Ultra Warp Ride Tips

To get to a portal to another world, you must ride on Lunala or Solgaleo through the main Ultra Wormhole first, which plays as a mini-game.

As you travel through the wormhole, keep the following in mind:

  • If you lose too much speed, you will get sucked into the next wormhole regardless. Make sure to keep stocked up on the glowing gold balls to maintain momentum so you can avoid unwanted wormholes.
  • Try using Solgaleo. We've found the four-legged beast to be much easier to control than Lunala. You can change which Legendary Pokemon you use by speaking to an Ultra Recon Squad member at Megalopolis .
  • If the motion controls are discombobulating, turn them off. See the section below for details on how to - it's not as simple as finding the option in a menu.

When Ultra Ride is first unlocked, you'll be forced to traverse the Ultra Wormhole with motion controls. This is absolutely not ideal, and can be quite disorientating.

Changing this requires an odd, hidden method. First, fly to Heahea City on Akala Island . From the Pokemon Center, make a right, and enter the last building on the corner. Go into the Gamefreak office on the second floor and talk to the Aether Paradise employee to the left of the entrance to change the controls.

You can tell how rare a Wormhole is by the rings that appear around it. They progress from no rings, one ring, two rings, and two rings with extra colorful aura.

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

The farther you go while riding Lunala or Solgaleo, the more likely you'll find a very rare Wormhole that leads to a place many thousands of lightyears away.

The rarer a Wormhole, the more likely you'll find a rare Pokemon inside, including Legendary Pokemon. Keep in mind it's not guaranteed - the chances are just higher. Check back soon for screenshots.

There are five different colors of Ultra Wormholes, which represent different environments, ultimately determining which Pokemon you'll find as well.

  • White Ultra Wormholes: Ultra Beasts
  • Yellow Ultra Wormholes: Cave
  • Red Ultra Wormholes: Cliffs
  • Blue Ultra Wormholes: Water
  • Green Ultra Wormholes: Field

See each individual color section to see what Legendary Pokemon you'll find there, and check back soon for all Pokemon.

White wormholes will always have Ultra Beasts on the other side. Some are rarer than others, but all are catchable in infinite quantities. See the Ultra Beasts page for information on the remaining beasts.

Shiny Pokemon in Ultra Wormholes

There is a huge chance to find Shiny Pokemon in Ultra Wormholes.

Non-legendary Pokemon are determined to be Shiny upon entering the wormhole. This means you can save and soft-reset as you wish , and the Pokemon will still be Shiny, allowing you to recapture it until you attain the desired Nature.  This isn't the case with Legendary Pokemon. You can effectively soft-reset, resetting that Legendary Pokemon's Chance to be Shiny each time.

Pokemon Moon Version

Serebii.net Header

The alternate world essentially inverts the time, so Day becomes Night and Night becomes day. This isn't a version exclusive feature, so if you trade Lunala over to Pokmon Ultra Sun, you'll be able to activate the wormhole during the day.

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

Details: The effects are largely marginal and superficial. The time is inverted so AM becomes PM and PM becomes AM. This will allow for you to do time-based evolutions, hunt for time-specific Pokmon and events at all times. The areas Altar of the Sunne & Altar of the Moone will become their counterparts, as will the Lake of the Sunne & Lake of the Moone . This essentially makes the overworld of Ultra Sun be like the overworld of Ultra Moon, and vice-versa

Despite this, this feature does not change the wild Pokmon you'll encounter, so if you're playing Ultra Sun you will still encounter Vulpix rather than Sandshrew, and Rockruff & Cosmoem will still evolve into the version specific evolutions.

Location : Lake of the Sunne (Sun), Lake of the Moone (Moon)

Another feature is that this is the only way to get the Legendary Pokmon Ultra Beast, Cosmog. Cosmog is not found in the native world, but is in fact found in the Alternate World. When you have gone through the portal go to the Lake of the Sunne or Lake of the Moone from Ula'ula Meadow and reach the altar, with the cover legends still in your party. Cosmog will then appear. You don't need to battle it, it will join you automatically. It can evolve into Cosmoem and then into another Solgaleo in Ultra Sun or another Lunala in Ultra Moon. You can only get one Cosmog per game. Once captured, you will then get the Lunalium Z in Ultra Sun and Solganium Z in Ultra Moon

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

Another reason to do this is Lycanroc Dusk Form. In Pokmon Ultra Sun, to evolve the Own Tempo Rockruff into Lycanroc, you just have to level it up to Level 25 or higher between 5pm and 5:59pm. However, in Ultra Moon this is a bit trickier as, due to the inversion of time, you'd need to be awake at between 5am and 5:59am.

Using the Reverse World is a good way to get around this, as it would then allow for you to switch to have the time by 5pm and 5:59pm while in the Reverse World.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Guide: Ultra Wormholes and the New Shiny Hunting Method

Image of Autumn Fish

In  Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon , you have the rare chance to travel to other dimensions by utilizing Ultra Wormholes. You doubtlessly already know that you can use these Ultra Wormholes to find a slew of Legendaries and Ultra Beasts, but did you know they’re also useful for catching rare Pokemon and even shinies?

That’s right, Ultra Wormholes can quickly fill out your PC Boxes with valuable Pokemon if you know how to properly utilize them. In this guide, we’ll touch on everything you need to know about Ultra Wormholes and how you can use them to find Shiny Pokemon.

Let’s dive in!

Ultra Wormholes in  Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

After traveling through the Ultra Wormhole to reach Ultra Megalopolis during a story segment before the Pokemon League, you can ride Solgaleo or Lunala into the Ultra Wormhole at any time to explore Ultra Space. The Ultra Warp Ride plays out like a minigame.

In Ultra Space, you collect orange energy orbs to gain speed and avoid electrical energy orbs to prevent loss of momentum. If you lose too much speed, you may be sucked into an Ultra Wormhole that you didn’t want to enter.

Traveling in Ultra Space is done with gyro controls by default. However, you may switch to Circle Pad controls by complaining to the Aether Foundation employee at Game Freak’s office in Heahea City.

As a bonus, you may even choose whether you want to ride on Solgalea or Lunala by talking to Zossie or Soliera in Ultra Megalopolis. This is purely an aesthetic choice, however, since they both have the same hitbox.

In Ultra Space, there are five different colored Ultra Wormholes that lead to different types of Pokemon, Legendaries, and Ultra Beasts.

  • White Wormholes — These always lead to an Ultra Beast. The rarer the Ultra Wormhole, the rarer the Ultra Beast. Note that Ultra Beasts can be captured multiple times.
  • Red Wormhole — These lead to a cliffside. Rare bird Pokemon and various Legendaries are found here.
  • Yellow Wormhole  — These lead to a cave. Rare cave-dwelling Pokemon and various Legendaries are found here.
  • Green Wormhole — These lead to a field. Rare field-dwelling Pokemon and various Legendaries are found here.
  • Blue Wormhole — These lead to a waterfall. Rare water Pokemon and various Legendaries are found here.

Note that if you accidentally knock out any Legendary Pokemon, you’ll have another opportunity to find them again. Once captured, however, you won’t be able to encounter them again in that save.

As you travel deeper into Ultra Space, you become increasingly more likely to encounter rare types of Ultra Wormholes that lead to rarer Pokemon encounters.

Ultra Wormholes Explained Rarity Levels Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Guides

The rarer the Ultra Wormhole, the more likely you are to encounter a rare Pokemon. If you go through a colored rarity Level 4 Ultra Wormhole, you’re guaranteed to find a Legendary Pokemon — unless you’ve caught all of the ones found in that color wormhole and don’t meet the requirements for any that may be left.

The further you travel in Ultra Space, the more likely you are to encounter rare Ultra Wormholes. Rarity Level 2, 3, and 4 Wormholes begin to appear more often in Ultra Space the further you go, while Rarity 1 Wormholes slowly peter out as you rack up the Light Years.

If you get really good at Ultra Warp Ride, you can use it to not only capture Legendary Pokemon but Shiny Pokemon as well.

How to find Shiny Pokemon by Exploring Ultra Wormholes in  Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Shiny Pokemon are surprisingly common beyond Ultra Wormholes. What’s even better is if you save before initiating the encounter and it turns out to be shiny, you’re free to soft reset for better IVs, natures, and abilities as it will always be shiny.

The rate of encountering Shiny Pokemon dramatically increases the further you travel in Ultra Space. It’s also suspected that the rarity level of the Ultra Wormhole has an impact on whether the Pokemon turns out shiny or not as well.

It’ll be easier to hunt for these shinies after you’ve captured all of the available Legendaries. However, if you wish to avoid the Legendaries for now and hunt for Shiny Pokemon, try to enter a Rarity Level 1 or 2 Ultra Wormhole after traveling several thousand Light Years through Ultra Space.

Once you get good at navigating around Ultra Wormholes, your PC boxes will be positively flooding with Legendary and Shiny Pokemon. While you’re here, be sure to check out our other  Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon guides .

Shiny Pokémon

The chart below shows the probability of shiny Pokémon appearing in each type of wormhole, except for Type 1. In Type 1 wormholes, the chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon is always 1%, regardless of the distance traveled. Type 4 wormholes will normally contain legendary Pokémon, for which the odds do not apply, but if the player has defeated legendary Pokémon in the color of wormhole, they are able to find non-legendary Pokémon, for which these odds do apply.

Pokémon in the Wormholes

Below you can find the different Pokémon that can be encountered in each color wormhole. Every Pokémon encountered in Ultra Space will be Level 60.

Quagsire

Legendaries and Ultra Beasts

The chart below shows you every legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beast that can be encountered within the different color wormholes. Some of the Pokémon require the player using a specific game or having a certain Pokémon in their party, which can be found to the right of the Pokémon’s name. Before encountering a legendary, a silhouette of the Pokémon will appear at the far end of the Ultra Space Wilds. Like the regular Pokémon, all legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beasts are encountered at Level 60. Each legendary Pokémon can only be caught once, while Ultra Beasts and normal Pokémon can be caught unlimited times. The lengthy cutscene preceding a battle with each Ultra Beast can be skipped after you have defeated it or captured it once.

  • The Ho-Oh that can be obtained in Ultra Space has exclusive access to Burn Up, which it cannot get by any other means.

Ultra Beast Worlds

Once you have entered a white wormhole, you will land in one of seven different worlds, which are each home to a different Ultra Beast. The world of each beast is designed to reflect its typing and/or appearance. The chart below displays the Ultra Beasts found in Ultra Space with their respective worlds and the odds of encountering each world.

Each non-legendary Pokémon in the Ultra Space Wilds can potentially drop an item after being caught or defeated. You can save before the encounter and soft reset for an item drop to occur, but the item that is dropped is determined upon entry of the wormhole. This only matters for Pokémon that can drop more than 1 different item.

Kantonian Forme Evolutions

While in Ultra Space, any Pikachu, Cubone, or Exeggcute that would normally evolve into the Alolan forme of its evolution will now evolve into the Kantonian forme of its evolution when the requirements are met.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon you can go through a wormhole

To, er, Ultra Megalopolis.

Pokémon's upcoming enhanced re-releases of Sun and Moon will let you travel through a wormhole and visit the mysterious world where the series' new Ultra Beasts originated.

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

Introduced in Sun and Moon, Ultra Beasts are extradimensional Pokémon with - shall we say - outlandish designs. I'm not a fan.

Previously we had only seen these Ultra Beasts in the world of Pokémon. But in Ultra Sun and Moon you can travel to their world and see where they are from. It's the most significant departure yet for the re-releases, which will otherwise simply remix Sun and Moon's tropical region of Aloha.

Travel through the wormhole and you'll find the Ultra Beasts in their natural habitat - a futuristic-looking city named... Ultra Megalopolis. It is revealed below in today's new trailer for the games:

Ultra Sun and Moon will add three more of the Ultra Beasts for you to catch: UB Adhesive, which looks like a hair perming machine; UB Burst which looks like a disco ball ate a clown; and UB Assembly, which looks like a square pyramid on legs.

One of the greatest features added to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is the Ultra Wormhole. When you use the Ultra Wormhole, you can travel to distant dimensions (called Ultra Space) on top of Solgaleo or Lunala. Within these wormholes, you have the ability to encounter Legendary Pokémon, and  none of them are shiny locked! This means you can soft reset as many times as necessary to get shiny legendary Pokémon.

There are also non-legendary Pokémon that can appear and they can also be shiny. Their mechanics are different than wild encounters, but will also be discussed.

This guide is designed to help you take advantage of this features and how to do so efficiently. We will go over good team compositions, strategies to properly weaken the Pokémon so that you can catch it as well as a strategy for catching them in the coveted Beast Balls.

Please note that pictures and other companion guides are in the works.

Traversing the Ultra Wormhole

You can travel through the Ultra Wormhole at the  Altar of Sunne/Moone on Poni Island depending on the version of the game you have. This becomes available once you’ve gone to Ultra Megalololis for the first time. You will fly initially on Lunala in Ultra Sun or Solgaleo in Ultra Moon, but you can change this to the one of your choice in Ultra Megalopolis.

The game will also use pure motion controls (which are incredibly difficult to use efficiently) unless you  change them . It is highly recommended that you head to GAME FREAK’s building in Heahea City and talk to one of the developer characters in their office to switch to the Circle Pad.

Energy Types that Appear in the Ultra Wormholes

These are the different types of orbs you’ll find in the wormhole. The orange orbs increase your energy and speed while the blue ones decrease your energy and speed.

As you travel, you will encounter three things inside the minigame. The first are orange orbs this increases the speed that you travel at which allows you to travel further through the worm hole. The second are  blue orbs that spark with electricity which will slow you down! The third are exit wormholes that are in many different colors. The farther you travel, the less common the orange orbs will appear, so you need to be sure to collect as many. As you slow down and lose energy, you will be unable to escape the pull of the wormholes that you approach rendering you unable to travel farther.

A good strategy is to gather as many orange orbs as you can at the earliest parts of your travel to build up speed. Then, stay  near the center using smaller movements to avoid the blue orbs. It will take some practice, but you’ll soon be able to travel long distances to the rare exit wormholes.

As you travel through the wormhole, you should notice four different appearances of wormholes. These increase in fanciness with their rarity. Basic wormholes have no “halos,” the next rarest will have a single “halo,” the third will have two “halos,” and the rarest will have two “halos” with a type of spiraling energy. The rarest wormholes are  guaranteed to have legendary Pokémon (until you have caught all of them with that color), though technically all wormholes can contain them.

The rarer the wormhole, the higher the chance of rare Pokémon. What follows is a table detailing the odds of finding these various types after certain distances.

Table data retrieved from Serebii.net

Which Pokémon you get is entirely dependent on the color of wormhole. In all, there are 5 different colors of wormholes:  white, red, yellow, blue, and green . The white wormholes will  always have Ultra Beasts (or send you to Ultra Megalopolis). The other four colors, which are more common, lead to different worlds.

Red leads to a large cliff area that’s typically infested with Pokémon that can fly. Yellow leads to a cave system underground that typically has cave-dwellers. Blue leads to a beautiful waterfall where typically you’ll find water types. Green leads to what appears to be a subterranean cavern with different types of Pokémon. A later section details which legendaries you can find in these different wormholes.

Regular Pokémon have a chance of being shiny when you enter a wormhole. The further you go, the higher the chance the Pokémon is shiny. There is a nifty little formula that determines the odds of a shiny encounter based on distance and wormhole rarity:

mod + rarity_mod * min(9, (light_year / 500) - 1)

Though, for Wormhole Type 1, the odds are always 1% regardless of distance. Here are the values for the other types of wormholes:

Due to that min function, there is a cap to the shiny rate for these wormholes. For type 1, the maximum odds are 1%. For type 2, the maximum odds are 10%. For type 3, the maximum odds are 19%. And for type 4, the maximum odds are 36%. This is a great way to get some shiny Pokémon (though the encounter tables are very limited).

When you enter a wormhole, it is highly recommended that you  save . If Pokémon that you encounter is shiny, then it is always shiny. This means that you can soft-reset for better natures and/or IVs with these shiny Pokémon, if you wish.

When you enter a wormhole with a Legendary Pokémon, the screen will flash light and you will get a note about some kind of “powerful presence.” This means it is a good time to save.

Unlike the non-legendary shiny Pokémon detailed above, the legendaries are  not guaranteed to be shiny . They become standard encounters with the standard rates. Each time it is encountered (approaching it), the game will determine if it is shiny or not. These odds are 1/4096 if you don’t have the shiny charm and ~1/1365 if you do have the shiny charm.

This makes it ideal to walk up close to the encounter and then save. You can then soft reset after encountering the Pokémon to see if it is shiny.

Strategies for Soft Resetting

Here are a few useful techniques to optimize your time while soft resetting for the Pokémon you desire.

When soft resetting for shinies (whether it be for the legendary Pokémon or to reroll stats on the already-found non-legendary shinies), it is highly recommended that you save several times upon approach. Save right outside the wormhole when you enter the area. Then, get close to the Pokémon encounter. Save before getting close, then continue edging closer saving every step or two. You will then be right at the point where you take a single step and encounter the Pokémon (or a single A-press in the case of Ultra Beasts).

This will help you get very close to the encounter zone when you reload your save. Extra steps take up more time upon each encounter. Every extra second or few frames each encounter adds up very quickly! If it takes an extra second to approach the encounter zone, that quickly becomes 1,000 wasted seconds during 1,000 encounters! That’s over 16 wasted minutes that could have gone into more encounters!

The Soft Reset Button Combination

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have a built in button combination that resets the game. Instead of pressing the home button, closing the game, and then relaunching the game, you can press L + R + Start/Select (you can do either Start or Select). This will immediately throw you back to the title screen and you can relaunch your save file.

A preview of rubber bands holding down the 3DS's shoulder buttons

Here is an example of a rubber band wrapped around the 3DS to hold down the L and R buttons.

When using the soft reset button combination, you can use rubber bands and paper clips to make it easier to soft reset while watching TV or doing some other activity.

Before starting, make sure you’ve entered the game ready to encounter the Pokémon. Take a large rubber band (which you can find in the office supply section of most stores) and wrap it around your 3DS so that it is holding the L and R buttons down. Then, you can bend a paper clip to keep the Circle Pad holding up.

A bent paper clip and rubber band on the 3DS

Here is how the bent paper clip can hold the circle pad up. Bend it to a shape like shown.

With that set up, you just need to press A twice when you see the title screen to enter the game. Once you encounter the Pokémon and need to reset the game, you can just press the Start button.

It is recommended that for this method you do not have the L = A option set . It seems to interfere with the button combination for soft resetting.

Strategies for Weakening Pokémon

Once you have found the Shiny Pokémon, you need to weaken it before capture (unless you want to lob Poké Balls at it until capture, though that is not recommended).

Some basic tricks to keep in mind are having certain “roles” fulfilled by Pokémon on your team. At the most basic level, you should have a “False Swiper” and a “Sleeper” or “Paralyzer.”

False Swipe (or Hold Back) is a move that deals damage but never lets the opposing Pokémon’s HP fall below 1 HP. This means that you can guarantee hitting the Pokémon to weaken it while never knocking it out. Since capture mechanics work based on current HP values, this is incredibly useful.

All status conditions also make it easier to capture a Pokémon. However, you don’t want to use poison or burn because it could knock the Pokémon out. Freezing could also work, but it’s much harder to find a good freezer. With this in mind,  paralyze and  sleep are much more consistent and recommended. Paralyze increase your odds of capture, but not as much as sleep. So, if you are okay with constantly making the opposing Pokémon sleep, that’s the route you should go.

A great Pokémon to use for this purpose is Gallade, as it can learn Hypnosis and False Swipe, filling both of these roles at once. However, there are more consistent, though also more advanced and difficult to produce, team compositions. A more in-depth guide will be published soon with this information.

At this point, it is also important to mention Beast Balls. These new Poké Balls were introduced in Alola and are coveted by collectors everywhere. They look cool and they are difficult to use. In fact, Beast Balls are approximately 1/10th as effective as a standard Poké Ball. That means that you need a lot of them because it can take dozens or hundreds of throws for successful capture.

You can purchase Beast Balls at the Aether Foundation in either singles or batches of ten. They’re fairly expensive, but you can store up to 999 at a time. It is highly recommended that you have at least 200 Beast Balls in your inventory at a time if you’re going to use them to catch legendaries.

The next section will detail a basic version of the “Trevenant Leppa Berry” Method for how to keep a Pokémon from struggling itself to death while you throw an immense amount of Beast Balls.

This basic trick is to get a Trevenant with it’s hidden ability: Harvest. Harvest is a really nifty ability because it has a 50% chance (100% in harsh sunlight) of restoring a berry that was consumed as a held item. This means that if you can get an opposing Pokémon a Leppa Berry (which restores 10PP to a depleted move) and give it the Harvest Ability, it will never struggle.

To accomplish this, we teach Trevenant Trick and Skill Swap. Skill Swap changes a Pokémon’s ability with it’s opponents and vice versa, which transfers Harvest. Trick swaps a Pokémon’s held item with it’s opponent, which transfers the Leppa Berry.

Now, you can swap to your False Swiper and Sleeper/Paralyzer to get the Pokémon down to a low HP value. Whenever the opposing Pokémon runs out of PP in a move, it should restore it automatically. Thus, it should never struggle itself to death and you can throw as many Poké Balls as you need.

Legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beasts In Each Wormhole Type

This section details what Pokémon are available in each of the colored wormholes. Please note that for all colors but White, some Pokémon require having certain party members. Those are listed in the “Requirements” column of each table.

White Wormhole

The White Wormholes will always have an Ultra Beast within. The first time you encounter them, there is a rather long cutscene that plays, so it is recommended that you encounter it, catch it, then find the hole again for shiny hunting. Ultra Beasts can be found an unlimited number of times.

How to earn Battle Points with Mantine Surf, travel through Ultra Wormholes, and much more in the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon games.

  • Tips & Tricks

Tip 1: Riding the Waves with Mantine Surf

screen__PUSUM_HP_1b.jpg

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon , you’ll be able to have fun with Mantine Surf, a sport that lets you do some surfing while riding on Mantine’s back. Mantine Surf isn’t just a way to get between islands – it’s also a sport where you compete for the highest score by pulling off different cool moves! You can earn BP (Battle Points) by using Mantine Surf from various beaches. Aim for a high score by gaining speed so you can do more tricks which means more points!

Tip 2: To the worlds that await beyond

screen__PUSUM_HP_1a.jpg

Ultra Wormholes are strange pockets of space that have been seen in the Alola region before. You’ll be able to ride on the backs of the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo or Lunala to travel through an Ultra Wormhole and reach the worlds that lie beyond, where you can encounter Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokémon, such as Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and others. In fact, all the Legendary Pokémon of yore will appear in the worlds you explore in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon .

Tip 3: Special Legendary encounters

screen__PUSUM_HP_1d.jpg

Most of the Legendary Pokémon that you encounter await in the worlds beyond Ultra Wormholes, but some Legendary Pokémon can be encountered when you fulfill special conditions. For example, you can encounter Giratina if you have both Dialga (which can be encountered in Pokémon Ultra Sun ) and Palkia (which can be encountered in Pokémon Ultra Moon) . If a friend has one of those Pokémon and you have the other, you can help each other out by trading*.

Tip 4: New Z-Moves

screen__PUSUM_HP_1c-1.jpg

Z-Moves are moves of tremendous power—so powerful that they can only be used once per battle. When a Trainer and their Pokémon combine the force of their wills, the full strength of their effort bursts forth in an epic Z-Move! To use a Z-Move, you must have two key in-game items: a Z-Power Ring and a Z-Crystal. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon , there are five Pokémon with new Z-Moves.

Ultra Space

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

Ultra Space (Japanese: ウルトラスペース Ultra Space ) is an interdimensional realm from where Ultra Beasts may come, being accessible via Ultra Wormhole . Ultra Space and Ultra Wormholes were discovered and named by Professor Mohn of the Aether Foundation . Professor Burnet , a researcher of the relationship between Pokémon and other dimensions, is researching these strange phenomena.

Ultra Space is an interdimensional spatial realm filled with crystalline meteoroids and populated by members of the Cosmog line. It links to a number of different worlds and dimensions through differently colored Ultra Wormholes called warp holes . While they may naturally occur, these wormholes are more commonly deliberately opened by the Cosmog, its evolutionary relatives of Solgaleo and Lunala ; and Necrozma .

In ancient times, Necrozma's light shone through the Ultra Wormholes connecting to various worlds such as the Ultra Beasts' homeworlds, Ultra Megalopolis and the Pokémon world , primarily over the Alola region . However, following an incident with the residents of Ultra Megalopolis in ancient years, Necrozma's body was damaged and it lost the ability to produce light, the agony caused by its injuries sending it into a berserk state where it constantly hungered for light. As a result, it was imprisoned in Megalo Tower . Professor Kukui theorizes that the Sparkling Stones found across Alola and fashioned into Z-Rings and Z-Power Rings are the lost pieces of Necrozma's body.

At one point in the past, a Solgaleo S US /Lunala M UM arrived in Alola from Ultra Space and won a fight against the guardian deities . Solgaleo/Lunala bestowed the Tapunium Z to the guardian deities, and in conjunction with a Lunala S US /Solgaleo M UM produced several Cosmog that were revered by the region's monarchies and protected by the four tapu, before the Legendary Pokémon departed back to Ultra Space.

At another point in the past, Necrozma appeared in Alola and stole its light, covering the region in darkness. Necrozma clashed against the guardian deities , who fought to defend Alola. During that time, Necrozma also absorbed Solgaleo US /Lunala UM to become its Dusk Mane US /Dawn Wings UM form. With the assistance of a youth, Z-Crystals and Sparkling Stones , the deities banished Necrozma, freed Solgaleo US /Lunala UM and reclaimed Alola's light.

Prior to the events of Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon , Professor Mohn and the Aether Foundation had done research on Ultra Space, giving the location its name, and discovering what lies beyond Ultra Wormholes. He had discovered that Cosmog may be an Ultra Beast, due to its origins of Ultra Space.

In the games

Pokémon sun and moon.

Lusamine and Guzma go into an Ultra Wormhole using Nebby 's power. They then wind up in the home of Nihilego , the Ultra Deep Sea (referred to as Ultra Space). The player and Lillie travel to this world, in order to save Guzma and Lusamine, by forming another Ultra Wormhole created by Nebby at the Altar of the Sunne S / Altar of the Moone M after it evolved into a Solgaleo S / Lunala M . They return to Alola with Guzma and Lusamine defeating her after she fuses with Nihilego .

In the post-game, an Ultra Wormhole can still be found at the Altar of the Sunne S /Altar of the Moone M and can be passed through to enter an alternate version of the Pokémon world , specifically Alola, where it'll be nighttime S /daytime M instead, there the player can obtain a Cosmog. This world is known as the reverse world.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

The following areas can be accessed by merely interacting with the Ultra Wormhole at the Altar of the Sunne US / Altar of the Moone UM :

  • Megalo Tower

Unlike Sun and Moon, the player can travel through the Ultra Wormhole with the Ultra Recon Squad 's Solgaleo US / Lunala UM or Nebby using the Ultra Warp Ride throught the Ultra Wormhole at the Altar of the Sunne US /Altar of the Moone UM and access several new Ultra Space worlds through the Warp Holes. The following areas can be accessed this way:

  • Reverse world
  • Ultra Deep Sea
  • Ultra Jungle US
  • Ultra Desert UM
  • Ultra Plant
  • Ultra Forest US
  • Ultra Crater UM
  • Cliff World
  • Water World
  • Rocky World

If a Pikachu , Cubone , or Exeggcute is evolved in Ultra Space, it will evolve into Kantonian Raichu , Marowak , or Exeggutor rather than their respective Alolan form . Despite the Ultra Ruin being an alternate version of Alola, Pikachu, Exeggcute and Cubone will still evolve into their Kanto counterparts as opposed to their Alolan forms.

In the anime

In Revealing the Stuff of Legend! , Ash , his classmates , and Gladion traveled through an Ultra Wormhole with Solgaleo to the Ultra Deep Sea to rescue Lusamine from Nihilego . Everyone escaped the Ultra Deep Sea and returned to their own world in 10,000,000 Reasons to Fight!

An anime-exclusive world in Ultra Space known only as Poipole's world debuted in a dream The Shape of Love to Come! . It is the home world of Ash's Poipole . In The Prism Between Light and Darkness! , the Ultra Guardians arrived in this world with Lunala in pursuit of Necrozma , where it was revealed that Necrozma used to grant light to this alternate world before it lost its power protecting its residents. With the combined Ultra Aura of the people and Pokémon of Alola, Necrozma was able to return to its Ultra form , bringing life back to the world. Its mission complete, Poipole decided to stay with its kind, bidding Ash and Pikachu farewell.

In Battling the Beast Within! , Ash and Pikachu were transported through a dimensional rift to the Ultra Ruin , an alternate version of Alola that was devastated by the arrival of a Guzzlord . The pair came face to face with Guzzlord, but were rescued by Dia and his friend Zeraora . Ash and Pikachu later assisted Dia and Zeraora in pushing Guzzlord into an Ultra Wormhole before returning to their own world in Parallel Friendships! .

In the final episode of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon , Ash recounted a story of an adventure he had with Solgaleo in an unnamed Ultra Space world, where he helped an Ultra Beast he had "never seen before", despite all known Ultra Beasts having debuted in the anime. It was later shown in a flashback in footage recorded by Rotom , who showed it to the Aether Foundation. Lusamine was so impressed by Rotom's findings that she offered Rotom a position helping the Foundation, which Rotom accepted with Ash's blessing.

Eventually, Sun, Moon, and Lusamine were sent back to Alola through an Ultra Wormhole .

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes Guide – How To Catch Shiny Pokemon, Pokemon Locations

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes Guide to help you learn all about the Ultra Space, Wormholes, and Pokemon Locations.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Z-Crystals Locations Guide | Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes Guide

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes Guide to help you learn all about the Ultra Space, Wormholes, and Pokemon Locations as there are not easy to find and capturing the Shiny Pokemon, Rare Pokemon, and Legendary Pokemon but it will require some effort.

Pokemon USAUM allows you to explore the entirety of the Ultra Space. In order to do so, you need to head to the Ultra Megalopolis through Ultra Wormhole and hop on Solgaleo/Lunala to find different Pokemon. While soaring through the Ultra Space, you need to collect the Orange Orbs and avoid the Blue Orbs. The reason for this is that the Orange Orbs will provide you with an increase in speed while the Blue Orbs will decrease your speed.

If you wish to explore the Ultra Space in all entirety, you need to make sure that you have as much Orange Orbs as you possibly can gather. In this Pokemon USAUM Wormholes Guide, we have detailed all that you need to know about how to catch Shiny Pokemon, Rare Pokemon, and Legendary Pokemon in the game.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes

In this Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Ultra Wormholes Guide, we have detailed everything you need to know about Wormholes in Pokemon USAUM.

Types of Wormholes

There are essentially four types of wormholes. Inside the Ultra Wormhole, there are four different types of wormholes, differentiated by their level of rarity.

First of all, there is the one with no rings; it is a blue orb-like glowing wormhole shaped with no surrounding shapes, then there is the one with one ring around it, then comes the one with two rings and the last and the rarest one has all sorts of rings around the rings surrounding it; this is the rarest of all wormholes and the probability of encountering a legendary Pokemon in this wormhole is very high.

Additional to that, there are five different colors to the Wormholes which are as follows:

  • Yellow. These lead you to dark cave, where usually you find your Pokemon at the end in an illuminated room-like area.
  • Green. Lead you to green fields or forests.
  • Blue. Take you to watery areas, oceans usually.
  • Red. They take you to cliffs and mountainous areas.
  • White. They lead you to Ultra Beasts.

Now before we dive into the Ultra Warp drive, the following are some tips and tricks for being successful at wormhole hunting:

  • Avoid the blue and aim for the orange. While soaring through the Ultra Wormhole, you will come across a few colored Warp Holes. Some of these are orange rings and when you go through one of these, they increase your speed. The others are the blue ones which are electrifying obstacles that lower the speed of your travel. In order to increase your chances of finding a Legendary Pokemon in USAUM, you need to ensure that you find all the Orange Orbs and avoid hitting the Blue Orbs.
  • Use your best-suited cruise controls. In Heahea City on Akala Island, the Game freaks headquarters is located in the office building. There you can find and interact with a professor who will change your wormhole controls from Gyroscopic or motion control to Circle Pad. Now the gyroscopic controls are harder to manage and are somewhat inaccurate and travelling in the Ultra Wormhole is all about accuracy as you have to avoid all unwanted warp holes. So, you must visit the headquarters before you dive into the Wormhole and make sure you have your best suited controls on.
  • Avoid unwanted warp holes. In your travels on the Ultra Warp Ride, you will come across several warp holes that will suck you in if you are unable to escape them in speed. So, make sure you maintain a good speed by catching all the orange orb and avoiding the blue traps. Adversely, if you get sucked into one of the warp holes, make sure you save the game and explore them while you’re at it. You will be surprised to find maxed out, high level Pokemon in these warp holes.
  • Try using Solgaleo instead of Lunala. In m opinion, a four-legged beast such as Solgaleo, is much easier to control than a flying creature such as Lunala. So, see which of the two best suits you and switch to it by talking to the Ultra Recon Squad at Ultra Megalopolis.
  • The farther you go the better. As you know the four rarities of the wormholes, you need to aim for the rarest ones as they are your best chance at obtaining a shiny, rare or even legendary Pokemon. And the chance of encountering such a Warp Hole increases with the distance you go inside the Ultra Wormhole.
  • You can fly straight to the Altar. An improvement in the gameplay is that you can fly straight to the Wormhole at the Altar of the Sunne/Moone on Poni Island using your travel Charizard. You do not always have to go through the cave where the trial is held, instead you can reach the exact point instantly.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Shiny Pokemon Farming As you continue to progress ahead, you may also come across a Shiny Pokemon. In order to increase your chances of encountering a Shiny Pokemon, you need to go as farther in Light Years as you possibly can. On top of that, the shininess of a Pokemon depends upon your landing on the Ultra Space Wilds. This should allow you to get a Shiny Pokemon with better IVs.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Wormholes and Pokemon The Pokemon that you can while exploring the Ultra Space is the distance and the color of the Wormhole. If you are looking forward to catching a specific Pokemon, you should pay special attention to these things because they will help you out in your quest.

One important thing to remember here is that the Pokemon you get from these colored Wormholes is completely random so you can never be sure. You basically need to continue trying until you get the one you seek. Finally, it is also important to note that you can only capture a Legendary Pokemon once but this does not apply to Ultra Beasts and Normal Pokemon.

Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon: How To Get Shiny Pokemon Fast | Wormhole Running Guide

Shiny Pokémon are the holy grail of everyone's Pokedex, and now there's a new method that makes farming for these colorful variants easier.

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

There’s a new method for getting Shiny Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Moon . Wormhole Running makes farming for shinies easy — easier than every before — and it practically guarantees a shiny with a few hours of effort. That sounds like a lot, but when it comes to finding shinies in the wild, that’s a godsend we’ve never seen before in any previous Pokémon.

Wormhole Running is exactly what it sounds like — instead of getting into endless Pokémon battles and trying to farm S.O.S. Pokemon until a rare shiny appears, you can instead use your skills in and Ultra Wormhole. The further you travel (measured in Light Years) in this minigame, the higher your chances will be of encountering an honest-to-god shiny Pokemon. Normally, these guys appear about 1% of the time — your chances are much, much better here.

How To Get Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Pokémon are super-rare variants of regular Pokémon. They’re purely cosmetic, but finding a shiny Pokémon can drastically increase your trading ability — also, they’re totally awesome. Shiny Pokémon are the rarest finds, but there are ways to make farming a whole lot easier. In this instance, we’ll be using Ultra Wormholes to speed up the shiny Pokémon farming process .

Ultra Wormholes are available after you become Alola Champion, and are located in the Altar of the Sunne / Moone .

  • Enter the Ultra Wormhole to start a mini-game — at 3,000+ Light Years , you’ll begin increasing your chances of finding Shiny Pokémon.
  • Travel further than that, and your chances will continue to increase.
  • Playing with Ultra Wormholes, it’s possible (and probable) to find about 1 Shiny Pokémon per hour.

Not only that, but Shiny Pokémon can be “soft reset” — whether a Pokémon is shiny or not is determined when you enter a wormhole. Nature and IVs are determined when you enter the battle — meaning you can reset the Pokémon and try for better quality Shiny Pokémon.

how to travel through ultra wormhole in pokemon sun

While Wormhole Running, Pokémon in wormholes discovered at high LY (Light Years) will always have at least 3 Perfect IVs .

IMPORTANT NOTE : To improve Wormhole Running, you can change your controls from Motion-Controlled to D-Pad-Controlled . That gives you much, much more fine control, making it easier to reach a higher LY.

How To Change Ultra Wormhole Controls:  Go to Heahea City, Akala Island and enter the GameFreak Offices and talk to the Aether scientist on the left. He’ll swap controls for you.

The further you travel, the higher your LY, and the more likely you are to encounter powerful, competitive Shiny Pokémon. For more help learning about Ultra Wormholes, scroll up and check out our full Legendary Pokémon guide to see which Pokémon will appear in every type of Wormhole.

We will go over good team compositions, strategies to properly weaken the Pokémon so that you can catch it as well as a strategy for catching them in the coveted Beast Balls.

link Traversing the Ultra Wormhole

You can travel through the Ultra Wormhole at the  Altar of Sunne/Moone on Poni Island depending on the version of the game you have. This becomes available once you've gone to Ultra Megalololis for the first time. You will fly initially on Lunala in Ultra Sun or Solgaleo in Ultra Moon, but you can change this to the one of your choice in Ultra Megalopolis.

The game will also use pure motion controls (which are incredibly difficult to use efficiently) unless you  change them . It is highly recommended that you head to GAME FREAK's building in Heahea City and talk to one of the developer characters in their office to switch to the Circle Pad.

It will take some practice, but you'll soon be able to travel long distances to the rare exit wormholes.

link Types of Wormhole Rarity

As you travel through the wormhole, you should notice four different appearances of wormholes. These increase in fanciness with their rarity. Basic wormholes have no "halos," the next rarest will have a single "halo," the third will have two "halos," and the rarest will have two "halos" with a type of spiraling energy. The rarest wormholes are  guaranteed to have legendary Pokémon (until you have caught all of them with that color), though technically all wormholes can contain them.

The rarer the wormhole, the higher the chance of rare Pokémon. What follows is a table detailing the chances of finding these various types after certain distances.

link Colors of Wormholes

A later section details which legendaries you can find in these different wormholes.

link Non-legendary Shiny Pokémon

Regular Pokémon have a chance of being shiny when you enter a wormhole. The further you go, the higher the chance the Pokémon is shiny. There is a nifty little formula that determines the odds of a shiny encounter based on distance and wormhole rarity:

Though, for Wormhole Type 1, the odds are always 1% regardless of distance. Here are the values for the other types of wormholes:

Due to that min function, there is a cap to the shiny rate for these wormholes. For type 1, the maximum chance is 1%. For type 2, the maximum chance is 10%. For type 3, the maximum chance is 19%. And for type 4, the maximum chance is 36%. This is a great way to get some shiny Pokémon (though the encounter tables are very limited).

When you enter a wormhole, it is highly recommended that you save . If Pokémon that you encounter is shiny, then it is always shiny. This means that you can soft-reset for better natures and/or IVs with these shiny Pokémon, if you wish.

link Legendary Shiny Pokémon

You can then soft reset after encountering the Pokémon to see if it is shiny.

link Strategies for Soft Resetting

Here are a few useful techniques to optimize your time while soft resetting for the Pokémon you desire.

link How to Save Before Encountering

That’s over 16 wasted minutes that could have gone into more encounters!

link The Soft Reset Button Combination

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have a built in button combination that resets the game. Instead of pressing the home button, closing the game, and then relaunching the game, you can press L + R + Start/Select (you can do either Start or Select). This will immediately throw you back to the title screen and you can relaunch your save file.

link Using Rubber Bands and Paper Clips

When using the soft reset button combination, you can use rubber bands and paper clips to make it easier to soft reset while watching TV or doing some other activity.

Before starting, make sure you’ve entered the game ready to encounter the Pokémon. Take a large rubber band (which you can find in the office supply section of most stores) and wrap it around your 3DS so that it is holding the L and R buttons down. Then, you can bend a paper clip to keep the Circle Pad holding up.

With that set up, you just need to press A twice when you see the title screen to enter the game. Once you encounter the Pokémon and need to reset the game, you can just press the Start button.

It is recommended that for this method you do not have the L = A option set. It seems to interfere with the button combination for soft resetting.

link Strategies for Weakening Pokémon

A more in-depth guide will be published soon with this information.

link Beast Balls

The next section will detail a basic version of the “Trevenant Leppa Berry” Method for how to keep a Pokémon from struggling itself to death while you throw an immense amount of Beast Balls.

link The Trevenant Leppa Berry Method

Thus, it should never struggle itself to death and you can throw as many Poké Balls as you need.

link Legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beasts In Each Wormhole Type

This section details what Pokémon are available in each of the colored wormholes. Please note that for all colors but White, some Pokémon require having certain party members. Those are listed in the “Requirements” column of each table.

link White Wormhole

The White Wormholes will always have an Ultra Beast within (unless you are taken to the City). The first time you encounter them, there is a rather long cutscene that plays, so it is recommended that you encounter it, catch it, then find the hole again for shiny hunting. Ultra Beasts can be found an unlimited number of times.

What is an Ultra Wormhole in Pokémon Go? Explained

Image of Kristina Ebanez

The cosmic Ultra Space has transcended into our world, clashing into various Pokémon battles through mysterious portals. But what exactly are the Ultra Wormholes in Pokémon Go ? Here’s what you need to know about this other realm.

Pokémon Go Ultra Wormhole, explained

The Ultra Wormholes are portals that unleash Ultra Beasts , appearing during Gym Raids. Ultra Beasts are incredibly powerful, relatively matching the strength of the robust Legendaries and Mythicals. The wormhole temporarily connects their home base, Ultra Space, to our universe.

Ultra Wormhole in Pokemon Go

Raid schedules tie into which Ultra Beast spawns, so you won’t always encounter the same one. Whatever the case may be, make sure to prepare for a brutal fight with a formidable team. It’s an excellent idea to get some help from other trainers, too, just in case things go south.

Where to find Ultra Wormholes in Pokémon Go

To locate an Ultra Wormhole in Pokémon Go , check the Nearby Pokémon section and select Raid. If there is one available, you should see a wormhole icon.

Ultra Wormhole in Pokemon Go

Go to the corresponding area and interact with the Gym. The Ultra Wormhole should appear, showcasing a countdown of its opening. Depending on the current duration, the Ultra Beast may take a while to arrive.

How to catch Ultra Beasts in Pokémon Go

Now that you know how to find Ultra Beasts, it’s time to battle! Collaborating with other trainers is probably the best way to go, as the Pokémon here can be a lot to deal with alone. However, if you feel reasonably confident with your team, you’re welcome to try it out solo.

Once the fight ends, you’ll be provided a Beast Ball to capture the Ultra Beast. To get them on your side, they’ll likely require some berries.

All Ultra Beasts in Pokémon Go

The following Ultra Beasts are currently available in Pokémon Go :

As mentioned before, the Ultra Wormhole will only release one of these Ultra Beasts based on the current Raid schedule. More creatures are also expected to come in Pokémon Go , including Naganadel, Stakataka, and Blacephalon.
