Guide to Gay Friendly Hotels in Zakopane Poland (2024 Updated)

All up this means the  Polish LGBTQ+ scene is fairly discrete. Warsaw and Kraków are the best places to find bars, clubs and  gay friendly hotels Zakopane, the main ski destination in Poland.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)  people in  Poland  face legal challenges not faced by non-LGBT residents. According to  ILGA-Europe ‘s 2020 report, the status of LGBTQ rights in Poland is the worst among  European Union  countries.

Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Poland.

Zakopane is a resort town in southern Poland, at the base of the Tatras Mountains. It’s a popular departure point for winter sports and summertime mountain climbing and hiking. Kasprowy Wierch and Gubałówka, reachable by cable car and funicular, are nearby ski destinations offering sweeping mountain views . The town is also known for its turn-of-the-20th-century wooden chalets, symbols of Zakopane-style architecture.

1. Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences 4* – Gay Friendly Hotels Zakopane

Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences

Set in Zakopane, 400 m from Zakopane Aqua Park, Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences offers accommodation with a restaurant, private parking, a fitness centre and a bar. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk, room service and free WiFi. The hotel features an indoor pool, hot tub and an ATM.

The units come with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a kettle, a shower, a hairdryer and a desk. At the hotel every room includes a wardrobe and a private bathroom.

A buffet breakfast is available every morning at Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences.

The accommodation offers a sauna. Guests at Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences will be able to enjoy activities in and around Zakopane, like skiing and cycling.

Spacious room with multiple amenities (hair dryer, cosmetics, coffee maker and kettle, great selection of coffees and teas) and most importantly a balcony with gorgeous view! The hotel is located approximately 10 mins walk away from Krupówki and bus/train station, on a quiet side street.

Breakfast is served from 7:30 am which might be too late for those leaving for a hike, but the hotel has an option to order an earlier to-go breakfast. Good selection of fruit/warm breakfast options, a small corner with local products. Options served can get a bit monotonous after a while.

Spa zone (saunas, hot tub, swimming pool) satisfactory, but can get crowded easily. Great saunas zone with a cold water tub in the middle.

The hotel is stylish, spacious and nicely furnished. They have a pool area which was a great way to escape the heat of the day. We have also really enjoyed the huge variety of food at the breakfast buffet.

The spa and swimming area is spectacular. The rooms are great size and are comfortable.

Recently launched private SPA zone is certainly one of the highlights of this place. The rooms are clean, spacious and nicely furnished. Really comfy!

The location – a plus, yet, I would put a big question mark on the whole of Zakopane. The issues to point out: breakfast – the capacity of the restaurant not adequate to holiday peak (but the service tried to react and resolve as they – a fair effort).

How much does a room costs at Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences  ?

Prices start 124 $/night for Standard Room . The Studio with Kitchenette is  133 $/room per night with breakfast included – if coming on a honeymoon this is the perfect choice for gay couples.

The perfect getaway for couples who are looking for a private and quiet place, the Studios are designed with a terrace, loggia or balcony, and come with complimentary access to all hotel facilities, including the spa and gym. They come with a fully equipped kitchenette. As it is a long stay apartment the cleaning service is provided every 3rd day.

2. Mercure Kasprowy Zakopane 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Zakopane

Mercure Kasprowy Zakopane

Located in the popular Tatra Mountain resort of Zakopane, Mercure Kasprowy offers rooms with satellite TV, a minibar, a refrigerator and an internet connection .

The rooms of the Kasprowy all feature a classic interior design. All have a picturesque view of the area and a private bathroom. Some come with a balcony offering a view of the mountains.

The hotel acts as a ski pass vendor and provides ski storage facilities. They can also play a game of tennis or table tennis.

Mercure Kasprowy Zakopane is a 3 hotel situated on the picturesque Polana Szymoszkowa glade, close to a hot spring pool and a ski slope (open only during ski season). The hotel prides itself on the highest quality services and most beautiful views of the Tatra Mountains.Mercure Zakopane Kasprowy offers 288 rooms.

An excellent highly luxurious hotel ideal for the skier and hiker alike. The amenities, staff, food and service are top class. It has an excellent Spa and restaurant. The hotel has had a full refurbishment over the last few years and is now has a very homely feel to it with carpeted reception area, bar and restaurant. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The ski hire in the basement is very good and one strolls out to the ski lift about 50 away.

The panoramic view of the town of Zakopane and the  Tatras  from the rooms, restaurants, and sun deck is spectacular. I don’t know how you could beat it. On a clear day, you can just make out the iron cross on top of Giewont  mountain .

The hotel is located outside of the city . You have three options to get into town. The walk is 20 to 30 minutes depending on your destination and the path is well maintained the entire route. We were there in September so the weather was cooperative for a walk. The hotel has a shuttle to several destinations in town . They charge a small fee for the shuttle. I think it should be free, but the hotel disagrees and, well, they charge a fee. A taxi from most locations is about 25 zl. Not being inside the city was fine, I own enough t-shirts and refrigerator magnets. Apparently not everyone does however, as you can’t swing a cat in the city without hitting a souvenir shop.

The interior of the hotel itself is beautiful. The maintenance and cleanliness is top notch. The décor of the hotel uses a snowflake motif. You do not notice this immediately because it is cleverly and artfully incorporated. The attention to detail is impressive. Throughout the hotel, the design of the walls, furniture, the bar, the swimming pool, and even the lattice work of the beams either boldly or subtly find a way to maintain this cohesive theme.

The restaurants and lobby bar have high quality food at reasonable prices. After walking to Morskie Oko, we were desperate to not walk another step. The convenience and attentive service at the hotel was a pleasant alternative to going into Zakopane for a meal.

The hotel is located outside central Zakopane but provides regular transport to the town. The rooms are clean, comfortable, fitted with modern amenities, and a lot of them with a view of the  Tatra   Mountains . The bathrooms are large and clean. Breakfast buffet choice is amazing, dinner menu changes daily. The restaurant serves some amazing dishes. The staff is cheerful, friendly and very helpful.

The rooms are ok. Nice, clean and  comfortable , there’s a balcony, very good tv, fridge, free Internet which usually works very good (this time I couldn’t get it to work on my cell phone though). There is a thing I don’t like about them. That is that the electricity sockets are not next to the  beds , but on another side of the room, next to the table. But perhaps it’s just me that likes to use laptop while resting on  bed .

What I like about the hotel is the breakfast, which costs 60 złoty, but is fully worth it. It’s very varied and plenty. You can choose from a number of juices, cereals, fruit, breads, cheeses, pickles, warm stuff such as scrambled eggs etc. The best thing about the hotel.

3. Grand Nosalowy Dwór 4* – LGBT Friendly Hotels Zakopane

Grand Nosalowy Dwór

Grand Nosalowy Dwór is located at the foot of the Nosal Mountain in Zakopane. It features a recreational centre and apartments and rooms with flat-screen cable TVs and free Wi-Fi.

The Nosalowy Dwór’s bright rooms and apartments feature wooden furniture in warm colours, which includes a work desk. All rooms are heated, and have a minibar, refrigerator and safety deposit box.

Guests can get a workout at the Grand Nosalowy’s fitness centre, go for a swim in the indoor swimming pool or play a game of billiards. A sauna and steam bath are also at their disposal.

The guest accommodation also organises a skiing school and offers a ski storage service. The nearest ski lift on the Nosal Mountain is only 140 m away. Wielka Krokiew Ski Jumping Venue is within 1.5 km.

The on-site restaurant, Grand, offers a selection of Polish and worldwide dishes, as well as original dishes prepared by the chef. The Sport Bar Lobby offers drinks and warm beverages. The Panoramika Café features scenic views of the area.

Resort Nosalowy Dwór is situated at the foot of the Nosal mountain in one of the quiet parts of Zakopane. It offers its guests 117 luxurious rooms and apartments as well as the largest Spa & Recreational Centre in the region, a ballroom and a well-equipped Conference Centre with a multipurpose hall with a 500 person capacity.

All this is supplemented by a wide offer of culinary and bonding events. The Hotel benefits from the immediate vicinity of the Nosal Ski Centre with 5 ski lifts. Its picturesque surroundings enable hiking in the summer and skiing during the winter season.

Guests from this hotel have access to the Rezydenja Nosalowy Dwor where we were staying, through the glass air bridge which proves handy especially in winter with the snow outside.

We would come here daily to use facilities and services that the two hotels share.

During my visits I came across professional staff and enjoyed personalized service.

Its inspiring interior creates a feeling of luxury in a relaxing atmosphere.

Guests have unlimited access to the pools, but expect them to be crowded especially during weekends and  high   season  since guests from both hotels share the same area.

With so many visitors the pools seem not to be sufficient, but this could be the reason why next door there is another hotel under construction, the Rezydencja Nosalowy Dwór II which I judge will offer similar facilities not to mention better!

Personally I preferred being out hiking the time I was here, so I cannot comment better on the pools since I never used any of the facilities.

The La Perla SPA, is a popular chain of prestigious beauty clinics offering services and treatments of  high  quality in this hotel. If you happen to be there drop buy and pay a visit. Treatments vary and of course the price, but definitely it pays to have one at least therapy taking advantage of the professional hands of the Spa team.

Up on the first level, the Mare Monti restaurant prides for is Excellent Cuisine. The interior might lack a bit of character but in all, from my own experience as a Food Critic regarding the cuisine I was left speechless with the  high  quality ingredients used, the mouthwatering dishes I tried, the rich buffer variety I came across and the great service.

Highly recommended for year-round holidays.

Tips for Gay and Lesbian Travelers in Poland

Poland is not particularly gay-friendly, and the country's center-right government has recently spoken out against granting homosexuals legal rights or even discussing homosexuality in the public schools. That said, gays and lesbians visiting Poland are not likely to encounter overt discrimination or have trouble booking rooms. There are active gay populations in both Warsaw and Kraków, and several gay-friendly bars and clubs. GayGuide.net (http://warsaw.gayguide.net) publishes a useful list of gay clubs in the capital.

LGBT Rights In Poland: Everything You Should Know Before You Visit! 🇵🇱

Cecilia Miller is a lesbian love warrior and educator fighting for queer justice and ensuring every shade of the rainbow shines bright & bold!

LGBT rights in Poland have been a topic of growing interest and discussion in recent years, especially with the rise of large pride parades and increased visibility of the LGBTQ community within the country. However, it is essential to recognize that the legal status of LGBTQ individuals in Poland varies, with homosexuality being legal but same-sex marriage not recognized.

For both local residents and tourists, the landscape of LGBT rights in Poland can be quite complex to navigate. As the situation can change rapidly, it is crucial to stay informed on current issues and seek advice from reliable sources before traveling. Even though there have been significant strides in LGBTQ rights, it is always essential to be vigilant and cautious of potential issues that may arise.

Several LGBT advocacy groups, such as Lambda Warsaw and Campaign Against Homophobia , are actively advocating for LGBTQ rights within Poland. Connecting with these organizations and staying informed on their efforts can help ensure that both residents and visitors are knowledgeable about the current state of LGBT rights and can take the necessary steps to protect themselves if necessary.

Remember to always remain cautious and vigilant, as situations can change, and there are always potential risks involved in any country.

History Of LGBT Rights In Poland

LGBT rights in Poland have seen certain progress over the years. Homosexual activity has been legal since 1932, when Poland introduced an equal age of consent for both homosexual and heterosexual individuals at 15. However, it should be noted that the country still ranks low in Europe in terms of equality and non-discrimination for the LGBT community.

In the 21st century, Gay Poland has experienced an increase in LGBT visibility, especially during public events such as pride parades. This visibility, on the one hand, has ignited debates on LGBT rights and promoted awareness. On the other hand, it has also led to a surge in homophobia and pushed certain elements of the government to adopt an aggressively anti-LGBT stance. Despite these setbacks, advocacy groups and individuals continue to work towards greater understanding and acceptance.

As a tourist or local in Poland, it is essential to remain vigilant regarding potential discrimination in various aspects of life, such as employment and housing. To ensure your safety and protect your rights, it’s best to stay informed about the current situation and seek advice from local LGBT advocacy groups or reliable sources.

Regardless of your destination, it is always crucial to remember that situations can change rapidly and that bad actors can be found everywhere. Consequently, it is vital to stay updated and maintain a level of caution throughout your travel, as the information available may not always be up to date.

In summary, while the history of LGBT rights in Poland displays certain advancements, the current environment calls for awareness, caution, and an active engagement with local advocacy groups to promote positive change. As a visitor or local, it is crucial to remain informed, cautious, and supportive of the LGBT community in order to bring about change and ensure greater equality for all.

The LGBT Legal Situation In Poland

Poland has some limited legal recognition for same-sex couples but does not grant them the same rights as heterosexual couples. Cohabiting same-sex couples do enjoy a few benefits, such as the tenancy of a shared household, the right not to testify against their partner, and residency rights under EU law. However, same-sex marriage remains illegal in Poland and is legal in 27 EU countries.

When it comes to the rights of LGBT individuals in everyday life, the situation can vary greatly between urban areas and smaller towns or rural areas. LGBT tourists might face a more welcoming atmosphere in larger cities, but it is essential to remain vigilant and practice caution.

While the legal situation may change in the future, it’s important for both locals and tourists to stay informed about current laws and general attitudes toward the LGBT community in Poland. It’s advisable to seek information from reliable sources, such as LGBT advocacy groups, before traveling to ensure accurate and up-to-date advice.

A few notable LGBT advocacy groups include the Campaign Against Homophobia (KPH) and Lambda Warszawa, which work to promote LGBT rights, provide support services, and raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBT individuals in Poland.

In terms of personal safety, it’s always a good idea to exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings wherever you go. Remember, situations can change rapidly, and there can be bad actors in any country. It’s important to trust your instincts and take steps to protect yourself if necessary, such as staying in well-populated areas and avoiding risky situations.

In conclusion, while the legal situation for LGBT individuals in Poland is not as advanced as in other European countries, progress is being made, and LGBT tourists and locals can enjoy their time in Poland by staying informed, remaining vigilant, and exercising caution.

The LGBT Social Situation In Poland

The social situation for LGBT individuals in Poland has been a topic of concern in recent years. Poland has been ranked as the most homophobic country in the European Union, according to a 2020 survey by ILGA-Europe.

This hostility towards LGBT rights has led to an increasing number of towns declaring themselves “LGBT-free zones.” While the country has seen a growth in equality parades and events in major cities, the overall situation remains concerning for many.

As a traveler to Poland, it’s essential to be aware of these issues and how they might affect your visit. Tourists may be less directly affected by the discrimination faced by local LGBT individuals, but it is still important to remain vigilant and cautious while traveling. Always be informed of the latest information and advice before traveling, as the situation can change rapidly.

For those wanting to stay safe and informed, there are various ways you can protect yourself and show support for the local LGBT community. Make a note of relevant LGBT advocacy groups, such as Lambda Warsaw and KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia). These organizations can provide valuable resources and information regarding LGBT rights and safety in Poland.

Keep in mind that situations can change fast, and the information you have may be out of date. Therefore, it’s crucial to seek current advice before traveling. Remember, there are always bad actors in every country, so staying aware and cautious is key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable trip.

The social situation in Poland may be challenging for LGBT individuals right now, but positive change is possible through continued support and visibility. Travelers can play a role in promoting equality by remaining informed, vigilant, and engaged with the local LGBT community.

Trans Rights In Poland

Poland has seen a surge in political attacks targeting the transgender community in recent years. This puts trans individuals in a particularly vulnerable position, given that they already face limited legal recognition and protection.

For local transgender people, this hostile environment can be disheartening and challenging to navigate. However, Poland’s trans community has managed to find support through various LGBT advocacy groups like Lambda Warszawa and KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia). These groups provide valuable resources, emotional support, and legal assistance.

Tourists who identify as transgender should exercise caution while traveling in Poland. It’s crucial to remain vigilant and understand that situations can change rapidly, and information may be outdated. Always seek current advice before traveling. Keep in mind that bad actors exist in every country, so it’s essential to remain cautious and aware of your surroundings at all times.

In the event of encountering issues related to trans rights, having personal safety measures in place can help protect the individual. Travelers can connect with local LGBT advocacy groups for support, information, and resources to better understand the landscape during their stay in the country.

Remember that conditions can change, and every experience may differ. Stay updated on current events, and connect with support groups whenever necessary to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable time exploring the rich culture and beautiful landscapes Poland has to offer!

The Future For The Queer Community In Poland

The future of LGBT rights in Poland is uncertain, but it’s an exciting time for the movement as local and international advocates work tirelessly to promote equality and acceptance for all.

Poland currently offers limited legal protections for same-sex couples and has seen a rise in anti-LGBT sentiment. This has led to a challenging climate for the local LGBTQ community. For tourists, the situation may vary depending on the location they visit. General advice is to remain cautious and vigilant while traveling, as situations can change quickly, and there’s always the potential for bad actors in any country.

In the face of these challenges, various LGBT advocacy groups have emerged to push for positive changes in Poland. These groups not only raise awareness but also offer guidance and support for both locals and tourists. Engaging with these organizations, either in person or via social media, can provide valuable information on the current state of affairs and any safety precautions to take.

A key factor in the advancement of LGBT rights in Poland is the continued dedication of activists and allies to raising awareness and advocating for change. It’s imperative for both locals and tourists to stay informed, as information can become outdated quickly. Always seek current advice before traveling, and connect with local and international advocacy groups to remain updated on the most recent developments.

The essence of being vigilant is to ensure that one’s safety and security are the top priority at all times. By fostering a sense of personal responsibility and staying informed, individuals can help contribute to a brighter future for LGBT rights in Poland, where everyone can enjoy equality and acceptance, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Protect Yourself While Travelling In Gay Poland

As an LGBT individual visiting or living in Poland, it’s essential to stay vigilant and be aware of the local situation concerning LGBT rights. While both male and female same-sex sexual activity is legal in Poland, public opinion varies, and discrimination still persists. As a tourist, you may find that urban centers like Gay Warsaw or Gay Kraków are more accepting, while smaller towns and rural areas can be less tolerant.

To ensure your safety and enjoyment while visiting Poland, consider taking the following steps:

Stay informed : Be sure to research the current climate regarding LGBT rights in Poland before traveling. Keep in mind that situations can change rapidly, and information may become outdated.

Connect with local LGBT advocacy groups : Get in touch with local organizations, such as Lambda Warszawa and KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia), to stay updated on events and the community’s well-being. They can also provide valuable advice and resources to help protect yourself during your stay.

Choose LGBT-friendly establishments : Opt for accommodations and establishments that advertise as LGBT-friendly, as they are more likely to be accepting and supportive. Websites like ours can be helpful resources for identifying the best spots.

Be cautious with public displays of affection : While it is essential to be true to yourself, it is also crucial to prioritize safety. In less tolerant areas, it might be best to avoid overt displays of affection to prevent any unwanted attention or hostility.

Stay alert and aware : Be mindful of your surroundings and trust your instincts. As with any location, there are bad actors, so remain vigilant in protecting yourself and your belongings.

Remember, the situation concerning LGBT rights can change quickly, so always seek up-to-date advice before traveling. By staying informed, connecting with advocacy groups, and exercising caution when necessary, you can have an enjoyable and safe trip to Poland.
