Thanks anne...
The OP is a false screen name which is part of a scheme to promote the website for " world kite tour"..
You can see the name in the link/URL listed in this post about a place No One is asking about.
Its just a clever? ruse to advertise world kite tours site ...
They did the same thing yesterday under another fake screen name/Member accout they called Cover Wise travel insurance, but what they were really doing was advertising " world kite tour" again because they left the same URL link.
I have a Screen shot of both posts...
The real OP for the world kite tour site has also tried this before, trying to get hits on their website and gain recognition on the TA Forums by violating the Forum posting guidelines against Self promotion, Advertising, Soliciting business and also Spamming

Charmed by a City Off Thailand’s Beaten Path
Centuries-old wooden temples, a graceful river and an unexpected chicken fixation make Lampang, in Northern Thailand, a delightful destination away from the crowds.

Thailand is renowned among hard-charging tourists for nightlife in Bangkok, full moon parties on Koh Phangan island and hedonistic walking streets in Pattaya. It’s also a magnet for the bohemian and wellness crowds who flock to the mountain destinations of Chiang Mai and Pai.
But mostly ignored by foreign tourists is Lampang, in Northern Thailand. This utterly charming, riverside city of about 90,000 people has preserved the historic architecture and stately squares from its days as a major city in the ancient Lanna kingdom and a hub in the teak lumber trade. Wooden temples from centuries ago and two-story teak mansions from the late 1800s and early 1900s still stand, and alongside the Wang River, the streets in the Kat Kong Ta enclave are like an open-air museum of well-preserved Chinese shophouses and European gingerbread-style buildings.
All around town are extremely friendly residents, as well as statues and images of chickens — from manhole covers to traffic circles. Chickens are the symbol of Lampang, and appear on its ceramics, acclaimed across Thailand, that include bowls and cups hand-painted with black-and-red roosters.
The charm in Lampang comes not from amusements and attractions built for tourists, but in exploring integral parts of a functioning city. Shophouses have evolved into boutiques and cafes. Ceramics factory stores are ideal for gift shopping. Even the horse carriages that clip-clop around town carrying tourists were originally the main transit for train passengers after the station opened in 1916.
River views, khao soi and the power of Buddha
I first heard about Lampang in 2022, when my wife, Susan, and I moved to Chiang Mai and we met a doctor named Lawrence Nelson, a retired physician-researcher known as Doc with the National Institutes of Health in the United States. He recommended a visit and in early January, we finally started our five-day visit to Lampang in a spartan, four-car train from Chiang Mai (for less than $1 each) on a 2.5-hour ride into the forested valley nestling the city.
You can find dozens of suitable homestays and hotels for less than $50 a night, and few pricier than that. We lucked out with a spacious room at Kanecha’s Home, a homestay in the heart of town overlooking the Wang River and the white, dragon-backed Ratsada Phisek Bridge .
We rode bikes along the quiet lane next to the river, glossily reflecting the silver spires of a temple, in search of a signature dish of Northern Thailand, khao soi. We found a delicious version of the curry noodle soup at the roadside restaurant Jay Jay Chan (a banner with Thai script that looks like “17” signified that it was vegetarian), with a tidy buffet station on the shaded sidewalk and a large wok gurgling with vegetable soup. Total bill, 120 baht or about $3.40, including several tasty black bean bars sprinkled with sesame seeds.
Late that afternoon, we meandered around the town. The weather was perfect, in the mid 80s, and the sky was block-printed with cumulus puffs. We strolled through the grassy, tree-shaded town square, past a tiered shrine with three tall teak pillars that locals wrapped with colorful ribbons for an auspicious start to 2024.
A square-block market building made of concrete was closing down when we stopped at a sidewalk flower shop across the street. A man named Reangprakaiy Decha nodded hello, and went on to share that his family has been selling bunches of daisies and chrysanthemums and garlands of orange marigolds for temple offerings for 50 years.
Mr. Reangprakaiy, 39, meditates daily “to be sharper; not to cheat people, but to help them,” he said. Why, I asked, did the city seem so peaceful, the people so friendly? He told us that it had to do with the power of a certain Buddha statue.
Nearby is a beautiful temple, Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao Suchadaram, Mr. Reangprakaiy said, where legend has it that in the 1400s, an elephant carrying Thailand’s sacred emerald Buddha statue diverted to Lampang and wouldn’t budge. The statue graced the temple for 32 years. It’s now enshrined in the Grand Palace in Bangkok, but its energy remains, he said.
“We believe that the power of this Buddha statue is very strong,” Mr. Reangprakaiy said, “and it spreads out for the Thai people to be peaceful and happy.”
Banana trees and ubiquitous chicken bowls
Mornings are for markets in Lampang, and before sunrise the main market on the north side of the Ratsada Phisek Bridge is a smorgasbord of everything from pig heads to live eels, fried fish to fresh vegetables. When we neared the entrance, where orange-robed monks stood sentinel with their alms bowls, we found a model of resourcefulness — a deconstructed banana tree. It was broken down on a metal table into piles of the fruit, the flowers and the stem (all edible) and stacks of flat, dark green leaves, used throughout the market to wrap cooked treats like bitter melon, pork and rice.
We then used the ride-hailing feature on the Grab app for a lift to the next market, on the west side of town and adjacent to the Nhong Krathing Park . We found scores of bamboo stalls offering traditional breakfast food like quail eggs and rice-flour muffins and perfectly cupped coffee from regional farms. Strums from an amplified guitar and tinkling wind chimes mixed with chatter from local residents dressed in running and cycling gear and squatting on little stools under a canopy of plum and fig trees.
That afternoon, we rented a motorbike and headed two miles southeast to get to the bottom of the city’s chicken fixation.
Local Thais tell the story of how Buddha came to town, and the deity Indra disguised himself as a rooster to ensure the residents woke up to offer alms. A more recent explanation can be found at Dhanabadee ceramics factory, which claims to be the original source of Lampang’s ubiquitous chicken bowls.
On a tour of the factory and museum, an English-speaking guide shared that the factory founder moved from China in the 1950s, discovering that the local white kaolin mineral was ideal for making ceramics. He opened a factory and, borrowing a motif popular in China for centuries, hand-painted chickens on cups and bowls. Admiration of the Lampang chicken bowls spread across Thailand over the decades, and now there are scores of workshops and factories producing chicken-adorned tableware.
‘Good life in this year’
Almost everywhere you turn, there is a temple. We spent one day visiting a handful, including Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang , built in the 1400s and thought to be one of Thailand’s oldest teak buildings.
Walking onto the grounds of a Buddhist temple in Thailand can be at once mesmerizing and bewildering, which is just how Susan and I felt.
We came across a mystery rope strung from the golden-spired, 14-story stone stupa down into the courtyard, and attached to the bottom in the clothesline setup were a succession of flowers, bells, streamers of Thai currency and a bolt of orange fabric.
Just as I was regretting that we didn’t have a tour guide, three Thai visitors approached us in the courtyard, asking if we wanted to know about the temple. The two men were old friends from college, now in their 60s: One was an artist from Lampang and the other a developer, joined by his wife, who splits his time between Bangkok and Atlanta.
The trio spent more than an hour escorting us around the temple, and Cheerapanyatip Chamrak, the artist, explained the background of the rope. The offerings, he said, were shuttled skyward each evening on this first weekend of the New Year, in prayer to Buddha “to protect you and have a good life in this year.”
Wealth built on logging
After moving south of town to the lush and tranquil Lampang River Lodge , into a teak and bamboo suite overlooking a lily-blanketed pond, we met up with Doc for lunch at the gable-roofed house of the first governor of Lampang, built at the turn of the 20th century and now occupied by the Baan Phraya Suren restaurant.
Delighted with our dishes of basil fried rice and pork topped with egg and spicy grilled pork salad, we talked about how Doc met his wife, a native of Lampang, when she was working in the Washington, D.C., area, and how, after his first visit to Lampang in 2017, he was soon helping support a local university’s research on women’s health.
He likened the city to Brigadoon, a mythical Scottish town that comes to life only one day every 100 years. “When I went to the nursing college for the first time I felt I was in a 1950s black-and-white movie,” he said.
We had an appointment that afternoon to step back in time with Jantharaviroj Korn, whose great-grandfather came to Lampang from Burma 126 years ago to work for the lumber baron Louis Leonowens, the son of Anna, the British tutor for the children of the King of Siam, immortalized in “The King and I” musical.
We met Mr. Jantharaviroj, 60, at the 108-year-old mansion of his grandfather. Thailand was a rarity in Southeast Asia in avoiding colonization by European powers, but the British extracted generous teak concessions: Thais did the hard labor and many Burmese moved to the area with the British (who had colonized Burma and exploited its teak) to serve as administrators and lumber barons themselves, he said.
Mr. Jantharaviroj’s family became wealthy from logging, he said, but his ancestors made amends for stripping the forests of teak.
“My grandfathers believed that if we cut the tree, we destroy the living place of the spirit, so we have to build the temple,” he said, adding that his grandfathers were major contributors to several Burmese-style temples in Lampang.
Our final day was reserved for the temple in the sky, Wat Phra Phutthabat Sutthawat , about an hour’s drive north. The only local tour guide I could find was out of town and referred us to a young woman, who picked us up at 4 a.m. to watch the sunrise on the mountaintop. The problem was, the park office didn’t open till 7:30.
The wait was worth it.
After lurching up a one-lane road in the bed of a pickup truck, we climbed steep staircases to a jagged limestone plateau with unadorned wooden shrines perched on the rocks. Each had gongs or bells, and we struck each three times with a prayer, the reverberations melding with the twittering of birds and a soft breeze. We were alone as mist evaporated from the forested floor a half-mile below until a Dutch couple arrived, followed by a handful of retirees from Bangkok.
Twenty years ago, a monk inspired by bathtub-like impressions on the mountaintop said to be the footprints of Buddha, had about 20 stupas built across the forest of stony peaks, some of them golden three-story cones, others shaped like round white bells.
The views and the energy of the place were so soothing that after 90 minutes I didn’t want to leave. But we were famished, and when we made our way back down, we found the dumplings and noodles stands just opening for lunch. We arranged a little plastic table on a porch to look out at the stupas high in the sky.
Munching a perfectly prepared papaya salad, we doubted there was a better lunch spot in Thailand.

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. For more information, read our guide about staying safe in Russia .

17 Exciting Things to do in Moscow
Written By: Linda Voltaire
Updated On: December 21, 2022
Visiting Russia? These are the top 17 things to do in Moscow to help you plan your trip.
If the western world has New York City , the first great metropolis on the eastern side of our planet is Moscow. A huge city with a complicated and impressive history, Moscow gets a bad rep over Russian politics – but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Capital to the largest country in the world, Moscow takes the grandeur of its standing very seriously.
This is a place where luxury is king and where opulence takes a front seat in every aspect of life. The buildings are grand and imposing, the parks are luscious and enormous, and even the subway stations look different in Moscow than anywhere else in the world.
Table of Contents
Best Things to do in Moscow, Russia
Walking around Moscow is also going through the tumultuous history of the 20th century, which had Russia as one of its main protagonists. There are fascinating remains of these times everywhere in the former Soviet capital, from the gorgeous Seven Sisters skyscrapers to the Orthodox cathedrals that were closed for the better part of a century. Still, Moscow is also a completely modern city, with a vibrant social and party scene, incredible restaurants, and some of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
After living in Russia’s capital as an ex-pat for four years, I got the privilege to experience not only the main attractions in Moscow but also the everyday life in this huge city and quickly found my sweat spots off the beaten tracks! So here is my list of my top 17 things to do in this exciting metropolis!
Attractions in Moscow
When visiting a famous city like this one, it’s a must to go through the most iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists.
1. The Red Square, Kremlin & Surrounding Area
No place tells the story of Moscow’s power in the past century the way the Red Square does. This is where the biggest political meetings in the USSR occurred for many decades, and you can feel the power on each step.
Here, you’ll also find the historic museum at the entrance, showcasing the decades of history behind this iconic landmark. The Lenin Mausoleum, perhaps the most famous resting place in the world and home to the remains of the former communist leader, is also here.
On one side of the Red Square you’ll find the Kremlin, the fortified complex that now hosts the presidential residence. This is also home to the most iconic of all Moscovite landmarks: St. Basil’s Cathedral, a 16th-century marvel of colors. This is the best spot to take a selfie and show the world you’ve reached the Russian capital!
- Get your Kremlin Skip the Line Tickets and Kremlin tour here.
- Free cancellation up to 24-hours in advance of the tour.
2. Bolshoi Theatre
You can easily spend a couple of days just exploring the Moscovite city centre, and the Bolshoi Theatre should be your second stop. Walk past the Red Square and then head to the nearby Bolshoi Theatre, one of the oldest and most renowned houses of opera and ballet on Earth.
Visit for the impressive early 19th-century architecture, but if you’re seeing a ballet performance, make sure you book between 3 and 6 months in advance! I can strongly recommend this as it is a truly unique experience!

3. Luxury Shopping at GUM and TSUM
While many might think of Moscow as the sad place with the long bread queues from the USSR days, it’s been quite the capitalist haven for a while.
If you’re up for some shopping, you’ll find one of the biggest luxury malls in town, TSUM, right behind the Bolshoi and GUM, at the red square. GUM is the most famous department store in town, where you’ll find luxury everywhere and all high-end brand.
All in an imposing late 19th-century building with lots of history, worth a visit just for the design, its bridges and the glass roof even though you are not up for shopping!
4. Christ the Savior Cathedral
A newer addition to the gorgeous Moscovite cathedrals and my grandeur neighbor during my years in the city Don’t let the young age of this building fool you. After the perestroika in the early 90s, the newly revived Russian Orthodox Church received permission to build a cathedral on this site. They did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church.
The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes as tall as the skies in bright gold and gorgeous paintings and decor! Bring a shawl to cover your hair to adjust to the local tradition.
Head to the back of the cathedral and you will find one of the most photographed bridges in Moscow, the Patriarshiy Most. This is the perfect spot to get a good view and photo of the cathedral but also to see the Kreml and Gorky Park from a distance. Or why not just enjoy a moment watching the river and its boats!
- Get around Moscow with ease using the Hop On Hop Off boat and Bus ticket. 24, 48 or 72-hour tickets available.
5. Gorky Park
Cross the river and head to Gorky Park along the Moscow river. The most famous green area in town, similar to New York ’s Central Park and the weekend hangout for locals. There are many beautiful parks in the city, but if you’re only visiting for a few days, this is the unmissable one!
With fair attractions to entertain children, beautiful artificial lakes and gardens, and lots of outdoor activities, it’s a lovely place to relax. A place of rest in the middle of the metropolis. The area in front of the New Tretyakov Gallery & the Muzeon Park of Arts is actually one of my favorite oasis as a bit more quiet and peaceful than Gorky itself.
Why not spend some time in the museum to get a great tour of Russia’s history through art or just enjoy the art exhibition outside where local artists spend their weekends.
6. River Cruising
One of the best ways to experience Moscow is from the Moscow River. There are many stops for the boats and one is just next to Gorky Park. See the city from another perspective – and turn the ride into a romantic one by taking the evening cruise. Moscow is magic during the night.
If you’re looking for a truly luxurious experience, take the Radisson Blu cruise – or the Erwin for a delicious seafood dinner. Both stop at Gorky or at the luxury Radisson Royal Hotel, set in one of the Seven Sister’s skyscrapers.
- We use Get Your Guide when booking city tours and they offer a River Sightseeing Cruise seeing all the main tourist attractions in Moscow
7. Metro Hopping
First inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow subway system is one of the oldest in the world, and certainly the most beautiful. Started under Stalinist times, each metro station is dedicated to grandeur and oozing personality.
Visiting the subway stops is an attraction in and of itself, and Komsomolskaya, Mayakovskaya, Kropotkinskaya are my favorites. Those surrounding the Red Square are also mesmerizing – in general, these are kind of like underground palaces.
Most of the signs at the Moscow Metro now have Latin letters, so it’s very easy to get around!Unfortunately, the trains are not as beautiful and pleasant as the stations but still, this is a true Moscow experience. Take a guided tour of the 9 most beautiful Metro Stations including the award-winning art deco station. See more details here.
8. Arbatskaya & Artsy Moscow
Novy Arbat Street is one of the most touristy areas in the city, with lots of shops and cafés directed at visitors. When you walk a little beyond, you’ll find a different part of town, where the hip scene thrives because so many artists live in the area. Just follow the small streets with fewer tourists!
9. Moscow State University View
In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings hosts the main building of the Moscow State University, one of the most prestigious colleges in Russia – and the one with the best view.
Although this is a little outside the city centre, the sight from above is more than worth it, with the nearby fountains and park and then the whole of the city behind them.
10. Russian Market
If you love to visit markets wherever you go, Moscow has one of the most impressive ones in the world – the Izmailovsky. You can easily take the metro here and feel like you’ve been transported to another time.
This place was first built in the 16th century and retains the look of an old fairytale, with a lineup of colorful old castle. A lovely local experience beyond the confines of the bustling metropolis, where you can also try some delicious Russian barbecue.
Here, you’ll find beautiful souvenirs at great prices.
Off The Beaten Track Moscow
Once you’ve covered the most touristic spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer – and the places below will also be full of locals! Moscow is a city for hipsters, full of trendy and arty spots where you can literally feel the creativity oozing! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend my sweat spots below!
11. Patriarshiye Prudy
This is my favorite area in the entire city! While Moscow is generally a very noisy metropolis, Patriarch Ponds is far quieter, yet such a vibrant place. This is a very hip and trendy area making you think you are rather in Paris than in Moscow. Here the streets are narrow and full of chic eateries and clubs to see the local crowd.
A little bohemian and with an air of peace you won’t find anywhere in the city this is a great spot to spend an afternoon with your thoughts.
12. ArtPlay
Barely 15 minutes away from the city center you’ll find the artsiest Moscow district: ArtPlay. For decades, this block was a factory, but it was renovated to become a hub for the arts not too long ago.
Now, you’ll find it’s full of exhibitions, showrooms and art schools – and some of the most creative people in town. Writers, painters, and young hip people use ArtPlay as a rendezvous, and you can feel the creative energy here. The industrial design with modern interior decoration is also a feast for the eyes!
13. Shopping Local Designs
If you’re into design, both international and local, you’ll find lots of cute things at Patriarshiye Prudy. Department store Podium Market is also a great spot for shopping, as a department store everywhere in town, with lots of local and international brands. There’s one in the Four Seasons Hotel next to Red Square. My favorite Moscow mall is Tsvetnoy Central Market, a cool spot with great brands, lots of inspo, and even a cute café!
14. Moscow City
Like many other great capitals of the world, for the past few decades, Moscow has hosted a super modern area full of modern skyscrapers – Moscow City. With a completely different vibe than the rest of town, it’s like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressively tall glass buildings. Here, you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, such as Ruski and Sixty they are perfect spots for dining or enjoying a glass of wine with a view. There are also a relatively new shopping mall with lots of international brands called Affimall!
Wine, Dine, and Party in Moscow
Gone are the gloomy Moscow days – cold as it might be in the winter, Russia’s capital is a place for the senses. Great food and drinks abound – and the clubs are hot, too!
15. Where to Eat in Moscow
Moscow is a great metropolis where people love to dine out, and there are endless options for delicious food. The flavors are as diverse as you’d expect from a big city, with options of fine dining and little hipster eateries.
- For traditional Russian flavors, I can’t recommend Café Pushkin, Dr. Zhivago, and Turnadot enough.
- When looking for international cuisines, Italian is always the way to go, and my local favorite is Probka.
- Fine dining is best done among the clouds at White Rabbit, with European flavors.
- As for the hip spots, you can spend a full day just eating around trendy places, from burgers to Asian fusion.
More Dining Options
- Patriarshiye Prudy offers a lot of small and classy spots with cool concepts, like breakfast restaurants I Love Cake and Fresh.
- For dinner, I love the NYC experience of Saxon & Parole, and the wonderful trendy Pins, with its delicious food and drinks.
- For delicious Asian food head to CutFish.
- Lastly, there’s a recent revival of food markets in Moscow, offering lots of great choices of international flavors at affordable places.
- Don’t miss out the Vietnamese food stand at the Danilovsky market, and everything at Usachevsky!
16. Rooftopping
Big cities deserve to be seen from above, having a cocktail among the clouds. These are my recommendations for rooftop bars in Moscow.
- As I mentioned in the Moscow City section, Sixty & Ruski are two of my favorites, overlooking the newest part of town.
- White Rabbit and its fine dining is also a lovely place for a fun dinner looking down on Moscow.
- O2, in the city center, has an advantage above all others: amazing views of the Red Square.
- Buono, above the Radisson Royal Hotel, might be the most romantic rooftop hotel in town, with its candlelit setting.
- Also on the Radisson stands the Mercedes. It’s a luxurious and posh experience with delicious cocktails.
- The Sky Lounge offers a peculiar experience, mixing an old Soviet building with futuristic additions.
17. Moscow by Night
Party the night away! The city is full of bars everywhere, but there are some areas where you’ll find more than others.
- Patriarshiye Prudy has lots of hip and small clubs and great bars, including the super fun private club Clava, which has a great vibe and people from all walks of life.
- For more hipster style bars, Red October is the place to go.
- Streak is a summer favorite, with a lovely terrace to catch a beautiful sunset – plus, their mozzarella bar is delicious.
- At night, Red October lights up with clubs everywhere, including the cool rooftop one Gipsy.
- Jagger is also a great spot during summer with a more relaxed vibe in garden setting.
- For the traditional Russian luxury experience, go to SohoRooms, a whole other world including all-night go-go dancers.
There are so many things to do in Moscow at night and during the day, you definitely need several days to explore this exciting destination.
Moscow is a must-see city, a city like no other ! I hope you will enjoy this Russian metropolis as much as I did!

Nice article. Love the hidden gems and graffiti art, would love to visit Artplay. Thanks for a comprehensive guide to Moscow!
Moscow is a city where the past and the future live side by side. Here we can find everything from medieval fortresses and Soviet monoliths to glass skyscrapers and innovation centers.
Your article is good and meaningful .
Thanks for sharing about ArtPlay district, we didn’t know about it and it looks amazing 🙂 Hopefully there’ll be a second time in Moscow, we visited last May and really liked the city!
Wonderful stuff! I’ve been to Moscow, but not properly – it’s a long story lol!
Anyhoo, my next thing is to fly from Berlin to Moscow and then travel from there to Beijing via the Trans-Mongolian / Trans-Siberian train. Now, if only I could just find the time …!
I hear Moscow is very beautiful at night. I hope to get out there one day. A friend of mine went to St. Petersburg and had a great experience. Despite all the tension we see on the news with Russia and other Countries like the U.S. I wonder what the sentiment is with Russians and foreigners visiting their country for tourism. Especially Americans.
that looks like quite a beautiful place. 🙂

Global travel retailer, Aer Rianta International (ARI) celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by extending ‘céad míle fáilte’ or a hundred thousand welcomes to key members of Ireland’s political elite around the globe over recent days.
The airport retailer, which has stores in multiple markets including Canada, Cyprus, India, Oman, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Ireland, used St. Patrick’s Day to highlight the company’s international footprint and remind consumers of its unique contribution to the global duty-free business.
Trade visits to ARI stores abroad were made by leading politicians during the annual week of celebrations for the Irish diaspora in the build up to St. Patrick’s Day, today.
Green attire and shamrocks—the three-leaved clover said to have been used by the Irish patron saint as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity—were in evidence across many cities including parades in London today, and New York on Saturday . An estimated two million turned out for the NYC event, now it its 263 rd year.
Irish soft power
ARI, the retail arm of state-owned daa (Dublin Airport Authority), hosted VIPs at various locations. They included Tánaiste Micheál Martin, a lawmaker in the lower house of the Irish parliament, at Montreal Duty Free in Montréal–Trudeau International Airport in Canada; Simon Coveney, Ireland’s minister for enterprise, trade, and employment traveled to Delhi Duty Free in Indira Gandhi International Airport in India; and Seán Ó Fearghaíl, the chairperson of the lower house of the Irish parliament who was welcomed at Portugal Duty Free in Lisbon Airport.

Ray Hernan, CEO of ARI, commented: “We are delighted to see ARI continue to prosper and expand and we wish a very joyous St Patrick’s Day to all. Slainte.” ARI has good reason to celebrate; it was the pioneer of duty-free retailing having opened the first duty-free shop in the world at Shannon Airport in Ireland in 1947 (see top image). From a small kiosk, the company now has a presence across 27 cities in 13 countries worldwide and is the top international travel retailer in the Middle East.
Daa’s international retail, consultancy, and management business, operated through ARI and daa International (daaI), has been growing. In the first half of 2023 (ending June 2023) combined revenue hit €121.7 million ($132 million) an increase of 49% on the same period in the year prior as passenger volumes rose after the impact of the pandemic.
Unrivaled Middle East impact
But ARI’s legacy goes deeper because it was a team from the company that developed the first duty-free operation at Dubai Airport in the early 1980s. From then until today, former ARI executive Colm McLoughlin—who had been general manager at the Freeport Shop (as it was called then) in Shannon Airport in the mid-1970s—has become one of the leading lights of Ireland’s diaspora. He transformed the operations of Dubai Duty Free and is the company’s current CEO.
Last year, Dubai Duty Free’s sales hit a record $2.16 billion . In McLoughlin’s recent biography, A Life Well Spent , trade between Ireland and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) has reportedly gone from almost nothing in the early eighties to €5.3 billion in 2021. According to the book, former Irish ambassador Pat Hennessy affirmed how McLoughlin and Dubai Duty Free have been crucial to this still-expanding geopolitical partnership.
Dazzling: ARI's Gem & I jewelry store at Abu Dhabi's Terminal A.
Meanwhile, under Hernan’s stewardship, ARI has also widened its reach. In January, the company extended its North American operations with the launch of a new store at Edmonton Airport in Canada where it is now operating the duty-free concessions in partnership with Marshall Retail Group, a WHSmith company .
The retailer’s futurist new stores at Abu Dhabi’s new Terminal A have also been turning heads. Each of the retail operations covering the beauty, jewelry, and sunglasses categories have distinct design cues, notable the Gem & I jewelry offering (pictured above) where Swarovski is prominent. International and well-known local brands including Spain’s PDPaola, and Authur, exclusive to ARI in the region, are also present.
