Barenaked Ladies set list

Way back in September 2023, Barenaked Ladies played a gig in Cincinnati.

Here’s what they performed that night, courtesy of Set List FM .

01.) “It’s All Been Done” 02.) “The Old Apartment” 03.) “One Night” 04.) “Ad Lib / Shake it Off” 05.) “Gonna Walk” 06.) “Just Wait” 07.) “Lookin’ Up” 08.) “Big Back Yard” 09.) “Pinch Me” 10.) “Hello City” 11.) “Blame It on Me” 12.) “The Township of King” 13.) “Brian Wilson” 14.) “Lovin’ Life” 15.) “Odds Are” 16.) “Big Bang Theory Theme” 17.) “One Week” 18.) “If I Had $1000000” 19.) “If You Could Read My Mind / As It Was / Flowers / Take On Me / Climb Ev’ry Mountain / So Long, Farewell” 20.) “Rock of Ages” (Def Leppard cover)

21.) “Too Old”

Barenaked Ladies new music

Good vibes, welcome.

On Sept. 15, 2023, BNL dropped their 14th album “In Flight.”

Comprised of 14 tracks, the record is an impressive mixture of upbeat singles like “Lovin’ Life” and “One Night” as well as melancholy pop ballads “Enough Time” and “Just Wait.”

Personally, we fell hardest for the lovely “Waning Moon” with its lilting instrumentals and longing lyrics like “The clouds are high and they’re wispy/Just enough to make you miss me.”

They also reckon with their newfound elder statesman status as evidenced in “Fifty For A While” and “Too Old.”

Most importantly, don’t sleep on the gorgeously arranged “Wake Up,” either.

It sounds unlike anything else on the superb record.

Want to hear for yourself? You can find “In Flight” here .

Toad The Wet Sprocket

At all gigs, BNL will be joined by the always welcome Toad The Wet Sprocket.

Casual fans may know them from their instantly recognizable ’90s radio staple “All I Want.”

However, if you dig deeper you’ll find bangers like “Walk On The Ocean,” “Fall Down” and “Something’s Always Wrong.”

Want to dive into their discography? Check out Toad The Wet Sprocket’s music here .

While the fate of Stephen Merchant ‘s “ Hello Ladies ” remains in the hands of HBO,  which has yet to renew the show, it’s easy to see why they got in business with the comedian/actor/writer/director in the first place. He’s a longtime collaborator with Ricky Gervais , and the pair already have had two underrated shows hit the network —” Life’s Too Short ” and the animated “ Ricky Gervais Show “— and given their track records (“ The Office ,” “ Extras “) it doesn’t seem to be too much of a risk to see what Merchant can cook up on his own. On the face of it, a comedy about a single Englishman living in Los Angeles trying to find love is ripe with possibility. But as I wrote in my preview of the series in September after watching the first two episodes sent to press, the result was “ cartoonish and empty ” and little has changed with the season one wrapping up last night. (Obviously, spoilers ahead ).

While cringe-worthy comedy has been the expert domain of both Merchant and Gervais, David Brent and Andy Millman were also well drawn characters with a core of humanity that made them sympathetic even at their most repugnant. But after eight episodes, it’s unclear why we should feel anything for Stuart Pritchard, a situation not helped by his rather thin characterization. He’s a modestly successful web designer who chases women far out of his league and is most often motivated by looks rather than personality, clearly evidenced when he begins a fledgling relationship in the latter part of the season with the beautiful but dim model Kimberly (played by Heather Hahn , who you might remember was mocked in “ Bruno “ ). But the character and Merchant never deviate from that one single note. Devoid of anything resembling a backstory, Stuart is an unchanging, 6’ 7” tower of ineptitude which certainly provides comedic highlights, but nothing on the level of Merchant’s previous TV creations.

This issue of Stuart’s one-dimensionality becomes more apparent when the supporting characters of “Hello Ladies” are granted bigger emotional arcs to play against. Stuart’s tenant/friend Jessica ( Christine Woods ) struggles to make it as an actress and writes and directs her own web series, while caught up in a professional-with-benefits relationship with her agent Glenn ( Sean Wing ) and a competitive battle royale with her frenemy Amelia (a solid Jenny Slate ). Just when things are at their lowest, she manages to nab a lead role on “ NCIS: Los Angeles ,” a potentially life and career changing gig….only to swiftly lose it after one week, due to poor testing. This is rich comedic and dramatic stuff and Woods makes the most of it. And  Nate Torrence  strongly enacts the tough road facing his character Wade, Stuart’s best friend who is trying to navigate a bruising divorce with a wife he still loves deeply. When he makes the decision in the final episode of the season to finally remove his wife’s picture from his phone, it’s a touching moment, one that closes the loop on one chapter of his life, while tentatively opening the door to a new one. If only Merchant had the opportunity to stretch Stuart in the same ways as well.

Instead, most of the eight episode first season are comprised of repeated riffs where Stuart finds ways to trip himself up in various social settings. In “ The Date ,” Stuart’s outing with gym counter girl Annie ( Lindsey Broad ) —a woman who actually likes him— at an expensive restaurant reveals him to be a cheapskate or nearly broke as he continually maneuvers to order the cheapest items on the menu. (A side issue of the show is that Stuart’s financial situation is never made clear, as he lives and works from his gorgeous home but never seems to have any money..is he a skinflint or genuinely, perpetually broke?). He then completely derails the possibility of any relationship potential by stalking Annie after their second date, in order to find out who she had been texting the entire time. In “ Pool Party ,” Stuart manages to get himself barred from his own exclusive, model filled bash after leaving early, convinced no one of worth would show up. Finally, in “ Long Beach ,” one of the season’s most wackily improbable scenarios, Stuart goes on a terrifying roadtrip in search of easy women with the tough, macho men renovating the roof of his guest house.

Again, conceptually at least, there is territory that could be fresh, but the writing team of Merchant,  Lee Eisenberg  and  Gene Stupnitsky  have nothing fresh to bring the table. A running gag in “The Date,” which finds Stuart explaining to his employee Rory ( Kyle Mooney ) his strategy for texting Annie, feels like a tired update on when to call a girl from “ Swingers .” Whether you like “ Girls ” or not, it has radically redefined the boundaries where shows about relationships, sex and dating can go, making Stuart’s mild transgressions feel positively quaint in “Hello Ladies” (meanwhile, the showbiz world elements revolving around Jessica are simply “ Entourage “-lite). In fact, one wonders why it’s on HBO at all, as the unadventurous nature of the material seems far more suited to network television. In fact, if the few instances of swearing and nudity were to be cut, it could easily fit right alongside shows like “ How I Met Your Mother ” or “ New Girl ” in prime time.

Between this series and stints in the films like “ Hall Pass ” and “ I Give It A Year ,” Merchant has navigated a career outside of his association with Gervais with mixed success. He’s undoubtedly a gifted writer, but the intelligence and surprising complexity he’s shown in that capacity have yet to be translated to the characters he plays onscreen, which are usually variations on “awkward” and “socially inept” with but contain little depth. So it goes with Stuart Pritchard, a superficial, horny, single man trying to bed the kind of women who appear in magazines in the socially cutthroat world of Los Angeles, where status is everything. But what’s so special and unique about his situation versus any other man in the sea of singles trying to land a big fish? “Hello Ladies” has yet to the make case, and if it does manage a second season, here’s hoping Merchant and company give us a reason to care about Stuart’s romantic woes beyond being mildly diverting for thirty minutes. welcome to my room {pastel bedroom tour}

Jan. 20, 2023

Hello, my friends!

Ahh, I am so excited about this post. My room has been in the works for months now, with little random projects being finished early in December. But it’s finally finished and ahh, I am so happy with how it turned out! It’s so. . . well, me, haha, and I love it. <3 And I think you guys will, too! After sharing a room with three sisters for my entire life, having my own space felt so weird at first, but so nice! 🙂

If you are redecorating your room, or just want some ideas to refresh your space, this post is for you!

hello ladies my room tour

Welcome to my room. . .

hello ladies my room tour

When you step in, on your left is my dresser.

hello ladies my room tour

I cut the hydrangeas in early November, and I love the way they brighten up my room; I love hydrangeas way more when they dry than when they were first picked, what do you think? I also have a gorgeous jewelry box from my aunt, a succulent, and a little heart-shaped box. I always have a wreath above, it changes each season, but I love this simple cedar wreath.

hello ladies my room tour

My mom had the lovely idea to put these mini close pins with photos attached across the mirror. I wasn’t sure how I felt at first, but I love it now!

hello ladies my room tour

Across the room from my dresser is my nightstand and bookshelf.

hello ladies my room tour

On my nightstand/dresser sits my basket of books which holds my Bible, prayer journal, bullet journal , two books I’m currently reading ( Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli and Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer), my line a day journal, and highlighters for Bible reading. Next to it holds two succulents , a tiny but lovely blue notebook that has my initals on it, and a few other souvenirs. The drawers hold extra notebooks, washi tape, and a few other random things.

hello ladies my room tour

Isn’t my yellow alarm clock wonderful? I love it, haha. Well, maybe I don’t feel that way when it wakes me up at 6am, but during the day, it’s one of my favorite things in my room! It’s so cheery and yellow.

hello ladies my room tour

Next to my nightstand sits my bookshelf which is really an antique crate that my Dad found when he was cleaning out a house years ago, and my mom had the idea to use it as a shelf. I have more books that are in my cabinet above, but these are my favorites or ones that I want to read next. The shelves are quite filled because I have wayyy too many books I want to read or favorites, haha.

hello ladies my room tour

I was given this houseplant (anyone know what kind it is?) sometime last summer, and honestly, I’m surprised it’s still alive. It looks a bit rough, but I’m hoping if I take good enough care of it, it’ll continue surviving!

hello ladies my room tour

This is my bed, clearly, haha. Originially, I had a quilt my grandma gave me, but I liked the way the white comforter is so bright, clean, and fresh.

  • Fuzzy throw blanket
  • Yellow sheet and pillowcase set

hello ladies my room tour

I love the pop of color these pillows add to my room! (I couldn’t find the exactly pillows I have, but I linked to ones that are similar.)

hello ladies my room tour

I got this set of waterfall lights to hang over my bed, and ahh, they add such a cozy atmosphere to the whole room, and they are so pretty at night.

hello ladies my room tour

Next, I’ll show you my desk. I don’t actually know where we got the desk, other than it was Malachi’s before it was mine. 😛

hello ladies my room tour

Above it, on these lovely shelves, I have a few cute signs, more succulents, a light-up letter P, and a chalkboard.

hello ladies my room tour

Below that, I have my bulletin board and photo holder. My bulletin board holds hand-lettered quotes & Bible verses from my penpals/friends Eva and Kate, a frog with a Santa clause hat drawn by my friend Duncan, and to-do lists written on sticky notes. On my photo sign, I have a few wintery photos I’ve taken over the past two months.

hello ladies my room tour

I don’t know if this part will be terribly interesting or terribly boring, but here’s what I have in my desk drawers, haha. In the first two, I have normal pens, brush pens, Midliners, a cute set of office supplies, glue, scissors, and a ruler. In the next one, I have tape, lots of sticky notes, more pens, extra notebooks that I use for small to-do lists, and a handy container of paper and binder clips.

hello ladies my room tour

In my last two drawers, I have Crayola markers, watercolors, artist pastels, paint brushes, and watercolor pencils. And then, what I consider to be my pen pal-ing drawer! This holds my stationary set, wax seal kit , letters to be replied to, stickers, photo prints, and stamps.

hello ladies my room tour

Next to my desk is another antique crate. 🙂 On this sits a jar that holds my Micron pens and pencils, even more succulents, and normally, my waterbottle.

hello ladies my room tour

On the ‘shelves’, in the white baskets holds my art journal, a few random sketchbooks, and to-do lists. On the bottom shelf is where my camera gear is stored: extra lenses, tripod, charger, cord for importing photos to my laptop, and a variety of other things.

hello ladies my room tour

All of the walls in our house our white, and since I love the way it makes everything fresh and spacious, plus I wasn’t wanting to repaint the whole room. 😛 If you use pops of color in other places, it can really give you a bright and airy room!

hello ladies my room tour

I can’t finish this post without a before and after picture, can I? This picture was taken before we moved in (the people we bought in from didn’t clean it out whatsoever. :P), and this is how it looks currently. Quite the change for the better, right? At least, I think so. 😀

hello ladies my room tour

Here I am, sitting at my nice new desk with my laptop, working on editing photos for this post in my nice new room. I’m actually typing this post right now at my desk, with my twinkle lights on and watching the snow fall. <3

hello ladies my room tour

And that, my friends, shall conclude this extremely long room tour. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! I love having such a bright and airy bedroom to relax and work in.

Hopefully, this tour gave you some inspiration if you’re looking to redecorate or repaint your own room, and some encouragement that white walls don’t have to be boring and can really be wonderful! If you enjoyed this post, I’d be so appreciative if you’d pin it on Pinterest and share it with others!

What is your favorite part of my room? What is your favorite part of your room? Have you ever redecorated your room / space?

Thank you so much for reading, my friends, and have a beautiful day!

Ooooooh! I love your room so much! It’s so you! I love your desk space and your dresser the best or maybe your bed! I actually just got my own bedroom and we redecorated everything. We even repainted. Now I have a white bedroom with pretty purple/gray along the top. And some flower wall stickers up in a top corner. It’s my perfect space! (Also I agree! White rooms with splashes of color are perfect! I have the only room painted white in the house. But I feel like it makes it look more organized and clean and also very spacious)

Ooh I love your room Pearl! I like the light and airy vibe, with little pops of color to add a little something else. If I didn’t share a room, I would certainly redo it, but yours is just SO PRETTY!! Thanks for sharing!

January 21, 2023 at 9:03 pm

Even if you share a room, you can definitely add some personalization to your space, as long as your roommate agrees; I have 13 years of experience behind me of sharing a room, so I get it’s tough at times. I’m so glad you enjoyed this post!

Ahhhh, your room is SO cute! I love all the pops of color. 😍 My sister, who I share a room with, is planning to move out sometime this year, so it’s time for me to start thinking about how I want to fix up the room to fit me. You gave me some inspiration!

Aw, that is so fun; I’m so glad I inspired you!
