • “Chromatica II” into “911”
  • “Sour Candy”
  • “Telephone”
  • “Chromatica III” into “Babylon”
  • “Free Woman”
  • “Born This Way”
  • “Always Remember Us This Way”
  • “The Edge Of Glory”
  • “Stupid Love”
  • “Rain On Me”
  • “Hold My Hand”

Some fans were disappointed that no songs from her 2013 album "Artpop" or 2016 album "Joanne" were included in the evening's roster of music.

The Chromatica Ball stage

Gaga shared a photo of the stage to her socials on Sunday night with the caption, "This is my dance floor I fought for," lyrics from the song "Free Woman."

In a video shared on her Instagram moments before taking to the stage, Lady Gaga also revealed some details surrounding the Chromatica Ball, which was originally planned for 2020 but was  postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic , explaining, “The stage was inspired by brutalist architecture, materials, textures, crudity, transparency — a real savage and hard look at yourself, what you’ve been though.”

“I want to tell a story but with abstractions and art, so this show celebrates things that I have always loved,” she added. “Art and fashion and dance and music and technology, poetry, and the way all of those things work together.”

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 10: Lady Gaga performs onstage during The Chromatica Ball Tour at Dodger Stadium on September 10, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/Getty Images for Live Nation)

Freddie Freeman was hitting homers down in San Diego, so it was up to visiting superstar Lady Gaga to keep the on-base percentage exceptionally high Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, site of one of the last stops on her “Chromatica Ball” outing. Surprises were few, this many weeks into a mega-tour whose production values were already known among the legions of Little Monsters who’d long since put curious paws to Googling Gaga’s setlists and setpieces.

As the singer reminded the audience, this occasion was a long time in coming, as Gaga is effectively bringing up the rear among performers who had tours scheduled for mid-2020 and are finally making good on them. She’s no Taylor Swift, consigning her “Lover Fests” to the dustbin of necessarily abandoned ideas; Gaga has remained undaunted in making it clear that 2020’s “Chromatica” is the album she is very much touring behind, with 10 songs from the two-year-old album accounting for just under half the overall set. There was a sense of post-pandemic victory to Gaga’s increasingly lengthy asides, late in the two-hour-plus concert — “The whole world did not fade. We’re all here, in some kind of way,” she said. But, as an undertow, you might detect a sense of vindication for the “Chromatica” record itself, in how she’s determined not to let it go down as a lamb that got lost in the storm.

Once those three introductory hits were out of the way and Gaga regained full control of her life and limbs for the next hour and 45 minutes, title cards periodically appeared on screen, establishing “Act I” through “Act V” and subsequent finales and denouements. Unlike her long-running “Enigma” show in Las Vegas, this tour has none of those scripted, philosophical monologues, so it’s not easy to suss whether there’s a real narrative arc at play in her mind or whether the ”act” business just provides cover for costume changes. There was undeniably an element of the momentum going into stall mode every time Gaga disappeared from sight for four or five minutes. But, as costuming spectacle goes, you’d be hard-pressed to argue it wasn’t worth the lull when the singer would suddenly reappeared in a bodysuit made out of what looked like innards-revealing, torso-hugging plexiglas, or better still, all masked up as a lovely, if intimidating, purple mantis.

She and her dozen or so dancers worked hard for the money for the first two-thirds of the show, working up enough monsoonal moisture to breathe sweaty life into “Chromatica” album tracks that might’ve slipped a fan’s mind, like the very pandemic-premonitory-feeling “911.” The set warmed up, eventually, after being established in the show’s beginnings with a monochromatic feel Gaga herself has said was inspired by architectual brutalism. (Gaga could sound a little Germanic herself in the early going as she repeatedly commanded the audience to “get your fucking hands in the air,” with a commandeering scowl and harsh make-up that was its own kind of brutal.)

But then, past the halfway point, the crowd of 52,000 saw that platform at second base pay off with an extended solo segment that gave the audience the unmitigated, uninterrupted Gaga that would form a solid basis for a fine one-woman stadium show, should she ever want to attempt that ballsy a gambit. Sitting at a piano that had been formulated to appear as something growing organically out of gnarly forest limbs and trunks, the queen of poker faces smiled for the first time all evening (not counting a sinister giggle earlier) and turned Dodger Stadium into an enchanted pop forest with a clinching series of solo ballads and, yes, motivational speeches.

For some of us, no show Gaga ever does will outdo her “Jazz and Piano” residency in Vegas, where she was more parts Rosemary Clooney than Grace Jones. But, of course, you’re not getting the full Gaga if you’re getting her in Irving Berlin mode. And in this show, the affected but still affecting intimacy of the solo segment made for a dynamic setup to a final stretch back on the main stage that made her dance-teria mode seem like her best mode after all.

Coming after a quieter, more thoughtful segment, “Stupid Love,” an up-tempo track that seemed kind of underwhelming when it was introduced as “Chromatica’s” first single two and a half years ago, suddenly weirdly felt like a visceral kick in the pants. And “Rain on Me,” too, finally felt as cathartic as Gaga meant it to. (After the crowd had just narrowly dodged an unseasonable L.A. precipitation bullet, it’s a good thing being an actual rainmaker is not among Gaga’s talents.)

The most interesting superstars are the ones that walk fine lines, and Gaga certainly continues to do that. After “Joanne,” and especially after the world discovered — via “A Star Is Born” — that she’s conventionally pretty, she could have further played the authenticity card for all it’s worth. But in the spirit of those “Keep Austin weird” bumper stickers Texans used to brandish, Gaga has determined to keep herself weird — or just weird enough to provide necessarily ballast to her more earnest inclinations. It’s clear, by the end of a show, that she just wants to give the disenfranchised world a hug. But with costuming that include jagged shoulder cones, it’s not clear how that’s going to happen without blood involved.

Lady Gaga ’s Chromatica Ball world tour is in full swing! After being postponed twice, Mother Monster’s highly anticipated tour launched in Germany in July and will roll into Toronto this weekend, followed by Washington, D.C., on Aug. 8 and Gaga’s hometown of New York City on Aug. 11.

First announced in 2020, the tour was pushed back two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and fans have been showing up in droves to rock out with the Oscar winner and 13-time Grammy winner. The tour has already raked in more than $80 million , and many of the tickets, both overseas and Stateside, have already sold out.

“Europe is over 88% sold with 70,000 tickets sold in Paris, 76,000 in London and opener in Düsseldorf, Germany, completely sold out,” Arthur Fogel, president of global touring and chairman for concerts at Live Nation, told Billboard . “Toronto is sold out, New York is basically sold out, Wrigley Field is sold out. Tokyo’s two shows at the Tokyo Dome are sold out — it’s amazing.”

Tickets to the tour are available on Ticketmaster , StubHub , Vivid Seats , SeatGeek (and Gaga’s website) . Passes start at around $56-$110, depending on the ticketing outlet.

Gaga explained the concept behind the Chromatica Ball, which is named after her sixth studio album released in 2020, in a video posted to Instagram last month.

“I wanted to tell a story with abstractions and art,” Gaga shared in an emotional message to fans after the first night of the tour. “This show celebrates things that I have always loved: art, fashion, dance, music, technology, poetry and the way all of those things work together. Everybody has worked so hard on this show, and we love you so much. We’re so grateful.”

“I want to allow you all to interpret this show in the way that you want to, but I will say it really documents the many different stages and sides of grief and the manic energy of grief that I feel like I’ve experience in my life,” she continued. “I really want to thank you for sticking it out with me and loving me through all the different iterations of my artistry as well as me as a person. I feel more clear today than I have in a long time and more pain free than I have in ages. And being free of pain on stage is a real healing experience because I’m able to dance and sing and enjoy the audience, enjoy the show, and really tell a story.”

The Chromatica Ball is scheduled to wrap on Sept. 17 in Miami.

Lady Gaga Announces 2022 Chromatica Ball Summer Stadium Tour

The long-anticipated announcement of Lady Gaga’s full touring plans were announced Monday morning, with The Chromatica Ball 2022 Summer Stadium Tour dates dropped at 10 a.m. The tour had initially been planned for the summer of 2020, but has been been pushed back due to COVID several times before finally landing in the summer of 2022.

Lady Gaga tour dates begin in Europe in July, heading to North America beginning in August. The Chromatica Ball 2022 Summer Stadium Tour currently shows 15 shows planned in 14 cities – London is scheduled for two dates. This follows her existing April-May plans for her Jazz & Piano residency in Las Vegas . Some fans had expressed frustration at the announcement of her Las Vegas shows, given that some had purchased tickets for The Chromatica Ball tour when it was originally announced in March 2020 . It was pushed first into 2021 and then moved to the summer of 2022 as of June last year , but hadn’t been solidified until this week.

Initially, The Chromatica Ball tour consisted of six dates – Paris, London, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, and New Jersey/New York. The newly announced tour dates add another eight cities – three in the EU and five in the United States – and a second show in London.

Lady Gaga’s tour is now scheduled to kick off in Germany on July 17, winding through Stockholm (July 21), Paris (July 24) and Arnhem (July 26) before that leg closes with back-to-back London concerts on July 29 and 30. Toronto launches the North American run on August 6, with Washington D.C. (August 8), New York (August 11), Chicago (August 15), Boston (August 19), Dallas (August 23), Atlanta (August 26) and San Francisco (September 8) before a final show on September 10 in Los Angeles.

Tickets for the six originally scheduled shows in 2020 are already on sale for the 2022 dates. For the newly scheduled shows, Lady Gaga Chromatica Ball tickets are on sale beginning this week. For most dates, there are an array of presales beginning Tuesday, March 8 and lasting through Friday, March 11, with a general public sale date on Monday, March 14.

Cloudbuster

It's hilarious how she thinks she's some massive touring juggernaut in the same vein as Coldplay, U2 and Metallica. Some of those dates (announced two years ago) haven't even sold out yet and it starts in a week. I'm guessing we'll see thousands of cheap tickets suddenly start appearing in a few days time to make it look like it's a "sellout", and even if they can't flog those to some poor unfortunate souls they'll try to cover up the large empty spots with tarpaulin or block them off entirely in a desperate bid to hide the truth from the GP. Not sure why she's even touring with that awful flop album in the first place, but I guess we'll get some laughs out of this tour if nothing else. Fact is, no one but her ever decreasing fanbase cares about Lady Gaga in 2022 and haven't for a very long time.

Lol why so bitter babe? Did she kill off all your family or something? Relax, take a deep breath. Lady Gaga is doing just fine.

avatar

That person just wrote what they thought about Gaga. She isn't popular like in 2009, so no need to compare her to big acts.

avatar

Mad that you think she compares herself to Coldplay and Metallica…..fact is she sets a standard when it comes to her tour production and has done so since her first big tour ( Fame Monster) ball. Subsequently her fans have come to expect not just a concert but a “show” …..and Lady Gaga is not one artist who is going to short change those fans. btw …..does anyone apart from Metallica and U2’s loyal fanbase care about them in 2022 ? ……no, i thought not

Well your standards are very low if you think using inflatables as stage props, wearing terrible costumes and stomping around and squealing like a demented hog is "setting a standard". It doesn't give the impression you're getting value for money, quite the opposite. The fact that she's only touring stadiums this time around gives the impression she thinks she's bigger than she actually is, and yes, she does think about Metallica's numbers considering she used an image from one of their dates to fool people into believing the huge audience was from one of her ARTRAVE dates, LOL and completely hilarious watching her scrambling for excuses when she was called out for lying, but Lady Gaga once said that lies are more interesting than the truth, so is anyone surprised by her constant stream of verbal Diarrhea?

The radical fans refuse to see the truth, bad show, terrible last album, just pandering to easily manipulated fans, let them enjoy that mediocrity

Oh shut up. Go take your meds and go to sleep. Lady Gaga is one of the biggest pop artists and best entertainers today and her ticket prices are expensive for that very reason, lol!

You sound like an obsessed weirdo by the way you talk about her in a deranged manner and seem to keep tabs on her every move. The mental facilities are open 24/7, feel free to check in any time.

and you're acting like a sunburnt snowflake the way you're carrying on. It's funny how Little Monsters always react in a similar way whenever she gets the slightest bit of criticism from non fans. Mental facilities are also open 24/7 for you too, which you'll probably need this week when the news of her choreographer starts spreading like wildfire. The onslaught of negativity of her continuing to work with sexual predators and hypocrisy to preach about "mental illness" will be deafening. The one star tour reviews will be the cherry on the cake. lol

Sounds like you're the one that needs to take their meds, Lady Gaga hasn't been successful as a solo artist since 2009. Her career was a car-crash circa Born This Way and it took Bradley Cooper to pull her from the wreckage for ASIB. Everyone thought she would build on that sound and then she released...Chromatica. lol First (solo) single turned out to be a monumental flop and the album dropped down the charts quicker than a lead balloon. She can't get a #1 single these days without collaborations. Oh and the cheap tickets sold first and the expensive ones still remain - some of those tickets have been on sale for months. Hardly impressive for (what you call) one of the best entertainers today. lol Pretty sure Adele and Taylor Swift aren't quaking in their boots over this 20 date tour that no one's interested in.

What criticism? Don't shroud deranged behavior and twisting of reality under "criticism". But hey keep yelling to the clouds, hoping someone will hear your prayer! Rofl! You WISH Lady Gaga got canceled but she'll stick around and haunt your worst nightmares forever!

You just made all of that up ! I can see why her success is keeping you up and bothered like this.

avatar

LindaVanVegchel

Cloudbuster you are a hater. Real fans of Lady Gaga will always go to her concerts. And support her. She is as talented as Coldplay, U2 and Metallica. I am fan of these bands as well. She is a very talented singer, songwriter, piano player and actress.

why are you so agressive? Do you not agree that GAga isn't that popualr anymore? Then how come her albums aren't charting that long like The Fame? It's not a bad thing, it's how it goes in pop world. Pop stars turn 30 , they aren't fresh and hot and only their fans want them. Just accept it

I feel like my heart is bursting with gratitude for my own health and MUSIC," Lady Gaga wrote. From 'Telephone' with Beyoncé to Cheek to Cheek with Tony Bennett, See Lady Gaga's Most A-List Collaborations

The Grammy winner, who turns 38 on March 28, is a known hitmaker, but she has also worked with some mega-talented collaborators

This star was born on March 28!

Lady Gaga , who turns 38 today, has been giving us pop anthems for more than 15 years and along the way has collaborated with many super-talented partners.

From her show-stopping performance alongside Bradley Cooper at the 2019 Oscars to her years-long friendship with Tony Bennett that took the duo across the world together, here are some of the Grammy winner's most A-list duets and collaborations.

Bradley Cooper

When Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga stepped into the roles of Jackson and Ally in 2018's A Star Is Born their chemistry was palpable . The two not only delivered impressive performances as actors but they sang beautiful songs for the film's soundtrack including the Grammy and Oscar award-winning song Shallow.

"Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see," Gaga told Jimmy Kimmel of the pair's buzzy Oscars performance of the song. "[Shallow] is a love song,  A Star Is Born  is a love story. It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time … When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel."

Ariana Grande

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande joined forces as pop royalty for "Rain on Me," off Gaga's 2020 album Chromatica.

The song won the duo multiple awards including a Grammy. Though neither were present to accept the award, Grande shared her excitement online with Gaga who was filming House of Gucci in Italy at the time.

"MOTHER MONSTER WAKE UP @ladygaga!!!!!!!!???" Grande tweeted at the time.

"eternally, deeply grateful for u, for this experience, to have been a part of this song and this celebration of healing and recovery, to be able to dance in the rain with u, to call u my dear friend & to now share this. beyond thankful," she added in a second tweet. "congratulations queen, ti voglio bene !" — "I love you" in Italian.

Back in 2009, Lady Gaga teamed up with Beyoncé for the Grammy-nominated song "Telephone," — off Gaga's The Fame Monster — which included an epic music video. The two also collaborated on a remix of Beyoncé's "Video Phone," which they also shot a music video for.

“I love Gaga,” Beyoncé has previously said. “If she didn’t perform and she wasn’t a singer, just as a human being I love her to death. I’m all about women working together and supporting each other and learning from each other.”

Tony Bennett

After first meeting at a gala in 2011, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett would embark on a beautiful friendship both on and off the stage. They first collaborated shortly after their first meeting on Bennett's  Duets II  singing "The Lady Is a Tramp."

"It was the first time I heard Lady perform," Bennett told Parade  in 2014 of their first meeting. "And I could not believe the audience's reaction."

He added: "The first thing I said was, 'Let's do an album together.' And she said, 'Okay.' That quick. I just love what she did on [our album,  Cheek to   Cheek ]. She's up there with Ella Fitzgerald, who was the greatest singer in the world."

The two worked together several times over the years including a world tour, a second album called Love for Sale and a Radio City Music Hall performance titled One Last Time following the announcement from Bennett's family  that he was living with Alzheimer's disease .

Following his death in July 2023, Gaga paid tribute to her dear friend in an emotional post to Instagram where she wrote: "I will miss my friend forever."

“I will miss singing with him, recording with him, talking with him, being on stage together,"  she added. "With Tony, I got to live my life in a time warp. Tony & I had this magical power," she continued. "We transported ourselves to another era, modernized the music together, & gave it all new life as a singing duo. But it wasn’t an act. Our relationship was very real.”

When it came to her 2020 dance album Chromatica, Mother Monster was sure to enlist the help of some other superstars. In addition to "Rain on Me" with Grande, she also teamed up with Korean girl group  BLACKPINK for the song "Sour Candy."

Also featured on Chromatica is Elton John , who appears on the song “Sine from Above" which refers to a sine wave — the mathematical symbol for sound that appears on the album's cover.

When talking about the album, Gaga told Zane Lowe “And, for me, sound is what healed me in my life period, and it healed me again making this record, and that is really what  Chromatica  is all about."

The duo's bond runs even deeper than their musical collaborations as Gaga is godmother to John and David Furnish's sons, Zachary and Elijah .

Christina Aguilera joined Lady Gaga onstage during the 2013 season finale of The Voice to sing her song, "Do What U Want" where they both rocked coordinated shimmery ensembles and blonde hair.

E! News reported that Gaga requested Aguilera perform with her after she was asked to join the finale.

"This is the first time we've ever met and I have to say, when I heard she wanted to collaborate I said, 'Of course!  Lady Gaga !' I've been waiting to meet her. She's such an innovative artist and a risk taker and as a fellow female, I have so much respect for that," Aguilera said of the request, per E! News
