If you are a national of the following countries, you benefit from a reduced Schengen visa fee of 35 EUR:

Albania, Armenia (no fee for children under 12 years of age), Azerbaijan (no fee for children under 12 years of age), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia (no fee for children under 12 years of age), North Macedonia, Moldova (no fee for applicants below18 years of age), Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine.

Whether or not you can benefit from a fee exemption can only be determined when your visa application is submitted.

Additional fees apply for the external Service provider BLS International.

National visas

Adults: 75 EUR Children under the age of 18: 37.50 EUR Certain categories of applicants are exempt from national visa fees, such as:

• Spouses of German nationals
• Members of diplomatic missions, consular representations and international organizations based in Germany, their spouses and children under the age of 25
• Foreigners who receive a scholarship from public funds for their stay in Germany as well as their spouses or life partners and minor children, if they are included in the sponsorship
• In individual cases, to safeguard cultural, foreign policy, development policy or other significant public interests or for humanitarian reasons
• other fees: Please allow for an additional fee of up to 35 USD (Bermuda 60 USD, The Bahamas 65 USD) if you want us to mail your passport back. An additional fee may also be charged if copies of the supporting documents have to be made by the German Mission.

Do US citizens need visa for Germany?

No . US citizens do not need a visa to enter the Federal Republic of Germany when:

The stay does not exceed 90 days (within a period of 180 days), and

The visit is for tourism purposes only .

Other than the two cases mentioned above, US citizens must apply for a German Schengen visa to enter Germany.

Do US Green Card holders need a German visa?

Yes. All US Green Card holders whose nationality is not from the non-exempt visa countries must apply for a German visa from the USA before traveling. You must apply for the visa prior to your travel at the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Germany.

Germany visa requirements for US Green Card holders

When applying for a Germany visa from the USA, ensure you have the following documents:

Visa application form and the declaration: You must submit original copies of a fully completed and signed visa application form and the Declaration of Accuracy .

Passport-size photograph: A recent biometric passport photo as per the Germany visa requirements.

Valid passport: The original (plus a signed copy) passport whose validity must exceed the duration of the intended stay in Germany by at least 3 months. It must contain at least 2 blank pages and must have been issued within the past 10 years.

Valid US Green Card: The original (plus a signed copy) of the US Green Card or any other valid US resident visa.

Proof of address: A copy of the proof of address, e.g., valid driver's license, utility bill, lease.

Travel ticket: Confirmed flight (roundtrip)/travel reservations with the applicant’s name.

Proof of travel health insurance: A copy of the travel health insurance stating the applicant's name, coverage of at least 30,000 EUR for medical expenses and repatriation, and to be valid for the entire Schengen area. It should also be valid for the entire stay in the Schengen area, and the insurance has to be issued either in the US or Germany.

Letter of employer: You will need the original and the signed copy of the letter of employer/university/school, if applicable, stating the duration of recruitment, status, income, and leave confirmation.

Proof of stay in Germany: Copy of confirmed hotel reservations stating name, address, and telephone of the hotel, including confirmation number as well as the name of the guest.

Proof of sustenance: The original and signed copy of the proof of adequate financial means. This may be your bank statements for the last three months stating your name and address. Travel Money Cards or cash as proof of sufficient funds is not accepted.

The Germany visa application is fully offline . You must complete the application form and submit it with supporting documents in person at the nearest Germany (BLS) Visa Application Centre .
