Mossy Falls is one of the most pretty places to visit in Mussoorie. Set amidst dense green forests, the falls cascade down from a height of 145 meters, sending up white mists all around. The falls drop from the height of 20 feet, 17 feet, 19 feet, 12 feet, 20 feet and 57 feet respectively, though not all drops are visible from one clear angle. If you wish to see all the drops, you will have to undertake a considerable amount of hiking around the falls.

There is no better way to start a day in Mussoorie than by trekking down to Mossy Falls at an early hour. Since Mossy Falls are only a short 7 kilometres away from Mussoorie, you can start from your hotel at 6 am and be at the waterfall by 7 am. Not only will you get to stroll along a quiet mountain road free from traffic, but you will also have the waterfall all to yourself. Tourist crowds only begin to arrive later in the day which means that you can go for a quick (but absolutely soap-free) dip in the chilly falls .

Highlights: The pleasure of taking a dip in the cold water of the mountains is an experience in itself, especially after an early morning hike. You can, of course, use transportation if you so desire. The quiet of the mountains and the rush and tumble of the waterfalls together make music which brings peace and joy to all those who listen to it.

Lake Mist is one of the best places to visit in Mussoorie that you cannot miss. It is a pristine lake, fed by the waters of River Kempty and is home to a small but pretty waterfall whose gurgling adds music to the scenic beauty of the lake. Set in the midst of the green hills, Lake Mist is a good place to spend a few hours. There is also a boating facility available so people can go and explore the lake in close proximity. The best time to go on the lake would be early on a weekday since the place witnesses a huge rush from the visitors on weekends, which makes it noisier and more chaotic.

1. Kempty Falls

British officer John McKinnon coined the name Kempty for this waterfall. 

The name takes inspiration from two English words: “camp” and “tea,” making it camp-tee (Kempty). Often British officials used to have tea parties at this waterfall.

Kempty Falls is #1 on the list of places you can visit in Mussoorie. It lies approximately 15 km away from the city center. And you can easily reach here via shared taxis or rented bikes.

You will have to pass through many shops and places to eat and drink on your way down to reach the waterfall. Take the ropeway to get down if you don’t want to walk.

This place bustles with tourists, and there’s a lot of commercialization. Don’t expect a serene and green kind of waterfall. Nonetheless, it is a great place to have fun with family and friends.

During British Rule, Sir George Everest served as the Surveyor-General of India for a significant period. He built his home and laboratory at a spectacular location in Mussoorie, which was later named after him. If you prefer not to undertake the exhausting trek, you can take a cab from Library Chowk to Hathi Paon. From there, it’s a trek of about 2.5 km to reach George Everest House. 15) Devalsari Temple:

To reach this temple, you will have to drive to Moldhar, and from there, after completing a small hike of 20 minutes, you will reach this beautiful place. 17) Landour and Lal Tibba, Mussoorie:

Landour is becoming increasingly popular among travelers visiting Mussoorie. The less crowded places and the beautiful, calm nature of the area win everyone’s heart. You can explore Landour, Char Dukan, St. Paul’s Church, and Lal Tibba at the same time since they are in the same direction.

We would advise you to go there for early morning or evening walks. From certain sections, you will be able to see the beautiful views of the Himalayan Mountain range. If the weather remains clear, you can even see Dehradun from there.

The real charm of Landour and Lal Tibba is seen in the monsoon season when the whole area remains surrounded by clouds. You can walk through the clouds to reach Lal Tibba. There is a cafe located at Lal Tibba where you can sit and enjoy your meals/beverages.

18) Bhatta Falls, Mussoorie:

Bhatta Falls is located on the way from Dehradun to Mussoorie, only 10 km away from the Mall Road of Mussoorie. Bhatta Falls serves as a famous picnic destination in Mussoorie. During the peak of summer, you can come here and enjoy the cool breezes of wind and bathe in the chilled water of Bhatta Falls. There is also an adventure park that can be explored.

You can take your vehicle very near to Bhatta Falls and then walk for a while to reach there, or else, you can reach there by cable car.

There are a few food stalls near Bhatta Waterfall. They have arranged dining areas beautifully near the waterfall where you can sit, dipping your legs in chilled water, while enjoying a bowl of Maggi. Bhatta Falls is a must-visit place for those who want to enjoy the scenic beauty of Himalayan waterfalls without facing the heavy rush of the crowd.

19) Robber’s cave, Mussoorie:

Robber’s Cave is one of the most famous picnic destinations for families near Dehradun. Did some robbers try to hide themselves in these caves after a robbery? Who knows?

20) Cloud’s End, Mussoorie:

Clouds End is a must-visit place in Mussoorie. You can take a taxi or rent a bike to reach this point, which is only 6 km away from the main center of Mussoorie. Once you reach there, you will feel as if you are on top of the world, with the clouds passing beneath you.

Your vehicle, whether it’s a car or a bike, can directly reach there. This place is surrounded by lush green forests. Upon arrival, you can explore the area. The George Everest peak is visible from this viewpoint. Try to go there during sunrise or sunset to witness the real beauty of the place.

21) Jaripani Falls, Mussoorie:

Jaripani Waterfalls is one of the lesser-known waterfalls of Mussoorie. Despite its lesser-known status, you may find it crowded on weekends. It’s just 9 km away from Mussoorie. Instead of visiting on weekends, we advise you to go on weekdays when there is less crowd. We also recommend going there by two-wheeler so that you can get as close to the waterfall as possible. If you are going by car, you will have to park at a distance and walk for 15-20 minutes to reach the waterfall, as it involves a steep descent and ascent.

The waterfall is truly beautiful, and there is a natural pool beneath it where you can take a bath.

22) Mussoorie Lake:

Mussoorie Lake is located 6 km away from Mussoorie. This place has recently been developed as a tourist destination. Situated on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road, tourists traveling from Dehradun to Mussoorie often stop here. You can enjoy paddle boating in the lake. If you have sufficient time and wish to indulge in paddle boating and other adventure activities, visiting Mussoorie Lake is recommended. Otherwise, it can be skipped.

23) Camel’s Back Road, Mussoorie:

Camel’s Back Road gets its name from a rock formation on the hilltop resembling a camel’s back. This formation is visible from a specific spot beneath the Mall Road. To reach this point and view the Camel’s Back Rock, you’ll need to hike for about 2 km from Mussoorie’s Mall Road. There are binoculars installed at this spot for a better view.

However, we believe that the walk through the town will be more beautiful than seeing just this spot. You can start walking early in the morning from Mall Road, take in the sight of the Camel’s Back Rock along the way, and end your walk at Gandhi Chowk. The total distance covered during this short hike is around 5-6 km. Along the route, there is a gazebo installed where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views of the Himalayan Mountains while sipping a cup of tea. This gazebo spot is known as ‘Hawa Mahal’ among locals.

24) Library Chowk and Library Bazar, Mussoorie:

Library Chowk is one of the most famous locations and a major tourist attraction in Mussoorie. It can be called the heart of Mussoorie. The vintage library from the British era lends its unique name to this place. The beautiful architecture of the library is truly captivating. Near Library Chowk, there is a market known as Library Bazaar. Here, you’ll find numerous shops, restaurants, and cafes.

25) Benog Wildlife Sanctuary , Mussoorie:

Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit place in Mussoorie for those seeking to escape the noise and crowds of city life. It is located 6 km away from Library Chowk and is very near to Clouds End. Upon arrival, you will need to hike for 1 km to reach the main entry gate of the sanctuary. There is a forest department office where you’ll be given a form to fill out. The entry fee is Rs. 150 per person.

The trail passes through lush green forests and offers spectacular views of the Shivalik Himalayas. If you wish to reach the summit, you’ll need to hike an additional 2 km. There is a small temple dedicated to Goddess Durga located at the peak.

For those looking for the best one-day hikes in Mussoorie, a visit to Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is highly recommended. Camping is not allowed, and entry is prohibited before sunrise and after sunset.

26) Jwala Devi Temple, Mussoorie:

Jwala Devi Temple is located atop the hill within the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. The trek to Jwala Devi is considered one of the best one-day hikes in Mussoorie. It spans 6 km in total (3 km one way). The walk through the forest is truly beautiful. However, those who haven’t done any trekking before may find this one-day hike exhausting, although there are no steep climbs involved.

The trek starts from Clouds End. You will need to hike to the forest ranger’s office, which is approximately 1 km away. Upon reaching the office, you’ll need to pay the required fees to obtain permission for the trek.

27) Jabarkhet Nature Reserve, Mssoorie:

You might be surprised to learn that Jabarkhet Nature Reserve is a private forest owned by a Mumbai-based businessman. This reserve boasts beautiful forest trails winding through lush green forests. A local guide will accompany you on this hike. The reserve is home to many varieties of trees and wild Himalayan flowers. Various wild animals, not limited to leopards, roam freely in this protected area.

Surkanda Devi Temple is located 50 km away from Mussoorie and is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India. It is believed that Goddess Sati’s head fell at this place, which is why it was initially called “Sirkanda.” Later, it became known as “Surkanda” because it is situated on the mountain named Surkut. To reach Surkanda Devi Temple, you first need to drive to Kaddukhal. From there, after completing a 1.5 km hike, you will reach the hilltop where the temple is located. On weekends, you may find it filled with devotees.

10 Places To Visit In Mussoorie

Located 35 kilometres from Dehradun, Mussoorie is a picturesque hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand . The hill station is located at the foothills of the Garhawl Himalayan ranges, and is also known by its nickname “ The Queen Of Hills ”. The place is also known as the gateway to the “Gangotri and “Yamunotri” shrines. The best time to visit the place is between mid-March to mid-November as the rains during monsoons and cold during the winters make it pretty inaccessible. Here is a list of top ten places to visit in Mussorie :

1. Kempty Falls

Visitor Information

• Famous for: Waterfalls, Nature, Photography.
• Tickets: No entry fee. Extra charges for water related activity.
• Opening Timings: Open all days from sunrise to sunset.
• Duration: 1.5-2 hours.

About Kempty Falls

The Kempty falls are surrounded by high mountain ranges and are situated at an altitude of approximately 1,364 meters above sea level, thus giving it a wonderful surrounding to just sit and listen to the sound of the water which falls on the rocky bed of the water below among the lush green vicinity.

• Visit the water park.

2. Lal Tibba

• Famous for: Nature, Peaks, Photography.
• Tickets: No entry fee.
• Opening Timings: Open all days from 8am to 7pm.
• Duration: 30 mins.

About Lal Tibba

The highest peak in Mussoorie, with an altitude of over 2,290 meters above sea level and provides some amazing and never seen before views of the mountains that house the holy shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath. To give its visitors a clearer view of the picturesque surroundings a Japanese telescope has been installed at the edge of the cliff also the place is highly preserved from most commercial activities. Things to Do near Tibba Peak:

3. Happy Valley

• Famous for: Tibetan culture, Buddhism, Viewpoints.
• Opening Timings: Open all days at daytime.
• Duration: 2-3 hours.

About Happy Valley

The centre of the Tibetan settlement in Mussoorie, Happy valley is situated at a short distance from the mall road. This is the place where Tibetans first arrived in India when they fled from Lhasa in 1959, led by their spiritual leader dalai lama before he moved to Dharamsala. The place is lined with oaks and deodars and has several small hotels and cafeterias and as you walk further into the town, you will get to experience calm like no other.

Things to Do at Happy Valley:

• Eat Tibetan cuisines.
• Shop for souveniers.
• Visit the Buddhist monestary.
• Volunteer at the schools here.

4. Camel’s Back Road

• Famous for: Nature, Adventure, Photography.
• Duration: 1 hour.

About Camel’s Back Road

The road takes its name from the rock which is shaped like a camel’s hump on its back and stretches around a distance of about 3-4 kilometres from Kulri bazaar to the Library Chowk in Mussoorie. The road is ideal for a walk as one can get amazing views of the valley and the mountains from here. The place is great for the photographers who are looking for great shots to capture of the valley and the mountains that surround Mussoorie.

• Pony Rides.
• Shop for souvenirs.

5. Gun Hill

• Tickets: No entry fee. Ropeway ride is chargeable at 75 INR per person.
• Opening Timings: Open all days from 10 am to 6 pm.

About Gun Hill

The second highest point in Mussoorie, the place’s name is derived from the event of firing cannon from this place to tell what time is it to the people during the British colonization hence giving it the name ‘ Gun Hill ’. The place lies at an altitude of 2,024 meters above sea level and offers some majestic views of the surroundings.

• Sunset and sunrise views.

6. Mussoorie Lake

• Famous for: Lakes, Nature, Serenity.
• Tickets: 15 INR entry fee with extra charge for boat rides.
• Duration: 2 hours.

About Mussoorie Lake

Located at 6 kilometres on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road, the lake was recently developed as a picnic spot by the city board and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development authority. A nice small lake, which is created by a natural waterfall, while going down from road to lake in the way very good small waterfall is there , you can see duck swimming in lake, you can ride a paddle boat here as well and enjoy the amazing surroundings.

7. Christ Church

• Famous for: Architecture, History.
• Opening Timings: Monday to Saturday (7 am to 6:30 pm) & Sunday (8 am to 6:30 pm).

About Christ Church

Christ church was built in 1836 and is considered to be the oldest churches in the Himalayan ranges by the British during the British colonization in India. Possessing Gothic design and architectural styles, the stained glass windows in the Church represent the events in the life of Jesus Christ. Apart from this, the high altar in the Church presents the sufferings of Jesus Christ. The walls and interiors of the church are beautifully decorated to grab attention of visitors.

8. Sir George Everest’s House

• Famous for: History, Nature, Trekking.
• Opening Timings: Open all days.

About Sir George Everest’s House

Built in the year 1832, the house belonged to the famous surveyor and geographer, Sir George Everest , after whom the world’s highest peak is named. He stayed in Mussoorie for around a good 30 years and the house showcases some interesting facts about the famous personality. It is 6 km from Gandhi Chowk / Library Bazaar and is accessible by vehicle, although the road is very rough beyond Haathi Paon (elephant’s foot).

9. Jwalaji Temple

• Famous for: Pilgrimage.

The temple is located at a distance of around 9 kilometres west from Mussoorie atop Benog hill at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. The place enshrines a centuries old idol of the Hindu deity Goddess Durga, the manifestation of supreme beauty and deadly power in the Hindu mythology.

Also famously known as the Mall road , it is a total shopper’s delight with everything in the same location. The Mall is like the lifeline of Mussoorie with almost everything located on this very stretch. Be it attractions, hotels, restaurants, shops – The Mall houses them all.

The best time to visit Mussoorie is in the summer season from April to mid-July when the weather is ideal for sightseeing. This is also the peak season in Mussoorie and Dehradun. Another good time to visit Mussoorie is from September to mid-November to experience a breathtaking view of mist enveloped Himalayas. To experience snowfall, December to February is the best time to visit Mussoorie. Avoid visiting Mussoorie during the monsoon from 15 July to 15 September.

3rd Oct Mussorie to dhanaulti,Day at leisure

4th Oct Dhanaulti to Rishikesh /Haridwar

5th Haridwar/rishikesh

6th Haridwar to Delhi by shatabdi

Is itinerary ok?What should i do in haridwar and rishikesh?can anyone explain in detail for 2 days.Other than relaxing does dhanaulti offer any thing else.

Itinerary is okay.I will suggest you to choose 2 destinations to enjoy your trip..or do 2 nights in mussoorie and 2 in haridwar..

One day sightseeing of mussoorie- second day, day trip to dhanaulti and kanatal..third day move to haridwar - haridwar sightseeing like mansa devi chandi devi temples, har -ki-paudi-

Fourth day - rishikesh sightseeing like laxman jhula, ram jhula, triveni sangam, vashistha cave etc

Fifth day- move back

Also can do 2 nights in mussoorie and 2 nights in lansdowne

If you want to stay away from crowd then can plan for nights in dhanaulti or kanatal

Now plan has been changed little bit,got some meeting in Delhi on 5th oct so have to return on 5th morning.So now i am having only 3 days,2nd 3rd and 4th.Planning to drop haridwar/rishikesh as wanted to spend a day in hills watching snow capped mountains.Kindly suggest

Yes better do mussoorie this time...go to lal tibba to see himalayan ranges..also do day trip to dhanaulti and climb upo surkanda devi temple to see awesome view of himalayan mountains..

how cold is mussorie in first week of october. I will be traveling with a baby and she catches cold in too cold climate.

it usually ins't much cold untill ofcourse there is rain fall

pleasant weather..but cold eve and morning..better keep good woolen for you kid and keep necessary medicines.
