Babbel is a program that costs money, so I will only recommend it to you if you want to learn basic Dutch and more, instead of random words and sentences. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is the hub for KLM as well, that means you can easily fly through or to Schiphol from many locations in the world. My favourite weather app for Amsterdam and the rest of The Netherlands is Buienalarm. The best part about this app is that it shows up to two hours when the rain will fall down. I’ve only had it a couple of times that Buienalarm was wrong, but I’ve been using this weather app in The Netherlands for years now. There are a radar and a weather forecast as well included in the app. Turn your notifications on for several locations to immediately be aware of the rain that’s coming your way.

Buienradar is one of the very useful travel apps that you can use in The Netherlands. While it’s not as specific as Buienalarm, it’s useful to discover the weather prediction in the long-term. Including options to see whether hail, snow or thunder is heading your way. That makes it one of the best apps to have for travelling through The Netherlands if you don’t fancy getting a headache because of hail.

Great public transportation apps for The Netherlands

Reisplanner ns.

Reisplanner by NS is the official Dutch railways’ service app. This train app for The Netherlands is a free app that has all the current train travel information. If there are delays or disruptions, planned work etc. it all shows up. The Netherlands has a big train network, so this app is very useful. All the stations are included, as well as any amenities you can find there. It includes information on the length of the train, how crowded it is and plenty of more things. That makes Reisplanner one of the most useful public transport apps in The Netherlands.

My ultimate favourite app for The Netherlands is the public transport app called 9292, sometimes called 9292ov. This planner is used by most people in The Netherlands to plan their public transport journey. 9292 included the fastest routes, whether there are delays and changes and more. The 9292 app is also available in English.

If you’re planning on taking an international train from Amsterdam or any other big train station in The Netherlands, then NS International will be a very useful transport app in The Netherlands. You can have a look at your current tickets or buy new tickets.

Whether you’re staying in a hostel, hotel or apartment in The Netherlands, sometimes you don’t want to cook or eat out. Then the food app Thuisbezorgd is your hero in The Netherlands and Amsterdam. This food delivery app will make your dreams come true. The only issue is that the app is in Dutch, but if you’re hungry there’s nothing you can’t do. Including using Google Translate to make your foodies’ dreams come true. You can pay with non-Maestro cards as well, which is especially for foreigners a big plus.

If you’re a vegan or vegetarian and travelling to The Netherlands, you might have heard of this app called Happy Cow. This app can be used all over the world. It’s useful to discover restaurants and cafes that offer great vegan and vegetarian food in The Netherlands and Amsterdam. This is a must have food app for Amsterdam for sure as you can find most vegan restaurants of The Netherlands here. However, vegan food is expanding rapidly to other parts of the country so in smaller cities, you’ll be able to find places as well.

This is another food delivery app in The Netherlands, but not my ultimate favourite. The reason for that is that you cannot find Deliveroo all over The Netherlands. And if you were planning on getting a delivery in the middle of the night after the club, then it’s usually not the best. However, if you’re in a big city such as Amsterdam or Utrecht then Deliveroo is a great food delivery app.

Toogoodtogo

This is one of the best apps that you need to download for The Netherlands. If you’re on a budget, like to live eco-friendly, or both in The Netherlands, then this is great for you. Toogoodtogo is an application that is made to decrease the massive amount of food waste that we have in The Netherlands. You can pick up leftovers from restaurants, cafes and supermarkets for a very cheap price of around 3 euros (sometimes more or less). Every day the products that are leftovers differ, so it’s a surprise for you as well. Bring your own bag so we can decrease the amount of plastic together as well.

Communication apps in The Netherlands

What’s app.

The app that I, together with most of Europe, use every day is What’s App. This is a free messenger app that is easy to help you connecting with your friends and family back home, or with the new local Dutch friends you made. One downside, you need data to use What’s App if you’re not connected to Wi-Fi. An upside to What’s App is that this service is way more secure than most messaging apps out there. So are you planning on making local friends? Then don’t forget to download one of the top travel apps for Holland and The Netherlands.

Best dating apps for The Netherlands

With Bumble women are in charge of the dating scene all over the world. But, Bumble actually also has an option to look to meet friends. So, whether you’re looking for friends in a new country or just something fun, Bumble is a must-have travel app for The Netherlands.

Next up is Tinder. While some see Tinder as a hookup application, there are actually more success stories than you might think. So, give it a shot and maybe you end up with a nice souvenir.

Happn is the dating app that is often used in The Netherlands. If you were wondering who that beautiful woman or man was that just passed you, there’s quite a chance you can actually find them in the Happn app. With this application, you will see every one of the preferred genders that you cross paths with. Now, all there’s left is hoping they will like you back. At least you now know their name for your stalking adventures.

Apps to find accessible restaurants, attractions, toilets & more in The Netherlands

Ongehinderd.

Ongehinderd is an application that is only in Dutch. But one that is still very useful to find accessible attractions, restaurants and more in The Netherlands. It’s very useful to be prepared and not eventually get disappointed because you had a certain restaurant in mind.

The Wheelmate app is incredibly useful to find accessible toilets. But also disabled parking places all over The Netherlands. With this parking & toilets app for The Netherlands, you can easily save your location. The app automatically gives you information on where you can find disabled toilets. And where you can find disabled parking spaces in the neighbourhood.

Accommodation apps for The Netherlands

Hostelworld & hostelbookers.

If you’re looking for the best hostels and prices in The Netherlands, then Hostelworld and Hostelbookers are two of the accommodation apps you should use in The Netherlands.

Booking.com

The Booking.com application is great to book accommodation quickly. Not to mention that you can easily change the reservation and often don’t need to fill in your credit card until the same day. You can find everything that you’re searching for on the Booking app. From luxurious hotels to apartments and from hostels to small bed & breakfasts.

Couchsurfing

The last accommodation app you should use in The Netherlands is Couchsurfing if you’re on a budget. Now, many people are searching for a free bed or couch to stay in, especially in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. However, it’s always worth a try so you can spend your money on other things.

You might’ve noticed I didn’t include the Airbnb app. The reason for this is the fact that Airbnb is not a great company who thinks of the locals. Airbnb is one of the reasons why the housing crisis in Amsterdam got even worse. If you can stay with the owners in the same apartment and only rent a room (as it was originally meant for), then it’s okay. Or when the owners of the house are on a trip of a month or so. Not when the houses are sublet by the big companies and real estate agents who prefer to take advantage of tourists with the absurd prices. And they will not allow locals to buy or rent the house because locals cannot afford to pay the crazy amounts. Please think again whether you should use Airbnb in The Netherlands or not. Airbnb is one of the reasons that force locals out of the city because they cannot afford to live there anymore. Airbnb doesn’t enforce the rules that were created by the local council either because they simply don’t care about people.

Other useful apps for The Netherlands

Social deal.

If you’re interested in budget travelling through The Netherlands, then downloading the Social Deal app will be a lifesaver. From amazing deals at major attractions in The Netherlands to great hotel offers and more.

This party app gets you connected to party-loving locals and visitors in The Netherlands really easy. People will invite you to parties and more. It used to be known as Party with a Local but changed to Party With. However, it’s a game changer for the party lovers.

There’s a big chance that you’re not from The Netherlands when you’re reading this. There’s a whole world out there that uses different units than we do in The Netherlands. That’s why this is the perfect converter for your travels to Europe. This converter is for currencies, temperatures, weight and more. Now, if you’re aware of another app that is great for converting clothing sizes, please let me know. The ones I’ve seen and tried to use don’t include many countries or sizes.

Although Google Maps can be helpful (that you can use offline if you download a certain place), I prefer Maps.me. Why? Because in this app you can easily get directions or even discover restaurants or other places in the area, all while being offline.

Netflix anyone? We all know how some news sites aren’t available in other countries, or how websites as Netflix have a lot more content in other countries. With Nord VPN it’s very easy to get to other international websites. And it’s the best VPN for Europe and the other continents. If you’re looking for the best VPN for Amsterdam or The Netherlands, then you’d want to have a look at Nord VPN, it has never let me down.

Google Photos

This application is great, so you can easily back up your photos on your phone, so you won’t lose them even if your phone gets stolen. There’s one downside to this app and that is the fact that the photos are decreased in image size and quality.

Rise is a great app for when you want to know when the sunset or sunrise takes place. It also gives you information what time you can find the first and last light of the day in The Netherlands.

This application is only in Dutch, but gives you information of where you can find public toilets in The Netherlands. Lijst means list and it’s the list that shows you the toilets that are closest to you. Kaart means map and here you can see all the toilets. You can also search a city and find public toilets this way. The toilets can be anywhere, from a train station to a shop to a harbour.

Most useful and best travel apps for Amsterdam, Noord- Holland

Amsterdam city guide.

This app is the best offline app for Amsterdam. This application has everything about Amsterdam that you want to know, besides this 2 day local itinerary , these 40+ facts and the cheapest hostels . You can find over 800 addresses in Amsterdam in this app, including where to get the best food in Amsterdam. When you have downloaded the information, there’s no internet needed. You can search by neighbourhoods in Amsterdam and navigate easily.

The Amsterdam Dance Event is the biggest event in Amsterdam. To make your visit to ADE in Amsterdam a bit smoother, they’ve created an app, named Woov. On this ADE application, you’ll find all the relevant information on events, artists and venues. But also, communities. Here you can meet other like-minded people, personalised recommendations and you can even create your own schedule in the app.

VaarWater app

If you’re renting a boat in Amsterdam, then you’d want to download one of the best Amsterdam travel apps. This boating app makes it incredibly easy to sail through the canals of Amsterdam. Discover routes, where to place your boat and things to see and do in the areas. It even includes a speedometer, weather forecast of Amsterdam and more.

This is the best taxi app for Amsterdam. The reason? This is one of the biggest and most reliable taxi companies in Amsterdam. This way you know you’re not getting ripped off. So, if you’re in Amsterdam looking for a taxi app, this is it.

Also, I didn’t include Uber on this list. The reason why is that Uber doesn’t care about its drivers, their health and anyone can be a driver if they fill out three questions. There’s been a lot of anger directed toward Uber because they don’t have any standards for drivers. They charge a lot of commission and don’t have rules to make sure the drivers rest. Because of the lack of rules from the side of Uber deathly accidents have happened in The Netherlands. The drivers were driving way too long, were speeding, etc. People got killed in The Netherlands because of bad management by Uber. So, I would only recommend you use TCA in Amsterdam. Of course, not every Uber driver is a bad one, but still.

The GVB is the municipal transport company of Amsterdam and has the best Amsterdam public transport app. The GVB app can be used for public transport within Amsterdam. It can also be used within the rest of The Netherlands. But I prefer to use the GVB app only for Amsterdam and use the 9292 ov public transportation app for the rest of The Netherlands. You can use the GVB app in English to see when and which the tram, metro, bus or night bus in Amsterdam leaves with this app. This public transport app of Amsterdam shows the best routes to take as well as the times and delays or detours.

Top 10 must-have apps if you travel to Amsterdam

Planning to visit Amsterdam and do you want to prevent yourself from getting lost? Do you want to chat with locals? Avoid the rain? Get the best deals? We’ve listed 10 must-have app’s to download and use during your stay in Amsterdam.

With this app you can activate location, so you can look up directions directly from where you are. You can plan your journey by public transport (OV) via the planner and see it immediately if there are delays. The app will then give you several advice to choose from. A must if you travel a lot!

With this app you can easily plan your trip and quickly find departure times. The app also alerts you when you need to check out with an OV chip card. Work and delays are displayed and can often be found via this app rather than on the signs at the station.

Uber is an app to quickly share reliable journeys — both during the day and at night. You no longer have to park or wait for a taxi or bus. With Uber you order a ride through the app, you pay conveniently with your credit card and in some cities cash.

Flitsmeister

Are you traveling by car? Then Flitsmeister cannot be missed. Flitsmeister saves you fines, warns of traffic jams and prevents accidents. By using Flitsmeister while driving, you are automatically alerted to incidents during your ride.

Let’s face it, our phones probably control us more than we control them. Am I right? Time to make them work a little more for us. The best Amsterdam apps are ones that make life a little easier. Whether you are traveling or living in my favorite city, these are the best apps for Amsterdam, but most could be considered the best apps to use in the Netherlands as a whole. If you are traveling a little more on your trip, don’t miss our best apps to use in Europe .

Best Amsterdam apps for getting around

If Citymapper is ever available in the city you are visiting, it’s a must to use. It gives more relevant information than Google and is way more fun to use. My favorite feature that I use in other cities the most is which exit to take when leaving the metro. Super handy when visiting an unfamiliar city. So, don’t forget to download Citymapper for Amsterdam before you arrive because I’d almost say it’s the best Amsterdam travel app!

This is the general transportation app that takes into account all transit companies in the Netherlands. It will get you all over the country so you always know which tram, bus, train, or metro you need to take, no matter which Dutch city you are in.

For longer distances that involve train travel on NS throughout the country, this will help you get from city A to city B with service updates if needed. I like to have all apps in case there’s an update to the service and you need to double check information or just find alternatives routes.

The ferry, metro, tram and blue buses are all under the GVB, so the GVB app best to get you around the city and it will also give service updates. While apps like Google Maps and Citymapper tend to be incredible, they don’t have the push notifications when something goes wrong.

If you are staying in, or living in Amsterdam Noord, this app ( Android & iPhone ) gives you the same countdown for the ferries as is shown on the clock at the dock. When they only run every ½ hour, it’s pretty handy so you aren’t waiting around too long.

I try to always have a taxi app on my phone. Uber doesn’t work everywhere in Europe but it definitely works in Amsterdam. This is best for long distances or if you’re in heels and even a short distance can feel like a long one.

Apps for traveling to and from Amsterdam

Schiphol app.

Never have to look at a departures board again! This Schiphol app tells all…and then some. Just add your flight when you’re on your way to the airport and you’ll get all the updates instantly. It’s perfect whether you are coming or going and if you have people visiting and landing at Schiphol. Then you stay up to date with everything.

From planes to trains to buses, I love that the Omio app gives me options. Which is the cheapest way to get from point A to point B. This is especially useful if you are going to be traveling around a lot. Maybe you’re flying into Brussels but then want to go to Amsterdam, then Berlin, then Prague. It’s perfect for that!

Best apps to have when you are living life

Delivery apps.

Amsterdam has many food delivery apps. From UberEats to Deliveroo , you’ll definitely be covered! Not all the restaurants are on every app, so just use the one you are most comfortable with and I’m sure there will be something you will want to eat.

Buienalarm or Buienradar

The weather can get a tad wild here and can change before you realize the sky got dark. That way Buienalarm or Buienradar are super helpful because you can get a pretty good preview of the next 90 if it’s going to rain.

To make the most of any city, it’s important to have the right apps. It just makes life a bit easier. My biggest stressor has always been getting from one place to another easily. That’s why I love these apps. I hope that makes your visit to Amsterdam that much more wonderful!

Whether you are looking for a single ticket, a day pass or an Amsterdam Travel Card, here you will find all the information you need. In this guide we present the most important tickets for visitors. So you can easily find the right ticket for your stay in Amsterdam.

Important information about buying tickets:

• You cannot buy tickets on buses and trams from the driver.
• Many of the tickets are available online and can be purchased before your trip. You will find more information below.
• Almost all public transport in Amsterdam is organized under the tariff system of the municipal transport company GVB “Gemeente Vervoer Bedrijf”. This makes it much easier for passengers, as a day ticket is valid on the metro, trams and GVB buses.

#1 Single rides with the OV chip card / “e-purse” or OVpay

If you are staying in amsterdam for a longer period of time but do not want to use public transport very often.

The OV card / e-purse system is not that simple, especially if you don’t visit the Netherlands often.

How does the OV card / e-purse work?

The OV card works like a prepaid cellphone card. You can load the card with a certain amount of money at a machine and then use it up.

For a single ride, you will pay a fixed base price plus a set amount per kilometer driven. Thus, you are paying for the distance traveled. The distance is measured exactly every 50 metres and charged accordingly. There is no such thing as a classic one-way ticket , which costs a certain amount regardless of the distance travelled (flat rate). The OV chip card / e-purse can be used in trams, buses, as well as the Metro.

• Every passenger over the age of 4 must have a chip card.
• The card must be topped up with at least €4 before each journey to ensure that there are sufficient funds to cover the fare.

E-purse – prices

A rechargeable and anonymous chip card, without personalisation with a passport-type photo, costs €7.50 (without adding credit). There is a €2.50 service charge for withdrawing any remaining balance.

Standard fare: base price: €1.08 per trip plus 19.6 cents per kilometer traveled

Children (4–11 years) get a discounted fare: base price: 71 cents per trip plus 12.9 cents per kilometer traveled

Another payment system was introduced in 2023: OVpay. You can pay for a single journey on local public transport directly with your credit or debit card. All you have to do is present your payment card to a scanner when boarding and alighting. The fare will be automatically debited from your account.

Paying with OVpay – important information:

• You must always check in and out with the sa me bank card. Otherwise, the billing system will not be able to determine the correct fare.
• For single journeys, you will need a separate payment card for each passenger.
• In addition to the fares, credit card or exchange rate fees may also apply.
• A journey with an age discount (e.g. children’s fare) is not yet possible with OVpay.
• Don’t forget to check out with your payment card when you get off the bus. The fare depends on the distance traveled. If you do not check out, you will be charged an incorrect, usually higher fare.
• There is no daily limit, as there is in London. This means that you can pay significantly more per day with OVpay than with a day ticket (see below).

#2 GVB single day ticket or multi-day-ticket: Easy & affordable – ideal for visitors & tourists – optional Airport Express bus

Cheap & easy: the single-day-ticket with a validity of 1 – 7 days. Buy online and save time and stress in Amsterdam.

GVB single and multi-day tickets are popular with visitors to Amsterdam. They are easy to use and affordable.

What does this ticket offer?

• This ticket gives you unlimited travel on all GVB trams, city buses and the metro (day and night) throughout Amsterdam and you don’t have to keep an eye on your balance like you do with the e-purse.
• It is flexible in terms of time. Tickets are available for a single day and for up to 7 days , from 24 to 168 hours. The clock starts ticking at the time of first use.
• There is a day ticket, especially for children aged 4 to 11. The kids’ ticket is only valid for a single day. You can purchase more than one child’s day ticket if required.
• You can buy the ticket online before your trip (no surcharge – click here) .
• This ticket is not valid for other regional bus companies, such as Connexxion or EBS, or in trains of the Dutch railway company NS

Prices are at the lower end for a European city. The longer the validity, the lower the price per day.

Fares (2024) :

Children’s ticket (4–11 years) for 1 day / 24h: €4.50 – multiple tickets can be purchased for longer stays.

Standard fare:

1 day / 24h: €9 2 days / 48h: €15 3 days / 72h: €21 4 days / 96h: €26.50 5 days / 120h: €33 6 days / 144h: €37.50 7 days / 168h: €41 (€5.85 per day)

This will save you stress later, as you won’t have to deal with the fare system and ticket machines after your flight. If you are travelling via Schiphol Airport, you can also buy the Amsterdam Travel Ticket online (day ticket for local transport + airport transfer by express bus or train).

GVB Ticket Child

Children aged 0-3 travel free on Amsterdam’s public transport. For children between 4 and 11 years of age, the GVB children’s day ticket is available at a reduced price.

Children aged 0–3 years can use public transport in Amsterdam free of charge. There is a reduced day ticket for children between the ages of 4 and 11. It currently (2024) costs €4.50. There is no multi-day pass for children.

If you need a children’s ticket for several days, the easiest way is to buy several one-day children’s tickets. You can buy GVB children’s day tickets online together with adult tickets.

Where is the GVB day ticket valid?

The GVB day ticket is valid on the entire GVB tram, underground and bus network.

If your destination or accommodation is outside the validity area, you might be interested in the Amsterdam Region Travel Ticket (see below). This ticket is valid for the entire region around Amsterdam.

# 3 Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket: Trips around Amsterdam + airport transfer included

The Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket entitles you to:

• Unlimited use of all GVB streetcars, city buses, metro (day and night) and ferries . This allows you to travel within the city of Amsterdam in the same way as the GVB Day Ticket (see above).
• In addition, you can also use the buses of the Connexxion and EBS companies . These bus companies serve destinations outside the Amsterdam city area. The GVB day ticket (see above) is not valid on these buses. This also includes the Airport Express Bus 397 (shuttle bus to the airport) .
• Trains  in the Amsterdam region with the national railroad company NS are included.

You can buy this ticket before your trip via the GVB authorized ticket portal (click here) . This will save you time and stress during your stay in Amsterdam.

Current prices for the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (2024)

With the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket you can travel in a much larger area than with a GVB day pass. Therefore the price is higher.

Current prices for the “Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket” Valid for 1 day: €21 Valid for 2 days: €31.50 Valid for 3 days: €40.50

The validity period is different from the GVB day ticket. The “Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket” is valid from the first check-in until 04.00 a.m. after the last valid day (depending on whether you have the 1, 2 or 3 day version). The day starts at midnight.

For example: If you use a 2-day ticket for the first time from midnight on Wednesday, then your ticket will be valid until 04:00 on Friday morning.

#4 Amsterdam Travel Ticket (ATT)

Day ticket + transfer by train or bus to schiphol airport.

The “Amsterdam Travel Ticket” – day ticket for public transport + airport transfer – online booking saves time and avoids stress

The Amsterdam Travel Ticket (ATT) is an extension of the GVB single day or multi-day-ticket described above. It can be considered an extension because with this ticket you also have the option of using the following unlimited times for your transfer to and from Schiphol airport :

• Unlimited 2nd class rail travel between train station “Schiphol Amsterdam” Airport and any train station in Amsterdam (Amstel, Bijlmer Arena, Amsterdam Centraal Station , Holendrecht, Lelylaan, Muiderpoort, RAI, Sciencepark, Sloterdijk, Zuid and Duivendrecht)
• The Amsterdam Airport Express (bus 397) operated by Connexxion and the Niteliner (bus N97).

This ticket also entitles you to unlimited travel on all GVB trams, (night) buses, metro and ferries in the whole of Amsterdam. However, its validity is regulated differently. The “Amsterdam Travel Ticket” is valid from the first check-in until 4 AM following the last valid day (depending on whether you have booked the 1, 2 or 3 day option). The day starts at midnight. For example: if you start using a 2-day ticket at midnight on Wednesday, then it will be valid until 4 AM on Friday.

Please note: This ticket is not valid on buses that are operated by other transport companies such as EBS and Arriva or on any bus other than the Amsterdam Express (bus 397) and the Niteliner (bus N97) operated by Connexxion.

#5 “I Amsterdam” card: Day ticket + discount card for sightseeing

Day ticket for public transport + free / reduced entry to attractions.

The I Amsterdam card is the official sightseeing pass for the city of Amsterdam. It is designed to help visitors navigate the maze of public transport fares and entrance tickets. The name is derived from the play on words “I am Amsterdam”. If you are also planning to visit the attractions and famous sights of the city, then the ‘I Amsterdam’ card may be of interest to you. It is a combination of day passes for public transport and discounted admission to tourist attractions.

The “I Amsterdam” card is a combination ticket and offers the following benefits:

How much does a single ticket cost for public transport in Amsterdam?

There is no classic single ticket for Amsterdam public transport. Single journeys can be paid for with the “OV / E- Purse card”. It works in a similar way to a prepaid mobile phone card. You can load an amount of money onto this card at a machine. You can then use this credit to pay for local transport. A reloadable, anonymous e-purse card (without passport photo) costs 7.50 euros (without credit).  It is easier to use local transport with a day or multi-day ticket.

Is the GVB Day Ticket Amsterdam valid on the Schiphol Airport Express Bus 397?

The regular GVB day pass does not include the airport transfer by express bus or train. However, you can buy a combined ticket consisting of a day ticket for public transport + airport transfer (express bus or train). This combined ticket is called the “ Amsterdam Travel Ticket ”.

Is an airport transfer included with the Amsterdam Travel Ticket?

With the “Amsterdam Travel Ticket” you can use the following unlimited transfer options to and from Schiphol Airport :

• Train travel in 2nd class on NS trains between Schiphol Amsterdam station and any station in Amsterdam (Amstel, Bijlmer Arena, Amsterdam Centraal Central Station, Holendrecht, Lelylaan, Muiderpoort, RAI, Science Park, Sloterdijk, Zuid and Duivendrech)
• Amsterdam Airport Express (Bus 397) and Niteliner (Bus N97)

I was a tourist in Amsterdam and lived in the DAM square area from 28th September 2019 to 1st October 2019. I request you to please issue a 12 hour ticket for 4.0 Euro. The 24 hour ticket which I bought for 8 Euro becomes a bit redundant since trams are not there in the late hours up to early morning. We usually party till about 2 am and then the walk back from Bull Dog Palace at Leidseplein Square to Dam Square becomes arduous and dangerous since we are not in our senses. I used line 2, 14, 24 and 26 extensively during our stay there.

Amsterdam-based travel app Stippl raises €575k to develop the AI planning journey

Stippl , an all-in-one travel app, announced the raise of over €575k. Backed by Marbruck Investments from Australia and Volve Capital from the Netherlands, the technology company will develop its AI travel planning feature and aims to grow the number of users to one million by the end of 2024.

Backed by this funding, the company is set on revolutionizing the way AI is used for travel planning. By harnessing the power of generative AI, combined with Stippl’s innovative travel planning tools and a growing travel community, the company is on a mission to create the most personalized and customizable experiences. Furthermore, the team is ambitiously aiming to expand its user base to one million by the end of 2024, alongside growing and extending its established business models through new subscription services and personalized photo books.

Travel planning made simple. With this vision in mind entrepreneurs Luuk Verhoeven, Omar Sheshtawy, and Robin van Rijn created travel platform Stippl in 2022. Amsterdam great travel guide

Augmented reality, gps, no roaming expenses and nice suggestions. The best travel guide.

Poor organization in free version

The free version is constantly directing you to paid excursions. When you search for information on the actual sites, you get decent information but it’s hard to get them organized.

I paid for the app because it was supposed to have audio included in it. Could never find anything in the app that gave me any audio. Other than that, yes there was so useful info but I think I could have found same on wiki.

Technology continues to make travel easier for millions of people around the globe. New apps offer travelers fresh ways to research a destination, connect with fellow globetrotters, communicate with locals, and track their flights. As a full-time digital nomad , I’ve learned the importance of having the right tools at your disposal when on the road.

Over the past few years, I’ve visited dozens of countries, flown hundreds of thousands of miles, and tested countless apps to find the ones that prove to be the most helpful. And while tools like Meetup, Google Maps, Google Translate, currency converters, and vacation rental , airline, and hotel–specific apps are in fact indispensable on most trips, I find that many of the best travel apps are still undiscovered by my fellow travelers.

Below, seven travel apps that make life on the go markedly easier (and more fun), from real-time flight trackers to photo-sharing gems—all of these apps are free, but some have paid pro versions worth considering. Don’t think these apps are only for full-time travelers—they prove useful for every type of traveler, whether you're in a brand-new destination or back for a return visit.

My favorite app on this list is Flighty, a must-have for any frequent flier . The free version is fantastic, but I recommend splurging for the premium version, which gives you even more useful information and comes at a reasonable cost of $48 per year. The functionality it provides more than justifies the price.

The free version allows you to input all future flights plus past journeys you've taken within the last year. It provides updated information if any schedule changes occur to upcoming flights and allows you to track all the miles you’ve flown in one place.

The other main benefit is that it allows you to share your flight information with friends and family members who are also on Flighty. They will receive real-time updates about your flight without you having to text them. My parents love to make sure I’m safe so they appreciate getting detailed information about my travels—even while I’m in the air.

Flightradar24 is a favorite app among fellow aviation geeks. It lets you track almost any aircraft you see in the air throughout the day or night. You can track your own flight, a friend's flight, or any plane you see in real-time. It shares plenty of cool data, like the altitude, speed, arrival and departure airports and times, and tail number.

There are tons of eSIM apps on the market, but Airalo is probably my favorite, with digital SIM cards available for dozens of countries. I find it to be the most reliable and offers the best data packages. It can be a little pricey, but it is the best option if you’re only taking short trips. Holafly is another eSIM app that offers unlimited data and works well, but I find the app to be much more glitchy than Airalo and would recommend using the desktop version.

This one is for the planner of the group. Wanderlog merges the best of a bunch of different apps into one. Imagine an app that lets you plan a trip with ease: collaborate with friends as if you’re on Google Docs, manage expense tracking like Splitwise, and have a central place for your reservations, checklists, and more. Tripit is a similar travel planner app, so you can download both and get a feel for which interface you like better.

Been allows you to track the countries you’ve visited and make a wish list of places you can’t wait to cross off your travel bucket list . It gives you information like the percentage of the globe you’ve been to and shows you a world map of your trips. It’s always fun to add in a new country whenever I reach my destination.

This app was introduced to me by fellow nomads I met at a cafe in Montevideo, Uruguay . It automatically tracks your route across the world, allowing you to quickly upload pictures throughout your travels that can be viewed by anyone who has access to your profile. It’s an excellent way to share important moments with loved ones without needing to send photos to each person individually. Users can also create easily accessible guides filled with up-to-date information to help you plan your own trip.

Steller is another app that a friend recently introduced me to, and I’ve quickly fallen in love with it. It uses a combination of AI and user experiences to help you plan trips around the globe. From recommendations of things to see, like the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires or the Royal Palace of Naples, to full guidebooks created by users, you can get inspired, book experiences, and discover hidden gems within this app.

Two Holland America Line crew members die in onboard 'steam release' in Bahamas

Two Holland America Line crew members died on the line’s Nieuw Amsterdam ship on Friday.

The deaths occurred following "an accidental steam release in an engineering space" around 9:20 a.m. while the ship was calling at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, according to a spokesperson for the line.

The crew members were third engineer Joseph Terrado and wiper Wawan Gusnawan. Terrado was from the Philippines and Gusnawan was from Indonesia.

"All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this event," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "We’ve been in contact with the families of both team members and are offering our support to them and to all of our crew at this difficult time."

Nieuw Amsterdam was sailing a week-long Eastern Caribbean cruise that departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 16, according to CruiseMapper . The ship returned to Fort Lauderdale around two hours late on Saturday, and left for its next cruise about three hours late.

The vessel will visit Ocho Rios in Jamaica on Tuesday.

"The Bahamas Maritime Authority and the Dutch Safety Board are currently investigating. Safety is always our top priority, and we are working to understand what, if anything, can be learned from this tragic accident," the spokesperson said, noting that earlier reports that the crew members died in a fire on board were incorrect.

Two investigators from the Dutch Safety Board traveled to the Caribbean as part of the inquiry, the independent administrative body said in an emailed statement. The BMA did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.
