We stayed in Gabus Lodge for 2 nights and were very lucky to spend our Christmas Eve there. The place is magical, it's a big farm with many animals you can watch. The rooms are big and very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were amazing too, we sat outside while looking at the animals in the morning. The most beautiful thing about the place is that an amazing family runs it. They are so warm and welcoming. We enjoyed staying there with our body and mind. Thank you so much
Loved the layout, the location and the wildlife on the property. The horse ride was fantastic and the food was excellent. Run by a lovely family and super friendly and professional staff.
When you arrive you ask yourself were this is going but behind the facade of chicken and geese pen is an oasis. Very nice people and although the buildings feel bit out dated, the rooms are comfortable and clean. They all look out over a waterhole. You can see all kind of animals passing by. The space around the pool its very nice and dinning outside was great. The food was lovely. Shower gave a lot of water. Great value for money.
The people were very friendly! Beautiful room and the food was FANTASTIC! Will definitely visit again.
Had to make a last minute booking. They made us feel very welcome. Very clean! Friendly and helpful staff. The Dinner was exceptional! Breakfast was as expected with great coffee.
Beautiful location. Very good food and nice to be able to do a walk around the lodge.
Super lekker ontbijt . Fijne bedden en heel schoon.

Ideally situated only 3,5 hours drive from Windhoek, halfway to Rundu, and 1,5 hours from Namutoni and Etosha, Gabus Game Ranch offers lodge accommodation, close to Otavi in Namibia. Whether at the beginning or end of your journey, Gabus offers the perfect setting to linger and enjoy all the country has to offer. The lodge has risen on the 6,000-hectare farming land close to Otavi, This is the place where the weary traveller may stop for an unexpected refreshment and revitalization of body and soul. Luxuriously elegant rooms all en-suite with showers and fitted with air-conditioners, invite guests to linger and enjoy. High-quality bedding of only cotton and linen sheeting is used for that extra luxurious sleeping experience. All rooms look out onto the natural water hole which is frequented all day long by some of the abundant game found in the region. Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Waterbuck, impala, and Gnu are hardly disturbed by the movement of visitors around the entertainment area, thus watching the animals arrive for a drink and lick at the saltrock is one of the most relaxing and memorable experiences of a stay. To enjoy this pleasurable experience, you have the choice of witnessing nature from the solitude of your own room, or alternatively with friends and fellow visitors from the lapa at the pool. Beyond the pool, the first signs of African wildlife, leisurely enjoying a drink or frolicking around the salt rock, may be viewed. Here you can enjoy beautiful, well-kept lodge settings amidst nature and all it has to offer. Dinner is served on an elegant table setting where, once again, guests have the choice of eating intimately by themselves or together as a group with fellow guests. It is around a table that new friendships are made, experiences exchanged and just a jolly friendly atmosphere prevails, where food is lovingly prepared with only fresh ingredients. The drinking hole is lit by night for nature lovers who can’t seem to get enough of watching the various movements.

Description
Gabus Game Ranch, the lodge close to Otavi in Namibia invites to an oasis of green garden, blue swimming pool and a cool lapa. The lodge has risen on the 6000-hectares of farming land close to Otavi; this is a place where weary travellers may stop for an unexpected refreshment and revitalization of body and soul. The name Gabus is derived from the Bushman language, meaning “the place of water”, in a land usually associated with desert and dry landscape. The farmland of Gabus is situated at the foot of the Uisib mountains, approximately 10 km from the little town of Otavi. On arrival the garden arises like an unexpected green oasis after a long travel and a feeling of surprise and arrival at a destiny settles on the visitor. Beyond the azure blue swimming pool, the first sign of African wildlife may be viewed. Kudu, waterbuck, impala and gnu are hardly disturbed by the movement of visitors around the entertainment area, thus watching the animals arrive for a drink and lick at the salt rock is one of the most relaxing and memorable experiences of a stay. Luxuriously elegant rooms invite to linger and enjoy. All rooms look out onto the natural water hole which is frequented all day long by some of the abundance of game found in the region. Food is lovingly prepared with only fresh ingredients. The drinking hole is lit by night for those nature lovers who can’t seem to get enough of watching the various movements during the night.

Gabus Game Ranch - UPDATED 2024 Prices, Reviews & Photos
Omsk (Siberia, Russia)
Omsk, a city in the Omsk Region, Siberia , located at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ob rivers, a significant railroad center on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, was founded in 1716 and was formerly the capital of Western Siberia and of Akmolinsk province. With the expansion of Siberian trade it became the meeting place of European businessmen and Asiatics seeking an outlet for their products.
Omsk became the gateway of the Mennonites into Siberia. Contrary to their tradition in European Russia , the first Mennonites in Siberia settled in the city of Omsk. Peter J. Wiens, the first Mennonite known to have settled in Siberia, started a business there in 1897, maintaining a general store and a store for farm machinery in Mokraya. In addition he farmed some land. Later he also established a branch of his farm implement store in the city of Slavgorod . His business in Omsk grew rapidly and he built a large two-story building on the Vtoroy Vsvos in Mokraya. All of his property was confiscated during the Revolution of 1917.
In 1902 Johann P. Isaak and his brother bought some land south of Omsk in Kulomzino on the Irtysh River. Later, when Novo-Omsk, the railroad station of Omsk, located a few miles south, was established here, he sold some of his farmland very favorably. A. A. Lepp sold his mill at Barvenkovo in the Ukraine and came to Kulomzino, where he purchased land from Johann P. Isaak on which he built a five-story steam-driven flour mill. Later he sold the mill and built a factory. One of the Mennonites who found their way to Omsk was a banker, Jakob Hildebrand, the son-in-law of P. J. Wiens. Dr. Johann Isaak was an oculist there (1914-1920). Some Mennonites found employment in Russian and foreign business enterprises. Jakob Epp of Ivanovka worked in Omsk after the Revolution of 1917 and represented the Mennonites there. In 1911 the Mennonites established a Zentralschule in Kulomzino (see Omsk Mennonite Zentralschule ).
Omsk was also of significance for the Mennonite settlers in Siberia as the center for agents trying to serve land-hungry Europeans. In this respect Omsk was the gateway for the Mennonites looking for cheap land in Siberia. Some of the land agents tried to take advantage of the inexperienced land seekers (Hildebrand: 28).
During and after World War II Omsk very likely became the residence of Mennonites in exile and dispersion. Numerous letters came from the city indicating this. Aganetha Klassen wrote from Omsk that she and her family, formerly of Nieder-Chortitza , were living in the city ( Bote , 15 April 1955: 7). Peter Barg, formerly of the province of Ufa , also reported that he and his family were living in the city of Omsk ( Mennonitische Rundschau , 24 February 1954: 5, 8).

In Russia, all roads lead to Moscow , on account of the city's status as the national capital and its importance throughout history. If geography were the deciding factor, however, the Siberian city of Omsk would be the point where all Russia's roads converge—it's located literally in the heart of the country, approximately as far from Vladivostok as it is from the Belarusian border. Omsk boasts a spate of exciting attractions, even if you simply make a stop here as you ride the Trans-Siberian Railway eastward or westward.

Orthodox architecture never gets old, even if you've been traveling in Russia for a long time. This is particularly the case when it comes to the Assumption Cathedral of Omsk, whose gold-and-turquoise domes look resplendent under the blue skies that bless Omsk during the warmer months of the year. The cathedral was built in 1891 under the orders Nicholas, the last Tsar of Russia.
Time Travel at Omsk Fortress

The bad news? Much of what was once Omsk Fortress is now a residential area, with the only notable landmark that still stands being Tobolsk Gate (think Paris' Arc de Triomphe , but yellow and smaller). The good news? There's essentially no reason for a military fortification to exist in today's peaceful Omsk, which means you can stroll amid parks and cafés and imagine the area being war-torn—a small sacrifice to make in exchange for not being blown to bits.
Go Green at Ptich'ya Gavan'

Or white, as it were: Omsk is covered with snow several months of the year, which means that its prized Ptich'ya Gavan' central park is often more of a winter wonderland than the green reprieve you experience in summer. The park is popular with local families, to whom you can say "Privet" (Hello) as you walk past.
Walk on Omsk's Artsy Side

Although the building that houses Omsk District Museum of Visual Arts is unmistakably Russian, the collection you find inside is surprisingly eclectic for a city deep in Russia's interior. Recent collections have included a revival of Van Gogh's great works, among others. This is a particularly enjoyable Omsk attraction on cold winter days, when temperatures can drop far below freezing and sunshine can be rare.
Shoot for the Moon
Worldwide Planetarium Database
Though Omsk is a relatively large city, the skies over it become dark enough in the evening for stargazing. While visitors are not permitted to use the expensive telescopes housed inside, exhibits inside the museum provide a fascinating look into the cosmos, narrated by expert astronomical guides.
Shop on Lenin Street

Lenin Street's name is appropriate: Although it's the high street of a city thousands of miles from Moscow, the European-style architecture and cosmopolitan vibe you feel as you stroll past its boutique and cafés evokes the capital of Russia more than its forlorn interior. Local specialties you can purchase here include rustic jams made from local berries (and even, in some shops, cedar cones), as well as handmade rugs from Kazakhstan, which sits just south of Omsk.
Sample Siberian Cuisine

Speaking of unique Siberian food, it's not just preserves made from the fruits of evergreen trees. Omsk is a great place to discover the flavors of Russia's wild interior, whether you eat zagutai and stroganini (Siberia's take on sushi) or classic Russian plmeni dumplings filled with decidedly Siberian ingredients, such as bear and rabbit meat. Vkusno ! (That's Russian for "delicious"!)
Enjoy Historical Houses—While You Still Can

The wooden houses that line Nikolskiy Prospekt aren't protected, but they should be. Historical structures that are unfortunately in a state of disrepair, these houses are slated for demolition at some unspecific point in the future. Be sure to catch a glimpse of these historical house before they're gone. There will, however, be at least one left standing for a long time. The Omsk State Art Museum is in a traditional wooden house.
Go to the Circus

Omsk State Circus is a popular spot for local families, whose children love the opportunity to see acrobatic performances and animals that wouldn't otherwise make appearance in Siberia. If you do attend a show here, keep in mind that ethics with regard to animal treatment might not match up with those in North America or Western Europe, to say nothing of the smell that can pervade the auditorium during and even after a show.
Be a Drama Queen
While there's no guarantee that any shows will be playing at Omsk Drama Theater at the time of your trip, a visit to this 19th century building is a spectacle in and of itself. While not as huge, say, as Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, it's nonetheless an ornate architectural wonder that hearkens back to a glorious time in history. The interior of the theater is even open during the daytime; ask the person who's inside if any tours are available when you turn up.
Explore Cities Deeper in Siberia

Siberia starts in Omsk, even if you can't continue far into it. If you don't plan to travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway, take one of two day trips from Omsk. Travel to Tobolsk, whose hilltop Kremlin is one of the most picturesque in all of Russia, and whose beauty inspired a photo by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that ended up winning several awards. Or visit Tomsk, where you'll find a botanical garden dedicated to Siberian flora, and a museum that celebrates wooden architecture.
Ride the Trans-Siberian Railway

The idea of leaving Omsk behind can seem difficult, especially now that you've gotten to know this city in the heart of Siberia as well as you have. The mint-colored facade of Omsk Railway Station will make you smile, however, even if you're crying inside as you depart. Though it's not quite on the mid-line of the Trans-Siberian route between Moscow and Beijing , Omsk is a worthy starting place to begin a journey to either. If you head east make sure to stop in Irkutsk , the home of Lake Baikal and another underrated Siberian city.
