SABATON Announces 2022 North American Tour With EPICA; BLABBERMOUTH.NET Presale

Swedish metallers SABATON have announced "The Tour To End All Tours - North America 2022" , a 25-date U.S. trek that will include a special headline show at Montreal's Place Bell, the band's first-ever arena headline concert in Canada. The tour, produced by FPC Live , kicks off on Thursday, September 15 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Washington, and will wrap up at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on October 23. Supporting SABATON on all dates will be special guest EPICA , the renowned Dutch symphonic metal band.

A special BLABBERMOUTH.NET presale will begin on Thursday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. local time and end on Thursday, March 17 at 10:00 p.m. local time. When prompted, type in the presale code "BLABBERMOUTH" to access tickets before the general public. General on-sale will be Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m. local time.

Known for its high-energy and electrifying live shows, each song in SABATON 's repertoire is an epic tale of real-life military encounters and the men and women who lived them. Despite the thousands of shows SABATON has performed, the lineup — Joakim Brodén (vocals, keys), Pär Sundström (bass), Chris Rörland (guitar), Tommy Johansson (guitar) and Hannes Van Dahl (drums) — not only sets a potent tone of power and velocity while having so much fun on stage, but a communal one, not just interacting with each other, but engaging those in the audience and playing every show with the intensity of their first.

"We're all looking forward to this tour," said Pär Sundström . "It will have been three years since we've brought our headline show to America, so we are more ready than ever. And, with the release of our new album, we now have a vault full of new songs to play."

"The Tour To End All Tours" is in support of SABATON 's tenth album, "The War To End All Wars" , which was released March 4 ( Nuclear Blast ) and is receiving glowing reviews: BraveWords called the album "a work of art," The Metal Voice described it as "a masterpiece... SABATON 's 'Dark Side Of The Moon' ," and Metal Injection dubbed it "epic in scope and attitude."

"With our last album, 'The Great War' ," added Brodén , "we found that we had only scratched the surface in terms of the powerful stories of courage and bravery and also the horrors that took place during the first World War. Fans would contact us and tell us these amazing stories from World War One that none of us had ever heard of before. Incredible stories about everyday people who were willing to give their lives for something bigger than themselves. These were stories of a frightening and liberating time in history that had to be told."

Live Review: Sabaton at the Fillmore Auditorium, Denver Colorado, with special guests Epica

Sabaton’s North American ‘Tour to End All Tours’ fills the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver Colorado, September 29, 2022 with special guests, Epica.

By Terrell Stewart | min read |  September 30, 2022

Sabaton - Fillmore Auditorium Denver, 29th Sept 2022 - Terrell Stewart

I made my way to the Fillmore Auditorium excited to see the show I was covering that evening, headliners Sabaton , with special guests Epica . As I came to the venue, the line of fans working their way to get in, stretched for over two blocks. I met up with two photographer friends I was sharing the pit with, and we made our way in. The venue was filling up fast and the merch lines were very long. Opening tonight's show was a band that hadn’t been to the US in over 5 years, Epica . I was so looking forward to covering them again. The lights came down and with a roar from the audience the band members took to the stage and started their set with, “Abyss of Time” from the 2021 album, Omega. Moments later, Simone Simons made her to the front of the stage singing with the crowd cheering! Dressed in a black top and skirt lined with silver sequins and her long flowing red hair, her beautiful voice filled the auditorium.

Right away the members of Epica started moving about the stage and interacting with each other and the crowd. Moving through their set and around the stage, hair dancing around their heads and smiles on their faces, Epica powered out their talents that had their fans moving about waving their hands and absorbing the energy pouring from the stage.

Moving back and forth in time with songs like 2014’s, “Victims of Contingency” , “Cry for the Moon”  from their 2003 album, 'The Phantom Agony', and a personal favorite, the song that turned me on to the band, 2012’s “Storm the Sorrow” from the album, 'Requiem for the Indifferent'.

Keyboardist Coen Janssen stepped forward carrying his curved keyboard and moved about the stage letting his fingers dance across the keys as Simone’s vocals mesmerized the crowd. Epica finished their set with, “Consign to Oblivion” from their 2005 album of the same name. After a quick photo on stage, Epica turned to their cheering fans and took their bows but the fans cheered even louder not wanting them to leave just yet. What a pleasure to see them again. I hope it's not five years before I see them again.

With the barbed wire stretched across the front of the stage, helmets mounted on the mic stands and the tank resizer with its large machine guns and Hannes Van Dahl's drums on top. The stage was set for Sabaton . The crowd roared, "Sabaton... Sabaton... Sabaton..." , then a video started about WWl, the crowd watched and cheered as the video talked about how the US entering the war made a huge difference.

sabaton epica tour

As the video ended, Sabaton took to the stage and started their set with “Ghost Division”  from their 2008 album, 'The Art of War'. The packed venue roared as Sabaton unleashed their music onto the crowd. At the end of the song, lead singer Joakim Brodén took off his sunglasses as the crowd once again roared "Sabaton... Sabaton..." With a big smile, he pointed and waved to the crowd and stated how happy they were to be back in Denver. He then mentioned last year's show where they played almost three hours in an unbelievable night of music and fun.

sabaton epica tour

Joakim then mentioned they would move through their show because they promised drummer Hannes Van Dahl’s mother that they would have him home by 11pm. With a cheer from the crowd Joakim asked, will you sing with us tonight? With their fans screaming "yes" , the band broke into “The Red Baron” and indeed the fans sang as loud as they could. At this point, Sabaton was just getting their night started.

Throughout their set, playing the old with the new, the band moved about the stage throwing their hair and enticing the crowd to join in while the power from them all filled the venue. Powering songs like, “Carolus Rex” from the 2012 album of the same name and 'Shiroyama' from the 2016 album, 'The Last Stand'.

In their encore, lead guitarist, Tommy Johansson wowed the crowd with his cover of, “Highway to Hell” . Sabaton finished their set with, “ To Hell and Back” from their 2014 album, 'Heroes'.

Taking their bows to the crowd one more chanting, "Sabaton... Sabaton...", the night seemed to go by quickly, but then again, this wasn’t last year's show, but like the last few times I have seen Sabaton, it was a great show to witness.

Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002, by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen. They have maintained career success, with their symphonic metal, especially with their latest release “The Quantum Enigma” making it into the Top 40 of seven different countries.

Mark Jansen led a group of musicians in 2002 complete with a small string section made up of three violins two violas two cellos and an upright bass to record a two-song demo entitled “Cry for the Moon” in 2002. As a result of this, they were fortunately signed to Transmission Records. “The Phantom Agony” released on June 5th 2003, was the first full-length studio album by Epica. It went to number 8 in the Dutch Album Chart. Their following album “Consign to Oblivion” which was released on April 21st 2005 made it to number 12 in the Dutch Album Chart but also charted in Belgium and France. Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman were cited as major inspirations. Following the release of this album, Epica embarked on their first tour of North America with Kamelot.

Their third album, “The Divine Conspiracy” released on September 7th 2007 saw the band do their first headline tour of North America. The first single from the album “Never Enough” was released almost a month before on August 10th 2007. The album, again earned the band more chart success with the album now charting in Germany and Switzerland. They released a live album called “The Classical Conspiracy” on May 8th 2009, which charted in the Netherlands, France, Germany and Switzerland.

They returned to the studio in 2009 to work on their album “Design Tour Universe”. Upon release, it earned very similar acclaim to the previous record, of course is still an incredible achievement to maintain such a loyal fanbase. Three years later on March 9th 2012, Epica released “Requiem for the Indifferent” which charted in nine countries. All music stated that it is a “typically elaborate and ambitious affair, incorporating copious amounts of choral work and classical arrangements into the band’s neatly established blend of goth, progressive and symphonic metal.” For this album, the band did a world tour, this time, visiting South America.

It was “The Quantum Enigma” that proves that Epica are relentlessly sticking to their art and taking the world by storm with their music as it became their most successful record yet. Released on May 2nd 2014, it made it to number four in the Dutch Album Charts this time around, charting in the US and UK too

Live reviews

After a few years of waiting I could finally see Epica again at the Oosterpoort in Groningen. The German band Xandria was present as support. From both bands' performances, I had to miss a little bit. because of the interviews with guitarist Isaac Delahaye (Epica) and singer Dianne van Giersbergen (Xandria).

Having done several shows in the past 12 years, including Retrospect, Epica has done this show really well. Because the band loves our cold little country so much, they had therefore this show scheduled for their fans. Soprano singer Simone Simons and rhythm guitarist/growler Mark Jansen, still now very well, just like the other members (keyboardist Coen Janssen, bassist Rob van der Loo and drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek) how to throw a party with their fans.

The music is, as we can expect from Epica, melodic and symphonic metal, sometimes with death- and gothic metal influences, while the lyrical themes are about religion, society, politics and philosophy, but sometimes, they also have some personal touches.

The sound during the show was wonderful, although I had to wear earplugs mandatory, because I would otherwise become deaf too fast. During the silence, I could take them out for a while, so that I could hear and understand what the band all said to us.

As always, the band does a great stage act, so I can only be positive about it. What I also liked was the drum solo of Ariën, right after "Cry For The Moon", which he had also done at Retrospect.

Xandria is also a must. The word was of course done by Dianne in her native language (Dutch), while they did their songs in English, which of course is quite logical in the metal music, but also, the men of the band (guitarist Marco Heubaum and Philip Restemeier, drummer Gerit Lamm and bassist Steven Wussow) know how to encourage us to rock with them, haha.

Conclusion: from my perspective, it became a top performance, all in all.

Metallica, Apolcalytica and now Epica. All cards on the table – their music is completely epic. Their title isn’t a lie! Hailing from the Netherlands, their career spanning twelve years thus far, Epica are really making a buzz in the metal scene with their huge symphonic metal. Huge chugging palm muted distorted guitar chords, fused with huge orchestral textures layered on top of what is going on. They of course have a secret weapon, in the form of Simon Simons, the soprano singer fronting the band, whose range is utterly stratospheric, her voice reaching extremely high notes, adorned by a classically trained falsetto.

“Unleashed” is the song that immediately sounds like something from Phantom of the Opera Simons, using her classically trained falsetto, alongside her belting range, which flows over the chorus of this compound time metal hit, which makes you want to stand on the top of a mountain in Middle Earth using your longbow against ring wraiths.

Who knows, maybe they will grace the BBC with the BBC Philharmonic, although, you’ve gotta hand it to keyboard player Coen Jansseen making it sound like a full orchestra is coming out of his keyboard! More Timps please!

Freakin' good show last night @ l'Impérial despite Epica not playing, The Agonist were in fire, they played an extra 15 mins which was really appreciated and it was awesome. My favorite symphonic metal band, Epica, along with Dragonforce and Dagoba. Three amazing bands coming to Lisbon. So, the decision to go was easy to make, and it was a fantastic experience. Dagoba played only five songs but the energy displayed was that of a headliner. Dragonforce played a couple more songs than Dagoba, but also with technical and captivating mastery. And then Epica. Each band member connect very well with the audience and among themselves. The chemistry is contagious and crowd and band feel like a true family. With heavy songs combined with lighter ones, it is a show to remember and that I will revisit in my mind many times in the months to come.

The show was good, but the people... ugh terrible! It made my experience not so enjoyable. The promoter should not allow alcoholic drinks, or at least take drunk people outside. There were two guys totally drunk pushing people (myself included), disturbing the ones who wanted to enjoy the show. What is the point of going to a concert if you're too wasted to even listen?... Besides that, the venue was small and a nightmare for short people like myself.

Bands were on stage on time, really appreciated! Good sound, good light arrangements.

The show was veryyy awesome! No more words, because I can Deconstruct that energy´s show! Or I will needed Design My Universe again... rs

Simone is a Diva with your voice as Valquirya! Mark becomes at The show an heavy, strong and beatiful with gultural´s voice... remenbered your performance with guitar... Isaac, Coen and Arien are wizards... masters in yours instruments... man, that guys are very awesome! Thanks Epica for that Show in São Paulo!

It was a nice surprise to discover Diablo Blvd. a very good belgium Band which i enjoyed much.

I came for DragenForce and despite the absence of Vadim (Keyboard), it was terrific good to hear and see them again.

Epica was also quite good, they started strognly and finished well. Last album does not seem to be my preference. The show was good but the best music remains by far Dragonforce! this constellation of the 3 groups is a very one! Norbert

Amazing concert! I originally bought the tickets for Powerwolf, but Epica and Beyond the Black were awesome as well. In the beginning there were some technical issues with the sound, but this was fixed rather quickly. I really liked the people who worked there, very friendly. The pauses between the bands could have been shorter, and the drinks were really expensive. Nontheless we had a great evening, thank you!

Setlist + Video – Judas Priest + Sabaton Kick Off North American Tour

I n support of their new album Invincible Shield , Judas Priest kicked off their North American tour last night (April 18) in Wallingford, Ct. with special guest Sabaton .

The Metal Gods took the stage at the Oakdale Theatre and ripped through an 18-song set that heavily focused on the new record, British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance . Honoring a sizable chunk of the back catalog, Judas Priest played one song off six other albums and two from 1978’s Killing Machine (known to some as Hell Bent for Leather ).

The set mostly mirrored what most fans in Europe already saw the last few weeks, with some slight deviations. Priest also switched up the set on occasion during that run, so we’ll see if the band does the same as this next leg continues.

Meanwhile, Swedish power metal heroes Sabaton played a 12-song, 50-minute set to get Connecticut’s metal maniacs primed for Priest. They played material from seven albums, including their latest, 2022’s The War to End All Wars.

See both setlists and fan-filmed video of each band below.

The tour continues through May 22 and all the remaining dates can be viewed here .
