  • Do Egyptians Need A Visa To Visit The UK?

Egyptian citizens who wish to travel to the UK will need a Standard Visitor Visa to do so, as they will not be able to get a visa on arrival. These visas are tailored for short trips to the UK and allow the visa holder to do many activities in the country.

Standard Visitor Visas cater to tourists, those travelling for business, and those who are visiting friends and family. The application process for this visa includes the application for the visa and attending an appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre or British Embassy.

The appointment is for the applicant to provide their biometric data, submit documents, and, in some cases, attend an interview. Children from Egypt will need their own visas and passports to enter the UK. Parents or legal guardians of these children should be aware they will be responsible for the application for the child.

Benefits Of Standard Visitor Visa For Egyptians

Egyptian travellers will find that the Standard Visitor Visa provides a vast array of travel benefits, which makes it the ideal choice for UK journeys. This visa allows travellers to travel to the UK for many purposes, including:

Permitted Paid Engagement Visitor Visa

The PPE (Permitted Paid Engagement) Visit Visa is a visa type open to specific professionals and experts who intend on visiting the UK for up to a month to undertake paid engagements relative to their occupation and expertise.

For an individual to apply for a UK Visitor visa, they must meet the relevant eligibility requirements. These individuals must have a passport or travel document to be able to enter the country. The travel document or passport should also be valid for the entire duration of the applicant’s stay in the country.

As well as this, applicants must be able to show the following:

  • The applicant must be able to show that they will leave the UK at the end of their visit.
  • The applicant must be able to prove that they can support themselves and any of their dependents for the duration of their trip. Alternatively, if they have funding from someone else to support their stay, this must be shown.
  • The applicant must be able to show that they can pay for their return or their onward journey. Alternatively, if the applicant is being funded by someone else, it must be shown they are supported by this individual for their return journey.
  • The applicant must show that they will not live in the UK for extended periods by making successive or frequent visits to the country, and they will not make the UK their main home.

On top of these requirements, an applicant may be required to meet additional eligibility requirements if they are visiting the UK for any of the following reasons:

  • Studies, completing a placement, or taking an exam.
  • Entering the UK as an academic, a dentist, or as a senior doctor.
  • Entering the UK for medical reasons.

Required Documents

To have a smooth visa application process, the UK government required specific documentation to be provided to demonstrate the applicant’s eligibility and travel purposes. Applicants will need to complete an online visa process, but they will also need to gather supporting documents for their application.

Those applying for a UK Visitor Visa should prepare the following documents for their application:

  • A valid passport. The applicant’s Egyptian passport will need to be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the intended date of arrival in the UK.
  • A completed application. Applicants need to fill out the visa application form completely and accurately.
  • Proof of financial sustainability. There is no specific amount of money that an applicant must have, but there is a requirement that the applicant provide document-based evidence to show they can cover the costs of their trip by providing financial documents such as bank statements.
  • Itinerary: Applicants must provide a detailed trip plan, including the purpose of their travel, their accommodation, dates they will be travelling, and planned activities in the UK. If the applicant is being hosted by someone else (such as friends or family), then an invitation letter from the host may be relevant here.
  • Payment. Applicants can pay the total visa fee when making their application on the government website. Proof of payment is necessary for UK visas.
  • Disclosure of any offences. Applicants are required to declare any civil, criminal, or immigration offences they have committed. Additional documents may be required based on the circumstances of the individual.

Applicants can apply for a Standard Visitor Visa; however, if they visit the UK regularly, a long-term Standard Visitor Visa may be more relevant. It is necessary to understand which visa type is most relevant for you, as different types of visas will have different fees and different validity periods.

  • Standard Visitor Visas cost £115 and are valid for up to 6 months.
  • A Standard Visitor Visa for medical reasons will cost £200 and is valid for up to 11 months.
  • A Standard Visitor Visa for academics will cost £200 and is valid for 12 months.
  • A 2-year long-term Standard Visitor Visa will cost £400 and will enable 6 months per visit.
  • A 5-year long-term Standard Visitor Visa will cost £771 and allow for 6 months per visit.
  • A 10-year long-term Standard Visitor Visa will cost £963 and allow for 6 months per visit.

Applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa is one of the easiest visa types to apply for; it is a fairly straightforward process. There are three simple steps to applying for this type of visa.

  • The first step is to go to the UK government website for Standard Visitor Visa applications and start an application form. This form does not need to be completed in one sitting; it can be saved and completed later. Those who are applying with family members will need to note that each family member will need to have their own application and pay the fee.
  • Once the application form is completed, submit it and arrange an appointment at a Visa Application Centre. Each person travelling will need to attend their appointment.
  • After the appointment and application have been completed, the applicant must wait for a decision to be made on their application

Once an applicant has applied and proven their identity, they will typically get a decision on their visa within 3 weeks. It is possible, in some cases, to get a decision faster; however, this does come at an extra fee and is not available in every case.

When a decision is made, the applicant will receive an email or a letter informing them of the decision on the application as well as the next steps for them.

It may be possible for an applicant to extend their stay in the UK on a Visitor Visa. If the applicant has permission to be in the UK for under 6 months, they can extend their stay for up to 6 months.

Some applicants may be able to apply for an extension for over 6 months; however, this is only possible in specific situations. This includes the following:

  • Patients who are receiving private medical treatment in the UK.
  • Academics who still meet eligibility requirements.
  • Graduates who are retaking the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board test or who are doing a clinical attachment.

Those who are applying to extend their stay must pay the £1,000 fee to do so, regardless of nationality. It is also critical that the applicants apply for this extension while they are still in the UK and before their current visa expires.

Those listed above who need to extend beyond 6 months can do so but will need to provide documents specific to their situation. For example, those receiving medical treatment will need to have a medical practitioner provide details of the condition that requires further treatment.

Academics will need to prove their field of expertise and occupation overseas before UK travel and that they are not filling a permanent teaching job.

There are specific activities that are allowed and are not allowed on a UK Visitor Visa. These include the following:

Permitted Activities

  • Can be used for holidays or vacations.
  • Can be used to visit family or friends.
  • For volunteering activities for up to 30 days with a registered charity.
  • To pass through the UK in transit to another country.
  • For specific business activities such as attending interviews or meetings.
  • For school exchange programmes.
  • For studies, placements, or to do an exam.
  • For senior doctors, academics, or dentists.
  • For medical reasons.

Non-Permitted Activities

  • You can’t do any unpaid work for UK companies or as a self-employed individual.
  • You cannot claim benefits or any other public funding.
  • You cannot live in the UK for a long period of time through successive or frequent visits.
  • You cannot marry, register a civil partnership, or give notice of a marriage or a civil partnership. This requires a marriage visitor visa.

Those who wish to apply for a visa for a short-term visit to the UK will need to apply for the correct type of Visit Visa. These applications are fairly simple, but understanding which visa applies to you can be tricky. This is why it is a good idea to speak to an immigration expert before applying.

Do you need a visa to go to Egypt?

Almost all travelers require a visa to enter Egypt, but fortunately, the process is pretty simple, and a little advance planning goes a long way.

This guide will walk you through the entry requirements for visiting the land of pyramids on a tourist visa.

Who needs a visa to visit Egypt?

Most nationalities need a visa to enter Egypt, but citizens of many countries can apply for an e-Visa in advance or obtain a visa on arrival at Egypt’s international airports. Both cost US$25.

Getting an e-Visa is generally a smoother process than getting a visa at the airport. Apply for a tourist visa online in advance on  the Egyptian Government's official e-Visa website . All you have to do is fill out the online application form and pay.

If you decide to get a visa at the airport when you land in Egypt, be prepared to wait in line – bring your own pen to fill out the paperwork in line or on the plane – and pay in cash (US dollars, euros or British pounds only, not Egyptian pounds).

Citizens of Bahrain, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Macau, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can enter Egypt visa-free for up to 90 days. Citizens of Malaysia can enter for up to 14 days.

If you're not eligible to get a visa on arrival or an e-Visa, head to the Egyptian embassy or consulate in your home country and apply in person. The visa process can take several weeks.

How to get an e-Visa for Egypt

To save time, apply for an e-Visa before your trip to Egypt. Citizens of these countries are eligible for Egypt’s e-Visa and can apply on the Egyptian government's official website . Your passport must be valid for at least six months before the date you intend to arrive.

The process is simple: sign up for an account, fill the form and pay the US$25 using a credit or debit card. You’ll receive email notifications as the application is processed.

If you’re issued a visa, you’ll be emailed a link to your e-Visa to download and print the document. When you land in Egypt, present the e-Visa to the Egyptian border patrol with your passport. Have a copy of your accommodation details or tour booking in case you’re asked to show them at the airport.

Egypt’s e-Visa can be single or multiple entry. The single-entry visa allows visitors one entry into the country for stays of up to 30 days. The multiple-entry visa allows travelers to come into  Egypt an unlimited number of times over a period of 180 days and for up to 30 days at a time. Apply for a multi-entry visa at least seven days before your trip.

Visa on arrival in Egypt

If you don’t have time to apply for an e-Visa, you can still get a visa on arrival at the airport if you’re eligible. Visas are available for purchase (US$25) at a kiosk in the arrivals hall before the immigration counters.

Have the correct amount in cash in a major foreign currency (US dollars, euros or British pounds) to avoid delays.

The visa comes in the form of a stamp that you’ll need to put into your passport to present at the immigration counters and passport control.

If you opt for a visa on arrival, you’ll need a passport that’s valid for at least six months from your arrival date, a travel itinerary and documentation to show you've booked accommodations or tours.

Visa on arrival is available at all of Egypt’s international airports. The downsides are that you can be issued a single entry visa only, and the lines at the airport can be long.

You don't need a visa to stay in Sinai on short trips

If you are visiting the resort towns on the Gulf of Aqaba coast and won’t be going to mainland Egypt, you can stay in Sinai for 14 days without buying an Egyptian visa. The Sinai-only visa allows travellers to visit Sharm El Sheikh , Dahab , Nuweiba , Taba and St Catherine, but you cannot go to Ras Muhammad National Park.

The Sinai-only visa is available at the airport in Sharm El Sheikh and the Egypt–Israel border crossing at Taba. If you arrive at Taba and plan to visit mainland Egypt, you must purchase a visa online in advance or at an Egyptian embassy abroad.

How long is an Egyptian visa for British citizens valid for?

Egyptian visas for British citizens are valid for entry to Egypt for 3 months (single-entry e-Visas) or 6 months (multiple-entry e-Visas) from the date of issue. They can be used to stay in the country for up to 30 days at a time. British visitors in Egypt are advised against overstaying the allotted time for the visa they have.

No, as with any country, border control officers have the final say on who can enter Egypt. If a visa holder is denied entry, it is likely due to a security issue.

Entering Egypt from Gaza

The Rafah border crossing partially opened on 1 November. This is primarily to facilitate the evacuation of seriously wounded Palestinians and some foreign nationals. We understand that the crossing will continue to be open for controlled and time-limited periods to allow specific groups of foreign nationals, including British nationals, to cross. It is for the Egyptian and Israeli authorities to determine who is permitted to cross, and when. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contact Embassies to let them know when their foreign nationals can cross. Should we receive notification from the Israeli and Egyptian authorities that individuals are permitted to cross, we will notify those people individually.

Movement to the Rafah crossing and beyond is at your own risk. You should only travel if you judge it is safe to do so. Check the  Israel and The Occupied Palestinian Territories travel advice.

How to Get a Visa for Egypt as a UK Citizen – Tips for Avoiding Mistakes!

If you’re wondering about a simple way how to get a visa for Egypt as a UK citizen, you’ve come to the right place!

I had booked my flights, had reserved my first couple of nights at some hotels, started to book in medical appointments and compose a packing list.

Then it dawned on me. Do I need a Visa for Egypt from the UK?

Sounds funny, but I hadn’t even thought about it. A typical always moving traveller haha.

Although a visa for Egypt seems easy, it’s not hard to make some expensive mistakes. For example, if any of the information on your application form is incorrect, your whole visa could be rejected and your fee could be chucked down the drain!

So, to save you some hassle and answer any questions you may have, I’m going to run through all the steps in acquiring your visa for Egypt from the UK. Yalla!

places to visit in cairo

Do I need to get a visa for Egypt and do I need to get it before I leave UK?

Yes, all citizens from the UK will need to apply for a visa before they visit Egypt. Although in the past Sharm El Sheikh was exempt from visa fees, the UK doesn’t directly fly there anymore.

So, it’s safe to say you will need a tourist visa to visit Egypt regardless .

There are two options in securing your Egyptian visa:

  • On arrival at the immigration counter
  • Apply before hand for an e-visa via Visa2Egypt

This all depends on how long you’re staying and how much time you have to prepare beforehand!

For example, if you’re planning multiple trips to Egypt i.e. Egypt > Jordan > Egypt like me, I would apply for the multiple entry Visa beforehand to save any complications.

Egypt Visa on arrival vs. Egypt Visa before you travel

There are pros and cons for both getting a visa for Egypt beforehand and on arrival:

Visa on Arrival:

  • Allows you flexibility and not have to apply before hand.
  • It’s slightly cheaper and avoids admin fees
  • You need US Dollars cash at hand to buy the Visa
  • You need to queue at the immigration counter and it could take a long time which, especially after a long flight, could be annoying

e-Visa beforehand via Visa2Egypt:

  • Allows you to buy a single or multiple entry Visa beforehand
  • Saves queueing on arrival and time after your flight
  • You can pay via credit or debit card
  • It’s slightly more expensive and includes admin fees
  • If any information is incorrect on the form you could have it rejected and need to reapply

How long can I stay in Egypt with a tourist visa?

This depends on what type of Visa you have bought:

  • Single Entry Visas are valid for 6 months and allow a maximum stay of 60 days in Egypt.
  • Multiple Entry Visas are valid for 6 months and allow a maximum stay of 90 days in Egypt.
  • A multiple entry visa is valid for one individual passport, and allows the applicant to travel more than once to Egypt, within the 6 months validity.

How much is a Visa to Egypt from UK?

There are different prices for each service and for each type of Visa:

  • For an on arrival Visa in Egypt the price is $25 USD in Cash
  • For an e-Visa beforehand via Visa2Egypt the prices are $25 USD for a single entry visa or $60 USD for a multiple entry visa :

Step by step instructions on how to get a Visa for Egypt as a UK citizen via Visa2Egypt

So, if you’ve chosen to go with an e-Visa beforehand via Visa2Egypt, let’s go through some instructions on how to apply and make sure your application is mistake-free.

Learning the hard way, I made some mistakes on my first e-visa application attempt. I don’t want this to happen to you!

So, bringing my experience to the table, let’s go through together step by step.

1. Visit Visa2Egypt.gov.eg and click ‘Apply now’

First things first, make sure you apply only via the Visa2Egypt portal .

There are other companies that run a service for you, but to ensure that you’re in the right place and you won’t get scammed only apply via this link.

Once you’re on the home page click ‘Apply Now’ in the top bar or the ‘Get your E-visa now’ button.

2. Sign up for an account and then apply via the application form

You will need to sign up for an account via Visa2Egypt to apply for your e-Visa.

It’s a short form, so should only take a minute or two to set up. Make sure to keep a note of your password as you will need this again to access your e-Visa once it’s approved.

how to get a visa for egypt as a uk citizen

Once you have verified your email address and set up your account. You will need to apply via the e-visa portal by accessing the application form. You can do this by clicking on ‘Create new application’:

Next, fill in all the information as best as you possibly can. There are a few things to note when you’re filling in your application.

Travelling information:

  • You don’t need to have your flights booked beforehand, but it’s good to know when you expect to arrive and depart in Egypt

Passport information:

  • Make sure you include all your names, first, middle and last
  • You will need a copy of your passport to apply. If you don’t have a scanner, a picture via your phone will do. Or, use an app called PDF scanner to help .

Host information for Egypt Visa:

  • If you’re not going on a tour in Egypt and you’re a solo traveller like I was, put in the name of your hotel of where you’re staying in Cairo. You need the Host name, phone number, email and address which should be easy to acquire from your hotel booking site.

3. Once the Egypt visa application form is filled in, enter your card details into the payment gateway and you’re all set

Once you’ve filled in all your information, make sure you go over it again and check everything is correct . Remember, you don’t want your Visa to be rejected!

Then, once you’re happy, you need to submit your card details for payment on the Visa2Egypt website. This shouldn’t take long and you will receive confirmation that they have accepted your Visa application.

How long is the Egypt Visa processing time? How long should I leave it before I apply for my Egyptian visa?

You will need to apply for an e-visa at least 7 days before your arrival in Egypt .

So, if it’s after this time, don’t panic I would just wait to get one on arrival.

The visa processing time via Visa2Egypt should only take one or two days to be approved.

You will find an email in your inbox providing you with a link to access the e-visa via the Visa2Egypt portal. Make sure you print a copy for your arrival at the border to present to immigration.

how to get a visa for egypt as a uk citizen

What to do if your Egypt visa has been rejected?

Most of the time, it will be due to human error i.e. some incorrect information that has been filled in on the application form.

For example, mine was rejected the first time due to me not putting all my names first & middle on the form. D’oh!! facepalm

I can see this must be a common mistake though as now on the application form it has a little caption telling you to do this. When I applied last year it did not.

If your application is rejected, don’t worry. Just read the instructions on how to make it right.

Luckily, I wasn’t charged twice for resubmitting my form. But, lesson learned: make sure you check everything thoroughly before you hit submit!

Do I need a Visa to go to Hurghada in Egypt?

Yes, you will need a visa for Egypt to visit Hurghada. In fact, it’s better this way as you can then visit the historic cities of Luxor and Aswan if that’s your thing! Tours can be organised from your hotel when you get there.

If you’re only visiting Sharm El Sheikh or Taba, you won’t need a visa.

Now, let’s get planning your trip to Egypt!

So, that’s how to get a visa for Egypt as a UK citizen. See? It’s not so bad!

Egypt is one of the most amazing countries I have visited in my entire life. It’s like a historic playground and every city has something unique to offer you.

I travelled six weeks here, mostly solo, so I now know my way around quite well. I’m so excited to kick off my Egypt blog series and share all my information with you.

how to get a visa for egypt as a UK citizen

Friday 1st of September 2023

As someone who has lived here for 15 years and travels back to the UK once or twice a year to see family, I would like to make the following comment.

You do NOT need to pay in US$, you can pay in another hard currency (Euro, GPB) the equivalent amount.

The on-arrival visa is valid for 30 days with a 10 day grace if you visit the visa office.

If you wish to apply for a longer term visa, you cannot do so before the final few days of the visa's validity and will be told to come back again.

As of this week, you must also pay for the longer term visa in hard currency, not EGP, or prove that you have transferred the funds to Egypt in order to pay for it (eg. ATM withdrawal slip).

Saturday 6th of May 2023

Thanks so much for the helpful info. I will be traveling in Israel first and crossing at the Taba border and then taking a bus to Cairo. I know the date I will cross the border plus or minus a couple days depending on how long I stay in Israel. Will I need to give an exact arrival date on the eVisa application, or can I just give the earliest date I might arrive? I hope my visa doesn't become invalid if I don't enter on the exact arrival date.

Wednesday 28th of June 2023

I would urge you to check the rules on the Visa2Egypt website. I got a airport visa coming in by plane. I'm not sure on land visas. But, usually, visa entries are granted for a certain period of time. Eg. if you got your visa for 30 days approved before you left you should be able to use it within the validity dates. But, ALWAYS check on the website for the latest requirements before you go as you don't want to be rejected at the border. Hope this helps, Sophie x

Hi great info thanks. I plan to go to Sharm for 29 days so need a visa but only plan to pre-book my first nights accommodation then move around finding places to stay as I go. My question is do you know if I need accommodation bookings for the whole trip to get the visa online. Also do I need this information for visa on arrival. Thanks Kirsty

Hi Kirsty, no you don't need bookings for the duration of your stay. I did the same thing as you and had my first nights booked then booked hotels on the fly! Hope this helps, Sophie x

Do you need a visa for Egypt?

Group walking into the entrance of one of the pyramids on a clear sunny day, Cairo, Egypt

The short answer is yes; foreign nationals from most countries - bar 10 - must obtain a visa before travelling to Egypt. For most nationalities, organising a visa for Egypt  can be done on arrival at Cairo International Airport or online via the Egyptian government's official e-visa portal. This includes citizens of Australia , New Zealand , the EU and the USA *. If you're not eligible to apply for a visa online, you'll need to do so through your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate.

A single entry visa is valid for three months from the date of issue and entitles the bearer to one month of travel in Egypt. If you're from a country that doesn't require a visa before travel, such as Bahrain, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon, you can stay in Egypt for up to 3 months.

*As of September 3rd, Canadians can no longer apply for a visa on arrival and will have to obtain an e-visa before travelling.

If you wish to obtain your visa on arrival at Cairo Airport:

  • Purchase the visa at an approved bank kiosk within the arrivals hall before proceeding to the immigration counters.
  • You will be given a stamp to put on your passport.
  • Proceed to the immigration counters and a passport control official. Here, you must present your stamped passport with at least six months validity after arrival, a travel itinerary and documentation outlining accommodation and tour bookings.

Visas on arrival can be purchased in US dollars, British pounds or euros, and only in cash. Currently, the cost for a single entry tourist visa is equivalent to AUD$38 (USD$25).

  • Go to  visa2egypt.gov.eg . This is Egypt's only official government e-visa portal; however, other websites falsely claim to provide this service, sometimes at double the price.
  • Follow the prompts to sign up, sign in, apply, and pay online. Please note that Egypt e-visas can only be paid for in US dollars or euros. Egyptian pounds are not accepted as a form of payment for e-visas.
  • After your visa application has been processed, you will receive an email updating you on the status of your application.
  • If successful, you will be emailed a link to download your e-visa to present on arrival in Egypt. Passport control officers at Egyptian ports of entry will verify your e-visa on their system.

If you are eligible for an Egypt e-visa, you must create an application at least seven days before arrival. Currently, the cost for a single-entry tourist e-visa is equivalent to AUD$38 (USD $25). On arrival in Egypt, you must present a printout of your e-visa, along with a passport of at least six months validity after your arrival date, a travel itinerary, and documentation outlining accommodation and tour bookings.

The page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain the relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Do I Need a Visa to Visit Egypt from UK?

UK citizens traveling on a British passport need to obtain a valid tourist visa if they wish to visit Egypt. They can however visit the South Sinai Peninsula for up to 15 days without a visa.

Egypt welcomes tens of thousands of tourists from the UK each year. This is hardly surprising considering that Egypt is one of the oldest and most fascinating holiday destinations.

People with a British passport are not faced with a long list of entry requirements. Instead, they only need a valid passport and a visa. Passports must have at least six months validity remaining, as well as at least one blank page. Proof of onward travel may or may not be asked for by immigration officials at Cairo International Airport or any other port of arrival.

Getting your Visa for Egypt

To obtain an Egypt visa, you have three options available to you. Your first option, but also the most inconvenient and most time consuming option would be to apply for visa at an Egyptian embassy. It is best to phone the embassy first to find out what the opening hours are for visa applications, bearing in mind that visa applications are only accepted during certain hours.

Below, you will find the phone numbers, email addresses, and the street address for the Egyptian Embassy in London:

Egypt Visa on Arrival

British nationals and those traveling on a British passport are able to obtain a tourist visa on arrival at any international airport in Egypt. Keep in mind that only 30-day single entry visas are issued on arrival.

If you want to get your visa on arrival, just join the queue at one of the bank kiosks which you will pass on your way to the immigration counters. When it’s your turn, simply fill out the visa application form, show your passport, and pay the visa fee, which at the time of writing was 25 US dollars. You will then be handed a sticker, after which you can make your way to the immigration counters.

Egypt Electronic Visa

UK nationals and those traveling on a British passport are also able to obtain their visa online. Also known as an Egypt e-Visa, this is by far the most convenient option for obtaining an entry visa for Egypt. Egypt’s e-Visa system is well laid out and extremely user-friendly.

To apply for an online visa, you will need to visit the official Egypt e-Visa portal and set up an account. Once you have done that, an email will be sent to the email address you provided, asking you to confirm your account. Once you have confirmed your account, you can then choose which visa you want to apply for.

You can only apply for a standard visitor visa, either a single-entry visa or a multiple entry visa. As of the time of writing, the cost for a single-entry visa was 25 US Dollars, while the cost for multiple entry visas was 60 US dollars. You can pay for your e-Visa fee using any credit card or debit card bearing the Visa or MasterCard logo.

Visa Application Centres

Be wary about using visa application centres in the UK that offer to obtain a valid visa for Egypt on your behalf. They can in fact apply for an online e visa on your behalf, but you will have to pay for the service, and you can rest assured that you are going to pay far more than you need to. Expect to pay anywhere from GBP40 to GBP100. There really isn’t any reason why you should have to fork out this sort of money when you can do everything yourself in a matter of a few minutes.

Transiting Through Egypt

Do I need a visa to visit Egypt as a transit passenger? If your stopover in Egypt is anywhere from 6 to 48 hours, you are free to leave the airport altogether without any need for a visa. This is really good for transit passengers who would like to visit a few attractions in Cairo , such as the Giza Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

The nationals of certain countries can leave the transit area but not the airport, while the citizens of a very small number of countries are also not allowed to leave the transit area at all. UK nationals are free to leave the airport providing they return to the airport within 48 hours of their flight landing.

Egyptian Citizens with Foreign Passports

Do I need a visa to visit Egypt as an Egyptian citizen who will be traveling on a British passport? Egyptian citizens who are traveling on a British passport will be granted a courtesy visa providing they are able to prove their Egyptian citizenship. They can do this by providing an Egyptian passport, an Egyptian identification card, or their Egyptian birth certificate.

Interestingly, British women who are married to Egyptian men can also obtain a courtesy visa providing they can show proof of their marriage.

Ryanair and easyJet warnings to all UK tourists with holidays booked to Egypt

Holidaymakers visiting Egypt have been urged to check their passports before flying and told to expect extra security checks on arrival

Photo shows people queuing for Ryanair at the airport

Holidaymakers visiting Egypt have been warned about several rules that affect UK tourists. Ryanair and easyJet have published guidance for all UK tourists with holidays booked to the country.

Because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, the British government advises against all but essential travel to certain regions along its borders, however the main tourist resorts including Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are all still considered safe for travel.

Egypt's entry rules are different to European countries like Spain and Greece, which require travellers from outside of the EU to have at least three months left on their passports after the date visitors plan to leave until they expire. In Egypt, the rule is six months.

Ryanair shared a reminder to passengers on its website, which reads: "For travel to Egypt, the passport must be valid for at least six months from the arrival date." Brits with less than six months left on their passports will have to renew before they travel to Egypt.

The UK Foreign Office has also issued advice for travellers, which includes information on entry requirements and Egypt's strict customs rules. British holidaymakers might need a visa when visiting Egypt and can apply in advance online via the official Visa2Egypt portal, which is then valid for up to three months, or can do so on arrival at your destination airport at a cost of 25 US dollars, which is the preferred currency, and this visa is valid for 30 days.

The Foreign Office website states: "If you're travelling to Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts for up to 15 days, you will receive a free entry permission stamp on arrival. If you intend to travel out of these areas or stay longer than 15 days, you must get a visa."

The UK government has also warned travellers about strict rules about goods that can be brought in and taken out of Europe. Holidaymakers must declare certain valuables including electrical equipment or video cameras when they arrive. This will be noted in your passport and you may be asked to show these items again when you leave the country.

Meanwhile, easyJet has warned passengers flying from the UK to expect extra security checks when visiting certain countries including Egypt, Morocco and Turkey. The airline said: "Extra security measures currently being applied to flights from Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco and Egypt to the UK.

"The extra checks will be conducted at the gate prior to boarding. There is no requirement to come to the airport earlier than shown on your confirmation email but please make sure you arrive at the gate as soon as your gate is announced.

EasyJet has also advised all passengers that they must go to the bag drop desk before going through security for their return flight home. It said: "Due to local security regulations, all passengers, including passengers with cabin bags only, must go to Bag Drop before going through to security. Due to increased security considerations in Egypt, Jordan and Morocco these regulations are strictly adhered to."

Three Easy Steps For e-Visa

Fill simple Application form which takes only few minute.

Our experts will review and process your application.

Get your e-Visa and Take the next available flight.

The Egypt e-Visa, which is available to British citizens, is the easiest and most convenient option to obtain an Egypt visa.

The Egypt e-Visa and the visa on arrival for British nationals are attainable for short stays in the country. A single-entry visa that is good for thirty days or a multiple-entry visa with a validity of 180 days is obtainable via an e-visa application process.

Egyptian Visa for the UK 2022

The Egyptian government began accepting applications for the Egypt e-Visa from nationals of the United Kingdom in an effort to streamline the application procedure for tourist visas.

The application for an Egypt e-Visa just requires a few minutes to finish and may be obtained in a way that is both speedy and simple by applying for it online.

In order to complete the application, applicants from the United Kingdom need to provide a variety of information and respond to a number of questions. There are questions pertaining to safety, in addition to sections regarding your health and your future travel plans. In addition to that, you will be required to submit personal data such as your full name, permanent address, birth date, and passport details.

How to Get Egypt Visa for the UK?

There are three different routes that one might take in order to obtain a tourist visa for Egypt from the United Kingdom:

E-visa Application for Egypt E-visa

It is strongly recommended that British travelers submit their visa applications online prior to departure. The only requirements for applicants are to fill out the electronic form and pay the associated expenses for the eVisa. They will get an email notification after their Egyptian eVisa has been accepted.

The processing time for an Egypt eVisa is very short; the majority of British applications are granted permission in one to two working days.

Egypt Visa on Arrival for UK Citizens

In the event that holders of a UK passport do not desire to or are unable to complete the eVisa application in advance, they have the option to apply for a visa upon arrival.

Because debit and credit cards will not be accepted at any Egyptian port of entry, tourists from the United Kingdom who choose to apply for a visa upon arrival will be required to pay the application cost in cash, preferably in United States dollars.

It is recommended that travelers from the UK apply online before they depart in order to avoid any delays upon their arrival at the airport.

Egypt Sticker Visa

The application for an eVisa can be completed quickly and easily online, which eliminates the need for British residents to go to a consulate or embassy in person or wait in line to get a visa upon arrival. This is one of the many advantages of applying for an eVisa.

Due to the fact that the entire application procedure is carried out online, it is not essential for the traveler to be physically present in the United Kingdom while they are submitting their application.

To extend their stay beyond 30 days or participate in activities that are not considered tourism, British citizens need to submit an application through the Egyptian embassy.

Egyptian e-Visa: British Citizens' Guide to Getting One

In order to successfully complete the application, it is important to satisfy the requirements for an Egypt visa that are imposed on nationals of the UK. UK applicants must:

·       You need to show that you are a British citizen and that your passport has at least six months left when you enter the country.

·       You can use a credit or debit card to pay the visa fee and finish the online visa application.

·       Fill out the application form completely and to the best of your ability, avoiding any errors or providing information that is not accurate.

To ensure that there is sufficient time for the processing of their Egypt e-Visa application, travelers from the United Kingdom should submit their visa request at least a week before the date they want to arrive in Egypt.

After approval has been given, the Egypt visa for British nationals will be delivered through email. To enter Egypt, visitors must provide the Egyptian officials at the border with both their passport and their electronic visa.

Egypt Business Visa

All non-Egyptian nationals who plan to enter the country for routine business purposes are needed to get a Business Visa. Businesses can apply for a Business E-Visa, a Visa on Arrival, or an Egyptian Embassy or Consulate Business Visa before traveling.

Egypt Transit Visa

In order to visit Egypt for tourism while waiting for their next trip, transit travelers can apply for an Egyptian visa. Even for a short trip, they must meet all entry and visa requirements. Travelers will need a valid passport issued by one of the participating countries in order to apply. The passport needs to have at least half a year's worth of validity left on it.

Egypt is generally safe for tourists, especially when traveling with a reputable tour company or guide. However, it’s always important to exercise caution, be aware of your surroundings, and follow the advice of local authorities.

For long-distance travel, consider taking domestic flights or booking a Nile River cruise. Within cities, taxis and public transportation are affordable and convenient options. Hiring a private driver or tour guide can also make navigating Egypt more comfortable.

While it’s possible to explore some sites independently, booking guided tours in advance can provide invaluable insights and ensure a smoother experience. Guided tours are highly recommended for complex sites like the pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and ancient temples.

It’s important to dress modestly when visiting religious sites or Islamic mosques. Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Women may also want to carry a scarf to cover their heads when entering mosques.

No specific vaccinations are required for most travelers, but it’s always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider before your trip. Ensure your routine vaccinations are up-to-date, and consider getting vaccinated against hepatitis A and typhoid fever. Bringing insect repellent and staying hydrated are also recommended.

Egypt is the land of Pharaohs, huge dunes of fine sand, the pyramids of Gizeh, spectacular beaches, the Nile, the Tomb of Tutankhamen and wonderful cities like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada .

Yes , you need a visa for Egypt if you are British. You can get it in person at an embassy or consulate, on arrival to the country or online. If you are travelling for tourism, we recommend you getting an Egypt visa online using the e-visa system.

It is the best method of getting the visa because it is faster, quicker and will give you the security of having the vital documents before arriving in the country. You will not find nasty surprises once you get to Egypt.

You will only need to fill in a form that will take you less than 5 minutes, upload any required documents and in a matter of hours or few days you will get the visa in your email.

You can choose from a single entry Egypt tourist visa valid for 90 days and which allows you to visit Egypt for stays up to 30 days or the multiple entry eVisa valid for 180 days and which allows you to stay up to 30 days in the country.

If you prefer to get a visa on arrival, you can do so at approved bank kiosks within airport arrival halls, before reaching immigration counters. Middle East latest: Rockets fired towards US military base in Syria as Iraqi armed factions 'resume attacks' on US forces

At least five rockets are launched from the Iraqi town of Zummar towards a US military base in northeastern Syria, security sources tell Reuters. The attack against American forces is the first since February, when Iranian-backed groups in Iraq stopped targeting US troops.

Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah said Iraqi armed groups had decided to resume attacks on US forces in the country.

They blamed the lack of progress in talks aimed at arranging the exit of American troops.

"What happened a short while ago is the beginning," the group said.

They were apparently referring to an earlier incident where at least five rockets were launched from the Iraqi town of Zummar towards a US military base in Syria.

A coalition fighter destroyed the launcher in self defence after reports of a failed rocket attack near the base, a US official said.

It's not clear whether the rockets failed to hit the base or if they had been destroyed before they could reach it.

No US personnel were injured.

Before the Hamas attack inside Israel on 7 October, the Lebanon border area was judged to have enjoyed a relative period of calm and stability.

But that all changed with the events across the border.

Since then Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops have been exchanging more and more serious fire, violating the terms of an earlier agreement contained in the UN Resolution 1701.

Here, our special correspondent Alex Crawford reports from the "Blue Line" in southern Lebanon...

At least five rockets have been fired from Iraq's town of Zummar towards a US military base in northeastern Syria, two Iraqi security sources have told Reuters.

The security sources and a senior army officer said a rocket launcher fixed on the back of a small truck had been parked in Zummar border town with Syria.

The military official said the truck caught fire with an explosion from unfired rockets at the same time as warplanes were in the sky.

The attack against US forces is the first since early February when Iranian-backed groups in Iraq stopped their attacks against US troops.

It comes a day after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani returned from a visit to the US and met with President Joe Biden at the White House.

Hezbollah has claimed it downed an Israeli drone that was on a combat mission in southern Lebanon.

The drone that was brought down above the Al Aishiyeh area in southern Lebanon was "waging its attacks on our steadfast people," a statement by the group said, according to Reuters.

Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy operating from Lebanon and it frequently trades rocket and drone attacks with Israel across the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Earlier today, Iran's supreme leader dismissed any discussion of whether Tehran's unprecedented drone-and-missile attack on Israel hit anything there.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments to senior military leaders did not not touch on the apparent Israeli retaliatory strike on the central city of Isfahan on Friday, even though air defences opened fire and Iran grounded commercial flights across much of the country.

The 85-year-old made the comments in a meeting attended by the top ranks of Iran's regular military, police and paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, a powerful force within its Shiite theocracy.

We have been reporting this weekend on the Israeli raid at Nur Shams, in the occupied West Bank.

The raid began in the early hours of Friday and troops were still exchanging fire with armed fighters into Saturday.

Here are some of the images that have emerged from the region...

By Alex Crawford , special correspondent

The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon has told Sky News the dangers in the region have not gone away and called for calm, wisdom and de-escalation as a matter of urgency.

Joanna Wronecka spoke from her office in Beirut about her worries and appealed for restraint from all those involved.

"I'm very concerned," she said. "Because we need just a small miscalculation and the situation can escalate even more."

She was referring to the spike in cross-border firing between the Israeli military and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters who've been trading attacks with growing intensity since 7 October.

You can read Crawford's full piece here...

The campaigner who was called "openly Jewish" by a police officer last weekend, has been offered a meeting with a senior Metropolitan Police officer.

In a statement, the force said assistant commissioner Matt Twist had written to Gideon Falter, chief executive of the Campaign Against Antisemitism, to offer a private meeting.

The meeting is "to both apologise to him personally and discuss what more the Met can do to ensure Jewish Londoners feel safe", the police said.

We reported this morning the Board of Deputies of British Jews will meet Met Police chief Sir Mark Rowley this week, along with the Jewish Leadership Council and antisemitism charity CST regarding the incident (see post at 2.05pm).

A baby girl was delivered in an emergency caesarean section after her Palestinian mother was killed along with her husband and daughter by an Israeli attack in the Gaza city of Rafah, Palestinian health officials have said.

The baby is stable and improving gradually, Mohammed Salama, a doctor caring for her, said.

Her mother, Sabreen Al-Sakani, had been 30 weeks pregnant.

The baby will stay in hospital for three to four weeks, Dr Salama said.

"After that we will see about her leaving, and where this child will go, to the family, to the aunt or uncle or grandparents. Here is the biggest tragedy. Even if this child survives, she was born an orphan," he said.

Israel has carried out near-daily air raids on Rafah, where more than half of Gaza's population of 2.3 million have sought refuge from fighting elsewhere.

It has also vowed to expand its ground offensive to the city on the border with Egypt despite international calls for restraint.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today and discussed the state of the region, a spokesperson for the German government has said.

"The chancellor emphasised that it was essential to avoid a regional escalation," the spokesperson said.

It comes as Iran and Israel, who have been locked in a shadow war for years, try to dial back tensions following a series of escalatory attacks between them as the Israel-Hamas war inflames the wider region.
