2016 Dodge Journey Review

Other Years:

U.S. News Rating

The 2016 Dodge Journey seems more affordable than most midsize SUVs, but a thirsty engine and a shaky expected reliability score cancel out much of its savings. Further dampening its appeal (and its standing in our rankings) are low safety ratings, an underpowered base engine, and a small cargo area.

2016 Dodge Journey Overview

Is the 2016 dodge journey a good used suv.

Unless you need the absolute cheapest 3-row vehicle you can find, you should look elsewhere. The 2016 Journey is laden with black marks, like a low safety rating, an anemic base engine, and lower-than-average reliability – though a few interior perks attempt to offset these issues.

Why You Can Trust Us

Our Dodge Journey review includes far more than just one person's opinion. We collected professional evaluations from more than 40 sources and combined them with concrete data like fuel economy estimates, safety features, and performance specs to help you make an informed buying decision.

At U.S. News & World Report, we rank the Best Jobs , Best Hospitals , and Best Colleges to guide readers through some of life’s most complicated decisions. We've been ranking and reviewing the Best Cars since 2007, backed by a team with more than 75 years of combined automotive experience. To keep favoritism out of the picture, we maintain a separate advertising team and decline expensive gifts and trips from car companies.

How Much is a 2016 Dodge Journey?

The Journey’s purchase price is its primary strength. Its average price tag of $17,900 is several thousand dollars less than most other used midsize SUVs. Overall, prices range from $14,000 to $22,000 (based on 2,200 listings for the 2016 Journey on our site). The exact price you’ll pay depends on the vehicle's mileage, condition, and trim level.

How Much Does the 2016 Dodge Journey Cost to Own?

The 2016 Journey's five-year costs for gas, repairs, maintenance, and insurance are $24,300. That’s similar to what you'll spend if you own a Hyundai Santa Fe , Kia Sorento , or Ford Flex .

Is It Better to Buy a Used or New Journey?

If you're set on buying a Journey, it's best to buy used. None of the faults that affect the 2016 Journey have been rectified for the 2018 model year. The new Journey still bears a history of subpar safety and reliability scores, uninspiring engines, and little cargo space. In fact, the only advantages of buying a 2018 Journey are its new car warranty and its standard third-row seats (only an option in the 2016 model). The fact that the MSRP for a base 2018 Journey ($22,495) is $4,600 more than the starting price of a 2016 Journey further solidifies the used model as the better buy.

Read about the new Dodge Journey »

You'll be hard-pressed to find a new SUV with more than five seats that costs less than a used Journey. That's because the Journey's price tag is one of the lowest among 3-row SUVs. One option is to step down to a smaller crossover SUV. These cost an extra $1,700 or so, but with the help of a cash back bonus or another new car deal , you might be able to get close to the 2016 Journey's average price. For example, the 2018 Honda HR-V , one of the least expensive 2-row SUVs you can buy new, will run you around $19,670 (before incentives).

How Reliable Is the 2016 Dodge Journey?

Reliability is one of the 2016 Journey’s red flags. J.D. Power gave it a score of 2.5 out of five. That’s a below-average score for the industry, and one of the worst ratings in its class.

2016 Dodge Journey Recalls

At the time of this writing, three recalls have been issued on the 2016 Journey. The largest recall addresses a problem with an engine sensor that may work intermittently, causing the engine to stall. Additional recalls relate to the transmission pump and a power steering hose. Not all of these recalls affect every 2016 Journey, but a quick VIN search can reveal which ones are relevant to the vehicle you are considering. Make sure that any applicable recalls are addressed before you buy.

Which Model Year of the Dodge Journey Is Best?

Dodge first launched the Journey for the 2009 model year, and the 2018 Journey is included in the same generation. The crossover underwent a major refresh for 2011, but little has been altered in recent years (beyond minor tweaks to the cosmetics and trim levels). Scores are also similar throughout the generation, though the 2014 model scored higher in reliability than any other Journey thus far. For this reason – and its considerably lower price – the 2014 Journey stands out as the best model year to buy.

Which Used Dodge Journey Is Right for Me?

The Dodge Journey offers a range of options for shoppers. There are five trims to pick from: SE, SXT, Crossroad, Crossroad Plus, and R/T. You can also choose between seating for five or seven, two different engines, and front- or all-wheel drive. You'll find one of the best values with the Dodge Journey SXT. It comes standard with third-row seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and aluminum wheels, and it's available with the V6 engine and AWD.

2016 Dodge Journey Safety

Score: 8.4/10.

The 2016 Journey's safety rating is below average for the class. It earned the lowest rating, Poor, in the small overlap front crash test (which mimics the corner of your car hitting an object) administered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The IIHS gave the Journey a Good rating for all other tests, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it four out of five stars overall, which is also below average for the class.

Additionally, the Journey doesn't come standard with any advanced safety features. A rearview camera is available, though many rivals offer one as standard. Some used Journeys may also come with rear parking sensors. In comparison, many competitors are available with advanced safety features that the Journey lacks completely, such as lane departure alert and automatic pre-collision braking.

2016 Dodge Journey Versus the Competition

Unless price is your sole consideration, other vehicles will serve you better in the long run. For example, compact SUV rivals like the Nissan Rogue and Ford Escape may technically be a class below the Journey, but they offer similar features for the money and are almost as spacious. Midsize rivals like the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe cost more, but they are larger and offer better performance.

Which Is Better: 2016 Dodge Journey or 2016 Dodge Durango?

It would be appropriate to label the Journey a Dodge Durango Lite. Both are categorized as midsize SUVs, with the Durango boasting a standard third-row seat, better crash test scores, and more powerful engines. You'll pay thousands of dollars more for these gains, though.

Which Is Better: 2016 Dodge Journey or 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander?

A Mitsubishi Outlander costs about as much as a Journey, but it pulls ahead of the Dodge in one key area: safety. The IIHS named it a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ (its highest safety designation), and its available safety technology includes lane departure warning and forward collision avoidance.

Which Is Better: 2016 Dodge Journey or 2016 Nissan Rogue?

Though it's a compact SUV , the Nissan Rogue has more cargo space than the Journey. It also gets better fuel economy, has higher safety ratings, and is within spitting distance of the Journey's base price. You’ll get a more polished vehicle all-around, proving that you don't have to scrimp on refinement to save money.

2016 Journey Performance

How does the 2016 dodge journey drive.

The Journey doesn't quite measure its zero-to-60-mph time with a sundial, but its four-cylinder engine delivers decidedly less power than most of its crossover rivals. It's paired with a four-speed automatic transmission (also trifling, as most competitors use at least a six-speed) that's slow from a stop. If you need to go anywhere quickly or want to take more than two people with you, the V6 engine is a worthwhile upgrade. While it's not the most impressive V6 in the class, the increase in performance is noticeable when climbing hills and passing on the highway, and your gas mileage won't be reduced by much. V6 models have a six-speed automatic.

This Dodge crossover's ride is quite nice, even over potholes and bumps. It leans heavily in corners, diminishing your confidence and comfort in higher-speed turns (on exit ramps, for instance). However, that's not unusual in these tall crossover vehicles, and the Journey's handling is still competent enough that it shouldn’t cause you undue stress.

Does the 2016 Dodge Journey Get Good Gas Mileage?

Unfortunately, the Journey's lackluster acceleration doesn't reward you with decent fuel economy: Its fuel rating of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway is mediocre for a crossover this size.

2016 Dodge Journey Towing Capacity

You can't tow as much with a Journey as you can with many other midsize SUVs. Journey models equipped with a four-cylinder engine can tow up to 1,000 pounds, while V6-equipped Journeys can tow 2,500 pounds.

2016 Journey Interior

How many people does the 2016 journey seat.

The Journey's best assets are inside, where you'll find high-quality materials and flexible storage features and seating. The first two rows are comfortable for five adults, and it can accommodate two more children or smaller adults in the available third row.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2016 Dodge Journey?

You can clip child safety seats into upper and lower anchors on any of the three seats in the second row. However, installing a car seat in the Journey using the LATCH hardware takes more time than you’d expect. The system’s faults earn it a Marginal rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for ease of use. Built-in booster seats are available for the second row, which is rare for the class.

2016 Dodge Journey Features

The Journey comes with a 4.3-inch touch screen, and an extra-large 8.4-inch touch screen is available in higher trims. The larger screen comes with Dodge's Uconnect infotainment system, which is one of the best setups on the market. It has an intuitive and smartphonelike layout, large text and icons, and a responsive screen. There are separate knobs for major settings like volume and temperature.

2016 Dodge Journey Dimensions

Dodge journey cargo space.

There are plenty of storage bins around the cabin and under the floor, which is especially convenient given that the Journey's cargo area is one of the smallest among similarly sized SUVs. Two-row models have 39.6 cubic feet of space behind the seats, and 3-row models have only 10.7. Folding down all the seats nets almost 68 cubic feet of space in total.

Dodge Journey Length and Weight

The Journey is a 16-foot-long SUV. It weighs between 3,818 and 4,238 pounds, depending on how it's equipped.

Where Was the 2016 Dodge Journey Built?

Dodge built the 2016 Journey at its factory in Toluca, Mexico.

Suburban Satisfaction

We shouldn’t be surprised to see so many examples of the Journey crossover, as Dodge sold more than 105,000 units in 2015 alone and nearly 94,000 in 2014. With prices ranging from $21,990 for a two-row, four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive model to nearly $40K for a full-boat, three-row, all-wheel-drive V-6 R/T, the Journey certainly casts a wide net over the mid-size crossover segment.

The Crossroad Plus trim (below only the R/T in the hierarchy) of our test car brings unique front and rear styling; “Platinum Chrome” roof rails, side sills, and front and rear fascia accents; 19-inch aluminum wheels; and some additional minor embellishments. Finished in basic black of varying textures and sheens, the interior provides utilitarian style rather than flash, featuring leather seating with mesh inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Chrysler’s ubiquitous and intuitive 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, a power driver’s seat, and a trick storage bin under the flip-up cushion of the front passenger seat, which makes it easy to keep phones and tablets out of sight but within easy reach—as long as no one is sitting there, of course.

.css-1rvrtxn{font-family:Gliko,Gliko-fallback,Gliko-roboto,Gliko-local,Georgia,Times,Serif;font-size:1.625rem;line-height:1.2;margin:0rem;-webkit-text-decoration:underline;text-decoration:underline;text-decoration-color:#DBCA8B;text-decoration-thickness:0.25rem;}@media(max-width: 48rem){.css-1rvrtxn{font-size:2.25rem;line-height:1.1;}}@media(min-width: 48rem){.css-1rvrtxn{font-size:2.625rem;line-height:1.1;}}@media(min-width: 64rem){.css-1rvrtxn{font-size:3rem;line-height:1.1;}}.css-1rvrtxn b,.css-1rvrtxn strong{font-family:inherit;font-weight:bold;}.css-1rvrtxn em,.css-1rvrtxn i{font-style:italic;font-family:inherit;} HIGHS: Competitive V-6, lots of feature content, reasonable price.

Our test example also included the $1250 Popular Equipment group (heated front seats and steering wheel, remote start, alarm); the $1295 Navigation and Backup group (navigation, backup camera, park assist, and the usual collection of SiriusXM travel and traffic services); and finally, $225 built-in rear child booster seats that make lugging around those grime-grabbing portable plastic boosters a thing of the past. And the pricing is very competitive among three-row crossovers; our nearly loaded $34,660 Journey is thousands cheaper than, say, a no-options Chevrolet Traverse LT AWD, which goes for $36,900.

So it’s no wonder Dodge advertises the Journey as the “most affordable three-row V-6 AWD crossover.” It is not, however, the roomiest. Encouraged by the easy use and functionality of the aforementioned second-row booster seats, we figured the time was right to let the kiddies populate the third row, and that’s where things hit a snag. Despite being equipped with the necessary articulation to allow the second row to—in theory—move out of the way, it’s still a painfully tight squeeze through the gap into the third row. Luckily, the children in our test group took glee in simply flinging themselves over the second-row seatbacks to get to the third row. It’s worth mentioning that although the front seats offer Barcalounger levels of comfort, the second row is tight for grain-fed adults. Frankly, most of the Journey’s competitors offer better second- and third-row accommodations.

Motor vehicle, Mode of transport, Steering part, Vehicle, Steering wheel, Automotive mirror, Vehicle audio, Center console, White, Car seat,

Comfortably Numb

Dynamically speaking, driving the Journey is akin to piloting a rolling sensory-deprivation chamber. The steering, brakes, and other controls are vague and feel disconnected, even compared with uninvolving three-row competitors such as the Toyota Highlander . And vehicles such as the Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Grand Cherokee offer the kind of off-road capability that would leave the Journey spinning its wheels. But the Journey will work among those for whom the weight of day-to-day life has long supplanted any need to contemplate the subtle intricacies of chassis refinement or rock-crawling capabilities.

Despite its indifferent controls, the Journey is at least in the hunt when it comes to quantifying its ability to go, stop, and turn. Equipped with the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and all-wheel drive, our test car required 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph and 16.1 to complete the quarter-mile, clocking within several tenths of the numbers posted by the 2013 Dodge Journey V-6 we tested earlier . With 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, the corporate V-6 pulls competitively, but the engine feels like it doesn’t really wake up until about 3500 rpm, and the six-speed automatic is lackadaisical. Slow to respond whether shifted manually or left to its own devices, the gearbox in our test car repeatedly exhibited a clumsy two-three upshift that probably added a few tenths to the acceleration times.

LOWS: Fussy transmission, tight second- and third-row seating, drinks gas like a larger rig.

The stop from 70 mph consumed a respectable 177 feet, and the 225/55R-19 Kumho Solus KH16 tires held on long enough to post 0.76 g of grip on our 300-foot skidpad. These numbers fall reasonably close to those produced by the mid-size crossover set, such as the two-row Nissan Murano (178 feet, 0.78 g) and the three-row Toyota Highlander (186 feet, 0.80 g). So while the Journey is capable of keeping the pack in sight when pressed, it doesn’t really enjoy it. Finally, we were disappointed with the 17 mpg overall that our Journey returned. To compare apples to bigger apples, that’s the same mileage figure we achieved in our test of its big brother, the Dodge Durango with the 360-hp Hemi V-8 . If fuel efficiency is your goal, there are thriftier ways to ride than a Journey with the V-6 engine.

It’s been said that life is a journey, not a destination. Dodge Journey owners, on the other hand, are advised to focus on the destination part, as there are numerous competitors that make for more compelling travel partners.

The 2016 dodge journey is a strong value among crossover suvs, but it misses the mark for the tech-savvy and safety-conscious..

Can't decide between an SUV and a minivan? The 2016 Dodge Journey splits that difference better than perhaps any other model on the market. Although it's been surprisingly overlooked by shoppers, the Journey is a solid family pick, and one of the least-expensive ways to get a third-row seat.

The Journey continues to sell on value and pricing, at a time when it's been carried over without serious change for a number of years. It's dimensionally larger than most of the compact crossovers it's shopped against—meaning that if space is important, you're getting more vehicle for the money.

Larger families may find it suits their needs without the thirst for fuel and sheer on-the-road bulk of larger seven-seat mid-size crossovers like the Toyota Highlander or the much longer Nissan Pathfinder. On the other hand, the Journey is missing some of the active-safety items that some families might not be keeping in mind when shopping.

Dodge has shaken off the same-as-the-other-guy sheet metal that clothes most crossovers, giving the Journey lines that are refreshingly different, even if they're no longer necessarily fresh. Likewise, the look inside is smooth, swoopy, and simple. While there's less of the warm, organic, and upscale feel here that's graced revamps to the Durango, Charger, and even Dart, it's all tasteful, with nice materials and trims.

At the base level, in the 2016 Journey, you get a 2.4-liter inline-4 good for 177 horsepower. It is mated exclusively to an aging 4-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Unless you're going to leave the Journey empty most of the time, it's going to feel strained, and we recommend you go for one of the models with the 3.6-liter V-6. It makes 283 hp, and upgrades to a 6-speed automatic to either the front or all four wheels. There it feels modern, quieter, and authoritative in its acceleration and general responsiveness.

Ride quality remains a strong point, with the proper damping and roll control for a family vehicle, but the rather quick steering ratio feels a little out of place.

People and cargo really fit well in the 2016 Dodge Journey, too, and there are lots of smaller spaces for personal items, toys, and accessories. The rear seat folds fully flat, and under the rearward portion of the cargo floor there’s a huge space vast enough for a couple of laptop bags. The front seats are what we’d best describe as "American-sized"—think wider than most.

Second-row accommodations are among the best you’ll find in any vehicle this size, and the seats are contoured to fit adults; the seat back is adjustable for rake, and the whole bench slides fore and aft a few inches, so it’s easy to get comfortable back there.

In federal crash tests, the NHTSA gives the Journey four stars overall. The IIHS gives it mostly "Good" scores, save for a "Poor" rating in the small-overlap crash test.

Dodge has rejiggered the Journey's trim levels and equipment somewhat for 2016, dropping the former Limited model, as well as the former entry model, and offering it instead in SE, SXT, Crossroad, Crossroad Plus, and R/T models.

Even in the base SE model you get power windows, locks and mirrors; air conditioning; cruise control; push-button start; a cooled glove box; a telescoping steering wheel; and an AM/FM/CD player. Bluetooth and a rearview camera system are key omissions on the base model—actually much of the lineup—but they are available in lower models as an option.

Crossroad models get platinum chrome accents and Hyper Black alloy wheels, while Crossroad Plus models add sport mesh seats, upgraded 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment, and other upgrades. The infotainment system here, with its available Garmin navigation functionality, remains one of the better systems in this class. Sirius Satellite Radio and TravelLink features are available, along with a premium 368-watt sound system.

The base 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic transmission earn an EPA-rated 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. V-6 front-wheel-drive models do 17/25/19 mpg, while the all-wheel-drive version (V-6 only) manages 16/24/19 mpg, according to the EPA.

2016 Dodge Journey Styling

The cabin of the 2016 dodge journey is handsome, and its shape is dated yet still refreshingly different..

The 2016 Dodge Journey at best, exemplifies the middle ground between a wagon and SUV; but at worst, it's a wallflower, a completely anonymous vehicle that doesn't manage anything more interesting than the vehicles it's trying not to be.

The Journey definitely has its own look in the crossover space—one that blends some minivan practicality and features into a shape that some will find far more more pleasing to the eyes than a minivan.

That said, the minivans of the current generation have actually moved to more distinctive places, while crossover design seems to have been treading water. And the exterior of the Journey is rather slab-sided, with chiseled sheet metal and flared wheelwells and square shoulders, along with some degree of sheet metal creasing. Is it refreshing and different in an era of curvaceous crossovers, or is it conservative and anonymous? As this model ages, it seems to be more the latter to our eyes, a relic of another era that's been carried over mostly unchanged.

The look of the Journey, inside, is smooth and swoopy, but it missed out on the over-the-top, warm-and-organic look that graces other current Dodge products like the Durango, Charger, and even Dart.

But there's actually plenty to love in the simple layout, which has large dials and knobs framed by high-quality materials. Although the interior materials are dark, there's enough well-placed brightwork to break it up and also give it a slightly more upscale feel.

Open the Journey's door, and a bolt of metallic trim directs you quickly across a more softly sculpted dash. The contoured center stack gets mixed in with round cut-tube gauges and a blocky steering wheel, and it all goes together quite well, with a large infotainment screen at center plus no-fuss climate controls that ride sidesaddle on that middle strip of bright trim. Again, it's definitely not up to the times with other Dodge interiors, but it's attractive on its own merits.

2016 Dodge Journey Performance

Go with the v-6 versions of the journey and pass on the inline-4; otherwise this crossover is merely average on performance..

The 2016 Dodge Journey offers three different powertrain combinations: an inline-4 with front-wheel drive, or a V-6 with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. And we think that if you go with either of the V-6 versions, you'll end up with a vehicle that's pleasant-driving and responsive.

The Journey isn't the right option for those looking for top-shelf fuel economy and responsiveness from a 4-cylinder engine. A rough, 173-horsepower 2.4-liter inline-4 is the standard engine, and it comes with a 4-speed automatic that's disappointing in virtually every way possible.

The lineup of Journey models has been revamped for 2016, and now the V-6 is optional on SXT, Crossroad, and Crossroad Plus models but standard on R/T models as well as all models with all-wheel drive.

The 3.6-liter "Pentastar" V-6 makes 283 hp and works well with the 6-speed automatic when you're really pushing the Journey; but we've experienced some shuddering from the transmission in lower-speed stop-and-go driving. It's the one you should go with.

The Journey's handling is reasonably responsive. Its suspension loads and unloads confidently, like that of a lower and leaner vehicle, and there's none of the excessive bounding and wallowing when you hit a bump mid-corner. The ride quality remains a strong point, with the proper damping and roll control for a family vehicle.

While the hydraulic-assist steering system gets it right with weighting, the rather quick steering ratio feels a little out of place in a vehicle this size, and with this purpose.

2016 Dodge Journey Comfort & Quality

Third-row accommodations are small, but the 2016 journey remains one of the lowest-priced vehicles to offer them..

If you think that the 2016 Dodge Journey looks like utility vehicle with lots of minivan influences, you're on the right track; many lessons learned in the minivan game—from Chrysler and Dodge, who have been some of the leaders in it all along—have been passed along to the Journey.

While the Journey's layout seems to be focused around families, parents will also find a lot to like inside. Seating arrangements are smart, and there are plenty of cubbies and places to stash things. For people, cargo, or a combination of things, the Journey can almost certainly accommodate what you need.

A third-row seat is optional on the Journey, and it's quite useful here, in a size class where a lot of vehicles only offer space for five. Here the third row has reasonable space for all but larger adults; kids will be just fine back there, although it's not as spacious as the third row in minivans.

Back seats are contoured to fit adults (perhaps three kids, but two adults), while accommodations back there are among the best you’ll find in any vehicle this size. The second-row seatback is adjustable for rake, and the whole bench slides fore and aft a few inches, so it’s easy to get comfortable back there—and that aids access to the third row.

Folding the seats forward for cargo takes an extra step—you slide the middle portion of the outboard cushions up and forward first—but the reward is that you get a lower, flatter load floor, like minivans offer, as well as better contouring for the seats.

The cargo hold specs out at a swell 37 cubic feet behind the second row, and a tight 10.7 cubic feet behind the raised (optional) third-row seat. Flip everything down behind the front seats, and there's 67.6 cubic feet of space—the sort of space you could use for furniture-hauling or major weekend projects.

There are also many thoughtful solutions for storing smaller odds and ends, and keeping some of them out of sight. For instance, the cushion of the passenger seat flips up to reveal a bin underneath, while below the rearward portion of the cargo floor there’s a huge space vast enough for a couple of laptop bags.

2016 Dodge Journey Safety

The dodge journey does ok in safety, but it doesn't have enough to give families absolute confidence..

The 2016 Dodge Journey is built on a now-aging structure that was conceived during another era at Chrysler, when the automaker had partnered with Mitsubishi; so it's somewhat related to the previous generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander.

With that in mind, the Journey is a relatively safe vehicle; although if this is your primary family vehicle you might apply higher standards—and the Journey doesn't quite manage the best ratings or the latest active-safety lifesavers.

In federal crash tests, the NHTSA gives the Journey four stars for frontal crash and rollover protection. That translates to a four-star overall rating with front-wheel drive or a five-star rating with all-wheel drive (a computational difference, we suspect). Its side rating is an excellent five stars.

The 2016 Journey, in IIHS testing, earns a top "Good" for moderate-overlap front crash, side crash, roof strength, and seats and head restraints. But the IIHS gives it a "Poor" rating in the small overlap frontal test, and it was bad enough for the IIHS to call it out as particularly poor.

The Journey's standard-feature set is good, although it's omitting modern front crash prevention completely. Every Journey comes standard with dual front, side, and curtain airbags; stability and traction control; active head restraints; and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock control. Integrated child booster seats are also offered for the second row.

Considering this is a family vehicle, it's also rather surprising that the rearview camera and parking sensors remain optional—and then only on top trim levels—because outward visibility in this high-shouldered vehicle can be challenging in parking lots and driveways.

2016 dodge journey features, the 2016 dodge journey still has one of the better infotainment systems in its class..

Dodge has streamlined the number of ways the Journey is offered for 2016, whittling it down to five models: SE, SXT, Crossroad, Crossroad Plus, and R/T trim levels. Last year's high-value, bargain-basement American Value Package entry trim is gone this year.

At the base level, the Dodge Journey includes power windows, locks and mirrors; air conditioning; cruise control; 17-inch wheels; keyless ignition; a cooled glove box; a telescoping steering wheel; and an AM/FM/CD player, window tinting, and roof rails.

Bluetooth isn't included on the base SE or the SXT; rather, it's part of a Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth Group. And SE, SXT, and Crossroad models are saddled with smaller 4.3-inch Uconnect screens for audio (although they do include USB and an aux-in port). Only top Crossroad Plus and SXT models get a standard 8.4-inch Uconnect system, with a Uconnect navigation system available.

Seven-passenger seating is also available on the SE and standard on all other models. But busy families may also want to note that the rear-seat entertainment system is only an option on the Crossroad Plus and R/T models.

SXT models upgrade to fog lamps, LED tail lamps, and various appearance additions. The Crossroad model is also mostly appearance, with 19-inch wheels, platinum exterior accents, and leather seats with mesh inserts.

At the Crossroad Plus level, that's where the equipment really kicks up, with the larger infotainment screens, leather upholstery, and 19-inch wheels. It's also where you can opt, through various packages, for things like a sunroof, upgraded sport mesh seats, and heated front seats. It also includes a power driver's seat (but not a power passenger seat).

At the top R/T level you add appearance upgrades like red accent stitching, and satin-carbon aluminum wheels. A six-speaker, 368-watt premium audio system is included in the R/T, but optional in the Crossroad Plus.

2016 Dodge Journey Fuel Economy

Four-cylinder versions of the journey aren't worth getting for their superior ratings, as they don't pay off in the real world..

We'd call the gas mileage of the 2016 Dodge Journey acceptable, but nothing more.

You won't find the latest 8- or 9-speed automatics here, or engine stop-start, or any kind of hybrid system on offer. The base inline-4 doesn't deliver on its EPA numbers in real-world driving, from what we've found, while the V-6 accelerates well while pretty much meeting its numbers.

The base inline-4 and 4-speed automatic transmission earn an EPA-rated 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. V-6 front-wheel-drive models do 17/25/19 mpg, while the all-wheel-drive version (V-6 only) manages 16/24/19 mpg, according to the EPA.

Yet in a V-6 model, including a mix of freeway driving, family-hauling, and suburban side trips, we averaged 24 mpg. That's not far from what we've seen in 4-cylinder crossovers this size in that kind of driving.

Hyundai recall: Over 180,000 Elantra vehicles recalled for trunk latch issue

journey car 2016

Hyundai Motor America is recalling over 180,000 vehicles after an issue with a trunk latch is preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside, causing a safety issue, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to the recall notice, Hyundai is recalling certain 2015-2016 Elantra vehicles. The trunk latch inside those vehicles may have become damaged and might prevent the opening of the trunk from the inside. Because of this issue, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard .

Around 186,588 2015-2016 Hyundai Elantra vehicles are potentially included in this recall.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 15. Dealers will replace the trunk latch base sub-assembly free of charge, according to the recall notice.

Earlier this week, it was announced that some Hyunadi and Kia owners who have had their vehicles stolen will be able to receive a piece of a $145 million settlement , thanks to a class action lawsuit.

Vehicle recalls, food recalls and more: Check out USA TODAY's recall database here.

How to contact Hyundai for the recall

Owners of the affected Hyundai Elantra vehicles can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 256.

You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov .

N.J. man dies in car crash on Route 80

A 38-year-old man from Union County died early Saturday morning in a fatal car crash on Interstate 80 in Bergen County, officials said.

Richard Bahamonte, of Hillside, suffered fatal injuries as a passenger in the crash, said State Police Trooper Troy McNair.

Troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident at 3:08 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 80, near milepost 68 in Teaneck, McNair said.

A preliminary investigation showed a Honda passenger vehicle was traveling on the eastbound side when the driver, a 40-year-old male from Hasbrouck Heights, “lost directional control, ran off the roadway to the right, and subsequently struck the concrete barrier,” McNair said.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, the trooper said.

The accident remains under investigation, officials said. Additional information about the crash was not available Saturday morning.

Great journey, wanted longer.

My wife and I travelled on the Grand from Moscow to St.Petersburg on a Tuesday night. We travelled in grand deluxe class. The compartment was a good size with good width and comfy beds. The ensuite bathroom facilities were excellent with a fantastic shower and a toilet that was also a bidet and had a heated seat! All toiletries were provided including robes and slippers. Traveling this class you also get an evening meal in the restaurant included but, as the train does not leave until 23.40 with boarding from 23.15, this is really too late to be worthwhile. Breakfast was included and brought to the compartment by the very helpful attendant. Excellent quality food which included Eggs Benedict and a Ham and cheese omelette, fresh orange juice, tea and coffee. Arrived at St.Petersburg at 08.30 wishing we could have had longer on board to really enjoy the experience.

I enjoyed this late night trip back in History from the image of the train arriving at our platform in all the grandeur of yester a year, to the very comfortable beds and our personal cabin concierge. The food could have been a little bit more up market not as good as the Day Time Sapsan 2nd Class but not far off. I really appreciated the special touch of the very Russian Glass Mugs with Iron Laced Holder and my morning omelette was tasty just a little cool. All in all a great experience I now have to convince my husband to join me on the full Beijing to Moscow Train Trip (he is a light sleeper and didn't appreciate the lullaby sound of the clicketty clack of the train tracks). Must remember to put in a set of ear plugs for him next trip.

Instead of spending a night at hotel, its worth taking the journey through this train to St Petersburg. It starts from Leningradsky station which is not what you'll see usually printed on your tickets, but its Leningradsky. Its well connected by the Moscow metro but the trick is to find the train terminal outside the metro. I had to walk around a couple of times before i found the entrance. The service was amazing and the cabins well presented. It has a shower, two TVs, two beds and they serve dinner and breakfast. The ticket includes a drop off to a hotel or a destination of choice in St Petersburg, so as you disembark, a taxi is waiting for you.

This was my first trip on an overnight train. I knew I would be sharing my cabin with someone I had never met before, and I was unsure of how this experience would be. I felt very comfortable once I got onto the train. The staff on the train was very friendly and helped me find my cabin and locate my bed. I felt very safe and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, and I was happy to arrive in St Petersburg in the morning so I did not miss any day time on my vacation. The breakfast was very nice. We arrived on time. I would take this train again.

As a veteran of a number of Soviet and Russian train rides back in the day, Grand Express was a truly a change for the better and a great experience for me and the whole family. I emailed and spoke with Grand Express several times as I was having a trouble getting my credit card to go through on the website when ordering tickets from the US. Each time I was greeted by a friendly representative who showed a personal interest in resolving my issues. Emails were likewise answere promptly. In the end I reserved the tickets online, and as advised by Grand Express paid for them at a Euroset' retail location in Moscow. All did not work to plan when I showed up at Euroset', but I got Grand Express on the phone and both parties worked it out for me within a few minutes. We left our luggage at the Leningrad train station for the day at 190 rubles a bag and picked it up an hour or so before our departure at 11:40 pm. The train arrived on time and we were greeted by a friendly conductor for our car. She showed us how to stow our luggage in the cabin - no small feet as we had bags for four people for two weeks but somehow it all fit. Grand Express has several levels of single and double occupancy cabins some with their own shower and toilet. My wife and I were traveling with our two daughters so opted for economy so we could all fit in the same cabin. Our conductor took our breakfast order soon after we settled in and breakfast arrived promptly the next morning. The common bathroom for the car was clean and functioning. Clean linens and towels for each of the bunks. We were traveling on a hot August night and were very thankful after the train got started so they could turn on the air conditioning. I highly recommend Grand Express.

We (a family with a child) took a trip from Moscow to STP. The Grand Express was a perfect start to our exploration of STP. I booked tickets on their website and when I realized a week later that I got the direction wrong (totally my fault), it was easy to cancel the old tickets and get the new ones for a minimal fee. The journey started with being greeted by smiling staff who helped us settle in our deluxe compartment. The compartment had so many clever accoutrements and thoughtful freebies (like a full shaving set and even a few pairs of slippers). There were free snacks and fruits and later, we were brought the most delicious tea served in glasses with traditional metal holders--very reminiscent of my childhood. The lower berth in our compartment converted into a full size bed and it was comfortable to sleep there with my 9 year old. The upper berth is also very wide and great for one person (as you will see, my son loved "chilling" on it). We were also offered many choices for a plentiful breakfast the next morning. I ordered MILLET WITH MILK and it was probably the best one I had since I was a child, truly gourmet quality! We appreciated arriving to STP an hour later than the Red Arrow train, giving us a solid night's sleep and some time to enjoy the tasty breakfast. The car transfer was also included in the price. Overall, this trip was a lovely, nostalgic experience. Grand Express enhanced all the beautiful features of the overnight train ride that I remembered from childhood and made them luxurious, comfortable, romantic and exciting for a very modest price. I believe a trip on the Grand Express is a must for tourists and the non-rushed locals will undoubtedly enjoy it as well.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
